  • No. Phone them up and tell them you can't pay it, they'll set up a payment plan. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 19th Jan 2019 11:43am)
  • There are two other "entrances". [Corunna St](https://www.google.com/maps/@55.8643208,-4.2845287,189a,35y,39.01h/data=!3m1!1e3) and [St Vincent Crescent](https://www.google.com/maps/@55.8634058,-4.2846489,133a,35y,39.01h/data=!3m1!1e3) . Neither are exactly 'easy' but they're at least possible. But for the love of fuck, don't cross the active railway line. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 21st Jan 2019 8:45am)
  • Now go climb it and take a photo of your flat, it's only fair. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 21st Jan 2019 1:41pm)
  • Yea, it's dead obvious (up an embankment?) and they're only at the very southern end of the second tunnel. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 21st Jan 2019 3:18pm)
  • Folk saying somebody fell on the line. Which is quite frankly, rough as fuck. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 21st Jan 2019 5:51pm)
  • Can’t say with certainty which afters are on this weekend. Guys usually hand out addresses around when Sub Club closes. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 22nd Jan 2019 7:42pm)
  • I wonder what the solution from the dog owners perspective is. Normally you would expect howling/barking behaviour to reduce over time as the dog realises it's ineffective. Training would require literally standing outside the door then reentering and immediately disciplining every time it begins to howl, a few sessions of that every day for a week may even be enough. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 2nd Feb 2019 8:08pm)
  • Aye, what are Scottish Water doing with water management? This really detracts from ma idea to build an underwater Atlantis for the homeless, the jakies might develop gills and be reclaimed by the sea, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. by frenchthehaggis (Fri 22nd Feb 2019 8:07pm)
  • Literally anything can get you knocked back if a bouncer's bored enough (lookin at you, Garage). There's nothing exceptional about a hand tattoo. by frenchthehaggis (Sun 3rd Mar 2019 1:21pm)
  • In all seriousness. It's unreasonable to knock someone back for a tattoo (as long as it's not overtly offensive) and any club that would knock you back is probably shite anyway. Where you thinking of going? by frenchthehaggis (Sun 3rd Mar 2019 1:29pm)
  • Bread Meats Bread and Steak, Cattle & Roll both do really good vegan options and are both on Ubereats. (BMB's B12 burger is especially good) by frenchthehaggis (Wed 13th Mar 2019 10:34pm)
  • How many beds? What kind of flat? How long you hoping to stay there? Anywhere near an underground stop is <20 mins from Glasgow uni. [This site](http://simd.scot/2016/#/simd2016/BTTTFTT/9/-4.0000/55.9000/) maps how 'deprived' every area of Glasgow is. You're not going to get a flat just of Byres Road with that money but you can live somewhere that has a dodgier reputation but good shop access and nicer flats like Cessnock or Partick. by frenchthehaggis (Thu 21st Mar 2019 9:17pm)
  • It's not really as bad as it looks, more a reflection of how wealthy the locals are. For your budget you probably wont get anything better than orange. Your best bet is somewhere like Cessnock, which is nice and close to all the amenities on Paisley Road but still reasonably quiet (and is on the "improving but not actually gentrified" side of the spectrum.) by frenchthehaggis (Thu 21st Mar 2019 10:02pm)
  • Last night the polis went out their way to shut down the Weirdo Warehouse party at Lunacy. Absolute madness, hundreds of folk off their tits forced into the cold and told to somehow find their way home. Trading the safety of having all the swedgers in a monitored space with bouncers and bottles of water, for the non-safety of dispersing them all into the streets of the south side. by frenchthehaggis (Sun 24th Mar 2019 6:31am)
  • They turned up 1:30 and stopped anyone else entering. Shut the whole thing down by 3. by frenchthehaggis (Sun 24th Mar 2019 2:27pm)
  • “Fire safety” was the reason I heard. If you want to put your tinfoil hat on, these after-parties are on every weekend and don’t get shut down; Weirdo Warehouse is specifically aimed at queer people and barely lasted 3 hours before it was stopped. by frenchthehaggis (Sun 24th Mar 2019 8:11pm)
  • You could patch sitting in city centre traffic and start using the subway park and ride, Shields Road is just off the M8 and about 10 minutes ride to the city centre. [28 days park & ride is £100](http://www.spt.co.uk/subway/tickets/) or £5.40 a day. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 30th Mar 2019 7:36pm)
