  • Haha, I have no idea. Hopefully OP sees it though! by agateobelisk (Tue 16th Feb 2021 2:53pm)
  • Yes, I've had a similar problem with my then-GP. If I remember right, OP could find harm reduction advice on the WPATH website? by agateobelisk (Tue 16th Feb 2021 2:22pm)
  • Sorry, but its quite clear here you don't know the ins and outs of getting safe treatment on the NHS if you're transgender. Many GPs are willing to help, some don't know what to do and things such as harm reduction provides GPs with the guidelines instead of the person seeking treatment going from GP to GP, especially right now. "Cis" just means you identify with the gender you were assigned at birth, not a slur or anything like that. Piss off with your actual use of a slur though, prick. by agateobelisk (Wed 17th Feb 2021 2:02pm)
  • Haha, I'm not confused mate. You're the one who doesn't know what words mean because you haven't bothered your arse to ever think outside of your own interests. You're embarrassing yourself. by agateobelisk (Wed 17th Feb 2021 2:18pm)
  • I've seen a few like this already, bring on spring! by agateobelisk (Thu 18th Feb 2021 5:13pm)
  • Yeah! The ones I've seen were small tortoiseshell butterflies. by agateobelisk (Thu 18th Feb 2021 5:54pm)
  • I know you mean well because Glasgow can be a fairly accepting place - but I've definitely experienced a bit of homophobia when with my partner unfortunately. It happens everywhere, folk are shite. I recommend the West End to OP also, really nice place with lots of LGBT+ people! South side too, there's also a queer book shop there and a big community. by agateobelisk (Fri 19th Feb 2021 1:01pm)
  • "Enjoy being the majority" fuck off, leave them alone. Also, "wants to" & "traffic cone" joke - not original, same shit joke every time. Piss off dearest. by agateobelisk (Fri 19th Feb 2021 1:20pm)
  • That's so uncomfortable, sorry that happened to you and your wife. We too have encountered folk that stare around that area (usually older men) but other than that it's been alright. Sauchiehall Street has been fine for us as well, it's mostly the centre where it's a bit...weird sometimes. by agateobelisk (Fri 19th Feb 2021 7:17pm)
  • Feel the same - reading your comment about how you just know when to drop hands. The woman confronting you sounds terrifying, that shouldn't have happened to yous. I'm not a fan of when drunk lads pass us and someone says something that we can't quite hear, and so we walk on and be a bit more cautious. Not to mention anti-trans graffiti in broad daylight too in public places, a different type of uncomfortable, because it's carefully veiled to look like they're saying something else. I get that accepting folk want to show its fine but it isnt all great, like you say only LGBT+ people notice this. Solidarity. by agateobelisk (Fri 19th Feb 2021 8:06pm)
  • Haha that's brilliant! Usually I see other queer people and probably accidentally look like I'm staring at them to find them looking back in a similar way, it's as if we are all amazed to see one another lol by agateobelisk (Fri 19th Feb 2021 8:34pm)
  • DELETED If you are not a medical professional you should not be making arbitrary decisions. by agateobelisk (Wed 24th Feb 2021 5:07pm)
  • DELETED Please, please do not scare monger people about the vaccine. It is not helping. We are in a crisis. Please think about that. by agateobelisk (Wed 24th Feb 2021 5:21pm)
  • DELETED I don't know what will happen if you refuse. You... just don't sound qualified to be making these sort of decisions. by agateobelisk (Wed 24th Feb 2021 5:28pm)
  • I'm not trying to upset you mate, you seem really uninformed and worried. Whatever vaccine you take, you should be ok. Nobody is trying to hurt you. You should take what you're offered so you'll have a better chance of not catching the virus in the future. by agateobelisk (Wed 24th Feb 2021 5:58pm)
  • I don't know any specific therapists or services but if you need any help during the time you're searching for a therapist, you can get in touch with CALM, a charity who specialise in men's mental health: https://www.thecalmzone.net/ Take care, I hope you find a therapist who is right for you! by agateobelisk (Thu 25th Feb 2021 1:37am)
  • It's infuriating that the media will constantly focus on things like this. It's a toy. Reporting on it as a distraction from the transphobic maternity bill that was recently passed. by agateobelisk (Sat 27th Feb 2021 11:16pm)
  • Rural areas I would say have the best in Scotland (grew up in the countryside) but Glasgow tap water is very good too. Amazing when the weather is cold! by agateobelisk (Thu 4th Mar 2021 4:47pm)
  • Yep! I used to have sensitivie teeth so I'd drink it with a straw, haha by agateobelisk (Thu 4th Mar 2021 6:39pm)
  • If I were you I would definitely, when hillwalking, get that water at a pub or a hotel... don't be drinking flowing water from burns on hills, I've seen too many people who didn't grow up here make that mistake! by agateobelisk (Fri 5th Mar 2021 1:28pm)
  • Agriculture and wildlife, their er, waste, is carried by burns down hills/ mountains and through fields. Even if there is no sheep close by, flowing water can still carry parasites, etc. I think there is this idea that water in Scotland, especially water the Highlands, is crystal clear but unfortunately it's not! It needs to be filtered. Agriculture in the Highlands has also "shaped" it into how it looks now - it's the remnants of a much more diverse landscape which is quite sad. It used to be covered in dense forest. But I'm rattling on now! I just think a lot of people aren't aware of what the Highlands was. by agateobelisk (Fri 5th Mar 2021 2:17pm)
  • I wouldn't say it is 99.9%, given the study that was recently published. Appreciate you mentioning other groups of people who have been missing from the conversation though. by agateobelisk (Fri 19th Mar 2021 9:32pm)
  • DELETED I don't even know what that commenter is trying to say. I was cat called as a 15 year old by a group of grown men outside of a car wash. by agateobelisk (Fri 19th Mar 2021 9:54pm)
