  • Keep an eye on eBay / gumtree / FB Market place. A guy at my work is an avid cyclist had his 9K bike stolen from his locked garage, some junkie bastard had it on sale for £75 :) so they are obviously looking for a quick sale. In case you are interested the guy asked too many questions about the bike and the junkie shat it and removed all posts, 9K never to be seen again! Hope you get it my man by GrantS94 (Wed 30th Jan 2019 6:27pm)

  • Whilst i don’t think it would be popular Glasgow city centre would be ideal for trams due to it being a grid / block system much like Toronto & New York ( not a comparison that’s made often! ) The least they could do is expand the subway to the east end. by GrantS94 (Thu 10th Oct 2019 6:56pm)
  • The subway would pay for itself time and time again. Having said that they don’t even have contactless card readers.... by GrantS94 (Thu 10th Oct 2019 7:08pm)
  • When I say expand I mean they could have it like a Venn diagram with certain stops being the change over from east to west. by GrantS94 (Fri 11th Oct 2019 6:58am)

  • Probably posted this 100 times however I’m hoping this helps. Boy at my work is an avid cyclist bought a bike worth around 10k and built a concrete lock up to keep it over night. Cunts broke into it and it was on gumtree the next day for £70.... guy from work mailed asking to come and collect it however asked too many specific questions like serial number etc etc, seller got spooked and the bike was never seen again! So if it does go on FB market place, gumtree, Depop etc don’t ask too many questions, meet the guy with a few of your mates ( take from that what you will...) and regain possession! Hope you get it mate it’s a cracker! by GrantS94 (Mon 30th Dec 2019 10:25pm)

  • Mate I was in the exact same boat as you. Although I’m 26. Had a horrible upbringing had to get a job as soon as I left school and wasn’t able to peruse higher education. I felt like I was caught up in the rat race get up, go to work, dinner, sleep, repeat. I’d always wanted to go to college / uni but could never afford it however it will surprise you how many part time / evening classes they are at affordable prices. I am currently study at city of Glasgow college doing a Monday only for a 2 year HNC after that the jobs I could get start around 26-29k and that’s just the HNC. Mentally I feel so much better, it breaks up my week and gives me something to focus on, I would recommend it to anybody, my DMs are always open if you want to chat mate by GrantS94 (Sun 5th Jan 2020 8:38pm)

  • Done. Ages ago when I was on Tinder I matched with this girl that was a wee belter, somebody that wouldn’t look twice at somebody like me. Got chatting etc all the basic then she asked me to do her survey for uni. Without hesitation, I stopped what I was doing to fill out this survey, soon as I advised her it was completed she said “ Cheers mate “ then unmatched me. No even angry hahaha been done an absolute belter. So every time I see / do one of these it gives me a wee laugh. by GrantS94 (Fri 28th Feb 2020 6:24pm)

My brother is an avid fisherman, wins competitions etc however the places he goes are miles away maybe not for an American as you can drive for hours and still be in the same state! • Was out my walk the other day and the police were cycling about, they must have passed about 4 groups of at least five junkies sitting about no social distancing. Further along my walk I see them again screaming and I mean screaming at this one very clearly homeless guy to “ GO HOME “ guy was fucking gutted, he was trying to explain that he clearly doesn’t have a home hence why his lives possessions are in a fucking shopping trolly. Really felt for the guy, looked like he was having a hard time as it was never mind shite like that. You obviously have arseholes in every workplace but lost a bit of respect for the polis after that. by GrantS94 (Tue 12th May 2020 1:13pm)

  • Just my 50p... I believe that the names should stay out however a plague placed next to them explaining the history of each person. It should be added to the curriculum so children are taught about our past. One of Glasgow’s many empty buildings can be used as a museum. If you simply change the name it only takes for the curriculum to be changed and that’s it forgotten about.. Unsure about the statues, still on the fence about that. by GrantS94 (Fri 12th Jun 2020 8:36pm)
  • My main question is where does it end? Some buildings in Glasgow were funded by money made from slavery, what’s the plans with them? If people feel so outraged about modern slavery why do they still buy Adidas, Nike etc that are effectively modern day slaves, where is the line drawn? (Not a question for you directly) by GrantS94 (Mon 15th Jun 2020 3:29pm)

