  • Tonnes of threads about this gaff on reddit for you to find, mate. If I were you dont do it. Trust me I lived there when it was "nice". by GBradz (Thu 21st Mar 2019 7:20pm)

  • Defo not planning as no planning consent is required. Its building control that I need to deal with. Will speak to them tomorrow. by GBradz (Sun 7th Jul 2019 8:30pm)
  • Kind of, I think you get that if you are able to prove that the work was done by a previous owner. For this scenario you need retrospective warrants. by GBradz (Thu 1st Aug 2019 4:53pm)
  • No response which is not ideal, essentially you need find an architect that will act as an agent for you. From there you need to get them to draw retrospective plans and then get the work done. My advice get it sorted or look to get title indemnity insurance (probably cheaper). by GBradz (Thu 1st Aug 2019 4:51pm)

  • >7 with stab wounds, 2 police. 3 dead Same as most places just now, lots of tension and add in lockdown. by GBradz (Fri 26th Jun 2020 2:13pm)
  • My thoughts were that this seemed like a disturbance for which the police were called. It appears to me to not be random or terror related as has been speculated. Hope we are all wrong but have heard from 2 people in the centre who seem be of the opinion its pretty bad. by GBradz (Fri 26th Jun 2020 2:15pm)
  • There has been multiple incidents across the city relating to protests, that have resulted in violence, particularly around this area. There was an attack on police officers on the outskirts last week with a meat cleaver. There are well documented suspicions of police just now with people using that as a justification to attack the police and Glasgow is not immune. There has also been a significant impact to people's mental health during lockdown. by GBradz (Fri 26th Jun 2020 2:27pm)
  • BBC News is reporting that three people have died after being stabbed in the stairwell of a hotel on West George Street. ‘It’s understood’ this is the case according to BBC correspondents. by GBradz (Fri 26th Jun 2020 2:32pm)
  • I am saying that tensions between the police and society based on the current level of violence in that area of the city is likely to have been a factor if police have been attacked. I dont think that street or the Ibis is #1 on the list of targets for terrorism. I think that the police will have been called to a disturbance at the hotel and its went badly. by GBradz (Fri 26th Jun 2020 2:30pm)
  • I would say with about 95% clarity that this will not be terror related. by GBradz (Fri 26th Jun 2020 2:43pm)
  • Some are being used as accommodation for the homeless community since the start of lockdown. I have head but dont know that they are also being used for asylum seekers. by GBradz (Fri 26th Jun 2020 2:40pm)
  • I have also heard this but dont have any way of verifying it. Heard that there has been some pretty horrific things going on as well. by GBradz (Fri 26th Jun 2020 2:49pm)
  • Can't imagine what that is like to be honest, for my part I was genuinely trying to highlight the tensions in that part of the city. I haven't for a second considered that this would be terror related and particularly islamic terrorism hadn't crossed my mind. As I am sure is the case for the majority. by GBradz (Fri 26th Jun 2020 2:48pm)

  • If this generates more bikes great, been using these for commuting since 2018. My only gripe is that a lot of the bikes need fixing. I report issues on the app and keep a note of the bike so I dont rent them again and it seems to take months for them to get repaired if at all. The station at battlefield occasionally can be a bit bare and is kind of isolated so it can be annoying if you rely on them for a commute. by GBradz (Sat 27th Jun 2020 1:10pm)

  • Cracking. Used be my local jaunt. by GBradz (Mon 29th Jun 2020 11:57am)
  • My thoughts are based on what I know from a stint on jury duty and what is going on is that there are spots that people frequent in town if they are part of that lifestyle. Regardless of where they live in the city. What is happening just now is that the people are concentrated in the city centre due to ordinance on providing shelter. This is likely to have increased the numbers also community policing etc. is a lot less. My general observation based on the rise of anti-social behaviour/ attempted break ins where I live is that people are desperate. We have had 2 attempted break ins by the same guy who is literally trying every house in the area, you could say that's stupidity yes but I think that speaks to how desperate the situation is for some people. Also there has been an increase in wee neds clearly getting bored and looking for reactions. I suspect it will be diluted when things go back towards normality but it won't disappear, there was already a steady rise in rough sleeping that I witness (work on Queen Street) on my way into work from the South, this situation has pushed more people down that path sadly. by GBradz (Mon 29th Jun 2020 12:08pm)
  • Would agree I have never felt unsafe in 15-20 years living and working here, must confess I completely understand that If I was female I might have a different perspective and that includes living in some 'rough' areas, but I think everywhere has this undercurrent just now. People that you have never seen milling around etc. by GBradz (Mon 29th Jun 2020 12:13pm)
  • Agree status quo if not more highly concentrated at shelter areas. by GBradz (Mon 29th Jun 2020 12:11pm)
  • Are they they the immediate root of the problem in Scotland and in Glasgow specifically? by GBradz (Mon 29th Jun 2020 12:22pm)
  • Got to disagree with you there if you ever happen to have seen behind the veneer of San Francisco, LA and Vancouver to name a few. Now that is terrifying, Glasgow undoubtedly has issues but its not on the scale or concentration of most North American cities. What these cities have done is come up with effective ways of keeping it to within an area, most people will disagree with it but having an amnesty area and tough enforcement else where can work to keep people safe. It feels like Glasgow does neither. The police dont really want to get involved and the support feels fragmented. by GBradz (Mon 29th Jun 2020 12:31pm)
  • Worst one used to be the alley next to bier hall on Gordon Street before they put a gate up! Couldn't even open the window on a night shift during the summer.. by GBradz (Mon 29th Jun 2020 12:35pm)

