  • I have messaged you about this. I'm a journalist and wondered if you'd be okay with potentially doing a story on this? Would also recommend getting in touch with Unite Hospitality if it's hospitality related! by LorneSausage10 (Fri 21st Aug 2020 11:40am)
  • I'm a journo and would happily take this on if you want to message me. If it's happening to you it will be happening to loads of people. by LorneSausage10 (Tue 8th Sep 2020 10:47pm)
  • Citizens Advice are gonna be inundated right now and any case you have will take ages. Join tenants union Living Rent. They are specialists in taking on cases like this and they've got form with winning this kind of thing. by LorneSausage10 (Tue 8th Sep 2020 10:52pm)
  • Really recommend getting in touch with Living Rent the tenants union. You can just search for them on Facebook and give them a message with the details and they will get back to you asap. They've got a good track record in dealing with cases like this and they will be able to negotiate a payment reduction. The Scottish Govt have all sorts for landlords but nothing for tenants it seems! by LorneSausage10 (Tue 8th Sep 2020 10:55pm)
  • Panadol which has dihydrocodeine or ask the doctor to prescribe something stronger than what they would give you over the counter. You can take ibuprofen at the same time as co-codamol but space out the doses. So take the cocodamol wait two hours then take the ibuprofen. Your local pharmacy will be able to advise you further. by LorneSausage10 (Wed 7th Oct 2020 10:48pm)
  • Go to the papers. I'm a reporter at the Glasgow Times and would take this up for you if you think it would help! by LorneSausage10 (Mon 23rd Nov 2020 9:27pm)
  • I really hope this is true. by LorneSausage10 (Mon 22nd Mar 2021 10:25pm)
  • I have these and I think basically everyone who lives in a house does. If you want a natural remedy to keep them at bay, as I've not seen as many lately, find their entry points and cover them up. Mine were getting in via a crack in my bathroom so I put the bathroom bin near there. Also douse your skirting boards in tea tree oil as they hate the smell so won't come near. by LorneSausage10 (Sun 11th Apr 2021 8:40am)
  • Would the employer not be liable for the cost if this is something they require before you start? by LorneSausage10 (Wed 14th Apr 2021 10:09am)
  • I rented what I thought was a lovely flat in Battlefield with my ex partner. Huge big living room and kitchen. We ultimately split up just a month into the lease and Fineholm compounded the distress of the situation by charging us £100 to write a new lease for just him as I moved back to my folks'. In actual reality they didn't take me off the lease as I was still getting emails from Safe deposits Scotland about the property a year later so they effectively charged us £100 for nothing. That's not it. They left him without a boiler for three months into winter because the absent landlord who lived in Canada refused to spend money on a new one. They used this huge canvas painting to cover up severe dampness in the bathroom. They ultimately tried to take cash off the deposit for a toilet seat that was broken when we moved in which I know about because of aforementioned emails. Avoid at all costs. Check out Living Rent Glasgow and gauge by how many times they've targeted a letting agency etc by LorneSausage10 (Thu 15th Apr 2021 11:37pm)
  • I don't know what they are or where they come from but they really like bathrooms. I have them too. Get some tea tree oil and put it in as many of the wee nooks and crannies as you can and that will keep them at bay. by LorneSausage10 (Tue 8th Jun 2021 2:40pm)
  • Definitely Living Rent. by LorneSausage10 (Wed 7th Jul 2021 3:35pm)
  • The protestant/loyalist side of the support can hate the IRA all they like but they always seem to conveniently forget about the atrocities committed by their friends in the UVF and the British Army as well... by LorneSausage10 (Sun 1st Aug 2021 10:36am)
  • Downvoted for stating a literal fact and pointing out the IRA haters hypocrisy. Love this sub 😂 by LorneSausage10 (Sun 1st Aug 2021 10:45am)
  • All I'm saying is that the people who make a song and dance about the IRA never seem to give the same attention to the atrocities committed by people on "their" side which is what grates a lot of people. And for the avoidance of doubt because things like this need to be said this day and age because of the state of social media discourse I think the IRA were bad too. Rangers fans who engage in that kind thing, reliving the battles from decades ago that they weren't involved in have this holier than thou attitude towards the troubles as if Loyalist paramilitaries never committed any terrorist attacks and that grates on me to be quite honest. by LorneSausage10 (Sun 1st Aug 2021 12:44pm)
  • I wouldn't worry about not paying that shower. There was loads in the news a few months ago about them not paying their workers furlough money. Something shady going on there... by LorneSausage10 (Sun 1st Aug 2021 7:59pm)

