Interests:

  • I'd be interested in joining in if you do get something organised. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 30th Jan 2019 10:25am)
  • Free Cake for Every Creature gig tonight and Swearin' tomorrow night! Even though I'm a knackered auld codge I'm still so happy to get to see these bands. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 31st Jan 2019 6:56am)
  • You should come see Swearin', sould be a fun night. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 31st Jan 2019 10:56am)
  • Primavera looks pretty solid this year. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 4th Feb 2019 3:40pm)
  • I nearly went to that just to see Cayetana but couldn't justify ticket and journey for a short set at the start of the night. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 6th Feb 2019 10:37pm)
  • First gig was St Ettiene and last was Car Seat Headrest, pretty decent venue but was not a club for me really, I mind having to go one night 'cause pin up nights at the Woody was cancelled and I was raging because I couldn't get my fix of Pavement. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 6th Feb 2019 10:42pm)
  • God I honestly can't remember what album it was, the venue was not long open so i'd say some point around 2004 perhaps 2005. Sorry I can't remember more than that. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 7th Feb 2019 10:22am)
  • Looking forward to Trail of Dead tonight, but I'm a wee bit sad that the Dollyrots got cancelled as I had a few friends going along to that and was hoping to catch up with them for a bit beforehand. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 7th Feb 2019 12:37pm)
  • IAN SWEET tonight woo! Kinda wish I was going to either Kero Kero Bonito or Lemonheads but picked what I hadn't seen before. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 9th Feb 2019 7:04pm)
  • A couple of us crashed out on Saturday night/Sunday morning on my mates couch watching Carl Sagan's Cosmos and this morning I spotted Jupiter and Venus on my walk to the train station. Going to have to play the series in the background while I'm working today then I guess. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 11th Feb 2019 7:40am)
  • If you're going to do it then could you please do it subtlety then. Hopefully you're just recording the audio and doing so in a way that doesn't lessen the experience for others directly behind you. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 17th Feb 2019 6:38am)
  • Starting to think things like this should be mandatory https://www.npr.org/sections/alltechconsidered/2016/07/05/483110284/lock-screen-at-these-music-shows-phones-go-in-a-pouch-and-dont-come-out by rexuspatheticus (Sun 17th Feb 2019 6:35am)
  • I don't tend to go to many big concerts these days but I'm at smaller gigs all the time and I can't say I notice much of it there, guess once you've gotten an audience then the arseholes come out of the woodwork. Going to see Nils Frahm on Monday, don't think that's the kinda show that will have chatty arseholes but now you've gotten me worried. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 17th Feb 2019 6:43am)
  • Yeah you do get some now and again, but thankfully for me at least it seems pretty rare, either that or I'm too far up the front to notice. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 17th Feb 2019 12:34pm)
  • Istanbul in Kinning Park a bit out the way unless you're into going to The Grand Ol Opry for nights out. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 1st Mar 2019 7:01am)
  • yeah only ever been a couple of times, never before have I felt the need to use the word miasma to describe a venue. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 8th Mar 2019 11:18am)
  • I was in that place for the first time a couple of weeks back for a diy punk all-dayer thing, it was so damn loud at first but I had a good time. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 11th Mar 2019 10:13am)
  • I had no problem with it, had my earplugs handy but some of the folk I came with had to go a trek to boots as it did get pretty painful/dangerous for them, perhaps next time they could get some basic risers for the amps or even a rug or something as it's not the best idea to play straight onto a concrete floor. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 11th Mar 2019 10:22am)
  • I'm in two groups with friends that run semi regularly, don't have any real interest in joining any other games due to lack of free time and thatin my old age I'm getting a bit weary of the typical geeky folk unfortunately. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 11th Mar 2019 3:08pm)
  • Cheers, I've subbed to your reddit in case my circumstances change or if something peaks my interest, but best of luck with it anyways. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 11th Mar 2019 3:37pm)
  • Randomly ended up going to the Snapped Ankles gig last night, it was fairly mad and fun. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 12th Mar 2019 7:29am)
  • Yeah it was mad, far more energetic than they are recorded. A weird juxtaposition between the orderly queue to the bar and having actual mosh pits in Mono, one lass even crowd surfed! by rexuspatheticus (Tue 12th Mar 2019 9:08am)
  • My guess there is it comes with a moat and electric fence already fitted by rexuspatheticus (Tue 12th Mar 2019 9:06am)
  • Had to get a super early train into work because of cancellations, no idea why I bothered seeing as I work for an incompetent buffoon. Also I'd completely forgotten These Arms are Snakes existed, cheers for the reminder! by rexuspatheticus (Wed 13th Mar 2019 7:15am)
  • I don't think I have any Jewish heritage but my Gran used to say I was like a wee old Jewish man because I've a bad habit of gesticulating with my hands while I'm talking, perhaps she knew something I wasn't told about. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 13th Mar 2019 1:36pm)
  • there's also the Jewish Deli in Giffnock that does some damn fine salted beef. When I was still south-side I'd go and get some now and again so I could make a proper Reuben sandwich. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 13th Mar 2019 1:41pm)
  • TEAM!!! by rexuspatheticus (Thu 21st Mar 2019 9:42am)
  • Multiplies gig tonight :) not as big a deal as another chance to see Life Without Buildings or Dananananaykroyd would be but a sado like me has to be happy with what he gets. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 26th Apr 2019 10:09am)
  • Yeah great live band, most of the times I saw them was with the first singer Giles, who ended up going off to join That Fucking Tank. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 26th Apr 2019 1:19pm)
  • I'd already paid up to go to an event at west end this weekend, will definitely try and catch an event or two there soon, does anyone know if they're running the Open House event this weekend? I don't use Facebook so can't really check there. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 29th Apr 2019 7:38am)
  • I'll never forget doing this when I was 17 after coming home drunk and leaving a pie in the oven overnight, my dad put it on my pillow and I woke up facing it and gave a yelp of surprise. My dad then burst into my room and gave me plenty of grief which did not couple at all with my hangover. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 30th Apr 2019 11:04am)
  • Thanks, I have couple of friends interested in starting mtg and this seems perfect. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 30th Apr 2019 3:32pm)
