  • I've never had to make a survey like this for my line of studying (thankfully) but I always do my best to help out wherever possible. Good luck with your studies and hopefully you get all the participants you require! by laomedeiia (Fri 28th Feb 2020 7:15pm)
  • I can also recommend abandoned buildings if you enjoy urban exploring. Feel free to message me by laomedeiia (Sat 29th Feb 2020 3:48pm)
  • Pucks Glen in dunoon, devil's pulpit near Loch lomond, Kelburn Castle forest in Largs, anywhere in glencoe (its gorgeous). If you have the time and energy definitely try get a munro done. I'd recommend mayar as it's absolutely gorgeous but even if you don't want to climb, corrie fee is breathtaking and is worth the drive alone. I love adventuring in Scotland and I know you'll have the best time! The faery pools in skye are lovely too but a bit of a trek to get there (5+ hour drive) by laomedeiia (Sat 29th Feb 2020 3:47pm)
  • Loch ness is absolutely lovely. Hopefully you get lucky with the weather but bring a waterproof jacket and waterproof shoes just incase 😂 by laomedeiia (Sat 29th Feb 2020 4:06pm)
  • I was sure paesano had closed. My work, la lanterna, are now doing deliveries too. We have the same suppliers as paesano and he told us yesterday he went for delivery and it was fully shut despite it being 1pm by laomedeiia (Thu 19th Mar 2020 11:10am)
  • I've never heard of it but downloading now! I usually hill walk so I've got viewranger and I've downloaded a few cycle routes from gpx files there by laomedeiia (Sun 10th May 2020 3:55pm)
  • When this all happened I worried for my Asian friends over here. So far there has been no issues but I have heard people say comments regarding the situation but I also see equal amounts, if not more, calling them out. A lot of our unis have partnerships with Asian unis so we have a lot of students crossing over. I think you'll love it over here and if you need someone to show you around, send me a message! by laomedeiia (Fri 29th May 2020 10:09am)
  • If we change the names we're essentially trying to erase the history behind them. We need to be taught about our roots in slavery to understand we arent innocent in everything. If we dont acknowledge our mistakes, how can we grow and ensure we dont learn from them. Were taught about Hitler in school to avoid that happening again, so why should our roots in slavery be any different? I'm ashamed to say it took til my early 20s to learn about the names of our streets but I'm glad I did. by laomedeiia (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 10:23am)
  • I bought a swan retro coffee machine on amazon for around £70-80 and im super pleased with it! Worked as a bartender in a restaurant so needed a good steaming wand as I cant drink coffee with water now. I make coffees 2-3 times a day and I've had it since August now. I'm super happy with it and its such a pretty looking machine too by laomedeiia (Fri 12th Jun 2020 9:48am)
  • I think implementing vending machines that give you discounts on your shopping is a fab idea. I know we tried a half hearted attempt at it here but it should be redone and properly advertised by laomedeiia (Mon 22nd Jun 2020 8:50pm)
  • Theres one next to roots and fruits on great Western road. I got a lovely denim jacket for 20 quid there. Turned out to be designer and worth almost 400 quid! by laomedeiia (Wed 11th Nov 2020 3:14pm)
  • Buchanan Castle up near Loch lomond or St Peters seminary by laomedeiia (Wed 11th Nov 2020 11:48pm)
  • The ruins of wester sallochy also in loch lomond are pretty cool but not as much to them. Theres also a little derelict water mill next to a waterfall in rouken glen park by laomedeiia (Thu 12th Nov 2020 12:32am)
  • Ive never had a problem locking my bike up anywhere city centre and I have a mint green Dutch bike so it stands out! My best advice would be to get a super strong one (mine is a £25 one out of b and q, proper big chains and a bolt cutter wouldnt break it) and make sure the lock goes through the front wheel and the bike frame. The front wheel is easy to remove and people don't tend to bother taking the back as it's a hassle and messy. I lock mine up in view of the window in my work so I can keep an eye in it too. There's also a website called Bike Register where you can put in your details, picture of your bike, and bike serial number etc to help police if it does get stolen by laomedeiia (Sat 14th Nov 2020 10:04pm)
