  • Local meedja mate. They can get it sorted because the council won't want the publicity. Get your best compo face ready. by loronboron (Thu 12th Aug 2021 10:55pm)
  • There was some mad anti Vaxxer protest around there today... by loronboron (Sat 14th Aug 2021 4:24pm)
  • Popworld on Renfield Street is the place to go after if you're still standing. by loronboron (Sun 22nd Aug 2021 8:07pm)
  • Tbh you would probably be cheaper booking a Travelodge or the Easyhotel the cost of taxis in Glasgow at the weekend. At least you've not got far to go and there's probably a breakfast the next morning. by loronboron (Sun 22nd Aug 2021 8:12pm)
  • Many a time I've done this - usually at Christmas tbf - and ended up just going for the first train home. by loronboron (Sun 22nd Aug 2021 8:19pm)
  • Relics. You name it, he's got it. Broken 1950s style radios with nae plugs? He'll have it. Dolls with missing limbs? He's got it. You'll need a day off work for this place. by loronboron (Sun 22nd Aug 2021 8:41pm)
  • I think there is definitely a link between the show and the nightclub chain. There are also equally dreadful establishments in Liverpool and Newcastle. by loronboron (Tue 24th Aug 2021 1:19pm)
  • I get the megabus to work in Glasgow from Edinburgh and at the moment the roads are absolutely fine. It's worse coming into Glasgow but it's literally for like 5 minutes. It's actually more convenient for me as I live in west Edinburgh and I can get the bus in Corstorphine which cuts out having to go through town in the morning/evening which is often a pain in the arse. You can still do all the things on a megabus as you can on a train and it's significantly cheaper as well. The train is a rip off. by loronboron (Tue 24th Aug 2021 1:49pm)
  • Is that... is that bird shite on the living room floor? by loronboron (Thu 26th Aug 2021 8:58pm)
  • I never thought I'd have much sympathy for pigeons as they can be wee bastards at times too but the poor wee shites have nothing on seagulls. I regularly see the ones on Sauchiehall Street scoping out the resident pigeons for a tasty lunch time snack. A homeless guy once rescued a pigeon from the jaws of a seagull. It was a great thing to see. by loronboron (Sat 28th Aug 2021 10:34am)
  • NineTwenty is a good agency that has jobs from all specialisms like marketing so worth getting in touch. by loronboron (Sun 5th Sep 2021 11:00am)
  • Get in touch with Living Rent mate. You'll need to join - it's like a fiver a month. Unfortunately so many landlords don't give a shit about mould and will just tell you to keep your windows open - even in January. It's such a quick bloody fix as well. https://www.facebook.com/LivingRentGlasgow by loronboron (Mon 6th Sep 2021 11:45am)
  • The infuriating thing is, the longer they leave a problem like mould, the worse it will get longer term. by loronboron (Mon 6th Sep 2021 6:06pm)
  • I once met Marti Pellow in the boots on byres road and also, while not strictly a Glasgow celebrity, Marvin from the popular BBC reality show, The Scheme. by loronboron (Wed 8th Sep 2021 8:23pm)
  • He sounds like a new arsehole and forgot he had an old one. by loronboron (Wed 8th Sep 2021 8:24pm)
  • Also was in the car park of the Ek shopping centre circa Christmas 2003 and ma dad was driving this fuckin 1991 Kia pride that we used to have to get out and push every time it started when he spotted Arthur Newman walking towards our absolute shiter of a car. He said "There's Arthur Newman!" And he drove a bit faster, rolled down his window and just said "Awrite Arthur, hows it going?!" And arthur just nodded and smiled and I don't think I've ever seen him happier. In 2001 my maw and her pals took me and their weans on an anti drugs march through Glasgow. They'd got the idea the night before when they were pished and had to follow through with it because they'd told us the shows would be there. There was all these celebrities there including none other than Jimmy Saville. We saw them at the buffet in the peoples palace and it was an iconic moment until we found out he was a paedo. by loronboron (Wed 8th Sep 2021 8:33pm)
  • In terms of the deposit and how castle residential have fucked you over, I'd advise getting in touch with Living Rent. They won't be able to provide accommodation but they'll take the fight to the bastards. by loronboron (Wed 8th Sep 2021 8:47pm)

  • I'm not. It wouldn't be that long a walk. The city centre car parks are a rip off. by loronboron (Sun 12th Sep 2021 1:06pm)
  • Shite advice - the op could get done for wasting police time. I'd contact your local councillor, if that doesn't work, your local MSP, if that doesn't work, a list MSP and if that doesn't work, the local press. If none of these things work, get out and slash their tyres one night. by loronboron (Mon 13th Sep 2021 9:39pm)
