  • Hey - sorry it took me a while to see this. If you are up for it, we can book a court for badminton (it's £2.50) and I can reach you the basics before you go for a drop in. Badminton is pretty much 'see the birdie, hit the birdie'! by paulahniuk (Thu 10th Jan 2019 4:24pm)

  • I think they are trying to make the viewer experience dementia like the main character, sort of jumping back and forth in time and having the feeling that there are several pieces missing etc. Good series, but nothing will ever beat season 1! by paulahniuk (Tue 5th Feb 2019 12:11pm)
  • Just stay home. If you come across people that are immunosuppressed (I am, due to medication to treat arthritis) what for you is an inconvenience it could be life threating for me. And I'm vaccinated anyway! by paulahniuk (Mon 11th Feb 2019 10:17pm)

  • Zelda Breath of the Wild is just... Awesome. There's another retro looking game that's pretty cool (RPG) called Octopath Traveller, or a very beautiful, platform game from a Spanish illustrator called Gris (£14 well spent!) by paulahniuk (Mon 18th Feb 2019 11:26pm)

  • My little sis has been on the methotrexate pill for a while now and it works for her really well, but she also has iritis (I don't). I'm on Sulfasalazine but doesn't seem to be doing much to be honest. It's a shitshow of a disease, and the only way to find a drug that manages it is through trial an error. About to try CBD oil - will keep you updated if it works! And crossing my arthritic fingers for you. by paulahniuk (Tue 19th Feb 2019 10:14pm)
  • They give you a selection of what's left, so they don't have to put it in the bin. It's very good value for money in my experience. by paulahniuk (Sat 23rd Feb 2019 7:13pm)

  • I wish it was more known to local places in the West End, so far just one cafe on Great Western Road has signed up for this. It's really great! Got a few filled Tupper wares for next day lunches back in London. by paulahniuk (Sat 23rd Feb 2019 7:15pm)
  • Basically, yeah. Each place is different, some places are better than others. They estimate how much stuff would be left by the end of the day so they set (for example) 4 boxes aside, sell them during the day on the app for £3, and when you go to collect they show you what's left. I got a box with a baguette sandwich, a pot of soup & two pieces of cake from a cafe in GWR once. by paulahniuk (Sat 23rd Feb 2019 9:24pm)
  • Editing after checking the app again: a couple more stores have joined since I last used it which is awesome by paulahniuk (Sat 23rd Feb 2019 9:26pm)

  • I guess it depends on what you are looking for and what your situation is. I lived in London for many years and left because the stress and anxiety of seeing my paycheck gone after paying rent. It was quiet literally killing me. Now in Glasgow I found peace and a few people that I really, really like hanging out with. Maybe not as many people I met in London on my first year, but oh well, all those have disappeared completely from my life since I left. by paulahniuk (Wed 6th Mar 2019 5:35pm)

  • Weird. I was listening to Spotify at work today when someone was trying to play hip-hop in Arabic remotely on Chrome. This started a tug-o-war between the cunt and myself until I changed all the passwords. Customer service said they can't disclose the location of access, but I could see the album they were listening to and it was a daft guy with a gun looking through a curtain (?) by paulahniuk (Mon 11th Mar 2019 5:29pm)
  • Today I read somewhere: 'stop treating exercise like a punishment, and start seeing it as the amazing things your body can do'. Hope to remember it myself too! by paulahniuk (Wed 13th Mar 2019 8:46pm)
  • I totally agree with you. I can remember at my school back in the day they had some adults (probably council people) doing the rounds to catch students smoking and, if you got caught, you would get detention. Whilst I don't expect this happen, maybe they should organise a clean up so the kids can pick up their own shit and teach them to be humble and hard working? I just want to contact someone from the school however I doubt this would have any repercussions at all. by paulahniuk (Thu 14th Mar 2019 10:56pm)

  • Oh shit! apologies - I will get the fuck out with my bilingual brain somewhere else as I don't think I can cope with learning the subtle differences between which English words are allowed in the UK and which ones aren't. by paulahniuk (Sun 17th Mar 2019 8:10am)
  • In the West End is going to be London prices (or that is what I learned after doing a bit of research). I can vouch for The Lunatic Fringe in Bank Street. If you are low in cash, websites like Treatwell or 5pm do discounted prices for plenty of hairdressers and you can see reviews, which is always helpful. by paulahniuk (Sat 23rd Mar 2019 8:54pm)