  • I went to a wedding last month where, shall we say, Covid rules weren't followed at all. Nobody got Covid from it and it was nice just to have a normal day out, not having to think about it. Because you seem incapable of reading things properly, you'll note that this is for April NEXT YEAR, when things may have improved considerably. by LorneSausage10 (Mon 16th Aug 2021 4:18pm)

  • You say that, but there used to be a pub in Paisley I went to who either, didn't put kahlua in them and just had vodka and milk or shook them in a shaker which is a big no no when it comes to white russians. by LorneSausage10 (Thu 19th Aug 2021 9:36am)

  • There is plenty of work going at the moment but as others have said, if you're not picky, you're best to approach an agency and they'll find you work no problem. Also, you might want to check your redundancy payment is right. You can check here: [https://www.acas.org.uk/your-rights-during-redundancy/redundancy-pay](https://www.acas.org.uk/your-rights-during-redundancy/redundancy-pay) It might seem like it just now but it's not all doom and gloom. There has probably never been a better time to be looking for a job. With any luck, you get something before the UC comes through. by LorneSausage10 (Mon 20th Sep 2021 5:46pm)

  • Cleansing in the grand scheme of things probably doesn't take up anywhere near the same amount of cash as education and social work budgets do but cleansing and bins are the services absolutely everyone in the city uses so it's understandable why there is more emotion about this. by LorneSausage10 (Wed 26th Jan 2022 11:12am)
  • My friend is doing his primary probation year in Glasgow at the moment and he said the council aren't filling teacher vacancies - they are just waiting for the latest probationers to come out of uni and fill vacancies that way. When they're finished their probation year there are very few jobs going in the authority despite there being a number of vacancies. They get funding from the Scottish Government for probationer places. by LorneSausage10 (Wed 26th Jan 2022 11:29am)
  • Bath Street is a bit out of the way. We're coming in from Paisley via Central and going to the O2 so wouldn't want to drag my wee maw away up to Bath Street and back by LorneSausage10 (Sun 6th Mar 2022 11:49am)

  • I've had more bother from lairy lads coming from Glasgow's commuter towns who are dressed well and probably have good jobs than I have from the "homeless junkies" in central station mate. Maybe we should ban them from Central as well. by LorneSausage10 (Fri 18th Mar 2022 10:46am)
  • I know you mean well but in my opinion, foodbanks just perpetuate the issue. Tories know that as long as foodbanks exist in society, they can keep getting away with keeping benefit levels criminally low. The Trussell Trust in particular thrives off of the fact people can't afford to feed themselves. Look at how big they have become over the last ten years. Poverty is an industry. People in a situation like this would be better off joining up to one of the community pantries in Glasgow. For £1 a year and £2.50 a go, you can get £15 or £20 worth of food that you choose yourself instead of some middle class old biddy who is probably silently judging you for your life choices handing you over a bag of tins and sending you on your way. by LorneSausage10 (Wed 6th Apr 2022 4:05pm)
  • The Mitchell Library houses the old Evening Times archives. Sometimes reading out an old paper from way back then helps folk with dementia. They've got a reporter who does nostalgia stuff as well who might be worth getting in touch with. by LorneSausage10 (Wed 11th May 2022 4:36pm)

I've also had an encounter with her before which I won't say much about because it'll give away what I do for a job and don't want people to identify me 😂 by LorneSausage10 (Fri 19th Aug 2022 11:24pm)