  • Landlords would rather see their properties empty than let out at reasonable rates. [175k a year](https://www.zoopla.co.uk/to-rent/commercial/details/49973538?search_identifier=219a4c2fede2406da88c935b3667691a) is fucking ludicrous, small independent businesses can't touch it. The grand fucking irony is that the more empty stores are on the street, the less people shop there and the less valuable the property, but the landlords don't give a fuck, they just want their money now. by frenchthehaggis (Fri 5th Apr 2019 5:27pm)
  • £700+ a month for a bedroom is well above market rates and the only people who seem to pay it are foreign students in private student halls. You can get a large 1 bedroom flat in the West end for that, a three bedroom flat in various areas <20 mins subway/bus ride away or a big bedroom in a flatshare 5 mins from the uni for < £500 by frenchthehaggis (Thu 2nd May 2019 7:02pm)
  • Their just somewhere you can casually hang out with pals, eat reasonably good desserts and not have to deal with trying to chat in a rammed Glasgow pub on a weekend. They seem mostly full of teenagers during the day, then absolutely smashed folk taking a breather from the pub at night (I'm sure there's a few open until 4am). by frenchthehaggis (Mon 13th May 2019 1:39am)
  • 100% agree. It's £2 for two of Iceland's own version, and you can also grab the meatballs, sausages and chicken pieces which are all great as well. by frenchthehaggis (Thu 16th May 2019 1:03pm)
  • I'm at a loss here about what we can do about this. Parks are there to be used, and when they're rammed even a small percentage of people leaving waste makes it a fucking tip. Police are too busy pulling people for open containers rather than for littering. Genuinely think it would be better if Kelvingrove was a designated drinking area, then the focus can shift from watching for drinking, to littering. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 25th May 2019 8:40pm)
  • Uni is more than just a degree as well, it's a chance to try new things and live a free life before you get shackled to a job. Saying that, if CompSci is your passion, you don't necessarily need a a degree anymore. There's apprenticeship [options available](https://apprenticeships.qa.com/vacancy-search#vacancyform), though your salary will start a fraction of a 4-year degree holder. You can also go to City of Glasgow college for the first two years (from my experience, the college workload for comp is only 18 hours contact a week, plenty of time for a job) and then do the final two at GCU. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 25th May 2019 9:01pm)
  • Just go to GCU and smash it then, you'll love it. Try join a couple of clubs, they're a must for meeting new people if you stay at home. Once you get the rhythm you'll probably find out there's no need to change uni later; most Strath, GU and GCU CS grads end up in similar jobs anyway (the whole inter-uni smugness is mostly a load of bollocks). If you're hot shit though, you can go get a masters from a 'better' uni and get a top tier job. What's your CS knowledge like just now? You'll probably find the first year is very straightforward, and holding a job at the same time won't be too straining. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 25th May 2019 9:16pm)
  • It's not a front garden, it's a park separated by a road, where the 'houses' are predominately offices. Green spaces are for the people, not for businesses and the wealthy. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 4th Jun 2019 1:40pm)
  • Imagine being fine with the rich fencing off a part of your city because they don't want poor people to use it. You sound like a right bootlicker. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 4th Jun 2019 1:54pm)
  • Yes, houses and parks owned by businesses are exactly the same. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 4th Jun 2019 2:17pm)
  • I don't think a private entity should be allowed to own such a large/open green space in the centre of the city, just so they can set a price barrier to using it. When it was a residential area it actually was open to the public, but as more businesses moved in they opted to make it closed. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 4th Jun 2019 2:23pm)
  • This is one of the only large open green spaces in the city centre, I don't think a private enterprise should be allowed to put a fence in and deny it to anyone. If they don't want to maintain it, sell it on to GCC. When it was a predominately residential area they kept it open to be used, it's the businesses wanting to cut costs locking the gates. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 4th Jun 2019 2:27pm)
  • You can put a fence around Glasgow Green and call it your garden, it doesn't make it right. In a city with incredibly poor air quality and few green spaces in the city centre, letting some companies keep one as a private space so a hand full of workers can use it for lunch every so often is wrong. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 4th Jun 2019 2:45pm)
