A loaded double decker will weigh in the region of 11 tonnes. A standard 4x2 gritter can weigh on the region of 18 tonnes when loaded. These are also generally smaller than a double decker bus and have less available space to mount batteries etc compared to a bus.

Unfortunately they are still liable for the repairs to any cars they hit, even if the cars are parked in the way by their arsehole owners. Also, doing this would then put the appliance out of service while it's away getting repaired afterwards.

Behave yourself you clown. If your issue is with the people of England, you need to have a word with yourself. The issue is with Westminster, their ineptitude and their attitude towards Scotland its people.

See instead of making a sweeping generalisation about an entire nation, you could also realise the the English voted for who they wanted and got what they wanted. We were not so fortunate. The situation highlights the fact that the wants and needs of Scotland and England are very different and that something has to change. This can be used to argue in favour of another independence referendum instead of being used to denigrate an entire country and its people.

The reasons behind their decision are irrelevant and you're tarring everyone with the same brush which is narrow minded and pretty hypocritical on your behalf. You're coming across as anti-English, not anti-Westminster. Yours is the attitude that will do absolutely nothing positive to help the campaign for a second referendum.

They have the right to vote for who they want. Just as you do. >I’m anti-Tory As am I. >and anti working class Tory voter. That just makes you sound like a fuckwit. Bleating on about Tory voters will do nothing apart from wind you up while also achieving nothing productive.

If you think that having a tory government voted in despite the best efforts of the Scottish electorate is a new thing, I've got some terrible, awful news for you. You might want to sit down.... The fact it, the if every single eligible voter in Scotland voted SNP, it still wouldn't be enough to stop the current shitshow. Despite the horrific outcome, the silver lining is that we now have pretty good representation by SNP MPs in Westminster. It's not all that far off being as good as it can possibly get given the circumstances. With this in mind, it means that more pressure can be applied to get a second referendum on the go. The people of England made their decision and so be it. Let them hang as they grow. Instead of bitchng and moaning, the focus should be on getting the independence referendum passed as the differences between the wants and needs of each country are stark and its becoming clearer that it will only diverge further.

And, if you recall (or perhaps you're conveniently forgetting) that a major part of the argument by the No brigade was that a vote to leave the UK was also a vote to leave the EU. A large number of people wanted to stay within the EU and thus voted No. Skip ahead a few years and Scotland is in the process of being dragged out of the EU anyway, against the will of most of the electorate. Now that there has been such a massive change in the political outlook for the country, do you really, honestly think it would be unreasonable for there to be another referendum on Scottish independence from the UK? I'm not asking if you think we should leave or not, I'm just asking if it's unreasonable to ask the citizens of Scotland the question again given the magnitude of change since the last one. Isn't that how democracy works?

Fair point well made. One thing, you mentioned that the decisions by the Scottish electorate have led to us getting a tory government. Can you expand on this? (Not being a dick BTW, genuinely curious). I just ask because as far as I can make out, no matter what the electorate did, it would have had no decisive influence on the end result of the tories getting a majority.

You're absolutely right. [I called this a few months back](https://www.reddit.com/r/Scotland/comments/cnzplv/snp_mp_in_talks_over_tunnel_links_to_replace/ewlbvsx). The yard is a disgrace and isn't even remotely fit for purpose. The best thing they could do (or should have done in the first place) is go back to Remontowa and order 3 copies of the Finlaggan with modifications for specific routes and lessons learned after running the Finlaggan for a few years now. Instead of the short lived and hair-brained blended fuel system, set them up for running in MGO with the possibility of converting to dual LNG/MGO operations in the future. The problem now is that the government have found themselves in possession of a white elephant. They own a ship yard but that yard is incapable of building ships. That crook McColl has got all he can from the deal, feathered his own nest and left behind two rusting hulks and no means of finishing them.

How many of the independence marches had numerous routes (not just streets) closed for the entire day rather than one route for a few hours at lunchtime? How many assaults and arrests occurred between the two groups? Which group looks towards a progressive future and which group celebrates a violent past? In your own time, *Sherlock*.

> You can't just have a re do cos things change every few years. Given the scale of the change is more akin to a seismic shift in the political scene then yes, yes you can have a other referendum. That's the beauty of this thing called democracy. Like it or lump it, that's how it works. Why not support another referendum? Are you scared that Yes wins this time?

