  • As far as I know, you need standard grade credit/NAT 5 maths and English and there is no way around this. I may be wrong, just from what I have heard and read. by buckfast1994 (Tue 8th Jan 2019 7:59am)

  • If you’re looking for walkability after a night oot then Merchant City is by far your better bet. The West End does have good places for a drink, but the city centre/Merchant City has more options for bars and clubs. The city centre is far from quiet, especially on the weekends. Be sure to ask a local barman for a classic Glaswegian cocktail. It’s called ‘Show Me Your Tadger’ - it’s an acquired taste but the girls LOVE it. by buckfast1994 (Fri 11th Jan 2019 7:53pm)

  • Places to stay: Govanhill, Possil, Easterhouse. Places to drink: Louden Tavern (especially around mid July, colourful local festival will be on) Places to eat: Blue Lagoons are known for their exquisite Scottish cuisine. Any further questions - fire away! Oh, remember it’s common, when having a good time, to shout ‘Up the RA!’ - the RA meaning a radically good time! by buckfast1994 (Mon 14th Jan 2019 12:37pm)

  • You're comparing one of Western Europe's richest and sunniest cities to one of its poorest and rainiest. There are vast cultural, political and city planning differences that come with this. I'm not saying there aren't valid lessons to learn from our neighbours or that we shouldn't improve the city, but to assume it's this easy is incredibly naive, especially since all these observations are based on a week's holiday. by buckfast1994 (Mon 14th Jan 2019 2:51pm)

  • I mean I guess he does say some left leaning things, but it’s nothing major. Need to bear in mind that Glasgow is a fairly left leaning and very political. I wouldn’t class myself as left wing and it didn’t affect the tour whatsoever. I’d thoroughly recommend it. by buckfast1994 (Tue 22nd Jan 2019 2:32pm)
  • Money, I’d imagine. Architectural styles change over time, too. But I agree, those kind of buildings are far nicer than the modern shite. by buckfast1994 (Sat 26th Jan 2019 4:12pm)

  • I may be narrow minded here but I just think unless there is a mass and strict consensus about how to reduce climate change across the entire globe very little will change. It just seems pointless standing in George Square with a placard. I know that protests and movements have to start somewhere and often that can be grassroots, but unless every country and corporation gets together these protests will achieve very little. I also feel that in 2019 in this day and age we are so overly reliant on fuels and power. I think that the world has basically gone past the finishing post and that global warming can be slowed, but certainly not stopped. That’s just my thoughts anyway. I may be talking shite. by buckfast1994 (Fri 15th Feb 2019 2:03pm)
  • I understand that you’re raising awareness for a noble cause but I would still imagine the majority of Glaswegians aren’t overly fussed about climate change. I may be wrong, just an assumption. It will take some cataclysmic event caused by global warming for people to take note I reckon. I mean the evidence is already there that the world is fucked - record extreme temperatures, rising sea levels, ice caps etc - and the majority of folk still aren’t too interested. The fact the leader of the most powerful and influential nation on earth doesn’t believe in climate change speaks volumes, too! by buckfast1994 (Fri 15th Feb 2019 2:35pm)
  • Nah we should do something - but what? There needs to be a total consensus from everybody, every nation, every corporation for it to successfully work. For example, Scotland charging for poly bags is fantastic to reduce plastic waste but does it make a huge dent in the figures when other nations are still polluting on an enormous scale? by buckfast1994 (Fri 15th Feb 2019 2:44pm)
  • Nah I agree with you and with what they’re doing. Maybe I’m just being overly negative. by buckfast1994 (Fri 15th Feb 2019 3:07pm)

  • Piss poor but what did people really expect? Even in the last days of TITP the line ups were pretty generic and dross. by buckfast1994 (Mon 18th Feb 2019 6:06pm)
  • It is honestly so very very shite. I absolutely loved series 1-6, I think those episodes are TV gold and me and my mates still quote them to this day. For whatever reason the more recent episodes are dross. I don’t know if they’ve got new writers or if they’re just completely out of ideas but fuck me it’s awful. I genuinely didn’t laugh once tonight. Also, Methadone Mick is absolutely brutal. by buckfast1994 (Sun 24th Feb 2019 10:37pm)
  • What did they honestly expect moving to Glasgow? by buckfast1994 (Mon 25th Feb 2019 9:50am)
  • Made this account in my halcyon university days, when bottles of tonic wine and taking lines were commonplace. Alas, now I work full time and pity my existence, but I do okay. Edit: just noticed I made this account three years ago to the day. One of my lecturers in uni suggested we created accounts to discover subreddits about environmental political thought; I now just use it to look at videos of dugs & people falling. by buckfast1994 (Mon 25th Feb 2019 12:24pm)