  • Aww bollocks, just noticed now that Jacob Ogawa is playing and I've already committed to playing boardgames tonight. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 10th May 2019 7:38am)
  • Think I'll be going to the Tropical F*** Storm gig on my todd if anyone here is going, also nice call on the tune of the day, I've not listened to Tom Vek in years. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 17th May 2019 7:40am)
  • G3 does a bring and buy style thing at least once a year, I'm sure you'll find info on Facebook not sure if these are the kinds of boardgames you're looking for i.e less monopoly more catan by rexuspatheticus (Fri 24th May 2019 7:28am)
  • Walked past G-Force there and noticed they've got a closing down sale, can't say I'm totally surprised but still a bit mad to think of that going away seeing as how long it's been there. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 7th Jun 2019 5:01pm)
  • I've been desperately waiting to see Sidney Gish live for over a year now and getting to see her support Hop Along tonight. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 13th Jun 2019 7:25am)
  • They're pretty good I love the song Tibetan Popstars, they sound quite similar to other bands I'm into like Swearin' and Waxahatchee perhaps look into them if you like Hop Along. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 13th Jun 2019 9:18am)
  • I'd say it's about 3.6, not great but not terrible. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 13th Jun 2019 9:56am)
  • My only negative with the show was the hanging thread with the lad in episode 4 I was hoping for a hint of what happened to him in the last episode but that's my only slight niggle. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 13th Jun 2019 8:39pm)
  • Had a fairly shitty day yesterday, tempted to take a trip to Edinburgh and see Half Man Half Biscuit in the hopes they play National Shite Day by rexuspatheticus (Fri 14th Jun 2019 7:46am)
  • Cool, taking my dad to see that tonight. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 21st Jun 2019 5:10pm)
  • Yeah I remember getting on a bus to Unit and some place in Partick that I forget the name of from George Square back in the day, was pretty bloody organised then, police and such must have been well aware. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 24th Jun 2019 10:52am)
  • It's been about 8 years since I did anything like that , honestly can't remember but that's not ringing any bells. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 24th Jun 2019 2:36pm)
  • Ohh not seen them in years, I remember seeing them at an ATP and Sunn))) O were on after them, that was such a good day. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 5th Jul 2019 10:11am)
  • Just on duke st now to catch up with friends and an ambulance had to be redirected twice due to the walk, that is an absolute shambles that we should all be ashamed of. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 6th Jul 2019 2:43pm)
  • It had sirens on and they made it turn from high st to duke st only for it to double back when another part of the parade appeared at Drygate. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 6th Jul 2019 3:36pm)
  • Might be controversial but I really wish there were enforced rules about buskers or that they were goven specific zones. When I'm leaving work I don't want to be forced to hear music I have no interest in, at least the charity folk have the decency to ignore you if you're wearing headphones. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 13th Jul 2019 9:39am)
  • Somewhere else, honestly I'd be happy as shit if they were just banned, I love how you're suggesting I pay a "tax" just so dull, guff music can be played to the general ignorance or annoyance of the masses. There are plentiful open mic nights and such for these people to play at, in all my years in Glasgow I can only think of two buskers I've actually been impressed by, the lad who used to play reggie/hendrix on the white strat years back and the jazz drummer that's occasionally around the apple store. As I said, I was being controversial, If you enjoy it more power to you but suggesting I should be forced to spend money to improve my already decent headphones because my commute is being interrupted is laughable. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 13th Jul 2019 11:06am)
  • Good call on the song of the day! Been switching between that album and the bbc 13 Minutes to the moon podcast last few days. Also looking forward to getting some Kerbal in on Sunday when I've finally got a quiet night. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 19th Jul 2019 7:34am)
  • I binged a whole lot of old Consolevania last night, still holds up well and Igot mad nostalgia for how the toon looked 15 years ago. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 2nd Aug 2019 9:11am)
  • My parents took me to the lunch there when I was 21 as a right of passage, me andcmy dad were already about 4 tennants deep beforehand and I think that was for the best. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 5th Aug 2019 9:47pm)
  • Yeah I thought she was pushing 40 based on that photo by rexuspatheticus (Thu 15th Aug 2019 5:52pm)
  • Yeah! So I've been getting back into mtg over the last year or so, I've been drafting a little and such but I mostly enjoy playing with friends. I am getting games of commander with friends and also been doing a wee tollbox league style thing with one of my friends that we're hoping to grow. What kind of stuff are you looking to play? by rexuspatheticus (Mon 19th Aug 2019 7:30am)
  • The restaurant Palaminos looks over the main eventing space so if you are there at the right time you can see lessons or if you're luck perhaps even competition. I'm not sure how much access you can get to the actual stables of people who pay to keep their horses there(pretty sure there are some no entry signs, I've only been in because that's where my sister keeps her two horses) but I know they have some Shetland ponies owned by the site, so if you ask you might be able to go and see them. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 20th Aug 2019 6:50am)
  • Did they have to deactivate the electrified rail when you're walkind down that? I be that paranoid about it I'd no doubt end up tripping up and grabbing it. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 25th Aug 2019 6:22pm)
  • This is why I that like no-one else listens to the shite I like, gig tickets are dirt cheap and there's no rush to get them. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 29th Aug 2019 2:23pm)
  • There's also a set of standing stones at the back of Johnstone on the cycle track that might be of interest to the OP. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 30th Aug 2019 6:44am)
  • Off to see The Beths ans Sports Team at the Baad, hoping the weather stays nice and I avoid any old firm idiots. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 1st Sep 2019 1:29pm)
  • And he's just missed the window for PPI aswell. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 2nd Sep 2019 6:23pm)
  • That cost red mana these lads are either green or blue. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 7th Sep 2019 11:41pm)
  • Smells funny is an understatement. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 11th Sep 2019 2:54pm)