That's a pretty poor argument for not having one. In fact, it's a shite argument. Let's not bother because you can't be arsed. Oil prices rise and fall, they have done since the start and they will continue to do so. It's very much a boom and bust industry. I've worked in it for 14 years directly and a further 3 indirectly. Regardless of what the price does for a year or 3, it's an extremely valuable asset to have in the long term. Moreso when you consider the massive untapped reserves west of Shetland and in the Clyde estuary.
by
B479MSS
(Sun 12th Jan 2020 10:24am)
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the No campaign maintained that a vote to leave would also be a vote to leave the EU. This swung a lot of people as remaining in Europe was more important to them than gaining independence. Now the political landscape has undergone a seismic change. A change so significant that many feel that another referendum on independence is more than merited. Additionally, the SNP gaining so many seats in Westminster and now representing the majority of the regions in Scotland always stated in their manifesto that they would fight for another referendum. The fact that they have been voted in with such huge numbers shows that there is a mandate for another referendum. All that is being asked is for the opportunity to be asked again. That's democracy and if the majority of people want self determination following the developments after the last referendum then there is even more of a reason to hold another referendum. To deny it is undemocratic.

(Fri 27th Mar 2020 11:13am)
It's a resource that's there to be used. The country is facing the biggest national health crisis in living memory. It's going to bring the NHS to its knees and thousands will die. Fuckwits ignoring the advice on staying away from each other are only going to make the situation worse. So why not use the helicopter for this task of there's nothing more pressing for it to do?
by
B479MSS
(Fri 27th Mar 2020 11:22am)
Maybe so but it's still better than meeting and travelling out in public which has been heavily discouraged. The helicopter is a good asset in that it's highly visible and its presence can be made obvious which can help deter folk from congregating in public. The cost isn't the issue given the colossal costs already brought about due to this outbreak. If there are no more pressing incidents that require the air units presence, I'd say it was a good use of the asset.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 27th Mar 2020 11:35am)
So having ground units just drive about aimlessly is a much better use of resources? Your reasoning of money being better spent on ventilators is moot. It's an asset and a resource that's already available and effective in its implementation and use. The money is already tied up in the asset and the support facilities. By your reasoning, it would be better to sell it all off and spend the money on a method of cure, instead of using the asset as-is for prevention.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 27th Mar 2020 11:43am)
It's much more cost effective than having already overstretched ground units wandering about randomly in the hope of finding folk being stupid. The air unit can spot these people easily and quickly and then vector in ground units directly before it moves on to something else. It's saving time and increasing efficiency. Given the magnitude of the current situation I don't think it's an over the top approach.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 27th Mar 2020 11:40am)
It's not about the money. It's about the message that thick cunts need to stop congregating. The financial implications mean nothing at this point.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 27th Mar 2020 11:46am)
Increase fines for people who can't pay them? OK. Like I said, the financial implications of this mean nothing at this point. Do ground units have some sort of magical sixth sense that allows them to home in on crowds? Didn't think so. The helicopter is up most days anyway. It would have spent no more than a few minutes monitoring and calling this in. Its not like it spent all day following 4 people about for hours. People are getting really worked up about getting a small insight into the daily workings of the police and their equipment/assets. Proof positive that a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 27th Mar 2020 11:53am)
It was likely doing more than just looking at those 4 people. As I said, if the asset is deployed anyway, why not use it for that task until a more pressing need presents itself?
by
B479MSS
(Fri 27th Mar 2020 12:04pm)

(Fri 27th Mar 2020 12:09pm)
The counter argument is how many people are they coming into contact with on their way to and from the park? Intelligence has its limits but idiots know no bounds. With that in mind, all that can be done is attempt to limit these clowns as much as possible.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 27th Mar 2020 12:12pm)
What better way to make people who think that doing this kind of thing is acceptable, think again. It helps to get across just how serious the situation is. Some folk think it's just a laugh or that it's being done as an inconvenience. Maybe it'll discourage others from doing the same thing? The same way that traffic police are now stopping cars to see if their journey is essential.

The ship will be running an aerobic sewage treatment plant. As long as it's properly maintained and operated, the discharge from this will be harmless to the environment. As for emissions, the vessel will be running on ultra low sulphur marine gas oil (diesel). Having the ship laid-up on the Clyde will have no major or significant impact on the environment. While many are designed to burn heavy and intermediate/blended fuels at sea and outwith emission control areas, it won't be used as fuel while the vessel is on the Clyde.