  • I used Czm8 in two different flats due to carpet beetles when moving in! Super affordable and quick service. Guy was absolutely lovely and id definitely use them again for other pest control. by laomedeiia (Sat 14th Nov 2020 10:11pm)
  • I have a few new ones of the clyde in summer! by laomedeiia (Thu 19th Nov 2020 4:55pm)

  • When you go through the government website to book one, it'll give you a choice of home or testing centre and it'll tell you the closest one to you! It's always in the carpark and there will be one or two wee tents where you take the test by laomedeiia (Fri 5th Feb 2021 9:57pm)
  • On Facebook, forgot to say by laomedeiia (Mon 12th Apr 2021 12:22pm)
  • Theres usually posts asking for volunteers on the Dennistoun info page. The community done a lot of that during summer last year! by laomedeiia (Mon 12th Apr 2021 12:22pm)
  • Also dennistoun freebies if you live in the area. Absolute goldmine by laomedeiia (Mon 12th Apr 2021 2:38pm)
  • Fineholm happily moved us into a bug infested flat then tried to charge us for the exterminator. They refused repairs, tried to take our deposit off for cleaning when the upstairs flat flooded after we'd handed the keys back in. Horrible, horrible company. Defo stay away by laomedeiia (Thu 15th Apr 2021 10:41pm)
  • I had a bad phobia of dentists due to bad experiences when i was younger and didn't go for 4 years. The only dentists that have helped me get over my fear was West End Smiles in partick! I've had work done by the two dentists (Irfan and Mohammed) and they're so kind and patient despite me shaking so hard the chair moved my first few visits haha by laomedeiia (Wed 2nd Jun 2021 7:29pm)
  • Caledonian books is one of my favs. I went in and asked the woman working for a recommendation and ended up leaving with a new favourite book! by laomedeiia (Thu 5th Aug 2021 12:49pm)
  • Nice n sleazies, Maggie mays, solid rock, rufus t firefly, howlin wolf (more blues rock but some good live music for free), slouch, box (also good for blue rocks live music) by laomedeiia (Wed 11th Aug 2021 12:06pm)
  • Duke street is really good for charity shops! The Shelter beside Coias always has a fantastic range and dead cheap by laomedeiia (Mon 16th Aug 2021 8:37am)
  • Duke's bar in the west end had live Jazz and blues before lockdown. Not sure if they've started it back yet. Blue dog and Slouch also had blues/jazz/funk/rock nights. Only been to Wolf since pubs re-opened by laomedeiia (Wed 1st Sep 2021 1:13pm)
  • I've had filling done by NHS and privately on one of my front teeth. The NHS one had to replaced 3 times as it kept coming off. The privately done one has lasted longer and its much stronger. I've recently went private for all my dental care (some dentists even have dental plans. Mine gets me 15% off treatment) and it was the best decision I've ever made. Plus if you have a white filling and some more tooth breaks off, they can just add extra white filling to fix it. Whereas if it's silver, then they need to remove and redo the whole thing or remove the tooth and use a cap by laomedeiia (Thu 18th Nov 2021 7:49am)
  • I'm not sure on small companies, but i've used the Boots photo printers and they are good quality! by laomedeiia (Thu 18th Nov 2021 1:16pm)
  • This would be fantastic! I'm mid 20s and I've had the same issues with finding like minded people my age. A lot of people say they want to get out more but never make the effort to actually do so and then there's always the struggle to find something within their skill/fitness level by laomedeiia (Wed 1st Dec 2021 8:23pm)
  • DELETED La Lanterna, La Fiorentina, or Osteria would be my recommendations! by laomedeiia (Mon 6th Dec 2021 10:54am)
  • The owner sacked 5 staff during lockdown, despite them being on furlough https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/18557808.amp/ by laomedeiia (Mon 20th Dec 2021 12:19pm)
