  • If your anniversary is between October and March then one night at The Whispering Pine b+b is £89 on an Itison deal right now. It’s in Spean, which is around 10 miles North of Fort William. There’s loads to do if you like the outdoors (hundreds of midges and dress for rain!). Hope this helps. Happy Anniversary. by Marzie20 (Mon 24th Aug 2020 11:34pm)
  • I eat a lot of paneer. The bigger supermarkets sell it but only really two types - a very smooth one and a rougher one. It’s around £1.50/pack from Morrison’s. I’ve heard it’s very easy to make with whole milk and lemon juice but I’ve not tried. Welcome to Glasgow! by Marzie20 (Tue 25th Aug 2020 4:53pm)
  • Linn Park is lovely. As is Pollok Park - but they’ll be busy! I’m thinking of trying to go somewhere a bit more off the beaten track. Enjoy your walk! by Marzie20 (Thu 15th Oct 2020 12:00pm)
  • I have a car, thankfully. I’ll check out Lang Craigs - I’ve never heard of it. Thank you! by Marzie20 (Thu 15th Oct 2020 12:19pm)
  • This sounds perfect. Thanks a million! by Marzie20 (Thu 15th Oct 2020 12:37pm)
  • Just checking, is his surname McNair or Malcolm? Apologies for being dense. by Marzie20 (Tue 10th Nov 2020 1:55pm)
  • I contacted BBC Alba in Stornaway by email a couple of years ago to ask about a documentary they had made that was no longer showing on iPlayer. They were brilliant and posted me two CDs with it on. by Marzie20 (Tue 24th Nov 2020 8:49am)
  • It did come from overseas... by Marzie20 (Tue 24th Nov 2020 11:22am)
  • ...and guess who replied to you in the wrong thread? Yep, me! 😂 They were really helpful when I emailed them. Definitely try it. by Marzie20 (Tue 24th Nov 2020 3:51pm)
  • We’re doing the Five March one and I have high hopes! The Anchorline and The Ubiquitous Chip are also doing them - no veggie option for me which is why we went with Five March. I’m sadly quite excited for the deep fried egg. 😅 by Marzie20 (Sat 26th Dec 2020 10:51am)
  • Yep - but for me it’s more booze than food! Their Christmas menu looked magic for veggies too...it was 5 courses. When I read their NY one I was a bit gutted it had so much booze. The Five March one is a risk though...I’ve no idea what half of it actually is. I hope you enjoy yours and have a happy new year. by Marzie20 (Sun 27th Dec 2020 10:06am)
  • Any objections to me screen shotting this and printing it out? #fogontheclydeahmwideowide by Marzie20 (Thu 7th Jan 2021 12:17am)
  • The thing about fear is that it’s a very, very similar feeling to excitement and you have the power to change the way you feel your emotions. Right now, your projecting how you’ll feel if things are bad. So, that’s good - you’ve proved you have the ability to project your feelings to a particular, future event. Can you guess what I’m going to suggest now? Try to turn your thinking around and picture it going WELL! What would that look like for you? What is the very best case scenario here? Then, when you’ve got that picture in your head, you’ll know what you’re aiming for. Even if it doesn’t work out exactly how you hope, just trying to make a difference to your life is putting you in control. Have a BRILLIANT time and all the best for the future. by Marzie20 (Sat 13th Feb 2021 9:07am)
  • You could potentially do Nat 4 mathematics or Nat 4 Numeracy with the Community Learning and Development team based in your local council area. by Marzie20 (Mon 29th Mar 2021 7:27pm)
  • Ah, yeah. Nat 5 is one up from Nat 4. I think there’s an externally moderated exam from Nat 5 onwards - usually in May. So, college is an option but no idea how it’ll work re exam cancellations. What course are you trying to get access to? Often, courses aimed at adults are more lenient with entrance requirements, esp older adults. by Marzie20 (Mon 29th Mar 2021 7:58pm)
  • Just another thought... check your SQA account. It’s easy to register on the site if you know your number. Get a FULL look at ALL your quals and see if you have Level 5 Numeracy in the Core Skills page. It’s possible (I think) I’d you did a Standard Grade. Most folks pay no attention to the Core Skills section as they’re not sure what it means. But...I’d argue my way through an application process with a number 5 against anything Maths / Numeracy / Application of Number titles in the SCQF Level section of my results. Message me directly if I can help more. by Marzie20 (Mon 29th Mar 2021 8:05pm)
  • Except I’m freaking out after collecting some from Linn Park. Made a beautiful looking pesto with some cashew nuts and olive oil. Then, the weird bit of my brain researched what might go wrong and I’m convinced I foraged wild lily instead of wild garlic. That shit’ll kill you!!! by Marzie20 (Tue 20th Apr 2021 10:51pm)
  • C’mon over to mine - just found a bumblebee nest in my porch roof! 🙈 by Marzie20 (Sun 30th May 2021 4:28pm)
