  • I live in the south side, depends where you go. Sometimes it’s most People wearing masks, some times you get a mix. It really makes my blood boil that people make zero effort to help reduce the virus. Quite sad how selfish people act. Really fucks me off when I see quite a few of my neighbours blatantly ignore rules with their various visitors. by crazygoldfi5h (Tue 29th Dec 2020 9:03pm)
  • I used to live on Mainstreet a long long time ago. Was the newer fats just on corner. My first week there a gang on local Neds gave me a kicking as I wasn’t from there & took my bike. Then gave me it back as they felt bad, when they realised I did live there. Cunts by crazygoldfi5h (Wed 17th Mar 2021 12:38pm)

  • 3 bedroom house any day over a flat. A flats good when you have good neighbours, but circumstances can change quickly…. And your new neighbour could be a nightmare. I live in Cathcart…..If buying an older house, ask the obvious questions. When was it replumbed, wired, fuse box etc. Cathcart is a good area if you can afford / find a house. Merry Lee, Lang side and clarkston also good / connected to Cathcart area. Kings park has lots of older 3 bedroom houses. Another few area that are close. Carmunnock, nice houses and good bang for your buck. East Kilbride, some new developments that are quite a bit cheaper than Glasgow … but may all be gone. Eaglesham also on outskirts, nice area and very affordable. Blantyre - some nice developments and pretty close by crazygoldfi5h (Thu 12th Aug 2021 5:08pm)

  • Keep laying traps with good bait like others have said. I’m afraid if you are seeing one, there will be more. Keep laying traps until a week passes with no activations. Glue boards are also good, lay them down once you establish routes. But means you have to put mouse out if it’s misery, however they are very effective. Make sure all your food sources are in sealed and secure places. Important you take away food sources so that louse goes for trap. If all else fails you can try poison, put it in a sandwich bag & jam into mouse entry point. It will stink when mouse dies and then flies for a few days. Clear away any clutter or stuff lying around so it has less places to hide and less sources of nesting materials. Get a tapo c200 camera, it’s cheap and you can monitor via IR / day time . It’s pretty sensitive. Once eliminated, use steel mesh and plaster / cement to plug entry points. Give the house a clean with disinfectant. by crazygoldfi5h (Wed 8th Sep 2021 3:41pm)

  • Massive problem with rats in Govanhill. Pal of mines is in pest control & his bread n butter business is rats & bed bugs in the G hill area. You might be spotlessly clean but it’s. Gamble with your neighbours. Why don’t you see if you can rent for a while, then at least you can walk away if it the nostalgic dream hasn’t turned into a nightmare. by crazygoldfi5h (Sun 28th Nov 2021 6:33pm)
  • Read previous posts I’m this sub. Huge issue with rats, cockroaches & bedbugs in Govanhill area. If your budget allows, Cathcart / Battlefield is a much nicer area. Cottage flat in Kingspark or Croftfoot also decent options by crazygoldfi5h (Fri 10th Dec 2021 5:34pm)

  • It’s good for the cheap offer but I would move on after it. Gusto better but even after a while I got bored with both of them and went back to just regular shopping. It’s good if you are a bit bored and looking for some inspiration. Also good if you are crap at cooking. Main negative is prep time. Triple it. by crazygoldfi5h (Sun 2nd Jan 2022 8:06pm)
  • A family member of mines is pretty crap at cooking. They managed to produce some top notch meals from gusto and hello fresh. We keep the recipe cards and just buy ingredients from local supermarket now by crazygoldfi5h (Sun 2nd Jan 2022 8:12pm)

