  • I lived in Townhead Terrace when I was a student. Granted this was around 2010 (RIP me student years). Back then it was mostly just a slight student vibe, and from my bedroom you could hear noise from one of the bars at night. Never really an issue for me as I sleep with earphones in. I also had flatmates who would escort me to and fro the station at night if need be, but if they weren't available I would head down walk fast home in about 5 mins. Not always ideal but I never felt particularly more unsafe there than I do staying on the southside of Glasgow in these days. Like I say, it was a fair while ago, but I have fond memories. by pumpkin_basher (Mon 17th Jan 2022 10:08am)
  • So it's the landlord responsibility then, or is it an agreement between landlord and tenant? I'm a tenant but I've not heard anything from my landlord. by pumpkin_basher (Wed 19th Jan 2022 8:36am)
  • Right, I'll get in touch with them now and see if they have any plans to get it sorted soon. Thanks for the info! by pumpkin_basher (Wed 19th Jan 2022 8:44am)
  • Its unlikely you'll see them from your bedroom window if you're living in the city center (not impossible, but unlikely). I recently got into star watching and I usually will drive somewhere with little light pollution on a clear night. Not even very far out of the city, only a 15 min or so drive I find myself with a very clear sky and can sit for hours watching the stars. However, if you can drive or have access, there is a dark sky park (Galloway Forrest) where you can camp and I can personally say I have never seen the sky look anything like this with the naked eye like I did there. by pumpkin_basher (Wed 26th Jan 2022 9:29am)
  • Did you get the vegan crunch from Mono and did they let you do take away or was it a dine in affair? I dont think I want people to see me eat a pizza crunch. It'll be like something that David Attenborough would need to narrate. by pumpkin_basher (Mon 31st Jan 2022 10:02am)

  • I'm not sure if interview nerves is a thing for you. But something that always keeps me calm.is to remind myself that the interview is as much for me to find out if I want to work there as it is for them to have me on board. Also take some questions for you to ask them. Such as, how did the role come about, was it through expansion or did somebody leave their post? And if there are kpis how are these measured, will it be team kpis or individual efforts to meet the bigger picture etc. by pumpkin_basher (Sun 20th Feb 2022 9:27am)
  • Not sure if you're working at the moment. If so, some workplaces have some form of private health care in their package which usually includes an 'employee assistance programme' and this can involve telephone counselling sessions. I also second using the Life Link referral. To set your expectations, my referral took the best part of 6 months. If it turns out to be similar turnaround times and if you're struggling at the moment you can try to use one of the charities free service or the work based service mentioned above if applicable in the meantime. If you (or anybody else here) should find themself reaching a mindset in need of more immediate help please text 'shout' to 85258. It's a free service with trained counselors designed to get you to a calmer place and provide advice for a long term plan. [source](https://giveusashout.org/get-help/how-shout-works/) Sending love and light and hoping you get your road to resolution soon. by pumpkin_basher (Fri 25th Feb 2022 11:45pm)

  • I've been doing Italian at Language Within in the city centre. It's a group setting rather than one on one, but I find it's been great and could be worthwhile if you're struggling for 1:1. They only speak to you in the language (immersion learning technique, I think) and my Italian has come on leaps and bounds since I started. • Hi everyone, my friend is currently doing their dissertation on the subject of adapting your wanks to the ever depressing social climate of the last few years. If you can spare a few minutes of your time that would be great, thanks! by pumpkin_basher (Wed 30th Mar 2022 10:34pm)
  • Falafel 2 go. It's a wee window box just off of Sauchihall Street across from the corner that savers is on. £3.50 for the best Falafel wrap in the land. by pumpkin_basher (Fri 8th Apr 2022 6:06pm)
  • Must have been shortly after it went onto Google I found it, so thank you! It's the same people who make the falafel wraps from the police box outside the botanical gardens too. I tell everybody about it and everywhere I go and try a falafel wrap, yet to find anything that can compete. by pumpkin_basher (Sat 9th Apr 2022 9:41pm)
  • Nice! I did try some in Brussels and I remember it being good, but I don't think it was a contender so must've been a different joint. I did get some in Toronto though, and those falafel places in Toronto have been the only place to compare. there are so many of there all of the same standard too. I often wonder if the people of Toronto realise how good they have it (in terms of falafel). by pumpkin_basher (Mon 11th Apr 2022 9:11am)

