  • So in 6 hours you managed to: • Go to 16 pubs (1 for each station then your first one again). • Wait for the subway to arrive (1-8 minutes each time). • Ride to the next stop, takes 2 minutes each time. • Walk to and from the subway station to the pub. • Wait to get served. • Have a pint in each (or equivalent measure). • Pick up scran on the way cos you'll have gone 6 hours without eating while sluggin pints. • All the time making sure no-one was straggling or anything and no havin' a problem with the bouncers (not easy when you're 12+ pints in) and not whiteyin everywhere. Yeah, sorry mate but I smell shite. by SeemsImmaculate (Sat 23rd Feb 2019 8:37am)
  • 18:00-23:40, even over just 14 pubs (ignoring the last pub and the repeat pub) is only 24 minutes per pub (including travel time to the next pub). And I said "*or equivalent measure"* cos that many pints would wreak havoc on your gut. It makes sense to move to spirits later in the night. I mean, kudos to you if you can actually do it in 6 hrs. I'm just saying it's extremely unlikely. by SeemsImmaculate (Sat 23rd Feb 2019 9:45am)

  • >Its moronic yes, but that's tribal voters for you. Eh no. Labour voters are less likely to vote SNP because the SNP are a pro-austerity, pro-capitalist party (despite their rhetoric to the contrary). Under them we have seen tax breaks to the oil industry while the green belt is sold off to luxury property developers and local government is under-resourced\*. Labour-voters who are pro-remain have mostly (temporarily) lent their support to the Scottish Greens, \*(Source: SPICE report entitled "Local Government Finance: Facts and Figures 2013/14 to 2018/19" - this is a Scottish government document so you can't claim it to be biased AGAINST the government...) by SeemsImmaculate (Mon 27th May 2019 12:55pm)
  • You did not read my source. The source talks about the PERCENTAGE of the total Scottish Government Budget that has been allocated to councils. I am aware of Whitehall's reduction of the SG's budget. But it is a question of how the SNP then choose to allocate percentages of that budget. by SeemsImmaculate (Mon 27th May 2019 3:50pm)

  • Love him or hate him, he changed stand-up comedy. He was the first stand-up comedian who could sell out an arena-sized venue (like the SECC or the Hydro). Before him stand-up was limited to pubs, comedy clubs and (for the very successful) theatres. He was the first "RockStar" stand-up. He paved the way (for better or worse) for all those massive big-name comedians to similarly sell out large venues. by SeemsImmaculate (Fri 9th Aug 2019 9:35am)

  • I'm 100% doing this. If everyone subbed to r/glasgow paid £5 we would be able to cover a Christmas dinner for the \~31,000 homeless people in Glasgow. However, it is important to remember that homeless people receive quite a lot of "one-off" charity over the festive period. Then, in the cold months of January and February, people tend to be less generous. It's important to make sure your generosity is spread over all of winter, no matter how much or little you can spare to give. by SeemsImmaculate (Thu 10th Dec 2020 1:04pm)
  • Likewise. by SeemsImmaculate (Thu 10th Dec 2020 1:17pm)
  • I just mean that loadsa people give a lot to charititable over Christmas, and then can't give in January when they are skint. All I'm saying is save a little for January and February. I'm mostly talking here about direct charity. Charities will use the money the extra money they get over Christmas to work towards projects throughout the winter. I'm referring more to giving to money/food/clothing directly to homeless people. by SeemsImmaculate (Thu 10th Dec 2020 1:33pm)
  • Absolutely. There is not a lack of homes in the UK. You can see this if you go to Easterhouse; rows and rows boarded up. The problem is a lack of council funding for housing programs and a lack of rent controls, combined with the avarice of property tycoons. Companies like Cala should be made to build affordable homes per luxury home they build. We also need to end the war on drugs, and start treating addiction as a disease and not a crime. But that's been discussed enough on this sub. by SeemsImmaculate (Thu 10th Dec 2020 2:33pm)

