  • I used to do PPI Data Gathering on nightshifts. Its fine for short term but hell after a while. The targets are incredibly harsh and they fire you if you fail to meet them for a few weeks in a row. Pay is also shit compared to how difficult the job is too. Really took its toll on my mental health but I did like how I could dress how I liked and listen to music whilst I worked by Deadend_Friend (Wed 31st Jul 2019 9:57am)

  • Aye I saw but I can't really afford to pay face value as I'm pretty skint this month. Was probably just gonna wonder down half an hour before they're due on and try to cop one off a tout for £20 and if I can't get one then no worries by Deadend_Friend (Tue 6th Aug 2019 9:44am)
  • If you go down half an hour before a band are due on they're open to taking way under face value as they realise once the headliner starts the ticket will be worthless. They'd rather than half face value than nothing by Deadend_Friend (Tue 6th Aug 2019 12:53pm)

  • you make it sound like sorting independence is a quick thing, it would take years to get up and running and maybe more than that to make a success of that. I'd rather have a left wing government to fix things for the no, especially with the climate emergency. by Deadend_Friend (Tue 10th Dec 2019 6:54pm)
  • Labour, I don't mind some SNP MPs but have never been convinced Independence is the right move for the time being. by Deadend_Friend (Tue 10th Dec 2019 6:51pm)
  • You shouldn't make this election just about independence. FPTP means anyone claiming a mandate for or against independence based on these election results is chatting a load of shite. The indy ref brought in loads of people who don't usually vote in elections so the electorate at a general election isn't quite reflective of the entire nation by Deadend_Friend (Tue 10th Dec 2019 6:55pm)
  • Depending on which seat you're in Labour could easily beat the SNP in any Glasgow Seat. by Deadend_Friend (Tue 10th Dec 2019 7:00pm)
  • It means 5 years before we can start investing in making the country carbon neutral, you know green issues aren't gonna take priority over creating a new political system and new political institutions (and then deciding if and how an indy Scotland joins the EU and what's it's trade agreement with the rest of the UK would be) by Deadend_Friend (Tue 10th Dec 2019 7:05pm)
  • Ah fair. Yeah best to vote tactically then. by Deadend_Friend (Tue 10th Dec 2019 7:15pm)
  • Share of the vote wise they're on less than 40% across Scotland but you'll get people look at how many MPs they have and people assume they speak for all of Scotland by Deadend_Friend (Wed 11th Dec 2019 12:33am)

  • I don't like the Tories either but to make it sound like Labour are as bad as the Tories is a bit much by Deadend_Friend (Wed 11th Dec 2019 2:08pm)
  • Going after work. Be an interesting race for Glasgow Central and whilst I'm hoping for a Labour win at least we aint' gonna elect a Tory! by Deadend_Friend (Thu 12th Dec 2019 9:25am)
  • Well they could win every seat without 50% of the voteshare because FPTP is a terrible system. This election is about way more than "should we re-run the 2014 referendum", its foolish to claim there isn't or isn't a mandate based on whatever happens tonight by Deadend_Friend (Thu 12th Dec 2019 1:49pm)
  • It's not though. First Past the post is a mis representative political system. Lots of us still like the Labour Party and socialism. by Deadend_Friend (Fri 13th Dec 2019 5:44pm)
  • First past the post is such a fucked system. by Deadend_Friend (Fri 13th Dec 2019 5:43pm)
  • I'm glad they don't have a majority I. holyrood when less than half of the electorate voted for them in those elections. by Deadend_Friend (Sat 14th Dec 2019 12:54am)
  • I agree no party deserves a majority. If that's was the case down in Westminster we'd be able to get other parties to block the worst excesses of government policy. by Deadend_Friend (Sat 14th Dec 2019 1:21am)
  • accidentally fell asleep watching the football last night and fucked my sleeping pattern. Only got 3 hours sleep before work and am feeling like death. Wonder how much coffee I'll need to survive till 5? by Deadend_Friend (Mon 16th Dec 2019 10:46am)

