  • Sounds par the course for Cali. Studying there at the minute and the place is honestly a fucking shambles. by Fairwolf (Wed 13th Mar 2019 8:38pm)
  • Do you know what sort of hours they're hiring for? Renfield street is pretty damn close to my flat, and I've been looking for part time work to do alongside my Uni timetable, but I'm only really able to work so many hours a week, and a lot of places I've been looking at have been asking for 20+ hours by Fairwolf (Wed 6th Nov 2019 7:12pm)
  • Perfect. Doesn't seem to be much up on their careers website at the minute, and as far as I'm aware they don't take CVs in store anymore either, so should I just keep my eye on the site for the time being? by Fairwolf (Wed 6th Nov 2019 7:29pm)
  • Cheers! by Fairwolf (Wed 6th Nov 2019 7:42pm)
  • I can't think of anywhere in the city centre, but Roots & Fruits in the West End, right next to the Kelvinbridge stop, will have plenty by Fairwolf (Fri 31st Jan 2020 4:45pm)
  • There aren't any barbers or hairdressers open right now, you're probably looking at July before any are. by Fairwolf (Mon 15th Jun 2020 11:56pm)
  • Hardly. One of the single most effective things at tackling the problem would be control over drug policy. There was wide spread support to open a safe consumption room in Glasgow, and [that blocked by the UK Government](https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/glasgow-drug-consumption-rooms-mp-16470978) The SNP certainly don't get off the hook entirely, they should be doing a hell of a lot more. But lets not pretend like it's entirely their fault and the UK can wash their hands of the matter. by Fairwolf (Mon 29th Jun 2020 1:39am)
  • >This is just kicking the can down the road. That's the fucking point. The measures are all about reducing the case numbers to give us more time. The virus is growing exponentially, if something isn't done the numbers will grow well out of control. The whole point of the lockdown is to get the case numbers down to a point where it -is- feasible to track and trace. by Fairwolf (Wed 7th Oct 2020 4:18pm)
  • Christ alive stop griping. You're right I didn't ask for it, but I fully appreciate it, it makes the area so much more pleasant to walk down now, with less traffic on the road. by Fairwolf (Fri 23rd Oct 2020 9:08am)
  • I don't really care if it makes it harder for people to drive into the city. It's a place people live and walk, not your personal throughway. by Fairwolf (Fri 23rd Oct 2020 10:07am)
  • >Wasn’t there a stat the other day that around half of positive cases are coming from 12-24 year olds? Half as in the originators of these cases, or half as in half the diagnosed cases? [Cause if it's the latter that's definitely not true.](https://imgur.com/a/rKgmijq) by Fairwolf (Tue 17th Nov 2020 3:39pm)
  • >Bit of a pointless graphic to show I mean it was to answer the claim of "half of positive cases". Which the graph shows isn't the case. All we've got on this is data, every in this thread claiming "Oh it's all the kids, I know cause I know!" is just useless speculation without data to back it up. by Fairwolf (Tue 17th Nov 2020 4:32pm)
  • >No idea but the lack of clear guidance about what we actually need to achieve in terms of case numbers, death numbers, r number etc is making me so anxious. Thankfully Sturgeon's supposed to be publishing a roadmap sometime next week that'll set out the requirements for getting out of lockdown. by Fairwolf (Sun 21st Feb 2021 5:23pm)
  • Then you're a fucking stupid cunt aren't ya? by Fairwolf (Fri 5th Mar 2021 4:43pm)
  • >/r/scottishfootball is full of football fans, and, relative to this sub, normal people Aye, full of cunts. I hardly think it's fair blaming all Rangers fans for the situation, clearly it's the actions of a minority of arseholes that led to that damage and rioting in George Square, but the fucking cheek of some of the 'Gers fans on that subreddit is a joke. Acting like the fans had no agency and no responsibility and it's entirely the Police and Government's fault that a bunch of pissed up troglodytes had a fucking riot in the middle of the square during a pandemic. Not to mention the sheer level of victim complex on there, aye every other subreddit just hates poor people and football fans and are out to get them! Show a little fucking introspection, instead of calling out the cunts in their supporter base they just sit there and whine that they're being treated unfairly and that it was only naturally people should want to go out and celebrate the win and how it's totally not their fault in the slightest. by Fairwolf (Tue 9th Mar 2021 4:09pm)
  • >which really limits geyting out of the city. I'm not really sure it does these days. [Having a cursory glance at this map](https://chargeplacescotland.org/live-map/) there's a solid amount of charging points even up in the Highlands. by Fairwolf (Wed 14th Apr 2021 12:55pm)