  • I cycle from Glasgow green to the transport museum and there’s always loads of skaters there in different groups, was there yesterday and there must have been at least 20/30 skaters, some on their own and others in small groups. • Hadn’t seen the junky that regularly leaves his needles and shite in my stairwell for months, thought he’d passed away. Seen him yesterday outside Tesco looking clean, healthy and relatively drug free. As much as i hated him glad to see he’s semi sorted himself out and hope he can stay clean by GrantS94 (Sun 12th Jul 2020 10:34am)
  • I didn’t hate him for taking drugs, I hated him for taking a shite in my stairwell, leaving used needles, blood everywhere and threatening people In particular old people and women. Surely they know the difference between right and wrong. by GrantS94 (Sun 12th Jul 2020 12:09pm)

Sun trap, close enough to the city centre without being the city centre and the council tax is cheep enough. • My advice would be to text the person back once advising if this continues you’ll be going to the police. As for your snapchat I’d recommend you only accepts those you know and make all your social media platforms as private as you can. I’d also highly recommend to anyone to remove their phone number from their accounts. Having said that, if it persists I’d also change phone number again only giving it to those you trust, if it happens after that then it would help to narrow the perpetrator down. Hope this gets sorted for you soon! by GrantS94 (Tue 11th Aug 2020 11:04pm)

  • Getting the train from high street yesterday, standing on the platform and this ned (in his 40s) comes over and says “ Green or white bro? “ said I don’t understand what he’s talking about, starts accusing me of calling him a dealer also while rummaging though his pocket he then asks rangers or Celtic (lied and said the most neutral team I could think of and said queen of the south haha) turns out he supports Carslisle... so you can see where this is going... starts kicking off again about me accusing him of being a dealer which again I never, I started to feel intimidated so walked away, turned round and he’s walking over however his Stanley falls out his pocket... must admit totally shat it, ran up the stairs and away total fight or flight. Imagine that’s your mindset? To just pick on random people at a station? Doesn’t matter what I said he’d obviously disagree. Scary people out there for sure! by GrantS94 (Sun 23rd Aug 2020 10:31am)

  • The issue I had with this area is junkies breaking into the stairwells to do a shite, leave their needles laying about and on some occasions blood all over the walls. Not too bad in the summer however winter is a lot worse for some reason. Had to move due to it, great location but that was the catch for me. by GrantS94 (Sun 25th Oct 2020 10:50pm)
  • If you have any other questions mate I’m more than happy to answer by GrantS94 (Sun 25th Oct 2020 11:03pm)
  • Noise wasn’t an issue, sirens are frequent but you’ll get that in any city centre. We had two heavy security entry system and somehow they managed to kick them in. One of them once said they have something that offsets the magnets give it a kick and their in. Good old lock and key would be best. The problem is if one finds out they can get into your stairwell they tell their pals that tell their pals so before you know it you’ve got 15 in. I’d never phoned the police in my life and I was on the phone to them 5/6 times a day sometimes honestly horrible. This is all of course my experience others will say different but I wouldn’t be buying a flat and paying factor fees every time a junkie wants to leave a needle in the staircase, will also reduce in value IMO by GrantS94 (Sun 25th Oct 2020 11:02pm)

Now I am drinking 5-8 bottles of Rioja a week which with playing football cancelled and drinking you can imagine I’ve put a few pounds on haha. Mental health is fine, work is stable purely drinking out of boredom and because I’m enjoying it. I feel like once we get out of this I’ll go back to how I was. by GrantS94 (Fri 18th Dec 2020 8:24pm)

  • Agree with other comments that £600 is a lot for a one bedroom for one person so I’d perhaps broaden your search. Best advice I can give is Aldi / Lidl is your best pal, download the Lidl app and take use of their deals. Also take advantage of new customer deals on broadband/electric etc. Can check what’s best for you on comparison sites. Don’t spend what you cannot afford, live within your means as boring as it sounds but you’ll sleep comfortably knowing you aren’t in unhealthy debt. Also apply for a single person council tax discount. Best of luck! by GrantS94 (Sun 21st Mar 2021 9:53pm)