They really haven't. I was pulled over by a arrogant wee turd who was accusing me of "racing up and down London road all night". He was sitting behind me all the way along so thinking I was going to get pulled, I drew in to the Shell garage on London Road and made like I was going to fuel up. He followed me in and was outside my car before I had my seat belt off. He assured me he had a complaint from a reliable witness (off duty officer) and that it was definitely my car that was spotted. The car I had at the time could not have been mistaken for any other and he was adamant it was me. I got all sorts of patronising lectures on safe driving and the threats of being charged with dangerous driving etc. When I pointed out that I could provide logged data via the standalone ECU data logging and the satnav history and dashcam footage, he then doubles down and tells me not to get smart with him. Tells me I'm lucky to get off with a warning and tells me to "take it easy going home, son". Son? Wee cunt was probably half my age. His buddy never stepped foot out the car. Pricks.

My wife grew up just off Duke Street and her dad still works in the area. Lots of flats have been turned into brothels with many illegally trafficked (mostly) young women passing through these flats. There have been two recent raids that I know of but I doubt this will change much in the area. Break-ins have increased massively too. From what her family are saying, it has risen since the flats to the south (Bluevale?) were taken down. How it's connected, I'm not sure. The last time I was there a few weeks ago, there was litter and dog shite everywhere on the pavements. I started visiting the area about 2001 and in that time there has been a marked decline in the area in more regards than there have been improvements.

You're just thinking about immediate fatalities. Do you have the first clue about long term chronic effects? What about the *fact* it impacts on many major bodily systems (nervous, cardiac, digestive, respiratory etc) and is showing signs that long lasting damage and functional impairment is looking like it will be common and widespread among those who have had the virus. We are just starting to see the first signs of long lasting, severe, chronic damage to the organs of those who had no underlying health conditions. Your attitude towards this virus is frighteningly dismissive and blasé and is typical of those who have not even scratched the surface when it comes to researching the latest findings on the effects of it on humans.

>we can deal with them when we come to them. That's exactly the type of lazy, piss-poor, uninterested attitude, typical to so many who haven't got the first clue as to the severity of the virus, that caused the whole country to be so badly impacted in the first place. Korea warned us, Italy warned us, Spain warned us, France warned us and not a single, effective measure was put in place until long after it was too late. Surely articles such as [this](https://www.forbes.com/sites/robertglatter/2020/08/17/covid-19-can-cause-heart-damageeven-if-you-are-asymptomatic/) and [this](https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/07/brain-fog-heart-damage-covid-19-s-lingering-problems-alarm-scientists) have made you consider that it's more than just a minor thing? >You don't need to be a medical professional to count the number of reported long term effects and divide by the number of people who have had the virus. Statistics are only useful when you are getting a true representative number to work with. The only give an overview too and do nothing to show what kinds of effects these positive cases will have on is as a society in 1, 5, 10+ years.

>We should have protected the elderly rather than preferentially infecting care homes. You genuinely believe care homes were preferentially infected? The elderly are the most vulnerable. Hence why it has taken such a toll on them. However, many have unknowingly had it and even when asymptomatic, they are stating to discover that the virus can cause untold damage to various bodily systems. >About 160 million people have had covid worldwide. The fact that a handful have developed strange complications in other organ systems doesn't convince me that's a serious issue, no. It's very early days. The fact that we are noticing the initial stages of widespread chronic aftereffects should have you pretty worried. You really don't seem to appreciate the severity of the situation. Either that or you'd be easier convinced that the earth is flat and that covid-19 is caused by 5g.
by
B479MSS
(Thu 3rd Sep 2020 10:26pm)
>What else do you call discharging positive cases into care homes? Whether intentional or not we definitely preferentially infected basically the only people we should have been trying to protect. It was in the care system and being spread before we knew it and by the time it was realised, it was too late. Those in there are at the highest risk and so it stands to reason that more were going to die. It's not that infection rates were all that much higher than elsewhere, it's just that it was more lethal to those living in those places. >Yes covid is new and we don't fully understand it but it's clear now that it basically doesn't kill anyone under 60 (and even for over 80s the IFR is a mere 1ish%) so we should turn our attention back to more pressing matters like ya know climate change which will kill everyone indiscriminately. Yes, climate change is important but it's still less less of an immediate threat compared to covid. >Can see that you're gripped by the mass hysteria and struggling to confront a dissenting point of view but there's no need to throw around insults. I'm not throwing around insults, I'm just at a loss to understand your blasé and lackadaisical view on this. You genuinely don't seem to realise the potential this has for enormous future impacts as we end up with a huge number of people chronically ill as a result of contracting the virus. I've had two close loved ones die from it and another two who have had it and pulled through. The two that pulled through are in their 20s and early 30s. While no longer infected, neither of them are back to anything like their fitness levels prior to contracting it, despite contracting it back in April. It's not hysteria when you've seen first-hand what it can do.

