  • Has enough time passed yet for it to be okay to say that The Batman wasn't very good? by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 18th Apr 2022 9:24am)
  • I've been reading Batman comics for years now and there's so much stuff in the that that's better than regurgitating the same stuff on screen time and time again. People give the newer Marvel stuff a bad rap, but I like it since it's using new characters and stories that haven't been adapted time and time again. by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 18th Apr 2022 10:43am)
  • The main points were that it was too long, boring and moody. The same characters and plots are used again and again and it gets boring. There's so much stuff that's great from the comics, but they use the same characters and material repeatedly. There's a lot of filler - The Iceberg Lounge sequence could have been halved to no detriment. The 'World's Greatest Detective' jumps to simple conclusions-'birds have wings. So do bats'. The romance with Catwoman comes out of nowhere. The Riddler is portrayed terribly here. The character would be a great Hush or Anarky, but as The Riddler? It doesn't gel well. Some scenes are just so comical as well, like the Keystone Kops sequence in the police building or Batman and Catwoman riding their bikes together for an inordinately long time. I'm also bored with a gritty, realistic taken on the character. Part of the charm is that it's a ridiculous premise, so to see it being taken seriously time and again gets rote. I'd rather have the Batmobile be a big gothic limousine than a Dodge Charger. The attempts to show he's inexperienced as a crime fighter as well fall flat. Stalling the Batmobile was laughable. Agreed with the final act. The buildup to purging Gotham of corruption was intriguing, but then they go full disaster mode for no reason. That scene of Batman on the roof was ridiculous as well. It's just so long, boring and unoriginal. The comics are great, but this was just so uninspired. I'm baffled as to why people came out the cinema thinking it's a masterpiece. by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 18th Apr 2022 10:56am)
  • The Cat and the Bat storyline was done reasonably well in the Rebirth comics, but again just falls flat here. It's good they brought in the detective skills, but going into and empty room and saying 'they're gone' and figuring out the letters URL point to a website isn't exactly Poirot levels of deduction. It's definitely better than The Dark Knight Rises, but that's not saying much. by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 18th Apr 2022 11:27am)
  • I would say that would be the biggest difference. The people I've spoken to who loved it don't read the comics. I guess that if you know more about the lore, you can see the possibilities that could be made into films rather than the same small reference pools time and time again. It would have been cool to see Hush and/or Anarky rather than having their characters composited into a singular version of The Riddler that doesn't work. There are stories about The Court of Owls secretly controlling Gotham or the War of Jokes and Riddles, but instead we get the usual Joker-esque singular villain who needs to destroy the city. Why not adapt these lesser-known stories to the big screen? The Arkham serious definitely is. It embraces the more out-there comic book stuff but with a decent level of reverence. I'd much rather see characters like Hugo Strange, Killer Croc, etc. in character studies than what we got with The Batman. by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 18th Apr 2022 11:37am)
  • Immortal Hulk was fantastic. Not a single bad issue. Sad it's done, but it ended when it needed to. Not feeling the Cates 'Starship Hulk' run. Reckon I'll cancel it. Yeah, I can see what you mean. I liked Eternaks, but it's little more than the usual 'world's ending and needs saved' plot. Hopefully Blade, Black Knight, etc. Will do something different. Wouldn't be surprised, Moore hates everything! by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 18th Apr 2022 12:34pm)

  • I'm lucky in that after years of working in shite jobs, I've managed to land a job I can see myself working in long term. If I can't see that for myself, then I know the job isn't for me. Job descriptions usually don't live up to the actual job. Having to fulfil all these criteria in a description only to find out you're mindlessly doing the same thing day in and day out seems to be the case. by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 25th Apr 2022 1:29pm)
  • Is it really hard to get bass levels at arenas correct? I've been to three gigs over the last 5 months at the Hydro and they've all had the bass being super loud compared to everything else and hitting everyone with that super loud **VWORP** that makes your stomach rumble. I remember it happening with gigs at the Manchester Arena as well. by GoldenZWeegie (Tue 26th Apr 2022 10:28am)