  • The Britannia panopticon at the Trongate but they only do ceremonies I think by loronboron (Wed 15th Sep 2021 6:39pm)
  • That's a poor show from women's aid but for the sake of this lassie's safety (I wouldn't give away specific location as that arsehole may be lurking) would a friend not be able to take the cats temporarily until she gets sorted? by loronboron (Sat 18th Sep 2021 7:40am)
  • Came here to say this. I'd go as far to say it's the best Indian in Glasgow. Not the kind of place that does vouchers though probably by loronboron (Thu 23rd Sep 2021 8:34am)
  • I think it could well be. Sex shops aren't as much of a thing in Scotland as they are in England and I think it has a lot to do with that old presbyterianism that still infiltrates a lot of our culture. by loronboron (Thu 23rd Sep 2021 7:38pm)
  • Awww the Rangers da's are getting triggered 😂 by loronboron (Fri 24th Sep 2021 12:25pm)

  • Have you tried places near Glasgow that aren't necessarily Glasgow? There's Paisley which has good transport links or places like Rutherglen, Giffnock, Newton Mearns, Stepps, Coatbridge etc by loronboron (Thu 7th Oct 2021 11:31pm)
  • Probably SPUC nutjobs. They usually have a protest around this time of year. by loronboron (Sat 30th Oct 2021 10:04am)
  • I think fighting for better pay and conditions for dealing with dead rats floating in bins, being scratched and bitten, being abused by members of the public for decisions beyond their control, staff cuts, health and safety concerns is a good enough reason to down tools. by loronboron (Sun 31st Oct 2021 9:52pm)
  • Did ye aye? by loronboron (Mon 1st Nov 2021 9:51am)
  • I don't hate ordinary council workers, certainly not enough to grass on them. What is it you're hoping to achieve with this? by loronboron (Mon 1st Nov 2021 10:01am)
  • No, not really but it's usually a word used by folk outside of Glasgow to describe those from Glasgow (have to born and bred there, not simply live there). Someone from Glasgow wouldn't call themselves a weegie. by loronboron (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 5:48pm)
  • Pretty sure council tax is more expensive in Edinburgh as well. I've lived in both cities on a similar monthly salary and I definitely had more spare cash when I lived in Glasgow. by loronboron (Fri 5th Nov 2021 5:25pm)
  • Paisley. You can get a decent flat in the centre for half what you might pay in Glasgow. There aren't a lot of shops but there is a lot of nice wee pubs and coffee shops opening. They're also regenerating the old museum and library and there's a lot of students too. I moved from Paisley nearly two years ago and get very homesick for it. by loronboron (Tue 9th Nov 2021 9:39pm)
  • Taking cash and having two or three kitties on the go will make the bar staff's lives much easier. A kitty is where you put x amount of money each in and buy the drinks from there rather than rounds. Having two or three folk nominated to go to the bar at a time will be far easier than a beleaguered barkeep trying to put together an order for 15 people. Additionally, the wee pubs on the Southside can be great - much cheaper than the west end pubs. The only one I would consciously avoid is the Ibrox Louden. I don't know what it's like now it has been taken over but ten years ago when I last did a subcrawl it was grim as fuck. Like the bookies from Trainspotting. Definitely don't be afraid to eat something when you're about halfway round, say, Partick because you'll be really leathered and that will soak things up a bit. Oh aye and get a day ticket on the subway instead of individual tickets. You can use it as many times as you like. Get a responsible person to keep them safe and dish them out at every stop. by loronboron (Wed 10th Nov 2021 9:22am)
  • Came here to say that 😂 by loronboron (Thu 11th Nov 2021 10:21pm)
  • As much as I don't think this should be going ahead, I'm pretty sure you need to submit planning objections through the council's portal on the website. All this does is send an email to the department and is probably a data mining exercise given there's a local election in a few short months... Google glasgow City Council and search the reference number. by loronboron (Thu 11th Nov 2021 10:57pm)
  • I don't actually know what you're trying to say here, it's pretty incoherent but I deal with planning applications pretty regularly and that's the way objections have always been submitted 🤷‍♀️ the good news is that if there is enough objections from the public then these controversial developments from developers tend to get turned down. by loronboron (Thu 11th Nov 2021 11:18pm)