As soon as a card is reported as being in the possession of someone other than the owner, the bank is duty-bound to cancel the card as they have no way of knowing that the information on the card hasn't been copied. Sending out a new card is much easier than cleaning up after an account has been dipped.
by
B479MSS
(Thu 1st Oct 2020 1:13am)
You don't know if it has been or not. Therefore the best course of action is to cancel the card and that prevents any illegal use of it from that moment on. If suspicious transactions start making an appearance, there's a good chance the card details have been used. It's easier and cheaper to send out a new card than it is to investigate fraudulent use of a card.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 2nd Oct 2020 4:06pm)
You don't. That's why the banks often decline unusual transactions as a precaution. That's also why it's a good idea to keep an eye on what's coming and going from your account, so that if there is anything unusual, you can report it and have the card blocked as soon as possible.
by
B479MSS

You don't know for sure until money starts leaving your account without your authorisation. It's that simple.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 2nd Oct 2020 5:03pm)
So, if someone says they have your card, you have absolutely no way of knowing if they have copied the information with a view to using it later. The only way to prevent that from happening is to cancel the card and get a new one. Look at it this way, if some random got in contact with you and said "I found a bit of paper with your email address and password on it". Would you change your password? The same applies to your bank card details. Someone has had unintended access to that information. How many others may also have seen it? The information in potentially compromised from the moment you lose the card and someone else sees it. There's nothing dumb about it, it's common sense.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 2nd Oct 2020 6:27pm)
It's not a straw man. It's a simple analogy to try and get you to grasp this painfully simple concept. If I find your card, I can copy details such as the 16 digit number, issue date, expiry date, CCV, issue number, name as printed on the card. All things needed to get access to the funds in that account. Would you be happy knowing that those things could have been noted down by an unknown person?

Thing is, some of them are really, *really* well kept with litter being almost non-existent. Helsinki, Gothenberg, Hamburg and Bergen spring to mind straight away. So many folk here just don't care and, combined with very little effort from the council, it shows as the city is an absolute tip with litter.

I stated that those arsehole lowlife bigots who dress in silly costumes and are big fans of some long-dead dutch guy have a proclivity for voting tory. If that's incorrect, please do tell me. You do realise that once independence is obtained, there will be further elections to establish who runs the country then. Independence does not mean eternal SNP rule. The SNP are a means to an end. I won't vote for them after we get independence.

Yes but that doesn't compare in any way to what you're saying. Decisions are made every day to extend treatment (or not) for people with preexisting conditions and chronic illness. We do not routinely decide to allow a non-essential insudtry to operate at the expense of lives given that they assist in the spread of a contagious and potentially fatal virus.
by
B479MSS
(Sat 31st Oct 2020 11:51am)
You're missing the point of limiting the spread. The point is to stop the NHS from collapsing altogether under the strain. Until such time as a vaccine is made available, that's going to be the priority. Other countries are already at the stage where they are asking hospital staff with covid to continue working. Some are stating that they are on the verge of full collapse. Given that so many treatments are currently suspended or delayed, it should give an idea of just how at risk the NHS is. Yes, hospitality is taking it tight right now but it's better than the alternative of the NHS buckling.

Are you prone to being easily led? Do you just accept whatever radio 4 tells you and whip yourself into a frothy, pearl clutching rage? Given that this virus is spread through aerosol/droplets expelled via respiration, and given that when singing, people expel saliva aerosol and droplets further and in higher quantities when shouting and singing, common sense (not sure if you've heard of that) dictates that a group of people singing together or shouting would be more susceptible to the spread of this virus. I don't care what the IFR is of the virus. The fact is it's killing thousands of people. Age, underlying health conditions, favourite outdoor activity, star sign or favourite spice girl, it doesn't really matter. It's killing those who otherwise may have had many, many years ahead of them. Then there's the long term effects to contend with too. It's early days but already there are signs of serious, chronic health issues affecting those who have had the virus. You don't care about that though as it doesn't affect you or your freedom. You just care about being trapped in the tiny 6'x6' cell that is Glasgow for a few weeks. How are you surviving?

