  • I lived without a car for most of my life, if you're near a train station or good bus routes it is fine. My last place in Glasgow (Springboig) was terrible for transport links. Having a car there was great. by Shakis87 (Sun 9th Jun 2019 8:48am)

  • I used to live in Dennistoun/Haghill area and soooooooo didn't consider this. It would be handy AF if sites like Right Move had lists of like "local disturbances". Parades, festivals any other regular/semiregular events that cause road closuers etc. I got stuck in my car 20m from my flat in the middle of the road. Couldn't go anywhere/park/turn around so literally had to sit there, throwing distance from my flat lol. by Shakis87 (Sun 7th Jul 2019 9:45am)

  • Python is a good language to know, it has applications everywhere. I am a junior Python dev myself and I feel like all the stars aligned just right for me to get this pure Python role. As I look at other jobs being advertised on job sites and linkedin etc it would seem that Python alone is not gonna cut it for most jobs. Javascript and .NET seem to be useful to have with Python under the belt. Disclaimer: no "real" research done on my part except job searching :-P by Shakis87 (Wed 17th Jul 2019 8:32am)

  • Hahaha aw man, how funny would that be 😃 by Shakis87 (Sat 14th Sep 2019 11:58pm)
  • I used to live there (currently im Carntyne temporarily). Do you know the big hill (Stepps Road) that comes down passes Cranhill then down again into Springboig, if you learned to drive there it's the road that goes down to the double mini round-a-bouts. (Springboig Road). Well every once in a while she'd be out lying down either on the road or just on the pavement. Before you know it there are blue flashing lights everywhere. It's the weekend, if you head up there now she is probably at it. 😂😂 by Shakis87 (Sun 15th Sep 2019 12:08am)

  • My ex used to do the Glasgow to Edinburgh commute for Uni I'll ask her where she parked and stuff to see if that helps you. She done it in a Celica too, not exactly an efficient car lol. by Shakis87 (Sun 15th Sep 2019 8:18am)
  • She parked for free here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/6aJVy5NGkoWGdgRD9 If you arrive and there is no parking there should be more on the other side of some houses apparently. by Shakis87 (Sun 15th Sep 2019 9:08am)
  • You're very welcome! P.s. motorway driving in a car is much better than city driving/short hops.. Especially diesels. It may not be as bad for your car as you think. What you would need to consider is the toll it would take on you. It can be a very stressful commute, especially if you're tired/stresses with deadlines at uni already! Personally I think I'd prefer public transport too, but when you listed the costs I was surprised! Best of luck! by Shakis87 (Sun 15th Sep 2019 9:35am)

  • No it is nothing new she has always been like this but it is escalating. Instead of asking someone for something directly she costructs a scenario and places items in places for you to see. You then need to try and work out what it is she wants. There will be a big story about it too. by Shakis87 (Mon 16th Sep 2019 10:57am)

I used to live not far from that hotel... cycled by it a few times and often seen folk less well off than I (not that I am well off mind you) hanging about outside so I can imagine that certain statistics could be skewed by it. Edit: inb4 someone says it isn't a hotel. by Shakis87 (Mon 23rd Sep 2019 12:46am)

  • There is something wrong with this image. Those cars are driving the wrong way. I'm not trying to be funny cos they're on the right. Look at the lane markings. The double dashed lines are give way essentially. Single dashed lines with the queue are for cars turning into the street I'm sure. Not sure who the real arsehole here is. Probably me for pointing it out. Cap. Killjoy signing off! by Shakis87 (Thu 28th Nov 2019 6:08pm)

  • Hey, until recently I lived in Madrid :D I'm from Glasgow (and have now moved back there) so I'm very bias haha. Glasgow is a great city, the night life is second to none. Housing is more afordable than Edinburgh (at least it was the last I looked). There is something for everyone. Although we are the biggest city in Scotland I personally don't think it has that big city vibe. Being a native Spanish speaker I'm sure you could find half decent jobs for that skill alone. I feel Glasgow is also very welcoming to non-nationals, especially recently with our yearning to remain European. I know you don't want a huge multicultural city, we kinda are but you'd be hard pressed to go a day without hearing broad Glaswegian everywhere you go. The upside is, you can find plenty of facebook groups should want to find a Spanish (or any other nationality for that matter) group. There are downsides to glasgow imo. Some areas can be quite rough, growing up in the east end I've seen some sights first hand but overall I'd say we are very friendly. Sorry I can't realy comment on the other places. by Shakis87 (Thu 28th Nov 2019 7:01pm)