  • If you're going to do a gaming cafe in Glasgow and want to stick out/be better than the competition, get a proper kitchen on the go with staff who actually understand how to cook and what hygiene regulations are. Order your food from a catering supplier rarher than value range from the nearest supermarket and actually give a damn about what you serve. If a place did that and had boardgame/mtg/fighting game nights, then I'd be all over it. Ohh yeah and don't set up in a basement with no ventilation or air con. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 11th Sep 2019 2:58pm)
  • Yeah far too many places don't have a proper cleaning schedule or do abhorrent stuff like selling microwave burgers on the menu. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 11th Sep 2019 3:19pm)
  • Only been in gw twice or so in the last ten years, never noticed much of a smell but it has been empty any time I went in and those were fleeting visits, only thing annoying was the staff right in my face while I was browsing with headphones on. GR smells like you could do a biology paper based on what would appear on an open petri dish after an hour exposure. I've only ever been in GR for brief moments, I'll never spend a penny in the place, the original owner/manager saw to that by shouting at me when my enquiry was passed on to him. I find it amusing that it seems to be frequented by the most abhorrent people from gaming groups I used to go to, so it reduces the chances of me ever bumping into them again which is a positive. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 11th Sep 2019 3:28pm)
  • Yeah so both query and the crowd are at Geek Retreat. Query was back in Jan/Feb 2012 not long after it opened, they had a night on their website for a new miniature game called X-Wing, I was looking to get a game or two in seeing as the product was scarce I had barely any stuff and none of my friends did. I asked the girl at the counter and she looked confused, she turned to a bald guy sitting at a laptop, after she asked him he looked up at me and went off on one about who the night was cancelled weeks ago due to lack of interest, that it was all over their facebook and that I should have seen it there, I explained I don't have facebook and as far as I remember his response was "what's wrong with you, how do you expect to get involved in anything" As for the customers I'll keep it brief as there are a few I'm aware of, but the worst is one who once ran his finger down the back of a female friend of mine and her exposed back tattoo saying "nice", this girl was a complete stranger to him,she was sitting on her own waiting for her friends to arrive at a gaming night in a pub, she didn't tell us till afterward because she was embarrassed. I don't ever wan't to be around scum like him. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 11th Sep 2019 3:55pm)
  • So I'll play commander and know others who will, but this is under certain proviso. I'm in no mood for people who play ridiculously op decks and then moan that the game has become archenemy,if you've built mono blue bullshit live with it. I won't play in GR, I like my olfactory system too much to have it deal with that place. Please don't be loud, obnoxious, or meme central, I'm I bit older and one of the things rapidly driving be from going to gaming shops is folk like that. If you're not put off by that then PM me and I'll arrange a game with my friends by rexuspatheticus (Sat 14th Sep 2019 4:27pm)
  • Anyone know if this King Khan playing at Broadcast is anything to do with The King Khan & BBQ Show band? by rexuspatheticus (Tue 17th Sep 2019 7:30am)
  • If you're using reddit is fun then most of the time you need to click the link once and the go back abd try again, happens with me and it seems like it's a fairly common bug. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 23rd Sep 2019 11:59am)
  • Didn't realise that was their last show, always been meaning to keep up with RM Hubbard, I met him at a party before ever seeing him live and he was well sound. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 23rd Sep 2019 11:55am)
  • I procrastinated on getting tickets and now I'm raging at myself. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 24th Sep 2019 6:56pm)
  • Getting pished with pals and buying mtg cards seemed like a good plan at the time, past me is a right arsehole. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 24th Sep 2019 7:01pm)
  • Saw a rando person wearing a Sydney Gish t-shirt yesterday, kinda nice when I realise other people share my shite taste in music. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 25th Sep 2019 6:49am)
  • I sadly balked at the ticket price, kinda wish I was going but too expensive to justify going on my todd and I saw them a few years ago. They are ace live though. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 26th Sep 2019 11:08am)
  • I honestly don't think I'm sleazy enough to be going to see Alex Cameron tonight but still looking forward to it. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 27th Sep 2019 7:48am)
  • I just wish I was wearing an 80s suit, had slick backed hair and the confidence to dance about like Bryan Ferry. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 27th Sep 2019 9:07am)
  • Please tell me it was double white denim, if so shame on your wife for telling you off. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 27th Sep 2019 9:35am)
  • Would only pay money to see him reenact Robespierre's last days by rexuspatheticus (Sat 28th Sep 2019 12:13am)
  • That was some gig, so damn hot though. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 28th Sep 2019 11:03am)
  • Feel absolutely awful today, was out on Friday and Saturday, decided to recover indoors all yesterday and I think it's made me feel worse. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 30th Sep 2019 8:53am)
  • Didn't know Deafhaven were playing tonight, tried my best to get onto them but it seems they're one of those bands I'm only ever going to like 2 or 3 songs from. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 1st Oct 2019 7:21am)
  • Metal meets post rock, doesn't always work but now and again it does. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 1st Oct 2019 11:50am)
  • Yeah I kinda wish I was going to King Gizzard tonight but I had already made plans and haven't given the new album a good listen yet,I saw them last year anyways. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 1st Oct 2019 1:17pm)
  • Read about this proposal to build a controversial salmon farm on the north of Arran in the Private Eye this morning, I'm guessing there's a lot of folk here like me who like to have Arran as a close escape to some natural beauty and it would be a real shame if that was tarnished. https://www.arrancoast.com/north-arran-salmon-farm-campaign/ by rexuspatheticus (Thu 3rd Oct 2019 7:53am)
  • Always nice when you're getting stressed out because of the sheer stupidly of your bosses. Roll on the weekend. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 4th Oct 2019 1:12pm)
  • We're just prime candidates for having junkies shoot up on our cinemas by rexuspatheticus (Mon 7th Oct 2019 7:03am)
  • Had to listen to Keifer Sutherland since I saw he's playing tonight. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 16th Oct 2019 7:20am)
  • If you're looking for a fun gig Adam Green is playing the CCA on Friday, check his stuff out, it's kinda pretty bare indie stuff but the lyrics can be really dirty and crude which makes for a weird mix. He's usually pretty good with the crowd as well. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 16th Oct 2019 7:29am)
  • Check out this song Carolina https://youtu.be/nyFu2wqI0dQ by rexuspatheticus (Wed 16th Oct 2019 10:10am)

