  • You mean the taphouse? That looks a bit too fancy. The type of pizza I am looking for can only come from the kind of place which might also give you food poisoning haha by lukub5 (Thu 30th Apr 2020 3:29pm)
  • Hey thanks for the recommendation. They do still deliver apparently. by lukub5 (Thu 30th Apr 2020 3:28pm)
  • Ah yes, I see a picture of their pizza and it looks like exactly what I am looking for, thankyou! by lukub5 (Thu 30th Apr 2020 10:51pm)

  • Charity shops have, like, hubs where they process bulk donations. Google the ones in glasgow and then give them a phone. They might be willing to take donations there. I thiiink i saw at least one shop with a sign saying they were taking donations at one of these? by lukub5 (Wed 20th Jan 2021 2:50pm)
  • I think I know where you went.... -_- A guy there was all confident, and then tried to sell me a wheel that was too narrow for my tyre, and then when i pointed out that it had a high pressure valve hole and i needed a low pressure one, he suggested *drilling it out wider.* I guessed that this was a bad idea, and asked for a second opinion. Another mechanic there told me exactly what i had guessed: that drilling this out would have made the wheel liable to collapse. I would recommend West End Cycles. The guy there is super experienced and i have never had a bad experience with them. I bought a wheel off them, and they trued it for me. Good people imo. by lukub5 (Fri 22nd Jan 2021 2:52pm)
  • So much less its been awful. I have been doing my best within the rules and have had a few good sessions, but not nearly as many as I would like. I guess I should count myself lucky that I was getting any atall. by lukub5 (Mon 8th Feb 2021 9:58pm)
  • Ohhhh my goddddd. This is such a huge deal. No more cycling through the low oxygen, kinda gross, and super sloped Clyde tunnel!! yes!! Finally!!! by lukub5 (Fri 19th Nov 2021 11:12am)
  • That’s basically how it is. Unless you’re crazy levels of fit its awful, and even if you are you either add an extra 10 minutes to your journey to walk it, or you show up to wherever you’re going sweaty. Plus, I *swear* the air is thinner down there. Its harder to breathe, and its all stale and humid. Like there is a tiny bit more CO2. by lukub5 (Fri 19th Nov 2021 12:04pm)

  • I have lived in Scotland since I was like 5 but I never kicked my somewhat "posh" sounding English accent, and it definitely sucks when I occasionally get profiled by people for it. It was legit horrible when I was a kid, but I lived in a small town then so that was probably why. Glasgow has been great though. I get a handful of issues but this city is so fucking welcoming that its incredibly rare compared with other places I visit. People often mistake me for a tourist or a student though and that's just lowkey annoying. by lukub5 (Sat 12th Feb 2022 10:01pm)

  • Not in Glasgow but a train ride away; in Kilmarnock there is a great wee gallery called the Wellington. I know its out of the way but the guy there is pretty awsome at either taking in work or giving feedback on what will sell. Not snooty atall. by lukub5 (Fri 29th Apr 2022 1:52pm)
  • If you're feeling charitable, you could donate them. I can think of a few Christmas parties and things like that which would be way more merry for it. Pride is coming up too. You could make some friends at any place that offers a corcage charge. by lukub5 (Fri 3rd Jun 2022 8:13pm)

