  • Have you got carpets or wooden\laminate flooring? Hard floors can make a lot of noise to a downstairs neighbour. My neighbour's mobile used to vibrate through their laminate flooring and it sounded like a power drill. She was unaware of this. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Tue 8th Jan 2019 1:05pm)

  • Yeah, look at how much litter is in that wee picture alone. If it was floating about the ocean with Attenborough doing the voice-over, we'd be apoplectic. Blowing about the streets? That's fine. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Thu 17th Jan 2019 7:20pm)

  • They're nice but 78, Mono, Stereo are all quite samey. Hug and Pint is very good but it's still just a pub. Red Onion does both a vegan set menu and a 6 course tasting menu. • They wouldn't be here if there wasn't a huge supply of readily available food. Don't blame the gulls. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sun 26th May 2019 8:35am)
  • Although I agree with you, it wasn't a seagull that stuck a pizza box in my hedge last weekend. I think we need those big dumpster things they have in Edinburgh and Aberdeen. It would mean fewer parking spots for our precious cars though. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sun 26th May 2019 8:53am)

  • I don't mind busking but there should be rules about amplified music in the city centre. It's too much. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sat 13th Jul 2019 7:39am)
  • Yep, car addicts argue that it will destroy retail but it usually has the opposite effect. People are attracted to clean open spaces where you don't have to wait 5 minutes for permission to cross the street. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sat 13th Jul 2019 11:31am)
  • Not sure about that. Dogs are very limited in their positions. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Wed 17th Jul 2019 9:00pm)
  • It's like Wacky Races. Expecially if you have to cross 5 lanes quickly to get to a slip road on the inside lane. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Thu 18th Jul 2019 12:51pm)
  • I didn't say it was me personally doing it. I know the road layout so i know where I need to be. Imagine you'd never driven that road before. There's a turn off for Dumbarton or Charing X\Kelvingrove but they're on opposite sides of the road. Sit on the right and enrage the Audis and white vans or risk it on the left where the law says you should be? by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Thu 18th Jul 2019 3:23pm)
  • I'd expect "arranging cover" to be the manager's job. If they're incapable of managing their resources at short notice, they're in the wrong role. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Thu 15th Aug 2019 1:07pm)
  • So Glasgow is the Birmingham of Scotland? by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Fri 16th Aug 2019 5:49pm)
  • Pedestrians aren't crossing the road. The road is crossing the pavement and cars are expected to follow the Highway Code and allow pedestrians the right of way. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sat 17th Aug 2019 7:55am)
  • Don't try it on a Seiko though. They use these wee collar things that are a massive pain in the arse to put back in. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Thu 5th Sep 2019 8:19pm)
  • Tenements must be the bane of the binmen. Having to go through closes, picking up bins or dragging wheely bins to the wagon. It must cost a fortune in manpower too. I think it also reinforces that Glasgow belief that "someone else will do it" when all they have to do is dump their binbags in the back courts and it eventually disappears. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Thu 19th Sep 2019 11:21am)
  • Edinburgh and Aberdeen have those big communal bins but they take up precious car parking spaces so Glasgow would freak out if that happened. We'd also have to lay off loads of binmen so there would be strikes and the problem would get worse before it got better. I think Glasgow is just fucked. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Thu 19th Sep 2019 1:42pm)
  • Did we have to explain why all the streets are named after slavers? by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Mon 28th Oct 2019 8:33pm)
  • I'm a bit torn on these buildings. Can they be saved? The cost of making them attractive to tenants would be prohibitive. They'll need to be made accessible, easy and cheap to maintain and have the facilities to attract modern businesses. Also, are the really worth saving? Are they really that special? I'm not convinced they are. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Thu 31st Oct 2019 2:21pm)

  • There's no motorway North of Perth. Those are plain old A-Roads. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Thu 23rd Jan 2020 12:40pm)
  • And there are places with that kind of thing within easy reach. You want a castle? Go to Stirling? You want a battlefield? Also go to Stirling (well, Bannockburn). It's only 35 minutes on a train now. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Thu 30th Jan 2020 1:14pm)
  • Maybe he's got Greater tattood on his arse? by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Wed 12th Feb 2020 7:00am)
  • Yep, the roads are usually swept and gritted and mostly free of pedestrians and their dogs. The only roads that belong to motor vehicles are motorways. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Wed 12th Feb 2020 5:42pm)

  • Yeah my dad can get a real ale for under £2 and gets more money off with his fucking CAMRA card. Any ideals of social equality he once harboured are dead and buried when a cheap pint waves at him. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Thu 26th Mar 2020 11:38am)