  • Any idea what's happening to gigs already booked for the venue? by rexuspatheticus (Sat 2nd Nov 2019 9:51am)
  • Yeah saw that. Going to Martha tonight, but that would have been a cracking gig. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 2nd Nov 2019 10:35am)
  • Friend of mine is in the police and told me a story about someone dying in a carpark a couple of years back, seems the guy had a heart attack while getting into his car, he fell between both cars and didn't actually die for at least an hour. Imagine lying there absolutely helpless and yet so many people are nearby and you can hear them, bloody horrible way to go. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 19th Nov 2019 7:28am)
  • Tempted to go to that after meeting my dad for a bit, they were cracking supporting McLusky. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 29th Nov 2019 4:43pm)

  • Went to mine this morning, got 6 slice, a pack of scones a a single slice each of haggis and black pudding for £5. Obviously not as cheap as a supermarket but still not too bad. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 30th Nov 2019 1:00pm)
  • I miss going there for the cheap lunch deal with all the blue rince brigade. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 11th Dec 2019 7:18am)
  • Blanck Mass should be fun tonight, nothing like some grim industrial electronic music to get me in the holiday spirit. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 11th Dec 2019 7:24am)
  • Tim Tams are the best, Penguins just don't match up at all. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 16th Dec 2019 7:40am)