  • DELETED I am sorry, but what on earth are you attempting to achieve by commenting something like this? What do you consider to be "science?" Stop embarrassing yourself by trying to act smart. This is not the time or the place. by agateobelisk (Fri 19th Mar 2021 10:13pm)
  • DELETED Misinformation is wrong, yes, but haven't you considered the context of what you have decided to say something about? Perhaps these things do not get reported? Perhaps abuse spans generations of people who are too afraid to come forward? I do not know if what you're doing is in good faith, but please consider this next time you proclaim statistics are always correct. Abuse can also take many forms, cat calling can be harassment. by agateobelisk (Fri 19th Mar 2021 10:20pm)
  • What you're saying doesn't make much sense, sorry. Do you know what cat calling is and staring in a sexual way is? It is usually when someone is walking somewhere, minding their own business when another person will yell at them really inappropriately for how they look, or this could take many other forms like beeping their car horn, making sexual noises, stuff like that, at them. When it happens it doesn't feel great, it can feel humiliating or threatening and sometimes watch your back to make sure said creep isn't following you. Same with staring, you just know when someone is looking at you lustfully. I left a shop once, was around 12 with my mother, and an old man stopped and looked me up and down and I could tell with his eyes what he was doing. My mum walked over and said something to him to distract him, and then told me after he'd gone, "he done things like that to me when I was your age too". Please think before you comment something like this again, because it is quite clear you really do not know what you are talking about. by agateobelisk (Sat 20th Mar 2021 12:59pm)
  • I must have tore off more than 10 in one location recently. by agateobelisk (Sat 20th Mar 2021 1:19pm)
  • If you see these I'd encourage you to remove them, I understand if it's nerve wracking though. by agateobelisk (Sat 20th Mar 2021 1:28pm)
  • Same with calling themselves witches, and leaving slates attached to trees with plastic zippers that can be dangerous to wildlife. by agateobelisk (Sat 20th Mar 2021 1:27pm)
  • Imagine being you. by agateobelisk (Sat 20th Mar 2021 4:57pm)
  • I'm a trans man whose wonderful long term partner is another man, and I've had the whole "you must be in a heterosexual relationship" from some certain nasty people (who always want to bring up how I must have oral sex all the time as an insult), so I can sympathise. These people clearly don't have much going for them, I'm sorry you have had to deal with that shite. I've heard so many stories of butch / gnc women having a hard time because of all of this. More power to you & your wife! by agateobelisk (Sat 20th Mar 2021 6:22pm)
  • They are simply fixated on the fact that queer people are hot and good at sex. Oh jeezo, there is nothing more cringe inducing than straights who try to speak on the behalf of a group of people they aren't part of, eee. by agateobelisk (Sat 20th Mar 2021 10:24pm)
  • Oh look everyone, it's the TERF with the obvious troll comment! by agateobelisk (Sat 20th Mar 2021 11:16pm)
  • Have you tried phoning 111? Sometimes you can access treatment quickly if you contact them in comparison to GPs. I will never understand why some GPs will almost downplay someone's symptoms. I hope your girlfriend gets well soon! by agateobelisk (Fri 26th Mar 2021 12:24pm)
  • If you feel comfortable sharing, why isn't your GP referring you to a community mental health team? They absolutely should if you request it. You could possibly change GP? by agateobelisk (Sat 27th Mar 2021 9:39pm)
  • I've never heard of a GP doing that, sorry you're having a strange time with them. No worries! Have a nice night. by agateobelisk (Sun 28th Mar 2021 12:40am)
  • I've been recommended medication first before as well, but wasn't told that I must be on it before being referred to a mental health service. I've had a few GPs be a little difficult about referring me to a psychologist too until I found out I could get help myself through reaching out to a CMHT, it's a little odd. I've been in and out of mental health services since I was around 15, so in my experience I knew when I needed to see a specialist over taking medication if that makes sense and if someone doesn't want to try SSRIs, they dont have to. But I'm no professional, I just am aware medication isn't for some folk. by agateobelisk (Mon 29th Mar 2021 9:16am)
  • I have rented with KPM in the past, they are unprofessional and quite terrible. In the early stages of renting a property with them they will pressure you until you hand over the money, after this a whole load of issues happened that they failed to take responsibility of. Avoid them. by agateobelisk (Wed 7th Apr 2021 2:44pm)
  • Hello, queer Glaswegian here. The city is mostly fine. Two good areas I'd note are the west end (such as Woodlands, Kelvinside, Hyndland and others which surround the University of Glasgow) and the south side of the city. You'll find other LGBT+ people there. Naturally we are everywhere else too. I recommend the fantastic queer bookshop Category is Books (they run weekly events when things are... normal). There is also the Pink Peacock cafe! Other places are in the process of opening up, such as QuTo (cafe) and Bonjour (bar / club which has a trans flag on it's sign!). In terms of nightlife, the city centre has a collection of queer bars in Marchant City, like Katie's Bar, Speakeasy and Delcomica's and clubs are The Polo Lounge and AXM. Pride takes place in late summer, usually around June - August, and might actually take place this year (here's hoping!) When it comes to safety, I would recommend staying away from the city centre when it gets dark or if you're on a night out have some pals with you. It's where I've had the most issues as have other queer people I know. I wouldn't go into parks at night either, but that's not rocket science. During the day you should be fine. People in general are alright, but you'll know when to stay away from certain people. Hope you enjoy yourself! by agateobelisk (Sat 17th Apr 2021 1:23am)
  • Yeah, it's lovely :) by agateobelisk (Sat 17th Apr 2021 12:38pm)