  • I just recently got a kit from medichecks. There are a few of these types of companies, but I can vouch for the very detailed result in what I received back (feedback, good and bad, levels of where my results sat and what they meant). Thankfully, although not surprisingly, my only deficiency was vitamin D. They also have a few different levels of test and show you what specific things they check for in each. The one I had required a finger prick blood sample but you can also arrange to go to a clinic to have the blood drawn by a nurse if you don't hate that kind of thing. by pumpkin_basher (Sun 1st May 2022 7:16pm)
  • Is it not just the same analysis they do? What makes it more susceptible to inaccuracies? by pumpkin_basher (Tue 3rd May 2022 9:28am)
  • Ah! Thanks for this. The wee instruction booklet did warn against this in fairness. by pumpkin_basher (Tue 3rd May 2022 3:29pm)
  • One of my favourite date ideas is to have a budget of something like 10 each (even a couple of pounds of a fiver would do) you then set a time limit to go into the charity shops and the aim is to buy a gift that could be funny/cute/reminds you of them and meet up at a coffee shop to exchange the funny gifts after the time limit. Obviously it's all adaptable depending on your budgets etc. But you get to spend some time together, money goes to a charity, and you get some random gift at the end of it 😊 by pumpkin_basher (Sun 22nd May 2022 10:00pm)
  • I second Lifelink. I used them a couple of years ago too and still practice some of the methods they taught me. It took quite a few months (maybe even around 6) to get an appointment. At the time it was self-referral so might be worthwhile to check out their website and self-refer in advance of going to your GP appointment so you can let them know. P.S even recognising you want to seek external help for this is a huge step in itself. Well done, OP. You got this :) by pumpkin_basher (Tue 24th May 2022 3:43pm)
  • I've got a spare office chair you'd be welcome to. It's nothing fancy but does the trick (including, but not limited to, bum on seat kind of trick). by pumpkin_basher (Tue 7th Jun 2022 10:08am)
  • Yeah, I think so too. In which case we have 3 months so find something else which isn't ideal in this market either. by pumpkin_basher (Tue 7th Jun 2022 10:21am)

  • I think our tenancy agreement says 3 for them and 1 for us. I'll look it out again as 6 would be better. Fingers crossed! by pumpkin_basher (Tue 7th Jun 2022 10:32am)
  • If I was in the position to buy at the moment I wouldn't be so worried about potentially being kicked out or my rent increasing. But thanks for the suggestion all the same! by pumpkin_basher (Tue 7th Jun 2022 10:30am)
  • I see your point. But this thread isn't one of those threads. This thread is a 'fuck I might be forced out either by selling the flat or increasing the rent outwith my affordability' thread. by pumpkin_basher (Tue 7th Jun 2022 10:37am)
  • This would be the most ideal situation. Thanks for the glimmer of hope! by pumpkin_basher (Tue 7th Jun 2022 10:35am)

  • You're absolutely right. I just checked the tenancy and it's 6 months if they intend to sell the property, but 3 months if they want to move back in to live here themselves. by pumpkin_basher (Tue 7th Jun 2022 2:06pm)
  • Thank you! by pumpkin_basher (Tue 7th Jun 2022 2:23pm)

  • I learned how to swim when I turned 30. I started doing lessons at the Dollan Aqua Centre in East kilbride. They have adult only classes and a block of 8 weeks was 50ish pounds iirc. Even if you don't live there I'd say its worth the journey through each week. The girls teaching me were fantastic and the class was small enough to feel supported. I went from not being able to let go of the side wall of the pool to full swimming in about 6 lessons. The only reason I stopped was because of covid. by pumpkin_basher (Sun 12th Jun 2022 10:22am)

