  • Glasgow is unfortunately tuning into no go zone. I was on argyle Street just yesterday. Junkies everywhere dealing in plain sight. For some unbeknown reason there is no police!! Until the government/police take control this will just keep happening. A food delivery rider was also attacked near the four corners Jamaica Street. by devdann (Fri 10th Sep 2021 7:05am)
  • How much are you paying now? I believe in Cambuslang area you would get a decent flat for £500 a month. It's a lovely area not far from Newton Station. South Lanarkshire council. 15 minutes from Glasgow city centre by train. Have you tried a housing associations (GHA, CUBE) ? I used Cube housing in Maryhill when I moved back from Vietnam to Glasgow was about £400 a month then £100 council tax. Glasgow seems to have same issue everywhere with bins overflowing... by devdann (Wed 22nd Sep 2021 1:20pm)

  • If true i bet RMT are having a field day. If Abellio don't engage they will just continue with strikes. Sadly just need to bite the bullet until this whole mess get sorted. Abellio should not have let it get this far... by devdann (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 1:45pm)
  • Exactly right now the no Sunday service is just the norm everyone has accepted it. by devdann (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 2:46pm)
  • Agree without train my only option is a bus that takes 45 minutes from where I live! Train is 15 minutes. by devdann (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 9:43pm)
  • Abellio seem less interested in talking anyway. The wider rail service is not affected like you said. I am sure if there was a weekday strike this would be resolved in matter of days. It's unfortunate that all parties have no mediator to get what the union want in front of the correct people. Abellio & scottish government just need to follow transitional process. by devdann (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 9:53pm)
  • Funny story I was one standing at the bus stop in Drumchapel waiting to go to town. A guy walked up asked did I want anything? I said no thanks mate he then started to tell me he got arrested for stealing nescafe coffee from supermarket. Another time I was on 60 bus heading home wee guy sat next to me asked of I wanted any gear? I said naw mate. Maybe its just me but I always seem to bump into these people who have something thats either stolen or selling gear lol πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ by devdann (Mon 4th Oct 2021 10:33pm)

  • I have friends who are software developers outwith UK. I am also qualified developer looking for my first job. My options listed below. senior developer 3 years + professional experience getting a job should not be difficult. But you would need to be good at current stacks. Look at job descriptions for this. Sponsorship would be possible. Junior 1-3 years professional experience getting sponsored would be difficult as the talent pool is massive, basically get few more years or com to country under different visa then apply for jobs. Big companies like banks consider 3 years + as junior but this should not stop you applying. Depending on what you can do React, Vue London might be a better option due to supply of jobs there. by devdann (Wed 17th Nov 2021 1:42pm)
  • Daft question where do I book this? I have not had any notification from NHS by devdann (Mon 13th Dec 2021 12:41pm)
  • Was same when I lived in Maryhill, I don't blame the bin men they are overstretched and expected to cover wider areas. I think the issues is management or lack of possibly funding issues. At least during COP the city looked cleaner. by devdann (Thu 16th Dec 2021 12:53pm)
  • Reason for this is because when reading the syntoms for PCR I don't have. Like no fever or lose of smell/taste. But if common cold conditions apply I will get a PCR just want to get better. by devdann (Tue 21st Dec 2021 7:56pm)
  • Yep that's my take on it. Hope you get better not a great time of the year to get ill with all the bugs going around. by devdann (Tue 21st Dec 2021 8:16pm)
  • At least you managed to get a PCR in the end. by devdann (Tue 21st Dec 2021 8:15pm)