For example I’ll go and see Dune in the Vue or Cineworld but went to see many saints of Newark in Everyman Never really had a bad experience in the cinema thankfully. by GrantS94 (Sun 17th Oct 2021 9:17pm)

I currently pay £65 a month for a one bed for gas & elec, my tariff unfortunately runs out in April and any website I’ve looked at it’s around £150-£200 which I don’t really fancy paying haha Had one of they moments just before you fall asleep you suddenly remember you don’t know where your birth certificate is. by GrantS94 (Mon 24th Jan 2022 9:13am)

  • Calton keeps telling the Gorbals that Brigdeton is looking at them funny. Dennistoun is that guy with working class routes that cause he has a decent job thinks he’s better than everyone else. The west end is affronted that the crisps in the sharing bowl are from Lidl and not Waitrose. by GrantS94 (Fri 28th Jan 2022 3:52pm)

  • Some people may disagree but I’ve always found the top floor of the catty to be slightly older than the usual club goer. I’d say the average age is 25 - 30+. by GrantS94 (Thu 10th Feb 2022 5:30pm)
  • It’s still the same, heavy / classic rock on the 1st floor IMO the reason the 2nd floor has an older demographic is the nostalgia of growing up with the tunes they are playing, all time low, MCR etc. by GrantS94 (Thu 10th Feb 2022 10:43pm)
  • Mrs been on a hen do since Friday. First time we’ve spent more than 24hrs away from each other since the start of the pandemic. Not gonna lie, enjoyed having the bed to myself and the PlayStation in the living room, eat all the shite I want and the dug on the couch. • Love shit like this, aw the best mate! by GrantS94 (Mon 14th Feb 2022 2:01pm)
  • 1. Wait till about half way through the show then there’s little to no staff on the doors, make it seem as you’re just coming back from the toilet if there is anyone either that or just say your mate has your ticket and he’s already in the hall 2. A bit more hassle however works every time I’ve tried. You’ll need two people with standing tickets for this to work. All three of you Meet in the foyer, the standing tickets go in door one. Standing tickets A comes back out with both standing tickets and gives you standing ticket B. Standing ticket A goes back into the door he came from and you enter door two with the standing ticket. by GrantS94 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 11:07pm)
  • Maybe I was lucky and the guy wasn’t caring, have only been to a handful at the hydro and that’s worked twice, worth a try by GrantS94 (Fri 18th Feb 2022 11:44pm)

  • Anybody out there with skills on auto cad? Needing something really simple done, there’s a tenner in it for your troubles! by GrantS94 (Thu 3rd Mar 2022 2:18pm)
  • I know it’s easy to stick the boot in and this has been said 100 times already however, I cannot believe how much nicer / cleaner Edinburgh city centre is. They’ve got their shit sorted, busses, trams etc smaller independent businesses etc that aren’t American candy shops. We did the Johnnie Walker experience and I feel that there is a real gap in the market for a huge interactive experience in Glasgow. Something to attract you into the city centre and explore while your there rather than, get in and out asap. You ever know, something like this could revive Sauchiehall street or the BHS building on Argyle Street. by GrantS94 (Sun 6th Mar 2022 8:57am)
  • Went to see The Batman last night, Story was a bit lacking however Robert Pattinson is a fantastic Batman. by GrantS94 (Sun 13th Mar 2022 9:13am)

  • I’d recommend trying to book the Ox and Finch which is a short taxi distance away. After that there’s a few bars in Finnieston personally I’d recommend the Kelvinhall Cafe which is a short walk from ox and finch. The bar is Expensive but being from Toronto you’ll know all about that :) It’s the opposite side of the city from me so I’ll leave other bar recommendations to the folks of the west end Enjoy Glasgow! by GrantS94 (Mon 28th Mar 2022 1:50pm)
  • Knew it didn’t sound right! I’ve updated it cheers by GrantS94 (Mon 28th Mar 2022 3:31pm)
  • You can buy beans directly from Black Pine just up from Paesano in the west end and also Us V Them at the Barras. Both highly recommended! by GrantS94 (Tue 29th Mar 2022 5:02pm)
  • I’ll give you the honest answer and if it gets downvoted it will tell you what you need to know. It’s still a requirement to wear one on public transport, entering / moving around a bar, restaurant, cafe etc. I’d say it’s a 70/30 slit of people not wearing them or not wearing them properly. If you feel safer in a mask then by all means wear one however you’re not going to be asked to put one on or feel the need to as nobody really cares IMO Enjoy Glasgow! by GrantS94 (Tue 29th Mar 2022 6:10pm)