  • I don't get why people listen to albums they don't like multiple times. If it was bad the first time around, why would it be any better after the fifth? by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 29th Apr 2022 8:36am)
  • Yeah, there seems to be this way of thinking that you must like everything an artist you like puts out. My pal and I went to the new Rammstein premiere in the cinema last night and they said they'd need to listen to it a couple more times before they'd hopefully like it. Why waste time listening to an album again that you already know you don't like? Years ago, I posted that that I didn't like Daft Punk's Random Access Memories and someone told me they didn't start liking it until their *tenth* listen. Once was enough for me, why would I listen to it a further nine!? by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 29th Apr 2022 10:28am)
  • I get that if there are decent songs you like on an album, but if I listen to a song that I don't like on first listen, I don't want to listen to it again. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather not waste my time listening to things I don't like in the hopes that eventually I will. That way of thinking seems to be really common with any media these days. You can't just like something or parts of something, you have to either like everything or you're not a fan. by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 29th Apr 2022 11:24am)
  • Can I ask what compelled you to listen to them again despite not liking them? by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 29th Apr 2022 11:21am)
  • They won't be. They brought on a 20 limit on that road that goes from the river side of town to the SEC. No-one sticks to it and I got overtaken by a police car while was doing 20. People speed all the time and nothing is ever done about it. by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 29th Apr 2022 11:42pm)
  • Judging by the downvotes I received yesterday, it appears that people regularly choose to listen to music they don't like. Blows my mind. by GoldenZWeegie (Sat 30th Apr 2022 8:29am)
  • Yeah, it's absolute shite, but people vehemently defended it, saying it took them dozens of times listening to it actually like it. I don't have the time or inclination to force myself to like something regardless of the artist. If I don't like a song the first time, I won't like it the second time. Yeah, people were praising it as a departure from the usual stuff, but it was boring funk music. If I wanted to listen to funk, I wouldn't listen to Daft Punk. by GoldenZWeegie (Sun 1st May 2022 10:44am)
  • Went for a walk around Victoria Park with a friend yesterday evening. Heard some banging and booming when we got to the Fossil Grove and discovered a group of about 15 young people, can't have been older than 15, throwing rocks, boulders and logs at the FG building. We walked past and two girls followed us, calling me 'a bam' and my pal 'speccy'. Going back to see what was happening after a particularly loud bang, we got shouted at more by the group, with one randomly using the n-word at us. I didn't see it, but apparently they were smoking something as well. My pal and another passer-by called the police to report what was happening, to which the group scarpered while shouting that we were 'grasses'. After they'd left, the passer-by told us that they were frequently in the park and showed us where they'd supposedly caved in one of the shutters of the building, which was almost totally bent in. We continued our walk to find that they hadn't left the park, just moved to the kids' playpark area. There they continued to sporadically shout abuse at us from a distance and moon us, all while children and families were using the equipment there. They ran off to the main pitch when a police car with its sirens on drive past. As we were walking down the path to the main gate, one boy followed us, telling us to fuck off and that we were 'grassy fucks'. I get that younger people need to let off steam, particularly after the last three years, but destroying cultural heritage and abusing other users of the park isn't the way to go about it. The pavilion has already been lost due to the arson, it wouldn't be good if further infrastructure or usage of the park was lost due to this antisocial behaviour. by GoldenZWeegie (Thu 5th May 2022 7:51am)
  • Victoria Park seems to be really bad for vandalism recently. Last night, the graffiti that has just been removed and of course the pavilion. by GoldenZWeegie (Thu 5th May 2022 9:09am)
  • Cheers, will give it a read. Yeah, didn't feel like there was much I could do. Shouting at kids and/or filming their behaviour feels really weird. My pal briefly spoke to them, but that just riled them up. All we could do is ignore them. Puts me off going in future if that's what we can expect. by GoldenZWeegie (Thu 5th May 2022 9:11am)
  • First time in my life I've had a permanent job that I don't mind going into, knowing I won't be worked to the bone for minimum wage, gaslighted by my boss and treated like a child by my colleagues. Took long enough. by GoldenZWeegie (Tue 10th May 2022 12:52pm)