  • Ah so it is two separate things? by agateobelisk (Fri 30th Apr 2021 9:44am)
  • Apparently the reason so many people are being targeted is because of a Facebook data leak in 2019, all of which has been made available free online. I think there is a website where you can check if your data has been leaked. This whole scam is called 'Flubot': https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/guidance/flubot-guidance-for-text-message-scam by agateobelisk (Fri 30th Apr 2021 9:40am)
  • I have no idea, sorry! by agateobelisk (Fri 30th Apr 2021 9:51am)
  • Interesting, I do wonder who is behind these scams. by agateobelisk (Fri 30th Apr 2021 10:13am)

  • Fantastic work! You've captured the atmosphere well. by agateobelisk (Mon 10th May 2021 11:07pm)
  • DELETED I'm not trying to start any trouble here pal - there is a difference between stopping the home office taking people away and a celebration about a football team, surely you can see the difference? I know football means a lot to folk but they don't need to do this. by agateobelisk (Sat 15th May 2021 2:14pm)
  • DELETED People who are taken by the home office are faced with horrible conditions. People in the Southside were wearing masks, I know a few, whom were all careful. Of course no crowd is 100% safe at the moment but those people detained needed help. I see very little people wearing a mask here in this photo. A lot of these guys are young, will be going back to their work on Monday, and look like they don't care about older folk there getting infected. I know this because it's happened at my dad's work last time this took place, who is only a few years away from retirement. by agateobelisk (Sat 15th May 2021 2:32pm)
  • DELETED Get lost you absolute prick. I don't know how to explain to you that you should care about other people going through an inhumane situation. by agateobelisk (Sat 15th May 2021 2:38pm)
  • DELETED I am referring to dawn raids. Also pal, you just don't know why they came to Scotland. by agateobelisk (Sat 15th May 2021 2:44pm)
  • DELETED What on earth is wrong with you? I am sorry, go away and learn some compassion instead of hiding behind an anonymous account on an internet forum. by agateobelisk (Sat 15th May 2021 2:48pm)
  • DELETED This does not mean that it is acceptable to terrify people at the crack of dawn and take them forcefully from their homes, friends, and family, and put in a van before being taken to a detention centre that have shocking conditions. by agateobelisk (Sat 15th May 2021 2:53pm)
  • DELETED As a child of a first generation immigrant, I suggest you hold your tounge and as I said, learn some empathy. by agateobelisk (Sat 15th May 2021 2:56pm)

  • Jack Wolfskin jackets are great (I remember when you couldn't get them in Scotland!), they're light and have nice lining. Perfect for weather right now, where its humid and roasting, but also ice wind and rain in the space of three hours. In autumn and winter you can layer outfits with jumpers or hoodies underneath with a scarf with one and you're sorted, like you said! by agateobelisk (Mon 17th May 2021 10:47pm)

  • That landlord's reasoning sounds like a joke. Sorry about that! Good luck finding somewhere new. by agateobelisk (Sat 5th Jun 2021 1:56pm)
  • That is bizarre. I've had a few landlords give us a long list of difficult requirements in an application, recommending we pay a service to do it for us - never something as strange as your situation though. Jeezo. by agateobelisk (Sat 5th Jun 2021 5:54pm)

  • Is laser hair removal not covered by the NHS? Some trans femme people I know went through Sandyford's GIC, you could even email them and ask for some recommendations. Alternatively, there's r/transgenderuk if you're looking to ask around. Happy Pride Month as well! by agateobelisk (Tue 15th Jun 2021 4:11pm)
  • Absolutely love this. There's almost a bit of texture to it! by agateobelisk (Wed 16th Jun 2021 12:32pm)
  • DELETED I think the way the police acted here is too far although not unpredictable - do the police not have more serious things to be doing? Not trying to make any comparison and I hope this won't be misinterpreted but I've seen slogans and graffiti across the city (such as anti-Catholic slurs, homophobic slurs, and transphobic stickers where the group who made it, their names are on the stickers) and none have promoted the police response this did. by agateobelisk (Wed 16th Jun 2021 2:10pm)
  • DELETED I saw this - was about their "no TERFs" sign if I'm right. They've definitely been getting attention from some interesting people. by agateobelisk (Wed 16th Jun 2021 3:13pm)
  • What concerns me is that the more publicity this gets, the more it'll attract people like this man. He's what, 6ft and he's out vandalising the window and could pack a punch if it escalated. by agateobelisk (Wed 16th Jun 2021 4:35pm)
  • It think it is because TERFs are quite a specific type of transphobe that are actively attempting to attack our liberation at the moment, especially in Scotland. I do get what you're saying, though. by agateobelisk (Wed 16th Jun 2021 6:39pm)
  • DELETED Fuck off, what a horrible thing to say. by agateobelisk (Thu 17th Jun 2021 12:52am)
  • DELETED My problem is with "nobody cares what the fuck you are". How dare you talk to someone, especially who is trans, like that. You also clearly have no idea how trans people can be treated in some places, including in Glasgow. You're a silly wee bastard. by agateobelisk (Thu 17th Jun 2021 10:48am)
  • DELETED Pal, see the fact you're not stopping to think about why what you said is inappropriate as fuck, once you've done that come back to me. by agateobelisk (Thu 17th Jun 2021 11:09am)