  • Trying not to sound like a dick here but every other house / flat post here is about the south side. So you and half this subreddit are going to pay a premium for gentrification. I know people that have paid £5K over then my mate was outbid by £70k on a one bed tenement so it all depends on who else is looking at it. All the best mate hope it works out by GrantS94 (Wed 13th Apr 2022 3:39pm)

  • Exactly this mate, hard to feel compassionate for somebody that leaves their shite for blood needles on the stairs, shites in your close and tries to rob people including children. Fucking hate them. by GrantS94 (Tue 3rd May 2022 9:35am)
  • When junkies shite in your close, leave their muck for blood needles on the stairs and rob people it’s hard to feel anything but pure hatred for them. Very east for you to sit on yer high horse on Reddit telling people to stop calling them junkies when you’ve never been threatened with the pointy end of a knife before. by GrantS94 (Tue 3rd May 2022 9:40am)
  • The only people that care about them being called junkies are cunts like you that love to virtue signal on Reddit. Junkies themselves are devoid of any feeling both physically and mentally. I’ve seen one fall down 25 steep concrete steps hitting his head on every step and get up as if it never happened. I’ve also heard the screams of a 7 year old school girl when one of them threatened her with a blade and went through her paw patrol school bag for any spare change and the cunt took coppers. Don’t come on here thinking they are worried they care what you call them, they are junkies if they aw died tomorrow the world would be a better place. by GrantS94 (Wed 4th May 2022 1:45pm)
  • Calling them addicts would suggest that I give the slightest fuck about them, I wouldn’t pish on them if they were on fire. As far as ignorance goes my comments / feelings are far from the right way to look at it and people like yourself and your mum are doing the right thing but I simply cannot look past my experiences with them . I see that wee girl every other day and she needs to carry that trauma with her for the rest of her life. by GrantS94 (Wed 4th May 2022 2:03pm)
  • Mad you spent four years at uni to lecture people on the internet that couldn’t give a fuck what you say they are junkies and I’ll continue to look at them like that for the rest of my life. • 1. 15c - 18c is average for the summer here, in the winter it sits around 0, goes to around -3 often at night and during the day can goes as high as 4. Depending when you’re arriving Mountian Warehouse is closing down you’ll get yourself a decent warm cheap rain jacket and a few hoodies / quarter zips 2. Basketball is popular here, can’t help with AFL but I’m sure someone else can. There’s an app called “ find my player” get yourself on that. 3. If you move into a furnished accommodation 95% chance it will be a queen size bed so you’re feet are definitely hanging out the bottom of it. I’m 6,2 and struggle. Finding accommodation might be an issue as you can see from this subreddit it’s very competitive. 4. Food is good here, it’s a city that loves to eat and drink. The latest thing is Thai. Coffee is also very popular here with independent shops. Highly recommend Blackpine in the west end and Us V them in the east end, there’s loads of shops in the south side as well. 5. You’ll get used to it, similar to what others have said I’d recommend watching things like Limmy on twitch 6. NGL public transport is shit. We have a subway that doesn’t cover most of the city, the trains are expensive and unreliable Aw the best mate by GrantS94 (Wed 11th May 2022 9:47am)
  • My vote goes on Paesano and I highly recommend number 4 by GrantS94 (Mon 16th May 2022 9:39pm)

  • One of my good mates was in the same boat as you, had a trade however due to health issues had to change for the long term. He took the hit financially, went to college then Uni and he absolutely loves it, doesn’t work past 4pm and a half day on a Friday, also makes a packet as well. Not gonna lie it’s hard going from full time back to study and SAAS however the long term gain is well worth it. All the best mate hope it works out for you by GrantS94 (Mon 23rd May 2022 6:36pm)
  • Paesano is a 2 minute walk from Queen street and cheap enough by GrantS94 (Sat 28th May 2022 2:18pm)