  • Like 80 percent of furries are queer in some way. And their costumes are so cute and fun and really suit the vibe of pride. Plus they deserve sympathy and respect for wearing those things on a day this sweaty lets be honest by lukub5 (Sat 25th Jun 2022 3:37pm)
  • In this case its fursuiters; the peeps who dress up in cool furry costumes. It can be a fettish thing but its not for everyone. by lukub5 (Sat 25th Jun 2022 7:16pm)
  • Fuck actually you’re right though. by lukub5 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 12:19pm)
  • I feel like most people just ignore them. Whenever we see them outside we just kind of groan and get on with whatever we are doing. Protesting against them feels like a great way to waste energy. I think most folk are just waiting and hoping they die out. Like the 8 or so losers who go to counterprotest pride; there’s less of them every year. by lukub5 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 12:22pm)
  • You definitely have a point. I went to like a protestant primary school, but I was brought up by a couple of atheist hippy Londoners so it mostly slid off me. But going there for 7 years and being made to pray and stuff still left an impression. Somewhere in my head the Protestants are the “us” and the Catholics are the “them”. Even though I’m atheist and always have been I guess it still got to me. by lukub5 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 12:43pm)
  • Yeah I did x by lukub5 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 12:49pm)
  • Are there not aye? Shhhhh.. I know my lived experience. It wasn't a "protestant school" in the sense that there are "Catholic schools" but we did prayers and went to a local protestant church on school holidays, and sang hymns every week. The headmistress was old fashioned and she retired while I was there. This was 20 years ago now. I don't expect its like that now. And nah we weren't *taught* "us against them". They hardly talked about the sects atall really. But we were kinda inducted into the protestant style of Christianity so I felt then closer to that side of things, is what I meant. by lukub5 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 8:22pm)
  • Yes! Thankyou it was so weird. I remember that being a thing. My parents still had me go because all the important announcements were done during assemblys alomg with all the church stuff, so I would have been out of the loop if I didn't attend. by lukub5 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 8:24pm)

  • I mean, like, the whole "other purpose than drinkinking" is such a weird line anyway. Like, you dont go to a pub to drink; you are there to socialise right? Every pub I have been to is basically a poorly moderated debate club with a bar. So couldn't any bar be like "this is a \*social club\*. Behold and you will see that 95 percent of the people here are engaging in talking; not drinking. by lukub5 (Mon 4th Jul 2022 5:21pm)
  • Oh okay like *entertainment* right. by lukub5 (Mon 4th Jul 2022 6:09pm)
  • There were a couple of posts on this sub recently about the state od Homeless accommodation and how at least one person wanted to start vlogging about it but didn't have the media training. Personally I would like to see more stories about the various different communities and sub cultures in Glasgow. There is a very rich queer culture here for example. It would be cool to see like reports and visibility of these communities. by lukub5 (Thu 7th Jul 2022 12:09pm)
  • I would sat tap oan for the busses. I wouldn't really want to have my bare back touching the seats, even when its this hot. It would feel gross. by lukub5 (Thu 21st Jul 2022 11:45am)
  • I hate that damn tunnel. I don't mind hill climbs but the musty air and non stop slope and nothing to look at on the way up maks it so much harder for some reason. If I am commuting through it I usually get odd and push, and sometimes i will even take a longer route past the BBC building bridge just to avoid the tunnel. No point showing up to whatever it is all sweaty and exhausted. Adds like 10 minutes onto the trip though. by lukub5 (Mon 25th Jul 2022 3:43pm)
  • Thats partially because its signposted so confusingly. Its really easy to get mixed up about which tunnel is which until you're used to it. They also sometimes close one tunnel or the other which makes people want to go the wrong way cos its so fast to freewheel down. Super dangerous civic design imo; having two tunnels for the directions really far apart incentivises this behaviour imo by lukub5 (Mon 25th Jul 2022 3:46pm)

  • Honestly in Glasgow cycling on the pavement is not uncommon. It say its pretty annoying if its crowded and dangerous if theyre taking blind corners tight or cycling close to doors etc. However there are many places in Glasgow where the cycling infrastructure just isn't there, and you need to go on the pavement for one reason or another.. Saftey from weird multi lane intersections, areas which have 12 foot wide pavements but single lane traffic with no room for bikes, areas where the marked cycle lane just *is* the pavement. Im guessing that maybe you moved in front of these guys without noticing that they were coming? Or didn't indicate before leaving the road? (not that anyone indicates, but if you wanna feel like you have done your due diligence) That doesn't excuse their shitty behaviour though. by lukub5 (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 10:12am)