  • Shutting them down just becomes a game of wack-a-mole. They fill a hole in the licencing laws, there's always gonna be folk who want to keep it going all night, and since we don't have German style legal raves these places are the closest we get. Better to know where the swedgers are and that they have some sort of staffing looking out for them than taking dodgy risks to try have a good night. by frenchthehaggis (Sun 23rd Jun 2019 4:32pm)
  • There's this tipping point every band's after, where the crowd stops being people you personally know/invite and starts being strangers, most bands will never get it, unless they're playing free gigs or covers in local pubs. If you're wanting to just play in front of actual strangers I've always been a huge fan of The Box. You won't make a penny (Unless you put out a tip jar) but you'll get to actually perform live to a crowd (varies wildly how large) and not have to worry about dragging in friends. DF can also be good once you get on their 'list' for support acts, but you need to play a regular gig their first and agree to a few shiters to stay on the list. by frenchthehaggis (Fri 12th Jul 2019 4:13pm)
  • The rainforests aren't cut down for paper, they're cut down for animal agriculture. Thinking paper usage is linked to climate change is bollocks to deflect from the real causes. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 15th Jul 2019 3:18pm)
  • What's your benchmark here? Which shops have you tried? There's still a premium on zero waste as the shops are usually independently owned and have a focus on organic locally sourced produce so as to have a broader market for each item. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 29th Jul 2019 4:15pm)
  • Scotland has fairly good laws to protect Tennants so even a bad landlord is not as bad as other places. You can easily afford a nice 2 bedroom flat close to the uni. Rightmove -> Glasgow West End. The trick is to be quick, if you see and flat and like it you need to try sign for it that day. (Most letting agents require a viewing) by frenchthehaggis (Tue 6th Aug 2019 12:07am)

SpareRoom is the best site for this stuff just now. The key term's "Short Term Let", they're usually pretty scarce unless it's summer and the students are letting out rooms. by frenchthehaggis (Sun 18th Aug 2019 4:42pm)
  • Partick's an okay mix, massive new private student blocks have packed in a tone more students recently so during term time it's mostly students. There's loads of good pubs (Lismore & Deoch An Dorus especially) but they all shut midnight. The nearest nightclubs are Sanctuary (shite) and GU Hive (young students, only busy on Thursday's). What kind of scene you looking for? Gonna join some societies at uni? by frenchthehaggis (Wed 21st Aug 2019 3:05pm)
  • Is that meant to be the winter gardens? Surely we have a more iconic building to use than that. by frenchthehaggis (Thu 22nd Aug 2019 11:31pm)
  • Just the beef - any chippy. The whole thing I've never seen, but some decent chippys will deep-fry anything you suggest just for shits and giggles. by frenchthehaggis (Fri 23rd Aug 2019 10:06am)
  • Contact the council and tell them you've seen rats. Anything else will take weeks. Bins are a fucking state in flats all over the city. Renters have no incentive to clean them up, landlords think it's not their problem, factors don't give a fuck and the council doesn't remotely have the capacity to clean them all up. by frenchthehaggis (Wed 28th Aug 2019 1:01pm)
  • Buff Club might be a shout, should be a decent number of people there but not rammed like Firewater. You can usually pick up free entry passes on the corner nearby as well. by frenchthehaggis (Thu 29th Aug 2019 7:25pm)
  • Don't take it personally, this sub thrives on unhelpful sarcastic responses, especially when they get a reaction. Glasgow is a vegan friendly city, but the focus is 99% on planted based food. I've never even heard of a Glasgow hotel making informed decisions on not using leather furniture or woolen fabrics. by frenchthehaggis (Wed 4th Sep 2019 3:19pm)
  • [These folks](https://www.selectivepersonnel.co.uk/apply-for-a-job) are hiring, hospitality work but your shifts are entirely your choice, really popular amongst students who're looking for extra money to get by. Minimum wage work but the shifts are decent, worked Scotland v France last month and they bussed us from Glasgow to Murrayfield, paid £95 for the days work. by frenchthehaggis (Thu 5th Sep 2019 6:43pm)
  • Yea, imagine people giving a fuck about the planet. What a bunch of weirdos. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 10th Sep 2019 9:38pm)