  • Depending on the type of pipes you have, bleach can be harmful so watch out. You can buy these sticks of enzymatic sink cleaners and you stick one down your sink once a month. Used to buy them for the bar I worked at and they were fab by laomedeiia (Thu 23rd Dec 2021 12:52pm)
  • Our bathroom ones were the same and it corroded them and we needed to replace them 😂😂 the sticks have worked a treat though. I got them from tesco by laomedeiia (Thu 23rd Dec 2021 12:58pm)
  • Ours weren't PVC as it was a bathroom sink and not a firm material but I do agree with better safe than sorry! by laomedeiia (Thu 23rd Dec 2021 2:37pm)
  • The Howlin Wolf has live music from 11pm til 2/3am on Wed to Sun, also box does live music starting late and slouch used to but not sure if they still do. Those are my go-to's. Wolf also do fab pizza til 2 or 3 by laomedeiia (Mon 10th Jan 2022 12:24am)
  • La lanterna were absolutely wonderful to work for. Treated their staff well, amazing tips, free food on breaks and at end of shift, worked well around uni and the customers tended to be quite nice. Worst is kura, outsourced call centre. Wrecked havoc on my mental health. Used to come in for daily 30 min meetings where managers would berate you for not doing good enough. Shit training, staff couldn't care less, very toxic atmosphere. Breaking point was when my manager spent half my lunch break berating me on my call times (had to be under 6 mins but mine was 12) to the point I had to hide in the toilet to cry. by laomedeiia (Tue 1st Feb 2022 3:29pm)
  • Going in-house for call centres is defo the way forward. Better benefits and more pay. Wish I realised before I went to an outsourced company! by laomedeiia (Tue 1st Feb 2022 4:50pm)
  • The empire biscuits from the canteen were the only thing that got me through shifts by laomedeiia (Tue 1st Feb 2022 6:15pm)
  • I was with them for years because of this! They also taught me some Italian too which was grand. by laomedeiia (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 11:02am)
  • I'm in need of a good yarn shop. So far the o ly two good ones are the bargain wool shop in gallowgate and one in Partick but I don't feel their selections are very good. Buying online is tricky as you don't know how the wool will feel if you've never used it before. I'm looking to getting into sewing too as I've recently came into possession of a machine. Glasgows definitely lacking on the craft side of things. by laomedeiia (Sat 12th Feb 2022 8:18am)
  • Unfortunately I can't drive and I'm in the east end of Glasgow! I tend to use Wool Warehouse but nothing beats a local shop, preferably with hand dyed wool by laomedeiia (Sat 12th Feb 2022 5:19pm)
  • You definitely can! There's some amazing yarn shops in skye and Shetland that sell online that do hand spun and hand dyed yarn. Big fan of thise by laomedeiia (Sat 12th Feb 2022 5:30pm)
  • Hug and pint on great Western Road was my first experience with vegan food and its amazing!! So cheap as well and close to the subway station by laomedeiia (Tue 15th Feb 2022 1:20pm)
  • It'd be a good idea to check your meter serial number matches the one your account is registered to. A good meter test is to turn everything off using the main fuse box, take a reading from the meters and then take another in 30 mins. The readings should not have changed due to everything being off but if they've increased then there's an issue whether it be faulty wiring or someone tapping the box (surprisingly quite common in scotland). What unit prices are you paying per kwh? Gas should be 4-6p per kwh and elec should be 12-16 p per kwh for good rates. If it's higher than that, then you should look for a contract with lower rates. Also a good idea to check your first readings are not estimates and if they are you can use two meter readings youve handed in to work back to what they wouldve been when you moved in. by laomedeiia (Fri 18th Feb 2022 3:28pm)
  • The beta band or django django (funnily enough they also contain have a pair of brothers between the bands) by laomedeiia (Thu 24th Feb 2022 10:45pm)