  • We could just burn down the Merchant city and all the streets named after Tobacco Lords? by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Tue 2nd Jun 2020 10:39am)
  • We're a funny bunch. We wank ourselves silly over Nelson Mandela Place but our fanciest streets are named after slavers. We even named a shopping centre after one of them and nobody bats an eyelid. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Tue 2nd Jun 2020 11:39am)
  • Aye well then. Let's just forget it ever happened. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Tue 2nd Jun 2020 11:50am)
  • This wouldn't be deleting history though. These are just street names. We build a shopping centre and call it Buchanan Galleries because it's on Buchanan Street. Someone opens a pub called Ingram Wynd because it's on Ingram Street and it's fine because we've never addressed why these streets are called that. To be honest, renaming them isn't important but some kind of memorial or museum to acknowledge Glasgow's role in the Transatlantic Slave Trade is long overdue. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Tue 2nd Jun 2020 2:05pm)
  • And recently tarted up too. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Fri 5th Jun 2020 4:38pm)
  • That was Malcom X though. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sat 6th Jun 2020 12:29pm)
  • We are though. Buchanan Galleries, Ingram Wynd, Merchant City. We give them these names because nobody knows the history. At least we're all taking about it now. It's only taken a couple of centuries. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sun 7th Jun 2020 12:20am)

  • All their regalia, music, parades and idolatry are very Catholic in nature. They've replaced the worship of Mary with the worship of King Billy. They have become the very thing they swore to destroy. It's a fucking weird cult. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sat 20th Jun 2020 12:41pm)
  • Apart from Belfast having copper domes, fewer floors, being made from different stone and being a completely different architectural style, you're absolutely right. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Tue 23rd Jun 2020 6:27pm)
  • Maybe if the Mitchell Library shagged the City Chambers, the bastard offspring would be Belfast City Hall. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Wed 24th Jun 2020 7:35am)
  • The Griffin is nice inside too. The woodwork round the windows is anyway. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Mon 29th Jun 2020 8:34am)

  • Anti-English sentiment? What you on about? by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sat 12th Sep 2020 2:14pm)

  • There's a sewage treatment plant at Dalmarnock. Shit does stink unfortunately but it shouldn't be discharged directly into the river. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sun 13th Sep 2020 11:07am)

  • The context of the station includes the old bank building opposite, George House, the Carlton George Hotel etc. Its height matches its neighbours and it retains the features of the old cast iron arched roof too. I think it's pretty decent. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sat 19th Sep 2020 10:18pm)

  • I don't think I can. From a tourism perspective, it's worth seeing but it's not worth going to see. If you're short on time I wouldn't bother. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Wed 16th Dec 2020 11:56am)
  • Edinburgh also has friendly people. Scotland is a pretty friendly place in general and I can't say I've found Glasgow to stand out from the crowd in that respect. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Wed 16th Dec 2020 1:58pm)
  • Not really. Cost is a factor and nobody would build with an aim of losing money. I'm sure the same went for tenements 100 years ago. New builds are made with modern building materials and techniques. My 10 year-old house is timber framed with brick walls and render on top. It has a shit load of insulation and amazing windows that keep the cold and rain out with zero condensation and dampness. You could build houses using sandstone blocks but it would be expensive and completely unnecessary considering the modern materials we have available. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Wed 23rd Dec 2020 12:09pm)

  • I've recently moved in with my partner and we've been trying to remove the single person discount from our council tax bill. We can't call them and the website is a dead end of broken links. We have emailed but have had no reply. We're actually trying to give them money but it's proving impossible. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sat 20th Mar 2021 10:18am)
  • Cheers, I'll try that out. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sat 20th Mar 2021 10:45am)
  • The demands for car parking in tenement areas really spoils the neighbourhood in my opinion. I have neighbours in a one bedroom flat that have two cars and I doubt they're the only ones. If OP has a car they should not be looking for a tenement. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Mon 29th Mar 2021 7:21am)

  • A flat on my close is doing that right now. I think they're making a kitchen/living room which is shite in a Dennistoun tenement. It was bought for 115, 10 grand spent of cheaply converting to a 2 bed, and will no doubt be back on the market in a couple of weeks for o/o 160. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sun 25th Apr 2021 7:30am)
  • Yes but it would be run by Underbelly or some other cunty company which would draw custom from long established bars and restaurants in the area. • You've highlighted the problems created by giving up pavement space for cycle lanes. Sauchiehall Street is full of bars and restaurants so you'll get drunk people not paying attention. They know not to walk in the road but they're not aware of the cycle lanes. They're only segregated by a slightly higher kerb which is easily stepped over. I'd be careful with the air horn. That's just going to antagonise drunk people. One other thing, are you riding an electric bike? If so, you should be on the road. It's not going to be long before a deliveroo rider on an EB kills someone and that's something you'd rather not do. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sun 5th Dec 2021 9:12am)
  • The ones that have throttles that go over 15mph are not bikes. I'm not saying OPs is one of those but many Deliveroo riders have them. Had a look at his post history. • Shared use paths are fine. I walk and run. I don't drive or cycle but I'm happy to share my environment with both. OP is complaining about pedestrians stepping in front of his ebike. OP, I'm afraid you're going to have to start at the bottom and prove your worth that way. Try NHS vacancies for admin positions or train as a carer with aspirations of nursing or something similar. I know you don't like bureaucracy but this is the real world so you'll need to suck it up. The NHS hasn't got the best pay in the world but the holidays and pension are pretty decent. • There was a squadron of Greylags up Alexandra Park two days ago and I heard woodpeckers drumming in early summer. I saw four kestrels flying in formation through the graveyard behind the cathedral too. Never seen that before. There appear to be far fewer gull chooks on the roofs this year too. I hope they're doing OK. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sat 30th Jul 2022 10:55pm)