  • Another 900 Stan here. I did 18 months of commuting between Glasgow and Edinburgh and like many others, eventually got another job based in Edinburgh. Because I live in the west of the city, the 900 was actually quicker than going into town and getting the train for me. Saved me a shit tonne of cash as well. Another thing I did was get an open return from like... Hillington West to Inverkeithing and vice versa. When they weren't checking tickets because of covid it was a godsend because it let's you through more than once and doesn't swallow up your ticket. by LorneSausage10 (Sun 25th Sep 2022 11:31pm)
  • I had an ex boyfriend from Edinburgh who used to call me a weegie (I'm from Paisley) and it pissed me off no end. And we don't acknowledge the airport is called Glasgow Airport. We just call it the airport locally haha by LorneSausage10 (Fri 30th Sep 2022 8:23am)
  • I went to citizen M yesterday for one because I was doing some work in that lobby lounge they have. Great spot if you're needing to get something done urgently because they have free coffee and water that's meant to be for the guests, but no one checks. That being said, certainly in the ladies, the lighting is not bright so you might have an issue if it's a particularly difficult shite. I'd give Citizen M a solid 9/10 Another spot I'd recommend if you're up that way is Strathclyde Uni library, before the security entrance. It's a disabled toilet so very private and no one bothers you. You need to go up the stairs though. A solid 9/10 by LorneSausage10 (Sun 2nd Oct 2022 8:02am)
  • This is an interesting discussion. I've had loads of different jobs in my life but right now my partner and I both earn £25k each giving us a household income of £50k. My income is going up to £26.5k after a pay increase this month. I had a job a few years ago where I earned £25k and it was worth a lot more then than it is now. Once my rent and debt is paid I've not got much for saving/emergencies. It's a small price to pay after a bit of a career change two years ago and I'll work my way up the ladder quickly, I think, but £25k is usually the sort of standard "it'll be okay" wage. It's not anymore. It's getting more difficult to live off. I'm setting my sights on jobs that are at least £30k next because the extra £300 a month would make a real difference to me and my other half and actually put us in a good position for a mortgage etc. So I think £35k would be the point I stop worrying so much about going out for dinner in the second last week of the month. by LorneSausage10 (Mon 10th Oct 2022 5:27pm)

  • Instead of a foodbank, which just hand you a bag of food and send you on your way, there might be a community food pantry near you. Some You pay a small membership fee and then you can get food up to the value of £10 or £15 which you pick out yourself. by LorneSausage10 (Fri 14th Oct 2022 4:20pm)
  • If you can't approach them directly, could you try a letter putting across your feelings about it? If they say hello to you in the street then they may not be the absolute ultimate horrors and have a modicum of respect for others. With a letter, you at least don't have to identify yourself. We've had never ending bad luck with noisy neighbours but with the current ones, we ended up sending a letter because they were playing music/had their surround sound up to 100 every day while we were trying to work at home. The letter actually worked and they were really apologetic and now we don't hear much from them other than the odd weekend movie. In the meantime, keep a log of incidents, times etc and contact the council's anti social team even if they've been unhelpful in the past. If this doesn't help speak to a local Councillor or the factor of your building. Lastly you have my sympathy because I know what you are going through and it is awful. by LorneSausage10 (Mon 17th Oct 2022 9:35am)
  • A mcflurry and ice lollies. The ice cream helps with the dehydration. Usually get an irn bru as a comfort thing and a packet of cheese doritos. • We have that, it's called modern studies. By elections always have low turnouts, especially if it's to replace someone who passed away. I'd say Scotland was a pretty tuned in country politically - especially since the referendum. Turnout is usually over 60% for most elections and if people don't vote, it's pretty simplistic and reductionist it's because of ignorance over how governments work. It could be they don't want to vote for any of the parties on offer, they don't feel it makes a difference... In recent years it has become a bit more difficult to separate the SNP, Greens, Labour and the Lib Dems as they all have broadly similar views on everything with the exception of the constitution. As a result, the constitution in Scotland has become a bit of a shibboleth and if your support for Scottish independence isn't unfaltering then you're quisling number 1. Debates have become a lot more toxic too. So maybe people just don't want to get into that. by LorneSausage10 (Sat 19th Nov 2022 10:27am)
  • Glasgow Live and websites like it sum up the last 20 years of journalistic decline in the UK. When you work at one of these places it's about maximising content and writing as much as you can churn out in eight hours so that your employer can get their moneys worth. Why would a news editor let you work on a days/weeks/months long investigation off diary that could expose wrongdoing or shine a light on real issues people are facing when they could get eight articles a day out of you based on a picture of the back of Kevin Bridges' head? Numbers tell them that's what will get clicks and engagement because you get the usual "how is this news" which is, I can tell you from firsthand experience, generally ignored. An angry, frustrated click is, in their eyes, still a click. If they engage: even better. So take on the game not the player. Instead of putting links to things like this and asking how it's news, stop paying any attention to it whatsoever. Don't read it. Don't click it. Don't engage with it. When you see a good story anywhere share it, click it, read it, engage with it. If news outlets see that's what is getting hits and engagement they will do more of it. The answer is simple, they write this because people click, read and engage. If you don't like it, don't read it and get your news elsewhere. I recommend the Sunday Post (buy the actual physical newspaper) and The Ferret. by LorneSausage10 (Mon 19th Dec 2022 8:59am)
  • When I was at school (2004-2010) they were phasing out punnies with "demerits" which were less serious and you could get them for more infractions such as forgetting your PE kit or your homework. It could be cancelled out with a "merit". At the end of the term if you had too many demerits, you couldn't go to the "Good behaviour reward ceremony" which would be the entire year sitting watching a film on the projector screens in the social area or being able to gunge teachers or something daft like that. I worked in a few different primary schools from 2018-19 and punnies were unheard of. The kids would basically get detention on a Friday lunchtime where they had to write out a paragraph explaining why their behaviour was unacceptable and what they would do to make sure it didn't happen again. by LorneSausage10 (Mon 19th Dec 2022 9:42am)