  • I used to work with Scottish Power in their call centre and I'd definitely advise finding a different company ASAP 😂 they over estimate your usage and charge you based on that. Since you have a smart meter, you can check your avg annual usage and calculate costs based on new unit rates and standing charges and see how much it should actually be. They will also block you moving to another company if you have debt on your account, even if it its negligible. by laomedeiia (Fri 11th Mar 2022 1:26pm)
  • Bloc has always been my favourite. Fiver steak on a wed and the deals range from £2 to £5. Their pizzas are banging too by laomedeiia (Fri 25th Mar 2022 4:04pm)
  • My cat used to tear up carpets too, I solved that within a couple months by getting some scratching pads that you nail onto the wall and getting flat scratch matts to cover the spots she went for. Is it possible your cat has separation anxiety? I definitely recommend feliway like someone else said. They also have sprays to help redirect scratching which was a huge help for me. I used their calming plug in to introduce 2 cats and used the scratch attractant to get my gal using the pads instead of the carpet. by laomedeiia (Wed 30th Mar 2022 2:21pm)
  • Strathclyde uni gym has a swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Fiver entry but you need to make sure pool isn't booked out for water sports. They usually have info online by laomedeiia (Fri 1st Apr 2022 12:41pm)

  • FDM is a good place to get training in different tech roles that WFH and train you up. Good starting salary too. I'm currently in interviews with them and know some people who have used it to get into the area by laomedeiia (Fri 5th Aug 2022 11:22am)
  • Train to Largs, ferry to Millport (keep eyes peeled for the dolphins that occasionally make themselves known), walk or cycle round the island. The deep sea chippie is by far the best chippie i've ever had but the seagulls are mad dicks there. The lion rock has the best selection of bramble bushes too. by laomedeiia (Tue 9th Aug 2022 11:01am)
  • There's one on great western road inbetween roots n fruits and valhallas goat that's fab. I got a cute designer denim jacket worth over £300 for only £20 there. There's a few in merchant city around polo with some decent clothes. Byres road and duke street also for lots of shops in a short walking distance from one another by laomedeiia (Tue 16th Aug 2022 11:26am)
  • Only one or two drops max is needed to break the surface tension of the vinegar. Be sure not to put too much or they won't go for it! This is my go to trick too. Also enzymatic cleaning sticks for your drains and don't forget to wash your bins by laomedeiia (Fri 9th Sep 2022 7:15am)
  • Train to Crianlarich or Tyndrum from Glasgow queen Street and you have loads of munros in between! Fab wee cycle path between the two train stations too so no need to go on the roads by laomedeiia (Wed 14th Sep 2022 9:12am)
  • Strathclyde uni gym has a sauna and steam room and is a fiver for a day pass. Don't need to be a student to go by laomedeiia (Tue 20th Sep 2022 12:16pm)
  • There's also a wool shop in Partick near the train station that have a stand of embroidery floss and a wall of supplies. I tend to go there for wool and other bits n bobs and the woman who owns it is lovely by laomedeiia (Sat 24th Sep 2022 12:30pm)

  • I got this bus to eurocentral and its amazing for its timeliness and the seats are comfy af and chargers at the sides. Much preferred it to the train by laomedeiia (Sun 25th Sep 2022 2:03pm)
  • When i went to strathclyde, they let in students from other unis if you had a student card and spoke to the guard at the gate inside. They prioritise strathy students at exam time though. Unsure if it's changed as i was last at uni in 2019 but it's a fab facility if you can get in. I always liked the quiet floor on floor 1 by laomedeiia (Fri 30th Sep 2022 9:06am)
  • There's a whole load of flats being built in the dennistoun meat market rn that are set to be done in spring 2023 (possibly pushed back). But they've been built up proper quickly and look no bad. Right across from lidl and across from the train station or 15 min walk to town. Could be worth keeping an eye out on them by laomedeiia (Fri 30th Sep 2022 12:46pm)