  • DELETED I hate to burst your bubble. But they are not crying out for teachers. It’s a complete myth. Crying out for teachers if you are happy to travel, in Glasgow, only the strong survive. Think hard and do some proper research. Friend of mines is a primary school teacher, they were lead to believe that there’s millions of jobs, when I’m reality they are cutting back year after year. Schools are shockingly funded, so they often have to pay for their own resources. Parents are completely entitled & complain about the slightest thing, unwilling to accept that their child might be lying. Add onto that, junior teachers getting treated like shit. Usually given the worst classes with very little support. Power hungry heads or deputy heads who use a management style from the 1950s. Know your place when just in the door and pray to god that your face fits. Long hours for shit pay, usually half the weekend goes into preparing teaching plans. Apparently some schools arnt too bad, but chances are slim in Glasgow. Glasgow city council often lie and move the goal post, used to be you got made permanent after 2 years, now they are back peddling on that. If you are a newly qualified teacher at best you will get permanent supply, if you don’t have a high enough score then it’s supply. So have a plan B if you like eating & having any money. I would do some volunteer work or go in as a classroom assistant to see if you really want to do it. Amazingly they still like their job! by crazygoldfi5h (Fri 18th Feb 2022 6:07pm)
  • Maybe a bit harsh with the pay comment. But when you weigh Up the hours vs pay. Agreed it’s not all doom n gloom, they get a lot out of their job and the impact they have on young peoples lives. by crazygoldfi5h (Fri 18th Feb 2022 7:58pm)
  • I moved into a new build last year and we really love it. Research your builder, check out forums and Facebook reviews. Prepare to read horror stories. Pros. Safer, much better standards for fires. Better insulation, my energy bills are less than half. Easier to access fires and pipe work, most new builds have access panels in different parts of the property. Believe it or not my house has great sound proofing, can’t hear anything from neighbours or outside. I can hear the kids if they are being noisy in the room above. Guarantees - any issues you have builders or you have your ten year guarantee with NHBC. You do need to be very tough on the builders. Cons. New builds are always delayed. Check the clauses for penalties and cancellations. Careful what you tell the sales person, if you have the money ready and no rush to move out, they will shove you to the bottom of the pile. Accept there will be snagging, make a list and keep a cool head. Check under cupboards and sinks for leaks. Check windows every week for sealant failure, it tends to pop due to settlement. You don’t need to be horrible or nasty with builder….. just don’t give them an inch. If you are getting no where. Tell them your lawyer will be in touch. If really getting no where shame them on social media. Payment - they tend to be pricks, don’t let them bully you. They want money as quickly as possible. When doing first inspection ask if you can record how to do things like set boiler. Take any entry date and add 6months on. Don’t be shy at asking for any freebies ! by crazygoldfi5h (Sun 20th Feb 2022 9:39am)

  • Hate to break it to you but most of them have shit customer service. Virgin used to do my head in with constant calls to get me to take their mobile or sports packages & their annual price increases. I swapped to BT. The service has been solid Barr one week. BT were completely useless & just lied. Friend of mines is sky fibre and happy, but I’ve found them to be shocking. After being round a few of them I would probably go back to virgin when my BT contract ends by crazygoldfi5h (Mon 21st Feb 2022 8:23pm)
  • You tried to adopt ? I don’t know if it’s any better now, we tried to adopt 6 months ago and there was a massive queue in front of us. Almost no dogs were suitable for first timers or people with kids. by crazygoldfi5h (Wed 23rd Feb 2022 5:37pm)

  • I doubt you could get any worse than next to central station. Apart from the terrible air quality. You have noise, general safety and let’s not forget the army of junkies who like to frequent that area. There’s also the blue lagoon chippy. Don’t eat from there. You would be safer using the spoons that the junkies use to cook up for cooking your dinner. by crazygoldfi5h (Mon 11th Jul 2022 5:00pm)