  • Big in the more cycle lanes and space for pedestrians camp; but considering I live in the city centre and don't currently own a car I have my biases. by Fairwolf (Thu 13th May 2021 5:48pm)
  • Aye, I've filled it in, I didn't want the only respondents to be some of the nutters I see on here whining about cyclists at any rate. I still think about that holiday I took the Netherlands 4 years ago; dear god it was bike heaven. by Fairwolf (Thu 13th May 2021 5:54pm)
  • Well; at the very least it maybe means they'll offer more vaccines in the city like they did for Moray when they had their outbreak? Getting vaccinated faster would be nice... by Fairwolf (Fri 14th May 2021 5:57pm)
  • The Glasgow outbreak is so far concentrated in a few areas of the city, so they're just trying to get those areas vaxxed up ASAP. by Fairwolf (Mon 17th May 2021 4:04pm)
  • > but IIRC last time a supporters group organised a cleanup the following day and raised money to pay for repairs. They didn't. It was GCC doing the cleanup, a bunch of Rangers fans just claimed it was them, which was proven to be utter shite later on. by Fairwolf (Tue 25th May 2021 4:10pm)

  • Another day in the nightmare that is flat hunting right now. It falls into either landlords taking the absolute piss with pricing, or the property being let agreed about half an hour after it's posted. Grim times. by Fairwolf (Tue 28th Sep 2021 11:05am)
  • The username of the cunt greetin above by Fairwolf (Sat 2nd Oct 2021 11:32am)
  • Aye you're right honestly, probably the only exercise they get all year. Good for their health to shuffle their gelatinous masses, huffing and puffing down the road for a bit. by Fairwolf (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 9:39pm)
  • I've only ever heard four corners by Fairwolf (Wed 6th Oct 2021 10:40am)
  • The rental market's so fucked right now. Had a viewing yesterday for a 2 bed, and I was in the queue for about an hour and a half to see it, and so far it's been the only place I've even been able to secure a viewing for; lot of places are being snapped up within about an hour of them being listed. by Fairwolf (Wed 6th Oct 2021 10:46am)
  • The market is awful right now for renters, this is quite possibly the worst I've ever experienced, so I can sympathise with the OP a lot. I've so far in my few weeks of viewing managed to get a grand total of one viewing, and at that viewing I was with about 30 other folk and had to queue up to see the place (My luck putting me at the end of the queue). And anything that isn't instantly snapped up has landlords taking the absolute piss with pricing. I'm hoping it gets better a bit later in the year, but right now it's frankly impossible to get anywhere unless you're extremely lucking or willing to pay 1.7k for a 2 bed. by Fairwolf (Wed 6th Oct 2021 8:52pm)
  • It's fucking incredible how greedy some of them are getting. I saw a pretty bog standard west end student rental flat in the west end with your typical ikea furniture; and the landlord was trying to fob it off for £600 a day for the duration of COP26. Absolutely mental. by Fairwolf (Thu 7th Oct 2021 11:09pm)
  • rightmove and zoopla are probably the best ones for property agents. Openrent is decent enough for looking for private landlords, along with gumtree. Be warned though, the rental market is beyond fucked atm, and you're competing with a lot of people for a limited amount of property, so you might seriously struggle to get what you're looking for until things calm down. by Fairwolf (Fri 8th Oct 2021 7:51pm)
  • Hard to say honestly. -Hopefully- it will have calmed down by then what with COP26 being over and most students having secured flats, but it's always hard to tell. by Fairwolf (Fri 8th Oct 2021 8:05pm)
  • She's also a massive fucking TERF. "Clever" doesn't factor into anything about her, brain like a leather handbag. by Fairwolf (Sun 10th Oct 2021 11:19am)
  • "Educated" is such a meaningless term. Trump has a degree from the University of Pennsylvania and Boris has a degree from the University of Oxford; both prestigious institutions and yet they're both buffoonish morons. Lamont has done nothing of note that would make me ignore her frankly bigoted views. The fact that the only thing you're capable of doing is hurling insults clearly indicates to me that you can't think of any reason why anyone should vote for her either. by Fairwolf (Sun 10th Oct 2021 2:37pm)
  • It still amazes me that the M8 was actually built the way it was. Such a completely moronic decision, along with half the other choices made regarding Glasgow in the 60s. by Fairwolf (Fri 15th Oct 2021 12:57pm)
  • Supporting them and wishing them the best on getting their wages, but fuck me it's going to make my life a nightmare. by Fairwolf (Fri 15th Oct 2021 4:32pm)
  • >Not sure I really accept this. I do. Experiencing living in the city centre and trying to walk about it is proof enough. Some streets are fine, but others are a fucking nightmare; the junctions between Cathedral Street & North Hanover Street and St Vincent Street & Renfield Street are particularly hellish. Going through multiple light cycles for cars before you're able to cross, and the traffic's generally so heavy that you can't even safely nip across at any point unless it's really late at night. I've lived in Aberdeen, Dundee and Glasgow; and of the three Glasgow is by far the worst to walk around. by Fairwolf (Wed 20th Oct 2021 6:17pm)
  • Such a worthless statement. If I can cross the main centre road in Aberdeen, Union Street, which every bus goes through, and is the main spine road between the East and West parts of the city, in far less time than it takes me to cross a relatively minor road in Cathedral Street, you know your city is just fucked when it comes to traffic management. Furthermore, I can get across the fucking Kingsway, a bypass road, in faster time than it takes me to cross that Cathedral street junction. by Fairwolf (Wed 20th Oct 2021 7:32pm)
  • Why would crossing a multi-lane motorway be obviously quicker than crossing a semi-busy two lane junction in an off-road of the city as a pedestrian? by Fairwolf (Wed 20th Oct 2021 8:52pm)
  • Aye I'm having a right laugh at the comments above. The SNP have only been in control of the city council since 2017, and Glasgow's been having issues fucking long before then. by Fairwolf (Thu 21st Oct 2021 10:28pm)
  • >Go get yourself a licence and a car and fuck off Nah, how about we just start banning cars from dense urban areas and you can start shifting some of that immense lard off your frame. by Fairwolf (Fri 5th Nov 2021 10:01pm)