  • The organisation of The Killers at Falkirk Stadium is an absolute shambles. Read that parking would be available and since no trains were on opted to drive through. Door time was half 5 and we left straight from work arriving around 6. When we arrived, stewards had closed the car parks due to being full, so we had to drive around until we found a space in a random plumbing shop car park on the estate nearby. No signage on how to get to the stadium, so followed the crowd. 20ish minute walk to the stadium including over an uneven field. Only way to get out was over a piece of barbed wire crudely wrapped in hazard tape. Got to the gates and there were no signs or stewards telling us where to actually go. Huge clumps of people swarming one entrance only to find out they had to go to another queue. On the stadium grounds, there was no crowd control: huge groups of people were walking into and through each other. No segregation of directions or queues for facilities, just a massive blob of people walking in opposite directions and amorphous queues for facilities. No underfoot coverings, so again the ground was uneven and the dust being kicked up was cloying. Asked a steward where the water facilities to refill bottles was and he said we could use the fire exit at the other side of the building to get to it. When we arrived and told the steward guarding it what the previous one had said, we had to wait until he got a supervisor to let us through, who then told us we had to go around the entire building to get back inside once we were done. Couldn't find the tap so asked for help and were pointed to a literal nondescript tap tied to a fence. Again no signage to make it stand out. Before the gig started, there was a dispute with people about seating. Rather than coming to help, the steward stood and watched the two parties involved go back and forward until they resolved the issues themselves. There was a younger woman sitting crying in the standing area and I noticed another steward clock her, look away then continue walking up and down the area. Saw her getting helped by a random woman in the audience. Afterwards, we walked back to our car and got stuck on the road leading out of the industrial estate for about an hour due to congestion. The roads were moving extremely slowly, not helped by a steward blocking traffic at a green light to let large amounts of cars from one of the car parks to join the main road. Once we actually got out, it was only about 30 minutes to get home. The show finished at half 10, got home about half past midnight. Such poor organisation for such a massive event. Awful parking facilities, lack of signage, directions and proper queues made the event seem extremely amateurish compared to other ones I've been to. The Killers were cracking, though. by GoldenZWeegie (Tue 7th Jun 2022 9:58am)

These women were shouting a conversation at each other and despite being told to be quiet by myself and other members of the audience, they just got louder and started gesticulating at us. • Loads of dogs off the lead in Victoria Park. So many times I've been watching the squirrels or ducks and a dog has come out of nowhere and scared them off. I've seen a dog jump in a pond and go for a heron, causing it to fly off wailing. Doesn't help that there are signs about blue algal bloom that is deadly to dogs and harmful to humans everywhere, but they just jump in anyway. Once had to go to work with paw prints on my uniform when a dog randomly ran up to and jumped up on me while walking through the park to the shop. Was reading comics on the grass once when a dog came out of nowhere and started sniffing me. Felt really uncomfortable until a wee boy sheepishly came over and eventually managed to herd it away. by GoldenZWeegie (Wed 22nd Jun 2022 10:36am)

  • Went to meet my pal in the 'Spoons on Argyle Street on before going to the Cathouse Halloween party years ago. I was dressed as a Vulcan from Star Trek. Went to go in and I said hello to the bouncer, who looked me up and down, spotted my ears and said 'no Vulcans, mate.' I laughed and tried to go in when he stepped in front of the door, looked me dead in the eye and repeated '**No. Vulcans.**' Was a bit taken aback and phoned my friends who were already in. It was all 'no bother at all, in you go' when my friend who was dressed in a green fairy outfit came to ask what the problem was. Must have really hated Star Trek. Wonder if he'd let me in if I'd taken the ears off. by GoldenZWeegie (Tue 28th Jun 2022 9:08am)
  • We have neighbours who have a history of having loud parties. One night they set up a tent and had an all-night karaoke party without notice, blasting music and terrible singing. At about 3am, I called 101. About an hour later, a couple of cops arrived, went to the garden, had a wee chat with the people there then left. Shortly after, they started singing 'I Fought the Law'. by GoldenZWeegie (Wed 29th Jun 2022 9:06am)

Your best bet to is to ask a library assistant to see what's in the catalogue and ask them to order them in for you. You can download the Glasgow Libraries app to see if it's available at any branch. • Went to TRNSMT the year that The Killers headlined: 2018 I think? Arrived at midday and it was all completely fine and civil. The main acts for the day starting come on. Friendly Fires and CHVRCHES's audiences were fine. Franz Ferdinand was when things starting getting rowdy and The Killers audiences was full bam. Young kids talking and shouting at each other, constantly turning round to ask audience members what they were looking at, spraying drinks over everyone. Killers were great, but I don't want to experience that again. by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 4th Jul 2022 11:56pm)

  • It was The Killers that did it for me to avoid these massive events in the city. Woman squatted pshing against a food stand at the entrance, the couple in front of us having a full blown domestic, someone taking so much gear they blacked out, an entire group of people trading blows and having to get an entire squadron of security to forcible remove them, Brandon Flowers stopping the show to get security in to stop another fight. by GoldenZWeegie (Tue 5th Jul 2022 11:53am)
  • I asked my course head at UofG if they could put me in contact with some students on the course I was considering to give me an idea of what to expect and they said they would. Never did. Out of interest, how did you get into the sound recording gig? That was the area I wanted to pursue when I was still in the industry. Only got a few commercial freelance gigs as a recordist before I gave up. by GoldenZWeegie (Wed 6th Jul 2022 12:07am)
  • Sounds like you had a great experience. I worked at Procam while it still existed and it was one of the worst jobs I've ever had. They basically lied to me during the interview, saying that I would be working with equipment and helping on set when in reality I was made to deliver kit between Glasgow and Edinburgh multiple times a day. Most kit I worked with was sorting gels for panel lights. Worked us to the bone and treated us like shite. Ended up quitting on the spot when I fell asleep while driving. While working on film and TV sets, I'd chat to the sound people and express interest, but they never followed through with getting me onto further jobs with them. I joined the TV society at Glasgow uni, but never heard about projects even though I expressed interest in them and discovered that the clique that ran it were doing projects themselves without involving anybody else. I worked for about a year with an awesome DP doing sound for commercial projects, but I've not heard from them for a while now. Cheers for the insight and advice. It's interesting to see the different experiences and successes people have. I'm no longer pursuing a career in the creative industries, but hopefully your advice will help others along! by GoldenZWeegie (Wed 6th Jul 2022 12:55am)