  • I think I drank too much and it's all a blur. I remember fireworks, sweaty men and lycra. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 27th Jan 2020 5:16pm)
  • I saw Joanna Newsome play there years ago, she said that she'd be terrified of entering a place that looked like that in America. There was also some dude out his nut on what I can only think was molly/pills, i don't really think her music is the right vibe for that kinda thing. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 1st Feb 2020 12:10pm)
  • Popped in to see this after a visit to mono and loved it,hoping to take my auld Da along soon as he loves stuff like this. Still the best exhibit I ever saw at street level was the photos of abandoned Soviet missile bunkers, some seriously eerie stuff. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 3rd Feb 2020 3:49pm)
  • This is the same lad who was playing the Barralands yesterday and there was a ambulance outside the venue before it opened and when I came out from Alex G at St Luke's it had been joined by 3 police cars by rexuspatheticus (Mon 10th Feb 2020 8:47pm)
  • Stereo, Mono,Barras or St Luke's for favourites worst is probably Tut's, always feels like it's oversold for busy gigs, that narrow gap to the bar/stairs is always a pain to get through and the sound is often guff unless you're right in front of the stage. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 14th Feb 2020 4:28pm)
  • I still need to see Beabadoobee at some point. Both Sports Team and Loyle Carner are pretty ace live. Can't say I care for much else on the line up though, but I don't think something like this is aimed at people like me anyways. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 14th Feb 2020 5:01pm)