  • No it wasn't. Some people might not want to give their data to a political party so its useful to have alternatives. Best of luck to you mate. Maybe you should stop taking everything in such bad faith and calm down. You make more pals with honey than with vinegar. by loronboron (Fri 12th Nov 2021 12:04am)
  • This may shock you but I am also a woman so thanks for assuming my gender 😊 by loronboron (Fri 12th Nov 2021 12:19am)
  • Where the fuck do you get a tank in Glasgow that's my question and did anyone else see the two soldiers (or at very least guys dressed in full camo) holding a flag that said "no surrender"? Lots of questions to be asked here. by loronboron (Sun 14th Nov 2021 9:47pm)
  • The Doublet is a stones throw away and their upstairs lounge has a brilliant juke box. Not sure if it's still the same since it changed hands. Nice n sleazys is my all time favourite Glasgow pub. Variety is meant to be good as well. Libertine at Charing Cross is a good shout too. For something with actual live music, I do rate blue dog. It's pricey though. by loronboron (Sun 14th Nov 2021 10:54pm)
  • The great thing about Glasgow is that despite being a big city, it has loads of parks and you're never more than a mile away from one, probably. by loronboron (Sun 14th Nov 2021 11:45pm)
  • Everybody has a CHI number. It starts with your date of birth and then four other numbers. You can call up your GP and they will give you it over the phone. That or it is always printed on hospital appointment letters or prescriptions. by loronboron (Tue 16th Nov 2021 11:05am)
  • That's John Lewis by loronboron (Wed 17th Nov 2021 9:15pm)
  • You don't have to know any councillors. You just look up your local one and write to them about the issue and they'll look into it. All the info is on the council website. Pick an opposition Councillor and things will get done faster. They will be used to this kind of issue. by loronboron (Thu 18th Nov 2021 2:04pm)
  • Only tag the news outlets if you would be up for speaking to a reporter and getting a picture taken about it because they will contact you. by loronboron (Thu 18th Nov 2021 2:06pm)
  • I'm shocked at some of the comments on this thread because I thought this sub was quite a forward thinking place. I think it's risible to suggest these folk are better off than us. I've got a full time job. I earn enough to keep a roof over my head and put three meals a day on my table and have a nice meal out once a month or so. I can buy myself a new coat if I ever need one or for a bigger purchase, stick it on my credit card. These people don't have that luxury. They live a hand to mouth existence as well as putting up with all the shite from judgemental pricks. Why would someone willingly sit in the pishing rain on a soggy bit of cardboard on Sauchiehall Street for, allegedly, £30 a day? Sadly you can't help everyone. You can't expect members of the public to take on the burden of feeding folk and chucking them a few quid. That puts the onus on us when the onus should be on governments and politicians. I feel guilty when I have to walk past people begging as any person would but why should I? Sometimes folk begging just want to be acknowledged. A simple "Ye awrite mate? Sorry I've nae change" The way you can make a difference is by buying a Big Issue as often as you can, donating to homeless charities whether that's by cash or just goods but mainly by voting for a political party that doesn't fuck the poor up the arse with no lube. by loronboron (Thu 18th Nov 2021 11:36pm)
  • Lots of racist shit about Romanian people here too. I find it very difficult to believe people from Romania came to Scotland to professionally beg of their own volition. Who would want to? Its far more likely they were sold a vision of a great job, house and prospects by some reprehensible people trafficker, forced to either hand over hard cash or take out loans or work the debt when they arrived here by working as part of their grift. Now upon arrival in Scotland, they find they have to share a 2 bed tenement with 16 other people and the "good job" is being forced to beg on the streets. They don't speak English and far be it for these grifting, people trafficking arseholes to provide the opportunity to learn. So who do you turn to? As such, the cycle continues. by loronboron (Fri 19th Nov 2021 12:17pm)
  • Ten years ago, aye as long as I knew them. Did it for my wee cousin and her pals and was also on standby incase any of them got too mwi and needed help (not that 19 year old me would have been much use) but if she was going to drink at 15 I'd rather she got the drink from me than some weirdo in the street. Now - absolutely not. I'd lose my job, probably and tbh I just don't think weans drink in parks as much as they did when we were young. They're all too busy playing fortnite and making tiktoks. by loronboron (Sun 21st Nov 2021 1:21am)