  • Was walking along Sauchiehall Street yesterday, there was a group of about four wee guys, couldn't have been older than 17, skateboarding along, doing their business. Suddenly out of nowhere, an older man steps in between them and starts walking out in front of them. He nudges the first guy with his shoulder and gets in the face of the others with his arm stuck out, saying how they need to be watch where they're going with kids about it, even to the one who stopped and picked his board up. Said kids were standing by a tree in the middle of the street, nowhere near them. Shouted he'd batter them next time as they skated away. Reminds me of the time I was shouted at by my brother's neighbour for going up and down his car park in full protective gear when I was getting my footing. • Yeah, I've been finding gigs super loud recently as well. Combichrist was almost unbearable with how loud it was. I use the disposable Boots green foam ear plugs. Found they give the tightest fit and best overall protection after years of trying others. Use them for gigs and band practices. Venues are meant to have them for the public, but few rarely do. • Went to the Vue in St. Enoch's due to my Cineworld showing being canceled last night. Wasn't impressed. The snacks were low quality, the ice cream was chalky and the drinks that were actually available from the machine weren't mixed properly. The Diet Coke was pretty much just seltzer. Went into the cinema and had to clean grease off my seat before I sat down in my chair which I found uncomfortable. About 20 minutes after the showtime, the lights were still on. Shortly after, the lights abruptly turned off and the film instantly began. No trailers or warning or anything. After the film, none of the lights came back on, so we had to use the torches on our phones to get out the cinema. One of my party wanted to let a staff member know, but there was no-one about. We finally found one behind the counter and when they told them about the lights not coming on, they said 'that's fine'. Very bizarre experience. Now to try Empire in our quest to find a Cineworld replacement. by GoldenZWeegie (Wed 24th Aug 2022 8:36am)

  • I too went to Jordanhill decades ago and it was a horrific experience. My peers were fickle, cruel and nasty, resulting in five years of non-stop and innovative ways of bullying: I was cyberbullied years before it became a mainstream term. While I had two or three inspiring teachers, the majority were useless, egotistical and/or predatory, using any opportunity they could to belittle and demean students and hiding affairs from parents and students. While I was academically able, I stopped giving a shit towards the end of fifth year and just wanted out, leaving with mediocre results and an inferiority complex I've only recently been able to shift. It might be better nowadays, but my experience as a pupil there was fucking dreadful. I sometimes wonder if my life would have been better if I'd gone to Hyndland instead. by GoldenZWeegie (Wed 31st Aug 2022 6:34pm)
  • Feeling like shit today, so spent it in bed or on the couch. A chugger somehow got into my close. Didn't appreciate having to stand there like I was going to collapse while he tried to talk to me and my neighbour across the landing about guide dogs. by GoldenZWeegie (Wed 31st Aug 2022 6:38pm)
  • I'm sorry to hear that and I completely understand how you feel. Like I said, I was academically able and could have done well in exams, but the experience wore me down so much I just needed out of there ASAP. Sounds like a good outcome. I floundered around for years doing college courses and trying to work in the media which didn't go anywhere. I'm in uni now, have the first job that I like and where I'm treated like a human being and I feel like only now I'm in a place where life feels decent. Only just feels like I've shaken off the experience I had in school. by GoldenZWeegie (Wed 31st Aug 2022 11:51pm)
  • Spent a great deal of time and effort trying to sort out my work shifts after my uni schedule clashed with one of my working days, meaning I've spent the last few weeks worrying about whether or not I can keep my job. • Two friends and I have been meeting up at the same place at the same time on the same day pretty much every week for the last two years. They've both recently got girlfriends. One friend continues to meet up with me at the same time and place as they have done for years. We've also started doing things outwith this particular meetup. He tells me little bits of how his GF is doing and we pretty much do our thing as always. Our other friend has pretty much completely ditched us. Since seeing this person, they've become flaky to the point where we have to confirm if we're having our regular meetups or not as opposed to just showing up like we did before. They've pretty much stopped messaging us and when they do, it's almost always a last-minute cancelation. If they do turn up, the time and venue is often changed to the whims of the girlfriend and they often leave early when she's had enough. It sucks to have a catch up with friends you look forward to every week essentially finished because of one person. I get that people's partners are important aspects of their lives, but it's not nice to suddenly be pushed to the side by someone you considered a good friend as a result. by GoldenZWeegie (Wed 21st Sep 2022 12:29pm)