  • Maryhill is great never had trouble apart from odd junke asking me to climb though someone owndoe at age 9 lol. Bearsden probably has more crooks than Maryhill πŸ˜‚ by devdann (Sun 23rd Jan 2022 11:34pm)
  • I remember my unclea neighbour selling drugs in the flat in Wyndford used to have a queue of junkies just waiting. Also wee dafties would be playing golf on the green grass aiming for the windows. by devdann (Sun 23rd Jan 2022 11:32pm)
  • Yeah I heard that. Good place needs a regeneration. Really is the types of people who live there, not most family friendly place... by devdann (Sun 23rd Jan 2022 11:36pm)
  • Had a mate who lives in Ruchill thought the place was an absolute dive, especially outside the shops just opposite the park. Then apparently there was fights in the park on a Saturday probably the usual. by devdann (Sun 23rd Jan 2022 11:51pm)
  • We had a neighbor who suffered from a disability he didn't have any friends his sister would visit him 1 every week to give him his DLA. So he was left to fend for himself basically. He used to have half the young team, junkies at his flat drinking and smoking etc using his money to buy it all. He was an alcoholic who suffered on a daily basis. We tried to help him but it got unbearable teens would just hang outside his door. We called the police and Social Services as we assumed his was vulnerable. We shared a veranda so we would hear the music, shouting & fighting occasionally the police would come round to ask if we saw the fight, apparently a teen was attacked with glass bottle in the flat. Anyway social work did nothing because he said he didn't want the help & his sister claimed to be his career. A few years later he died... Where was the junkies, young team when he died no where to be seen they just find another flat rinse repeat. by devdann (Sun 30th Jan 2022 11:15am)
  • Surely the working from home, people not travelling as much was a good thing environmentally. But isn't long term solution. If trains/buses where more affordable then that would help lower the amount of drivers using the roads. The council counteract this by charging high fines and getting rid of parking areas. Not surprised at all. by devdann (Mon 31st Jan 2022 8:40am)
  • Yes housing associations work as independent businesses. Just pick your area check what HA operates then join their list. I didn't get anywhere with Queens Cross housing(nice flats near Firhill) but I got a flat pretty much immediately with Cube housing (Maryhill high rise) was cheap also. Again when using these HA you cannot be very picky. by devdann (Mon 31st Jan 2022 6:03pm)
  • The great reset is coming, and I thought those people on Facebook where nutters by devdann (Fri 4th Feb 2022 3:14pm)
  • You go online complete memorial tree/bench application form then they will ask the appropriate park if there is availability. Tree are about £288 Benches £1, 215 Takes 8 weeks I believe. by devdann (Sun 6th Feb 2022 4:52pm)
  • I wear a mask all the time in shops, on bus, train and any public settings except when walking around the park / Street. The major people not wearing masks I would describe as either children 13+ or 18 with mentality of a child. by devdann (Mon 7th Feb 2022 10:41am)
  • Not very knowledgeable on the subject but I believe this is due to 2 things. Some BTL mortgages don't allow for students to rent the property stipulated when applying. Rent guarantee schemes won't allow students, also people claiming housing benefit. Again could be a number of factors like landlord sees more long term gain in professionals renting or they worry students will damage the property. by devdann (Tue 15th Feb 2022 8:26am)
  • When I was house hunting I saw this lovely semi detached home, the owner took us round explaining all the benefits, amenities etc. Then he told if that he had an offer 15% over asking price. Then said if we offer x amount we'd have a chance..... We didn't make an offer due to it being literally 1 minute from a pub lol. But it didn't sell for 15% over maybe 10% at most. Wait a few days until deadline phone and ask if there are any notes of interest, I believe they will tell your solicitor if your the highest bidder. Good luck by devdann (Wed 16th Feb 2022 8:14am)
  • I would confirm all the estimates again sounds very high to me. Before renting did you see the EPC rating of the flat to get an idea on how much it would cost to heat it? Obviously you took the flat as is, due diligence is 2 way thing when it comes to rentals. I would ask the landlord to consider the upgrades like double glazing if there decent they will see it from your prospective. Sounds horrible not really what you need when prices are expected to just keep going up for next few months. by devdann (Fri 18th Feb 2022 2:28pm)
  • Never lived on top floor my friend did, if you don't have a factor you will need to approach your neighbours to see if they will contribute to repairs. If you have a factor then they should help with this process. This is the reason I don't buy flat on top floor is this exact fear. It's a real pain in the arse is some of your neighbours will probably not want to contribute as it's not their problem. As it won't affect them immediately. by devdann (Sun 27th Feb 2022 6:16pm)
  • There are more affordable options outwith the south side, west end of Glasgow. Have you tried areas like Cambuslang, East Kilbride etc? I mean it if just a starter home won't cost you to much over home report value possibly below and will allow you to build equity. Then when you want a nicer place sell that home. When I was looking in 2020 prices went up like crazy the pandemic had started bidding wars people paying well over homes value just to own a home. I saw some really nice places but could never win. Then I looked at Cambuslang bought a home never looked back only 15 minutes train to city centre or 15 to South Side. The only thing you don't have in Cambuslang compared to East Kilbride is the amenities no shopping centre. Just a main main street. In East Kilbride you have a shopping centre but its way further from Glasgow City centre. by devdann (Sat 12th Mar 2022 7:37am)
  • You really only have 3 choices. 1 Find someone who wants to rent with you find flat together (coworker, students) 2 find a flat that already has people wanting to let rooms out (spareroom, student forums, try face ook groups for universities) 3 rent a flat and ask landlord for permission to sublet a room (spareroom, and gumtree) by devdann (Sat 12th Mar 2022 7:50am)
  • Honestly I would just walk right past her, she has basically made a judgement before you have even moved in. But I think the only way would be to have gets a thick carpet in the living room & or big rug. no laminate or hardwood unfortunately. Cheap would be the rug, I imagine the type of thick carpet might set you back a bit. Good luck sounds like a nightmare. by devdann (Mon 14th Mar 2022 6:53am)
  • I couldn't and places selling them are ripoff CEX is one of them maybe just wait another 6 months. That's what I am doing. by devdann (Wed 16th Mar 2022 1:57pm)