  • My partner bought in Dennistoun 9 years ago when nobody would go near it. Our close had three flats up for sale in the last year. All went to young Scottish professionals. Doctors, solicitors, Fintech. Why would letting agents be putting you off Dennistoun? It's not a bad area. • Yes, factoring in new build tends to be very specific in where the money goes. I bought new about 12 years ago and everything was laid out in advance with specific shares per flat. I'm in a tenement now. We pay quite substantial factor fees and get far less done for it. Also, I have a friend round the corner in a top-floor tenement with a constantly leaking roof. Despite being factored, several flats in the close have refused to share the cost of repairs and the factors are taking no action. Her only option now is to fix it herself and go to Small Claims to force them to pay. In reality, she'll probably just take the hit herself. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Sat 28th Jan 2023 9:03am)

One is for orange bags and the other is for general waste. The orange bags are all taken off site by a third party for incineration. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Fri 2nd Jun 2023 1:05pm)
  • It definitely is not for that. It's the boiler house for heating and hot water. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Fri 2nd Jun 2023 2:51pm)

  • I work there and AAU was flooded today. The weird thing is, it's on the ground floor of Jubilee so not sure how that happened. There are always leaks in the older buildings though. Some of them are over 100 years old and maintenance is a nightmare. Last night's rain was quite extreme so I expected to have issues today. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Wed 21st Jun 2023 6:13pm)

  • I used to do a milk round in the early 90s. It involved jumping backwards off a moving van with a milk carrier in each hand. The driver would usually go as fast as he possibly could "for a laugh" and we'd often fall. I didn't get seriously injured but others did and it caused injuries that continue to bother them to this day. The only life lessons this taught me was to never put myself at risk for other people's benefit again. It's often said that Health and Safety rules are written in blood and they fucking are. This guy wants a kid to do dangerous work for peanuts. You're not a snowflake to refuse that. Fuck him and his shite firm. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Fri 30th Jun 2023 7:40am)
  • No. All he needed to say was there's a job available in his garage. Tell us how much it pays and how many hours it is. It's a garage. Anyone that applies would know what it involves. Instead he's ranting about snowflakes and Tiktok and the usual "kids these days" nonsense. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Fri 30th Jun 2023 11:06am)

Dogs are not humans and do not have a sense of right and wrong and they cannot be innocent or guilty of anything. If BSL prevents a single death then it works. We need to revise the laws and include these new mutant breeds but these charities are pushing the lie that there are no bad breeds. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. • It has its own unique charm. They've done some odd things over the years like painting over the original tiling with some kind of weird magnolia vinyl paint. It's peeling off now and looks terrible. Sounds like you were in OPD in the QEB. It's a maze but the clinics themselves are maintained to a good standard and the staff are great. Maintenance is constant, especially in the old hospital. . When there's heavy rain you can expect something to go wrong. The only real options are to patch things up and hope for the best. Short of building another massive hospital elsewhere, I'm not really sure what else we could do I don't think it's awful though. Sounds like you had a bad experience but shit happens. Have a look at the Friends of GRI Instagram and check out their museum. This old place has contributed a lot to public health over the last couple of centuries. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Tue 19th Sep 2023 9:06pm)

  • OP will have a very hard time finding a flat anywhere nice in Glasgow. If they're looking for a tenement with good transport links in an area with nice pubs and restaurants, they'll be competing with dozens of others looking for the same thing. If they're expecting lots of affordable, quality housing then they've missed that boat by a few years unfortunately. Personally, I'd look to Paisley or even further out like Stirling or Falkirk. by GoHomeCryWantToDie (Thu 19th Oct 2023 1:09pm)

  • So people have been forced out of Edinburgh and into Glasgow? This increases demand, depletes stock and leads to higher prices. It may still be cheaper in some parts of Glasgow but it's far from cheap, especially if you're a low earner. The Glasgow trains are a lot better than people give them credit for though.