  • Sometimes when I'm up at the more rural bit near me on a weekend afternoon, you can hear an ice cream van, it's so weird as theres nothing but fields and farms for miles. Seems it's just a weird echo caused by the valley like area and its actually in a housing estate about a 40 minute walk away, well weirded me put first couple of times I heard it. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 22nd Feb 2020 3:24pm)

  • My mate explained to me that back in the day JW's would have to directly proselytise to a certain number of people to guarantee they got into heaven which is why they'dgo door to door, but at some point they changed the rules so you just need to be seen by people and that counts so these days they just stand on busy street corners. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 24th Feb 2020 4:19pm)

  • Do they still not have a shop in princess square? by rexuspatheticus (Sun 1st Mar 2020 2:13pm)
  • Shoppping centres are the worst, everyone of them has such a finite lifespan, even Silverburn and Braehead seem rundown now and empty now, and they not only go to shit they also leave so many vacant shops around the city centre. I hope we can have a moratorium on building more of these ugly horrors. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 1st Mar 2020 2:16pm)
  • It seems to be a lot of fear mongering, as far as I've seen the percentage of people who catch it and die is still at what seems to be normal for most flu strains and those seem to mostly be the old and infirm, unless it totally mutates and ends up doing what the Spanish Flu did and kills of mostly between 18 to 40 year olds, I don't think it will be much worse than a really bad flu season. I feel like the media(both social and traditional) has latched onto this far more than is necessary. According to WHO the regular Flu leads to between 290,000 and 650,000 deaths a year and we're nowhere near that with corona, plus cases in China do seem to be dropping, they obviously could be lying about the numbers but I think so many eyes or on them now it might be harded than some make out to keep that kind of bullshit up. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 2nd Mar 2020 1:41pm)
  • Fair enough you could be right, I just feel like we get one of these ever 5 or so years and that it fits right into the clickbait media nonsense that people fall for. I honestly expect this to be forgotten about by the end of the month. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 2nd Mar 2020 5:41pm)

  • I'll be there as well, going to have to leave early and go see Butt Boy at the GFT though. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 7th Mar 2020 8:29am)
  • Yeah, it was my fist time there and I was a bit disappointed, did seem like a nice crowd though. I was worried about the kind of folk it would attract. Think I'll definitely go again and hopefully not have to leave early. It was a shame a whole side of the consoles went down for a bit while I was there. • I always just think older building have so much more love put into them and you can tell that with the details, nearly everything built nowadays is just so flat and uniform and if there's anything done to make it stand out it's in weird quirks of the geometry. So many old buildings in glasgow have a detailed facade or something else that just gives so much charm and character. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 21st Sep 2020 9:02am)