  • Look for all I know that could have been a Glasgow live reporterπŸ™‰ by devdann (Fri 18th Mar 2022 8:20pm)
  • I mean the way he would deliberately shout and point at people and try to start rights, yeah even for Glasgow on a Friday is unusal I guess. by devdann (Fri 18th Mar 2022 10:19pm)
  • Aye I pitty anyone who needs to wait for a bus in that area. Years ago I used to get the bus from McDonald's on Argyle Street next to Junkie Lane and savers. Honestly a fight everyday either junkies or teens killing each other. by devdann (Sat 19th Mar 2022 6:09pm)
  • I also used First Morgage would highly recommend. by devdann (Mon 21st Mar 2022 10:21am)
  • Exactly guaranteed rent insurance ect won't allow and some BTL mortgage lenders stipulate that in agreement. by devdann (Mon 21st Mar 2022 10:43am)
  • Yes unfortunately the government won't take on the responsibility of an insurer. In reality I guess many BTL and private landlords would not mind taking people on benefits as they know its easy money, but all the other factors would make it a huge liability. Unless insurance companies view people with little to no income as credit worth rent guaranteed schemes will not work. by devdann (Mon 21st Mar 2022 11:34am)
  • Yes seen him a few times, like a high pitched version of the song. Would drive me nuts if I had to listen for more than 2 minutes when passing himπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ by devdann (Wed 23rd Mar 2022 8:04am)
  • Since they started the works in Argyle Street my trains have been worse. Now the service I get on Sunday is better than Saturday lol. Also the train that is upoose to arrive at Central at 8:50 got there at 9:05 so I was late. Anyway let's just hope since government is taking over maybe things will start to improve. I would like to see a service that joins bus, trains and subway making it affordable to travel. by devdann (Thu 24th Mar 2022 5:28pm)
  • Can it ge lt any worse? I probably shouldn't ask that question!! by devdann (Thu 24th Mar 2022 6:11pm)
  • That would be great definitely cheaper than current setup we have here. by devdann (Thu 24th Mar 2022 6:11pm)
  • Simply any issues will be dealt with by you or say you have issues with roof you would need to contact your neighbours get them all to agree to share the cost. Not worth the trouble in my opinion. On the plus side you save on the factor fees and headaches factors can cause. by devdann (Thu 24th Mar 2022 6:15pm)
  • When we bought our home the only thing we did was send a Christmas card each year just friendly gesture(neighbours sent us one so would be awkward not to send them one) . But no we didn't give gifts or receive gifts very normal. Don't give gifts to your neighbours it may make them feel like they need to return the favour. by devdann (Sat 26th Mar 2022 6:46am)
  • That's great that your looking for something you love in an area you like, totally better than renting as you will see your mortgage is much cheaper and you own somethin rather than nothing in the end. New builds just are just made to sell I don't think quality control takes priority just location and how quickly you can get them sold. We love West end and South Side as there is just so much choice you don't really get that out here. Best of luck. by devdann (Sat 26th Mar 2022 11:45am)
  • We felt the same can be a balancing act as you don't want to pay too much over the odds for something you know is overpriced. You also run the risk of losing money with correction drop in price long term this won't matter. We looked at place in New Gorbals went 20k over asking was already at higher end. So we decided to look further out. Actually all properties we looked at before Cambuslang went above asking price substantially. But that was during the height pandemic. Sure we spent 10k on kitchen, bathroom but we never spent more than we could budget for so we have savings, investment ect. by devdann (Sat 26th Mar 2022 12:06pm)
  • We also wanted a house and a garden that was one of the reason we chose a house instead of flat. We both have worked from home and some office based work but only 15 minutes to City Centre so can't complain. by devdann (Sat 26th Mar 2022 12:34pm)
  • That's just so from a distance you think great they have police, until your being attacked it just stands by and watches. by devdann (Sun 27th Mar 2022 7:47am)
  • lol Who talked about affordability your finding statements that are not in the post did you actually read the post? I was asking about the DD being doubled. Click bating but you find the time to comment, seems like one of us is the attention seeking type :) Have a nice life. by devdann (Sun 27th Mar 2022 10:18am)
  • I mean yes kinda the consequence of raising rates will equal less mortgages not less demand just less people getting loans. Meaning cash will be kind in the current climate. The situation could become very bad for people already in the rental trap as their cost will increase significantly, if you BTL landlord is made to pay more they will pass that down to tenants. Banks will get tougher on lending requirements. by devdann (Sun 27th Mar 2022 10:39am)
  • Nice, at least you found somewhere you can call home and reduce your debt on the house meaning you equity is higher. I mean in a few years maybe the housing market will not see same increases due to increase cost of living. Could mean in the long term you can get your ideal flat/home. I do feel sorry for people in substantial debt as even a 1% increase can cost thousands. I put most my savings into the deposit just to own more than the bank of my own home. by devdann (Sun 27th Mar 2022 10:36am)
  • Yes thanks for catching that :) school catchments in that race yet by devdann (Sun 27th Mar 2022 10:40am)
  • People should be putting their F##k bags in the floor the seats are for people. Doesn't help that on my way to work we have 3 carriages for last few weeks during the peak time lol. So yeah it rude to expect your bag gets the seat πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Maybe just sit on the bag valuable lesson leaned. by devdann (Tue 29th Mar 2022 9:31am)
  • Well to put it into prospective my Saturday service is now slower than my Sunday service who would have thoughtπŸ˜‚ Yes you read that correctly. On another note yes they changed hands management wise will stay the same, what a beautiful non corrupt time we live in.... Just waiting for that kids, teens ride the train free announcement just in time for the summer😊 unfortunately I won't benifit from that. So what does the working class adult get £6 return ticket or £22 a week with no guarantees.. by devdann (Mon 4th Apr 2022 8:46pm)
  • That would be great by devdann (Mon 4th Apr 2022 10:38pm)
  • Lived in Newton for 1.5 years Good train connection only 15 minutes to City center can be longer of they are doing works. Also easily access to South Side of Glasgow. Driving would also be just as fast. Does have small shop on Westburn & short walk to Cambuslang main street where you can go to Morrisons for big shop. House prices are responsible if buying a flat or terrace house. Like others have said does lack some amenities but for the price I would definitely do it again. All depends on what your looking for garden, wide open areas, easy access to City Centre? by devdann (Fri 8th Apr 2022 7:23am)
  • I bought just because of station and good size for the money by devdann (Fri 8th Apr 2022 5:54pm)
  • I live near the station any source on shops, amenities as I just see more advertisements for housing not mention of shop etc by devdann (Fri 8th Apr 2022 5:53pm)

