  • Could you throw a pm my way? I've looked a few times and got completely lost! by Vinylcrackhead (Wed 20th Feb 2019 4:18pm)
  • My ex once managed to get to London and back from Glasgow for £46 split ticketing... It did involve 6 or 7 changes but made me laugh! Edit: Actually it was even less... It was £46 for the taxis either end included as we were laughing that the total cost was £46... Think it must've been about £20 or something. by Vinylcrackhead (Fri 22nd Feb 2019 4:45pm)
  • Very much depends on the night of the week. You going to be in the centre of town? If you're on Sauchiehall Street then both The State Bar and Variety Bar are both really quiet during the week. Both usually have quiet music on, The State sometimes has sports but Variety never does. Weekend they get busier but quieter than most. The State Bar has a good real ale and beer selection. Glasgow is a town where quiet bars tend not to last long so they're a bit few and far between. Most bars that have nights if the week where they're quiet will just shut for their quiet days. Unfortunately most places are busy on the weekend. Let me know what part of town you're in for more local recommendations! by Vinylcrackhead (Sat 23rd Feb 2019 10:08pm)

  • Shit outta luck now Jumpin Jack's has closed eh pal? by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 14th Mar 2019 5:11pm)
  • I did the same thing the other way round for a while. Its pretty tough if you start early but buses are your friend. Way cheaper to book online the night before. by Vinylcrackhead (Sat 16th Mar 2019 3:18pm)
  • Nah you're well within the confines of being "reasonable" - priority number 1 for any tenant is the roof over their head, of they don't respect the fact you've got bills too then do what you have to. I was having anxiety dreams the one time I had to delay a rent payment for a week, the only time in 10 years of renting in Glasgow that it wasn't paid on the day agreed. I'm looking the now. You know anyone with a place to rent in the east end? Haha by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 18th Jul 2019 7:32pm)
  • Believe me it's the same the other way round. Every viewing I have the place is gone by the time I manage to get my fiancée on a break from work to tell her about the place... by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 18th Jul 2019 7:45pm)
  • Funnily enough we've just had that conversation tonight. Now that we've seen a good few together and have a better sense of what's OK and what isn't and it'll be easier. I've got one on Monday and one on Tuesday. First one that ticks 90% of boxes I'll just say "take me to a cash machine" lol by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 18th Jul 2019 8:23pm)
  • We went simpler. Must haves and nice to haves. My personal "must have" list is straight forward. Can't look like a crack den. I'm so surprised how many flats that are in the price range I'm looking at look like utter shit and in one case the close smelled of human shit. My fiancée is a nurse and is very familiar with the smell of human shit. She just walked out. The hash leaf burned into the back of the close door was a particularly cool feature. And btw it's not a price range thing - we've been to some beautiful flats in the same bracket and just been beaten to the punch! by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 18th Jul 2019 8:47pm)
  • My wife, a nurse, would like not to be holding your relatives hand, because no family member can visit, as your relative begs her for help as they take their last breath and die but we can't all get what we want. by Vinylcrackhead (Sun 19th Apr 2020 8:56pm)
  • Haha I've got that on a t-shirt. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 9th Nov 2020 12:09am)
  • And no, he's not divulged any embarrassing or personal info. Worth adding. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 8:47pm)
  • So my pal gets this through his letter box. Sends a message and "she" gets really heavy really quick, sending weird adverts about dark room blow job rooms she's into and couldn't send any picture. Lots of weird details that feel very scammy. Blackmail or something. He's a bit freaked because they knew what he looked like and a description of his car and obviously coming through the door where he lives. Don't think it's a robbery scam as he's a pretty intimidating looking guy but could see him being targeted for some blackmail or sex scam. He's reporting it to the police as something is seriously weird about it but he wanted me to post here in case anyone else has run into this or to warn others about it. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 8:45pm)
  • I could've done without the flash photography at the end like a fucking Alton Towers ride. I can't imagine what possible scam is going on. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 9:14pm)
