  • The problem arises through a combination of two issues. Firstly you have the problem of anti-social bawbags who don't give a fuck, and you have a city council who refuses to pursue the litterbugs and fly-tippers. I had a similar problem with a tenant dumping their rubbish in the backcourt rather than walking 30 feet to put their rubbish in the bins. This went on for 6 months or more, resulting in a mountain of black bags pilled up just outside the backdoor of our close. I figured out who was responsible for this trash mountain, and I contacted the council in the hope that they would take action against him. The council environmental services officer turned up and told me that as there is no video evidence there was nothing he could do. He then went on to tell me that unless the tenants paid to have the mess cleaned up the council would take us to court. We contacted our factor who arranged for a contractor to come and lift all the rubbish dumped by the anti-social bawbag. The cost of this clearance was £140, which isn't a lot of money when split between 8 flats, cheap you might say. Our local council recycling centre is in Queenslie and that is where the collected rubbish should have been deposited. At that time it costs £180 per tonne for a commercial business to dispose of their rubbish, or a minimum of £140 for up to half a tonne. As the company appointed by our factor charged us £140 to lift the rubbish mountain and it would have cost the contractor a minimum of £140 to dispose of that rubbish, I can only guess that our rubbish was fly-tipped elsewhere. I tried to do the right thing. I contacted the council to deal with the problem and they and they threatened me with prosecution. I contacted my factor who appointed a contractor who went on to fly-tip the rubbish. The problem with Glasgow, too many anti-social bawbags, shit-tier council, shit-tier factors, shit-tier contractors. by Glesganed (Fri 17th Jul 2020 10:17pm)

  • I worked in construction for a number of years and generally speaking the industry is sensitive to the needs of the local community. If you get nowhere with the site agent, I'd be surprised if that's the case but you never know, raise a complaint with building control at Glasgow city council. by Glesganed (Wed 9th Jun 2021 3:16pm)

  • Glasgow, with 3 universities and countless collages, has a large student population, with people from across the world coming here to study. The city and its people are generally friendly and welcoming, and being the biggest city in Scotland it has plenty to see and do outside of your studies. Initially, there will be a bit of culture shock, but the biggest issue will probably be adjusting to our winter weather (more rainy than cold) and the local accent maybe take a bit of getting used to. I hope you have a great time in our city and good luck with the studies. by Glesganed (Sat 12th Jun 2021 10:04am)
  • With such a big move it is only natural to have a sense of trepidation. It will take you some time to acclimate, but even though Glasgow is a fairly large city, people are generally friendly and helpful. And with the large student population in Glasgow you should have no problem in finding help and advice from your fellow students and student organisations. Once again, good luck in your studies, i hope you enjoy your time in Glasgow. by Glesganed (Sat 12th Jun 2021 11:54am)

  • Had exactly the same problem. One of my neighbours was reluctant to walk 5 meters to the bin shed, so instead dropped his garbage just outside the doorway to the backcourt. This went on for months before we figured out who was doing it. A fox had been rummaging through the bags during the night and the next day i found a letter addressed to one of my neighbours sticking out of one of the bags. I approached him and he denied all, so i contacted GCC. GCC told me that they could take no action against the guy who was dumping the rubbish, but if we didn't clean it up or pay to have it cleaned up, the GCC would clean it at an astronomical cost and bill us all. There are too many manky cunts in this city, its shameful. by Glesganed (Fri 25th Jun 2021 3:38pm)

  • It was ccp policy, under Mao, to export food to soviet countries (Russia, East Germany, Hungary etc), as China had little else of value to trade with. However, the peasant farmers were unable to meet the production needs of both the food export market and the domestic need for food. Domestically, the food requirements of the urban dwellers were met to some degree, but the peasants, the very people who were producing the food, were left to starve, dying in the 10s of thousands. Then the great famine followed later, leading to the death of 10s of millions (estimate vary from 30 million to 70 million starved to death in a 3 year period.) All of this mass death a direct result of Mao/CCP policy. The CCP are not a political organisation, the CCP is a death cult. • I'm in the same situation. Your factor will tell you that the title deeds for the property require building insurance that covers common areas within the property. This is true, but nothing in the title deeds says that it must be a single insurance policy secured through a property factor. I'm in the process of taking my factor to the Homeowner Housing Panel over their insistence that i take the building insurance provided by them. As everything property factor, its a racket. Your property factor wouldn't happen to be Hacking and Paterson would it? I know all property factors are extremely bad, but H&P are a whole other level of bad. by Glesganed (Mon 16th Aug 2021 11:32am)

