Imagine being south of the border, you've had an offer accepted all ready to move and you get a call from your solicitor saying you've been gazumped by someone who's just come along and offered a fiver more. • Does head office have any policy in terms of PPE for staff? Surprised workers aren't giving visors when they're stocking shelves, or any other form of PPE except for hand sanitizer from what I can see the workers in my local farmfoods put one on when they're serving me which is pretty cool but take it off when they go back to the shelves. Apparently my local tescos (one of those metros) has a guidance limit of 90 shoppers at any one time which seems insanely busy.. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Thu 9th Jul 2020 8:18pm)

  • Working from home was a nice novelty to begin with but I'm getting a bit sick of it as time has gone by. - Miss the walk to work. I hate rolling out of bed and logging onto the laptop. - Miss my work desk and proper comfy, desk chair. Working off a drinks cabinet at the moment. - Flat is a bit small so I can't really stretch my legs by going for a walk - Getting tired of my girlfriend's patter - she talks to a lot of people so the same topics and stories keep cropping up and are wearing thin lol. - I'm also not being compensated for higher fuel bills (and miss my free snacks at work). - Sometimes my working time creeps on longer than it should. - I also have an absolute dick of a neighbour who lives in one of the floor's below, who smokes out their window, so the smoke floats up through my window. I have noticed that the workday week seems to go by quicker though so there's that. It's also easier to fit in my lunchtime jogs which is nice. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Wed 15th Jul 2020 12:46pm)

  • As others have mentioned, holding fees are illegal. In the past, agencies and landlords would retain part or all of it if you changed your mind and backed out of a tenancy. Since the rule change, they've sort of stuck around as I imagine they act as a hook to encourage you not to back out (at best) and at worst, to take advantage of those not aware of it and leave them out of pocket if they did back out. You're not obliged to pay it and I doubt they'll kick up a fuss if you challenged it. One thing I'd suggest is to check the energy performance certificate for the property. It tells you how energy efficient it is, how the property is heated, single Vs double glazing etc..etc... The advert should have an EPC for you to view, but you can also get them [here](https://www.scottishepcregister.org.uk/CustomerFacingPortal/EPCPostcodeSearch).. less energy efficient tend to mean higher fuel bills. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Sat 1st Aug 2020 4:17pm)

  • On 1.. I'd probably open one up with Starling or Monzo since they seem to be easiest, have cool apps and don't charge overseas transaction fees on card spending or atm withdrawals (tho there's a £200 limit per month for Monzo I think) For 2. Check the sidebar. There's a big guide to Glasgow post. And 3. Yes, you can drink out the kitchen cold tap. I'm sure it's fine to drink from the hot one or toilet taps in your own property, but i wouldn't chance it tbh😂. I run mine for a bit before drinking. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Sat 1st Aug 2020 9:02pm)

  • +1 against talk talk. My mum's with them. She was having issues with her internet one day and called them up for help. Instead of sorting out what was probably a straightforward issue, they ended up signing her up to a lengthy, more expensive contract - the handler probably saw an easy sale because my mum has terrible English. I'm sure it's illegal, but if I'm wrong and it isn't, it's definitely incredibly shady. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Wed 19th Aug 2020 5:46pm)

  • I'd say ignore them. When you move in on the day, find out who the leccy and gas suppliers (often the same company but not always) are to the property - there are numbers you can call for this, dead easy. Then call up that utility company, set up an account in your name and give your opening readings. Then fire your details into a comparison website like [cheap energy club on moneysavingexpert](https://clubs.moneysavingexpert.com/cheapenergyclub) and see if you can move onto a cheaper deal. You should be able to switch easily unless you sign up to a fix where there are exit fees. I'd imagine these companies get their cut by moving you on to a more expensive deal and the letting agency gets a referral fee for every successful applicant they pass on. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Thu 27th Aug 2020 1:27pm)