  • Defo worth the money. Managed to move my test forward by a couple months using that by laomedeiia (Sun 2nd Oct 2022 2:56pm)
  • Having grown up in Coatbridge, it's not as bad as it used to be. There's good bits and bad bits. I'd avoid anything near Monkland, kirkshaws, kirkwood and shawhead. But a lot of young families have moved out there because its cheap and has good amenities. 3 train stations for the town (sunny side, blairhill and kirkwood) and lots of bus links too. The country park is fab and I spent most of my childhood kicking around there by laomedeiia (Tue 11th Oct 2022 6:47am)

  • I'm interested! by laomedeiia (Fri 11th Nov 2022 12:37pm)
  • Broken clock bakery just off great western road is a must. I'm not even a fan of cinnamon but im obsessed with their cinnamon rolls. Big bear bakery in southside and cottonrake bakery on great western road also deserve a wee mention by laomedeiia (Mon 14th Nov 2022 10:16am)

  • Clatty pats! Was the only pub open late on great western road and my mum tells many a tale from there by laomedeiia (Fri 6th Jan 2023 6:32am)
  • I use Ester May Owen in dennistoun (Hillfoot street), super cheap and quick and not had a bad alteration so far! by laomedeiia (Wed 5th Apr 2023 7:00am)
  • If you want a proper lengthy drive with some fantastic dips and turns but also gives you a good view of the road ahead (and mountains), the drive up to glenshee is one of my favourites. You can stop at the ski centre for a bit of lunch and it's such a beautiful area if you continue down the road. Always a lot quieter up there past the snow season compared to the loch lomond/glencoe routes by laomedeiia (Thu 6th Apr 2023 3:59pm)
  • The nurses there told me wednesday at 9am but i found one on a monday at 4pm when they released some. It can change really quickly. I found the easiest thing was to explain to my gyno the issues i was having and she got the receptionist to text me whenever they released apps. I waited 5 months past the exp date of my coil before i managed to get in. by laomedeiia (Thu 13th Apr 2023 2:09pm)

  • If you like hiking or climbing you should join the clyde mountaineering club! I recently started getting more active in the community and it's been great. We do other things outwith munros and bouldering but if you enjoy them (not necessary to drive as we have many a driver) you should check out the website or insta. It's aimed at people in their 20s and 30s by laomedeiia (Tue 30th May 2023 9:24pm)

  • I have never seen rain like that in my life. Duke street had full on waves of water and our roof got panned in from the hail. That was not something you see every year by laomedeiia (Wed 21st Jun 2023 2:30pm)

  • Also I pay £15 for a cat with a pre existing condition, just for an indicator of cost by laomedeiia (Fri 11th Aug 2023 8:34am)
  • There is definitely insurance for pre existing conditions. I'm currently with petsure, can't say how good they are as I haven't put a claim in yet. Do not go for manypets unless you're happy to wait 6+ months to get your money back by laomedeiia (Fri 11th Aug 2023 8:33am)
  • You could go to a roller disco, trampoline Park, boom battle bar for fun mini games (expensive though), go karting. There's a new inflatable bouncy place also opening up soon! by laomedeiia (Sun 27th Aug 2023 11:09am)
  • I commuted to Stirling from the east end (also live near a slip road) and honestly the journey was shit. Some days I'd be sitting in traffic for an hour 20 in the morning for a journey that should be 25 minutes. It eats up a lot of your day and you need to get up earlier to accommodate for the extra travel and its tiring. I loved Stirling to work in but not when you're living in Glasgow. I'd never go back to commuting that much on a daily basis again by laomedeiia (Tue 29th Aug 2023 11:44am)
  • I wouldnt agree with the dog walking comment. We have the canals that run along kelvinside to clydebank/spiers wharf (or even falkirk if you wanna go that far). Lot's of big parks too: Ruchill, Victoria, Linn, Rouken Glen, Ally parade, Queens, Bellahousten and more. Plus following the clyde past glasgow green is a gorgeous wee walk by laomedeiia (Mon 18th Sep 2023 1:37pm)