  • Is there aye? And did it ever occur to you that strangers on the Internet could be talking shite? by loronboron (Sun 21st Nov 2021 10:59am)
  • Everybody in Glasgow and indeed any major town or city has seen people that appear to be from Eastern Europe in Scotland. Don't see anyone denying that here but what we are challenging is the idea that these people are operating of their own free will. The old grannies and teenagers you see in the street (who btw are Roma people, not Romanian, there is a difference) are not gangsters and the idea that they are is fucking hilarious but they are probably operating under exploitative gangs who brought them here under false pretences and are in all likelihood probably victims of people trafficking. Instead of coming on a reddit forum to moan about beggars phone the modern slavery and report what's going on if you see it. I think someone else further up the thread posted the number. by loronboron (Sun 21st Nov 2021 1:59pm)
  • Did you pay with credit or debit card? If you paid by credit you could contact the company and say it's been cancelled and you never got a refund? This guy is an absolute chancer. I've heard that he booked acts for Playground, put them on the line up and the acts didn't know they had been booked so the festival conveniently announced they had cancelled on the day they were meant to play. It sounds like Scotland's very own version of Fyre Festival. Looking forward to the Netflix documentary in a couple of years. by loronboron (Fri 26th Nov 2021 8:50am)
  • Yeah definitely try monzo as I'm sure there is a way you can dispute a payment through the app. Best of luck. by loronboron (Fri 26th Nov 2021 12:19pm)
  • My maw used to make a full shebang Christmas 2 for the folk we didn't see on Christmas day. She's not done that for a while though. by loronboron (Wed 8th Dec 2021 11:40pm)
  • She never did Christmas day to be fair to her but the rest of us basically had two four course Christmas dinners in two days by loronboron (Thu 9th Dec 2021 11:06am)
  • Why don't you want to join the union? Situations like this are literally what unions exist for. I actually came here to say speak to unite hospitality. The only outlay you have is your monthly membership fee and they do the rest. They can only sort the situation if everyone affected joins. by loronboron (Thu 9th Dec 2021 11:25pm)
  • You'll forgive me as that wasn't clear. If you're already in a union then why not go to them for advice? That's what they are there for. There is also ACAS and citizen's advice bureau. by loronboron (Fri 10th Dec 2021 12:05am)
  • Again, you'll have to forgive me because I'm not a mind reader mate. Maybe if you want folk's help here give them the full story and details so they can actually direct you to the assistance you need. No need to get cheeky. by loronboron (Fri 10th Dec 2021 12:15am)
  • I know some folk who have got it sorted by contacting the local press. They get an article and then miraculously get an invitation for the next day. by loronboron (Fri 10th Dec 2021 7:32am)
  • The guy from my scheme growing up went on holiday to Spain every so often for fag runs and sold them out the back for a substantial profit. Vans in the west of Scotland tend to sell more than just ice cream. They sell fags, bread, milk, juice, sweeties and basic essentials at a huge mark up - more than you'd pay in a corner shop for example. There is also the eponymous side hustle of selling class a substances of course... by loronboron (Mon 13th Dec 2021 8:57pm)
  • Loads of people on here have already given you solid advice but the biggest piece of advice I can give you is don't get with someone else, even just for a shag, until you are 100% ready to. I've made that mistake before and someone I once dated made that mistake with me before. It can lead to some pretty unpleasant situations and doesn't actually help, it just buries feelings you need to process and deal with. by loronboron (Mon 20th Dec 2021 9:11am)
  • Paisley. It's not a long drive (especially if you live on the Eastern side) and its not a long journey by train. The town centre is a bit sad but you'll definitely get more bang for your buck there than in Glasgow where property prices are just spiralling. by loronboron (Tue 4th Jan 2022 12:28pm)
