  • Never heard of one myself. I had to agree to work at the giant morgue at Braehead (that one was kept quiet), or be redeployed elsewhere. Within 3 weeks I was given a laptop and worked from home. It was seamless for me, start about half 8, work until half 4 then go for a walk. Pisses me off to read these people who think I sit watching Netflix all day. I've still got a job to do, It would be noticed if I wasn't doing it. by chrisredmond69 (Fri 4th Mar 2022 1:00pm)
  • Westminster decides the overall budget, gives it to the Scottish Government who look at it for a day, and this is handed to Cosla. The Scottish government has no input into how much the overall budget is. Cosla decides how much each council receives from the overall budget. by chrisredmond69 (Sun 6th Mar 2022 12:57pm)
  • Not sue about a tumble dryer, but a washing machine is bloody noisy! You can definitely hear one when it's going next door, and you definitely don't want to hear it after 9pm. I'd go for 10pm, but that's just my personal sometimes bedtime. I'd ask them nicely, if it doesn't work, get the landlord/ council involved. by chrisredmond69 (Mon 7th Mar 2022 8:54am)
  • Everything public has been underfunded for decades, everything private is a profit making scheme. Nothing is for your benefit. The entire economy is broken, time to try something different. by chrisredmond69 (Wed 9th Mar 2022 4:34pm)
  • This was long before I even knew about the infamy of Cumbernauld Town centre, true story- Standing at a taxi rank after a nightclub (Papa Docs, maybe?) The only time I ever saw a building and felt the need to comment on how ugly it was. I got howls of agreement from everyone there. They were all from Cumbernauld and knew how bad it was. I lived in Cambuslang and had never seen it before. I just saw it and went 'What the fuck is that?' by chrisredmond69 (Mon 14th Mar 2022 6:31pm)
  • Apparently they exist. 3 boys from Cambuslang arrived one night, there was 3 of us. I think my mate worked with a Cumbernauld native and heard it was good. I remember the talent being incredible, for a Camby native that had never seen the Toon, that's not surprising, but still left alone, cos I was utterly clueless. by chrisredmond69 (Tue 15th Mar 2022 10:43pm)

  • Housing is a necessity, not an option, so works best socialised. The anger comes from the fact it shouldn't be allowed in the first place. Only capitalists/ neoliberals disagree, as they're making a small fortune from doing fuck all while telling everyone how hard they work. And the allusion that anyone can do it? They can't. You need a 20% deposit first, when half the population live week to week. Having said that, I'm making about £400 pm from ONE HOUSE. I justify it to myself by the fact I'm going to give it to my kids when they're old enough. by chrisredmond69 (Mon 9th May 2022 2:13pm)
  • Great point. People love being in an expensive home, even if they could never afford to sell it. by chrisredmond69 (Tue 10th May 2022 5:52pm)
  • Who is renting? Which house? by chrisredmond69 (Tue 10th May 2022 6:04pm)
  • No. But it always puzzled me why there was socialised healthcare, police, fire and rescue, public services, but not socialised food. The most basic human need. Maybe the basics should be socialised. Pick up the basics from the basics shop and head to Aldi or Waitrose for the steak, chicken, spices and pot noodles. (Whatever you're in to). Not in a foodbank kind of way, but a socialised free for all kind of way. Maybe rickets would stop making a comeback. Your logic is correct, your solution is not. Where would I pick my steaks up from? by chrisredmond69 (Tue 10th May 2022 6:01pm)

  • Most people in Glasgow/ Scotland don't wear masks any more, but if I see someone who is, I assume they are in a vulnerable group, or just like to play it safe. I respect their wishes and keep my distance too. No one is going to get upset about it, mask or no mask. we're very easy going here. by chrisredmond69 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 7:34pm)
  • Ultimately, if you just lie, it's still almost impossible to evict anyone. Just pay for any damage caused and there will likely not be any problem. They can pressure you with stiff language, but that's about it. Some landlords don't mind having pets, but they insert the 'no pets clause' purely so they can bill you for any damage caused by the pet. by chrisredmond69 (Thu 30th Jun 2022 6:20pm)
  • I'll rephrase. They can give you 28 days notice, they're hoping you comply, pack up and leave. But you don't have to leave, and to get you evicted the hard way takes a fortune in lawyers fees and 6 to 12 months of court hearings. That's what I mean by 'impossible'. It's not worth the landlords time or effort. They can send you letters but that's about it. They can't even use harsh language, as you can complain to the local authority and they could lose their landlord registration. So long as your rent is being paid, they'll let you off with almost anything. Mind you, probably best to make sure you're not renting from a gangster, you might find yourself short of an eyeball. For what? A pet? It's not worth the hassle. Banning pets in the tenancy agreement is similar. They're just hoping you quietly comply, but if you move in and bring a pet anyway? There's very little they can actually do. Obviously, I'm not suggesting anyone tells their landlord "i'll do what I want, fuck you", cos that would make you a bad person. by chrisredmond69 (Thu 30th Jun 2022 9:58pm)
  • Hell yes. Most people don't know, so they voluntarily move out quickly. But you can dig in, pay your rent, and find somewhere you REALLY want to move to, there's no rush. You'll have a really pissed off landlord, but that's all. And if he takes you to court, so long as you continue paying your rent, and haven't completely wrecked the place, the court won't make you homeless. by chrisredmond69 (Fri 1st Jul 2022 1:47pm)
  • Grim innit? I actually stayed there as a paying customer. Worst place ever. Cheapest place ever as well, go figure. It was the night before my wedding over at the registry office in Woodlands. My future Brother In Law and myself went to a comedy club and the titty bar. Pretty tame stuff really, the wedding the next morning. Woodchip on the walls, the breakfast was RANK. Ended up getting coffee and cake at Starbucks. Best bit was- When it came to settle the bill, the Brother in Law paid for it, as a small, personal wedding gift. I said "What? If i knew that I'd have booked the fucking Hilton!" by chrisredmond69 (Tue 5th Jul 2022 5:28pm)