  • Blooms in Partick and Barvas & James on Queen Margaret Drive are two I can think of. Sometimes they sell ivy and monsetras at Roots & Fruits on Great Western Road, near Kelvinbridge subway. There is also a plant nursery in the south side called Apercu. These are all pretty pricey shops though, I recommend IKEA as they sell quite a nice range and they're all pretty affordable although it can be a bit of a headache to go there on the bus. In September the QMU often does wee plant sales that are nice. Tesco shops anywhere sell poorly looked after succulents that you can rescue! by agateobelisk (Wed 21st Jul 2021 12:50pm)

  • Yeah I know. Not too many options in Glasgow, wish there were better owners/spaces about so that's why I prefer Bonjour. Is Katie's owned by them? by agateobelisk (Sat 31st Jul 2021 9:59pm)
  • Definitely my favourite bar in Glasgow now, love the big trans flag and their "power to the people" sign. by agateobelisk (Sat 31st Jul 2021 10:08pm)
  • It's in Trongate and if I remember right, it opened around two or three months ago but had been in the works for what seems like a while. The interior is really artistic and there's lots of reference to queer culture, folk who go I'd say are 20+, there's no gendered bathrooms, gives off a down to earth vibe and there's drag nights. You can find the pub's social media on Instagram. by agateobelisk (Sat 31st Jul 2021 10:33pm)
  • Aw shite, I'll look into it. by agateobelisk (Sat 31st Jul 2021 10:51pm)
  • Don't worry - you're no being a dick or anything that's a fair question. I think if you're outside of the community (no idea if you are) I think there's an impression that the scene is quite small when it's actually huge, especially since Glasgow is the city in the west of Scotland a lot of LGBT people will visit as well. Bonjour seems to have done *really* well in the small time it's been open, so more bars would probably make money (Patrick Harvie actually visited too haha!) The existing gay bars and clubs are also a bit exclusionary to members of the community who aren't cis gay men, for example Polo used to be quite shite but it's getting better! by agateobelisk (Sun 1st Aug 2021 6:37am)
  • Aye - the amount of gay men that think women, especially if they are high femme, are straight is really stupid and really tells on them. Like why do they think women go to gay bars, because they're straight? 🙄 I'm a trans guy and have run into problems in Polo. Felt like I wasn't "a real man" when I was there, and then you've got that branch of cis gay men who think trans men are gross etc. by agateobelisk (Sun 1st Aug 2021 10:29am)
  • I saw the line up, it's as 2005 as ever, I feel like it'll probably go ahead. by agateobelisk (Sun 1st Aug 2021 11:49am)
  • Peach Palace in the southside is somewhere that is trans-friendly, I see a lot of queer looking hairstyles get done there and I'd love to try it out one day. Kelvin Hair in the west end is another trans friendly salon. The bookshop Category Is used to double as a "hairdressers" once or twice a week but since it's closed at the moment you could see if you could find the barber who ran it, Gabriel, online as they could be set up somewhere else in the city. Edit: just found this: http://www.findglocal.com/GB/Glasgow/756388657714795/The-Massage-Barber by agateobelisk (Wed 4th Aug 2021 6:21pm)
  • Nice! Will definitely keep an eye out next time I need a haircut! by agateobelisk (Wed 4th Aug 2021 7:16pm)
  • Christ I wish it was as simple as that! by agateobelisk (Wed 4th Aug 2021 7:59pm)
  • Not trying to argue with you here - it isn't, most of the time, unfortunately. I can tell you that myself because I'm trans. Some hairdressers can be quite uncomfortable to be in as sometimes people treat you... strangely/assume things they shouldn't. There's a reason trans friendly places exist, and have done, for a while! It's just to cut out this unnecessary fuss. by agateobelisk (Wed 4th Aug 2021 8:30pm)
  • "Segregation" - some folk really need to get a grip don't they? by agateobelisk (Wed 4th Aug 2021 9:23pm)