  • In the past I've made a claim against my building and contents insurance to cover damage caused by a kitchen fire. Two different insurance companies, but no problem with them working together. • They are legit but easily ignored. In Scotland, when parking on private land (such as a supermarket carpark), any parking fine issued should be issued to the person who parked the car that led to the fine being issued. It is not always the case that the driver, at the time of the fine being issued, and the owner if the car are the same person. Companies such as Horizon Parking will issue the fine to the owner of the car, based on car registration and contact info obtained from the DVLA. It is possible that the driver and the owner are two different people, so it is possible that the fine has been issued to the wrong person. If Horizon parking were to take you to court over the parking fine, the onus lies with them to demonstrate that the person the fine was issued to is the person who was driving the car when it was parked. If the parking company cannot demonstrate this, they do not have a leg to stand on. by Glesganed (Sat 4th Sep 2021 7:59pm)

  • Its not viable as a part time job. The cost of the licence and training up front is close to £600 for a private hire licence, and a taxi license will be more expensive as there is more training involved. The cost of renting a car for private hire is around £170/week then you have fuel cost on top of that. Depending on which company you drive for, there will be a rental cost for using their app, or uber take 25% of all of your earnings. There was a coke dealer in Haghill and anytime i got a job to there there would be 5 or 6 taxis waiting outside the house. But i found junkies to be fairly passive folks, it was the drunks that really pissed me off. Drunks are far less predictable and far more prone to anger and violence than the junkies. by Glesganed (Wed 20th Oct 2021 5:10pm)
  • You certainly get to see the underbelly of society when driving a cab. I once had a reformed junkie, now cokehead, who told me a story of her sister taking her kids (the reformed junkies kids) on holiday to Spain with her sister's family. Her son had convinced his sister that the plane was going to crash before getting to Spain and they would all die. Understandably, the young girl was terrified and refused to go on the plane. So what the mother done, this is the person telling me the story, is get half a valium and put it inside a sweetie then gave the sweetie to her terrified daughter. Shortly after the young girl is out cold and off they headed to the airport. What adults do is on them, but to see their kids suffer really broke my heart. by Glesganed (Wed 20th Oct 2021 5:32pm)

  • It very much depends on the covid variant. Currently, delta is, by far, the most common variant circulating in the uk. The spread of the delta variant is reduced in the double jabbed for a fairly short time period, but around 3 months after the 2nd jab, the reduction in spread of the delta variant is greatly diminished. So this idea that an app will reduce the spread of covid in venues by 50% is just not true. by Glesganed (Wed 27th Oct 2021 4:36pm)

What you have to remember, Glasgow’s tenements were builtover a century ago, an age when clean running water was a god send, and I’m not sure sound proofing had been invented. If you are sure your downstairs neighbour isn't at home, jog untill your hearts content, but outside that, I’d keep off the treadmill if I were you, unless you are willing to put up with a rightly angry neighbour. by Glesganed (Tue 21st Dec 2021 10:46pm)

If you have evidence of who dumped the stuff you can have them pay for removal, but you really need video evidence as the council will not take action on anything less. If you have no evidence, all property owners will share the cost of removal. The last time this happened at my property the factor, hacking and paterson, arranged for the removal. The thing us though, the "company" appointed by the factor charged less for removal than the cost of legally dumping the refuse at a council recycling centre, so I've no doubt the rubbish was fly tipped. by Glesganed (Thu 23rd Dec 2021 1:35pm)

  • Are you that blind that you cannot see sectarianism unless its wearing a Rangers top? Why bring the IRA into it? Because the person i was replying to painted them as some sort of freedom fighters, rather than the terrorist murderers they were. by Glesganed (Wed 19th Jan 2022 3:54pm)

  • You, again, are talking out of your arse. I'm not the one making it about sides, you are. Nor did i suggest that the OP was making it about sides or that they favour one side over another. If we are to have a conversation about sectarianism in our city, we have to include all colours of sectarianism and that was the point of my first post in this thread. The reason i posted a link to an article about anti-protestant sectarianism is because anti-protestant and anti-catholic sectarianism are opposite sides of the same coin. For reasons known only to you, you decided to throw up a strawman, rather than discuss the issue of sectarianism. But you do you, but I'd prefer if you didn't tell me what i think when you clearly have no clue what i think, even though I've explained it to you a number of times. by Glesganed (Wed 19th Jan 2022 4:36pm)