The fact that there is evidence already of long lasting, major chronic effects is worrying. >It mainly exists in the minds of anxiousbois on the internet. Did Radio 4 tell you that? See above links and apply findings to your horseshit claim. >I had covid in march Bullshit. >and am hitting 5k PBs. I know about a dozen other people who've had it and everyone's fine and barely noticed. There's an anecdote to humanise the stats. Is it, aye? >We're sacrificing precious fundamental liberties on the alter of a hysterical overreaction to a mildly inconvenient respiratory illness. We are staying out the way for a relatively short while to ensure the vulnerable in our society are kept as safe as possible. Additionally, limiting the spread ensures that the NHS is not swamped to the point whereby it struggles to treat others in need such as car crash victims, birthing mothers in distress, heart attacks, strokes and other urgent care cases. Or would you be happy to let the NHS struggle, potentially letting many people die unnecessarily just so you can do a little bit more outside? It's not like you're not allowed out. >I got it in Italy back in march. An early adopter if you will, I'll dm you my email from public health Scotland if you want. Tens of millions of people have had it so far in the UK, 80% asymptomatically, probably many people you know. The fact that the deaths are so modest in comparison shows how we've over reacted. The fact that you trivialise the lives of so many thousands shows just how out of touch with reality you really are in addition to how incredibly selfish you are. I know a few who have had it. Two who died and several who aren't right months after the fact. Your disregard for "the few" is actually shocking. By your reasoning there shouldn't be any disabled parking spaces, wheelchair ramps or concessions in place for disabled or mobility impaired people givent that they represent a relatively low percentage of the population. Or is this different? >There are ways of protecting the nhs that don't involve summarily placing an entire country under qualified house arrest Nobody is under house arrest. You can still you out. It's not martial law with those crossing their threshold shot on sight. The restrictions are the way they are because people wouldn't follow the initial guidelines. People like you. They thought the rules and guidelines didn't apply to them because they were special. >and erecting internal borders for people who aren't infectious. What do you suggest? Test every person who wants to cross a regional border? Or just stop all unnecessary travel for a 21 days. >Quarantining infected people was the original purpose of the public health act 1984 which has been criminally abused to set precedent and give the state powers that won't easily be rolled back. As already mentioned, people (with your attitude) didn't listen and it led to a spike in cases which then led to increased restrictions. You think the government are doing this for a laugh? You think they are causing decades of damage to the economy for a jolly jape? Get a grip of yourself. They don't pull these things out their arse after getting a bright idea while up for a pish at 2:15am. Advisor's consisting of senior medical specialists, virologists, consultants, infections disease experts, social behavior experts and a whole raft of others have input and come up with advice on how to best curtail the spread of this virus. It's a balancing act of minimising social contact while still attempting to maintain essential services and as much of normal life as reasonably practicable in the circumstances. >Protecting our way of life in a free and open society is worth any number of individual lives prolonged and the fact that were sacrificing so much for so few is bizarre. So their deaths are a sacrifice you're willing to make?!

Any excess is too much. Why are you so fixated on deaths anyway? Is that all Radio 4 talks about? You've just ignored the fact that this is shaping up to have a long lasting and massively widespread impact with regards to chronic illness and after effects. >Hard reality is that the current restrictions, economic cost and social upheaval of our covid response just isn't worth it in the cost/benefit analysis. Says who? Is it up to you to decide what human lives are worth? I'm guessing your view is "not very much". >People should be given the relevant information, advice and support and then be left to make their own decisions. These sweeping new powers are totally beyond the pale. People were informed and told what guidelines to follow. People are, as a group, stupid and very selfish. That's why we are in the situation we are now. Arseholes like you who think that they can do what they want have fucked it for all the good, decent people. As I asked before, is 3 weeks of restrictions really too much to bear? Or have you got too many pressing matters to attend to all over the country at present? >Westminster has been swept up in the hysteria because they're a rudderless populist mob and scotgov has attempted to gain political capital by imagining themselves as a new zealand of the north whilst ignoring our massively disparate material conditions. They are drawing negative attention to the city and the country. Why does it never change? You'd think that if they had any pride or respect for themselves or their team that they supposedly support, they'd find better ways of going about it, no? Calling out violet football fans is "nonsense" but getting together in a large group, shouting and bawling and being violent *because of a game * is just tickety boo? Can you not see the irony in that? >We spend far too much time in this country demonising football fans because they are predominantly working class and if thats something you want to get behind, then get tore in. It's got nothing to do with any kind of class. It has got to do with the same situation whereby the same teams fans turn violent at the slightest provocation. As I've said before, I don't care what colour shirts are on their backs, it's a disgusting display and a blight on the city and the country as a whole when they pull these sort of stunts. Minority or not they are still representing their club and that is what is portrayed to the wider audience by the media. Stop trying to justify this shite.