  • Were in the same situation as you, adopted a dog through the charity Pawprints for Freedom and it's been 3 months with our beautiful rescue. Easy and safe for everyone. by paulahniuk (Fri 26th Jun 2020 1:21am)
  • The University grounds are open too. You can access through the main gate and walk through the cloisters and gardens - Hunterian museum and gallery not open yet though. Exist through the Kelvin walkway gate (there's building works being carried out but there's an exist still) and you can walk to the park through the canal by paulahniuk (Wed 5th Aug 2020 8:50am)
  • There's a very tiny, old, black gate door a the top of a set of stairs in front of the James Watt Building (South). If you go down the stairs, you end up in the Kelvin Walkway. by paulahniuk (Wed 5th Aug 2020 8:18pm)
  • I've move to Glasgow 2 years ago, decided to do something absolutely out of character and posted here to organise a group to go to a pub quiz. I met one of my best friends there whom I still hung out with. My other close friend in Glasgow I met through Bumble BFF. Somehow we both signed up at the same time, matched, and started talking about crap. We were probably very very lucky, because I never used an app like that before (or after!) by paulahniuk (Wed 5th Aug 2020 8:28pm)

  • Late to the party but really want to say this. Never noticed before as I always tend to take my waste home with me in my backpack/pockets but since I got a dog last year I realised there are not many bins in the streets, and the ones that you find, they are almost always full to the rim. I probably realised now because I often find myself walking with a poopy bag for quite some time before getting to a bin. by paulahniuk (Sun 7th Mar 2021 11:11pm)
  • Let's do this, and then drop the litter in front of the summit. Let them see it. by paulahniuk (Mon 15th Mar 2021 10:30am)
  • There was another bin down the path that was half full. Every little action helps, even at an individual level. by paulahniuk (Mon 15th Mar 2021 10:59am)
  • I think there are several factors at play - every outlet selling only take out, cafes not accepting reusable cups etc. I report all the overflowing bins I see to the council through the app as that seems to be the only way of having them emptied nowadays. by paulahniuk (Mon 15th Mar 2021 10:58am)
  • I honestly think not accepting reusable cups due to covid is a massive step back and cafes should start accepting them again... by paulahniuk (Mon 15th Mar 2021 11:03am)
  • Yes it is. There's another bin down the path next to the river. Walked there to throw the dog poopy bag. But I absolutely agree, sometimes I'm walking around with a poopy bag for quite some time. Council probably thought less bins = less time emptied them, I guess... Sigh by paulahniuk (Mon 15th Mar 2021 11:00am)
  • Also to add to your point, the council app is very straight forward and lets you report unemptied bins pretty quickly. I try to do this when walking the dog because it's very upsetting seeing this every day. by paulahniuk (Mon 15th Mar 2021 11:07am)
  • Follow up on this - I've started messaging local coffee shops to ask them to accept reusable coffee cups again, please consider doing so in your area as well. by paulahniuk (Mon 15th Mar 2021 1:21pm)
  • I keep seeing this as a reply. The council won't magically appear as soon as the bins are full, therefore we, as citizens, should make the right call and either a) walk for a few more minutes with our litter to the next available bin or b) keep it in our pockets or bags until we get home. I don't think the fault is council vs people, but mostly, being a decent human being and care for the city we all live in. *Edited because autocorrect by paulahniuk (Mon 15th Mar 2021 2:28pm)
  • But that won't happen instantly, and probably nor anytime soon knowing how little of a shit they give - it doesn't affect them as individuals financially so why bother. Hence why being more caring for the city as individuals should also be considered. I don't think is that difficult to understand. by paulahniuk (Mon 15th Mar 2021 3:55pm)
  • That's another one I saw this morning. Absolute shambles of a fucking place, honestly. by paulahniuk (Mon 15th Mar 2021 4:01pm)