  • Im pretty sure if you get the ferry that leaves around 9:30 you should land just as a bus is coming into the ferry terminal and will take you all the way to blackfoot bay so you can easily get to the highlights atound the north of the island. If you want to do goatfell or castle gardens it's not too bad a walk from the ferry terminal. • Not watched Lower Decks yet but I get what you're saying about Disco and Picard, just couldn't get into either. But then again I didn't like Voyager or Enterprise,I don't think it means your not a fan of something if you don't like it all. Media changes and it's really subjective of how and when you come across it. I'm sure there are lots of folk who get into Star Trek through the new shows and they'll love them, doesn't mean you have to like them. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 19th Feb 2021 10:24am)
  • Thanks :) by rexuspatheticus (Fri 19th Feb 2021 1:40pm)
  • I think by the time Enterprise and Voyager came out I was a bit tired of the single episode format which is ironic as it's now something I love about shows like TNG, at the time I was big into DS9 and Babylon 5 and long format story telling was the outlier rather than the industry standard it now is. Think we need a balance between shows that go for single loose episodes and the more tied together stuff(hopefully well told stories though unlike Picard) by rexuspatheticus (Fri 19th Feb 2021 8:46pm)

  • I'd say a good 75% of the worst old firm fans I've encountered in my life have been lower middle-class, middle management prats who perhaps have a working class background but now have a ridiculous streak of self importance. Get on any train or be in town on an old firm night and you'll find they're just as bad if not worse than the most sceamey neds. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 7th Mar 2021 11:05am)

  • love Consolevania. I remember Ryan's review of Jedi Fallen Order being similar, as his marriage had collapsed and he mostly used it to talk about what's actually important to him in life. They're so good at using music, I think they turned me into a Doobie Brothers fan and also made me realise that Babybird actually had good songs and didn't just have that overplayed "You're Gorgeous" song by rexuspatheticus (Sat 20th Mar 2021 12:26pm)

But I'll never go see either old firm team, I've no interest in them other than seeing them lose every game they play. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 15th May 2021 5:33pm)
  • Kinda hard to play the classist card in this day and age with the ridiculous ticket prices and the lack of coverage on council telly, but I get that there is some longstanding stigma there. I think it's pretty clear that anyone who holds one particular thing as this important to their existence like the worst of these fans is going to come across as a bit of an arse and that can be anything from a football team to anime or celebrity gossip. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 15th May 2021 5:31pm)
  • You know the worst bit of this, seeing that that auld lad with the wee boy at the end. I can totally understand kids being excited for their team and wanting to see the parade and such, but to have them see this nonsense and the general terrible behaviour is such a damm shame. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 16th May 2021 5:44pm)

I do have intentions of trying to get in touch with them through other means. I don't know the full situation as I only caught the tail end of it and don't believe it's my place to contact the police if the victim doesn't want to. Was just trying to be a good citizen without causing too much of a fuss but guess that was so damn wrong of me. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 17th May 2021 5:00pm)

  • Can I just say I do not recommend Geek Retreat at all, the place is disgusting, stinks to high heaven and there's been some dodgy stuff with people who run it trying their best to be the only shop of that kind in the area, or being pretty dodgy with prize support for tournaments. I personally refuse to give them a penny of my money. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 22nd Aug 2021 1:31pm)
  • A local netrunner player used to work there and he'd left his deck box at a meetup. I took it for safe keeping and the next Saturday was coincidentally record shop day when I agreed to drop his deck back off to him. I had a totebag of vinyl that I'd picked up from mono and the guy I'd gone to see asked what I picked up. As we were talking this lad in an ill fitting batman t-shirt which was 2 sizes too small and a protruding belly flop which was kinda nauseating, that doesn't even mention the smell. He proceeds to talk at me, about why would anyone buy vinyl when you could just use Spotify or youtube. I quickly said farewell to my friend and got the hell out of there. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 22nd Aug 2021 5:13pm)
  • So lots of things here. Anyone can play d&d, it's super easy and you'll easy get into the flow quick enough. Glasgowdnd sub is a good shout to try and find games as are west end games if they reopen. As for length, most people usually run sessions of between 3 to 6 hours depending on factors but 3 or 4 hours is a good shout. This could be a one off adventure or part of a longer story with the sessions all connected. I totally recommend playing it, it fuels the imagination and is just a nice way to spend time with friends. There's lots of stuff online to help you learn more and pique your interest. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 22nd Aug 2021 5:26pm)