  • Absolutely. I'll be striking myself. Wages have stagnated for 40 years. Time to go back to good old fashioned tax the rich and pay for stuff. Like the NHS, public services, a society that works. people have blamed the poor and blamed immigrants and its got us nowhere. Time to blame the real culprit, corporate greed. by chrisredmond69 (Wed 24th Aug 2022 11:37am)
  • I'm confused. Are there any that don't sell beer? by chrisredmond69 (Fri 16th Sep 2022 1:41pm)
  • Drumchapel and Pollokshields definitely. I'm a Council worker, we've always covered those. Cambuslang I grew up in when it was Glasgow and always considered myself Glaswegian. Only the oldies thought they were 'Lanark'. I lived in Paisley and definitely not. Nearly got my head chewed off a few times for suggesting Paisley Buddies were Glaswegian. The rest of them are the suburbs but not proper Glasgow. by chrisredmond69 (Fri 30th Sep 2022 9:42am)
  • The border used to be between Halfway and Blantyre. Cambuslang, Newton, Halfway was Glasgow, Blantyre was Lanarkshire. The councils changed about 1996 and the border moved to Prospecthill Road/ Edinbeg Avenue, Toryglen, and they all became South Lanarkshire, Rutherglen as well. Before that, Maybe the 60s or 70s, Cambuslang was part of Lanarkshire, and the oldies still said they were "fae Lanark". You'd be hard pressed to find someone old enough that still said that, we all consider ourselves to be Glaswegians. by chrisredmond69 (Sat 1st Oct 2022 2:21pm)

  • Train to Largs, get ice cream at the big ice cream shop, wander along the beach, have an Indian in the Indians across from the train station and home again. by chrisredmond69 (Thu 20th Oct 2022 5:48pm)
  • I'm hoping to not do that. I can get the cheap ones for £8 each, but I'd need to interlink them myself (I'm a spark). At nearly £60 each, I would rather do it myself, but if I can get much cheaper, I'll get the Wi- Fi/ radio frequency ones. I'm trying to balance out the equation of 'cost' versus 'can I be arsed doing it'? by chrisredmond69 (Sun 23rd Oct 2022 2:31pm)
  • Landlord here. I'm a nice one, so I'm not sure, but I'm sure if you report him to the Council, they'll look into it. I'm also a Council worker, so here goes. It probably won't happen quickly, but he WILL get what's coming to him. The Council might remove his landlord registration (unlikely I think), most likely he'll be sent a strongly worded letter. It's not much, they WILL remove his landlord registration if he's found to be a repeat offender. (He may have previous complaints) At very least, he'll stop acting like a dick to his tenants. by chrisredmond69 (Sat 29th Oct 2022 8:55pm)

  • Yes, this one. I don't know why its not right to drink hot water from the hot water tap, its just something my parents told me. I was always taught to put cold water in the kettle, and boil it to make tea or coffee. If you want a cold drink, let the cold tap run for 10 seconds before filling the drinking cup, it makes the water colder and more refreshing. Its also the best water in the world straight from a Scottish cold water tap. Also, don't drink the tap water if you go to London. Its rank. by chrisredmond69 (Sat 19th Nov 2022 9:24pm)

" You've done everything you can. It's lousy for the dogs that their owner is a cunt, but he is. And you're 100% right. Keep them muzzled or keep them on a leash if they're going to bite. If my dog was a biter, I'd have her muzzled, no doubts about it. She's a Golden Retriever, so biting is a long shot, but it's still valid. You should report it before they attack a child. I know that sounds melodramatic, but it could well happen. Good luck. by chrisredmond69 (Sat 26th Nov 2022 12:53pm)

  • Welcome to late stage capitalism. Capitalism was never designed to help anyone except the rich to become even wealthier. Now that's happened, there's nothing left for those who don't already have assets. I feel for the next generation, I really do. Unless you somehow earn a lot of money, like over 40K as soon as you leave school/ Uni/ training. you got very little chance of anything really, until you're about 40. It doesn't surprise me you got little hope for the future, cos you don't have any. As a Gen X, I'm embarrassed what the boomers did to your future. They stole it so they could buy a big house. Tax the wealthy, build back nationalised industry, increase wages, build social housing, offer a future to the next generation. As I see it, we haven't done that. The papers have got us blaming immigrants and benefit claimants. by chrisredmond69 (Tue 3rd Jan 2023 6:02pm)
  • I got you. And everywhere is the same. I've been waiting a year for my teeth to get fixed, and It's still going to cost £400! On the NHS! Asking to pay for therapy is inhuman. • The Scottish Government have no say in how much money that pays for the Scottish NHS. The block grant is calculated with reference to spending on equivalent public services in England. Ergo, the Tory party spends less public money on NHS England, the Scottish government gets less cash for NHS Scotland. • I couldn't disagree more, but please don't misunderstand me. I don't believe it's underinvestment, or mismanagement, or anything of that nature. It's a policy of concerted and deliberate attempt by a Tory party determined to get it privatised. They privatised everything else, after all. The only thing left is the NHS. Look at how many people are paying for dental treatment. They have essentially privatised dentists. I've waited a year for treatment. And it's STILL gonna cost £400! It's impossible to get through to the GP or the dentist. I don't believe it's an accident. I believe it's been designed that way. by chrisredmond69 (Mon 30th Jan 2023 7:33pm)