  • I have a lot of American friends and work colleagues. 1. Their words for Saturday night in the town / drinking. “women dress like whores”. Having spent a lot of time in the USA. Most nightspots in the USA the ladies are more conservatively dressed. 2. People call people cunts. Some times in anger, some times as a term of endearment. 3. We don’t care about j walking. 4. Drink driving laws here are very strict. You would be as well not drinking. 5. Most bars don’t require a tip. Usually it’s custom to tip 10% in restaurants. If you get bad service you don’t tip. They won’t attack you. 6. Uber only works down town, anymore than about 20mins outside of town. Getting Ubers is tough. by crazygoldfi5h (Mon 18th Jul 2022 8:14pm)
  • One other thing. Generally most people like USA / Canadians here. You will get a warm welcome. by crazygoldfi5h (Mon 18th Jul 2022 9:03pm)
  • Another one. Don’t eat at the blue lagoon at central station. It’s shite by crazygoldfi5h (Mon 18th Jul 2022 11:03pm)
  • After years and years of my wife and kids nagging me to get a dog. I caved. Now we did try and get a rescue, but local dogs trust had massive demand due to covid and also our kids were under ten. We thought we were prepared. A puppy is harder work than a baby, they may look cute and you have fun moments. Also a huge cost, much higher than we expected. We were so close to giving the dog up so many times. But 1. The dog we have is very good, very cute or it would have been gone long ago. 2. We didn’t want to teach our kids to give up when something gets tough. The other thing ti consider is cleaning, we have a dog that doesn’t cast much, fuck me constant dog hairs. Other thing to consider is holidays, you need someone to take the dog for a few weeks if you want a holiday abroad. On the plus side, I’ve lost a tonne of weight, as naturally the walking seems to be my job. If you really want a dog, see if you can dog sit for a friend or family to check if it’s really for you. by crazygoldfi5h (Tue 19th Jul 2022 8:10am)
  • I’ve tried the delights of other bluenlagoons and can confirm they are good. The thing that really adds to the ambience of the central lagoon is the legions of junkie scum bags by crazygoldfi5h (Tue 19th Jul 2022 10:14am)
  • Just being honest. Doesn’t make me a callous nut job. Go and dry yer eyes. What would prefer? Give the op a taste of reality so they weigh up how serious it is to get a dog. Or risk another dog, being broken hearted and going through being re-homed. My dog is very well loved and taken care of by my family. Think it’s clear that I wasn’t a dog person as it took the family a long time to convince me. by crazygoldfi5h (Tue 19th Jul 2022 10:24am)

  • It will certainly get you out and about. Good if you fancy a chat with other dog walkers. Great during the summer, winters didn’t bother me or neither does the rain as you warm up when walking. 6am walk in the winter can be tough for some people. Cockroaches. Some streets are ok. If your budget allows, look at Cathcart. by crazygoldfi5h (Wed 20th Jul 2022 3:10pm)
  • Once pests move into an area. Everyone suffers by crazygoldfi5h (Wed 20th Jul 2022 4:33pm)
  • It’s both an issue with local culture and shite Glasgow Council. A good place to start is locals looking after their street and doing litter patrols once a day for ten minutes can make a huge difference. Even keep your own close, drive way or entrance tidy. And I mean all areas. I’ve seen plenty of. Ice houses where rubbish blown in has sat for days. People need to show some pride and passion for where they live. by crazygoldfi5h (Thu 21st Jul 2022 10:33am)

  • Really depends what type of career you want to have. Your drives and ambitions will change over time. Even more when you settle down. You don’t always need to have career experience in your field to get a job. If you can get any job, even part time and have some examples to talk about how you’ve handled situations or did you enjoy working with a wide scope of people. Other option is to apply for summer work at local companies, as people are always off on holiday and sometimes cover is required.”. Obviously you need to research relevant places. Don’t be too scared about leaving Glasgow. Big world out there and lots of opportunities if you can handle some travel by crazygoldfi5h (Mon 25th Jul 2022 12:00pm)