  • No, you can't leave for any reasons other than emergencies (without going into specifics). There are plenty other shops available that offer delivery at your disposal.. already got mines sorted for when I'm back as well (and I only have to quarantine due to transiting 😟) by WhatCanIDoUFor (Sat 12th Sep 2020 12:37pm)
  • Mate, you're asking whether you can go to a shop just because it doesn't deliver despite there clearly being other shops available. It also asks you to ask friends and or relatives and the helpline. Stop being dense. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Sat 12th Sep 2020 12:45pm)
  • Yeah, only differences that I noticed other than being much quieter were: - face coverings mandatory - hand sinitisers everywhere - pay by card in self checkouts in shops like WH Smith - boarding into my flight (KLM) was done in zones - I think Frankie and bennies (the one on theefy as soon as your pass Starbucks)was closed but Starbucks, Krispy Kreme and others were opened. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Mon 14th Sep 2020 10:49am)

  • Is the deposit protected? If yes, all the deposit protection scheme is going to care about is the request (getting carpets cleaned) and supporting evidence ( Whether you/they have before / after photos and an inventory). If not, you could remind the agent that they've failed to protect your deposit and that you can go to the courts and could be awarded 3x the deposit.. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Thu 24th Sep 2020 4:54pm)
  • If you didn't return your inventory, it usually means that you accept the condition of the property described within by default. It's up to you whether you want to challenge them about it, especially if they're quoting an extortionate fee to clean. If you've handed keys in, they're not going to just give them to you and let you go back in and clean it yourself.. Personally, if the charge is reasonable, then I would pay. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Thu 24th Sep 2020 5:06pm)

We were waiting to cross the road, when I noticed two wee lassies get into it.. ! Thankfully it did a u turn anyway and I managed to flag it down. • The website says: - When another app user tests positive, and has inputted a Test Code, the app will notify you and any others if it determines you may be at risk - You may or may not still be contacted by a contact tracer. This depends on whether you have been identified to be at risk through traditional contact tracing methods So probably wait and see if you get contacted / develop symptoms? by WhatCanIDoUFor (Wed 30th Sep 2020 12:48pm)

  • Seems like there are a few places providing this service, if you just Google it. Personally I wouldnt advise booking one via the government due to a) it being in demand, b) it's not used for the intended purposes (i.e. if you don't have symptoms) and c) if it's for work, I imagine you should be able to get that shit expensed whether you do it here or in Germany. But that's just my two cents. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Sat 24th Oct 2020 8:00pm)
  • Statement from the [po po](https://www.scotland.police.uk/what-s-happening/news/2020/october/police-scotland-statement-on-mobile-drug-consumption-van-operating-in-glasgow/) > Police Scotland has released an updated statement after reports and commentary wrongly stated a man had been arrested in relation to a mobile drug consumption van which operates in Glasgow. > Assistant Chief Constable Gary Ritchie, Partnerships, Prevention and Community Wellbeing, said: > “A 43-year-old man was charged for obstructing police officers carrying out their duties in respect of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 on Parnie Street, Glasgow on Friday, 23 October, 2020. > “He was not arrested and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course. > “Three other people were searched but no crime was established and they were also not arrested. > “Police Scotland’s drug strategy is based on principles of harm reduction and focuses on engaging with partners to ensure that those whose lives are affected by drug use receive the appropriate care from health and support services. > “A number of initiatives are ongoing throughout Scotland involving police, health, social care, drug support groups, charities and local communities. > “In Glasgow, Police Scotland leads on the Positive Outcomes Project, which aims to ensure that those living with addiction can benefit from the many services on offer. > “Police officers who come across individuals they consider would benefit from those type of interventions will assist them in accessing the relevant services. > “Where crimes are being committed police officers will intervene, however it is understood the many complex needs that individuals have, and these are highlighted when reporting crimes to the Procurator Fiscal. > "Work is ongoing under the auspices of the Drugs Death Task Force to develop a parallel referral system where police officers, in appropriate circumstances, can refer individuals who may be breaking the law, directly into these services at an earlier stage. > “We will continue to focus our enforcement activities on those individuals and groups who are intent, for their own benefit, on supplying controlled drugs into communities and to people who are already vulnerable." Seems like everyone's working together for the same common good. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Sat 24th Oct 2020 8:13pm)
  • Isn't the council a minority led administration, so they still need to work with other parties and aren't able just to dictate everything as they please? Agree some things are utter shambolic, people are getting tickets in my neighbourhood despite the permit extension, and just told to appeal it. If the wealth gap continues to widen, as many as 33% of children in the most deprived areas could be obese by 2030, she said. This is in line with the NHS report, which found that there are twice as many obese children living in "deprived areas" than in more affluent areas. The difference in rate for severe obesity is even more extreme -- it's more than four times higher for children who live in the most deprived communities. > "Combined overweight and obesity prevalence ranged from 41.5% for children living in the most deprived areas to 24.1% for children living in the least deprived areas," the report found. I quite like the cheap energy club because they have reviews. Also, I think I played about with the figures where they ask how much you think you'll be using a year.. got my direct debit to a pretty lowish amount.. it doesn't mean you pay less because you still pay what you use obviously, but it does mean I'm not paying more than I need to each month and can have it elsewhere until they come asking me for the excess. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Mon 9th Nov 2020 2:17pm)