  • I might be understanding this wrong but I believe is a 'digital' gathering? Like you clean an area, post & tag pictures, and everyone is cleaning their surroundings (if they wish). At least that's what I'm planning to do. by paulahniuk (Fri 26th Mar 2021 10:03am)

  • I would call Alice Rocks in Gibson street and ask all these questions. They seemed very down to Earth and friendly - I had my first cut after almost 2 years with them (after lockdown) and when I called I specifically said I have curly hair so they put me through with a person that does curly hair (unfortunately I can't remember the name!). I would give them a try. They are currently taking bookings. by paulahniuk (Fri 21st May 2021 12:38pm)

  • If you are interested, go to a skate meet up through People Skate Glasgow on Instagram. You can literally start from zero and still meet a bunch of friendly gals just by turning up. Everyone is super nice :) by paulahniuk (Fri 4th Jun 2021 1:39pm)
  • Two NHS dental surgeries around me have gone fully private now. I personally think their timing is a bit fishy, with so many people waiting to go back after a year an half of no appointments (apart from urgent care). by paulahniuk (Wed 16th Jun 2021 9:46pm)
  • I started roller skating and I've met a bunch of nice people so far. And it's only been 2 months or so! by paulahniuk (Fri 18th Jun 2021 1:20pm)
  • In my early 30s too and started roller skating (total newbie) and met very nice people. Follow @peopleskateglasgow for the meetups, or just show up at the Riverside museum and skaters tend to be helpful and friendly. Also, if you aren't sure and don't have roller skates and want to try first, you can go to the skating classes at Rollerstop on Thursdays and rent them, and stay for the disco afterwards if you feel like. If you decide to do any of this, feel free to send me a message! by paulahniuk (Tue 29th Jun 2021 10:38am)
  • I can't help but think this charge is just going to punish poor people, as usual. Usually, people with less means have no access to private transport (and thus can't take stuff to the dump) and the lifecycle of furniture tends to be extended to the maximum. Imagine not having financial means to afford a new washing machine, but the old one breaks, and now you also have to pay to get rid of it. It's an endless cycle of poverty. by paulahniuk (Tue 29th Jun 2021 10:55am)
  • Literally just showed up at the Riverside Museum one weekend and talked to people there. Everyone is friendly and happy to share tips with newbies, there are a mix of people rollerskating and others rollerblading. by paulahniuk (Thu 1st Jul 2021 11:52pm)

  • I have been tasting sort of a 'musty' aftertaste for the last few days. It gets worse when I fill up my reusable bottle and take a swig after a bit (my bottle gets cleaned often through the day so it's not the bottle). I don't know where to find information about the reason behind it though! by paulahniuk (Fri 9th Jul 2021 11:30pm)
  • No mold in this one! I did check just in case it was the bottle, and cleaned it thoroughly anyway. I do taste the mustiness in glasses and other bottles as well, so it's definitely the water. by paulahniuk (Sat 10th Jul 2021 12:31pm)
  • I've met really nice girls through Bumble BFF (see it recommended in here) so you could give it a try! I've never used an app like that before so I felt a bit out of my comfort zone but a lot of the girls there are in the same situation. I also started roller skating (I'm still terrible at it) and met a few girls through meet ups to skate at the Riverside museum. I have a rescue dog that I walk every day, and you are welcome to join us . Send me a message and I will send you my Instagram handle if you like! by paulahniuk (Mon 19th Jul 2021 5:01pm)

  • Mine too. We have been working very hard to get him in a better mental space after the last round of fireworks, but it always seems to be for nothing as people fire them randomly. Mental that explosives are sold to the public to be honest. by paulahniuk (Fri 23rd Jul 2021 2:44pm)