  • Wow that lady sure was in a lot of places in Glasgow back then by lukub5 (Wed 18th Jan 2023 11:45am)
  • I believe this too, so long as you actually practice what you preach. I bet you don't only eat dinner at places that pay their staff a decent wage right? Nah you eat at minimum wage places all the time like the rest of us. *you* should still tip until places say they pay their staff properly. I think everyone should still tip *unless* theyre really skint in which case I guess they don't have to. by lukub5 (Wed 25th Jan 2023 12:42pm)
  • Looks like I have an unpopular opinion lol. Some companies will advertise that they are; a handful just will be. You can ask the staff; or look up the wage info if its a big chain. by lukub5 (Wed 25th Jan 2023 3:55pm)
  • You super got me but I'm that spooky I never even eat at either of those lol The plastic food creeps me out (also help what does spooky actually mean) by lukub5 (Wed 25th Jan 2023 4:03pm)
  • >tips used to be a bonus you’d get Yeah but in the UK minimum wage isn't that much anymore. I'm not saying you have to tip; but if you proport that you don't have to on the grounds that you supposedly "care" about the wages the staff get then that's really just an excuse. If you're a tory just be honest about it. I think everyone should get more money honestly, so if I am personally making work for someone by having them bring me drinks, and I can afford it, then I will \*personally\* pay them a bit more. Like its still a personal choice of course but you dont get to pretend you dont tip because its somehow good for the staff. Part of why you work service and put up with the absolute bullshit of a large portion of the public is because of the extra tip money. by lukub5 (Wed 25th Jan 2023 4:00pm)
  • I think we probably actually agree with eachother and are just miscommunicating. Lets dial back the salt a bit yeah? Its funny you accuse me of not living in the real world because there's something you're missing. Theres actually another category of people who work in service and thats people who don't have a choice and didn't get a good enough start to be doing anything else. Yeah people *shouldn't* be if they structured their lives better but I know a lot of people personally who do. Divorcee mothers, mentally unwell people, folks who ran away from abusive homes, illiterate folks, folks who just made poor life choices (like going to art school) ((like I did.)) Ive worked with people in these positions when I did work service and I am lucky enough to be in a position where I can pursue another career but lots of folks aren't. Its funny you mentioned communism because the argument you're using to suggest that minimum wage is in any way fair is a fairly libertarian one. "Oh you're trying to get fair pay from a shitty job; why don't you just have a better career" Im not trying to gatcha you or anything Im just being a bit cheeky. Just watch out for that angle is all I'm saying. by lukub5 (Wed 25th Jan 2023 4:58pm)
  • I think you make a good case here. I don't disagree with you exactly but I also think you can resolve this discussion into like an ethical disagreement. I think in the big sense tipping shouldn't be nesseccary because everywhere should pay a living wage so we agree there. I think on a personal scale though, "you" should tip because you shouldn't ever use a big systematic discussion as an answer to a personal moral question. Its changing the conversation. Its like when people bring up death of the Author as an excuse to keep buying Harry Potter merch. You can still buy the stuff there is no ethical consumption under capitalism; its just the intellectual dishonesty that bothers me. I think people should have the guts to say "I'm not going to tip because I don't want to" or "I can't really afford to tip I'm only eating here because I don't have time to get home and cook." or whatever. Personal answers to a personal question. So like "you should tip; we shouldn't have to" sort of thing. by lukub5 (Wed 25th Jan 2023 5:32pm)

  • Wild speculation on my part, but there was a huge rally of transphobes in George Square on Sunday. This statue isn't supposed to be a queer thing but it would be easy to construe it as such. It would be crazy to imagine that some of the more facist folks up from Manchester specifically targeted the boys.. Right? by lukub5 (Tue 7th Feb 2023 2:03am)