  • I used to work in a home store and folk legit just took orders then come in and steal everything on the list. All the staff knew it happened, the people we worked for were such cunts that no one cared. • You can time your visits too. First/last weekends of the month most places will be extra rammed as those tend to be payday weekends. More "plain" pubs will see a surge in folk heading from the office straight to the pub. Old School House, The Ark, The Halls, Driftwood, all Weatherspoons etc... all rammed by Shakis87 (Fri 27th Dec 2019 11:34am)
  • I think the public transport is bad in comparrison to other EU cities though. Madrid's metro system is epic. Goes just about everywhere, cheap as hell to. In Prague you buy a transport ticket for however many hours yoy like, an all day lasts a full 24hrs. It does you on all transport, tram, train, bus itbis excellent. Also cheap as hell. I feel first bus have ripped the arse out of us for prices. I do love the rail line next to me. 1.90 to town. by Shakis87 (Tue 31st Dec 2019 10:15am)

  • Perhaps digging up parks to take their flowers is a little over the top, not sure how it is legally. Many of our parks have now swapped over to wild flowers to help restore natural wildlife habitats. A better option might be to take cuttings from the healthiest looking plants. Most plants can be chucked into a glass of water and will sprout roots within a few weeks. For best results you should leave the leafey part in some sunlight and wrap the glass in paper or something to shield the rootting part from the light. Many roots can be dammaged/stressed by direct light by Shakis87 (Wed 8th Jan 2020 8:58am)

  • Buy a cheap rusty old babger of a bike, that way when it is stolen the loss is smaller. The alternative is not to keep it in a public space. That's the sad truth of it. I've left my bike out my back under a cover without a lock for months at a time and it has been alright but that was in a quiet area. I had a friend on Duke street that had his bike stolen from the close. You just need to search gumtree to see the obvious stolen bikes. Was looking to get one since moving back to Glasgow, there was a guy in Cranhill selling 8 bikes, all £20 each... these were far from £20 bikes. by Shakis87 (Wed 8th Jan 2020 10:44pm)
  • IMO we are very welcoming, to everybody. Personally touristy people do not bother me in the slightest. I know that my friends have similar feelings. Glasgow is quite an international city, so we are used to meeting people from all over the world. If the worst comes to the worst, just say you're Canadian :P... only joking lol. You'll likely find some people are very interested in hearing where you are from and your back story etc. Feel free to turn to the person next to you in a bar and chat, but read the room. If they're not reciprocating, nip it in the bud and leave it alone. I'm just one person and obviously don't speak for everyone here but I'd probably tone down the military talk, not needed at all and probably frowned upon by a lot of people. Expect it to take a while for your ears to adjust to some accents here. Glasgow and the surrounding area's accents have a reputation of being harder to understand than most others but we do tone it down for folk. When I was in Michigan I had family translating English into English for me and I thought I had cleaned it up, it was an odd experience haha. I could be wrong here, maybe someone can clear it up for me: I think that The University of Glasgow might be better for History, Strathclyde is known for its engineering and computing. Second to none, perhaps. If/When you arrive you can probably jump back on here and see if anyone fancies a meet up. It seems some folk are into that here. Also, it's Wales. by Shakis87 (Thu 9th Jan 2020 11:33am)
  • Was gonna mention Rufus. I always findmyself ignoring the conversation and getting glued to the tele though lol by Shakis87 (Thu 9th Jan 2020 11:37am)
  • haha Sorry about the double correction, it took me so long to actually hit the post button. When I started typing no one had responded yet. It's the same as anywhere, different people have different tastes. We have a long and bloody history lol. When I was in school we didn't actually get taught much about Scottish hisotory. Got a bit about William Wallace, Robert Bruce and the highland clearances. Everything else was WW1 and WW2 pretty much. Depending on what part of history you study you might hit a wee gold mine with Scotland and the UK in general. Casltes up and down the isles, plenty of cross culture from Vikings to Romans. Ties with the French etc. We have a few neolitic settlements here too. The famous one being Skara Brae. Not the oldest in the world but they pre-date the great pyramid of Giza so not exactly young :P by Shakis87 (Thu 9th Jan 2020 11:55am)
  • RE the military: that is probably just my own biases/prejudices shining through. To be clear, I have no issue with people that put there lives on the line to ensure the safety of others. I was just a bit concerned about the whole 'world police' thing the US like to do. But you are right, no one would really care that you have a career in the military. Might not take to kindly if you walk about boasting about it. by Shakis87 (Thu 9th Jan 2020 12:11pm)