  • What sort of classes? by agateobelisk (Wed 4th Aug 2021 10:33pm)
  • Aw that's interesting! by agateobelisk (Thu 5th Aug 2021 10:45am)
  • They should have not included indigenous people as part of the problem - they have always lived and hunted sustainably. Commercial fishing is the problem. A poor documentary. by agateobelisk (Sat 7th Aug 2021 10:37pm)
  • Honestly, parking and leaving your bike *anywhere* in Glasgow will get it stolen. by agateobelisk (Fri 13th Aug 2021 6:10pm)
  • Following social media is your best bet - names like Category is Books, Pink Peacock, Mardigla, could help! by agateobelisk (Wed 18th Aug 2021 12:01am)
  • That is seriously ridiculous. Everyone I know who went to GSA seems to have such a terrible story about the place, I'm sorry you all had to go through this. The staff seem not so great at all. Will have a wee look at your crowdfunder! by agateobelisk (Thu 26th Aug 2021 1:23pm)
  • That's quite a rude comment there mate, if you don't know anything about the arts and employment (which you clearly don't) keep it to yourself. by agateobelisk (Thu 26th Aug 2021 1:25pm)
  • GSA isn't entirely filled with students from wealthy backgrounds, that's such a misconception. by agateobelisk (Thu 26th Aug 2021 1:45pm)
  • I agree it's lost a lot of it's magic, but in the end you don't have to be a well known or "unique" artist to be successful in your career, a background in the arts can be really useful. I know people who've become art teachers, freelancers, etc and they're all *very* talented people. I think the reputation and teaching quality is what could be blocking people from getting in because it's putting them off. by agateobelisk (Thu 26th Aug 2021 3:23pm)
  • No - more along the lines of the teaching staff aren't all that fantastic. People I know who have graduated from GSA recently have told me that. Also, look at the comment you replied to in the first place, the staff sound bored and disinterested in their job! The reputation that it's full of people with money also makes it sound inaccessible. Really do not understand why you decided to be rude to some student asking for support. GSA really needs to put in some work. by agateobelisk (Thu 26th Aug 2021 4:42pm)
  • Two places I can think of are Category Is Books (although they are closed right now) and possibly Decadent Riot in the West End. by agateobelisk (Fri 27th Aug 2021 6:00pm)
  • At Decadent Riot or Category Is? Wasn't aware either of them had a phone line! Also, is some sad arsehole downvoting everything on here haha by agateobelisk (Sat 28th Aug 2021 11:48am)
  • Aw no worries, thanks! Oh I know, hope the Pride march with the all ladies drum band next week sticks in their craw. by agateobelisk (Sat 28th Aug 2021 11:59am)
  • Always wondered what their name was! Always so fantastic every time. by agateobelisk (Sun 29th Aug 2021 12:10am)

  • There's lots of cafes to choose from but I'd say that the Waterstones Cafes on Argyle Street and Sauchiehall Street are good to work from as they're usually quiet. I've actually seen folk work from pubs, but still looks a wee bit odd! by agateobelisk (Sun 29th Aug 2021 9:58pm)
  • DELETED Mate this isn't really a nice thing to post, the person in the video could be going through a mental health crisis. by agateobelisk (Thu 9th Sep 2021 12:00am)
  • It could be drug related, it might not be. If I were you I'd delete it, someone's clearly very vulnerable. by agateobelisk (Thu 9th Sep 2021 12:14am)
  • The weather you've been experiencing is actually unusual, a few days ago Scotland recorded it's warmest September day in over 100 years. A number of years ago the weather would be foul by now. July-August tend to be our warmest months that used to only reach 25 degrees, so very alarming. You've not experienced winter yet, you'll be looking at first daylight at 8:45am and night at 4:30pm, complete with neverending rain. Hope you enjoy it though when it gets colder, there's lots of nice autumnal and winter activities to go around, especially the Christmas market. by agateobelisk (Sun 12th Sep 2021 2:24pm)
  • Yeah, mostly just wet. Glasgow sits in a strange spot as well, I'm not from Glasgow originally but a small place in the countryside, it gets much colder everywhere else but Glasgow sometimes. by agateobelisk (Sun 12th Sep 2021 8:08pm)
  • I support the strikes, but at the same time it's a complete pain for me as I have commitments on Sundays and have to take a bus, so much trouble. by agateobelisk (Wed 15th Sep 2021 10:19am)

  • If you saw which group it was, you should report it if you can. by agateobelisk (Sat 18th Sep 2021 11:20am)
  • That's really horrible of them. I really do not understand how GPs manage to mess up procedures, I've had similar experiences and in the end sent a strongly worded letter to them which I assume made them shit themselves and they actually got their act together. by agateobelisk (Fri 24th Sep 2021 11:15am)
  • DELETED People who own several cars probably took half of it. Some folk are so selfish, this "shortage" panic is literally causing accessibility problems, folk can't get to their work, etc. by agateobelisk (Sat 25th Sep 2021 11:51pm)
  • Any idea if boosters are being dispensed in the same way as the vaccine? I'm in my 20's and wondering when I'll get, probably at the end of winter if so. by agateobelisk (Sun 26th Sep 2021 12:19pm)
  • Just about everywhere will be doing takeaways at the moment. It depends what kind of food you're looking for! by agateobelisk (Sun 26th Sep 2021 12:18pm)
  • DELETED It's not too common, usually folk with no sense and too much money. They definitely exist though, some owners have been seen coming back to the same petrol station in their different cars. I know of someone who owns 5 cars and likes to rip off the customers that go to his garage. by agateobelisk (Sun 26th Sep 2021 4:11pm)
  • DELETED I've seen folk who work at petrol stations talk about it for sure. The guy I mentioned is an absolute shitebag, he's ripped off relatives of mine and he's got some of his cars in his driveway so these folk are about. by agateobelisk (Sun 26th Sep 2021 6:14pm)
  • Naw, I don't mean that. The garage owner is maybe not the best example of someone who owns a silly amount of cars, what I mean that there are people out there in general who have been seen doing this who have more than two cars. I'm assuming they are trying to stock the petrol by doing this. by agateobelisk (Sun 26th Sep 2021 7:09pm)
  • I think there is a risk of this whole situation crossing the lines in terms of misinformation, even though I dislike Pink Peacock. What has started the anger was that few hours after Sarah Everard's murderer was sentenced, Pink Peacock posted on their social media that they are now selling handcuff keys. From their (what I am assuming) perspective is that they wanted people to be aware that they could protect themselves or others from arrest. However the way they approached this was inappropriate. Given the terrifying and sad news from hours before you would have thought that with the post, they would have offered their deepest condolences to Sarah's family. Instead they captioned an image of a handcuff key which had a pink background (most of their posts on social media follow the colour theme) with some allegedly untrue legal advice, a key emoji and a "and we sell them!" on Instagram. Over the past year a lot of people have let unpleasant behaviour slide because they were excited about this café project. I think people have now had enough after what they have recently done. by agateobelisk (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 2:26pm)
  • It's getting late in the year for some edible berries now so I'd go out and pick some soon. I recently went and most were really ripe. There are bramble bushes nearly everywhere where there's greenery, lots near the River Kelvin. Managed to find some raspberry too! There's a website called [Falling Fruit](http://fallingfruit.org/) which maps out fruit trees etc on public land that I have used a few times 🫐 by agateobelisk (Mon 4th Oct 2021 10:21am)
  • The old flint mill in North Kelvinside is one place that's very accessible. Once place that I always think is really cool is the industrial looking place trains pass through when they enter Glasgow Central, would be cool to explore. by agateobelisk (Thu 14th Oct 2021 3:07am)