  • My gran is nearly 86 and it sounds terrible but all among all her wee pals their health is either deteriorating or they're dying. She's still very much the life and soul of the party. We're a bit worried because she loves her wee trips away to Blackpool and Rothesay and the likes but we're increasingly finding she goes on her own. She does go to a lot of wee clubs for pensioners in the southside so if your gran lives in a housing association house it's worth contacting them and seeing what they have on for the pensioners. My gran doesn't have WhatsApp or anything like that cos she's too technophobic but would probably be up for exchanging numbers. by loronboron (Sun 16th Jan 2022 12:53pm)
  • The libertines in December 2019, mainly cos they understand the significance of the Barrowlands as a venue and love playing there. It was also just chaos. Pete Doherty was trying to spark up a joint and threw a mic stand into the crowd and split a guy's head open. Mental. by loronboron (Thu 17th Feb 2022 7:01am)
  • It was definitely December 2019 because it was the last gig I went to pre covid. 'More together' isn't a high bar I guess! He definitely has it more together now though and seems to have settled down. He's been clean for a couple of years. by loronboron (Thu 17th Feb 2022 7:26pm)
  • Saw The Snuts there as well last year just after gigs were allowed again and they were brilliant. They're a great wee band and they're going to be huge. by loronboron (Thu 17th Feb 2022 7:31pm)
  • The staff at Glasgow Central Station could probably facilitate something nice. I've seen this being done a couple of times in the past! by loronboron (Thu 17th Feb 2022 9:20pm)
  • Did you actually read the article? Seems like the reporter who did the story gave him a well deserved hard time. by loronboron (Fri 18th Feb 2022 7:14am)

  • I lived in Govanhill five years ago when it was proper "weans out playing in the street until midnight" rough and encountered no problems really. I loved it then and went back for the first time a few months ago and I was amazed at the transformation. Lots of wee cafes, restaurants and a couple of decent pubs. You could do worse than Govanhill by loronboron (Sun 3rd Apr 2022 5:21pm)
  • Didn't know a job was a guaranteed passport out of the spiralling cost of living crisis. Guess what? People who have jobs are skint as well. by loronboron (Wed 6th Apr 2022 11:46am)
  • The drive out to Livingston is worth it imo because you have all the shops you could possibly need, plus a designer outlet next door where I've got a few good deals in my time. Worst shopping centre in the Greater Glasgow area without a doubt though has to be the Paisley Centre. It doesn't even have any actual shops in it anymore. Just full of cheap tat shops. by loronboron (Sun 24th Apr 2022 11:35am)
  • I also see a lot of vitriol towards Romanian and Roma people. Those who are directing the vitriol do not tend to make a distinction because they think they are the same group of people. by loronboron (Tue 3rd May 2022 8:07pm)

  • At the beginning of the year I was on about £400 a month less than what I am now. Got a new job with a boost in salary and somehow I feel like I have less disposable income than I had six months ago and earning less? I also had more travel costs as was travelling between Glasgow and Edinburgh more often. Not being able to clear my overdraft or credit cards either. We've also cut down on going out/takeaways. Not sure what else I can cut back on. by loronboron (Thu 18th Aug 2022 11:21pm)
  • Went to the shops yesterday and actually went round and put stuff I didn't really need back. I was buying two books and shampoo. What a fucking bleak time we live in that we can't afford to pick up a cheap book in a supermarket to at least escape from the shit reality of our existence. by loronboron (Thu 18th Aug 2022 11:39pm)
  • Genuine question: if said journalist had messaged OP after the thread went up to arrange a chat about the problem, do you think that would have been more ethical and would OP have spoken to them? Like it or not, journalists are going to be on here to look for stories. That's just how it works these days, but journalists worth their salt would message people to interview them and get unique quotes and perhaps have an angle they wouldn't necessarily have if they just copied and pasted. I don't think the personal attacks towards the individual journalist are particularly helpful either. This is how Reach plc titles work. It's all about the clicks and an angry click is still a click in their eyes. by loronboron (Fri 19th Aug 2022 10:12am)
  • What about going LNER to Edinburgh then a train from Edinburgh to Glasgow? Or is that the same? by loronboron (Fri 19th Aug 2022 11:12am)
  • I mean in fairness I am a week from pay day so that has more to do with it! If it was pay day week then I would be for sure getting that book. But I have recently joined the local library as I spend a lot of money on books and hopefully getting them out the library will be a good saving for me. by loronboron (Fri 19th Aug 2022 4:34pm)