  • That’s a perfect description! Mine haven’t infiltrated the loft (yet!) but I quite like watching them buzz about. Hoping they’re only here for summer and then find new digs. 🐝 by Marzie20 (Mon 31st May 2021 10:41am)
  • If it’s your garden then your dog should have free run of it. I own two cats and one is dog aggressive. He’s not scared at all and in the street, dogs run at him and he stands his ground. The dogs don’t know what to do! He’s an embarrassing wee bugger but I love him and I suppose I’ve got to know all my neighbours through his gallus nature! Greyhounds are different though - it’s in their nature to ‘know what to do’ with any small prey. I think I’d speak to my neighbour again, explain clearly your fears, and get a high power water pistol. Shoot any cats that come in and try to break their routine. They all have their own routes they’ll take over and over so it won’t take long to persuade the local cats that your garden is now a no-go area. I’d comb your dog outside too so their scent is everywhere. It might help a wee bit. Ultimately, your animal comes first to you and there’s no way he should be tied up in his own territory. by Marzie20 (Sun 6th Jun 2021 5:49pm)
  • I’m the same - soft as shit and love ‘em all. Hope you get it sorted. :) by Marzie20 (Sun 6th Jun 2021 7:00pm)
  • Download the mural trail app and go for a wander with purpose. A walk around the necropolis is interesting and there’s great views. by Marzie20 (Sat 3rd Jul 2021 1:20pm)
  • I couldn’t even watch it I’m afraid but still couldn’t stop thinking about it either. What a brilliant result. Thank you so much for doing something. :) by Marzie20 (Wed 15th Sep 2021 8:38pm)
  • Ooooft. Well done for taking it in. I’m pretty rubbish with birds but would’ve done the same. Maybe just keep it calm somehow - darkness helps I think. Some water and food? No idea what food though - I’d try anything from cereal to lettuce! I’m only really commenting so you’re not on your own. ;D by Marzie20 (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 12:34am)
  • It looks like a fledgling that’s maybe not been ready to fledge? That’s baby feathers, isn’t it? I’d keep the moggy outta the way (mine would be raging! ;D) and try to contain the bird in as big a space as I could with a big bowl of water (to bathe as well as drink), some random foodstuffs, and keep it cosy until the vet opens in the morning. I’d call them for advice. Or SSPCA. If it’s fallen outta a nest or tried to fledge and failed it would be traumatised. It’ll soon realise it’s in a 5* bird hotel so it’s all good! by Marzie20 (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 12:52am)
  • I don’t even know what species it is! I love the fact that you’ve rescued the wee thing though. I’m invested now so hope you’ll let me know what happens. It’s horrible to think it was flung out! 😭 by Marzie20 (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 1:03am)
  • The important bit - what is its name? You’re it’s parents now and need to come up with a name. by Marzie20 (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 1:17am)
  • Ach, wee Morag. Fingers crossed she made it through the night. by Marzie20 (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 8:53am)
  • I love AntiPasti - it’s a brilliant veggie option on the pre-theatre menu. I get annoyed at so many restaurants just offering one dish of the same thing - usually pasta or risotto when the meat eaters get actual sides! In AntiPasti it’s an actual vegetarian platter and it’s delicious! Cheap as chips too. by Marzie20 (Mon 11th Oct 2021 1:52pm)
  • See the Aldi in Rutherglen? Well...head there...and the wee flats en route are crazy with their deccys. If you drive up past the Asda on your left, keep going towards the Aldi and take a right into the wee scheme. They’re so over the top, and FUN!!! They won’t win any design awards but they always make us smile. Happy Christmas! by Marzie20 (Fri 26th Nov 2021 1:11am)
  • My wee bestie and I do this every year. Spend a wee week night driving around looking at the Christmas deccies. Some are amazingly beautiful and some are so random. I love them all. by Marzie20 (Fri 26th Nov 2021 1:18am)
  • You can get your jag ANYWHERE in Scotland. Glasgow had so few clinics, as did South Lan recently that I went to Stirling - 7 days a week, 10-7pm. Go on a weekday and it’ll be quieter. by Marzie20 (Fri 10th Dec 2021 8:48am)
  • We are toasty. We’ve a log burner! Checked on our pensioner neighbours who are good. We lit some candles and it’s lovely - sooooo quiet! We’re fine and hope others are too. by Marzie20 (Thu 6th Jan 2022 9:59pm)
  • Ach, just what anyone would do. by Marzie20 (Thu 6th Jan 2022 10:10pm)