  • Yeah, both myself and the first friend have had it happen to us, where our partners controlled who we could see and when. I'm worried that they might be in a controlling relationship themselves. • Was the final event for my graded unit at college, the one that made up the vast majority of my final mark. Contacted TOH and let them know my requirements e.g. a projector, a screen, a PA and some seats. They said it was fine and we agreed a date, time and price and I got on with arranging and advertising the event. The night arrives and I turn up to find that while the venue is open, the room is completely empty bar a PA set up at the back. I'm told by the barmaid that this guy is looking after the venue and he's currently working in Stereo and will be over soon. About half an hour before the event is due to start, he comes in nonchalantly and says they don't have a projector or a screen set up. In fact, he's not even sure where they are and he'll go and have a look. I'm shown where the chairs are and so set them up in the centre of the room where I'm anticipating the projector will eventually be placed. The start time of the event arrives and people who have their tickets have started taking their seats with no projector set up. This guy finally comes in with one and tells me they don't actually have a screen. Because of this, the entire set up of the room needs to be changed, so I have to ask everyone to leave the room and wait in the bar until the room is sorted. There's only one wall that's flat enough to be projected on, so I have to move all the seats to awkwardly face the corner, all the while having to pop now and again to apologise to guests for the delay and let them know we'll be starting soon. Eventually things are set up and I get the event started about half an hour to 45 minutes after the scheduled start time. Everything went fine after that point, but paying money for such poor hosting and spending most of the evening worrying I was going to fail my graded unit wasn't fun. by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 4th Nov 2022 8:53am)

  • It was either rushing somewhere to get the perfect light or hanging around for absolutely ages while taking hundreds of pictures in the same pose for the perfect shot, which never came. Couldn't enjoy breathtaking scenery because we had to set up a camera that the person didn't know how to use instead of being there. Other people saw what we were doing and then asked us to take pictures of them for their Instagrams, so we were always taking pictures of random people as well. Had to wait for minutes at a time whenever we got food served to us as we had to take the perfect shot of a meal before we could actually eat it. I get that people want memories of their holidays, but it was too much. Just take a picture then enjoy being in the moment. • Drivers here are too horn happy. Seems like they'll find any excuse to blast theirs at you. Accidentally went the wrong way down a one way street near the 02 Academy. Single van on the left and no-one else. The second I entered the street, they honked me. Not just a toot though, they held that fucker down for a good 15, 20 seconds. Yeah, I know I've made a fuck up, you don't have to panic me while I correct myself. The best one was when a car on my left drove in front of me as I was going round a roundabout and they tooted *me* as if I was in the wrong. Can still see the scowl they gave me as they broke the highway code. I've started beeping back at people. Made a perfectly fine left turn into a main road and the guy behind me sped up and beeped me. Had to ironically put up with a group of guys yelling at each other that they loved live music while roaring over it. There's also absolutely no need to practically feel someone up when you're trying to get past them. • If I wasn't epileptic before the Ladytron gig at SWG3 last night, I certainly am now. Constant strobing light and visuals for an hour made it difficult to see the actual band and a poorly aligned projector made the back of the person in front of me's head my own personal Porygon episode of Pokémon playing inches from my face. First time I've felt physically ill because of strobing and had to dip out before the encore. Been to gigs where strobing's been used, but never literally for the entire thing. by GoldenZWeegie (Sat 11th Mar 2023 6:06am)
  • Only way to know for sure is to contact the venue beforehand. As a general rule of thumb, I tend to miss the support and aim to be at the venue for half 8 for a 9 start. by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 13th Mar 2023 10:06am)
  • I've pretty much lost interest in gigs. The tickets are too expensive, you can barely see if you're not seated or tall, the sound is usually terrible with that horrible 'vworping' bass sound you can feel, strobe lighting has become a major issue for me and there's an increase in people who treat it like they're at the pub, yelling conversations at each other so you can't actually hear the band onstage. I've been to something like two gigs since the first lockdown ended that have been worth the time and money, the rest have just been disappointing. Bloc Party, one of my favourite ever bands that I've seen every time they've come to Glasgow, recently played the Barrowlands. Tickets went on sale and I... just didn't get one. by GoldenZWeegie (Tue 14th Mar 2023 10:50am)

