  • I'd probably try somewhere like John Lewis for something nice. Boots usually have a selection as well and I've bought a nice one fairly recently in Paperchase. by drugstoregirl (Tue 10th Dec 2019 10:07pm)
  • They're not a thing anymore, you can only get singles (£2.50 if you're going more than a few stops) or an all day. by drugstoregirl (Mon 27th Jan 2020 7:41pm)
  • I think you did the right thing. I work in housing advice and you did exactly what I'd advise a tenant in that situation. The landlord should want the work done, but I've seen so many landlord/tenants implode because of work like that (and much more minor stuff) getting done without their knowledge. by drugstoregirl (Mon 3rd Feb 2020 10:46am)
  • I was at Scotstoun the other day and it was pretty grim as well, both in the sauna area and the general changing - loads of disrepair and general uncleanliness. by drugstoregirl (Fri 7th Feb 2020 3:33pm)

  • Haha if my flat wasn't overrun by them then I just might have taken that chance. Still holding out hope my Beanie Babies will be worth something one day...! by drugstoregirl (Tue 25th Feb 2020 11:57am)
  • Oh amazing, thank you, I'll take them there! by drugstoregirl (Tue 25th Feb 2020 6:47pm)
  • It's a national helpline but might be a good starting point for finding somewhere more local, but the Stop It Now website has good information and a confidential helpline for advice. Also, I'm really sorry you've had to deal with that. by drugstoregirl (Sun 1st Mar 2020 8:41am)