  • Look up student societies for your University, and hopefully there'll be something there that interests you. Idk the specifics regarding your Uni, but I know at least a few Caley / Strathclyde societies are still meeting in person even if the Universities themselves are mostly online. by Fairwolf (Wed 10th Nov 2021 3:57pm)
  • I mean that shit is only necessary because of cars. Instead of investing in testing and mandating shit they should just spend the money on separated cycle paths instead, then it'll be a non-issue. by Fairwolf (Thu 11th Nov 2021 11:05am)
  • I get somewhat fed up of the "Oh but how will shops survive without cars!" iirc they did a study on Byers road regarding them removing car access and parking in the area because shop workers were worried it would kill their businesses; and it turned out that only about 10% of their customers drove in to shop, the vast majority either took public transport or walked. by Fairwolf (Fri 12th Nov 2021 4:09pm)
  • Fucking livid rn. Uni released the exam timetable a couple weeks back, telling us our exams would all be online, so I booked my flights accordingly; only to just be told this week that apparently Uni management aren't happy that the exams are online, so they want us back on campus instead doing them. Except they aren't written exams, no, that isn't Covid safe. We're still doing the exam online, we just have to do it online from the campus computers. Literally utterly pointless. by Fairwolf (Mon 15th Nov 2021 11:22am)
  • I shall be, but I fully expect the Uni to ignore us and plow on ahead regardless. Apparently our lecturers told them they wanted the exams online and the Uni management ignored them and just did what they wanted anyway. by Fairwolf (Mon 15th Nov 2021 2:51pm)
  • I was aye, had rotten luck for the two months I was searching an ended up having to just go back home. Thankfully I'm able to do my first semester to uni entirely from home, and I've got a place secured in January in Glasgow, but it was a fucking nightmare and I got very lucky to get this place. by Fairwolf (Tue 16th Nov 2021 5:06pm)
  • Getting a violin for Christmas and I was looking to get some trad fiddle lessons as a complete beginner, anyone got any recommendations for teachers, preferably around the City Centre / West End? by Fairwolf (Wed 17th Nov 2021 1:16pm)
  • >Nah mate, Nicola Sturgeon had some casual meetings about maybe getting some potential green energy deals with unnamed companies at some point in the future. As good as solid contracts and deals for an independent Scotland if you ask me /s You do realise the organisation and costing of COP26 had nothing to do with the Scottish Government right? The budget and planning for it wasn't coming out of Holyrood, it was coming out of Westminster. In fact Tory ministers are on record saying they wanted to avoid the Scottish Gov having anything to do with it. by Fairwolf (Mon 22nd Nov 2021 2:25pm)
  • Uni being wanks as usual. A bunch of us submitted complaints a couple of weeks ago about the Uni suddenly changing all exams from online to in-person without any heads up to anyone and after they'd confirmed the exams would be online when they released the exam timetable. The Uni deigned to get back to us today with the response that can best be summed up as: "We aren't changing anything unless the Scottish Government forces us to. Don't mingle over Christmas and New Year, it's your fault if you get Covid before the exams, and you'll have to wait to August to do your resits if you do" Then they also lied and claimed that the guidance always said that the exams were likely to be in person, even though I've got the original PDF of the exam timetable saved which explicitly states all exams will online this semester except for a few exceptions where they can't be. I'm absolutely raging at this and there's literally nothing I can do about it. by Fairwolf (Thu 25th Nov 2021 4:18pm)