  • My dog (who's a rescue that is scared of other dogs) was charged by two pugs this morning. I wrestled with the 3 dogs whilst the owners walked leasurely towards us, half-arsed calling their dogs (who did not stop charging at us). Is it then appropriate for me to kick their dogs into the Kelvin? by paulahniuk (Sat 21st Aug 2021 4:06pm)
  • Yeah to be fair it isn't the dogs fault, they didn't choose to have these twats for owners. I legit spend 30 seconds or more fighting them off so by the time they left us alone I was exhausted, angry and in shock otherwise I would have started an argument with the owners. We are both fine now thank you. by paulahniuk (Sat 21st Aug 2021 5:13pm)
  • I *think* I saw these last week when I poped in, but you can call and ask the lady to save you the trip. Note: not everything they have is on their website by paulahniuk (Fri 27th Aug 2021 6:21pm)
  • Decadent Riot, sorry should have said. If you check on Google maps it gives you the phone number. There seems to be more assholes on this sub that ever before, getting upset by the weirdest things. Fragile little things I guess! by paulahniuk (Sat 28th Aug 2021 11:52am)
  • Paired up with the antivax comments... What a shitshow. by paulahniuk (Sat 28th Aug 2021 12:01pm)
  • Wondering what's going on in this sub lately. It seems like literally anything that's not considered "normal" is downvoted to fuck. Thread asking for a place to buy they/them badges and all the comments there are downvoted, which to be honest does not help the image of openness and acceptance of the city at all, quite the contrary. by paulahniuk (Sat 28th Aug 2021 12:00pm)
  • Anyone knows if the Riverside festival set up is gone from the Transport Museum? Looking to go down and skate a bit but not sure if the area is still unavailable. by paulahniuk (Tue 7th Sep 2021 1:58pm)
  • I don't think I've ever had alcoholic ginger beer on tap but I know need to, commenting on case someone answers your question by paulahniuk (Tue 7th Sep 2021 2:06pm)
  • Not sure if I'm going crazy or what but I find very bizarre that last year, this exact week, there was an average of 1 people dying of covid, whereas this year is up to 9. However I keep hearing people say that if deaths and hospitalisation numbers don't go up, we should not have restrictions again. They have already gone up before the summer is over? This could have been managed better if they didn't lift all restrictions at 75% vaccination rates in June, but hey, the tories. by paulahniuk (Fri 10th Sep 2021 6:20pm)
  • I agree, and said it before. It feels very unwelcoming and gives the impression this sub is a reflection of the kind of people that lives in Glasgow, and it's absolutely not the case. Even reading through the sidebar made me cringe a little bit - no news, no asking questions, basically don't bother making a post, it'll be deleted! Sad state of affairs. by paulahniuk (Fri 17th Sep 2021 8:10pm)
  • No recommendations from me but hope you get better soon. Having an arthritis & fibro flare up myself too and it's the worst! Hang in there pal ❤️ by paulahniuk (Tue 28th Sep 2021 12:35pm)

  • The Glasgow Caledonian university used to have a Sunday morning slot for skating indoors at the ARC sports centre but not anymore (I don't think they are open). I keep thinking it'll be cool if the University of Glasgow gym started something similar. I've asked them, but didn't get anywhere sadly. With the rain and the quality of the streets it'll be very popular in my opinion! by paulahniuk (Wed 29th Sep 2021 12:59pm)

  • Just out of curiosity, with more people working from home, has the commute Glasgow to Edinburgh eased a bit in the mornings or is it still hellish? by paulahniuk (Sat 9th Oct 2021 11:48am)
  • Cool thanks. I have to get to Edinburgh airport one weekday on the bus at rush hour, so probably best to give me a couple of hours instead of one then! by paulahniuk (Sat 9th Oct 2021 2:16pm)
  • Aa much as I love the food, I wouldn't recommend it for a date. It's too noisy so you'd have to shout all throughout! by paulahniuk (Mon 11th Oct 2021 4:49pm)
  • This happened when a taxi picked us up after my partner had heart surgery. The cunt literally picked us up at the door of the hospital, we talked about it for a bit, and when we were going to pay (we confirmed over the phone with the taxi company that they indeed accept card payments) he gave us nasty comments and looks and tried to make us go to the cash point. No thanks. by paulahniuk (Wed 13th Oct 2021 6:31pm)
  • You must have received the email communication from the University a couple of days ago asking students from overseas without accomodation to don't travel to Glasgow until (at least) COP-26 has ended, or until you secure accomodation. If you haven't, I recommend you check out the University Union website were they've put some resources together: https://www.glasgowunisrc.org/advice/accommodation/ by paulahniuk (Tue 19th Oct 2021 1:33pm)
  • To be fair, having house cats roaming around the neighborhood it's a very British thing. I'm from Spain and if you live in a city you don't usually see house cats outside the homes. First time I saw this was when I moved to the UK in my youth! by paulahniuk (Thu 21st Oct 2021 8:18am)