  • Some of the done up displays did look good I thought, were quite educational, but it sounds like when you were there they did need to do a bit of crowd control, Jeezo. • The neglect surrounding heritage in Glasgow is beginning to really anger me now. There is the depressing state of the Provand's Lordship, St Mungo's, The People's Palace's gardens, the litter problem in the Necropolis, countless listed buildings and now this. The fossil situation is stressful given how old they are! by agateobelisk (Fri 3rd Dec 2021 6:42pm)

  • Genuinely, stop with stuff like this. You don't know more than the international effort of professionals who are trying to get us out of this. That's not an insult, you are just harming yourself and potentially others around you. by agateobelisk (Sun 26th Dec 2021 3:03pm)
  • You should be thinking about what is the best course of action to protect others around you, which includes *not* attempting to spread misleading information about fear and control online. This is a dangerous thing to do - please stop it. People's lives are more important. by agateobelisk (Sun 26th Dec 2021 3:21pm)
  • "I am thinking what is the best way to protect people..." It's good that you've got something like that on your mind, but we should be following expert advice on how to keep ourselves and others safe. This advice is already available to us, and has been for months. by agateobelisk (Sun 26th Dec 2021 3:34pm)
  • It has went "nowhere" because you were looking for a opportunity to spread misinformation and argue with people about what *you* think they should be doing, or how they should be really thinking about the Omicron variant, or something like that. Again this is not an insult - instead of doing what you were trying to do here, follow reputable advice and keep yourself and others safe. by agateobelisk (Sun 26th Dec 2021 3:42pm)

  • The story behind these are a bit wild - this is anti-trans graffiti. There's an artist in the Southside who has grouped up with Scottish transphobes to create graffiti based off the Willendorf Figurine, to argue something along the lines that only "natal" women are "true women". The funny thing is, the Willendorf figurine is from the Paleolithic, so he has used modern concepts of gender on a figurine from 25,000 years ago to argue transphobic pish. The guy's social is full of weird anti-trans conspiracy theories. He also created a breathtaking rendition of it in the TERF colours on the pavement some time ago, which was removed. by agateobelisk (Wed 12th Jan 2022 7:47pm)
  • It's an acronym: T - trans E - exclusionary R - radical F - feminist. All in all, disturbed people with an obsession over trans people. by agateobelisk (Wed 12th Jan 2022 8:42pm)
  • I can't remember the name of the guy because I saw this ages ago, but if you're part of the LGBTQ Southside Facebook group there are posts about the graffiti being removed on there I think. Have you noticed new ones recently? I wonder if anyone's reported this graffiti to the council as it's so big. Aye, there is that. The good thing about the stickers is that they peel off like butter and you can snap the ribbons using your keys. They behave like a cult, in all seriousness. Mega cringe worthy. by agateobelisk (Wed 12th Jan 2022 8:40pm)
  • I think they must be hibernating haha, too cold to "fight" for their own privilege it seems! Oh, they'll be doing it to convince themselves that they are part of a legitimate movement. by agateobelisk (Wed 12th Jan 2022 8:58pm)

  • Same here, all torn off near the River Kelvin. by agateobelisk (Wed 12th Jan 2022 11:26pm)
  • Willendorf / the venus figurines have been interpreted by as being potentially connected to femininity/women/ topics of gender so I can see if this is what the expression of the graffiti intended to be at first. They are transphobic now for sure, given his social media and the taglines used (venuswontweesht from what I can remember) unfortunatley, a shame really that anybody would go down this path! by agateobelisk (Thu 13th Jan 2022 11:16am)
  • Not sure if it's gotten worse in the West End, probably has - a few years ago living there I could hear rats inside my walls at night, really startling at 3am when you'd wake up from it. by agateobelisk (Fri 14th Jan 2022 3:15am)
  • Actually noticed this too. by agateobelisk (Fri 14th Jan 2022 2:44pm)
  • I don't know if you didn't bother reading the other comments, it's clear now to me that the graffiti did not initially have these connotations, but do *now* given the artist's social media posts *specifically* about this symbol. by agateobelisk (Fri 14th Jan 2022 2:48pm)