  • Can confirm, I work in housing legislation and am constantly one bad email away from a breakdown. by drugstoregirl (Mon 6th Jul 2020 11:20pm)
  • I would really encourage you to try and get some experience working in housing before you do the Masters. It's hard, it's often thankless, and chances are you will rarely see the rewards after spending months banging your head against a wall. This is not to try and put you off because the sector needs people who are passionate about housing as a social issue rather than a money maker and willing to fight like a dog with a bone on behalf of the clients that need it, but I can't stress enough that it's extremely draining work. by drugstoregirl (Mon 6th Jul 2020 11:24pm)
  • Good thinking! Feel free to pop me a message with any specific questions (I see you've also mentioned some issues with SAAS funding that I can probably help out with as well). by drugstoregirl (Tue 7th Jul 2020 12:21am)
  • Client-focused advice work primarily, but also some policy and second-tier advice work. by drugstoregirl (Tue 7th Jul 2020 12:51am)
  • My heated clothes horse is a god send in winter and nothing else replicates it for me, but at the moment I've just got a dehumidifier in the room and that's doing the job. by drugstoregirl (Tue 7th Jul 2020 2:14pm)
  • I went to look there when I was buying shortly after they'd be built and got treated so poorly in the Sales Office that I walked away mid conversation. Also, I've dealt with a massive amount of tenants who've been absolutely screwed by landlords renting out properties there which I completely recognise isn't symptomatic of the properties themselves, but always stands out to me. by drugstoregirl (Sat 11th Jul 2020 9:09pm)
  • A full fat coke, one of those sharing bags of ready salted Hula Hoops, and a Twirl. by drugstoregirl (Mon 13th Jul 2020 11:00pm)
  • I will happily go towards a split week home/office and I think my employers will support people who might want to do that, but we do client-facing work that they'll want to maintain some capacity so it won't be 100%. I'd be happy with 3 days at home, 2 in the office if they'd agree to that. Main thing will be my partner's situation as we just don't have enough space to both work from home and can't work in the same room due to the nature of our roles. He's currently in the living room on a makeshift desk and that room is attached to the kitchen, so I'm creeping around so he doesn't get into shit if his bosses hear me in the background during calls - he got a bollocking after I stubbed my toe and swore in the next room and they heard me. But if he goes back to an office and I can set up the spare room a bit better, I'd happily stay working from home some of the week. I don't miss the 6A and fighting with all the private school kids for a seat in the morning. by drugstoregirl (Wed 15th Jul 2020 12:07am)
  • I went for a drive through one, self-administered, and it was a surreal experience but fine. Had my results about 15 hours later. by drugstoregirl (Fri 24th Jul 2020 2:29pm)
  • It felt quite post-apocalyptic to me which I know sounds dramatic! You have to drive around a maze of cones and pathways, windows up the whole time while you pass through various checkpoints with people holding up cards for you with instructions. Everyone's in full PPE and when I went it was deserted other than me and a couple others getting tested. All done for safety and no complaints from me, but it was weird! by drugstoregirl (Mon 27th Jul 2020 11:15am)
  • Loved this story, thank you for sharing, and I'll be hoping that things turn around for you soon. I'll pop you a message if my work looks like it'll be doing any hiring any time soon. by drugstoregirl (Thu 6th Aug 2020 10:12pm)
  • Cheers for this! by drugstoregirl (Thu 13th Aug 2020 12:09pm)
  • Yeah, you're right, I wasn't sure if it was open again yet but just drove past and it's not. Managed to park okay outside the Lorne instead though. by drugstoregirl (Thu 13th Aug 2020 12:33pm)
  • I've been patiently waiting for bulk uplift to resume to get rid of a broken bed rather than just dumping it on the street like everyone else around me seems to be doing (and it can't be broken down enough to get in my car to take it to the dump). It's taking up most of my spare room which I'm using as an office at the moment and I'm getting pretty hacked off. First world problems maybe. by drugstoregirl (Mon 31st Aug 2020 1:03am)
  • H&P are my factors and they've been fine. I pay £79/month and most of that is buildings insurance. I've only been hit with an extra charge for - if I remember correctly - having the carpets cleaned and the walls repainted but it wasn't a drastic amount of money (for me, I recognise that not everyone is in the same boat, and I reckon it was about £150). They've always responded quickly to emails I've sent them and they've always given notice of works that owners have asked for before seeking quotes and then starting work, so I've always had an opportunity to object if I wanted it. Like I say, I know lots of people have issues with them but they've been as half decent as I'd hope for from a factor. by drugstoregirl (Mon 31st Aug 2020 11:21pm)
  • I'd second this. by drugstoregirl (Wed 9th Sep 2020 2:01am)
  • Sounds like you live near me, I'm fucking sick of hearing Buttons on repeat. by drugstoregirl (Tue 29th Sep 2020 1:30pm)
  • Yeah, I'm in the Craigend estate - took me a bit to realise it was the school because it's been so loud that I thought it was right outside my windows. I thought it was some overenthusiastic workers who really liked the same two songs as first. Cheers for emailing, though. by drugstoregirl (Tue 29th Sep 2020 10:02pm)
  • This is great, thank you - just ordered from one of these! by drugstoregirl (Fri 20th Nov 2020 9:34pm)
  • Yeah, that's a good distinction, someone not being accredited doesn't necessarily mean not qualified, but I'd 100% agree that I want someone to verify which body they are registered to. by drugstoregirl (Tue 22nd Dec 2020 8:49pm)
  • That email is disgusting. I work in housing rights so let me know if you have any issues with deposit, etc, I'll happily do some work for you on this. by drugstoregirl (Sun 17th Jan 2021 10:03pm)

  • We used to pay £80 pm in a non tenement but recently changed factors and it's now closer to an average of £50 pm. by drugstoregirl (Sat 29th Jan 2022 9:30pm)
  • For us it didn't have to be unanimous - I wasn't really involved in the decision, it all got quite heated so I decided to stay out of it, but our title deeds had a requirement for a certain percentage of agreement. For us there was a letter of proposal from the resident's committee, a consultation period, a vote, and then notice was given to the old factors, contract started with the new, and the new ones handled everything from there with the transition. by drugstoregirl (Sun 30th Jan 2022 10:28am)
  • Totally agree and had a really great experience in there with a pregnant friend when the waitress came and explained in detail everything on the menu that would be safe for her to eat. by drugstoregirl (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 8:28pm)