  • The card is a joke and doent work like you think it would. Iirc you need to buy tickets online, link your card to your online accont and then there is a wee thing in stations to tap the card against to 'load' the ticket you bought online onto the card. If you have the android app I think you can load tickets with your phone. Why you can't just buy a ticket straight onto the card fucking boggles me. It is far more straight forward to buy tickets from a machine if you don't need multiple tickets/weekly pass sorta stuff. by Shakis87 (Mon 13th Jan 2020 11:08am)

  • Paisely is very doable. I was living in the east end of Glasgow (Springboig) and going to the UWS in Paisley. I did drive most days but would often get the train an usually there were no stops between Central Station and Paisley Gilmore. They have a great observatory there which I visited once, it was cloudy so we went into the planetarium. It was cosy as hell, highly recommend. by Shakis87 (Wed 29th Jan 2020 11:40pm)
  • If there is no mention whether or not pets are allowed dont bring it up. I lived in a 'no pets' flat for over a year. Even had a maintenance guy come in while no one was in and he shat himself when the dog came to greet him lol. She is a huge white swiss sheppherd too. He reported back to the agency that he couldn't get access to the property because of the dog. They said nothing. We had several inspections and we just made sure the dog wasnt there. We had dog leads, treats, toys and a bed in plain sight too. Nothing was ever said. We kept the place clean and always paid rent on time... that seemed to be all they cared about. We gutted the place when we moved out but they were still a bit heavy handed on what they kept from the deposit for cleaning though. I'm not advising that you lie/breach contract etc... but it's an option lol. by Shakis87 (Wed 29th Jan 2020 11:50pm)
  • I have family in milton... fuck that for a game of soadgies. I've lived in Dennistoun/Haghill for a few year. Never had trouble here. I'd expect 'normal' rent for a 1 bed to be around 400-600 and a 2 bed 550-750. You can find cheaper if you wait/keep looking and there is plenty more places that cost more. I didnt bother increasing my maximum more than that on the rightmove filters though. Got everything I need in walking distance. by Shakis87 (Wed 29th Jan 2020 11:58pm)
  • A couple. Got jumped off of about 6-8 people after the catty one night for telling a ned that gave me cheek in the bistro to fuck off. Got my teeth kicked through my cheek, git a few paper stitches. Nurse just seen another drunk cunt and I didnt fet proper treatment. Ended up with a big puss filled balloon on my face for a while. This was years ago, had my long hair, full length double breasted leather coat and fingerless, metal studdied gloves on too haha. Wasn't as bad as it souds tbh but the drink probably helped lol. More recently, maybe 5 or so year ago I got sucker punched for no reason comming out of a pub. 2 neds just looking for a fight. My wee brother was with us. We fucking leathered them. Police came, everyone ended up in the jail that night. The cherry on top was that it was christmas eve. Had to phone my ma to come and pick us up from Stewart street station on christmas day. Makes for a good story in the right company though as it is totaly out of character for both of us hahaha. by Shakis87 (Thu 30th Jan 2020 12:14am)

  • When i was cycling to work i looked into getting one of these to help with pollution. Thing is they only stop the largest of particles, can't remember the size, like 15-20microns or something. It is the particles on the 2-5 micron scale that do the most damage iirc. Do fuck all for viruses which are hundreds of times smaller. Again. Moreover, medical masks are to help stop you spreading disease to others not the other way around. They probably do this by stopping you touching your mouth/nose as often and catching some water droplets that may otherwise leave your body. You'd really need to be in an isolated environment like a fucking space suit with your own air supply to really protect yourself from viruses etc. But then your stuck with your own farts. by Shakis87 (Fri 7th Feb 2020 1:32pm)

  • I was one of 3 primary carers for my granda before he died. I got a run of the mill cold, he caught it from me, 2 weeks later he was dead. I live everyday knowning that I was the cause of his death. During lockdown this is all I can think about whenever I see people out socialising, visiting friends and family. It must be terrible living with the thought that your granny might die before you get to see her again. by Shakis87 (Fri 1st May 2020 8:53am)

  • That was my original plan. I got my joggies and slippers, got to the bottom of the stairs and could hear a bit of a barney starting over a lighter. I thought if it turns bad I don't like my odds against 3 junkies, bottled it and went back inside lmao. I then thought about taking a chunky wooden kitchen utensil 'just in case'. No idea where that came from. Stupid 5am brain. by Shakis87 (Fri 1st May 2020 9:06am)