  • I was in the toilet in the GoMA before getting the train home. Then went into the Oxfam bookshop when I heard a crash, bang and people screaming. Assumed one of the fairground rides had broken down or something so I raced outside and it was genuinely like a warzone with people injured. Saw one person with blood pouring out of their mouth, saw unconscious people. I actually did an interview with Sky News about it and then the Daily Mail contacted me afterwards asking if I saw any dead people. That was the worst thing about it undoubtedly. Awful day. by LorneSausage10 (Wed 8th Mar 2023 3:36pm)
  • People saying it's selfish to do something like this or even a 'fuck the person who did this' i don't think that's really very helpful or indeed kind to the person that felt they had no other alternative than to throw themselves in front of a train and neither is it helpful to say there is help out there. That's the problem, there isn't. Mental health waiting lists are basically endless in Scotland and people are going to be reaching crisis point like this a lot more often because of it. Wind yer necks in. I've lost a friend to suicide and to see people saying horrible things about people who take their own lives is disgusting. by LorneSausage10 (Wed 8th Mar 2023 3:56pm)
  • It's sort of ironic now that I work as a journo nearly ten years later. I would never ask anyone a question like that after they'd just witnessed something traumatic. by LorneSausage10 (Wed 8th Mar 2023 5:59pm)
  • My friend who died after taking his own life was the least selfish person I've ever met. Would have done anything to help anyone and did things just because. To see people trashing those who take their own lives by calling them selfish is just something else. by LorneSausage10 (Wed 8th Mar 2023 9:18pm)
  • I remember the financial crisis in 2008 because I was 16 and got my first part time job and Gordon Brown cut the Vat rate to encourage people to spend in the run up to Christmas. Yes it was quite worrying but I remember ultimately feeling quite disconnected from it because it was a problem created by the rich for the rich. I don't feel like that now. Things feel about a million times more fucked than they did then. Not convinced any party or independence can sort it. Someone said the media isn't reporting on it enough. I'm a journalist and I feel like all I do is write 15 stories a week about how fucked things are right now. How many more times can we say it's fucked and how many more ways can we say it? by LorneSausage10 (Thu 9th Mar 2023 1:16am)

  • This fella is potentially hurting his family by getting rattled on cocaine and not paying his tic bill. Like this isny about the moral quandary of drugs and alcohol, it's about the reality of the situation this fella is in and the reality is he is potentially putting himself in danger by pissing off some heavy duty people by no paying his tic. OP I know this will be difficult for you to hear but sometimes you can't stop your adult children from doing some stupid fucking shit. All you can do is advise and stop paying his tic. His life will probably fall apart and then he'll realise he's fucked it, hopefully. At least when that does happen offer to be there for him and don't turn your back if he genuinely shows remorse and willingness to get off the gear. by LorneSausage10 (Thu 23rd Mar 2023 3:05pm)