We're a very diverse city with a range of dialects and accents from all over the UK though so hopefully you'll meet a lot of folk you can understand okay! • The Cathouse is your best bet if you want to dance, guessing you'd enjoy the middle floor a lot more than the top one. As for bars which play exclusively rock music aye Solid Rock and Rufus are the best place. If you want a wider mix of alternative music (and some great cheap food) then go to Bloc by Deadend_Friend (Thu 9th Jan 2020 4:16pm)
  • I'm from London / Essex originally. Plan originally after Uni was to get a graduate job in London and move there, that proved challenging to find stable work that paid enough to do so and in the mean time I traveled around the UK a lot and loved Glasgow when I visited. A friend here had a spare room so I said sod it and moved up here in summer 2015 and been here ever since.. Best part if definitely the cheap cost of living and the music scene. Though all the good restaurants and bars and the good access to beautiful countryside is class too. I also really like how the place manages to be so welcoming to foreigners and people from outside of Glasgow whilst maintaining its own identity and character. Whilst London has the former its been at the expense of the latter sadly, place feels like more of an international city than London by Deadend_Friend (Fri 10th Jan 2020 11:33am)
  • Seconded. Though its a bloody hard quiz. by Deadend_Friend (Fri 10th Jan 2020 11:38am)
  • The Old Toll Bar (on Paisley Road) one on Wednesdays at 8 is a good laugh. Also like The Sparkle Horse one on a Monday. Also this question gets asked quite a lot. Should someone maybe make a thread of them all and add it to the side bar? by Deadend_Friend (Fri 10th Jan 2020 11:38am)
  • Looking at your ad I notice neither of you say anything about yourselves. If I was going to move in with people I hadn't met I'd want to know a bit about them before I could consider maybe living with them. by Deadend_Friend (Fri 10th Jan 2020 11:44am)
  • No we didn't. We voted to join the EEA, which was a very different arrangement to the EU. The British public weren't ever given referendums to ratify the Maastricht or Lisbon Treaties which turned the EEA into the EU as we know it today. by Deadend_Friend (Sun 12th Jan 2020 2:26pm)
  • I think we should of had referendums on the Maastricht and Lisbon treaties (every nation should have to ratify via referendum in my view) which would have meant we never had the 2016 referendum. by Deadend_Friend (Sun 12th Jan 2020 6:07pm)
  • No one will care if you're a girl and have a masculine sounding voice. Most people in this city have met a Trans person before and aren't bothered by it, maybe try going out to a LGBT exclusive space to get your confidence up first? I'm sure of all people they'll be the most welcoming to ya! by Deadend_Friend (Mon 13th Jan 2020 10:01am)

  • Question is. Is it improving because the people who lived their have gotten better off or because wealthier people from outside the city are moving in and gentrifying the areas? I suspect the latter by Deadend_Friend (Wed 29th Jan 2020 9:40am)
  • I'm from London and I moved here because I've been priced out of my own city, I live in one of the few affordable working class areas on the Subway line and its already slowly getting gentrified (I stay in Cessnock) by Deadend_Friend (Wed 29th Jan 2020 9:47am)
  • Fair, I hope so. Whilst the area has its problems (Mainly all the flytipping and litter) I really hope it doesn't turn into another Finnieston, Dennistoun or Hillhead. As a low earner its one of the few areas in the city center I can afford to live, I wouldn't like to be priced out to Paisley lol by Deadend_Friend (Wed 29th Jan 2020 1:20pm)

I'd like to think the police would turn a blind eye to small groups having a few socially distanced cans but the police can be utter pricks, especially during these days. Or when the Saudi government murder LGBT people on a regular basis. Don't get me wrong racism in America is disgusting but there are a lot of evils in the world which deserve the same level of conemnation but don't get it because they don't take place in the West. by Deadend_Friend (Tue 2nd Jun 2020 12:07pm)

  • I think that flag is incredibly problematic but I think they're using it due to its connections to the American south / country music than because they don't like people of colour. • So i went down there. Me and two others ended up debating with these weapons for a while, I decided to head off around 5. As i got onto Buchanan Street I realised one had been following me, he went round the subway entrance and got in front of me between that chippy and the subway entrance and tried standing in the middle of the road, then as I got close I clocked he was up to no good and the guy hit me round the side of the head and ran away. Thankfully managed to shield my face so no bad damage was done but am pretty shaken up by it. Meathead cowards. by Deadend_Friend (Sun 14th Jun 2020 6:02pm)

A lot of my family are the stereotypical right leaning working classes (believe a lot of shit they read in the Sun and online) but usually we've always been able to reach a decent understand and compromise on each others politics by talking, some will call me a weak liberal but I think society can only improve when those of us who disagree talk to each other by Deadend_Friend (Mon 15th Jun 2020 1:22am)

  • I'm sorry to hear that happened to you mate. I went down yesterday to see if there was a counter on yesterday and I only found a few people and was attacked when I left. • Yep. by Deadend_Friend (Fri 3rd Jul 2020 10:49pm)
  • Who will it benefit? And by that logic why not ban all alcohol sales? I don't think the kids getting steaming at the parks and causing bother were getting drunk on takeaway pints by Deadend_Friend (Fri 3rd Jul 2020 11:17pm)
  • It will be anyway, this law won't stop dickheads from being dickheads. Exactly, cans not takeaway pints. Those were illegal anyway so clearly the ban doesn't work as people in mass ignore it. All this does is hurt pubs. And what basis do you have to claim people in Glasgow "aren't ready"? I hear this shame shite given between football and rugby fans and it usually just boils down to classism by Deadend_Friend (Fri 3rd Jul 2020 11:33pm)