Shite, aggro bus driver.. knowing how that road soon becomes a single lane road after the lights what with of all the parked cars, I bet they end up doing a punishment pass to overtake. That stretch of the road is an absolute nightmare for cyclists, especially when you need to wait to turn right onto Park road. • That's interesting about Sunak - I think the idea of furlough was great first time round (even though I wasn't claiming it), but then there were arguments that he left it really late to reintroduce it back to where it was.. also there were quite a lot of self employed people who were missed in the first run, who were missed again in the second time. Also, imo they should have paid people to self isolate when they had to (and not force them to live off UC / SSP, that is, if they were even allowed to claim it on the first place) Just a few off the top of my head. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Fri 11th Dec 2020 12:45pm)

If you have symptoms on or after 10 days, then you should probably get another test and/or stay inside. If you don't have symptoms, then hopefully as youre minimising contacts with others, and you're keeping distance, covered up and washing up, the potential for transmission is low. They might have re-closed a section of it, so I'd take the detour to the left where the path splits into three near the ruchhill underpass and go downhill, past Tesco, until you get to the Kelvin walkway, head left then maybe go up to the botanics via the blue bridge and up the stairs. If I hadn't done so, Im sure the rubbish would just pile up. Maybe they're waiting to collect data to pinpoint where to target frequent bin emptying but I highly doubt it. I also passed a GCC litter picker yesterday, who took a look at the glass bottles and cans that had collected on the grassy verge down near North Street, and then decided to move on without picking them up. 🤷‍♂️ by WhatCanIDoUFor (Mon 15th Mar 2021 11:19am)

  • Also got to factor in VED. £1000 is pretty typical insurance price for new drivers, some are also associated with 'boy racers' and will inflate the cost (e.g.Corsas). It'll gradually go down over the years providing you don't claim. Is that off road/private parking or on road? You may need a parking permit for the latter. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Wed 14th Apr 2021 11:28am)

Stuart McMillan distinctly remembers hearing their 4-track demo for the first time; “We were blown away!” >Composed of Orde Meikle and Stuart McMillan, Slam launched independent electronic record label Soma in 1991. It had a very DIY ethos. Along with manager Dave Clarke, they’d overseen a number of influential releases. It was Slam’s own track ‘Positive Education’ that piqued Thomas and Guy-Manuel’s interest. • "The Council’s Planning department request that developers include parking provision in any new developments as there is insufficient on-street parking provision to accommodate the number of new residential dwellings in the city. Where developers do not provide sufficient parking provision for all flats, any properties sold without allocated off-street parking are considered car free. Where no parking is included in your title deeds, your property is considered car free." Is a response I received in the past. Which is fair enough considering how Glasgow is tenement flat dense, and imagine if you had multigenerational families, with multiple cars. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Thu 30th Sep 2021 2:16pm)