  • Oh aye because there are a plethora of jobs in bars in Glasgow with good pay and good conditions and if you speak nicely to your boss they'll even wipe your arse for you as well. Get real mate. I actually think we've had this argument about unions before. It rings a bell. But these people are putting their heads above the water for the industry not just in Glasgow but across the UK too. There's already been some improvements to pay and conditions generally at bars in Glasgow because Unite are absolutely killing it with organising. But according to you people should just put up, shut up and find a new job and not actually do anything to try and make life better. If unions didn't organise we'd still be working 14 hour days as a standard and have just two weeks holidays a year and we'd still send eight year old kids down a pit. by LorneSausage10 (Sat 15th Jul 2023 11:16am)
  • Yeah but my point is the vast majority of them are all shite so why not try and improve something at the place you already work? 13th note must have something going for it otherwise folk would have just left. Actually yeah, I think people who walk out and lose earnings to raise awareness of pay and conditions they are facing are role models and I do look up to them so I'm not going to apologise for that. by LorneSausage10 (Sat 15th Jul 2023 11:40am)

  • I was on a similar thing but in 2015. Minimum wage for 25 hours a week to sit on Facebook and Twitter all day for six months. Towards the end of it when they realised I wasn't a dafty, I got offered a full time job but with a new boss. I've never been out of work since though so it was worth it. by LorneSausage10 (Tue 25th Jul 2023 9:39pm)
  • Depends what you're doing and where you're coming from. Transport will be a big chunk of your budget. About a decade ago when I was a student I could have a good night in Glasgow with £50. But unless you're wanting a night of gear and ladies of the night then I can't see ye needing anymore than £140. by LorneSausage10 (Tue 25th Jul 2023 10:44pm)
  • Aw that place was great - used to go with my family when I was young by LorneSausage10 (Thu 27th Jul 2023 12:21am)
  • Oh god that's a blast from the past. I think I was maybe in the last cohort of snapfaxers as I started uni in 2010 and they were starting to wane in popularity then with the rise of Unidays and Student Beans. It's just not the same. by LorneSausage10 (Sun 30th Jul 2023 9:06pm)
  • Nothing worse than trying to fold it back up when you were mwi 😂 by LorneSausage10 (Sun 30th Jul 2023 10:50pm)
  • You sound like you’re fun at parties. The 60 other people who have commented on this thread seemed to have no issue with it. Maybe if you don’t like the way something reads, don’t read it. OP - get on to Unite Hospitality about this. They’ve been campaigning against shit like this for years. Don’t do any more trial shifts either. by LorneSausage10 (Tue 15th Aug 2023 5:40pm)
  • That kind of casual racism and worse still exists in scotland as I found out when meeting a distant cousin at a family wedding at the weekend. It’s not really confined to an older generation either by LorneSausage10 (Tue 15th Aug 2023 10:25pm)
  • Definitely recruitment agencies. I used them for a couple of years while I was establishing my “real job” and it certainly keeps a tea on the table and a roof over your head. Sometimes they lead to really good long term opportunities too. The entry requirements aren’t too taxing either and they often lead to things quickly. Also try Goodmoves where all the charity jobs are too. by LorneSausage10 (Fri 18th Aug 2023 1:09pm)
  • I once had to open a taxi door while it was still moving and spewed out the door and it accidentally went on someone’s dug. The owner helpfully said “that’s ma dug you’ve just been sick oan.” So it’s not the worst thing that’s ever happened. by LorneSausage10 (Thu 24th Aug 2023 11:20pm)
  • Well it wisnae me because by doing so I avoided a £50 fine. by LorneSausage10 (Fri 25th Aug 2023 6:45am)
  • I went to uni at the normal age of 18 but didn't really make pals until second year so only did Freshers week in second year when I was 19. But I then went back to uni age 26 to do my pgde with a whole load of other people around that age who couldn't be arsed with the student scene again. If you've not been to uni before just go for it, esp if you're at Strathclyde, there's more likely to be a variety of ages there. UWS and Caley are the same. At Glasgow it's more likely to be folk just out of school. by LorneSausage10 (Thu 31st Aug 2023 12:06am)
  • God Murano parties eh. I'll never forget the smell of Murano. It just had this lingering smell of student cooking. by LorneSausage10 (Thu 31st Aug 2023 10:08pm)
  • Yeah, basically this. The area around Waverley in Edinburgh is the same and any other major European city I've ever been to always has an issue with the area around it's main train station. I remember once being in Barcelona with my parents and my dad was off getting tickets for something or looking at an information board and this old man in his 70s came and propositioned my mum AND me. by LorneSausage10 (Fri 1st Sep 2023 8:46am)

