  • The worst arsehole dog owner incident I saw was in Kelvingrove Park last summer. There was a group of Muslim women sitting around a blanket having a picnic and this dog went running straight into their picnic and started eating whatever it could find. The women were screaming and kicking the dog and throwing things at it and the owner was just standing shouting with a really weak voice. What a prick. by human_totem_pole (Thu 2nd Jul 2020 12:24pm)

  • Another bit of trivia. Some of the The Braidbar quarries at Giffnock were mined using a 'stoop and room' system which left vast underground voids. After the quarries closed, the voids were filled with toxic waste from Dixon's Blazes and Beardmore's foundries. The whole lot is now filled with water and the tunnels are beginning to collapse. Some poor people around the quarry edge can't sell their homes. Some developers have offered to remediate the mines but no one has been able to commit to such a massively expensive project. It's a ticking time bomb. by human_totem_pole (Sat 15th Aug 2020 10:43am)

  • There's black communities all over Glasgow all from different backgrounds and cultures. Folk here just tend to get on with life and it's a pretty chilled city in general. Even if you move to a predominantly white neighbourhood, you won't have any problem. Obviously, there are the occasional nut jobs but they're few and far between and your neighbours will batter them if they give you any grief. • This is over simplified, but I get the impression that Glasgow Council has been stuck in some kind of perpetual austerity since the global financial crash of 2007-2008. I genuinely struggle to think of a 'success story' where residents have collectively benefited from a council initiated project. All of the money and effort gets diverted towards fighting fires (often literally) and mopping up the fallout from poverty and addiction. • Have you reported this to the police? by human_totem_pole (Fri 13th May 2022 9:45am)
  • I'm not in the know, hence the reason I asked about the police. So, let me get this straight: You have evidence of trafficked women being exploited for sex, you have reported this to the police but they haven't followed it up? Can I ask how it was reported? Over the phone, email, at a police station? I'm happy to follow this up. by human_totem_pole (Fri 13th May 2022 12:38pm)
  • I take your point but there's a big difference between choosing to sell sex and being forced into it. by human_totem_pole (Fri 13th May 2022 12:52pm)
  • No need to apologise - this discussion has been a real eye opener. I'd appreciate it if you could send me some more information about corruption within Police Scotland. Thanks for this interesting information. by human_totem_pole (Fri 13th May 2022 12:58pm)
  • I'll do that. As long as I can separate the corruption from the incompetence, low morale, underfunding, racism and other forms of bigotry which I'm confident exists in the police force. Look at the shit that's floating up from the Met in London. by human_totem_pole (Fri 13th May 2022 4:26pm)

  • Agreed. I want to know that train crews in charge of many hundreds of people are qualified to a high level and paid appropriately. I'd put train drivers up there with commercial pilots in terms of responsibility. by human_totem_pole (Wed 25th May 2022 11:29am)
  • Transport Infrastructure. Buses are cold, damp and dirty in winter. Stifling and dirty in summer. Most expensive in the UK. Roads are rammed and the 50 year old motorways are literary crumbling away. We don't even have a train company than can run trains. Embarrassing. by human_totem_pole (Sun 29th May 2022 9:04am)
  • Good on you. There are also charities who offer counselling to bereaved youngsters. Not specifically what you're after, but tremendously important at that stage in kid's lives. by human_totem_pole (Sun 29th May 2022 9:09am)

  • I wouldn't trust the council. They will probably burn down your loft and build student flats. by human_totem_pole (Tue 7th Jun 2022 4:02pm)
  • Got a Glasgow Taxi from Buchanan Street Bus Station a few weeks ago and the driver was at the end of his tether. He talked the whole way back about how taxi drivers are being fucked by the council over low emissions zones, step free access, cycle lanes etc, etc. Most of his mates had packed in taxis and started working for Amazon & DPD. by human_totem_pole (Wed 8th Jun 2022 8:54am)

  • There's loads of it growing along the banks of the River Cart through Pollok Park. Just think of it as a giant jaggy nettle - leave it alone and it won't do you any harm. The media gets so hysterical about it, you'd think that it chases after school children. by human_totem_pole (Thu 23rd Jun 2022 9:34am)
  • Not pathetic at all - pretty normal actually! Life isn't like TV or the movies where every cunt is swanning about with 50 mates, seven nights a week. I can count on one hand my close friends and that's not anything to do with me, it's just that there's loads of fannies out there. You'll be OK man. by human_totem_pole (Thu 23rd Jun 2022 4:25pm)
  • Everywhere is beginning to look the same. I was walking through Newton Mearns a few months ago - the area just North of Patterton train station. It was all fields 10 years ago and now it looks like one of these generic retail areas you find all over the South of England: Waitrose, Tesco Express etc. That's what I can't stand - the loss of local personality, charm and character to generic architecture and planning. I'm sure it's the same cunt that designs all this pish. by human_totem_pole (Fri 24th Jun 2022 9:10am)

I've never driven a bus (I've worked in public facing jobs) but bus drivers are at the sharp end of dealing with the public while also managing crap pay plus the technical aspects of driving an unreliable machine full of mad cunts through crazy traffic. The people of Glasgow are known for their warmth, humor, and welcoming nature. They are proud of their city and its rich cultural heritage, which includes everything from the city's industrial past to its contributions to the arts and music. The people of Glasgow are also actively involved in shaping the city's future, through initiatives such as community projects, arts and cultural programs, and urban development plans. As a result, Glasgow has transformed into a modern and dynamic city, while still retaining its unique character and charm. In short, the people of Glasgow are an integral part of what makes the city special and worth visiting." Can't argue with that. by human_totem_pole (Sun 26th Mar 2023 3:55pm)

  • Great that your going to tackle the garden! Some tips: Jot down the design on paper or using some online drawing apps. Create a free My RHS account - it's great for tracking which plants you have and how to care for them. If you have space, get a small compost bin. Start it off with soil and worms if you can find some. Layer with vegetable scraps and you get free potting compost after about a year. Think about how much maintenance you're prepared to do. A wildflower meadow is beautiful but it will need weeded and cut back. You could grow some plants in containers rather than directly planted and have gravel paths around the containers. Make sure you used anti-weed fabric under the gravel. What direction does the garden face? This is important as some plants thrive in direct sun and some prefer shade. Climbing plants are beautiful (Clematis, Ivy etc) if you have a wall where you could attach some trellis. Any space for raised veggie beds? by human_totem_pole (Mon 5th Jun 2023 12:20pm)

  • Yeah, get it tested. The original lining is a kind of vitrified half pipe (can't remember the proper name) and the mortar between the joints can fail and the smoke leaks . If the original lining and mortar is sound you might not need it lined. A chimney sweep or fireplace installer will light a smoke bomb in the hearth and check other flats and attics for any leakage. by human_totem_pole (Sat 10th Jun 2023 12:03pm)

  • I think what's happened is the volume of rainwater has overwhelmed the gutters or down pipes (possibly blocked) and the rainwater has overflowed onto flat / glazed areas where water doesn't normally pool. The waterproofing on the flat areas has failed and let the rainwater in. As others have said, when you get such a high volume of rain in a short time, you get water flowing into areas with weak protection. The old building isn't fit for purpose as a hospital and it may be more cost effective to build a new facility versus fighting a losing battle to keep the old place running.