  • That's the point mate. It's called leverage. by loronboron (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 10:18pm)
  • Well mate, I think you're going to find unless people stand up for what is right now, life is going to get a lot harder and more disruptive. by loronboron (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 10:17pm)
  • The cross country train from Glasgow to Edinburgh is a bit cheaper than the scotrail train if you book it specifically for Cross Country and not Scotrail and do it in advance. by loronboron (Sat 27th Aug 2022 12:22pm)
  • This is 100% illegal. Please report them to HMRC and get the local campaign groups and press involved. It's a sign something a lot more sinister could be going on such as people trafficking or modern day slavery. Don't take this job either. There are loads of places hiring at the moment who will pay people legally and through the books. by loronboron (Tue 6th Sep 2022 9:37am)
  • Nah I think what you've done is the opposite of sexist. She has to learn at a young age it's not okay for boys to hit her. by loronboron (Wed 12th Oct 2022 7:36pm)
  • I'm from Paisley originally (maybe that is the problem) and yes, there are literally no shops anymore except tat stores and pound shops. There's nowhere you can buy a suit for a job interview in Paisley Town centre anymore, for example. It's depressing, but it's not uncharacteristic for other towns and cities as the focus now moves to hospitality. There are loads of new pubs, restaurants and cafes that have popped up in Paisley over the last five years or so. People are leaving Glasgow for an easier pace of life in Paisley so things are happening. That being said, I looked at the price of rent in Paisley earlier this week and it's horrific. £700 for a two bed in the town was unthinkable two years ago. Fuckin hipsters gentrifying the place. by loronboron (Fri 28th Oct 2022 7:08am)

  • I'm from Paisley and we definitely have more nasally, slower accents and say things like "totties" instead of "tatties" and "cor" instead of "car" (well older folk do anyway). My gran used to come away with mad shit like "seek" instead of sick and "seeven" instead of seven and she was Paisley born and bred. Her parents were Irish though. We've got shorter vowels to the point where they aren't even pronounced sometimes. E.g the name Darren is pronounced like "Darn". My name is Lauren and I used to get called "Laurn". I've lived in Edinburgh for a few years now and notice my vowels becoming longer. by loronboron (Thu 24th Nov 2022 5:14pm)
  • Are you in Living Rent? They can have a look into it for you. by loronboron (Mon 28th Nov 2022 9:30pm)
  • Paisley has an outdoor "ice rink" at the moment that looked dead when I walked past today. Its probably a fraction of the cost of Elfingrove. In saying that, the Paisley Christmas "market" is a bit like if Phoenix Nights or Craggy Island did a Christmas Market... by loronboron (Fri 9th Dec 2022 11:14pm)
  • I've lived in both cities and I feel people in Glasgow are more friendly and helpful. Like for example in Glasgow if you were 10p short for your bus fare, you'd get three or four people offering to help you off the bat, no questions asked. But in Edinburgh folk would look all about them for someone else to help before they offer. People in Edinburgh don't say excuse me either, they just try and squeeze past you. Also, going out for food/drinks is just cheaper. Though Glasgow is catching up. by loronboron (Sun 29th Jan 2023 9:04am)
  • Don't know about that. I've always found Glasgow airport to be a lot more spacious and comfortable, not a lot of space to sit in Edinburgh whereas Glasgow has their big departure lounge with all the seats in the middle. Going through passport control in Edinburgh always feels like you are in a big cow shed. by loronboron (Sun 29th Jan 2023 9:11am)
  • Can't wait to see the inevitable Glasgow Live article on this 😂 by loronboron (Tue 28th Feb 2023 9:23am)