  • Bingo. I love hiking, and will quite happily do a Munro, but too many of my pals are obsessed with *only* doing Munros. "Why would you want to do the Cobbler, it's not a Munro?" - Well, cos it's a lovely walk. "Let's do this route, we can do 2 Munros in one day this way" - Okay, but this route has a nice view of the viaduct. ...and so on. It just feels like some people are more into obsessively "collecting" hills and mountains than they are enjoying the little details. It's gone so far as to now I always check which courier a company uses, and email them if it's not stated. I point blank refuse to use any shop that delivers via Hermes. Tbh, the only courier I'm generally impressed with is DHL. • A pivot to Scotland's already considerable green energy industry would help, but that's not done by giving tax breaks to oil companies. In fact, by levying additional taxes on dying North Sea oil the money can be reinvested into green projects. And of course, an independent Scotland will always have it's incredible tourist industry (which has supported other small countries) - but recent events have shown the fragility of relying on it. by SeemsImmaculate (Fri 28th May 2021 7:13pm)

  • An earth wire massively helps prevent electrocution. It does not prevent electrocution entirely. A seatbelt massively helps prevent injury from car accidents. It does not prevent injury entirely. Why do you still use earthed appliances and car seatbelts even though they don't entirely eliminate a risk? Because they massively reduce the risk. Similarly, a vaccine does not prevent spread entirely. But it does massively reduce it. by SeemsImmaculate (Fri 27th Aug 2021 1:25pm)

Things like: * *"Rustic"* * *"A fixer-upper"* * *"A handyman's dream"* * *"Has potential"* So the description isn't focusing on the positive aspects as much as you'd expect. • This is a war of information. Possibly the first in a new era of warfare, where controlling the narrative is more important (and more possible) than ever. RT are a state-controlled new outlet; a Putin propaganda machine. It always has been, and everyone knows this. Yet Salmond chose to have his show on the platform. Why? Either no other major network wanted him, so he decided that he didn't care that he was complicit in an authoritative regime. Or, alternatively, he chose them because he (in some way) supports them. Or they paid him megabucks. Either way, he went through with it of his own volition. Now, do I *actually* think we should go protest outside Salmond's gaff? Of course not. But OP was trying to make a jokey comment about how, in a war driven by information and disinformation, those who willingly peddle disinformation (or willingly help advertise sources of disinformation) are like generals in the war room. Now Salmond has, in the last few hours, suspended his show on RT. So there may be a little bit of credibility left in the guy. by SeemsImmaculate (Thu 24th Feb 2022 6:50pm)

  • The only way to take it more seriously would be to: * Build / acquire more council housing to ensure there aren't massive waiting lists for a home. * Decriminalise drug posession to encourage more addicts to come forward and enter into rehabilitation programs. * Provide more safe use spaces to keep people from taking stuff on the street. * Better fund mental health and aforementioned rehabilitation programs. Locking up addicts isn't gonna solve the problem, just delay it. Especially when prisons are rife with dealing. Prisons are also incredibly expensive to maintain. by SeemsImmaculate (Fri 18th Mar 2022 1:55pm)

  • Because they can't be bought legitimately from the publishers (only 2nd hand on ebay or whatever) I see no issues with just downloading a ROM and playing it on an emulator. PizzaBoy on Android is a stellar emulator for GBC games. by SeemsImmaculate (Mon 9th Jan 2023 6:25pm)
  • Emulators are programs / apps for playing games meant for one system on another. So for example a PS1 emulator lets you play PS1 games on something other than a PS1 (usually a phone or pc). PizzaBoy is just the name of a very good emulator someone made that lets you play GameBoy Colour games on your Android phone or tablet. It's free to download too. by SeemsImmaculate (Mon 9th Jan 2023 7:39pm)
  • Students are exempt from Council Tax because if didn't have legal exemption, but we're on low income, they would be eligible for Housing Benefit. Which most would be because loans are not taxable (it's not your money at the end of the day - this goes for any kind of loan). Students not paying Council Tax is a trade-off fir not getting Housing Benefit. by SeemsImmaculate (Thu 19th Jan 2023 9:08pm)
  • But in the long term they bring in more high tech and specialised industry. It's no coincidence that Glasgow has gone through a tech revolution in the last few years, with factories producing lasers, microsatellites, medical products etc. Plus it's not the students' fault local services are underfunded. They're just trying to get an education. Local government shouldn't have to rely mostly on council tax. It should receive greater funding from Westminster and Holyrood. by SeemsImmaculate (Thu 19th Jan 2023 10:41pm)