  • I know most local authorities offer them. East Kilbride swimming baths gave me a couple of 1:1 lessons (lady was called Anita, and excellent). I’m a strong swimmer but lost my confidence in a silly accident - 2 sessions later I was sorted! Think it was about £20 a session but that was a few years ago. Good luck! It’s a life skill so better late than never. by Marzie20 (Sat 15th Jan 2022 4:34pm)
  • Try Cat Concern - they are on Facebook. They often have indoor only cats for rehoming and are a charity usually desperate for good homes. Good luck! by Marzie20 (Sat 15th Jan 2022 4:37pm)
  • There’s a wild goat park near Newton Stewart. Like actual wild goats. That you can apparently feed and pet. No idea if this is actually a good idea mind you! I’ve never been but read about it recently and it’s on my to-do list. Find it on Google Maps! by Marzie20 (Wed 23rd Mar 2022 6:32pm)
  • Why not get her a bird box with camera? You can get ones where you link it to your tv - my wee niece’s granny has one and she loves watching the wee sparrows doing their sparrow things! by Marzie20 (Mon 16th May 2022 5:38pm)
  • How would the letting agent even know that you’ve still got the lease with the halls of residence? It’s not really any of their business, is it? You’re renting a property through them, will be registered for council tax etc etc and the fact that you’ve still got your room at uni is neither here nor there. A friend is in the same situation having just moved from halls to a private let (via a letting agency). She’s got her room at the halls until mid-July so it’s not uncommon. by Marzie20 (Fri 8th Jul 2022 11:32pm)
  • I would just phone the letting agent and speak with the manager if possible, explaining very matter-of-factly that you had a lease with the uni for a ‘full year let’, as per ALL university lodgings (I think there are two types - 40 week or 52 week versions or something like that) and obviously your rental period is Sept-Sept and is fully paid for the year, as per your agreement. I’d have some red flags going on if I were you though. Have you researched the letting agency at all? It seems a bit odd. Is it possible there was something in the reference that’s concerning them perhaps? Just trying to see it from the agents point of view... by Marzie20 (Fri 8th Jul 2022 11:43pm)
  • See, now I’m overthinking this and wondering if they are looking to find a reason to decline you? It’s not actually possible for you to give proof that you’ve left the Halls of Residence because you’ve got a full year rental agreement that expires in September. And, I’m assuming, the Letting Agent is well aware of this. So... despite getting a guarantor in place, it would appear that they are asking the impossible here. The only reason for that would be if they wanted a reason to back out of the deal. You’re doing the right thing though - researching, getting other opinions and being very reasoned in your approach. As you’ve said, call them on Monday. You never know, maybe you just got a new worker or something and they are naive regarding uni letting contracts. Good luck either way and let us know how it works out. by Marzie20 (Sat 9th Jul 2022 12:07am)
  • I’d no idea Z Cars were still around! When I first moved here 7 years ago they were the go to taxi firm. That’s a great shout. Thank you! by Marzie20 (Tue 12th Jul 2022 9:24pm)
  • This flat fare sounds good. There’s nothing on their website about it - what price should I expect? by Marzie20 (Tue 12th Jul 2022 9:45pm)
  • I’m feeling the love for Z Cars so will call them in the morning. It’s a tricky bit, here, given it’s right on the Glasgow boundary charge line, so it’s great to hear Z Cars are still going. Thanks so much folks! by Marzie20 (Tue 12th Jul 2022 9:59pm)
  • I recently spotted the police telephone box up for rent on gumtree! No idea if it’s still available, or if it might suit your needs but thought I’d mention it anyway. by Marzie20 (Thu 14th Jul 2022 10:59pm)
  • Okay, that seems reasonable. I just didn’t know what the first move should be! I’ll get googling architects in the morning. :) by Marzie20 (Thu 14th Jul 2022 11:12pm)
  • This is amazing information. Thank you very much. Would you be able to share with me the company you are using please - since it’s a one bed bungalow you are in as well. Also, I’ve no idea how much the builders might actually charge (but obviously the architect may have a ball-Park figure). It’s very scary but I’m happy where I live, and I think this is definitely worth exploring given the way the housing market is. by Marzie20 (Fri 15th Jul 2022 8:01am)
  • Not any longer - there are ‘prescribing pharmacists’ nowadays. Bloody brilliant service. Had a suspected chest infection, local pharmacy sent me to one up the road who listened to my chest, confirmed likely infection, and prescribed me antibiotics. Saved a GP visit and job was a good ‘un. by Marzie20 (Fri 29th Jul 2022 3:08pm)