  • The biggest international summit to be held in Scotland since the G8 in 05. Climate scientists, heads of state, diplomats, oil companies and every able environmentalist from around Europe is going to descend. It's going to be (and rightly should be) fucking chaos. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 10th Sep 2019 9:46pm)
  • Sorry to break it to you mate, but as it stands we're absolutely fucked. Those folk blocking roads brought more attention to the seriousness of the problem than any peaceful process could have. Having yer wee commute delayed by a few minutes is fuck all compared to the outcomes we're heading towards. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 10th Sep 2019 9:56pm)
  • Mate, you've got a problem. Get your heid checked. You think yer all edgy and free thinking unlike them SJWs but you just seem like a sad wee man getting worked up at people trying to make the world better. by frenchthehaggis (Wed 11th Sep 2019 3:05am)
  • Naw really their fault, if the pubs license doesn't allow under 18's and they're found to have one in there, they're personally liable. by frenchthehaggis (Thu 12th Sep 2019 2:03pm)
  • There's two letters. The SLC payment schedule and the SAAS award letter, the dates should be the same but you can find the bursary dates on the award letter (available when you log in) by frenchthehaggis (Sat 14th Sep 2019 7:07pm)
  • Scotstoun is the nearest proper running track. Nicest run in the west end is along the Kelvin, the terrain changes as you get towards Maryhill so it's not all solid pavement. by frenchthehaggis (Thu 19th Sep 2019 5:33pm)
  • CCA great for art focused events. If your an environmentalist, Extinction Rebellion has a big presence in Glasgow, including groups focused on arts and music. Very friendly and welcoming to newcomers. Project Cafe also has a variety of events. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 23rd Sep 2019 12:57pm)
  • [Centre for Contemporary Arts.](https://www.cca-glasgow.com/programme) The main arts hub in the city, lots of weird and wonderful events. Also has a really excellent pub and cafe. You can see the variety of the programme there, some things are more fringe and others more approachable. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 23rd Sep 2019 6:40pm)

  • At bulk the prices drop fast. 25 is about £70 on the dark web. Ever consider how ludicrously cheap eccies are? Sorted for a night out on just a tenner. by frenchthehaggis (Thu 26th Sep 2019 12:37am)
  • Email or tweet your local councillors, just say there's none in reasonable walking distance. Your building can't get a purple bin but there's a reasonable chance they can get you a community recycling point. by frenchthehaggis (Thu 26th Sep 2019 12:42am)
  • It can be anywhere from £250 in an area like Ibrox, to £600 in an overly fancy private student halls. 3-400 in the areas near the uni is quite reasonable. SpareRoom is your best bet by frenchthehaggis (Sat 28th Sep 2019 10:59am)
  • How can a review be so long but say fuck all? Doesn't bode well when one of your ringing endorsements is "The merch table is good" by frenchthehaggis (Sun 29th Sep 2019 8:34am)
  • Looking at the fixtures, there's not any particuarly notable home games against SPF teams coming up soon. Saying that, Celtic have their redemption match against Cluj on Thursday, last game was a 7 goal shitfest. But any home game for either old firm should have decent atmosphere, so just pick one. If you're at Glasgow uni you can also just pop along and watch Partick Thistle. by frenchthehaggis (Sun 29th Sep 2019 11:50pm)
  • Both, student tickets are a fiver cheaper. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 30th Sep 2019 4:04pm)

  • Never seen this building before in my life officer by frenchthehaggis (Mon 28th Oct 2019 9:10pm)
  • Those places are privately owned, the issue isn't that no businesses want to fill them, the issue is that they are a fucking fortune. [Here's](https://www.montagu-evans.co.uk/assets/IRD/PDF/Sauchiehall.pdf) a property listing, the total rents of Greggs, The Works and Specsavers is £392,500. The kind of obvious answer is small independent businesses would be amazing (imagine someone like Locavore getting a city centre spot) but it's a much bigger problem of who actually owns parts of the street. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 29th Oct 2019 2:17pm)
  • Depends on your school of thought. For me: * Compulsory purchases of vacant lots. You use it or lose it. * Quotas on usage. Limiting the number of tat shops and high street chains. * Publicly owned spaces rented to local independent businesses at affordable rates. Brands should compete to be in their space, not the other way around. High street brands are diminishing but building owners still hold out for massive rent cheques. Commercial properties are held as investments rather than to provide a service, at the detriment to the people who actually use the area. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 29th Oct 2019 7:18pm)