  • I'm a 36 year old man with a beard and at 11pm I'm the prettiest lassie on Duke St so you're doing well at 4pm. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 9:17pm)
  • Duke St can be odd. I once had a guy very politely tell me he liked my trainers and then asked if he could avail me of them. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 9:15pm)
  • Joking aside he's very freaked out and I feel guilty because when he asked me what to do with it I encouraged him because a) he's perpetually single and b) I thought it might be sweet. I feel guilty for the mound of paranoia and anxiety he now has (he's a pretty paranoid person anyway...) by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 9:21pm)
  • It's not a bad shout, it's his number he uses for work as well so he might not be that keen... I'll see what he says. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 9:38pm)
  • First name only, that being said its more than I'd be comfortable with. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 10:33pm)
  • Facebook turned that off last year because its fucking weird any creepy apparently. I don't have a Facebook but that was my first thought so messaged him to check what information he'd divulged and it's literally first name only. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 10:41pm)
  • Yeah I know what a cartel scam is but they (like most scams) work by casting a wide net and harvesting the ones that respond. This is way more targeted than that which is what makes it really strange. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 10:55pm)
  • The low tech way of doing it is getting them to click a link and submit their email for a log on page, bonus points in getting them to confirm if they are on android or apple. Once you have the email address and potential password harvest all other passwords from various online database breaches. Once you've done that you can access icloud (providing they aren't using 2 factor, I think apple make it mandatory now, my pals on iPhone I'm on android, I know on android you have to opt out rather than opt in) from there is easy to clone the data to a new phone. That's the low tech way. There are heaps of zero day exploits like the bezos one that can be embedded in pictures and videos all for sale if you know where to look. I highly doubt someone is putting a note through my pals door just to use a potentially expensive zero day WhatsApp exploit) by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 11:14pm)
  • Yeah my thinking was its way too targeted to be a typical scam, unless they're dropping these through hunners of random letter boxes (which I'd imagine they'd get a great initial response to but it's a lot easier other ways...) and no, he's not the heir to fortunes or anything. Plenty of friends with a weird sense of humour but they wouldn't do that to him, I'm sure he wouldn't mind me saying but he's not the best socially and anyone that even slightly knows him would know that this wouldn't be funny. He's only just moved in a few months ago so I'm not sure the neighbours would've been pissed off enough for that level of weirdness (although you never know) and exes I don't think would be of that ilk. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 11:43pm)
  • That's pretty much where I've left it with him. I was sure to tell him even if he has divulged something and is too embarrassed to tell me then definitely call them. He's spoken to someone and they're going to call him back. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 5th Apr 2021 11:47pm)
  • Sorry you're right, I guess by targeted I meant that it's hand written (it's not a photocopy) and it was put through his door. It's worth mentioning it was his actual flat door which although you can get into them all with the service button provided it's early enough feels unnerving... by Vinylcrackhead (Tue 6th Apr 2021 12:02am)
  • Hahahahaha by Vinylcrackhead (Tue 6th Apr 2021 12:11am)
  • Well fuck. That seems pretty likely. My mate did send me the advert but I didn't put it up here for some reason. by Vinylcrackhead (Tue 6th Apr 2021 1:23am)
  • Yeah it's looking likely the conversation was intended to be moved to Snapchat but he called them out and blocked the number. by Vinylcrackhead (Tue 6th Apr 2021 1:38am)
  • Tbh that hadn't occurred to me, for some reason in my younger more handsome days I was the object of affection for quite a few gay guys who liked straight guys and some of them got pretty weird with it so yeah I'd say that's a possibility. I'd say that's just as likely and on reflection more probable than some stuff here. by Vinylcrackhead (Tue 6th Apr 2021 9:22am)
  • Yeah very true. 11m from the UK (funnily enough I work around data security so this has been big news at my work...) by Vinylcrackhead (Tue 6th Apr 2021 10:39am)