  • Not sure if razor blades underneath stickers is an urban myth, but I'm sure at this point it's become real given how horrible some folk out there are. Always use your keys to scrape bigoted stickers off. by agateobelisk (Wed 19th Jan 2022 11:40pm)
  • Hey pal, sorry to hear that you're having a tough time. There are folk out there that can help: If you feel like you are in need of life saving support right now, please call 999 or go to your nearest A&E. If you need somebody to talk to right now, you can call [Samaritans](https://www.samaritans.org/?nation=scotland) for free on 116 123, or alternatively have a look on their website for other ways to contact them. There is also [SHOUT](https://giveusashout.org/) who you can text for free on 85258. Both these services can be used 24/7. You can also give your GP a visit and tell them what's going on, they can help. They can refer you to mental health teams across Glasgow, you can find out more information about them here: https://www.headsup.scot/services-and-support/what-support-is-there-for-you/mental-health-teams-across-glasgow-clyde/ I hope you'll be ok. I've struggled with various mental health problems myself and I can say for sure there's help out there and there's people that care about you. Stay safe. by agateobelisk (Thu 20th Jan 2022 1:16am)

  • I think folk think the unwanted decorations will magically disappear instead of contributing to the litter on the street tbh by agateobelisk (Mon 24th Jan 2022 3:49pm)
  • They usually recommend these charities to help you in times mental health services can't, for example if you're on a waiting list, not currently having treatment, if you're between appointments, etc. I agree that these charities / helplines are crisis aversion - they can de-escalate the situation, and sometimes that's what is needed to save someone's life. They've helped me a few times, and sometimes they haven't. You're right that they aren't mental health treatment, they're very separate from for example, primary care teams. I hope you're ok OP. by agateobelisk (Thu 27th Jan 2022 6:46pm)

Go and do something more positive instead of trying to police the way people are alongside pushing silly ideas, it's a waste of your time. by agateobelisk (Sun 27th Feb 2022 8:11pm)
  • You don't have to use the term if you don't want to, when it comes to using labels, it's all about what you feel comfortable with. "Queer" seems to be the go-to inclusive word at the moment, these things often change over time, are re-used or dropped. I suppose it's all about the search for the language that makes sense to people the most, another example I've noticed is the use of "transmasculine" when this definitely wasn't a common descriptor a few years ago. by agateobelisk (Sun 27th Feb 2022 8:19pm)
  • Look this is daft, just stop shoehorning unnecessary comments on a thread which has got nothing to do with your outlook. by agateobelisk (Sun 27th Feb 2022 8:46pm)
  • I wouldn't say it's controversial outlook, it's just incorrect. A very basic way to look at this is through a scenario: Let's say you were assigned female at birth, so everyone views you as a woman as you grow up. But deep inside you know you are a man, and you just want to live your life as your truth. You take steps to make this a reality and you have a better quality of life. Finally the "out" matches who you truly are, you are a man. So if we turn this around, and apply it to a trans woman, we see that they are women. Biology is not destiny or an indicator of who is "real". Science supports this. It's often that people who have a bias against transgender people will claim that we aren't "real", when they just don't understand the difference between biology and identity and how it's very inaccurate to view the world as straightforward binary system when rather it's a complex spectrum, which is all quite natural unlike what this user was trying to argue. by agateobelisk (Mon 28th Feb 2022 12:02pm)
  • Aye, someone needs to coin a term. by agateobelisk (Mon 28th Feb 2022 2:14pm)
  • I think they are supposed to be inspired by "Venus" figurines in archaeology and have been around for years. He has unfortunately attached a pretty anti-trans message to them recently however which he talks about on his social media as far as I am aware. It's a shame because they looked cool at first. by agateobelisk (Wed 2nd Mar 2022 8:03pm)
  • Aye, he covered the pavement on Victoria Road with this symbol in the anti-trans colours as well and folk had to clean it up. They're trying to give the impression that they're a bigger hate movement than they are. by agateobelisk (Wed 2nd Mar 2022 9:16pm)
  • I wouldn't recommend it, everything is damp and awful. You'd be better going to charity/second-hand shops, there's good ones in Partick. If you're really keen though, there's [Falling Fruit ](https://fallingfruit.org/) which sometimes marks spots for this in the city. I don't know when it was last updated though, but it is good for fruit picking in early autumn. by agateobelisk (Tue 8th Mar 2022 8:08pm)
  • I suppose, but we don't know their financial situation regardless. by agateobelisk (Tue 8th Mar 2022 9:10pm)
  • Would it surprise you to learn that there's working class people in the countryside, lots in fact? by agateobelisk (Tue 15th Mar 2022 2:49pm)
  • So just because he may not be Scottish he's a government spy? Get a grip. He may not be good at his busking but he's clearly just trying to make some money, that's all. by agateobelisk (Mon 21st Mar 2022 10:48pm)
  • Why are you talking about "government propaganda from over the world" then? I think he's just a busker mate, he's not been put up to anything. by agateobelisk (Mon 21st Mar 2022 10:52pm)
  • I think he must do as he's there a lot, I think I've seen change in a hat before. by agateobelisk (Tue 22nd Mar 2022 1:40pm)

  • *Of course* by agateobelisk (Sat 9th Apr 2022 12:11pm)
  • That's fucking horrible. I saw somewhere recently that one way somebody got these people to stop harassing them outside clinics was to basically dress up as a lad when they're going to their appointment. They didn't say anything to them and let them walk by. Of course folk shouldn't need to do this but I've internalised that, should it be needed. by agateobelisk (Mon 11th Apr 2022 12:20pm)
  • The state of this subreddit any time someone is looking for a LGBT+ group for anything is ridiculous. OP - try Trans Active Glasgow and Pride Outside CIC. by agateobelisk (Fri 22nd Apr 2022 5:40pm)
  • Why the fuck has this been downvoted? Christ. by agateobelisk (Fri 22nd Apr 2022 5:49pm)
  • Haha yeah no worries, I think people who aren't LGBT+ see it as some form of self-segregation or that LGBT+ people dislike folk who aren't, when it's just about shared experiences and relevant specifics more than anything else. by agateobelisk (Fri 22nd Apr 2022 5:46pm)
  • The Glasgow mural trail is one. by agateobelisk (Fri 22nd Apr 2022 6:04pm)