  • Would less cars on the road make buses, cheaper, cleaner, more reliable and less prone to sailing past people with their arms out. by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 20th Mar 2023 12:32pm)
  • There's a reason why the people who complain about it never use it...? Must be where you live. Where I am, it's a 20 minute walk to the train station where trains aren't very frequent. The buses are so unreliable that there's no guarantee they'll turn up anywhere near the time advertised on the board, which is made worse by the fact they went from a 5 times an hour service down to 4. It's cheaper than parking, but it's still extremely pricey for the sevice you receive. by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 20th Mar 2023 12:37pm)
  • That sounds great. Like I said, if this kind of device existed, I'd use my car far less! by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 20th Mar 2023 12:45pm)

  • I've noticed this happening a lot more frequently, particularly at Anniesland Cross. People will drive through when there's obviously not enough room to clear the junction, then sit parallel to traffic as the lights change. • Had an interview for a customer-facing job in an archive. Didn't get it because I was 'too interested in the archive side' and I 'didn't have enough customer service experience. Perhaps I should get work in a shop or a bar or volunteer in a shop in order to strengthen that side of my employability'. My current job involves working with customers and my 16 years in the workforce includes working in shops, bars, cinemas and theatres alongside a 12 year association with a certain charity shop. I was also told that I answered questions too quickly. I guess that's my fault for spending the week practicing for the interview and getting my answers ready in advance. How do you actually get jobs these days? Being interested in the area, having the rel bant experience and being prepared for the interview clearly isn't cutting it. by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 12th May 2023 9:24am)
  • And decent public transport? by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 12th May 2023 9:40am)
  • Most likely. Would have been nice not to waste time and get my hopes dashed if that's the case. I don't mind interview practice and feedback, but not when there's no actual chance of a job and the feedback given is useless and condescending. by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 12th May 2023 3:45pm)
  • I get that, but why not just say that in feedback? I'd rather have 'we went with another candidate because they had this, perhaps you could develop this aspect' rather than 'we clearly didn't read your CV or application and have come up with an condescending reason to reject you'. by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 12th May 2023 11:02pm)

  • Anybody else see An Inspector Calls at the Theatre Royal last night? Absolutely horrendous. Terrible melodramatic hammy acting, incoherent dialogue and a completely unbelievable way in which people interact with each other. No nuance whatsoever: the antagonists spoke and laughed like cartoon supervillains and the protagonist **SHOUTED IN THAT WEIRD SCOTTISH ACCENT YOU HEAR IN MEDIA THAT NO-ONE IN REAL LIFE ACTUALLY USES**. Was so unbearable we had to leave halfway through. The second absolutely awful play we've seen in Glasgow this year, the first being Wish You Were Dead which was so bad it was hilarious. God knows how these things are getting rave reviews when they're on par or even worse than am dram productions. by GoldenZWeegie (Wed 24th May 2023 9:18am)
  • Aye, was told it was a biting criticism of unbridled capitalism and the deleterious effect it has on the working class. • Yep, definitely the worst. Used to work for ATG as a team member, so I'd see a good 2 - 4 each week depending on the schedule. An Inspector Calls was absolutely horrendous. The second absolutely awful play I've seen in Glasgow this year, the first being Wish You Were Dead which was so bad it was hilarious. Went to see Young Frankenstein by am dram group Pantheon a few days later and it was a masterpiece. It's really saying something when amateur theatre is better than the stuff being put on by large theatre companies in large theatres. Saw Book of Mormon at the Royal earlier this year and that was cracking, even if one of the main characters was flat. by GoldenZWeegie (Sat 27th May 2023 10:23am)
  • Let me know what you think. Utterly unwatchable for me. I'm hoping we've just had a spate of going to see bad things and this isn't what to expect from big theatre companies now. by GoldenZWeegie (Sat 27th May 2023 2:14pm)