The fact that it's a small minority doesn't matter. It's what the wider world sees. These images are broadcast via the media and it's what those outside the city and country will see. When they regularly see violent clashes involving certain football fans, this type of behaviour will become synonymous with the city and a country as a whole. It's embarrassing, disgusting and it has been going on for too long with too many people letting it slide and attempting justify it.

I know shite workmanship and lack of knowledge and ability when I see it and I know too many people who have had their car issues gone unsolved, ignored, misdiagnosed or just plain made worse after the ham fisted spanner wielding chimps at AC have given it a good head scratching at. The first and l last time I bought a car from them I sent it back in for issues with ABS sensors and choked charcoal canister which was throwing up an N45 ecu code. I let them know what wheel the issue was on as well as what code was flashing up. First time they cleared the codes and gave me the car back. Issue was up 15 minutes later. No ABS, TCS, ACD and the engine light was back on. Second time they balanced the wheels and changed the coil packs. Third time they rotated the wheels, aligned the geometry (badly, left the steering wheel 45 degrees off centre). Fourth time they changed the wrong ABS sensor and replaced the injectors. Fifth time they eventually got it right after I threatened to hand the car back and shamed them on social media. So, please, tell me how amazing they are.

You seriously underestimate the power that is held by the population when they protest and make their feelings known in the right way. Likewise, you also don't seem to realise just how big an impact even a seemingly small gesture or action can make. From what I've been told by a relative who delivers the vaccine (paraphrasing here): The vaccine has to be delivered into muscular tissue. Not intravenously or into the fat layer. The muscle chosen was the deltoid because it's accessible on the vast majority of people of all sorts of physical fitness states. There are larger needles which are used on folk with more fat tissue there but it's generally convenient and fairly easy to access on most folk. Plus it doesn't require you to drop your drawers or anything like that. Medical professionals, feel free to chime in and clear up anything I've got wrong.

It's not meaningless. You come on to this thread and try to rip the back out of OP, who is in a vulnerable situation and being placed at increased and unnecessary risk by an incompetent, unprofessional and moronic person who should be realising that they have a duty of care. The fact that you can't see anything wrong with the situation tell everyone all they need to know about the sort of person you are.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 27th Aug 2021 1:09pm)
>>It's not meaningless. > >It's entirely meaningless, nothing about that film is pertinent to me or anything I've said here. The fact that there seems to be an increase in the number of idiots, spreading misinformation and not having the first clue as to the gravity of the current situation, particularly in regards to those in vulnerable situations, is depressingly surprising. You've made it clear that you are without a doubt one of these people. >If the cleaner had lied or misrepresented herself somehow, I'd see an issue. She did not. OP is simply being vindictive because he has fuck all better in life to be doing. Do you know what the word 'vindictive' actually means? I don't think you do. OP is a vulnerable person who has been placed at needless risk by an idiot who, like yourself, sees nothing wrong with what they are doing and how it may have catastrophic consequences for those in the unfortunate position of having to interact with them.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 27th Aug 2021 1:17pm)
>>You've made it clear that you are without a doubt one of these people. > >I've spread zero misinformation and I simply place personal choice higher on my list of priorities than you do. Stop trying to pretend everyone you disagree with is an idiot, it only makes you sound like the stupid cunt. That you're completely unwilling/unable to see the issue here and the fact that you cannot see why OP would be seeking assistance in the matter proves you to be either an idiot, wilfully ignorant or both. Which is it to be?
by
B479MSS
(Fri 27th Aug 2021 1:22pm)
>There is no issue if the cleaner is being upfront and honest, which by OP's own account she is. From there, it's anyone's choice to deal with her or not. OP should have no involvement in this woman's career but he is actively seeking to harm it because he is a sad little lonely man. The cleaner is employed to work with vulnerable people. From the account OP has given, their behaviour is also extremely unprofessional and her choice to remain unvaccinated has the serious potential to impact gravely on those who may not be able to be vaccinated. It's baffling that you're doubling down and refusing to see the logic here when so many have pointed out just how flawed your reasoning is.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 27th Aug 2021 1:30pm)
>It's baffling that people like you continue to pretend I'm somehow unable to see the point, rather than simply seeing it and disagreeing. It's the responsibility of whoever is engaging the cleaner to ask her vaccination status first and the cleaner's responsibility to be honest. Right, progress, now you're starting to get somewhere. Well done. Now, building on this, if the system has failed at some point and the cleaner has managed to get into a position in which she has a duty of care to the vulnerable, the this need to be highlighted to the relevant people. How do we do that? By *reporting* the situation and the circumstances of said situation to the relevant person, people or department. The exact thing that OP is looking for assistance with. The exact thing that you incorrectly labelled them as 'vindictive' for attempting to do. You're hard work.