  • Yes! And creating time delays by putting in barriers, fencing, contact details for support, monitored hot spots, etc., reduces impulsivity which is one of the biggest predictors of completed suicides. Of course it won't eliminate all suicides, but it will buy time for a good number of people and allow opportunity for intervention. by drugstoregirl (Thu 10th Feb 2022 2:31pm)
  • Strathclyde has parking for staff that's normally on a ballot system each year - I don't know if they've changed the cost, but it used to be about £40 a month and they would usually try and give you a space in a car park near to whatever building you work in. by drugstoregirl (Sun 20th Feb 2022 1:10pm)
  • Guy flipped me off this morning and could see him ranting in my rear view mirror because I let someone merge in front of me because their lane was closing just up ahead. He then pulled out around me just to have to merge back in himself a few cars ahead. Just don't understand getting that wound up - I know I didn't do anything wrong and I should forget it (and I will) but it still made my morning a bit more miserable. by drugstoregirl (Tue 8th Mar 2022 10:40am)
  • I use Mud Urban a lot and they're great - really efficient and never had any delivery issues. by drugstoregirl (Wed 9th Mar 2022 1:07pm)
  • Agree with the mini roundabouts. Also being familiar with the lanes around the Cross and which one goes where, and another one that my instructor drummed into me which apparently isn't a common route but an unusual feature is there's stop signs coming out of Manor Road and Garscadden Road onto Great Western Road. Hope you find an up to date source though! by drugstoregirl (Sun 3rd Apr 2022 11:59pm)
  • Your mum shouldn't have inherited your dad's debts unless her name was also on them. Worth getting some advice from somewhere like Citizens Advice on that to get help on that. by drugstoregirl (Fri 15th Jul 2022 7:37pm)
  • That's expensive. Mine varies month to month but is rarely more than £60. by drugstoregirl (Sun 31st Jul 2022 9:10pm)
  • Related story, but I visited NYC a couple of years ago with a friend from the States and we met up with a couple of her friends who lived in the city. They both worked in city planning and were fascinated when they founds out I lived in Glasgow. They really wanted to know my thoughts on the Red Road flats in particular because they *had* studied them in college. by drugstoregirl (Fri 5th Aug 2022 11:21pm)

  • Check out Top Cat Blinds. It's been a couple of years since we had ours done (a set of french doors, a small ensuite window, and a regular double pane normal height window) and the price was far, far more reasonable than I had been expecting. by drugstoregirl (Tue 9th Aug 2022 11:33pm)

  • The college wouldn't know for sure who was and wasn't going to be striking though; they might have a good idea based on previous actions, but striking staff are under no obligation to share with their employer that they're striking (and usually wouldn't as this way causes more disruption which is the whole point). by drugstoregirl (Wed 15th Feb 2023 7:38pm)
  • Anniesland Cross, the double roundabout, and the big Duntocher/Clydebank roundabout all came up on my test. Also, my instructor made sure I was aware of a stop sign that's unusual on Manor Road coming onto Great Western Road; it didn't come up on my test, but he said it was quite a common fail point for people who aren't used to them and don't realise they're required to come to a full stop to check the intersection is clear. by drugstoregirl (Sat 18th Feb 2023 11:45pm)
  • I'm sorry for your loss. I don't want to make any assumptions about how your partner died but Petal (http://www.petalsupport.com/) and Scottish Families Affected Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (https://www.sfad.org.uk/) have both been helpful for me in the past with bereavements. by drugstoregirl (Thu 16th Mar 2023 12:01am)
  • Yeah, it did, but it's a bit of a mixture of truth and urban myth - the police reckon a couple of kids spray painted 'paedo' on a doctor's house in Wales, but there was no huge mob or burning down of her offices like was reported at the time. by drugstoregirl (Sun 19th Mar 2023 10:33pm)