A police van drove across the cross and the two vehicles stopped to avoid colliding with each other. • It was actually terrible. If you're going to see it, go an hour after the start time. We wouldn't have been so annoyed if we'd gone at 9 rather than 8. by GoldenZWeegie (Thu 22nd Jun 2023 10:59am)
  • Went to the cinema to see The Wicker Man 50th Anniversary Celebration. The lights go down and instead of the film starting, a badly filmed recording of Edith Bowman on a stage plays where she begins talking about how amazing the film is before saying that there will be multiple interviews with people and performances from a folk band. This was followed by multiple film scholars and people involved in the making of the movie being interviewed and spoiling the film while saying they weren't going to spoil the film. Reece Shearsmith even jubilantly says at one poing 'I'm going to spoil the film!' Multiple clips of the film *we were literally about to watch* were shown and analysed and they kept having musical interludes with this band playing music from the film. The people in front of us laughed when, after the second performance, Edith said we'd have much more from them soon. Bored and annoyed that the entirety of the film was being spoiled and we were being told how to feel about the film before it had even been shown, I went to find a staff member to ask how long this was going to go on for. Many other people were doing the same, with many people either going out to do something more interesting or straight up leaving. I discovered that this segment of the film went on for over an hour, nearly the full runtime of the actual film. Soured by having to wait for a film that had been spoiled multiple times before it had even begun, I was so miffed I just left and will see about streaming it at home. The decision to put the bonus content at the beginning of the show was an exceptionally poor move. You're not only alienating the people who have never seen the movie before, you're also annoying the people who actually want to see the movie. I've been to several of these special events, including Apocalypse Now: The Final Cut and Parasite, which featured Q&As and analysis after the film once you've seen and digested it, never *before*. Very disappointing experience. Sorry for the rant, had to vent. by GoldenZWeegie (Thu 22nd Jun 2023 9:44am)
  • And there are also people who will be going in blind who haven't heard anything about it and have it completely spoiled for them. I tend to just browse the library and take out anything that seems like it'll be good. Some other recent stuff I've read that I'd recommend would be World War Z, The Outsiders, All Quiet on the Western Front and The Wasp Factory. Happy reading! by GoldenZWeegie (Sun 25th Jun 2023 12:21pm)

  • Last gig at Bellahouston I'll ever go to was the Killers. Got into the park and saw a woman squatting taking a pish right against a food stand at the main entrance. Found a good spot, then the couple in front of us started having a full on domestic, the woman accusing the man of sleeping with all her friends. Got so bad we had to move. Then during the gig, Brandon Flowers had to stop a song and ask security to sort out a full blown Brawl that was happening near the stage. Never again. by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 26th Jun 2023 10:33am)

  • Genuinely concerned that I've lost a friend after telling him that I didn't think much of Oppenheimer. Seemed genuinely shocked when I told him that I thought it was mediocre, too long and unfocused and shot choices were made with no reason in mind. Said I didn't know what I was talking about when I said I thought the female characters were poorly written and one-dimensional and the way characters spoke to each other wasn't realistic. Said that because Nolan had made masterpieces before such as Tenet (another movie I don't rate highly), he's simply incapable of making a bad film, I didn't know what I was talking about and that my opinion was invalid. I felt so browbeaten, I just wanted to leave. Usually we depart on a hug, but he just sat in his chair looking angry. As I left, he stood in the close lecturing me on how I needed to watch Tenet numerous times in order to understand Nolan's genius. It was a weird, hurtful reaction that came out of nowhere, especially when he hasn't actually seen Oppenheimer yet. by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 28th Jul 2023 10:09am)
  • I'm hoping so, just such a weird reaction to saying a film was decent, just not as good as the hype makes it out to be. He didn't seem to take into account me talking about the things I liked, just the thing's I didn't. Again Tenet was watchable, just not the masterpiece that he makes it out to be. He also said that The Dark Knight is shite, but I knew there was no point trying to say why it's my favourite film by Nolan so far by this point. by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 28th Jul 2023 10:26am)
  • Yeah, I didn't even say it was bad, just disappointing. All my reasonings and justifications of why I didn't like certain elements were just poopooed, which felt very disrespectful. • No, I liked the latest Indy and Mission Impossible and I loved D&D and Guardians 3. I reckon if it had been any other film his reaction wouldn't have been like that. • The fucking state of driving in this city. Crossing Anniesland Cross, in my lane, the car beside in the right lane nearly veers into me then honks *me* despite the fact I'm in the correct lane at the speed limit. Constantly overtaken by people doing what must be 50 on Crow Road and 70 through Drumchapel. I've been given the vicky and been subjected to the constipated barbarian in the rear view mirror dance because I deigned to follow the speed limit and signage to give way to oncoming cars. There's another thread recently that said that a lot of drivers are now just blasting through red lights and I can attest to that. Fed up with the driving standards here. Wish the powers-that-be would just pull the finger out and get a decent transport network sorted out so I didn't have to deal with this idiocy and aggro on the road. by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 18th Aug 2023 2:27pm)
  • You've just reminded me of the other day when the car behind me overtook 5 cars including myself at a red light, driving on the wrong side of the road for about 10 seconds just so they could be the first in the queue. Reckless. by GoldenZWeegie (Fri 18th Aug 2023 3:07pm)