  • I'm the same kind of way as you. I have a hair cut once or twice a year and use Kano. They have a beauty place in the basement and while I've never been my flatmate has and recommends it. It's not far from the one you went to and you can book online so you can be sure what you're getting. Good luck, and don't reward the bullies! by pumpkin_basher (Mon 1st Aug 2022 4:33pm)

  • I don't know a specific 1 on 1 tutor, but I've been going tonlingo flamingo and it's been fantastic. They have classes for all levels. The one I'm in just now only has three students which I like and is online based but they do have some in the deanstone drive space. by pumpkin_basher (Sat 13th Aug 2022 3:56pm)
  • Hey OP, did you get a tutor, and if so, would you have any recommendations? by pumpkin_basher (Tue 13th Sep 2022 10:43am)
  • I asked my letting agent for their recommendation and they didn't have one. I checked on here and somebody had recommended ADB Cleaning. I got them to do an end of tenancy clean (I know some folk say do it yourself but between moving house, cleaning the new place and all the stresses I like this option of taking one thing off my plate). Anyway, ADB were fantastic, the place was fucking spotless and I had a detailed itinerary of everything carried out to pass over to the letting agents. Never had any trouble getting my full deposit back afterwards. [ADB Cleaning website here](https://adbcleaning.co.uk/contact.html) by pumpkin_basher (Sun 23rd Oct 2022 12:41am)
  • Agreed. Used to go there for a scran after 69pence drinks in Fury's. (I don't miss that place, just the college times vibes). by pumpkin_basher (Thu 5th Jan 2023 1:45pm)
  • I'm sorry mate, unfortunately it turned out for us our landlord wanted to sell (to free up cash to purchase a hotel I believe) they did very kindly offer us the house at home report value. However it was when the market was insane so it was still just too pricey for us. If you're in the position to do this and it happens you could ask the same. by pumpkin_basher (Sat 21st Jan 2023 11:28am)
  • We found out pretty much about 2-4 weeks after the valuation, but when we asked the agency for reassurance they only told us it was for a valuation and not to worry as they would help us find somewhere else if he sold (eye roll). I'm so sorry it's not a good news story (it turned out good in the end) from my end but I hope it will be for you. by pumpkin_basher (Sat 21st Jan 2023 8:06pm)
  • This may be a too late response but a while back I rented a small house from Jean at Fine Let's. She's great, compassionate toward me, as the tenant, but also very fair for the landlord points of view. Would 10/10 recommend her everytime. by pumpkin_basher (Sat 21st Jan 2023 10:50pm)
  • I don't know why you're getting downvoted for this, it's not a terrible idea! But her mum and aunties will be in attendance so perhaps not the right crowd for it. by pumpkin_basher (Mon 23rd Jan 2023 12:39am)

  • Chubby vegan recommendations incoming: Suissi vegan for some 10/10 Pan Asian scran Ranjits kitchen for the best panjabi food and a platter of veg pakora that you think will never end and wish it hadn't when it does. For pizza Civerinos in Finnieston and Tonis in Giffnock both do some good vegan cheese options that don't stink or stick to your teeth. For general junk, Bloc, I can recommend the burgers the hot dogs and the vegan mac (also do some vvvv cheap deals on various days) Sugo can make a vegan version of their pesto pasta and that alongside the panzanella salad is a dream. Plant blonde in West end and Honeytrap on the southside for the best vegan puddings. The dorky french in town also does vegan croissants to die for but I'm not sure of their opening times, weekends only maybe. Lotus vegan cuisine if you're looking for the best Chinese scran, and I do mean the best. Falafel 2 go if you want something quick and cheap out of a wee window that will honestly be one of the best things you've ever eaten. Yiamas do some great vegan options if you're looking for Greek food and there is also the Athenian on delivery apps for tasty Greek wraps. The dough cartel is based in govan and they do some great wee desserts and tasty sandwiches. Mono and stereo are decent although last time I went to stereo I wasn't a fan of their menu but that's probably just personal taste and they do change it up every now and then. Brooklyn cafe do a few vegan options but my personal highlight is their vegan breakfast tower *chefs kiss* by pumpkin_basher (Mon 16th Oct 2023 3:38pm)