  • I was standing at the bottom of my close stairs in my joggies and slippers lisetning to them arguing over a lighter and this was the sort of thought that popped into my mind. I've never seena junkie win a fight, but I've never seen one lose either, they just keep getting back up like some smack fueled T-1000. I popped back in the house then considered taking something from my toolbox or kitchen 'just in case' but fuck that. • I think it is better under certain circumstances. I was thinking of switching from HTB ISA to the LISA. I think with LISA you can put as much as you like in at anytime up to £4000 over the course of a year (£333 per month) whereas the HTB is £200 per month but you could open it with £1400. I would really need to speak to an expert though, mostlt because it is a ballache trying to work it out for yourself lol. One thing to note though (not sure if this applies to the LISA too) but you only get the bonus after paying your deposit. You need to ask your solicitor to apply for it. This means that you cant use the bonus as part of your deposit unless you come to some kind of agreement with the seller. by Shakis87 (Thu 11th Jun 2020 10:47am)

I believe the tech support got slightly more than minimum wage with more again if you spoke a language they need. On some occasions we'd try to find work arounds for issues people encountered. I've got a crack that runs from the living room door, up the wall and along the ceiling a bit, totally rolled on my office chair to the sode of the room I thought wouldn't fall off with the rest of my living room lololol. The only lasting issue was the smell of stale brick that hung about for a week or two. by Shakis87 (Tue 1st Dec 2020 12:06pm)

  • I would go for the cheaper option. It is nice to say, "hey look I have a masters" but having a portfolio of personal projects you can exhibit to potential employers is much better. The reason I say go for the cheaper option is that both courses probably offer a very similar learning opportunity. You can then take what you learn and apply that knowledge in personal projects. Several developers I work with have basically no formal qualifications but had quite the back catalogue of personal projects to show off. In saying that though, the work I do isn't exactly super specialised so maybe you are looking for somethig more specific. by Shakis87 (Sun 7th Feb 2021 12:17pm)

  • I honestly think some cyclists are the most vacuous people around. I've seen so many seriously fuck up at the junction outside my flat. It isn't just their own life they're playing with when running reds. I've seen them ride out in front of ambulances with their lights on. Near misses with prams crossing at a green man. And just narrowly avoiding death when running reds. Seen one guy run a red, nearly went right under a car coming round the corner. He shat himself, got flustered trying to stop then fell off his bike. So there he is rolling abiut the floor hilding all the traffic up. by Shakis87 (Sun 16th Jan 2022 9:40am)
  • Yeah, probably because I sound pro-car, anti- cyclist which I'm not, quite the opposite actually haha. I'm more anti-dangerous-idiot by Shakis87 (Sun 16th Jan 2022 10:42am)
  • I do see a lot of dodgy driving too but I don't regularly see vehicles run blatant reds. Sure you see suspect ambers in the regular but never have I seen a car pull up to a red then just chance it. When the green man comes on I'd feel safer stepping out in front of a car than a bike (not that I'd do either). I don't want to say it is the majority of cyclists that do this but it is so frequent that it can't be a small minority by Shakis87 (Sun 16th Jan 2022 10:40am)
  • I like the idea. I can imagine the cost and disruptuon would be huge though. Plus it is potentially an issue for busy junctions and emergency vehicles. by Shakis87 (Sun 16th Jan 2022 11:59am)
  • Please quote the text where I said that so I can correct my mistake. I think you may be referring to the part where I said I'd feel safer stepping out in front of a car than a bike when the green man shows but I'd step out in front of neither. My reasoning for this is in the past week (although feel free to extend this to ny time period) I have personally witnessed a dozen or so cyclists running reds. I've seen a few cars drive though some questuonable ambers, but no reds. by Shakis87 (Sun 16th Jan 2022 3:07pm)
  • Okay I'll accept that late ambers often turn red before a car goes through. My point hinges on the fact that a cyclist will run a blatantly obvious, hasn't changed colour in 15 seconds, red. So if I see a cyclist coming towards me when I'm crossing at a green man that has been on for a good 5-6 seconds more often than not the cyclist continues straight through while people are crossing. They don't just do it with pedestrians crossing either. I legit see them trying to avoid turning trafic becaise theu've ran a normal red. You just don't see that carry on half as often with vehicles because that'd just be a blood bath. by Shakis87 (Sun 16th Jan 2022 4:22pm)
  • Until all vehicles have stopped and I'm convinced it is safe, yes. That is generally how I use a crossing. by Shakis87 (Mon 17th Jan 2022 11:25am)
  • No one is arguing that the stakes are the same, obviously cars are more likely to be deadly if they hit someone. In a an accident I'd bet the odds of injury are about the same, even if the severity is different. Just because one mode of transport is less deadly doesn't mean they are allowed to act less responsibly. All road users should be reading from the same hymn book, e.g. Stopping at reds by Shakis87 (Mon 17th Jan 2022 11:33am)