  • I’m a Rangers man but it isn’t limited to Celtic fans. Both sets of the Old Firm are as bad as each other. Neither really have a clue nor care for Ireland or The Troubles, they only do it to wind each other up. It’s embarrassing they still sing and support these organisations in 2019. by buckfast1994 (Tue 12th Mar 2019 10:41am)

  • While I do not think he’s amusing or funny whatsoever, the fact his video was taken to court is pretty mental. He seems like a bit of a fud but he doesn’t bother me. by buckfast1994 (Tue 19th Mar 2019 6:59pm)
  • Aye but he was having a laugh. I mean I didn’t find it funny at all, was pretty sick, but it’s evident he’s joking. I’m not saying he’s a comedian, far from it, but Frankie Boyle, Jimmy Carr etc have patter of the same ilk and don’t get taken to court over it. by buckfast1994 (Tue 19th Mar 2019 7:16pm)

  • City Centre: Auctioneers would be your best bet. Just off George Square, Rangers pub but not a in your face Rangers pub. East End: Louden or Bristol. They’re more obviously Rangers pubs and probably will be packed. They’re a fifteen minute walk to Celtic Park, possibility there may be trouble in that part of the city of some trouble. South Side/Ibrox: Louden. This pub will be jumping. Probably the best out of the lot if your boyfriend is a Rangers fan. It’s right across from the subway, too, which is handy. Would advise your boyfriend not to wear any football colours. All it takes is one idiot to kick off. by buckfast1994 (Mon 25th Mar 2019 1:53pm)

Or this guy wasn’t [blinded](https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/uk/northern-ireland-celtic-fan-blinded-after-old-firm-assault-37289870.html) for wearing a Celtic scarf after being assaulted, albeit in Ayrshire. It’s not unreasonable to suggest that a person doesn’t wear colours on an Old Firm day. by buckfast1994 (Mon 25th Mar 2019 4:40pm)
  • They can fuck off. I hate that in America too, demanding a tip for doing their job? Aye nae bor. by buckfast1994 (Wed 27th Mar 2019 2:45pm)

Dr offered me groups I could go to or if I wanted to be referred to a clinical physiologist (I’m sure that’s the title) then it could happen. I instead took fluoxetine and it worked for me. Everybody’s different I guess. My personal experience was decent enough. I know that some folk aren’t into it, but the prescription pills made me feel more normal and I didn’t feel bad coming off them. If you haven’t tried them then maybe you should read into it a bit. by buckfast1994 (Wed 5th Jun 2019 9:19pm)

  • Nah man fuck this. She’s a bastard that stole money going towards FOOD BANKS. I don’t care that she’s got a wean, she’s a cretin that was earning £80,000 a year and still stole from the poorest in our society. by buckfast1994 (Tue 11th Jun 2019 5:52pm)
  • Using that logic then if I was to take £25k right from the bank account of a charity I should not get the jail? Nonsense. Violent or not, people deserve to be punished for what they do. by buckfast1994 (Tue 11th Jun 2019 5:59pm)
  • She stole money that was going to food banks. I genuinely cannot think of a more heartless act to do in this economic climate. The whole fact she’s got a kid should be used **against** her, rather than in her favour. What kind of mother will she be if she’s okay with stealing money from charities? Then not admitting guilt and coming clean? Not exactly a good role model, is she? I understand where you’re coming from, I do. But there has to be a line drawn at some point here. I agree that violent or sexual crimes are deserving of time behind bars, but this too warrants harsh punishment. by buckfast1994 (Tue 11th Jun 2019 6:12pm)

  • I miss Bongo Terry, he was quite a character. I’ve never seen this person but have heard from at least three different people about the guy that walks backwards everywhere. Story goes that he took too much acid in the 90s and it never quite wore off; now he walks places backwards. by buckfast1994 (Wed 19th Jun 2019 7:27am)
  • Not a grass by buckfast1994 (Wed 19th Jun 2019 9:48am)
  • Aye I never came across him from memory but I worked with a few folk that told me the exact story you have. Apparently he would fire down Buchanan St at full pelt walking backwards: the stuff of legend. by buckfast1994 (Wed 19th Jun 2019 10:32am)
  • Yes! The exact guy. Was always cutting about Morrison’s (Safeway in the old days). I wish somebody had a picture of him. by buckfast1994 (Wed 19th Jun 2019 7:50pm)
  • Been to a fair few afters. Aye there’s drugs out in the open but the polis and licensing board would be idiots to think that patsies aren’t being dished out in pubs and legal clubs across Glasgow. In fact, I saw more fights and wee neds at licensed places than I ever did at any afters. Why don’t they just give places like Subby and SWG3 5 or even 6am licenses? This would get around people needing or wanting to go to an afters, in my opinion. by buckfast1994 (Sun 23rd Jun 2019 4:33pm)