  • Can't see why not, it's easier to socially distance on a train than it is in a car. Just use some common sense and keep your social distance and you'll be fine by Deadend_Friend (Mon 6th Jul 2020 1:59am)
  • Speak for yourself, I and many other people who live in this city can enjoy it responsibly. Why should we be punished for the actions of the few? When this few caused bother even with the current drinking restrictions anyway. by Deadend_Friend (Mon 6th Jul 2020 1:56am)

  • Its a pretty big area. Cessnock and Ibrox are both very decent and cheap places to live. Govan and Shieldhall? Less so but they're certainly not the worst places in Glasgow. by Deadend_Friend (Thu 16th Jul 2020 1:51pm)
  • I'm a white English guy in my late 20s and have never experienced any. Lots of Asian men who hang about on the streets but I've never seen them causing bother but can see why women might find that intimidating. There's a lot of fly tipping on certain streets but that ain't an issue unique to Glasgow. Cessnock ain't glamerous but has lots of shops / takeaways and the access to the West End and the City Center are fantastic. The price and transport links are the areas biggest strenghts. Oh and only other issue is when Glasgow Rangers (the areas local football club) are at home the roads get packed. If you have any other questions about the area feel free to ask, I've lived in Cessnock for 3 years by Deadend_Friend (Thu 16th Jul 2020 2:00pm)
  • Cessnock is a little dirty but I wouldn't say it's rough. I've never seen anyone have a scrap or any violent crime being committed. As for being close to Ibrox I've never had any serious aggro from the Rangers fans, wee bit of chanting after a game but that's all by Deadend_Friend (Thu 16th Jul 2020 3:27pm)

  • I used to. Live in Cessnock and walked there every day as otherwise I'd have to get a subway to St Enoch and take a train to Exhibition Center which took longer. I quite liked the location, lots of good boozers nearby by Deadend_Friend (Thu 30th Jul 2020 11:15am)
  • When I first moved to Glasgow I was walking back from a house party in Kings Park to my flat at the time in Toryglen, had a beer left and was drinking it on the walk back whilst listening to a podcast on my headphones. Cops drove past me and pulled me over and tried to fine me, I wasn't aware it was illegal at the time. I'd like to have think they'd have used some discretion and common sense and just poured the beer away and told me to be on my way. I found them super rude and proper jobsworths about it. Other experiences I've had was being kettle at that anti-facist protest the other month and being moved along for sitting in Kelvingrove Park when I wanted a 5 minute rest on my walk (I was alone and sat very far from anywhere else and this was in May) and I was once stopped and searched when walking home from the gym at 2am because "I matched the description of a known vandal" (as its a crime to look like someone?) Tbh I think those two were just on a powertrip and made that shite up to stop and search me. I'm from London originally and I find ther police there are much less likely to be jobsworth (probably as there's often more serious crime they know they should be dealing with) by Deadend_Friend (Thu 30th Jul 2020 11:20am)

  • I suppose for the people making that post they want him removed from being the head booker because it's a position of power and a lot of survivors of abuse would not feel safe at Nice N Sleazy with him in that position, and considering as a venue they pride themselves on having a "no arseholes policy" they should practice what they preach. by Deadend_Friend (Tue 4th Aug 2020 12:57am)