  • I date in the lgbtq scene so its probably different, but you just hang out in a space and make friends and stuff and eventually catch someones eye. Like if you already have a sense of who people are then youre building something authentic. Maybe that will turn into a relationship or maybe it wont. There is a subtlety to things though; I think most people are a bit sensitive to if you just wanna bang them, and if you come on too strong thats what people will assume? Idk im too gay to give advice on this really but good luck out there xx by lukub5 (Thu 16th Feb 2023 11:15pm)
  • Bit of a tangent but sometimes? Gay people arent like a monolith; we have the same intergenerational conflicts as everyone else. Main reason I can think of personally is political. Theres this one bracket of gays who had their young adulthood in the 90s and who faced arguably less adversity than we do now, but still feel like theyre the old guard even though theyre totally politically disengaged. This is the cohort where you find people saying things like we dont need pride anymore, or that we should be intergrationist. Or theyll be critical of trans people or something. Their politics is out of date if they even had good politics to begin with. Definitely not all of them, but enough. They can be assholes, in the same way your grandpa is kinda racist and you just roll your eyes and make fun of him for it. by lukub5 (Fri 17th Feb 2023 12:51am)
  • I mean fair enough. I grew up in the 2000s and I feel like things have gone from a broad push for acceptance and then backslid, but only really on trans issues and not gay issues so much. (I should say I was totally mixing my terms in my original comment; when I say its arguably worse for "us" now, I meant trans people). Why do *you* think it is that theres a generational divide; if there even is more of one in the gay community than elsewhere. by lukub5 (Fri 17th Feb 2023 10:19am)
  • Yeah fair enough. From my perspective its often felt like most older queer people are a bit disengaged, but you're right that its probably not because they have had it easy. Maybe its because they're just like tired of fighting? Like what do you think? by lukub5 (Fri 17th Feb 2023 10:25am)
  • Now its you being ignorant lol There's a bunch of trans rights stuff that we are still on. Have you not been watching the news? Or do trans people not count? Its fine if older lgbt people are satisfied with what they got, but those with a "fuck you got mine" attitude to the rest of the community are exacly the people I don't have much time for. Im not saying people don't have right to disengage; they absolutely do. But theyre gonna have a hard time talking to me about being queer im 2023. by lukub5 (Sat 18th Feb 2023 11:14am)
  • That right there is the problem. It actually *is* the same fight. A lot of gay people in the UK still have a shit time of it too. Its harder to get ivf; its harder to adopt; conversion therapy hasn't quite been outlawed yet. It's also completely impossible to be out in some industries. I know about these issues because I'm gay in addition to being trans, but also because I try and practice some fucking solidarity. The conversion therapy thing is a good example actually. The transphobia being used to justify amending the bill to just affecting gay peope is also holding the whole proccess from going through. We are being divided and concoqured rn. Trans people are the target right now but the gay people looking the other way; who do not speak out because they are not trans; well when we are gone who is gonna speak out for them? Or when its normalised to just generally legislate against gay people. Again, its fine if you don't want to engage, but if you have the luxury of not engaging then you should check your privilege. You don't get to be self-righteous about it in any way. by lukub5 (Sun 19th Feb 2023 2:40pm)
  • According to their [site](https://www.biodex.com/physical-medicine/products/dynamometers/system-4-pro/premier-users#:~:text=Porto-,Glasgow%20Celtic%20F.C.,-West%20Ham%20F).. Celtic football club has one?? That probably doesn't help though. Good luck x by lukub5 (Tue 21st Feb 2023 5:18pm)

Look at the shadow on the moon and you can kinda tell where the sun is, and then you can picture roughly how far away the planets are. • Shelter can be really really helpful when it comes to shitty landlord stuff. They can advise you on your rights in a situation like this. There are standards in your tennancy agreement which will specify what is your job and what is your landlords. By default, this would be an issue for your landlord. I would tell your landlord that you will only buy a new machine if you can take it with you at the end of your tennancy. Get them to agree to that and at least you arent buying *them* a machine. by lukub5 (Tue 7th Mar 2023 12:56pm)

  • There are various things you can do to get out of paying the breaking contract clause. Virgin has a policy where if they cant transfer the contract to your new place then they wont charge you. This one might not be universal to other providers tho. What is universal (true for all companies) is that if you suggest that you have to stop paying the contract for financial reasons, they have a duty of care to not be predatory. Its a legal obligation which all service subscription companies have. You can also use it to get your package downgraded etc. They cant actually audit your finances though so you can just say that you are. (and since you're being forced to move its probably true anyway.) by lukub5 (Mon 13th Mar 2023 12:34pm)
  • Groups like that are really scary. Its one thing it its vigilanteism targeted at actual pedos or predators that the police are doing fuck all about. But I worry that it would be all too easy for them to get infiltrated or false flagged by bad actors and go after other vulnerable folks. Like swatting but more anarchic. by lukub5 (Mon 20th Mar 2023 12:45am)
  • With the current supply issues you might have to get a bit lucky with wherever you go just having them in even if they normally stock them. Good luck! by lukub5 (Mon 20th Mar 2023 9:37am)