There's a bit that's slightly narrow and busy with dog walkers and joggers but easily navigatable. Personally I was pure para I might be juror on some gang related shit and that the defendant’s buddies would be up at the back, memorising our faces and catch us as we leave court. • As a buyer, we found Yopa really efficient for booking viewings (none of this phone the agent who needs to phone the vendor to phone back the viewer etc..). The seller said it was easy to use and much cheaper than the rest apparently. Not sure how the sales side is though, we didn’t put an offer in etc.. My partner used Rettie. • It’s right on the doorstep of town, but imo you don’t seem to get the nuisance which that normally entails. Just small bits of asbo now and then, like any other area. Parking and driving is a pita, esp with the old style parking voucher system (they’ve been saying that they’ll replace that for years and still have not) and 1 way system (still it’s blocked on Renfrew St because of the art school still). Lots of amenities nearby (albeit lacking a big supermarket and good coffee place). Mixed demographic, loads of people wanting to maintain/improve the area. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Mon 26th Sep 2022 1:19pm)

  • Most, if not all museums are free entry. Black cabs can be incredibly fussy when it comes to card payments, so it's probably better to go with Uber (if traveling around by taxi). Cash tips are typically preferred over card ones. A restaurant may add a discretionary service charge, in which case I wouldn't tip. Small newsagents and corner shops can't add a surcharge for card payments, but they might enforce a minimum spend. The american candy shops are actually shite. There's also a load of tatty, souvenier shops that are best avoided. Terms like sidewalk, highway, trash and downtown will cause /r/glasgow redditors to foam at the mouth. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Wed 31st May 2023 10:53pm)

You’re not beholden to them, you could easily search on comparison websites if you doubt the choices put forward to you or speak to someone else if you want another opinion. Thirdly, for what it’s worth, an independent whole of market broker is still better than one from a financial institution who can only offer you stuff from their financial institution. From what I gathered, the mortgage bit didn’t actually make my guy much. I think these people get most of their income by selling insurance products or doing more complicated applications. From here, you could either continue on and then cut along Kelvin way or go along the cycle paths on elderslie street and Berkeley street then via the park. You could probably get around on the rental nextbikes, so you don’t have to worry about keeping your own personal bike safe or maintenance and lights. • I need to pick up some sports stuff and just noticed there’s a decathlon in the Tesco in silverburn, according to maps. Anyone been before? Is the stock level comparable to the main shop in Braehead? by WhatCanIDoUFor (Tue 5th Sep 2023 11:25am)
  • How does this work then? Do people just brazenly drive without insurance and park illegally as well ? Then the wee warden comes along, spots the bad parking, realise it’s uninsured and then alert the clampers? by WhatCanIDoUFor (Tue 5th Sep 2023 11:31am)
  • Good shout, thanks. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Tue 5th Sep 2023 11:36am)

  • RE cleaning. How much are you paying in factor fees? Could be worthwhile asking for a statement of services from the factor, if you didn’t receive one when you first moved in, to see what services they are meant to be providing. Also, not an expert but is this one of those ‘don’t ask don’t tell’ situations where forgetting to ask about outstanding/potential repairs means you’re absolutely on the hook? I’m thinking of roof repairs which people are usually stung by. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Wed 6th Sep 2023 9:08am)

  • Council tax is usually split into 10 instalments, where januarys payment is the last one and then it restarts in April. If you have the bill, you can work it out from that based off the dates. It doesn’t sound like your discount has been applied though. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Fri 8th Sep 2023 5:51pm)

  • I've used the QR code to report overflowing bins, but man, there is nothing more disgusting than standing next to one of the smelly fuckers and trying to point your camera app at it. They should have created a giant one so you could get it from a far. Unless I'm doing it wrong and you can actually zoom in on one of the small ones. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Mon 18th Sep 2023 2:16pm)

  • Tax and unsure straight away after picking up the keys. See if you can add someone else as a second driver to lower insurance costs (could make them the main driver but don’t do that if it isn’t going to be the case). Consider black box policies. Insurance prices are higher than usual, at the moment apparently. Use the gov.uk service to check mot history of a car. • Worthwhile checking your deposit details now, because they sure as shit won’t act that urgently when returning it to you (you can usually request it back yourself and they have a number of days to act on it). Also, they might get very petty and act in a tit for tat manner if you deny access. Wouldn’t surprise me if they chanced it and just said they didn’t see your email or whatever. by WhatCanIDoUFor (Fri 20th Oct 2023 6:48pm)