  • Nah, Caley by Fairwolf (Thu 25th Nov 2021 10:11pm)
  • They're about as useful as a chocolate teapot. Our class reps tried fighting the good fight, and our lecturers were backing us up, but the Uni admin basically didn't give a shit. Essentially told us that they'll only change it if the Scottish Government guidelines change, so about the only thing I can think of doing there is bitching to my MSP about the Uni's pushing this nonsense on us in the middle of the pandemic with no recourse if you catch covid beyond "lol resit in august idk" by Fairwolf (Fri 26th Nov 2021 12:15am)

  • iirc from their big City Centre plan a while back, the idea was to turn Sauchiehall Street itself into more of a nightlife destination, and turn a lot of the surrounding streets into more housing. by Fairwolf (Fri 28th Jan 2022 12:13am)

  • >and it's never been a native language in the central belt. The only places in Scotland where Gaelic wasn't spoken were the Orkney and Shetland Isles. Gaelic was literally the main language of the entire country from about 800AD to 1200AD by Fairwolf (Mon 14th Mar 2022 10:15am)
  • >Still, the counterpoint that money is better directly spent on poverty etc. is also compelling to me, so idk. The money Gaelic gets spent on it is literally beyond insignificant. Taking that away from the language isn't going to do much to help with poverty, but it will condemn the language. The choice is pretty clear to me. by Fairwolf (Mon 14th Mar 2022 2:14pm)
  • > Considering gaelic was barely spoken in this part of Scotland it's even stranger. It was literally the majority language of the country from about 800AD until about 1200AD. Where on earth do you people get this nonsense from. by Fairwolf (Mon 14th Mar 2022 4:58pm)
  • >and it's unclear how much of the local population actually spoke it It really isn't. We absolutely know how widespread it was and how commonly spoken amongst the population it was. by Fairwolf (Mon 14th Mar 2022 8:11pm)
  • There are regions where Gaelic was common and regions where Cumbric was more common. the Clyde Valley itself was solidly Gaelic speaking, as was West Lothian, and parts of Mid Lothian and Galloway, the regions where Cumbric / Northumbrian were more common were Ayrshire, and Renfrewshire, but even they had a strong Gaelic presence, and naturally East Lothian. So really the only parts of the country that could realistically claim not to be Gaelic speaking were parts of the Lothians, and the Orkney and Shetland Isles. by Fairwolf (Mon 14th Mar 2022 8:34pm)
  • >do you seriously disagree with that? Yes, what a dumb fucking argument. Tell that the poverty stricken polyglots in Africa and Asia, who speak multiple communities languages along with the likes of French and English, all of which they learned as part of school or in their environment. Somehow shockingly as well, the poorest parts of Highland Scotland and Wales are fully capable of learning Welsh / Gaidhlig and English too, despite their "working class" background. by Fairwolf (Tue 15th Mar 2022 3:50pm)