  • Fucking preach. Tonnes of the businesses in Glasgow have absolutely atrocious business practices when it comes to their employees. If you hear about *anywhere* that is paying its staff well and respecting them, try and go there as much as you possibly can. And join your damn unions hell yeah! by lukub5 (Tue 21st Mar 2023 3:11pm)
  • If you want something with a similar underground vibe to older comic conventions, watch out for zine fairs. They're way more lowkey. Suggesting incase its that kind of feeling you're after. by lukub5 (Wed 22nd Mar 2023 11:55am)

  • Ive lived around this aswell. The violence wont be all of it. From what you have said there will be gaslighting aswell. You have a few options for things you can so. One is to try and get some evidence of it *happening*. You witness it first hand; get a video recording, etc. If you see prosecuting the guy down the line then hard evidence is important to that process. Guy I knew got away with it because we didn't have this. Attempting this might be impossible if its behind closed doors but its something to keep in mind. In terms of his wife, you can reach out to her, offer her shelter (womens shelters are often full) and support so if/when she does get out, she has a support network. Get in touch with Womens Aid and ask for their guidance. You can also make yourself aware of his social circle and family, to have an idea of what would happen if he was outed as a wife beater. Some people will be shocked, others sadly think this stuff is normal. by lukub5 (Thu 23rd Mar 2023 10:33am)
  • The cops can be a bit useless for stuff like this. Not saying OP shouldn't call, but do so with some skepticism. Even if they do want to help, their domestic units can be really stretched for time and resources in my experience. They might not follow through if they say they will do something. by lukub5 (Thu 23rd Mar 2023 10:34am)
  • Men who beat women are just monsters. Parents like that are fucking vile. I watched a couple of parents where that was their attitude end up outliving their daughter because of it. She was my friend. All you can do is try and help her get out but yeah, you cant help people who cant help themselves. by lukub5 (Thu 23rd Mar 2023 11:54am)
  • Yeah and the NHS has an obligation to treat people within a couple of months. Theres waiting lists that are years long. The thing that happened to me was they said they would come get this guy, who was fucking living with us; we were terrified, "soon". It took them 4 months. My faith in the cops is limited no matter what their obligations are on paper. Yeah, they might show up eventually, if they even believe you and open a case in the first place, but don't count on it. by lukub5 (Thu 23rd Mar 2023 12:42pm)
  • Sweet summer child. Do your own research on how they actually respond to cases. Yeah often they do their jobs but not always. It depends on where you live and who you are. They're notorious for ignoring r*** reports, and their domestic abuse response isn't much better. The cops dont always follow the rules bestie. Good to remember this whatever side of the law youre on. by lukub5 (Thu 23rd Mar 2023 12:58pm)

Good veggie food and an excellently stocked bar. Plus its not the sort of place you would get football lads going to. by lukub5 (Fri 7th Apr 2023 11:06am)

  • Buy well in advance, and the tickets can be insanely cheap. Learn your local trains peak times as its cheaper if you avoid them. Check prices for singles vs open returns as if you do a lot of twoing and froing between stations thats cheaper. Trainline and Scotrail app (aswell as other train company aps) also help save money. You can get one of these apps and experiment with different ticket options to get a sense of how they work. Railcards can be good and they pay for themselves really quick. Then there is the split ticket thing, which you can google. Something to do with extra fees if you go place to place but the tickets are cheaper if you buy two journeys. Trainline does this automatically. Some people also skip fairs if you're going between two stops with no ticket gates but dont do this without being sure its safe as some train companies can fine you for it. Others will just sell you a ticket before you go through the gate so you can get away with just seeing if a ticket guy shows up on the train. I am of course not endorsing that last one but would be remis not to mention it. by lukub5 (Mon 24th Apr 2023 10:11am)