When money gets tight I do any of the following : - flip shit on eBay thst I don’t need - see what I can buy, repair and resale (at a pace that keeps it like a hobby) - friend of mines does dog walking at weekends - decent cash. - another one is I occasionally do some extra weekend work or evening work. • Difficult to answer, as no one will have an idea of how bad it’s needing repaired or your budget. If the kitchen and bathrooms are functional then I would focus on. If the roof is fucked or the wiring needs re done, then no point in spunking 10G on a lovely shitter or fancy kitchen. Wiring. Is it to a modern standard and safe? Is the fuse box safe and been replaced in the past 20 years? If it’s one of those types that show a visible wire and almost Huge fuse then get it replaced quickly. Plumbing - check for lead pipes, unlikely but you still get it. Roof. Get it checked and serviced,,,,, loose tiles, any leaks fixed, pointing. Or if budget allows, replace. Chimney stack. Check it’s safe. Windows. If it’s not double glazing or if any of the glazing has failed then get it sorted. If it’s an old property, check for any pest problems, rats, mice squirrels, wasp nests, bed bugs. Anything that looked like it’s been gnawed or droppings. Get any nooks n crannies plugged with steel mesh. Heating. If it’s got central heating, get it serviced and raiders bleed and flushed. If the boiler is old then replace it. Brick work - check for any bad cracks / crumbling bricks. Carpets and flooring. Get them cleaned. People are clatty bastards by crazygoldfi5h (Wed 30th Nov 2022 8:34pm)

  • The pest guy is full of Shit. If you have the money - get a reputable pest company to come out. Not rentakill. This won’t go away by doing nothing. Rats breed roughly 6 litters per year and with their own family members. 5-10 rats per litter. First of all your flat. Check (and I mean move Shit so you can clearly see) behind any furniture, a key sign if any dust has been disturbed, footprints or what looks like black smears. The black smudges is oil : crap from the rat. Check under any kitchen cupboard, check any boxes of serials for nibbles. If you spot an entry point - put a trap near the entrance with a tasty treat like a biscuit or chocolate. Cheese is bull shit, it’s not Tom n Jerry. Any holes use steel mesh, you can buy this cheap from B&Q and cut with decent scissors or snips. Steel wool won’t do shit. Another test is to leave a biscuit on a plate in a quiet corner, if the biscuit goes in a few days, then they have found a way in. Now out side. get any bird feeders down, bins repaired, any dirty neighbours leaving rubbish. Tell them it’s causing rats. If bins have holes, get them repaired or replaced. Check for entry points, usually drains, cracks in walls larger than a couple of inches. Rats a great climbers. They are also excellent diggers, a good pest control guy will spot any holes in the garden. Check under any sheds, leave a good few traps about the garden. Once you have bagged about 1-2 weeks worth of rats, plug all holes in the building. The roof, get pest control guy to leave traps near the rats paths. You will find they are shitting in the same area. If you can buy a cheap web cam with motion detection and IR it helps identify their pathways in the loft. Now poison. It works quick as rats are horrible and eat anything. But you can have a miserable time when they die, flies and stinks. So always better to try traps and then block access. General poison is good but there’s a blue gel poison that they can’t resist and kills then quick, but only available to licensed pest controller. Do the above and the rats will be gone in 1-2 months. by crazygoldfi5h (Wed 18th Jan 2023 7:49am)

  • Glasgow is a friendly city. Like any city it has its good spots and bad spots. Generally most people are friendly, even more friendly to you yanks. It’s far cheaper than London and generally less crime. Easy to get to most places in the UK cheaply from Glasgow. Glasgows a wee bit like Cleveland if that helps give you a comparison. Weather is hit n miss it can be miserable and grey one year and then a blazing hot long summer the next. Our summers / winters are no where as severe extremes like you get with say Chicago. One thing that will shock you a little culturally is how the local girls dress vs Americans. American girls tend to dress quite conservative particularly in the upper middle class groups. Glasgow girls are quite the opposite. Source is my boss and a few friends are yanks. They always comment about it, when in town. by crazygoldfi5h (Fri 10th Mar 2023 9:32am)

  • Quite a quiet area, mostly family’s or empty nesters. Some roads can be busy such as Aikenhead road. Generally quite clean, not too much litter. Bam count is quite low, you get the odd roaster passing through but never any hassle. Close to Asda and motorway. If it’s Aiken head road then it’s a main road and very busy at rush hour. Quiet at night / weekends. Crazy when there’s an event at Hampden. I used to live near the train station by crazygoldfi5h (Mon 13th Mar 2023 12:42pm)
  • Generally fine. Decent amount of traffic passing through that road during peak. Montford pub (don’t even known if it’s still open). Might have some steamers at chucking out time. I used to stay a few streets away near Kingspark Avenue / translation - never had any issues. Most folks were good. by crazygoldfi5h (Mon 13th Mar 2023 12:47pm)