  • Living in Lanarkshire, I can recommend LAMH (Lanarkshire Association for Mental Health). A quick google tells me there’s a GAMH for Glasgow folks. Give them a call! Simply say ‘hi, I’m struggling with my mental health and wondering if anyone could advise me whilst I’m waiting for a GP referral’. It’ll take a bit of guts, but just might open some doors. It’s brilliant that you’ve written your post here, as getting it out of your head and into writing can be cathartic in itself. You are not alone, but you’ll feel like you are and I understand that. LAMH are really good at a community level, and will know of support networks in your area - they might not suit, but it’s worth a try - don’t stop trying to find the right path for yourself. And remember, it won’t always be like this. The thing with life is it’s constantly evolving, flexing and changing according to the things we choose. It might get better, it might even get worse, but it won’t stay the same forever. Take a deep breath, be proud of trying to make some positive steps and see if you can make some calls. (If you struggle to make calls, then maybe an email in the first instance). Good luck, and message me if you think it might help. :) by Marzie20 (Sat 30th Jul 2022 8:48pm)
  • Highland cow Pom Pom in google says Loch Ness Gift shop has them, as does Amazon. Shame I can’t find anywhere local. Good luck - it’s cute. by Marzie20 (Sun 31st Jul 2022 11:26am)
  • Stockholm Pizza in Bridgeton are amazing! Admittedly Swedish and not Danish but regardless, it’s bloody tasty pizza! Very good value as well and lovely people that run it. Yum. I want their truffle and mushroom Vita now. by Marzie20 (Mon 8th Aug 2022 10:09pm)
  • Try Carmichael Castle. A fun wee day out and a complete surprise when you randomly find a couple of quite substantial ruined buildings (that you ~can~ access. It’s a bit dodgy in places (esp. the upper levels) but worth the wee wander to find it. I know South Lan reasonably well but had never heard of this until I weirdly found this in a walk guide! by Marzie20 (Mon 8th Aug 2022 10:22pm)
  • They are tasty, tasty! It was a recommendation on here ages ago that led me to them and I’m so glad. Lol, they even ask how you want the base cooked. I was like, ‘errrrr... however you think best’. 😂 by Marzie20 (Mon 8th Aug 2022 10:57pm)
  • I’ve discovered a wee trick for this. I find something on AirBnB, or Booking, screenshot the main image and do a reverse image search to find if the accommodation has their own website - then book directly. It’s worked twice now (a caravan on Uist and a caravan in Ardnamurchan) and it’s been sooooo much cheaper - like almost half the price. by Marzie20 (Mon 7th Nov 2022 8:49am)
  • Google traffic cameras scotland and have a wee look around - worth a try! I think it was bad around Callander to Kilmahog yesterday and that’s not too far away. by Marzie20 (Wed 28th Dec 2022 9:29am)
  • You are bring brave! I got my architect thanks to you, and weirdly just got my first quote for extension of 7x3m (one wall already built as re-using existing conservatory wall) plus remodel of the internal space - £53k plus VAT. Give or take 5%. Jeez. Anyone want a kidney? by Marzie20 (Fri 3rd Mar 2023 3:08pm)
  • So, a recent experience of a lipoma (non-cancerous lump) at a GP in South Lanarkshire lead to being advised their removal is no longer possible on NHS, but with a GP letter of referral, the Nuffield or similar may remove it for around £150. First place contacted wants £800! Although a place in Newcastle will do it for £250. With numerous lipomas, this could be extortionate, but there is one that’s way more prominent that takes priority right now. Any advice/experience appreciated. Sorry to the OP that’s going through this. Hopefully a solution can be found. by Marzie20 (Wed 12th Apr 2023 11:01pm)
  • I love mine! I had a large alcove in my hall that I’ve turned into a ‘utility’ area with a couple of sliding doors. One side has shelves with all my cleaning/laundry/general shit and the other side has my washing machine (extended hoses fed under the floorboards to the original waste pipe) and a shelf put in to site my condenser dryer above the washing machine. I keep the door open when I use either the washing machine or dryer. My dryer has a water storage thingy that I empty maybe once a month - but I only use the dryer to finish things off, prevent the need for ironing and remove most cat hairs. I dry outside when I can, but still give everything a wee 20 mins in the tumble dryer afterwards. All I needed to do was get an electrical socket put in and voila - a utility hall cupboard was born. by Marzie20 (Fri 21st Apr 2023 11:34pm)