  • The care home fiasco, knowing that sending kids back to uni was gonna cause issues and doing fuck all to prepare or try to prevent it, keeping boozers open but banning spectators from all sports, its own science chief not keeping to the rules they set. They've been just as clueless as the UK government, only Sturgeon is less of a bumbling idiot than Boris so comes across better in her briefings. by Deadend_Friend (Wed 7th Oct 2020 4:31pm)
  • Depends who you ask. For those of us on the left it's not that. That criticism you're thinking of is if Scotland goes independent and joins the EU it's defecit could be a big problem by Deadend_Friend (Wed 7th Oct 2020 4:40pm)
  • All uni stuff is online anyway. They just brought then back to help private landlords and to get their halls money. And because football is outdoors and fans can be socially distanced. Much more so than at bars, notice how no covid outbreaks came from any test events which have occurred across the UK. by Deadend_Friend (Wed 7th Oct 2020 4:46pm)
  • what if a vaccine never comes or takes several years? These kinds of regulations for that amount of time would cripple so many people both financially and in regards of mental health. by Deadend_Friend (Wed 7th Oct 2020 7:02pm)
  • Varies depending on where the clubs stadium is but usually a mix of walking, car or public transport, staggered arrivals and departures is how you mitigate this. I'm more thinking for tiny wee club who get less than a 1000 fans which is very managable. Common sense would approach how many fans on a club by club basis depending on the stadium (which is working great in Germany and France) by Deadend_Friend (Wed 7th Oct 2020 7:00pm)
  • They're a big tent party comprised of those on the center right and center left, there a handful of socialist MPs and MSPs but they're not an overtly left wing party by Deadend_Friend (Wed 7th Oct 2020 9:03pm)
  • I said they are a big tent party meaning they have center right members, not that they were a center right. Lots of center right parties in Europe support education and government funded healthcare (see Germany or the Netherlands for example). by Deadend_Friend (Wed 7th Oct 2020 9:44pm)
  • You can't go ahead and call something stupid without explaining why you think so without looking well... Rather stupid ;) Just because there has been a lot of spending (funded by boring which will be repaid in future austerity cuts or taxation on lower and middle income workers rather than billionaires no doubt) doesn't mean we don't live in a capitalist country which greatly benefits big corporations and the super wealthy over ordinary people. by Deadend_Friend (Wed 7th Oct 2020 10:10pm)
  • So in other words you have no retort so prefer to call people names on Reddit instead? Real mature of you that. by Deadend_Friend (Wed 7th Oct 2020 10:30pm)
  • I'm a trade unionist so I tend to vote labour as I feel like out of all the major parties they are the most likely to listen to us and introduce left wing policies. I acknowledge they're far from perfect though and if we were in a PR system I'd vote for a party much further left of center by Deadend_Friend (Thu 8th Oct 2020 12:11am)

  • Fairly seriously, where a mask whenever I'm outside and around people, in any shop and when I'm at the gym. In the summer when the numbers were lower I did a fair bit of domestic travel around the UK to see friends and family using public transport. And I did things like visit the cinema, go to beer gardens etc I live by myself and have visited a couple of friends flats but only ever make sure its me and one other household at a time as per the rules, obviously I wouldn't go to a party or mix with multiple households indoors. by Deadend_Friend (Fri 9th Oct 2020 9:47am)

  • I'm doing sober October but it's not about alcohol, it's about freedom and workers rights. The industry is getting shafted through no fault of their won without adequate financial protections. Lots of people have had a very tough year and sacrificed a lot to follow these restrictions and after all of this we get punished and scapegoated due to the government throwing away all our good work at getting deaths and cases down due to their failure to implement an effective track & trace system and their failure to prepare for universities coming back. Can rightly see why people are fuming. by Deadend_Friend (Fri 9th Oct 2020 9:47pm)

  • Sadly I don't think there's much you can do to get people to comply, people were a lot happier to comply before shite like the Cummings fiasco, the Rutherglen MP and all the other people who broke the rules they helped come up with. It feels so hopeless :/ by Deadend_Friend (Sat 10th Oct 2020 12:11am)
  • The vast majority have been following the rules, there's always been a small minority who haven't been but the rise in numbers is due to universities going back and the government encouraging folk to "eat out to help out" and "get back to the office to save coffee shops". This scapegoating of the people is to mask the government's failures. by Deadend_Friend (Sat 10th Oct 2020 12:26am)

  • Not sure, sturgeon said she was going to copy England's tiered system but hasn't announced tiers yet. It comes after the current rules expire, the English tier 3 includes gyms closing and I imagine Scotland's would too by Deadend_Friend (Fri 16th Oct 2020 3:43pm)

  • Very true but tbh I don't really feel rivalry the same way with international football. Like the England v Scotland rivalry to me is more of a friendly rivalry than my clubs rivalry. Maybe that's because I have Scottish family or maybe it's because the games between England and Scotland have been less frequent and less fierce in my lifetime (I was born in 92 so don't remember the games in 96 or 98) by Deadend_Friend (Thu 12th Nov 2020 5:29pm)

Proper gutting, really hope I can get refunds on these flights given its now illegal if I took either. by Deadend_Friend (Sat 19th Dec 2020 6:09pm)