  • Not everyone knows what they want to do in life. Either get into a good trade like joiner, plumber or spark. Shite until you get qualified but good once you get established and plenty of work. If you don’t fancy on the tools then I would research what industry has the most growth / jobs and align your education to that. Plenty of people start uni doing one thing and swap to another. I recommend you find a career that gives you the opportunity to travel as that’s where more money can be made and will mold you onto a more employable character in the future. Don’t stay in retail. It’s shite, most retail companies squeeze every penny and treat you like dirt. Only to be treated like dirt by an entitled public. Public services are also shite. Council has no money. • West end is quite pricy - so you need to weigh up travel cost vs living there. Paisley and EK are quite far and you would have to get multiple buses / trains. I personally wouldn’t recommend these options. Depends on your budget and want area you want to live in. If you have the cash, find a place in the west end. Southside is cheaper - and close to the city centre. Cambuslang is also cheaper and relatively close to the city centre. Denniston is in the east end, but you need ti be more careful with area. Charring cross is an option that’s close. City centre of Glasgow would be a short journey to the west end, but I’ve no idea on pricing. by crazygoldfi5h (Mon 17th Apr 2023 5:38pm)

Place I used to live at, neighbour constantly had food out for wildlife and refused to accept they were causing a rat problem as they had being doing it for years. I sent up a webcam overlooking my garden (plus capturing the feeder). U also put up the ring sticker so no one could complain I was illegally filming them. First night showed about 20 rats on there feeders. This eventually persuaded them to take them down. Literally two weeks later they had them back up. • A good school will look after your daughter. For example my daughters old school, pretty much do zero…… classes were a riot, time table a mess and a toxic year group. New school, all kids nice, well behaved in class. School grounds clean and tidy….. all of the girls offering to spend lunch and hung out. Everyone has respect for their classmates. It’s only been 1 day but my daughter is a different person. Restrict phone use. This will obviously cause upset, but it does improve their mental health. I would take my daughter on hill walks to help get her away from life. Also meant no phone signal. If she would have a hard spike during the week, we would just happen to need ice cream ….a half hour trip to a nice place would sometimes break the cycle. We had the same concerns as you, in the end we released it was our own fears getting in the way of change, wish I had done it a year ago. by crazygoldfi5h (Fri 18th Aug 2023 6:52am)

  • It’s really baffling why people think it’s ok to just Chuck rubbish without a care in the world. Grates on me when you drive by a spot and a tonne of litter just sitting. I can never understand when you pass through some spots why the locals can’t work together and look after their neighbourhood. Won’t miss the pricks who spit gum out of their car window or flick cigarettes out (granted that can happen anywhere). I won’t miss how people can’t pick up a dog shit, why own a fucking dog if you can’t be respectful to others. Good bye to the stupid orange walks. The old firm shit, that can fuck off too. Just an excuse for people to be cunts to each other. by crazygoldfi5h (Sat 19th Aug 2023 12:07am)
  • It’s nice living at home where you might only pay digs. I do miss those days but couldn’t take living with my parents. If you can afford it buy a place to get in the property ladder. There’s also quite a few support schemes out there to help. Sure it brings stress, but you will need to survive in your own one day. Do it the right way, tell your parents you feel it’s time to learn how to survive on your own. by crazygoldfi5h (Sat 19th Aug 2023 10:39am)