  • Monday's the day of rest mate. Howlin Wolf and The Box both have live music on Mondays (your mileage may vary with the latter). Club wise, Buff Club was the old trade night so it's one of the few open on a Monday. Yer best bet is to head up to Sauchiehall Street, jump into Nice N Sleazy, Broadcast, Box or anywhere, see how it takes you, jump to the next one if need be. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 4th Nov 2019 5:23pm)
  • I've been about 30-40 times this year. It's not my scene anymore, but I was a wee emo kid back in the day so it's a good wee nostalgia trip. Would frankly rather be at Subby, but it's where my pals like and it's homely as fuck. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 12th Nov 2019 12:41am)
  • [https://www.spareroom.co.uk/](https://www.spareroom.com/) for flatshares. [https://www.rightmove.co.uk/](https://www.rightmove.co.uk/) to get a flat for yourselves, most student flats require UK based guarantors. [https://www.gumtree.com/](https://www.gumtree.com/) for a combination. [https://simd.scot/](https://simd.scot/) gives you a idea of how rough an area is. by frenchthehaggis (Wed 13th Nov 2019 9:07pm)
  • Anywhere near a Subway station is <15mins to the uni. Most students stay in the 'West End', generally, the closer to the uni the more expensive it is through there. You could live on the doorstep in [Hillhead](https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-75004447.html) (<5min walk), drift out a bit to somewhere like [Partick](https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-75088933.html) (10-20min walk), drift out even a bit further to somewhere like [Kelvindale](https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-66193041.html) (30min walk). Those are fairly decent examples, granted the price can vary a couple of hundred pound by quality. by frenchthehaggis (Thu 14th Nov 2019 2:48pm)
  • DELETED They also replace the life belts, folk on a Saturday night think it's hilarious to Chuck them into the river or cut the ropes off. by frenchthehaggis (Sun 17th Nov 2019 11:34am)
  • Meh. They're for different things. Wee city subs like this are just for local questions, discussions and the odd bit of news. National subs are always gonna focus heavily on politics or the same 6 tourist photos. And the fact is, reddit skews younger and most under 30s are Indy supporters. This place just feels more authentic because we're talking about more everyday shite. by frenchthehaggis (Wed 20th Nov 2019 2:06am)
  • The short version: SNP were originally going ahead with reforms to the Gender Recognition Act (GRA) but high profile members like Joanna Cherry & Joan McAlpine pushed back hard, with unfounded claims of it putting CIS women in danger. The party caved and shelved the reforms. Feminist and LGBT groups have heavily criticised the use of women's issues to suppress trans people, comparing it to misinformation on gay people in the 20th century. These high profile figures now continuously push narratives about the dangers of trans people without any form of reprise from the party, Neal Hanvey, who was eventually booted for anti-antisemitism had actually been tweeting implying trans women to be paedophiles, this was not deemed an issue by the party. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 10th Dec 2019 4:48pm)
  • It's a lot more complicated than a box on a website, actually getting your gender legally changed is a long and difficult process. Here's one portion: " As part of the process of acquiring a Gender Recognition Certificate, trans people are required to first receive a mental health diagnosis of gender dysphoria – despite the fact it [has not been considered a mental illness](http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/+/http://www.dca.gov.uk/constitution/transsex/policy.htm) under UK government policy since 2002, and the World Health Organisation [has also declassified it](https://thinkprogress.org/world-health-organization-transgender-mental-disorder-dd8f92a42c50/). " by frenchthehaggis (Tue 10th Dec 2019 5:45pm)
  • Westminster elections frankly cost a fucking fortune. £500 deposits (most countries don't even have these) and leaflet costs alone are bad enough, but combine that with admin time to handle expense reports and general paperwork, it's just not worth it in a FPTP election. So, generally it's better to have less target seats and your activists can just focus on those. Hopefully in 2021 they'll be a Green standing in every Glasgow seat. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 10th Dec 2019 6:59pm)