  • No worries mate! (I like the reference in your username by the way) by agateobelisk (Sat 23rd Apr 2022 2:24pm)
  • Haha aye, if you need a pish up a mountain and there's other hillwalkers you'd often feel a bit better if someone is keeping watch, or if someone can't bind, etc, you feel more secure in a group of people like you. The chat is also fun! by agateobelisk (Sat 23rd Apr 2022 2:23pm)
  • Always see Leo around in town, lovely guy! The person who does these videos on Tiktok looks at interesting things in Glasgow, quite a few things on there that I haven't heard about before. by agateobelisk (Sat 14th May 2022 1:58pm)
  • Now folk will have to clean this shite up, brilliant. by agateobelisk (Sat 14th May 2022 9:50pm)
  • The bars folk tend to go to are in Merchant City: Delmonicas Katie's Bar Speakeasy Bonjour The Riding Room (a bit further out - in Trongate) The Butterfly Lounge After this folk tend to go to The Polo Lounge or AXM. If you like drag, look up the events on at Slay, which is just beside AXM. The Riding Room also does cabaret some nights. For Polo in general, best nights in my opinion are Wednesdays. Pride [this year ](http://mardigla.org/) is in July. by agateobelisk (Sat 14th May 2022 10:43pm)
  • That's a really difficult thing to have seen, I'm sorry. I hope you're alright. If you or anybody else reading this needs someone to talk to remember there's always people who can help. Here's some organisations: [Samaritans,](https://www.samaritans.org/scotland/branches/glasgow/)[ Breathing Space,](https://breathingspace.scot/)[ shout,](https://giveusashout.org/) and [ Switchboard](https://switchboard.lgbt/). Stay safe out there folks. by agateobelisk (Wed 1st Jun 2022 9:25pm)
  • It might be a good idea to get the wee one to a vet considering he was being attacked, these birds can go downhill very fast unfortunately. If you can, see if you can take them to Lawrie Avian vets, especially if they're looking lethargic - give them a phone at 01236 727876. by agateobelisk (Thu 9th Jun 2022 12:25pm)

  • It was probably best to research before you booked here but ah well, what can you do, I get that you're looking forward to a new tattoo. RnR are notoriously bad - if you decide to go ahead with them, make sure you document anything to do with money on the day. by agateobelisk (Sun 31st Jul 2022 7:06pm)
  • I would eat a decent breakfast and definitely do drink something, you don't want to go in dehydrated on a warm day like today. I usually wear loose, comfy clothes for myself and so the artist can easily access the spot you're getting the tattoo. You can take a cushion if you want - your comfort isn't an inconvenience or anything, take some snacks too! by agateobelisk (Fri 5th Aug 2022 11:16am)
  • Aw that's really nice. Do you have an Etsy shop or anything? Would be cool with other flags as well! by agateobelisk (Wed 10th Aug 2022 3:25pm)
  • North Kelvinside near the old flint mill has loads that you can easily get to, but there is *plenty* in places all over Glasgow where you can't go into, usually near industrial grounds. Always does my head in, haha. by agateobelisk (Wed 24th Aug 2022 2:37pm)
  • This makes me think of when The Bristol Bar had a [tank](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/tank-outside-glasgow-pub-remembrance-22163008.amp) outside. Such poor taste. I think folk forget that people died in rat infested trenches before their 21st birthday. by agateobelisk (Fri 4th Nov 2022 12:01pm)

  • Mr Ben's, Starry Starry Night, Opal Moon, Ae Fond Kiss, City Retro, Velvet Moon, Scottish Design Exchange, shops down The Hidden Lane are some of the 'quirky' / vintage shops I can think of. Some in the Savoy Centre too. by agateobelisk (Wed 22nd Feb 2023 7:43pm)

  • I think folk find it too difficult to take a look at themselves, they'd rather be horrible - sort yourselves out. by agateobelisk (Fri 21st Apr 2023 9:40am)
  • I absolutely agree with you on this one! Wish it was a bit bigger inside but other than that it's a brilliant space. by agateobelisk (Mon 29th May 2023 10:10am)
  • Well, you've saved me a trip to the cinema to see it - was going to go this week, that sounds insufferable. by agateobelisk (Thu 22nd Jun 2023 10:22am)
  • Trans-friendly in this context, in my experience, usually means staff are appropriate and respectful towards patients in relation to them being trans. You'd be surprised how many are not sadly. Op, I have been in this situation, if I were you I'd contact them and ask if they do this type of shared care. The NHS usually doesn't but it doesn't hurt to ask. by agateobelisk (Wed 26th Jul 2023 9:21pm)
  • Similar experience, and have heard from others the same, about Relics on Dowanside Lane, one of the guys who works in it is a piece of work. by agateobelisk (Sat 16th Sep 2023 11:16am)
  • This was probably the semi-mythical space between Delmonica's and The Polo Lounge? I, too, got lost once years ago whilst pished and someone told me the buildings were connected and other folk have been like that never existed. by agateobelisk (Fri 22nd Sep 2023 7:32pm)
  • So there *is* a bit where the two connect. Thanks for confirming haha by agateobelisk (Sat 23rd Sep 2023 12:41pm)