  • Like any big city …….common sense. Avoid dark ally’s….. and places that look a bit shit. Most people in Glasgow are friendly. Everywhere in Glasgow has good and bad parts. West end and south side are generally considered the best parts, but there’s plenty of good areas in the east and north of the city. How long are you here and where are thinking of staying? Assuming this is university since it’s October time? by crazygoldfi5h (Mon 21st Aug 2023 9:43pm)
  • Ok you will be fine as a tourist, Glasgow starts to get cold in October so check out the weather before you come. Fridays and Saturday nights are busy as you would expect. Best way to get a feel for the city and to see the typical tourist stuff is the hop on bus. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Products-g186534-zfg11873-a_contentId.102864684945+10401467932-Glasgow_Scotland.html another site to give you some guidance. https://peoplemakeglasgow.com/see-do/tours-trails City centre of Glasgow has tonnes of bars and restaurants, so you won’t struggle to find a friendly place. The Pot Still bar is a very tourist friendly pub, the bar staff are great and will recommend a whiskey if you want to try some. https://thepotstill.co.uk/ If you haven’t booked accommodation then I would do that soon. The only street I would avoid is Union street, it’s a bit scummy, the main entrance to central station can be quite busy. Like any major train station, you will see some homeless folks or some less desirable types Buchanan Street is the more higher end type stores for shopping, argyle street between Buchanan street and Queen street is fine, but gets a bit meh you head past queen street towards the tron gate area, near salt market. I would wander past saltmarket into the Carlton area. Sauchiehall street is fine, lots of shops near Buchanan Galleries. Candleriggs area in Glasgow has plenty of good bars and spots to eat. The west end is a nice spot, Kelvin Grove Park and some museums in that area. Ashton lane and areas near it have lots of nice places to eat and drink. Hope this helps and enjoy! by crazygoldfi5h (Mon 21st Aug 2023 10:47pm)

  • Miller & Carter. I went to the one in town. Thought the food was mediocre, didn’t think it deserved the great reputation when they hand you a buzzer. Place wasn’t that clean. The other let down was Ubiquitous Chip. Very over rated. Noisy as hell. Never again. by crazygoldfi5h (Thu 14th Sep 2023 7:16pm)

  • Understand you are in a stressful situation, but taken that attitude won’t get you help from internet strangers. Did you check the Lisa was shared? Ok you have given instruction, but if it didn’t get sent and solicitor was expecting you to take responsibility, then this might be on you. Unless you had a specific agreement with the solicitor to make sure they got the LISA by crazygoldfi5h (Fri 6th Oct 2023 12:54pm)
  • I’ve been in a situation where solicitor has fucked up and to be honest you are in a losing situation unless you have cast iron proof that they’ve fucked up. Getting into a heated fight with them on the working day before you move won’t win you any favours. Going on legal advice uk won’t give you any silver bullets that will instant fix this situation. The issue with delaying by two days is that I’m assuming there’s a chain, so tough getting all parties to agree the day before it happens. I would call back your solicitor and find out what options you have. by crazygoldfi5h (Fri 6th Oct 2023 12:50pm)

  • 70% of people on this sub think they are funny as fuck so ignore all the stupid comments. Glasgow is absolutely fine at night, common sense if an area looks rough then do you want to pick up food there? Glasgow city centre is fine, but the one way system is a complete pain in the ass to drive around. Where are you planning on staying / visiting ? Couple of tips. Don’t go into bus lanes, many of them have cameras and results in a fine. Absolutely do not drink and drive. The laws are quite strict here, a small amount of booze can land you in trouble. Most drivers are quite courteous, driving here is quite slow compared to most other places. RingGo app is quite good, just make sure you put the correct reference in, as you will get a parking ticket or car impounded for inputting the wrong street. If you prefer automatic, make sure you specify that in the rental, most cars here are stick shift. by crazygoldfi5h (Tue 21st Nov 2023 1:13pm)

  • Number of things you can doz Draft excluders on main door and rooms you normally use. Heavy curtains to help block drafts and keep heat in. Fix any gaps with sealant gel. Window and door foam tape to help seal them better. Get your heating system checked, if you have gas central heating, bleed the radiators and look into getting them flushed. If it’s electric heaters, then sorry they are shite. by crazygoldfi5h (Sun 3rd Dec 2023 11:32am)