  • I get that it iss more deadly, I even said that. That isn't even the point I'm arguing. Just because something isn't deadly doens't mean I want to experience it. I wonder how many of those deaths are caused by running a red. by Shakis87 (Mon 17th Jan 2022 4:23pm)

  • I think you're shit out of luck. I used to live above a shop who bolted a compressor onto the brick under my bedroom window. When clunking on and off it was enough to wake you. It shook the whole flat but you really noticed it at 3 - 4 in the morning. I could feel my bed and pillow vibrating, it was torture. Made a noise complaint, guy from the council was out that night which was mad. Council said it was agains building regulation to have the comprrssor bolted directly onto brick without shock absorbers, it shouldn't be on the front of the building either and they didn't havr planbing permission. This arguably breaches one or two human rights too, the right to peaceful enjoyment of your home or something. Sounds like an open and closed case right? Anyway, council passed it to the planning team, that was the last I hrard of that ended up having to leave before I done something stupid. by Shakis87 (Thu 24th Mar 2022 7:53am)
  • From very rough googling looks like a spark's day rate is about £250. I've replaced an inline switch before (not a socket on the wall) and it was like a 2 minute job. Let's say 10 switches/sockets is a 2 hour job and hourly rate is £30, I dunno if there'd be a call out charge but let's call that £50. I'd guess <£110 Personally I'd be right on youtube to see how it's done safely and properly and if it didn't look too daunting that is definitley something I'd try on my own. I own various odd tools including screwdrivers and wirecutters so other than the parts I don't think I'd need to factor in the cost of tools. by Shakis87 (Thu 24th Mar 2022 11:52am)

You're not gonna find super fancy restaraunts, hair dressers etc in poorer areas. In poorer areas you'll usually find more chippies and bookies than other areas. So it sort of appears that the level of deprivation does start to shape thr area. by Shakis87 (Sun 3rd Apr 2022 7:12am)

Phoning the fire brigade to come out and check this is a collosal waste of time and resourses especially if the door opened and the smoke alarm went off. Wouldn't be surprised if it cost the equivalent of several thousand pounds per call out. No doubt there was a Da doing the tea towel wafting while the door was open too. Not only that but imagine there was an actual fire and these guys are called out to check if someone is burning their dinner. If you are too scared to chap their door, hang your head out the window. • There are two things I'm not sure I get. >It shits out fast numbers of people whos minds, behaviours, and lifestyles do not fit the pre-existing norms of a white supremacist capitalist patriarchal system You're saying that academic institutions produce people who are not white supremisist patriarchs, and this is bad? Either it is too early for me or this is worded strangely Secondly, academic research is widely shared peer reviewed etc. Granted if you want access to a specific journal usually you need to pay but it is out there. Google scholar is a good place to start or maybe even asking a librarian. I wouldn't call academia an elitists club, especially in Scotland where it's free. Where they encourage open mindedness, to think further afield and broaden your horizons. You can't get annoyed at people missing your point when you drop a bomb like that. You did go on to correct that though and in the process call anyone that went to uni a white supremisists. • Im happy to see more cycle routes. Making it easier for folk to get around without the need of a car (in my uneducated opinion) has got to be easier than target car owners directly to reduce traffic. Our infrastructure in general is pretty poor. I'm a 40 min walk to george square, not super central but I still cant get better than like 150mbps internet. I lived in the arse end of Madrid and had fibre optic into the flat. Although they do have loads of wires hanging over streets etc so no need to dig up roads. In the few major EU cities I've been to you can buy one public transport ticket and use it on all public transport: train, tram, bus, metro. You buy a 24hr public transport ticket and it literally lasts all day. I don't even know if it is possible to buy an "All Day" and use it for 23hrs lol. I will say though that our general niceness here far outstrips anywhere I've been. Maybe I was just unlucky and met all the arseholes everywhere else but you can pretty much stop and ask anyone here for help and they'll do their best to help you. Same for the most part in shops and on the phone. You don't tend to get that in the places I've been. Or maybe I just remember the bad ones more lol. by Shakis87 (Thu 11th Aug 2022 10:44am)