  • It's like how your name is decided when you're born. You're influenced by what team people around you support when you're wee. I don't really remember my dad pushing rangers on me when I was young, I was just Rangers by default because my cousins loved rangers and I looked up to them all. I was quite Rangers daft for a while when I was wee during the club's "let's spunk lots of money on foreign players we can't actually afford" era so loved Michael Mols, Lorenzo Amorouso, Jörg Albertz, Arthur Numan and latterly Nacho Novo... I think there was a big sense of pride about being a Rangers supporter then. I used to go to matches with my dad fairly regularly. But then came Manchester. I was 16 and went down with my mum and dad and we saw very quickly how sour the crowd turned and how they turned on each other, more crucially. As I've got older I don't bother with Rangers anymore or following them really because the toxic element of the support puts me off. If anything the internet has made it worse and his stirred up old resentments. Certainly when I was growing up, I don't remember hearing much about violence between Celtic and Rangers supporters. There would certainly be no riots in the street on old firm days. Sure it was always a bitter rivalry but my parents had good friends who were Celtic supporters and it was never actually an issue. My dad doesn't go to Ibrox anymore for the same reasons. He still loves Rangers but he's not in for all the sectarianism and hating people just because they support Celtic. I'm getting married to someone who is a Hibee and our kids will, hopefully, land up being Hibs supporters if they're into football. by loronboron (Wed 1st Mar 2023 9:10am)
  • I heard that the GlasgowLive brand is essentially being carried by the Daily Record paper sales. So the Daily Record essentially subsidises this pish. With their proprietors threatening cuts and redundancies, we might see the Live brand being the first casualty. But the trick is just don't engage with it. A hate click is still a click, hate engagement is still engagement. You'll show up as a number somewhere so just ignore it and support good journalism when you see it. by loronboron (Tue 21st Mar 2023 3:08pm)
  • They are. I work in the media industry and people who work for the group tell me they make less than you might think from ads and clicks and paper sales still make up the majority of most of the big publishers revenues. If the Daily Record still shifts about 10-15000 copies a day then that is £10-15k a day in sales making about £100k a month so about a million a year. Not much in the grand scheme of things. What they probably make money from is affiliate marketing like the "Shoppers are racing to Primark for this £5 jumper" or whatever shite. They'll make v little money from copying and pasting stuff from Reddit but the real cash is in that affiliate marketing and paper sales. If papers didn't make them any money, they'd stop selling them. by loronboron (Tue 21st Mar 2023 5:38pm)
  • Yeah a lot of these orgs will have a team of central content writers whose job it is to sit and write copy like "the McDonald's menu is changing this week here's what you need to know" or "Tesco issues major update on clubcards" or whatever pish of the day. It's distributed across the UK for outlets to use to drive traffic to their own sites. Bet that's what they all dreamed they'd be doing instead of chasing Pulitzer prizes... by loronboron (Tue 21st Mar 2023 7:17pm)
  • Yeah mate I know all about the Reach strategy lol I work in the big bad media industry and they pollute the internet with their pish to placate the masses so they don't pay attention to things that are actually going on. They use google to push their "buy this gorgeous Matalan jumper" nonsense and people click on it to see the jumper and I know this cos I fall into the trap all the time 😂😂😂 by loronboron (Tue 21st Mar 2023 11:44pm)
  • You've missed the point entirely. You only see the parts of union activity that get reported in the press which is when negotiations get to a point where strikes are inevitable. My employer doesn't recognise our industry union so we are currently undergoing a company wide recruitment drive to be recognised. Last year, when the cost of living crisis was really starting to become an issue, my employer hadn't even mentioned the idea of a cost of living rise. So a massive number of us signed an open letter calling for a pay increase. Management gave us less than what we called for but the point is we still got something more than we would have gotten by a couple of people going to management and saying they needed a pay rise. You achieve more collectively than you do on your own. by loronboron (Sun 23rd Apr 2023 10:15am)
  • No one asked us to go on strike though lol. That's the tip of the iceberg. So much more disputes in workplaces are settled without strike action than those that are. You're categorically an idiot for despising unions because by refusing to entertain the idea of being part of one you're working against your own interest. If you were the best striker in a football team, you wouldn't just have 100% possession of the ball would you? You'd rely on your team mates to back you up defending and attacking to get the ball in the net. by loronboron (Sun 23rd Apr 2023 10:53pm)