  • Early flight tomorrow to my home country after 2 years not visiting! Shitting bricks thinking I have to get in a bus to Edinburgh airport early during rush hour AND through COP26. How's the M8 at 7-8 am? Busier than usual? Worse? by paulahniuk (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 9:26am)
  • Getting the bus about 5 hours prior the flight for this same reason, my anxiety is THAT bad! by paulahniuk (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 11:21am)
  • I usually get there very early as well, just probably overthinking how the bus would handle it with road closures and all. I initially planned to get the train but settled on the bus from Buchanan Street because of the (called off now) strikes. Crossing fingers everything goes smoothly, but genuinely concerned about it tbh. by paulahniuk (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 12:41pm)
  • Made it to Edinburgh airport with four hours spare, barely any traffic coming this way at 8/8.30 am if anyone is wondering. Such a beautiful day as well! by paulahniuk (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 9:52am)
  • Not a complain but a genuine question: got the booster letter through and the vaccination center is all the way in Bearsden. I can get there, but genuinely curious about the elderly or people with mobility issues being asked to travel long distances to get the booster jab. What's the reasoning behind it? Seems counter productive to me. by paulahniuk (Tue 16th Nov 2021 10:19am)
  • That makes sense! I was a bit worried for other people without the means to get far away, but glad to know you can change it if that's the case. Thanks. by paulahniuk (Tue 16th Nov 2021 11:52am)
  • Got a B on my master's dissertation and I'm chuffed! Super weird academic year with all the classes being online. As a mature student I kinda dig it, but also made it more reliable on my own will power... by paulahniuk (Thu 18th Nov 2021 11:03am)

  • Sure thing. My Masters degree was in Epidemiology (so in vogue right now). My dissertation was related to gastrointestinal infections and the changes in infectious patterns in relation to animal migration. Sounds a bit boring, but it was actually very interesting if I say so myself! Lots of coding and data analysis, but well worth it. by paulahniuk (Thu 18th Nov 2021 3:39pm)
  • R seems to be the choice software for biological studies. I didn't think I was going to enjoy it as much as I did, but now that's done I'm seriously considering doing a course in bioinformatics as it seems to be on high demand. Good luck with your research, and most importantly don't let the impostor syndrome take over! by paulahniuk (Thu 18th Nov 2021 3:46pm)

  • This is a real story: I used to work as a nanny in the past, had a toddler about 2 years old sitting on his trolley in Kelvingrove eating his little snack (if I remember correctly, some sort of homemade healthy sponge his mum made him). We were walking through one of the paths when ABSOLUTELY OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE a dog run to him and stole his snack out if his hand. We were both shocked, he didn't even cry, just looked at his empty hand in astonishment. The owner fucking laughed. by paulahniuk (Fri 19th Nov 2021 10:43pm)
  • My dog is always on leash because his recall is not good enough. He was a street dog in the past so he's more independent than dogs that are brought up as puppies. I just don't trust him coming back to me if he approaches someone like you who doesn't really want to interact with him, so I don't risk it. Instead, we play catch in a 6 foot long leash in very quiet community garden where dogs are allowed, and if, for whatever reason, he starts to wander off to someone else, I can step on the leash and stop him. It really isn't that difficult to have common decency. by paulahniuk (Sat 20th Nov 2021 4:30pm)
  • I've had the same feeling as a mature student, but then you realise that having a couple of lines added to your resume could be the difference between an okay job to a job that allows you to actually save some money. Also, it might give you the edge over someone else's CV. My unsolicited advice is: don't discard the thought so quickly, it's a good way to better your current prospects, give you something to fill up your time, and meeting a new group of people. Best of luck to you! by paulahniuk (Tue 23rd Nov 2021 11:11am)