  • Yeah drug and alcohol abuse, I had a good insight into how that works in the city centre as part of a court case involving homeless/transient drug and alcohol users. by GBradz (Mon 29th Jun 2020 2:33pm)

  • You seemed to suggest getting rid of the Tories will sort it, my point is, is there not some local changes that can be made? We still have 4 years of those cunts. by GBradz (Mon 29th Jun 2020 4:36pm)
  • Agree with you, Hastings street did shock me a bit in Vancouver as a bus that we got did go through there. Central station etc. being the main beacon probably isnt helping matters as you say! by GBradz (Mon 29th Jun 2020 4:35pm)
  • Weirdly that was a part of what I gathered as this guy lived in Yoker and would essentially walk or get the bus into town everyday to get wrecked and would meet up with people along the way. Seemed to hangaround a lot near the back of St Enoch centre. I think I know the guy you mean, ironically before lockdown the criminal that was part of the case I was on stopped me and asked me for money just before lockdown.... by GBradz (Mon 29th Jun 2020 4:42pm)
  • No need to apologise! by GBradz (Mon 29th Jun 2020 6:54pm)
  • I used west end driving mate but struggling to remember the name of the instructor as it was 8 years ago! http://www.westenddriving.co.uk/ by GBradz (Tue 30th Jun 2020 7:27am)
  • Worst without a doubt is Edzell. Lied to us to get us to move flat as their client was ditching them then the flat we moved to had no heating. Luckily I worked for a solicitors at the time and we basically sent a letter saying we are not paying rent until it’s fixed, which they never did and we eventually moved out. So rent free for about three months but was bloody freezing! Their general attitude and excuses were terrible. by GBradz (Tue 30th Jun 2020 7:31am)
  • That is a good shout tbf. We rented in the west for years directly from the owner. The rent was slightly cheaper than the average and they were very approachable and fast at sorting issues. Just a shame we couldn't afford to buy it when we had the opportunity. by GBradz (Tue 30th Jun 2020 10:43am)
  • Getting rid of them is fairly straightforward you can call a meeting and if 1/3 of properties show up and vote then can get rid of them and make a whole host of other decisions. So if another factor was better you could get rid of this one and find someone else (although not sure how good any of them are). Could also conceivably vote to say you no longer want them responsible for ground maintenance (if applicable) and whilst they look after insurance you don’t want them doing that for example. by GBradz (Tue 30th Jun 2020 3:39pm)
  • Seems like this is common, guy in my team had this too. He fought them and they backed down. Suggests they just do it and see if they get any fightback. by GBradz (Tue 30th Jun 2020 3:42pm)

  • I think they back the tests that they have done. Believe it gives you a percentage risk reduction off the back of their tests. So very much not saying 99.99% but I still think I would rather wear this than a disposable mask. by GBradz (Wed 1st Jul 2020 2:33pm)

  • Ours took three months! Garage was being used as a makeshift dump! by GBradz (Fri 3rd Jul 2020 11:41am)
  • Yeah as long as the address is registered you’ll get a green bin sharpish you have to pay 50 quid or you can buy your own as long as they are the right size and colour. You might be lucky with not many moves at the mo. by GBradz (Fri 3rd Jul 2020 7:51pm)
  • Yeah went to see them when they were built as was looking to buy at the time, lovely inside and nice gardens but I felt it was overpriced due to location. by GBradz (Mon 6th Jul 2020 10:46am)

  • Are there extraction fans installed in your flat? Particularly rooms that generate moisture such as bathroom/kitchen? by GBradz (Tue 7th Jul 2020 2:04pm)
  • I would recommend having them on for a good while after using either room. It helps remove humidity, generally speaking in a basement flat you want to have really good ventilation. by GBradz (Tue 7th Jul 2020 5:13pm)
  • I get that there is cycle lanes from Shawlands to the city centre. by GBradz (Wed 8th Jul 2020 12:05pm)
  • Not sure what the current state is but was pretty grim when no businesses were open. This is a delayed response. by GBradz (Thu 30th Jul 2020 3:53pm)
  • Earlier on in lockdown there was a lot of issues in the city centre, I summarised the issues namely drug taking and aggressive begging. Some people were being followed home. This response suggests that there are hotels in the city still housing homeless people. by GBradz (Thu 30th Jul 2020 3:53pm)

