The highest part I managed to get to was an outside area that was mostly blocked off by other buildings. I think there was a big glass window. • Love this idea. Hopefully I can convince myself to come along. And hopefully it takes place when I'm available. A lot of people in Scotland use WhatsApp. Maybe you could ask people to join a WhatsApp group when you meet in person. It would probably be the best way to organise future events after the initial one. Or maybe you could set up a Meetup page. by JeffTheJackal (Wed 30th Jan 2019 7:29am)

  • My friends gf made us all space cake one time. We waited for it to kick but after 2 hours nothing happened and we thought they hadn't made it correctly or something. About 20 minutes later it kicked in hard. We were totally fucked. Our other sober friends then came home after playing football all energetic and sober which created a weird vibe. About 10 minutes later the girls were so freaked out they had to be taken home and I was on the floor in an uncontrollable fit of laughter that I desperately wanted to stop. Haven't had the urge to do it since. by JeffTheJackal (Mon 13th May 2019 1:52pm)

  • You could search on www.rightmove.co.uk for properties in the Merchant City to see how you feel about the rent costs. People often recommend Dennistoun as a cheaper place to live near the centre. But some people also say that rent prices in Dennistoun are going up over the years. It's worth a look. I guess you could get the train from Dennistoun too but I don't know if you need to connect or not. If you search for Dennistoun on this subreddit you'll find various threads about it including which parts to avoid. by JeffTheJackal (Thu 11th Jul 2019 2:23am)

  • Do you have kids? If you haven't left the country maybe you should go a holiday somewhere that isn't too expensive for a couple of weeks in the summer. I know that doesn't solve your problems but it might be a good thing to do to get some peace, perspective rather than going on a long traveling tour. I guess you could do a working holiday in Canada, Australia or New Zealand but I think you can't be older than 30 for the visa so not much time. I have a friend who came back with more money than he left with but he was away for 2 years and did farm work. • Amazon is good here. There are amazon lockers too if you need something sent there. Some things take longer to arrive at the moment because of covid. Kelvingrove Park is a nice place to walk in the city centre although sometimes it can be overrun with drunk teenagers. Having said that there's always decent, quiet places to sit if you get away from the big hillside in the middle. There's also the botanic gardens and kelvin walk way. Glasgow Green is a big park too although it's less interesting. The west end is the most affluent area in the centre. The Merchant City is also nice. The centre e.g. sauchiehall Street, buchanan Street, Argyle Street in the centre (there's another one in the west end) is a decent area but you're more likely to run into sketchy characters there. Like many other places there can be one street which is nice/ safe and you turn a corner to another street and it's perhaps less safe but generally speaking most places are ok. I can't remember the last time I was bothered by anyone. The southside is also supposed to be an up and coming hip place to live and visit but I haven't spent a lot of time there personally. by JeffTheJackal (Wed 24th Jun 2020 6:31pm)

  • I'd say in the early evening most places should be fine. Perhaps in the centre it could be a bit dodgy yourself mid week because there would be less people around. At the weekend it's probably fine a bit later but obviously it can get rowdy with drunk people but still safe enough until maybe 10pm if you're by yourself. But I'm a guy so I don't know how it is for women. Moving between the west end and the centre is pretty safe at Charing Cross (Woodlands Road to Sauchiehall Street or vice versa). The only difficult people I come across are homeless people/ drug addicts in the centre who might ask you for money or sometimes arguing with each other but I've not actually had any issues with anyone in a while. You can also get the subway from byres road to buchanan street. Best to make sure you take the correct line though because if you go in the wrong direction you'll take the long way round through lots of other stops and increase your chances of bumping into sketchy characters. by JeffTheJackal (Mon 4th Oct 2021 6:32am)

  • I think there are some genuine ones but there's definitely dodgy ones. I went into one before I had read anything on here about them. I was the only customer and there was basically no effort to sell me anything. The girl behind the counter seemed totally unprepared for customers. It was just a weird place in general. It was a while ago so I can't remember the specifics but I came to the suspicion that it was a money laundering place on my own from that one visit. • Its not uncommon for people here to drink at the age of 15/16. As for TRNSMT, its the most underage drinking/ drug using festival I've ever seen. T in the park and Rockness used to be more normal in terms of age range and maturity. T in the Park got more chaotic in the later years. A festival I would maybe suggest is the Kelburn Garden Party (3 nights) or one of the Psychedelic events they have (1 night). They don't attract such a mental or young crowd but there's still a lot of partying that goes on. They also don't have big name acts. by JeffTheJackal (Mon 11th Jul 2022 1:25pm)

  • I did it a few times around that age for the same reasons. I quite liked going to Subclub. Its not too difficult to blend in once you're in. I found its better to get there around midnight when its a bit more busy. Sometimes its too quiet between 11pm and midnight. There should be older people at the weekend rather than mid-week. I once saw two guys about 50 with grey hair on the dancefloor with the typical involuntary jaw movements. Definitely seen other people around 30 or 30+ at times. Obviously it varies though and you're bound to be around a fair amount of younger folk too. 26 is fine though. I'd make the most of it while you can. Obviously being yourself isn't ideal but I wouldn't let it stop you. You can always get a taxi home if you're worried about getting home yourself. by JeffTheJackal (Sun 9th Oct 2022 8:26pm)

There isn't really much in Anniesland though except some decent supermarkets, a small high street, a couple of bars and a gym. The train is pretty fast for getting into the centre (about 12 minutes). The bus takes about 40 minutes to get the the centre because of traffic, bus stops and lights. You can walk to the west end in about 30 minutes. by JeffTheJackal (Mon 24th Oct 2022 8:18am)

  • I used to live there about 10 years ago with 2 other flatmates. Most of the time we lived there it was fine. Sometimes you could hear parties going on but we didn't mind because we had our own parties sometimes (although I don't think they went on too late). We had heard there were drug dealers and pimps in the building but I didn't notice at the time. My flatmate suspected the people across the corridor from us were pimps with prostitutes and male clients coming and going which looking back was probably true. One time this big guy who was really drunk broke through the security door and tried to get into my flat while asking for someone who didn't live there. It was pretty scary but he eventually left. Other than that it was alright living there. I did feel a bit uneasy walking through the corridors by myself. by JeffTheJackal (Sun 11th Dec 2022 12:40am)