  • Absolute nightmare trying to get the vaccine passport to work. It seems to either not like my face or my foreign passport, so can't verify my identity. Called the help line to get a voice message saying to look up help online - help that tells you to call the helpline. Mint. by paulahniuk (Mon 13th Dec 2021 11:49am)
  • Vaccines have greatly reduced the severity of the infections - yes, the virus is still transmitted, but the number of people in the ICUs with severe COVID is nowhere near what would have been without vaccinations (and these are mostly unvaccinated people). So that's something. by paulahniuk (Tue 21st Dec 2021 2:56pm)
  • Surely it does, because the alternative was more people (and possibly people close to you and me) in the hospital and/or dying. I think there's a clear difference between "vaccines aren't working because I'm still in lockdown" and "vaccines are working because my friends and family aren't in the ICU". And for that, I'm grateful. by paulahniuk (Tue 21st Dec 2021 3:05pm)
  • I guess we'll never know how different our lives would have been without the vaccines, but I can assure you more deaths and devastating, life changing experiences would have come out of it. I hope someday you can see that, and although I understand the frustration and feel very pesimistic myself at the moment too, it's important to not loose perspective. by paulahniuk (Tue 21st Dec 2021 3:16pm)

  • ECOVACS Robotics DEEBOT N79S, it was under £200 at the time we got it. My friend has a branded Roomba and died twice in 6 months so I wasn't keen on spending big money on that (they are around £400/£600). So far so good! • Perhaps nothing to do with you, but I wanted to let you know I got diagnosed with Fibro a couple of years after getting the arthritis diagnosis. Worth considering as it seems these two tend to go together. For me, it started as nerve pain in arms and legs, and then I couldn't sleep for nights at a time because it felt like my nerves were on fire. The only thing that helped me was Amytriptiline before bedtime. It's absolutely fucking horrendous feeling like your nerves are burning. Horrendous. Hoping you get some answers 🤞 by paulahniuk (Thu 3rd Feb 2022 4:00pm)
  • Oh Jesus, on one side I'm super glad you got a diagnosis and treatment so early, but on another, fuck autoinmune illnesses, honestly. They are a clusterfuck that keeps on giving. Ugh. Hope the treatment is not too disrupting for you and makes you feel better! by paulahniuk (Thu 10th Feb 2022 10:30am)
  • @peopleskateglasgow on Instagram, you don't really need to do anything - just bring yourself, a pair of skates and some protection (helmet/wrist guards most importantly). You don't even need to know how to skate! by paulahniuk (Tue 15th Mar 2022 10:56pm)
  • If you have old tenement sash windows, they are VERY good at fitting through the gaps. I see them do it every spring/summer. • Finding it very hard to find a place that would do a check-up/general maintenance on my 1989's bike, all the places I've been enquiring since early March have no availability to take bookings - any recommendations in the West End much appreciated! by paulahniuk (Fri 29th Apr 2022 12:10pm)
  • Medical weed has been legal in the UK since 2018. Clinics like Sapphire give you prescription weed after you have an appointment with a medical professional. I'd recommend you check this out because it will be suited to your needs and sent to your home whenever you order. Good luck pal I hope it gets better. by paulahniuk (Thu 5th May 2022 10:09am)