  • Shawlands market is crazy and over inflated due to lack of stock vs interest, has been this way for a while and is largely the same with the sales market too. Been a while since I rented but always found Dennistoun the best bang for your buck. If you are looking in Shawlands specifically I would look at the one bed market around Tantallon Road, that's going to be the best value. If you need 2 bed plus it's mental. by GBradz (Wed 30th Dec 2020 10:56am)

  • It’s important to a lot of older people who use it as a form of exercise and people living alone. by GBradz (Tue 5th Jan 2021 10:59am)
  • I have seen this in a few flats over the years, its normally the inner wall crumbling and settling at the bottom, generally the outer surface forms a crack. It's not a massive issue, but probably a sign of lack of maintenance over the years. My view was always if that's showing what else isn't being maintained. Of course the reality is that the work is always so expensive that it never gets done. In my entire time owning a tenement the only thing we did was replace rendering on the side and it was annoyingly expensive. by GBradz (Tue 5th Jan 2021 11:09am)
  • Possibly, he said there was a website where you can get a copy, I'll try and find out more. by GBradz (Tue 5th Jan 2021 11:05am)
  • Agreed, we had 2 done, we didn't like the first and found someone that was more favourable in their assessment. The checks were hardly exhaustive so its a fairly pointless process. by GBradz (Tue 5th Jan 2021 11:14am)
  • If its went to a closing date the estate agent must have a lot of notes of interest, in this situation it would need to be a very good bid to get it taken off the market, it is a ploy to up the bids. We were in this position before and offered a good offer but the seller took the one with no conditions as opposed to ours which was conditional based on a survey of work we felt needed done urgently. by GBradz (Tue 5th Jan 2021 11:12am)
  • I am not involved in that side of things but it was used like that in the first lockdown. I believe there are a lot of courses that did do this but then had their fingers burnt, by littering, vandalism and dog shite. As for the big private courses... nae chance. by GBradz (Tue 5th Jan 2021 11:18am)

  • Why are you not directing your anger at the government that set out the rules, I agree with you that there are far too many exceptions? Again I get the anger and frustration, personally I am unlikely to go as I don't agree with it, thought it was worth sharing but now I have been called a Tory and an idiot for doing so. by GBradz (Tue 5th Jan 2021 11:58am)

I wouldn't travel out of my health board area for a game but might play closer to home instead of going out for a walk which I can do. Maybe you need to take a walk and calm down mate. by GBradz (Tue 5th Jan 2021 3:51pm)

  • The truth is it used to be quite bad and has always had this stigma. My mate used to live there and it was not nice but that was 10 years ago. Now I regularly go to Victoria road and cycle through it in the good old days when you could go to town. Clearly there has been concerted regeneration efforts. I have lived all over the city and the chat is always the same. I remember the exact same chat when I lived in Dennistoun and I loved it. I dare say there are pockets and people you wouldn’t chose to live near if you had the choice but I have never lived anywhere where there is not the occasional banger. I am no fan of Sturgeon let me tell you but even I have to agree it’s used as ‘look at her constituency’ far too often. by GBradz (Wed 6th Jan 2021 7:32pm)

  • I think a post in a similar vein RE Govanhill was deleted yesterday, but you are likely to get people that tell you, their mate lives there and it's a shithole and people that have the opposite view. Been in the same position myself, I eventually hung about the area took walks etc to see what I could see and talked to a few neighbours. Might be difficult just now but I'd say your gut instinct is important. by GBradz (Thu 7th Jan 2021 2:19pm)

  • Not sure why this got heavily down voted, but there are several areas where there has been an increase in anti-social behaviour on buses that appears to correlate to this. by GBradz (Tue 20th Sep 2022 10:39am)
  • We had issues in early lockdowns with kids doing some of the same stuff and looking for reactions from people, some of my neighbours stuck with it and finally got the police to get involved. They were essentially throwing bricks into people back gardens and trying to break into buildings that were being developed/ vacant so this may have compelled the police to do something. We had a few people saying its kids being kids, but it was frightening for some neighbours. My wife didn't want to take the dog out for a walk. I can only sympathise with you and the police's lack of action. I think it does show that the reactions from the police was quite different here, perhaps a different area with differing priorities based on what is going on in the area (we had an attempted break in and they hunted the guy down with dogs one night). IMO the council/govt/police do not do enough to tackle this behaviour in any constructive way. I was reading that the bus station in Killie keeps having to be closed due to kids terrorising the place! Hope you enjoy your new place! by GBradz (Tue 20th Sep 2022 10:36am)

  • As far as I understand they are responsible for their waste often using 3rd parties and not the council for waste. I would assume that they have some responsibility for the outside of their premises. • I doubt the OP has access to public CCTV, the onus is on the premises or authorities to correctly inform people they are being recorded, however most businesses can say it has a genuine reason to record without consent which means GDPR does not apply necessarily apply so its bollocks to suggest if they have it that they can’t give to the police because of GDPR. The onus is on the organisation to decide if they will fall shy of the regulations by giving access to someone. by GBradz (Sat 13th May 2023 6:29pm)

I also know how that particular group thinks and it’s there as part of their belief in a wider conspiracy.