  • I do see where you’re coming from to an extent. There are people that would fly the flag purely to wind up others, but there really is nothing inherently sectarian by putting an Ulster Banner out your window. by buckfast1994 (Fri 5th Jul 2019 12:21pm)
  • Can I just jump in and hijack this thread for my own selfish gain...my one year virgin contract is due up in August this year, am I fuck paying over the odds for the package once it expires. • Unpopular opinion: doing this will achieve fuck all in the grand scheme of things. Of course it’s good that they’re raising awareness and informing the public of the way the world is going, but we’re a country of 5 million. We’re nothing globally. Christ [China](https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2019/may/23/china-factories-releasing-thousands-of-tonnes-of-illegal-cfc-gases-study-finds) has been caught pumping tonnes of illegal CFC gasses into the atmosphere which is horrendous. I’m all for helping to slow climate change and making alterations to the way I live to do so, but I feel that to make a noticeable change the whole world has to take heed and join in. Protests like this, yes, will get press coverage and raise a few eyebrows, but unless all governments, corporations and people worldwide get together, it’ll achieve nothing. Who knows though? This boat parked in Glasgow might be the catalyst; we’ll wait and see. by buckfast1994 (Mon 15th Jul 2019 11:00am)

  • I might be totally daft here, but I’m confused about politicians being too scared to go after the OO. The SNP run Scotland and I highly doubt any members of the Lodge are fans of the party. Surely the OO are also in a minority nationwide, so would banning their marches really negatively hit the votes for a party that much? by buckfast1994 (Sat 7th Sep 2019 4:22pm)

  • Having a child and not being a danger doesn’t excuse one from time behind bars, in my books. It sets quite a precedent if a person can steal thousands from charities but gets out with a tag because she’s recently had a wean. I agree totally with your point about the bankers but we can’t really have whataboutery when hungry Glaswegians lost out because of this cunt. by buckfast1994 (Fri 27th Sep 2019 10:23am)

  • Yes. You’re correct. But Scotland and NI are probably the only countries on earth with massive sporting teams whose fans regularly chant about paramilitaries, sectarianism and bigotry. They don’t have hockey teams in Canada that sing about the UVF or basketball teams in Australia who chant about the IRA. That’s what the issue is in my books. by buckfast1994 (Sun 6th Oct 2019 9:19am)
  • While I understand the history of why RC schools came about and appreciate that, I don’t particularly agree with segregating children at the age of five due to the religious beliefs of the parents. I think it is far too young an age to be splitting up groups and could create a sort of us v them mentality. Also, now I am not 100% on this, but I am sure that you have to be ‘approved’ by a priest or get some sort of certificate to teach at an RC school, which is bonkers to me. I think there is some top whataboutery going on in this thread. The video is just bigotry to the extreme and somehow the debate has been changed to why RC schools are bad for society. Doesn’t seem quite right. by buckfast1994 (Sun 6th Oct 2019 9:36am)

I’d ban them outright unless for licensed displays, like at the Green or Strathy Park. by buckfast1994 (Wed 6th Nov 2019 10:28pm)

  • DELETED I personally didn’t go out. I had a few in the house, but I’ve plenty of pals who went to George Square. I reckon it’s down to not winning the title since 2011, and stopping Celtic’s 10IAR attempt. Unless you’re a football fan, it would be hard to appreciate just how enormous this season was/is for both sets of fans. You saw the same scenes in Liverpool when they won their first title in a generation, and Leeds when they eventually got back to the top flight after almost two decades of trying. To a lot of people in places like Glasgow and Liverpool - football trumps all else. Love it or loathe it, that’s the way it was, the way it is, and the way it always will be. I think that above factor, combined with alcohol, exuberance, and frustration would probably help to explain why folk acted the way they did. by buckfast1994 (Mon 8th Mar 2021 10:35am)