  • And most definitely NOT Café Andaluz, they served a "tapa" of paella that was most definitely made some days beforehand and reheated, plus it smelled really bad, like it was off. Sent it back and they tried to charge us for it... by paulahniuk (Sat 11th Jun 2022 3:18pm)
  • It bothers me more than it should that they are called 'tapas', when in reality it's just a fancy name that allows restaurants to charge extortionate amounts for tiny dishes that are usually given for free when you order a drink in Spain. Although this is seen less and less (at least in the big cities), unfortunately. by paulahniuk (Sat 11th Jun 2022 4:20pm)
  • Oh yeah, thanks for the advice. I'm working on my rescue that is dog-reactive every single day since I adopted him. You know what set us back every single time? Dog's that are off-leashed, and cunt owners who can't get them back to them when called. Maybe these owners should be working on their recall, don't you think? by paulahniuk (Tue 21st Jun 2022 3:47pm)
  • Three things have happened to me in this city with non-leash dogs that illustrates your point: - An off-leashed dog stealing the toddler's snack from his hand. - Two off-leashed dog attacking my dog that was on the leash, me fencing these little shits off while the owner walked at a leasure pace to us. - A dog that crossed the road to get into a fight with my dog, whilst the owner continued walking on the other side of the road, calling his dog from afar. All these whilst trying really fucking hard to stop my dog from being reactive and fearful of other dogs, which is incredibly difficult when your little friendly angels are off-leashed actually ATTACKING HIM. Cunt owners. Shouldn't be allowed to have dogs. by paulahniuk (Tue 21st Jun 2022 3:55pm)
  • The dog trainer we have said "Can you imagine walking about, and suddenly a stranger comes to you and starts hugging you and talking to you very loudly? That's what it is for your dog too" and since then I don't want your dog coming to mine, ever. • Would it work if you ask for references for your dog from previous landlords and neighbors? As in, go through the whole process (viewings etc.) and when you are signing the contract, share these with the landlord? by paulahniuk (Thu 30th Jun 2022 1:18pm)
  • Genuine question because I really don't know the answer: what insurance? My flat is fully furnished by myself (apart from white goods). If the landlord has the flat insured what does it cover, and how does a pet affect it? Thank you. by paulahniuk (Thu 30th Jun 2022 1:15pm)
  • I've never heard of a dog CV, that's hilarious! Going to Google this now. Best of luck to you - not sure why you are being downvoted, I read not long ago that a new law was proposed by the Greens effectively making the banning of pets illegal for landlords but not sure if it's into effect now. Worth looking. by paulahniuk (Thu 30th Jun 2022 1:45pm)

  • What's even more crazy is that medical cannabis has been legal in the UK since 2018 and I learned about it thanks to a friend of a friend, instead of being something my rheumatologist or GP brought up. They are quite happy prescribing things like di-hydrocodeine and other strong opioids, but because you can just access cannabis treatment through an independent charity, it's not part of their approach. It's the only thing that has helped me with chronic pain from arthritis and fibro. by paulahniuk (Thu 7th Jul 2022 3:07pm)
  • I was cited, got a call the day before (or two days before, I can't recall) asking me if I was OK with my name being put on the ballot and I said yes. The man on the phone said that, if they didn't call me back to confirm I was selected, to ring the helpline at 5 pm, which I did - the recorded message said I wasn't selected (because I didn't get a call). The following day the same man called me at 10 asking me where I was and why I wasn't at the jury service, which I replied 'because I never got a call telling me I was selected?' and he angrily replied 'WELL YOU ARE DISMISSED!' And hung up. I immediately called the phone number in the letter just to make sure they understood it was not my fault I wasn't there, as I was willing and keen to do so, but they failed to notify me. Plus I mentioned this man was very rude for no reason whatsoever. All this to say, make sure everything is clear from their side, as the process is very convoluted and not clear at all. by paulahniuk (Thu 14th Jul 2022 3:13pm)
  • Oh man I'll be all over this. I follow several rollerskaters on IG and always get super jealous of the quality spaces they have to skate outdoors. There's an American woman (@dasiadoesit) that always skates in a flat covered surface that I would DIE to have access to in Glasgow. We definitely don't have a suitable space for skating in the autumn/winter/spring and it's sad! by paulahniuk (Sat 16th Jul 2022 4:01pm)
  • I'm from Spain, where garbage bins and waste disposal in public areas is collected at night. We also have (at least in my city) a designated time where the rubbish from the flats can go in the communal bin, also usually when the Sun is down. This way it doesn't sit thought rotting in the Sun the following day. Why is this not implement during the summer in the UK? by paulahniuk (Tue 19th Jul 2022 12:07pm)
  • I understand that, my comment was related to the one I was responding to - if it's a safety measure, we were well aware of the heat wave coming and the whole of the UK declared it a national emergency. I don't think it would be outlandish to plan garbage collection in advance but it's GCC so I guess we just expect bare minimum. by paulahniuk (Tue 19th Jul 2022 1:05pm)

If you want to hang out after work you just have either pubs or a chain coffee shop. I know there are a few odd cafes open after 4pm but these are exceptions. I guess it's probably tied with bill prices and licensing but still weird to me! by paulahniuk (Sat 10th Jun 2023 3:19pm)