  • Overhyped: Buck's Bar - chicken is way too big to fit on the bun and I found it a bit dry. Underhyped: Yiamas on Bath Street. Excellent, good value Greek Food. by LorneSausage10 (Thu 14th Sep 2023 9:02pm)

  • It's not as expensive as you might think to buy the other out. Worth speaking to a financial advisor about your options but it may be for the best to sell and at least get back what you put in. Hard decisions need to be made because before you know it, six months will have passed and you've not made any move towards selling. by LorneSausage10 (Sun 24th Sep 2023 8:17pm)
  • Miller and Carter is a good option for people who aren't into food or the Alston Grill under central station. You can't go wrong with that. by LorneSausage10 (Sun 1st Oct 2023 9:55am)
  • If you're spending £5~ a day on buses a weekly zonecard is worth it as I think it's £20ish a week for unlimited bus, train and subway travel around your zones on your card. If you get one Glasgow zone you automatically get to use it in the city centre. So maybe it works out better if you use public transport out with your working days. by LorneSausage10 (Wed 4th Oct 2023 7:58pm)

  • Kokos in Renfrew, Jumping Jacks in Paisley and latterly the Big Adventure in Linwood were my stomping grounds. I also thought the McDonalds play area in the Linwood was quite good too. Alas only one of these places still exists! by LorneSausage10 (Wed 11th Oct 2023 7:28pm)

  • If you're up for a day out, the best place I've ever been for a bra fitting is a place called The Personal Touch in Stirling. Used to go to Debenhams but that's closed now. Could also try John Lewis too. by LorneSausage10 (Fri 20th Oct 2023 7:39pm)
  • I think charity shop prices are getting egregious. For me, it's not just about raising cash for the charity, it's about providing cheap clothes and other goods for folk on a low income. The long and short of it is that there are going to be people who used to rely on charity shops that will now not be able to afford to shop in them. by LorneSausage10 (Mon 23rd Oct 2023 7:34pm)
  • Most have self checkouts so that you don't even need to deal with a real person. by LorneSausage10 (Thu 26th Oct 2023 10:26am)
  • I will join everyone else in recommending D'oh. I've been twice in recent weeks and honestly their donuts are the best thing I've ever put in my mouth. They're all vegan too. The pumpkin spice cheesecake donut was like there was a party in my mouth and everyone was invited. Coffee no bad as well with non dairy alternatives. by LorneSausage10 (Mon 13th Nov 2023 3:51pm)
  • Was a wee guy I went to school with who canny have been any taller than 5ft even in 6th year that got called Frodo. Can't remember the cunts actual name. by LorneSausage10 (Tue 14th Nov 2023 8:52am)

  • I was on Buchanan Street about an hour ago and got asked by three heavy dodgy looking guys if I wanted to buy perfume from a B&M bag...they'd clearly just ransacked boots 😂 by LorneSausage10 (Thu 23rd Nov 2023 6:02pm)
  • It's shit this happened in Glasgow. Please, please report this to Princes Square and also the police too. I don't know if it's just me getting auld or if it's actually just generally true but weans are feral at the moment. Esp in groups of wee boys. I bet if you confronted one of them on their own though, they wouldn't be so bolshy. I hope this hasn't put a damper on your date. by LorneSausage10 (Wed 29th Nov 2023 12:08am)
  • They'll do Christmas presents for the weans as well if you're needing them. John that runs it is a great guy. by LorneSausage10 (Tue 5th Dec 2023 4:58pm)