  • DELETED I’ve gave an explanation for why football fans have behaved the way they have. Rangers fans aren’t unique, and neither are the events of yesterday. It isn’t solely an issue my club and my city have. I never said I was there, or that I agreed with it. Take that poker out your arse, ma bhoy. by buckfast1994 (Mon 8th Mar 2021 11:18am)
  • DELETED Breaking News: Massive football club with hundreds of thousands of supporters have hooligan element. Up next, water is wet. by buckfast1994 (Mon 8th Mar 2021 11:23am)
  • DELETED > the excuse that it was stopping Celtics 10IAR is a bit spurious Therein lies why you don’t quite understand the mass gatherings yesterday. This season was, arguably, the most important in the history of football in our city. There was so much on the line and it’s hard to comprehend this unless you’re invested emotionally into the sport. The 2008 game is the UEFA Cup Final. 250,000 traveled down, and the overwhelming majority were fine. You are always going to get idiots in crowds. I’ve been to enough concerts that have been ruined by a handful drunken cunts. If you have a quarter of a million people mingling, and boozing all day, you’re always going to get trouble. I’m not condoning the behaviour. by buckfast1994 (Mon 8th Mar 2021 11:45am)
  • DELETED Ah, fair enough then, mate. Glad you’re condoning your fans injuring staff and police officers in that case. It was the same event on a much larger scale which is a given considering the two fanbases of the clubs - that’s undeniable. If St J had a large support, the numbers at their stadium would have been bigger. I would really need to disagree with you there. The 10IAR is/was the holy grail for Celtic. It really was. It’s never been achieved in Scotland, and probably now never will. Rangers had to stop it. I’m not justifying anything. by buckfast1994 (Mon 8th Mar 2021 12:03pm)
  • If I was really justifying it, then I personally would’ve been in George Square out my tits smashing up benches. I was in the house, watching the tele. I’m trying to give an explanation for the actions of others. by buckfast1994 (Mon 8th Mar 2021 12:13pm)
  • They’re not really dissimilar though, are they? A quick Google shows that there were police assaulted and fireworks damaging a grade A listed building. by buckfast1994 (Mon 8th Mar 2021 12:24pm)
  • That’s good Klopp done that. He does seem very likeable, and I didn’t know he actively promoted the message. Gerrard/Rangers should’ve done the same, in my opinion. In an ideal world, we could have a pedestrianised thoroughfare running from the Cathedral and Necropolis, winding down the street to Trongate, the Saltmarket, Glasgow Green, and finally the Clyde. It could be our Royal Mile. Instead, we have a pothole-ridden dump, with derelict shops and those with influence and money clearly no desire to maintain historic locations. • Very simplistic explanation: Protestant Dutch King William, from the House of Orange, was invited by nobles to oust the British Catholic monarch. He fought and defeated the Catholic King James VII (II of Britain) in the Glorious Revolution in the late 17th C. Orange Walks are in celebration of this major event in both British and Irish history. They’ve been going for over 100 years. You get them in Scotland, NI, ROI, and even in North America. They’re highly contentious in Scotland and the island of Ireland. Obviously Glasgow is unique, as we have two football clubs with strong religious and political connotations, and the Walks are part of this. Not just geographically closer, but financially advantageous given they have free parking. For arguments sake, if GCC waived parking fees, would people go out their way to drive into a miserable city centre to go shopping? I don’t see it. It would be very rare for a harmless tourist to end up in trouble, but all it takes is one drunken idiot. It’s a world famous rivalry, and, arguably, the most intense and volatile across all sports. While it can be a spectacle to witness, you’re best keeping out of harms way, in that sense. Plenty of brilliant museums, tours, and day trips to be made in and around the city to keep you both occupied. I hope you both enjoy Glasgow and Scotland. • It is very accurate of the situation in Glasgow. Majority of people I know regularly take gear, have done in the past, or would do so now if offered. Scariest aspect is that it is not even a case of doing it at special events either. I’ve seen folk take gear at funerals, family gatherings, pub quizzes etc. I think that it’s so ubiquitous because of Glasgow’s history with addiction combined with the relative easiness to source gear. You can get a gram dropped off quicker than a Dominos. One of the boys in the video says that it goes hand in hand with bevvy, and this is the main factor for me. A few pints down and decision making goes out the window. If you take alcohol out the equation, cocaine won’t be seen as a necessity for some. No idea how we can fix it. Sure, we can prevent deaths which is superb, but people will always be sniffing gear: its an escapism. I’m not certain that decriminalisation is the answer for cocaine; it’s too dangerous. by buckfast1994 (Mon 4th Jul 2022 12:25pm)
  • Have you tried cocaine before? by buckfast1994 (Mon 4th Jul 2022 1:07pm)
  • Yes. But you can’t get a habit without trying, which is my point. For the overwhelming majority, I’d bet they first tried gear after a few pints, and got a taste for it, and so the cycle begins. MDMA is far less addictive, and also far more enjoyable. However, your point about unregulated drugs is valid. I’m unsure about full decriminalisation, but I think that it would be worthwhile to provide free drug testing kits. That way at least you’ve some knowledge of what you’re consuming. by buckfast1994 (Mon 4th Jul 2022 1:15pm)

Rangers do, but often require the purchaser to have bought a MyGers package (£50) beforehand. OP will definitely be able to pick up a spare ticket before most matches if they stand outside the Ibrox Subway station. by buckfast1994 (Wed 26th Jul 2023 2:53pm)
