  • I live near this. Walked past about 6 and there was about 15 Scottish water vans, load of fire engines and 2 big lorries unloading JCBs and couple of big diggers. Going to be a while before it’s sorted. Wouldn’t fancy working for Scottish water tonight. by simonmcseabass (Tue 22nd Jan 2019 8:22pm)

  • I used chipsaway.co.uk when someone scuffed my back bumper. Guy was supposed to come to the house and do it on the street but it was raining so he took it away day before then brought it back. Couldn’t tell the difference in the paint after the repair. Did a really good job. Was about £120/£150 I think. Was a few years ago. by simonmcseabass (Tue 16th Jul 2019 10:49am)

  • Could park around Raeberry Street. Used to live in that area and never had any problems. Might be a bit of a trek to Kelvingrove but you can walk through the park. Be careful though as N Woodside Road has parking controls so don't park too close to Great Western Road.. by simonmcseabass (Thu 9th Jan 2020 10:14am)

  • Same answer as everyone else. Your asking why you can’t get the benefits of paying tax while not paying your fair share. If you had any sense you should of retained money in your company for a rainy day. by simonmcseabass (Fri 27th Mar 2020 4:11pm)

  • Also saw a sign in Tesco Maryhill that they are starting to look for festive staff. Will likely apply to all Tesco’s. Good luck finding something. by simonmcseabass (Mon 26th Oct 2020 10:30am)
  • I had 9 windows replaced a couple of months ago. Was just under £7k. We paid extra for the high efficiency double glazing. If you are looking at upstairs windows would check and see if you need scaffolding or not as this will likely add to the cost. I live in a bungalow so didn’t have to worry about it. by simonmcseabass (Mon 9th Nov 2020 9:11am)
  • Helmet, lights, reflective clothing and a decent bike lock is a must. You will likely be cycling in wet weather so mud guards are a purchase as well. Get good lights as well. Not cheap ones that people can barely see. Higher lumens the better. I did the scheme a few year ago and also got a bag with rain cover as well. by simonmcseabass (Wed 18th Nov 2020 2:06pm)

Just need to email them pictures of what you have and they will give you a price. Worth trying and see what they quote you. I ended up getting a short term van rental and took it to the tip myself. by simonmcseabass (Wed 13th Jan 2021 2:32pm)

  • Don’t rush into buying something. It can be quite frustrating buying a house especially if you have put in a few offers and been out bid or rejected. You will get to the stage where you want to buy a house just because you want one and don’t want to end up with buyers remorse. Take your time to view the place. And look everywhere. Look in roof spaces and lofts. Check electrical distribution boards, boilers. You don’t need to know about them to know they look old. If your feeling really brave you can take a socket or light switch off and look at the cables. Someone else has already said that the home reports are useless. When I bought mine home reports said the electrics were fine and the roof was fine. Last year we had building work done and had to get all the electrics replaced because they were fucked and I’m now looking at having to get a new roof because that is also fucked. by simonmcseabass (Thu 11th Mar 2021 6:44am)
  • I was the same. Saw one house that was all ones but when you got to the house there was bracing all round one corner due to subsidence that hadn’t been fixed. Saw another where again was all ones but the boiler was in a glorified basement under the kitchen and had warning stickers all over it saying it had been condemned by British Gas. The owner said it was fine and he had uncapped the gas and turned it back on 😳. by simonmcseabass (Thu 11th Mar 2021 12:14pm)
  • On the home reports they basically say they did what they could but it’s up to you to check and if anything is wrong then tough. by simonmcseabass (Thu 11th Mar 2021 12:11pm)

  • Looks like an old school electric storage heater. Would probably need an electrician to disconnect it. (Or if it’s on it’s own spur you could do it yourself if you are confident) If it is a storage heater is going to be really heavy so would look to get the cover off and pull the bricks out to make it a bit lighter. by simonmcseabass (Fri 3rd Sep 2021 5:53pm)

  • The dual carriageway on Maryhill road next to the science center floods every time it rains really heavily to the point where you have to drive on the central reservation to get past. I have been reporting it for about 4 years now. Still isn’t sorted. Would be quicker if I got a shovel and dug the drains out myself. by simonmcseabass (Wed 27th Oct 2021 8:22pm)

  • If you are looking for a job in IT you should look at codeclan if you want to get into software development or capslock if you want to get into cyber security. With Codeclan there is a load of funding options available. With Capslock they do a scheme where you don’t pay for your course until you are in a cyber job earning over a set amount, or you can go down the loan route. Where I work we have taken on a few candidates straight from codeclan and are working with caplock now to see what our options are but with both of them they put a real focus on getting you a job afterwards. Both of them are 16 weeks long (I think) and they partner with some really big companies so plenty of opportunities. All you need is a laptop and an internet connection. by simonmcseabass (Tue 23rd Nov 2021 12:40pm)