  • Yeah fuck dating apps lmao Im like queer but i used to do straight people stuff; I remember some of the rules. In the UK in general considered a bit weird to *just* go up and ask someone out or make a pass or flirt or whatever. Its not acceptable in like the workplace for example, or on the street. Super weird. Some people will shoot their shot but honestly if theyre not following those social rules they might not be worth your time. Theres times when it's okay; if you're at the bar in a pub or a club; on the dance floor; those are places where its okay. Theres also like social spaces for hobbies and stuff if bars arent your thing. You have to put yourself in those places though or people will think you don't want them to make a move. Dress sexy and go to a bar and just stand on your own at the bar for a bit and see if someone offers to buy you a drink. Theres some subtle signalling stuff thats a bit more chill than I hear it is over on NYC. by lukub5 (Tue 27th Jun 2023 11:00pm)
  • You'll probably want counselling or therapy; but you absolutely won't get it on the NHS in anything under 5 years. Try private options xx by lukub5 (Wed 28th Jun 2023 11:33pm)
  • Actually theres a lot of options. Also its not as expensive as a lot of people think? It is if you're getting a psychologist but often times a counsellor or other professional is a good place to start to get a handle on things. Its also good to know that a lot of counsellors and other psych care professionals and institutions offer pretty substantially reduced rates to folks in difficult financial situations. I was a client of a counsellor who offered what would be £50 sessions for £30 for folks who were skint. Theres also voulenteers and students who need contact time for their work experience or are just doing it for the karma, and will be working voulentarily for various organisations. I had one of these folks kinda completely change my life a while ago, and this was *after* going to the NHS and getting through the waiting list just to be told by a guy who couldn't help atall that my issues weren't serious enough. If you know where to look, its very affordable. by lukub5 (Thu 29th Jun 2023 9:39am)
  • I have two bikes outside my flat but I checked with my neighbour about it. Its really the only option unless you have a cycle store thing in the street. You shouldn't leave bikes outside and tenements really dont have the room for them inside. Bikes are good for the city so someone using them is good too. I would say if theyre in the way then ask and if you plan to move furniture or anything, get the number of the owner and call them a couple of days before hand. Also, since theres like four of them they might wanna get in touch with Cyclehoop to have some street storage installed. Its £72 per year per person and theyre doing consultancy on another rollout right now. by lukub5 (Thu 29th Jun 2023 9:46am)

  • Someone once told me a lot of brownfields stay unsold because it would be the responsibility of whomever buys it to clean up the ground pollution. It depends on the size though; stuff is cheap in Southside at the moment. Theres various examples of communities doing stuff with the land anyway; and then being able to claim ownership using squatters rights laws. "Whose land is it?" Yours untill someone comes along and tells you it isn't. by lukub5 (Mon 28th Aug 2023 12:29pm)
  • Raised beds are nicer and easier to work anyway. Less sore backs lol. by lukub5 (Mon 28th Aug 2023 2:45pm)
  • You aren't gonna get Japan National quality sushi in Glasgow but the standard of Maki & Ramen, Mikaku, and Nuku Nuku is still pretty high. You can get a bit unlucky occasionally with the quality of the sashimi; yet to find a place which hasn't given me tuna thats a day too old to be perfect tasting. Ive also had bad rice from Mikaku where its just clearly been sat to dry for a bit too long or slightly undercooked. You can get unlucky with any Glasgow sushi place it really depends on the day. Service staff and chefs have a shite time here and it shows in the quality of the product imo. (no shade to anyone; folk just generally arent paid enough to give a fuck about making everything perfect.) I say all this basically so that you dont write off one bad experience with any of these places. 9 times out of 10 theyll be adequate. by lukub5 (Sun 3rd Sep 2023 12:22pm)

  • For me its the road and transport infrastructure. That big fuck off motorway through the heart of the city and the way theres very little planning and provision for cyclists even though the city is very much the right size for that being a central part of the planning. by lukub5 (Wed 27th Sep 2023 8:51am)
  • Yeah unless you're lucky enough to have a cycle road near you that goes exactly where you need to go, it sucks. There's a couple of nice routes like in Govan and along the west end of Sauchiehall Street, and a couple of good back routes if you know where to go, but its mostly garbo. by lukub5 (Wed 27th Sep 2023 12:46pm)