  • I lived at Mavisbank Gardens years ago and it was cut off then. Not only is it fenced at the bridge end (and tar paint was put on the fence to stop people climbing over) but also at the Quay end has no through path and there is a locked gate to get out onto the road up to paisley Road west. Even when I lived there I thought it was insane. As I understand it the genesis of it was folk were turning up underneath the windows of the flats and sitting getting pished in the gardens for the flats so they just cut the whole lot off. I would assume because that was cheaper than separating the walk way and the gardens. by Vinylcrackhead (Sat 17th Apr 2021 2:06pm)
  • 1000% I was due to go to Atlanta this week for work and every time I'm there I'm all about Southern food as the only point of reference Glasgow has is KFC. One of my favourite types of cooking. From my personal experience US food gets lumped together in eateries and not much attention is paid to the historical context and what should go with what. Seriously if you open a place that even serves plain grits I'll be there with bells on! by Vinylcrackhead (Sun 5th Dec 2021 11:42am)
  • KFC is nearly alright if its going direct from the fryer to you. The minute it's in one of the keep warm bins it just goes soggy and gross. by Vinylcrackhead (Sun 5th Dec 2021 2:41pm)
  • Tibo is nice to sit in, next to coias as well. by Vinylcrackhead (Sat 29th Jan 2022 7:30am)

  • I've started doing it and I don't mean to. I've put it down to working with a lot of Americans for the last couple of years but drives me nuts every time I do it. by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 24th Feb 2022 12:40am)
  • It's why we built the velodrome. Idea was a place for aw the junkies to do wheelies. (this was the result of a very pished conversation between my wife and I) by Vinylcrackhead (Sat 5th Mar 2022 12:22am)
  • In the words of Jim Jeffries "doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room to be a fuckin hero" by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 7th Apr 2022 7:14pm)
  • Years ago I was playing a gig and got a black hack to blackfriars. On the way he managed to belt out something that was offensive to at least 4 minorities in a single sentence. It was impressive. When I get out the car and get my stuff from the boot he had a holdall lying open with at least 10 claw hammers in it. It's haunted me for 10 years why someone would need multiple claw hammers. I'd imagine even a claw hammer weilding psycho would just have the one. by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 14th Apr 2022 11:50pm)
  • When me and my wife moved into our fiat in Haghill. First day, looking out the back window, nice wee view and my wife goes "what the fuck is that?" looked down at the back garden and two rats were just pumpin. Fuck me. Welcome back to the east end. by Vinylcrackhead (Tue 31st May 2022 11:42pm)
  • That's awesome. My local library used to do this when I was a kid, tools, musical instruments, recording equipment all available. Defo going to check this out! by Vinylcrackhead (Sat 4th Jun 2022 9:16am)
  • Afraid not as far as I know. Dennistoun BBQ isn't bad but doesn't carry the staples of Southern Cuisine you mentioned. I'm flying to Atlanta for work this week and have demanded that my boss take me to some local places as I fucking love Southern food! There was a guy on here a few months ago asking whether Reddit thought a Southern restaurant would fly. Dunno if that came to anything. by Vinylcrackhead (Sat 11th Jun 2022 7:44am)
  • My boss is very puzzled by my requests. She keeps booking fancy nice restaurants and I keep saying "no... Find me a grubby family owned place and hasn't been decorated since 1970" by Vinylcrackhead (Sat 11th Jun 2022 12:34pm)
  • I'm sure the official number is 0800 GOFUCKYOURSELF. In seriousness though, even if you managed to call the depot they won't be able to help you. They won't even have the facility to look up the details as it's not a customer facing phone number. It's cheaper for them to have zero customer support and just deal with lost packages than it is to actually be helpful. by Vinylcrackhead (Fri 16th Sep 2022 10:11pm)
  • One thing I did that I didn't think would help but does. You can get packs online or you could do the same thing with clingfilm and double sided tape. My bathroom window just sucks warmth out, it's big, doesn't have the sun on it and just freezes. I got a pack of the double sided tape and plastic and covered the windows. Makes a huge difference. I think mainly in the bathroom because the internal condensation doesn't touch the window, either way it's made a sizeable difference. That and window insulation. by Vinylcrackhead (Tue 11th Oct 2022 6:41pm)
  • Back when I was at school and every other kid got taken to an art gallery or museum for a school trip, we got taken to the fucking sewage treatment plant. Dunno if it's the same now (I presume not, this would've been 30 years ago... Fuck I feel old now...) the sewage was treated and then dried, the water component was effectively treated and put back into the environment and the rest left over was now dried into wee pellets that were used in agriculture. Oh to be at a school effectively run by the Young Farmers Association... by Vinylcrackhead (Tue 8th Nov 2022 4:33pm)