I was 13 and in first year when the black parade came out, it was the first album I listened to front to back and at the time really made me feel part of a sub culture, seeing them for the first time last night after 16 years surrounded by people crashing towards 30 was a good feeling! by GrantS94 (Tue 31st May 2022 6:13am)

  • Noticed yesterday in costco that nearly everyone was overweight/ obese. Quick google search shows that 68% of people in Scotland are overweight and 28% are obese. that’s a truly shocking statistic. Why do people think that is? I personally believe it’s our food / drink culture. The majority of It is quick, high in fat, fast and cheap. It’s never going to change however I’d love to see a more European eating culture. by GrantS94 (Sun 11th Sep 2022 8:09am)
  • I unfortunately learned this this hard way. Won’t be anywhere near it for the foreseeable haha. Here’s my source - https://www.obesityactionscotland.org/media/1457/prevalence_causes__impact_f-2904.pdf by GrantS94 (Sun 11th Sep 2022 9:06am)
  • I never had any thoughts of people that were overweight / obsess it was an observation while waiting in line that almost all people there that day were heavily overweight. Not just carrying a wee bit of weight but incredibly fat. Especially young children. I am no longer overweight however have been in the past, the simple answer is I stopped eating as much shite, stopped drinking as much wine / lager and exercised 3/5 times a week. People have answered better than me however the culture along with cost / availability of good quality food being difficult to find is a huge cost IMO. by GrantS94 (Sun 11th Sep 2022 9:15pm)

  • Another vote here for the pot still. Has all the whisky you need. If you’re in the east end there’s a small bar called “ the Gate” they have a great selection in a smaller more intimate setting. If you have the time you can do a tour / tasting experience at the Clyde side distillery. I think this is really good value for money - https://www.theclydeside.com/book-a-tour/chocolate-whisky-tour/ If you find yourself in Edinburgh I would highly recommend booking the Johnny Walker experience. Five drams from their distilleries scattered across Scotland. The views of the city are worth it alone. https://www.johnniewalker.com/en/visit-us-princes-street/book-whisky-tasting/#id=four-corners-whisky-explorers Enjoy your time here! by GrantS94 (Fri 16th Sep 2022 9:59pm)

  • Honestly OP this. My brother was in your position 10 years ago. Got an apprenticeship as a plumber, served his time, worked for a few companies then went out on his own. He now owns his house and two porsches at the age of 29. The demand for a trade is unreal at the moment. If you become a plumber / heating and gas engineer with a preference air source heat pumps you’ll be rolling in it. That said, it’s a hard graft, need to go where the work is, long hours including weekends but the money is there to be made if you want to graft for it. • I was just about to mention that, it’s a junkies paradise. Four decent bikes as well probably a few grands worth. by GrantS94 (Wed 28th Jun 2023 10:41pm)
  • Good points. You can walk past them easily however any emergency services crew would struggle to get through with larger equipment. I don’t mind one but four is like fucking Halfords. by GrantS94 (Wed 28th Jun 2023 10:48pm)
  • Being slightly dramatic here however the woman in the top floor does have heath issues so if it comes to the worst paramedics getting a stretcher up there will be difficult to squeeze by them. by GrantS94 (Wed 28th Jun 2023 10:45pm)
  • It doesn’t obstruct me directly but long term there will be muck, oil and all sorts all over the landing and emergency services would struggle to get their equipment round them. One bike is fine but 4? by GrantS94 (Thu 29th Jun 2023 11:49am)

  • From one Jambo to another… whilst I’d say an internship or real life experience would be nice it’s not a deal breaker. We recently hired an electrical engineer grad for a semi senior role. What got him the job was eagerness to learn and actually start his career. He worked in a supermarket all through uni. You should heavily consider looking into working for Scottish Power as a network designer I’m sure they’ll have a grad scheme or multi utility design companies. EV charging is big business to them atm. by GrantS94 (Thu 13th Jul 2023 10:33pm)