  • I live in a detached house (not even a new one) and I pay less than half of what you pay. I think the issue for you (from other comments etc.) seems to be insulation. If you own the place, maybe look into that. If you rent currently, maybe have a word with the landlord. Phrase it in a way where it seems like their best interests ("Oh I'm concerned about the damage the cold and damp may be doing to the property" etc.). In an ideal world this wouldn't be necessary but landlords can be pretty negligent when it comes to the wellbeing of their tenants. If your landlord won't do anything, it might be best to find a new flat. In the meantime, you can do little things like getting draught excluders or wearing a thermal base layer. Also, a cheap dehumidifier may actually save you money in the long run (a humid space is colder in the winter and hotter in the summer). Hope you get it sorted! EDIT: Also check what tariff you're on. It may be cheaper to switch to a different tariff, although they're all pretty bad right now. by SeemsImmaculate (Sat 11th Feb 2023 7:44pm)

  • Legit once saw a tourist on one of those red open-top tourbuses wearing both a rangers top and celtic top simultaneously. Dunno if he was just a fan of football in general, a fan of Glasgow in general... or just hoping that wearing both would somehow protect him (behold, the unchibbable man!). by SeemsImmaculate (Wed 1st Mar 2023 6:25pm)
  • >They blare bass-heavy music almost every day. I can 'feel' the kick of the bass drum more than I can 'hear' anything resembling music Not to excuse your neighbours, they're being pretty inconsiderate, but this is a fundamental nature of how sound works. Bass travels further because longer waves diffract (bend) around objects. It would be the same regardless of whether they were listening to Calvin Harris, Kobosil, Johnny Cash, the Supremes or even opera (trust me you don't wanna be on the other side of an inconsiderate neighbour who's an opera fan). The main issue here is the ridiculous volume they're playing stuff at. by SeemsImmaculate (Thu 9th Mar 2023 6:13pm)

  • Cos if you don't know how much to pay and you pay too little, you get grumpy letters from the council. If you don't know how much to pay and you pay too much you can be ages getting a refund. Also, times are tough and folks need to budget for next month. If you can, this is why people should sign up for the online account, but I understand that doesn't work best for everyone. by SeemsImmaculate (Fri 17th Mar 2023 10:27am)

  • GFT is a wonderful theatre, but it has a godawful soundsystem. When I saw Psycho there, for example, I was really excited for Bernard Hermann's score (which is like a character in itself), but it sounded so flat and lifeless. So not surprised you couldn't quite hear the dialogue properly. by SeemsImmaculate (Fri 11th Aug 2023 9:57am)

  • Hermes had such a bad reputation they had to rebrand as Evri, but they didn't really change anything. I don't have problems with other couriers, but I haven't had a single Evri delivery that didn't go wrong in some way. From smashed dinner plates to a box being left on a car windshield (?) two streets away, to multiple instances of not being able to find my address (despite not calling me to check and my house being exactly where Google Maps says it is). And, as you've discovered, their website is ultra barebones and their customer support is almost nonexistent. It's got to the point now that I don't buy stuff if I see it's delivered by Evri. It's not worth the stress. by SeemsImmaculate (Fri 17th Nov 2023 1:19pm)