  • So being from Aberdeen and moving to Glasgow 20 odd years ago this confused the hell out of me. The phrase "the back of" meant nothing to me, I didn't think it meant before the hour, it was just nonsensical. So here is how I've mentally rationalised it being any time between 5 past and roughly 20 past. If I'm arranging something with someone and I'm telling them we'll meet just past the hour, the hour hasn't come yet, it is yet to come, therefore, anything after it is on the other side of the hour, the back of the hour if you will. by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 10th Nov 2022 8:21am)
  • I suspect there is a significant difference between a lawful entry where nothing is found and a response to a complaint where entry was found to be unlawful altogether. For instance, if a warrant was granted for your pals place on dodgy information then its still a lawful entry. I suspect that'd be different to cops just booting in random doors, I say suspect because I don't know but if that wasn't the case then coppers would just boot in doors of folk they suspected and there would be no recourse. by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 17th Nov 2022 8:48pm)
  • The bit that's unfair in all this is the expectations put on staff. The T&Cs are for customers, my opinion is (totally based in nothing other than my experiences in other roles with a lot of terms for customers) is it shouldn't be your job to police customers. The customer asked for a thing, sell the thing. Perhaps to pass whatever inspection is happening if its a plain clothes thing you'd have to remind them that only the whole ticket is transferable but it really seems unfair on staff that taking responsibility for a customers behaviour is a bit much. The whole "it's stealing" line organisations use is bollocks. You can't steal a product that doesn't exist (the ticket upon printing). What if I have that ticket to someone that couldn't afford the train? Or they were only getting a train 2 stops but that ticket meant they could go visit their granny at the end of the line? Obviously those are silly examples but the concept stands, the company couldn't know what the receipiant was going to do before receiving the ticket. The real reason this exists is the companies greed. If a return was reflective of the value (for example, a return cost twice a single) this wouldn't happen but because of greed the pricing structure steals from the customer whenever I get a train and Scotrail just expect staff to, upon risk of unemployment, pick up the pieces from their greed. by Vinylcrackhead (Sun 18th Dec 2022 9:06am)
  • Always remember. Think how dumb the average person is. Then remember half are dumber than that. by Vinylcrackhead (Tue 10th Jan 2023 10:55pm)
  • On your second point I find this to be a really useful way to think about it. Roughly 15% of the population are left handed. This has been stable since around 1950. If you go back just 15 years before to 1935 the incidence of left handedness was only 2%. Why did lefthandedness increase from 2% to 15% in 15 years? Because WWII happened. Before WWII children were told lefthandedness was unnatural, it wasn't unusual to beat it out of children and force them to be right handed. WWII meant you suddenly had a fighting force of men who were god awful with a right handed bolt rifle nut fine with a left handed rifle. That culturally made it totally fine to be left handed. If you look at the stats it seems like the population suddenly became more lefthanded but the reality was they were always left handed, society just accepted it more. Its the same with trans issues, mental health, things like autism and ADHD. They've always existed but it's only now that they are socially and culturally being accepted more. by Vinylcrackhead (Mon 30th Jan 2023 12:10am)
  • Apart from this being so painfully wrong, it's also entirely irrelevant. You are indicating for other road users, the ones you've seen and crucially the ones you haven't seen. Hence why you should use them even if you don't think people deserve to have your intention indicated to them. The highway code (section 103) does outline usage of indicators to indicate to road users as well as pedestrians. Before you say BuT tHaTs NoT tHe LaW when you kill a pedestrian who was crossing the road and you mow them down without indicating that will absolutely be used as part of the criminal case against you. It's absolutely not "on them" - being behind the wheel of a car comes with responsibilities. Another indicator (no pun intended) would be if you did it on a driving test I think it would be a major fail. Source: worked for the criminal court and saw it happen a hundred times. by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 9th Feb 2023 10:55pm)