  • I think if you wear generic mens fashion you will be having a shite time. Maybe if you hit up some of the desiner stores in Edi you can get some unique street wear, but otherwise you're kinda fucked. I remember really enjoying Next clothes back when I was a guy. Can't speak to their retail experience but the quality of the clothes was usually a tick or two higher than a lot of other high street brands. Honestly though, my fave place to get clothes will always be charity shops. Its eclectic; you can find a bit of everything from all shops and times; and its like a treasure hunt. Also shout out to the Mr Ben vintage shop. Its got some pretty interesting stuff. by lukub5 (Thu 28th Sep 2023 10:55pm)
  • I was just looking at them last week. Remarking on them being Hazels but weird. Thanks for letting me know what they were. Sad to have lost them by lukub5 (Thu 28th Sep 2023 11:52pm)
  • A lot of that weird complexity is to weed out and waste the time of people who are being forced to apply for everything including stuff they won't get hired for by the job centre. by lukub5 (Fri 29th Sep 2023 1:38pm)
  • I would say that if you get somewhere in centre then yeah, the train to Edi is like 12 quid for a day return; 12*3*4 is 150 ish a month which isn't much. The expresses are also regular and reliable. It gets more annoying time wise if you have to tack on busses or anything, so honestly if you aren't close to Queens Street or another station on the express line id say that faff makes it not worth it. I live out in Southside and its a 20-30 minute bus on top of the train, but the busses here suck. Honestly if your friends are in Glasgow id do it. Being able to walk home from a night out is really nice. Also a train commute to Uni is a good time to review notes and wake up before classes. by lukub5 (Fri 29th Sep 2023 9:08pm)
  • Plus that whole deal only gets to you more as you build more connections. My partner is in Edi but all her friends are here. She is a student there but absolutely would sooner live in Glasgow. Its just like her whole support network is in a different city. Its not ideal either way tbf, but I would definitely rather be near friends than work. by lukub5 (Fri 29th Sep 2023 10:05pm)
  • This being Glasgow I really did think you were looking for like Mad Max style bikers or something lmao by lukub5 (Sat 30th Sep 2023 1:51am)

My current high score is the 100 or so irish nationalists flanked by like 200 cops including some who had their horses. by lukub5 (Thu 5th Oct 2023 11:50am)
  • I mean like a unionist republican? You know? Ireland? Not sure if "nationalist" is the right term tbf; its a similar deal to Scottish Nationalism just.. moreso. So i might be mixing my terms. by lukub5 (Fri 6th Oct 2023 10:16pm)
  • I think I do understand the motivations behind it. Like I know about the history of the troubles and the preceding abuses by the UK government etc. Just didn't feel the need to spell it out since I assume most people do. Figured I just had my terminology off. by lukub5 (Sat 7th Oct 2023 1:56pm)
  • Actual gay person here. Its called solidarity. Theres a whole lot of states with oppressive laws and homophobic and transphobic cultures. Hell the UK let our community get decimated by HIV in the 80s. We stand with *everyone's* right to not get killed out of nowhere. Don't hide behind me and my community as an excuse to justify mass murder, and if you're gay too then get some damn perspective and check yourself. by lukub5 (Sat 14th Oct 2023 9:59pm)

  • I mean honestly you should never shout at a road user unless it is to warn them about something dangerous. You run the risk of disteacting them from keeping their eyes on the road. Anyone who goes around yelling at cyclists is a fanny, even if they happen to be right. Cycle however you want; use your judgement and dont be a cunt to cars or pedestrians (or other cyclists). If its not a motorway or an enclosed car tunnel then you can always just vehicular cycle and follow the car rules. This includes roundabouts although you do need to have steel balls to do those when its busy. A-roads and dual carriageways are *not* motorways. Idk what this guy was smoking honestly but good on you for looking into it. by lukub5 (Fri 17th Nov 2023 2:04am)