  • Just another comment to confirm this. Was a runner for 6 years, no-one gave a shit about my education. Despite being able to film visuals and record sound, I was never offered more than basic gopher work. Worked with people who did one runner job before they were promoted to researcher. One person simply happened to be in the One Show office when a DP canceled, which was the first job in her burgeoning career. Also worked under the most rude and incompetent person I've ever had the displeasure of having to work with purely because she was friends with the exec producer. Skill, experience and competency < who you know, unfortunately. by GoldenZWeegie (Sun 20th Aug 2023 9:27pm)

  • That’s me done with mainstream theatre. Was super excited to see Ocean at the End of the Lane after seeing rave reviews and recommendations from a friend. Listened to some of the music beforehand and went in expecting a great show. Instead, what we got was a sub-am dram experience. Every single character spoke in that weird, irritating way where peopletalkreallyquicklyovereachotherwithnospacesbetweendialogue that no-ones does in real life. Since mics weren’t being used, everyone was just shouting at each other meaning that everything that was said had no emotion, inflection or time to breathe. The main protagonist spoke in such a whiny, singsong way, adding syllables to words for no reason that he was impossible to take seriously and the main villain spoke like a CBeebies presenter, coming across as more of a sassy, toothless Ursula clone as opposed to a credible, dangerous threat. Many characters also spoke in awful regional accents for no reason, making their lines even more unbelievable and them as characters unsympathetic. One scene which was meant to be an emotional scene of elevated tension was so melodramatic and hammy, I had to stifle myself from bursting out laughing. The music is astounding and the sets were interesting, but the action sequences were just as poor as the acting. Exploration and chase sequences amounted to people jumping about, Naruto-running around the stage and waving their hands all over the place akin to something you’d see children doing in a playground while playing Harry Potter. Am dram productions I’ve seen this year have had better choreographed and more interesting sequences than the ones on display here. While Wish You Were Dead was so bad it was good, this was as terrible as An Inspector Calls only unfortunately without the ability to leave due to a friend wanting to finish the show. I couldn’t care about any of the characters or see it through to the end. I am astounded by how this has rave 5-star reviews and insulted by the extremely poor quality of show that audiences are being delivered after paying nearly £50 for a ticket. Three recent shiters in a row means that I’ll be avoiding mainstream plays from now on. There’s much better stuff to be found more affordably in independent and am dram theatre in Glasgow. by GoldenZWeegie (Sun 3rd Sep 2023 8:04am)
  • I detested it and thought it was literally unwatchable. My friend who loves the book said it was okay despite the terrible acting. I overheard a couple of people who walked past me in the lobby say it was amazing. Seems to be no real consensus. by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 4th Sep 2023 12:12am)

  • If you play card games and are looking for a place to play, avoid Deeserts on Byres Road. Google says that they close at 11pm so we thought we had plenty of time to teach my friend how to play Magic the Gathering. Just after ten, a guy who I assume was the manager came over to us, rudely and bluntly told us that they were closed, that we had to leave and that they 'don't allow games'. In my job, we politely go over to customers to let them know that we're closing soon, not just bluntly and rudely kick them out. The 'not allowing games' thing is also just weird. We were harmlessly playing a card game while drinking the drinks and eating the desserts we'd bought. Can't fathom a reason why games wouldn't be allowed. Food was decent and it would have been a cool wee place to regularly play in, but after that weird rule announcement and the way it was delivered, we won't be back. by GoldenZWeegie (Wed 6th Sep 2023 6:50am)

  • The burden of proof lies on the person making the claim, not the person asking for it. Insulting someone because you have failed to provide resources not only dissuades them finding proof on their own initiative, it also sours them to your argument and shows that you don't actually have any evidence to prove your claims. • Always has been. Was assaulted randomly 4 times in two years when I was in school. Egged, mugged while guising on Halloween, kicked in the stomach and face coming back from lunch and punched in the face sitting in the playground of my school. The last one hit so hard, I lost a part of my eye. Last year my friend and I were in Victoria Park and there were kids throwing stones, rocks and logs at the Fossil Grove. My friend phoned the police to let them know (who told him that they were a known issue) and then they started lobbing rocks at us. An ambulance went past blaring its siren and they all scarpered like they thought it was the police coming for them. Later on as we walked around the park, they congregated in the kids play area where they started to scream abuse at and moon us from across the park. As we were leaving, one guy got right in our faces, spitting and screaming 'fuck off ya grassy cunts, ya fuckin' pricks', etc. by GoldenZWeegie (Mon 11th Sep 2023 9:33am)