by
B479MSS
(Sat 28th Aug 2021 12:47pm)
Why on earth would you make speaking a certain language compulsory in order to own property on the western isles? That's moronic. There are several generation islanders who don't have any gaelic and yet have parents, grand parents and beyond who only had gaelic. Are you suggesting that because they don't speak the same language as their ancestors, they shouldn't be able to buy or own property in the place they call home?
by
B479MSS
(Sat 28th Aug 2021 10:41pm)
I'm all for the promotion of gaelic and I like hearing it being used among the older ones on a day to day basis but the fact is that it's dying out and if you were to restrict home owning to only gaelic speakers, you'd have a return to the empty, run down villages that were so common through the 80s-00s.
by
B479MSS
(Sat 28th Aug 2021 11:09pm)
>On a global scale it's actually not dying out - hundreds of thousands of people are learning it. Many of them would be very happy to move to the Western Isles for immersion. All that's needed is the right incentive. I'm not talking about a global scale. I'm talking about the island where I'm from. Gaelic is dying out with fewer fluent speakers now than ever and the number is only decreasing with each generation. My great grandparents only spoke gaelic. My grandmother spoke it and learned English as she grew up. My parents and I have it but don't use it and my children don't have any. >\>if you were to restrict home owning to only gaelic speakers, you'd have a return to the empty, run down villages that were so common through the 80s-00s. > >No, you wouldn't. You'd have a huge influx of people. From where, exactly? Why would people who speak Gaelic in other parts of the world leave behind the lives they have where they are to move to a Scottish island? That makes no sense at all. The same goes for those learning the language. You think they will sell up, leave jobs, family and friends to move somewhere remote just to live among others who have done the same? That's nonsensical and wouldn't be feasible in any way.

>\>From where, exactly? Why would people who speak Gaelic in other parts of the world leave behind the lives they have where they are to move to a Scottish island? That makes no sense at all. > >... this whole discussion is about outsiders moving to the Western Isles, so I think we've already established that it's a popular area for people to move to. Now just imagine how attractive it is to people who have dedicated hours of their life to learning a dying language. Travel the world a little bit and you'll realise a lot of people see Scotland in a positive light, and are very interested in moving there. I've been a seafarer for 20 years and I've been to more places around the world than about 99% of people so you can keep the patronising chat to yourself. I've never met any people in that time who have had any real, genuine aspirations to move to the Western Isles. Visit on holiday, absolutely but none have said that they are planning on moving there. For the most part, they are quite happy where they are. >\> You think they will sell up, leave jobs, family and friends to move somewhere remote just to live among others who have done the same? That's nonsensical and wouldn't be feasible in any way. > >Thousands of people are moving into Scotland each year already. Hundreds of thousands more would do so given the right incentives. Having a dedicated Gaelic-speaking area would definitely be a big draw to a certain type of person. Of course, they'd need jobs and amenities that currently don't exist. And there you go, you've countered your own point with the last part of your statement. There are areas where gaelic is still used daily but the numbers of speakers living there are in decline with no sign of it improving. Besides that, to attempt to restrict people from buying property in certain areas because they don't speak a language is never, ever going to get off the ground. It's absolute fantasy.

>I literally don’t care what your opinion is. And I couldn't give two fucks what the opinions of a strange Internet oddball, requesting the company of complete strangers at night are either. >I have 4 people meeting tonight, 3 of which I haven’t met before. 1 I met by chance last week while out taking photos. Have you, aye? >Again, it’s you that has the issue with 7pm. Do people not get mugged before 7pm? Do people not go on dates after 7pm? Do people normally ask random strangers on the Internet to meet them as it's getting dark? >It’s not strange to me. Might be strange to you, you aren’t me. Clearly. >Again, your points, although understandable, are totally irrational. I didn’t ask if this was strange or not, I asked a question that some photographers have taken up the option to meet up tonight. Aye, worrying about the safety of people is irrational! >Honestly, you really didn’t need to comment with what you did. You really didn't have to reply to people whom share the same opinion on the matter as me, with a snarky, indignant manner. >A yes or a no would suffice. Given that I replied, that seems like a redundant question.