  • Oh I did test, all the modules work individually, and run perfectly, it's just that to prevent the card I have setup in monitor mode for being interfered with, I discovered need to disable the NetworkManager and WPA_Supplicant, which rather interferes with my original idea to have my project able to run in the background whilst the user uses the internet. by Fairwolf (Fri 15th Apr 2022 1:54pm)

Similar deal with Southside, the cheap 2 beds were at least 40 minutes away, anything closer than that wasn't particularly cheap. by Fairwolf (Mon 30th May 2022 11:32am)

Closest shop asides from that is the Asda in Toryglen a good mile down a busy road and under the M74. Speaking personally, it has nothing to do with high wages because London companies love paying grads poverty wages. It's more because there's fuck all jobs in Glasgow compared to London. I'm back in my home city of Aberdeen for a bit whilst job hunting after finishing my degree, and dear fucking god the city is literally dying on it's arse. Glasgow's positively booming by comparison; I got home around midnight yesterday and just the entire city was creepily quiet, hardly anyone out drinking in the pubs. Couple that with the endless sea of vacant shops and boarded up windows on the main street, and it's a complete shitshow compared to how the city was pre-covid. by Fairwolf (Mon 8th Aug 2022 11:39am)

A music event held over a weekend that'll bring a fair few tourists into the city spending money is somehow caring less about the city than missing out on it because the city will be busy? • You're utterly incorrect. Rail links are so much better than road links, both in terms of capacity and reliability. Why do you think it is that all the major UK airports have rail links? • Are you thick? I think it's pretty easy to extrapolate that people would find being in the city centre more pleasant if there was less traffic going through it. That wasn't exactly hard to understand, there's a reason Buchanan Street is doing so well in comparison to a lot of other city centre shopping streets, turns out people don't particularly enjoy walking next to cars and inhaling fumes whilst out walking. by Fairwolf (Tue 17th Jan 2023 11:04pm)

  • >Makes no sense to me that they should demolish both shopping malls, especially when they are full of shops and people. The owners have quite rightly seen that the era of shopping centres is dead, they're just not profitable anymore as most people do their shopping online. The St Enoch's replacement is essentially going to be knocking down the entire centre and replacing it with a mix of mid-rise residential, commercial and office buildings with pedestrianised streets in-between the various buildings. by Fairwolf (Thu 30th Mar 2023 11:13am)
  • I sincerely doubt it really is always incredibly busy. I've not been in Glasgow for a few months now admittedly, but I always remember the centre being half dead most days when I passed through. >I think demolishing those two shopping malls will be one of the biggest mistakes in the city centres history. It really won't be. The city centre's got a long list of mistakes and honestly building the St Enoch's centre ranks higher than demolishing it ever will. by Fairwolf (Thu 30th Mar 2023 12:05pm)

  • I have my doubts. The real problem is cars are getting bigger and heavier and the damage done to roads is exponential to the weight of the vehicle. Roads are going to get damaged more often because of everyone's obsession with buying massive tanks to feel "safer" on the road, coupled with electric vehicles being heavier in general due to the batteries required. by Fairwolf (Sun 7th May 2023 9:38pm)

Also made me stop eating chocolate entirely for a while cause American chocolate is fucking awful, but I've fallen back into bad habits there. by Fairwolf (Wed 31st May 2023 7:49pm)

Look at Aberdeen, it went from one of the most expensive cities in the UK to one of the cheapest after the oil crash, cause companies had been building like mad out there, and a decent amount of folk left at once.