Bugger if you want to change supplier though. All for this kinda thing though. I'm not aware of the building projects you have mentioned though. I really only see the big area just north of the M8 being built but I don't travel all over Glasgow all too often. Any chance of a link or two to the new housing estates and shopping centres? by Shakis87 (Tue 15th Nov 2022 5:47pm)
  • And are they private builds or government funded? I'm struggling to find the new build online you dont happen to know the name of the contracted builders do you? I'm hesitant to point at old projects and say they are bad because they don't meet our current goals/targets etc which is why I'm more interested in the new build. The new development just north of the M8 is taking modern practices in to account with open spaces, walkimg and cycle routes etc. I get your point about the Paisley one (although can't fimd details) but if it is walking distance to the train station I'd say that is okay. Yes a single family detached houses are less efficient than stacking 6 families in the same space but I don't think that only building flats/tenements is the solutuon there. I have definitely come off as contrary here becuse I want a house with a driveway and front/back gardens etc. I want solar and wind generation, big battery to store, EV and charger etc. Basically wanting energy independence. To do all of that in a shared social space would get contentious. Moreover, I've lived in a flat all bar about 5 years of my life and I'm just sick of having neighbours above and below. I lived above a shop for years it was murder, their fridge compressors may or may not have driven me to vandalism after a year of shit sleep and nothing being done etc. So I am a bit jaded when it comes to living in close quarters, not that I'm against it. by Shakis87 (Tue 15th Nov 2022 6:45pm)
  • 8 times faster but takes twice as long to download, definitely a scam :-P Check to see if theu have the same deal online but peraonally I'd stay away from talk talk, 3 bad experiences from family members. I think you're best using an online comparison site if you're gonna change provider but keep in mind they get a kickback for signing you up too so it might not be tje most ideal deal for you by Shakis87 (Sat 26th Nov 2022 9:57am)

  • Can't recommend this enough (because it worked out well for me). My work also hired a guy who's experience was basically a django course and he is great. There is still seemingly a huge shortage of developers too. If you get a linked in amd set it to open to new opportinities you'll be like chum in shark infested waters, the recruiters will come circling by Shakis87 (Thu 1st Dec 2022 8:55am)
  • I was in my early 30's but I was on an unrelated masters course that helped me, so slightly different circumstances. However, the guy I work with I would guess is a few years older than you, around early/mid 40s (at a guess) by Shakis87 (Thu 1st Dec 2022 9:02am)
  • Usually I'd say an hour is plenty of time but the last few times I've flown (most recently in the summer) there were big queues at security. You'd probably be fine but personally I'd want at least an extra half hour to be sure. Buses can be a pain. If you can't get someone to give you a lift I'd go the taxi route, £25 is worth the peace of mind imo by Shakis87 (Fri 2nd Dec 2022 1:39pm)

I used this site https://www.cheapcarrecovery.co.uk/ But it is more for recovery and the guy that said he'd recover me is currently ghostin me but you might havr more luck. A second guy got in touch this morning too but I'm gonna try a new battery, think my aternator is fucked but a full battery should be enough to get me home by Shakis87 (Sat 17th Dec 2022 11:14am)

  • Hit a pot hole and the bottom of the doors took the impact. Mental. On a more positive note I feel like for the last few months there have been lots of repairs getting made wjere whole sections of road are being replaced rather than just filling the hole in. Seen lots of repairs all over glasgow so feel like they're finally starting to address it. by Shakis87 (Sat 7th Jan 2023 10:51am)

  • Apparently blonde sandstone buildings are older. Mid to late 1800s. A railway line opened in the late 1800s/early 1900s and the red sandstone could be imported from a bit further away and are usually a bit younger. Edit. Doesn't answer your question, sorry. Just find it kinda cool. by Shakis87 (Fri 17th Mar 2023 11:26pm)

  • Mesa on Duke street, Dennistoun is possibly the best cafe I've ever eaten in. Scran too but I can't remember where they moved to. Both in the east end so might be out of your way. Lidl and Aldi are both amazing imo, they are generally smaller than tesco though. I know how petty this sounds but when tesco announced they were removing the saltire (the Scottish flag) from things grown/produced in Scotland I stopped shopping there. I think they've since back tracked on that though. by Shakis87 (Tue 4th Apr 2023 7:54am)