  • That's pretty good for 10-12 hours a day. We've a two bed tenement and use them 3 hours a day max and it's around 200 p/m. At the height of winter it was 400 being billed though. by Vinylcrackhead (Sat 11th Feb 2023 7:29pm)
  • I've been thinking about this a lot recently. When I was younger most protests I'd seen were things I broadly agreed with. The last ten years or so there have been many more that I don't. Thinking about protests I've been to on subjects I agree with, would I be upset or annoyed if the government said "that's fine but you can't do it in this specific place?" probably not to be honest. I think the difference is any protest I broadly support seeks to speak to everyone so providing the protest can happen where there are people. That's great. I can't think of a cause I'd support that wants to target a specific group... Maybe that's it. by Vinylcrackhead (Sun 26th Feb 2023 10:50am)
  • I mean... Invercargill is a shite hole too mind you. by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 2nd Mar 2023 8:49pm)
  • I used to work for Golden Charter in Canniesburn who sort of represent independant funeral directors. There are heaps of independant directors round Glasgow. Depends where you are in the city. Anderson McGuires and Fosters are well considered. Allan Menzies in the east are good (if east maybe stay away from McLeans, I'm sure its fine now but it appears that a bunch of money paid by people for funeral plans "went missing" https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/grieving-couple-left-bill-dads-25989380) Broadly speaking though every funeral director will do a good job, I spoke to hundreds if not thousands of them over the years and they're mostly all good folks. Edit:just to add all the directors on this thread are well known and well considered. Seeing names I'd forgotten like Littles and the like. by Vinylcrackhead (Sat 4th Mar 2023 12:50pm)
  • I rode through there on my bike and a wee ned fucked a bottle off my head. Luckily was wearing a helmet. Hostile space with hostile wildlife. by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 6th Apr 2023 12:15am)
  • First bus did give me a fun story once. On the top of a number 60 (think it might have changed number a few years ago...) heading down Duke St at half 9 in the morning on a Sunday. Couple of boys racking out lines on the shelf at the front of the bus, I've obviously been looking at them a bit long and one of them notices, I'm thinking fuck he's gonna get mouthy or something. "fuck sorry pal, that's fucking rude, you wantin a line?" Fucking had me laughing all day. But aye, used to get 2 buses to work and they should've lined up perfectly where I had 20 mins off one onto the other. So many times I was nearly fired for being late. by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 6th Apr 2023 5:40pm)
  • No no, this was years ago! I've not been down under there (unless I'm driving and heading to the M8) in years. by Vinylcrackhead (Fri 7th Apr 2023 2:00pm)
  • Oh man this brought back memories of driving with my grandad. He was in hydro electric from the 70s and many a trip in the car would come to a screeching halt to jump out and photograph pylons. For my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary we put together a film made up of digitised family photos and the like but there was literally thousands of pylon slides and film photos. by Vinylcrackhead (Tue 11th Apr 2023 9:58pm)
  • A friend of mine pulled out a total blinder with one of the chuggers. "sorry pal, I'm off to buy a big black rubber fist to fuck myself with so really don't have time." That's definitely not in the script. by Vinylcrackhead (Thu 11th May 2023 11:54pm)
  • Ironically oil is the least of the worries for beer production. Between Brexit and Ukraine (being the breadbasket of Europe) grain is exceptionally expensive right now. The UK doesn't grow anywhere near enough to meet demand and between Brexit red-tape for imports and swathes of the Ukrainian market collapsing not to mention Russian importing coming off the table (the world wide leader in barley production) breweries are struggling right now and are closing down left right and centre. I reckon by 2025 we'll be looking at £10 pints unless something massive changes. In total agreement with you. Not sure how that relates to thinking bigotry isn't cool. Seems to me anyone with even a vague understanding of beer production could work it out. by Vinylcrackhead (Fri 12th May 2023 12:27am)
  • Last time I was in the subby was my stag night. Only me and my best man remained. The bouncer looked us up and down and went "lads, if you were any younger or any older, I wouldn't be letting yous in tonight" Still makes me laugh. by Vinylcrackhead (Fri 12th May 2023 8:23pm)