  • Bon Vivant in Firhill are incredible and colour specialists. The only place I've gone consistently after never managing to find anywhere that I felt comfortable as someone who doesn't really like getting their hair done. I see Riona specifically. by drugstoregirl (Sun 9th Apr 2023 8:53pm)

  • Glasgow have bought out all of Kelvin Court and Thurso Street - https://www.unitestudents.com/glasgow by drugstoregirl (Tue 9th May 2023 11:17pm)
  • I think the OP means that the Unis have been taking out nomination agreements with private providers like Unite Students - the Unis then manage the allocations of those rooms to their students the same way they do with their own accommodations like Murano Street. It used to happen sporadically (e.g. Strathclyde have had agreements in the past with Nido St James) but after the issues last year many of them have taken out agreements in bulk and early to try and ringfence for their students because they don't have enough provision in their own halls. by drugstoregirl (Tue 9th May 2023 11:28pm)

  • Mine fluctuates month to month as they charge based on what happens each month, but it's rarely more than £70 and usually closer to £50 including building insurance. We use 91BC after leaving Hacking & Paterson and they've been pretty good, they've got a good online portal for reporting issues where the staff update on progress regularly and they've been good at dealing with issues with contractors. by drugstoregirl (Thu 15th Jun 2023 9:08pm)
  • I was there just a couple of weeks ago and sat outdoors on the deck! by drugstoregirl (Wed 21st Jun 2023 7:42am)
  • I'm sad to see it go. I was there a couple of weeks ago on a nice day so sat out on the decking and had good service, a massive bowl of curry for cheap, and a huge pot of tea. I think there were things that could have been worked on, but maybe there just wasn't the energy or money for it after so long. Hope the staff have other places to go. by drugstoregirl (Wed 21st Jun 2023 7:49am)
  • >Thank you! I didn’t know this was law in Scotland. Can she put it into a scheme now or would it be too late! I have lived in the flat for 2 years and have 2 weeks left of my notice. She could put it in now, but it wouldn't materially affect the outcome of a tribunal. They're really strict about landlord responsibilities and it being an unprotected deposit for so long would be looked at very critically. by drugstoregirl (Sat 22nd Jul 2023 12:43am)
  • There is, that's the legal timeframe for the landlord, but the tenancy deposit scheme itself will accept a deposit at any point - the tribunal will still find in favour of the tenant for a late registration, however. by drugstoregirl (Sat 22nd Jul 2023 5:07pm)

  • Just a heads up that all the bus stops between the Botanics and Hyndland Road in both directions are closed - the barriers haven't been moved to allow the buses to stop safely so drivers are skipping those stops at the moment. by drugstoregirl (Sat 5th Aug 2023 12:07pm)
  • Yeah, it was okay for me but I felt really bad for a couple of elderly and low mobility passengers who were caught off guard on my morning bus when the driver hadn't realised/been told it was an issue yet. By the time I was heading back my driver knew and was warning people but it seemed like this might be an ongoing thing through the competition. by drugstoregirl (Sat 5th Aug 2023 4:19pm)
  • Oh yeah, don't worry, I thought you were! 😁 by drugstoregirl (Sat 5th Aug 2023 9:41pm)

  • I wouldn't put anything in for the cost - mild is the landlord's responsibility and that includes the cost of fixing any cosmetic issues resulting from it. They would have to prove that it was somehow your fault but if the condensation is due to inadequate ventilation then they'll struggle to prove that. by drugstoregirl (Thu 31st Aug 2023 8:50pm)
  • Did they think you were just pausing for a wee break, ffs?! I was fully stopped at a red the other day at the roadworks at the Victoria Park Drive double roundabout and two 4x4s just pulled out around me and went on their merry way, the worst part being that I could see ahead that the pedestrian crossing lights had already gone to green. I've tutted at people plenty before but I was shocked by the audacity. by drugstoregirl (Sat 9th Sep 2023 8:10pm)