  • I go there early in the morning and it pretty empty. Have been a couple of evenings and it can be pretty mobbed. Check the app and it will show you the busy and quiet times. I like it. Equipment is pretty good, decent amount of space. Some of the kit could do with a good clean but that’s the same for most gyms to be honest. by simonmcseabass (Mon 24th Jan 2022 6:44am)

Both of them have recruitment teams and will actively help you find a job afterwards. With Capslock you don’t pay for the course until you earn a specific amount so it is in their interests to help you. Both worth a look and you can can go into them both with 0 prior knowledge. by simonmcseabass (Tue 25th Jan 2022 6:31am)

I’m in a bungalow and the guys who did my windows did a lot of work outside to fit new sills and seal the windows. Some fitters might do it hanging out the window, some might not. by simonmcseabass (Mon 31st Jan 2022 10:02am)
  • There is no such thing as road tax. It’s a vehicle excise duty which is based on the amount of emissions your vehicle emits. Cost of maintaining roads is covered by general taxation. in 2015 the government announced a new road fund which will be funded by VED in part, but it has been delayed by covid. by simonmcseabass (Wed 9th Feb 2022 3:36pm)

Got my new passport back after 3 weeks. 3 months later still don’t have my sons passport. Can’t get hold of anyone to get an update. Last update we got was check the online portal and that was it. • My sister lives near there and that is the main concern of most of the current residents in that area. Any time I visit it’s hit and miss trying to get a space. The roads are really narrow round there and that many flats is just going to make dodgy and illegal parking more common. Councils solution will be parking permits which doesn’t fix the problem but makes them more money. by simonmcseabass (Wed 11th May 2022 6:10pm)

  • I imagine they are trying to do something similar to the £1 house schemes they had in England. Buy house for a £1, have to fix it up within a certain time period and can’t sell for a set time period. But as someone else said, these places look uninhabitable. Hard enough to get people to agree to do large scale maintenance on occupied flats. Looks like the council want rid of them and make them someone else’s problem. by simonmcseabass (Wed 27th Jul 2022 2:19pm)
  • Saw bloc party there a couple of years ago. It’s a good venue. As people have said sitting on concrete isn’t the most comfortable. Just be prepared that it might pish it down. Also wasn’t a lot of toilets at it so you might need to queue for a while. by simonmcseabass (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 8:54am)
  • We just got a bathroom fitted by SC Designs. Based in Bishopbriggs. Were really good. Good service for the design and site visits. Fitting was quick and done to a good standard. I did look in the main terminal though at it was pretty busy. It seemed to be moving. Security was fine. • When we got ours done it was between £1200-£1500 per m2. But that was a few years ago. Prices have gone up a lot just now. Mainly due COVID impact on cost and availability of materials. by simonmcseabass (Sun 2nd Oct 2022 3:29pm)
  • It depends. Do you need stairs put in or do already have them? Is there electric and plumbing already in your loft? How many dormers do you want? Do you want a bathroom up there? Will you need scaffolding? What is access like to the property? That’s why the rough cost of £1200-£1500 per m2 is a good way to get a rough estimate but without plans you won’t get an exact cost. by simonmcseabass (Sun 2nd Oct 2022 3:59pm)

  • Do you rent or own your flat? Not wanting to sound horrible but those windows are done and need replaced. Can see the wood is rotten. Need to speak to your landlord/housing association to get them replaced. If you own then there is grants available to get them replaced. That will make a big difference to the temperature and condensation. by simonmcseabass (Tue 13th Dec 2022 12:46pm)
  • So you can tell by looking at the frame. Can see it’s black and the paint is coming off the wood. If you can press the wood with a screwdriver or a blunt knife you will see how soft the wood is. Chances are the frames are full of water. Couple of other people have given you advice on citizens advice. Can also try shelter Scotland. They get recommended on this sub a lot and seem to get good results. If you have an email for your landlord/ letting agency start emailing them. Email them every week asking for updates. Helps create a trail. Keep a record of any phone calls or visits as well. Good luck with getting it sorted. by simonmcseabass (Tue 13th Dec 2022 1:04pm)

We got 2 dormers, new stair case, created 2 bedrooms and space for a shower room but didn’t do the shower room until this year so that was another £8k on top of the £65k.