  • Yeah I used them for my first home I cancelled their insurance policy as I found cheaper. The day later they phoned to ask why I cancelled and that I need insurance. I told them I got new policy that stopped them. by devdann (Wed 4th May 2022 1:01pm)
  • !thanks Thank you I was able to book an appointment😊 by devdann (Wed 4th May 2022 1:07pm)

  • Aye just waiting on a call back getting an appointment not the easiest thing,πŸ˜‚ I hope they can prescribe without me actually having to attend GP by devdann (Mon 9th May 2022 7:13pm)
  • Cambuslang is alright you can train to city centre in 15 minutes from Cambuslang Station. There isn't that much to do out there you have a supermarkets like Morrisons, Farmfoods and some small shops on main street. For the price it's probably better than some areas in Glasgow considering the close proximity by bus, train. by devdann (Tue 10th May 2022 8:19pm)
  • Guess he was right after all πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ by devdann (Fri 13th May 2022 12:42pm)
  • Nope, we are all struggling but have to get on with it. I hate how strikes actually harm the people trying to just get on with their life's/work. It's was only a few months ago I didn't have a Sunday service for months! due to strikes. I make much less than 30k but I don't have Sure we all deserve a better pay increase but at what cost, I bet salaries go up our train fares go up. by devdann (Wed 25th May 2022 7:42am)

  • Well it's tracked on the app by GPS so are they getting to your place then earing the food? Can you not see on the app where they went after taking the order from the restaurant... No happened to me yet.... by devdann (Thu 2nd Jun 2022 5:07pm)
  • Same as me no idea how they got my CV and email address I definitely never applied for them. There email is like a marketing campaign no real information just lots of hype. OP thank you for maikg this by devdann (Thu 9th Jun 2022 12:22pm)
  • For the sake of 4 months is it worth it? You need to register as a landlord, then get property ready all the checks, paperwork and certificates landlord insurance, tax implications so its legal. Then you have risk of something going wrong when your not in the country, say they don't pay or trash your property so you have the funds to get someone out at night to fix boiler issues, Leaks? Just my though, I also wanted to do this in a few years as I used to live in Vietnam, but I think to make it worth your time I would do minimum 6 months to 1 year. Get an agent that offers rent Guarantee and will help with legal costs if eviction is necessary. by devdann (Tue 14th Jun 2022 12:27pm)
  • At least they didn't take the kitchen sink 🀣 by devdann (Wed 15th Jun 2022 10:22am)
  • Had an interview in Easterhouse could only get there by bus so I looked up bus route and planned it all out. Then when I got on the bus I asked the driver do you stop here? "I would tell you if I knew where it was pal" Basically Google maps was wrong so I wanted to make sure the bus actually stopped at a specific point. by devdann (Sun 26th Jun 2022 8:23am)
  • What a fine ambassador for Glasgow 😁 by devdann (Sun 26th Jun 2022 8:53am)