I sat the exams 2 weeks later and passed with ease. >Once those two conditions have been met, a driver can apply for their taxi drivers badge. This is dependent on a police disclosure check and the council processing it. This is supposed to happen within 3 months. I’ve heard anything up to a year for people. New driver license applications are turned over within 8 weeks. • If your looking for short term income, taxi driver is probably not the best idea. Before you can apply for your licence you will have to complete an SVQ at a cost of £400-£450. Once you have the svq complete the licence will cost around £170. This process, svq and licence application, will take around 10 to 12 weeks, maybe longer. Once you have the licence in place, renting a cab is the next hurdle. Private Hire cabs for rent are thin on the ground and most rental companies prefer you have experience as a cab driver. As far as income is concerned, that depends on a few factors. Number of hours worked, when you work those hours, time of year etc. If you work 40-50 hours a week on day shift your probably going to average around £550 per week once expenses are covered. If you work weekend night shift you can make considerably more but you have to be able to cope with the madness that goes along with drunken clubbers etc. by Glesganed (Thu 2nd Feb 2023 11:27am)

  • >The update to the Highway Code actually specifies a hierarchy of road users, so no, the responsibility does not lie with the individual crossing the road - it lies with the driver. • It's called defensive driving, a style of driving that all motorists should adopt. But there is a limit to what you can avoid when driving defensively. For example, its very difficult to avoid a pedestrian who isn't looking and steps right infront of your car. Pedestrians not looking when crossing the road happens to be the number one reason for pedestrian/car collision. by Glesganed (Sat 11th Feb 2023 6:22pm)
  • The single biggest cause of car/pedestrian collision is the pedestrian not looking properly before walking onto the road. https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/reported-road-casualties-great-britain-pedestrian-factsheet-2021/reported-road-casualties-great-britain-pedestrian-factsheet-2021#:~:text=nearly%20three%20in%20five%20(58,injured%20(%20KSI%20)%20casualties%20were%20male by Glesganed (Tue 14th Feb 2023 11:34am)

  • >I didn’t say wreck less. Scroll up a post or 2, you did say that. >The consequences for making a mistake should not be death. It is ludicrous that a pedestrian can be wandering around a city centre without a care in the world and make a simple mistake that leads to being splattered by a high speed two ton metal box on wheels. A driver cannot be held responsible for the reckless actions of a pedestrian. by Glesganed (Tue 14th Feb 2023 3:13pm)
  • I drive the streets of this city on a daily basis to make a living, and the number of times i have to take evasive action to avoid hitting a pedestrian that has their face buried in their phone, is alarmingly high. by Glesganed (Tue 14th Feb 2023 3:10pm)

  • >a pedestrian cannot be classed as reckless simply for making a mistake. If a pedestrian makes a mistake that leads to their serious injury or death, yes, we can call them reckless. Others may suffer injury or trauma because of the reckless actions of a pedestrian, it should not be treated lightly. by Glesganed (Tue 14th Feb 2023 7:16pm)
  • No one is arguing that the data supplied by the department of transport is empirical, the document itself says as much, but it seems to be the only data that is currently available. Until there is a better system in place, no one can claim that motorists cause the vast majority of pedestrian RTAs. by Glesganed (Tue 14th Feb 2023 10:02pm)
  • Your not wrong, the document itself advises scepticism in the paragraphs above the data concerning pedestrian RTAs. Until better data is available, the picture will remain blurred, but from the picture that we have there is little evidence to support the idea that the motorist is at fault for the majority of pedestrian RTAs. by Glesganed (Tue 14th Feb 2023 10:25pm)
  • You look to be using feels over figures. The data we have suggests that in most instances of pedestrian RTAs, the pedestrian is at fault. >How dare you justify excessive speed driving and victim blaming. Can you point to were i justified excessive speed and resorted to victim blaming? by Glesganed (Wed 15th Feb 2023 1:18pm)
  • The changes to the highway code does not absolve anyone of personal responsibility. The fact remains that the majority of pedestrian RTAs are caused by the pedestrian. Your feels are irrelevant. by Glesganed (Thu 16th Feb 2023 8:45am)
  • >confirms the increased personal responsibility that car drivers have on our roads The changes to the highway code determine the hierarchy of road users, it dosen't absolve or increase the responsibility of those road users. I drive the streets of our city to make a living on an almost daily basis, and the number of times i have to use evasive manoeuvres to avoid a pedestrian, that has their face buried in their phone, is alarming. From the data that is available, it is clear that the pedestrian is at fault in the majority of pedestrian RTAs and your feels don't change that fact. by Glesganed (Thu 16th Feb 2023 9:35am)