  • That bit used to be open before the wall caved in. But there is a bit that really is fenced off for no reason beyond that. They even put steps from the squinty bridge down to the path but put a fence in after residents complained, so you can't walk Quay > Science centre without a massive detour. Used to live there, the residents association were stuck up cunts. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 28th Dec 2019 6:08pm)
  • Who literally paid for it, I don't know. But it was installed onto the existing railings of the bridge, closing off the local gov built stairs. It's only small mind, so if you're fairly sprightly you can get over it, it mainly just blocks those with restricted mobility. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 28th Dec 2019 8:11pm)

  • Dipping into the spreadsheets, housing is measured on * Number of people in households that are overcrowded * Number of people in households without central heating * Percentage of people in households that are overcrowded * Percentage of people in households without central heating You can look yourself and figure out where the number came from, looking at my own street, it has 34% overcrowded, though I have no idea what that actually means. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 28th Jan 2020 6:07pm)
  • Kilbowie felt ancient when I was last there 9 year ago (S5 math camp, aye that's a thing) but surely they can't get rid of it without a proper replacement first. And none of this "Strathclyde park" pish, half the point is that it wasn't in NL, for some of the poorest kids in primary school it was a rare occasion to get out of the central belt and actually see their country. by frenchthehaggis (Sun 2nd Feb 2020 2:04pm)
  • I'd love that wee ferry to still kick about but do Govan to town or something, just for the novelty value of pottering about on the Clyde. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 8th Feb 2020 2:55pm)
  • So **Dram n Jam** on meetup is ideal for beginners, they put up chord sheets on a screen and everyone plays along, it's usually simplified chords and songs you'll know. While it is in a pub there's so many of you that there's 0 chance anyone will actually hear what you're playing. Most folk there are 40+ and a lot are fairly new to their instruments. by frenchthehaggis (Fri 14th Feb 2020 4:31pm)
  • By their nature Subby etc. can be quite intense. Buff is our middle ground club, totally unoffensive, not too spicy, just busy enough and plays alright tunes. Sleazy's has been rammed the last few times I've been in as well, think they've scooped up the Art School folks. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 18th Feb 2020 5:34pm)

  • Actually had a wee glamping holiday a few years back, just me and the burd at the time. Site was three yurts on a farm, each yurt had a big double bed, log burner and a wee cooking stove. Lovely wee place. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 23rd Mar 2020 11:52pm)
  • It came up in Holyrood the other day but there's not really a plan for what happens to all the students who usually work over summer, when SAAS ends next month. • All private student halls are over market value for rent. Xenia is one of the less terrible options if you're set on halls style accommodation, but then, why not just stay in uni accommodation? by frenchthehaggis (Wed 8th Apr 2020 2:01pm)
  • Shout out to the person who told me last week "Scotland isn't racist". The protest tonight had nothing to do with BLM or statues, it was on housing conditions for asylum seekers by frenchthehaggis (Wed 17th Jun 2020 6:25pm)

  • Yea, look at these socially distanced mask wearing people exercising better practices than whoever the fucks in Kelvingrove right now. What bastards. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 20th Jun 2020 12:15pm)
  • The impact of a 90 minute protest that enforces masks and is mostly socially distanced is minimal. It's not a BBQ or a pint, nothing swapping hands, no food/drinks ingested. It's not ideal to protest just now. But it's also not ideal to let bigots think they can go unchallenged. History shows when far right groups go unchallenged they become emboldened (see: hate crime stats post Brexit) . by frenchthehaggis (Sat 20th Jun 2020 12:50pm)
  • The obstacles on the north-west side were added a couple of years ago at the suggestion of Clan Skates. Still a street spot but a purpose built one. There's often folks around skating the obstacles, but it's fairly quiet round the back and other side. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 30th Jun 2020 8:35pm)
  • What is it you're looking to do? Different answer if you're looking for somewhere to land a BS tailslide bigspin vs learn to ollie. If yer a beginner, the Riverside really is the best spot. The path to the SEC is also perfect for cruising. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 30th Jun 2020 8:42pm)