They do a great job at pulling the SNP to the left in Holyrood and often back a lot of Labours more left wing amendments to bills even when the SNP don't. • Why am I not surprised. Sturgeon needs to grow a pair and get the transphobes tae fuck. Also yeah Paul is a great champion of drug policy reform which is needed to help the drugs deaths crisis. by Deadend_Friend (Sat 8th May 2021 7:44pm)
  • Because Sturgeon and the rest of the NEC clearly don't care because people will vote for them anyway. Otherwise Joanna Cherry and all the other TERF's would have been yeeted out months ago. • It's no wonder this country it such a shitshow when folk are voting for their government on a single issue, even if you really want Scottish independence they ain't the only party who supported another referendum. Baffles me how people keep choosing the SNP again and again after so many years of failure and stagnation. by Deadend_Friend (Sat 29th May 2021 12:36am)
  • Tbf that's not exactly true. Glasgows Labour MSPs have been proposing opening walk in vaccine clinics, weekly PCR testing for unvaccinated people in the city and opening up vaccine centers in Glasgow 24/7 to help ensure the entire city is jabbed sooner. You might not agree with those but it's not exactly accurate to claim they wouldn't do things differently. Not that the media reports on any of this mind, they give that weird cunt Salmond more coverage than any of the actual opposition party leaders. by Deadend_Friend (Sat 29th May 2021 12:58am)

Last section was 3 Excel questions where I had to share my screen, thank fuck it was remote as I had to type how to do Index/Match on my personal PC which was sitting behind my work laptop to remember how to do them. • Why do you feel the SNP are more likely to achieve independence than the greens? Both are pro independence parties by Deadend_Friend (Mon 7th Mar 2022 1:54am)
  • That didn't happen to Mandela's party in South Africa or most other countries which became Independent. Usually the biggest established parties remain as they have established membership and infrastructure. • Where in Glasgow do you stay? Theres loads of Juniors teams who are very cheap to go see at very affordable prices. If you stay in the Southside I'd really reccomend going to see Pollok FC, only £7 on the door and you can bring your own booze in. Usually a crowd of 700-1000 there for home games by Deadend_Friend (Sun 13th Mar 2022 12:26pm)
  • I mean there are no football clubs in the city center but most juniors teams in Glasgow are only 10/15 minutes on the bus and train. Polloks ground is next door to Pollokshaws east train station which is only a 10 minutes train from central. Alternatively if you're wanting a professional club Partick Thistle's stadium is only 15 minutes on the bus from town. by Deadend_Friend (Sun 13th Mar 2022 9:25pm)

When people graffiti KAH (kill all Huns) onto Protestant churches they aren't just talking about Rangers fans. If you use split ticketing and book as soon as the advance tickets go on sale (I think for Avanti its 10 weeks before) you'll get it a lot cheaper. by Deadend_Friend (Thu 31st Mar 2022 12:33pm)

  • Most of the issues you all have with ScotRail are due to infrastructure issues. ScotRail don't control the infrastructure, network rail do (who have been government owned since the late 90s). We are now seeing overdue investment in our railway infrastructure but that will take decades to see much of the benefit (source: work for the railways) by Deadend_Friend (Mon 4th Apr 2022 11:55pm)

If I was at a gig and I through a glass bottle at someone I'd be ejected from the venue and probably arrested but the gig wouldn't end early unless the band performing wanted it to. • The Lib Dems and Tories chose to support Labour being a minority administration in Edinburgh as it was either that or a SNP / Green coalition and they sore the former as preferable to the latter. Why they thought that it depends who you ask. Some will say its because they thought the SNP did a bad job in charge of Edinburgh, others will say its because they're just opposing the SNP because of the Nationalist / Unionist divide. I'm a Trade Unionist so I'd prefer to see Scotlands left of center parties work together where possible but Labour and the SNP have a lot of dickheads who'd rather play party politics and oppose each other than work together to try and improve Scotland. As for the Scottish Labour party itself, there are some really great genuinely left wing MSPs and Councillors and some who are bloody awful centerists. Really tbh it would be better if we were entirely PR and the Labour Party could split into two different parties, one for the leftists, one for the centerists Blairites. by Deadend_Friend (Fri 27th May 2022 12:26pm)

I never said those people are bad or that people who immigrate from other places shouldn't to it but anyone who's thinking those streets don't have serious problems is deluded. • Just went to get a PJ Harvey ticket for the Barrowlands and they were £60? I expect that for an Arena but for the Barrowlands that's outrageous. I'm really glad when I was a teenager and didn't have this sort of money gigs were much more affordable. • In principal yes, but don't we have a huge housing shortage? Obviously the medium and long term solutions are to get the huge list of asylum seekers down by improving the time it takes to do applications and building more homes but these aren't done overnight and in the mean time we need somewhere to house people applying for asylum. Not that I think a large barge made by some made of the Tory government is the best way to deal with the problem short term either. by Deadend_Friend (Tue 8th Aug 2023 2:36pm)