If by "perversions" you mean concern over people naively rocking up to a night time rendezvous with an absolute stranger who could potentially have more nefarious reasons for wanting to meet, then you think of that what you will. No skin off my nose.

The instructor is the expert, not you. They can tell better than you can what types of road you should be driving on. Additionally, if you want to have the car take you where you want, look for a big black car with a yellow light on the roof.
by
B479MSS
(Fri 8th Oct 2021 10:54pm)
Mate, your attitude stinks and, to be frank, you are coming across as an entitled fanny. You're paying a driving instructor to teach you how to drive. They will assess your ability and take you on the roads which they feel you are capable of coping with. It's not up to you to decide which roads you drive on and when you do it as you're not yet competent to do so. They have a duty of care to themselves, their students, other road users and pedestrians and the car itself. Thinking you can just jump in and dictate to the instructor which roads you'll be driving on is extremely naive.

Guess it proves my theory about you being an outdated, near-extinct relic with opinions and points of view that would have been questionable 50 years ago, never mind now. You make clear your contempt for those who have a culture different from yours and your clear inability to accept those seeking trans rights shows you up for the pathetic excuse for a person that you show yourself to be on a daily basis. Imagine being so insecure in yourself that you try to put down those who speak a native language of the country you allegedly inhabit, all because it's different and scary to you. That's absolutely tragic. On top of that, you throw about terms such as "hipster", "woke" and the ever classic "libtard" like some old fart who hasn't a clue what they actually mean. It would be hilarious if it wasn't for the fact that there's a good possibility that some poor soul or souls have the embarrassing misfortune to have you as a biological father. Have you considered a career at sea via the cadetship route? You get sponsored/paid through college and upon successful completion, you should leave with an HNC/D, officer of the watch certificate and a guaranteed job which can lead to positions that pay fairly hefty wages. The 3 main routes are deck, engine and electrical, with the first two being the most common. Not sure what the pay for cadets is like nowadays but when I did it (over 20 years ago right enough) it was £520 per 4-week month, or £130 per week, fees paid etc. Depending on the route taken, you should be offered a job that pays in the region of £25-£35k per year upon qualifying. Progression is quick and it's not unusual to see folk earning 6 figures depending on the sector they go into once they have a bit of experience. If you want any other info, just let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.

Full bore generally refers to anything over .22 calibre. .22 is good for up to around 100 yards depending on the rifle and type of round. Larger calibres also use centrefire cartridges (the cartridge had a primer installed in the base) whereas .22 rounds (and .177) use rimfire cartridges where the primer is incorporated into the cartridge case. One exception would be the .22 hornet. It's a .22 head but uses a larger centrefire cartridge. Rimfire cartridges cannot be reused whereas most centrefire cartridges can be reprimed, refilled with propellent and used with a new round/tip pressed into it.

So, if you signed up for a job that was going to give you consistent below-inflation wage rises, you'd be happy with that? Why are you making it seem like a hard concept to grasp?
by
B479MSS
(Tue 23rd Aug 2022 9:44pm)
Striking couldn't be further from begging. Striking is a way of reminding those who run the companies/corporations etc exactly where the power really lies. Without the workforce, a company is nothing. Corporate management regularly forget just how vital those on the shop floor are and they need reminding occasionally.

B479MSS

The fact you misconstrue striking as begging tells me you have absolutely no experience in industrial disputes. The workers aren't going cap in hand to management, "begging" for more money. They know their worth and have downed tools and gone off pay until such time as wages are increased to reflect that worth. Had they been begging, they would still be working and accepting what was offered to begin with.

They aren't asking. They are demanding. There's a major difference. That's a fact. By unionising, they have ensured that the power they have can be orchestrated and brought to bear on a single point, rather than it being an unorganised mess. As for middle men, if you're referring to different layers of operations and management, I can say from first hand experience that trying to operate a company where everyone is "on the same level" doesn't work at all. It descends into chaos pretty quickly and the company I worked for that tried to implement it switched back to the conventional hierarchical system less than a year later.