  • If you want something nice and simple head over to the Govan Graving docks and have a poke around, fence is open on the west side. by frenchthehaggis (Sun 16th Aug 2020 5:09pm)
  • For context. Living Rent is a tenancy union that uses collective action and local campaigning to push for change on the local level. Last year they targeted problem waste in Govanhill by using volunteers to clean up peoples gardens then dumping the waste at the gates of Queen's Park (though I believe they took it away later?) by frenchthehaggis (Mon 15th Feb 2021 2:38pm)
  • What kind of door is it? Does the entry work with big magnets that hold the door closed or is it the kind where buzzing people in unlocks the door catch in the frame? For the latter the common issue is that the latch doesn't click into the strike plate consistently (the give away is that if you give the door an extra shove it will lock), a handyman with a drill could fix that. If not the above, just ring a locksmith to ask if they can fix it and get a quote over the phone. by frenchthehaggis (Fri 2nd Apr 2021 3:28pm)
  • [Here's a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcWRcbK4Ra4) of a guy fixing his inside door to give you an idea of what the problem looks like. (this could look a bunch of different ways, but basic principle is latch doesn't line up correctly, something needs budged to make it work) Either they need to adjust the strike plate like in the video (in our last flat we just had to move it back a couple of mm) or if the door is sagging they can add new hinges. by frenchthehaggis (Fri 2nd Apr 2021 4:59pm)

  • These are standard in European cities, they're covered bike racks so you lock your bike up twice. They don't make your bike unstealable but they add a big enough layer of annoyance to dissuade most bike thieves. Glasgow's not some warzone, the shelters will do fine. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 17th May 2021 8:15pm)
  • That's a bit involved for bike theft, why go to the bother when you can steal the ones not in shelters? Especially when any reasonable person will slap a big fucking D-lock on their bike in the shelter by frenchthehaggis (Mon 17th May 2021 9:08pm)
  • The site was derelict to 40 years, any planning board that lets a company profit off it are crooks. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 19th Jun 2021 10:44pm)
  • Hello neighbour. It's fair to say there's been [one](https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/15213046.sword-wielding-thug-in-stand-off-with-police-in-cessnock/) or [two](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/thug-filmed-attacking-woman-tree-16208497) wee incidents in the last few years. But I honestly think Cessnock is one of the best places to live in Glasgow just now, you get easy access to the West-End and City Centre, without the rent/house prices being pure robbery. Folk do get a little spooked by matchdays but there's less than 1 a week and the fans mostly just travel straight down Paisley Road West. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 14th Aug 2021 12:43pm)
  • Folk will encounter a dangerous driver in a car and think nothing of it but have the odd near miss with a bike and hate cyclists for life. Glasgow, like most places just doesn't get cycling. Bikes shouldn't have to outpace cars at lights, and they shouldn't ever feel the need to mount the pavement to stay safe. Part of the reason cycling in the Netherlands is so safe is they [plan travel routes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1l75QqRR48) so that bikes, pedestrians and cars stay seperated. by frenchthehaggis (Thu 14th Oct 2021 2:09pm)
  • Spot on. All universities and colleges offer some form of government backed financial support. For discretionary funds it's required that you have already maxed out your entitlement from SAAS, funds are not given for specific reasons like housing but you'll be asked to prove your outgoings vs incoming revenue and be compensated the difference (within reason). But £1000 isn't just a bit high, it's double what a standard student would be paying in rent to live in the West End. by frenchthehaggis (Sat 22nd Jan 2022 5:46pm)
  • You don't have to be honest about how long you are going to stay there. You can say you're planning to stay for years but put a notice in any time you want. Even if a listing says minimum 6 months or a year, this is not legally binding. by frenchthehaggis (Mon 11th Apr 2022 9:36am)

  • How would someone inspecting a flat be able to tell if an extra person isn't just staying the night or temporarily? You should contact [shelter](https://scotland.shelter.org.uk/about_us/contact_us) and ask them about someone's partner moving into a HMO flat. As you could probably sign the lease, move in and then inform them soon after that someone's partner is moving in. by frenchthehaggis (Tue 12th Apr 2022 10:15pm)