  • Met a few, but it's mostly obscure Glasgow band people. The one that sticks in mind was when me and two friends were drinking in the 13th at 17 and after sitting down with our pints getting ID'd by Colin from Mull Historical Society, my pal James didn't have a fake ID and got kicked out by him. I still send him a Mull Historical Society songs every now and again to remind him of that. That aside the guy was sound. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 9th Sep 2021 3:43am)
  • I was down at Wide Awake in London last week, prices were as bad as this if not a wee bit worse like £10 for an Aperol Spritz, but that was London and also they had a feck ton of local breweries doing pints for about £6.50. Was a bit miffed at the prices there but was ok because the festival was so cheap to get into and I expected q London surcharge, this though is taking the piss. Thankfully threre are only a handful of acts I'd actually like to see playing. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 9th Sep 2021 6:54pm)

  • Not really a park or that near Paisley, but there is a a bit of spare ground just up towards the Clyde from West St subway that I've seen used by skaters and skateboarders. A nice flat bit of pristine tarmac that is unused and even has some cover from the rain, as it's under the motorway overpass. There was actually a petition shared here a few months back to get it made into a real skate park. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 29th Sep 2021 7:56am)

  • Fair point, I just find no joy in either side winning and have equal dislike for both. Think I just desperately want a shake up in Scottish football for once in my life, plus listening to old firm fans moaning on SuperScoreboard is the panicle of schadenfreude in my humble opinion. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 2nd Oct 2021 7:10pm)

  • Dafty me was still half asleep when I posted this and forgot to mention the band name. Yeah! you're right Forth Wanderers, shame I think they might be dead, or I'd definitely get a football top if for going to see them live. • Could be worse. Years back I came home to the close I was living in and a lad downstairs from me was clearly out his nut and standing on the landing. I offered him to come into mine and clear his head a bit,he refused a wee while later, I hear a tremendous racket and go out to the close and see he's kicked his door in, it was pretty late, and I didn't think too much of it at the time. But next door to him lived two nurses, one of which woke up saw the slammed in door and phoned the police, there was always a mad powerful smell of grass coming from that lad's flat and I always suspected he was growing. Turns out I was right, and I watched him and his plants get carted off by the police. If only he didn't get so fecked that he locked himself out, or even if he took my offer to chill at mine for a wee bit. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 3rd Oct 2021 4:02pm)
  • I got through the first 4 books a few years back and then fell away, and never continued the series. Really loved the magic system and world building. • Saw last night that Saga is finally coming back, really not much of a comic book fan but I bloody love that series. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 12th Oct 2021 8:02am)
  • Yeah, such a damn good book. Art and aesthetics are just something else. Nice when there is a comic that's popular that isn't the usual superhero stuff, I can enjoy that stuff, but it's a shame that one genre dominates the medium so much. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 12th Oct 2021 9:53am)
  • No new issue till 26th January, plenty of time to catch up. Worked my way through Paper Girls recently, another cracker from Brian k Vaughan by rexuspatheticus (Tue 12th Oct 2021 12:02pm)
  • God I loved them, I had my first one at ATP Vs the Fans in 2007, think it was just before the Built to Spill set, I ate it while I played air hockey with my pal as we waited for the set to start........ that was such a good weekend. I quit buying any nestle stuff a few years back, and those and Rowntree's gums are the only things I really miss. I used to see them in Asda, but there is a good knock off in Lidl that I've seen on occasions. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 12th Oct 2021 12:15pm)

  • I'd hope it would be a mini festival with that price, are there a lot of support acts? by rexuspatheticus (Wed 13th Oct 2021 11:50am)
  • Just looked and it's Anderson .Paak and Thundercat. That's a really good support line up, I'd probably pay a good £40 to see just them, shame I'm not that big into RHCP. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 13th Oct 2021 11:59am)

  • Yeah, I think you're right. I only helped for a bit when the garden first opened like 7 years ago or so, I had to move not long after unfortunately. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 15th Oct 2021 9:52am)
  • I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, really hope it does well enough to get a few sequels by rexuspatheticus (Fri 15th Oct 2021 11:18am)
  • I've read all the Frank Herbert books. Heard bad things about his sons stuff. I know they get very weird but I like that, even if it does go a bit over the top at times. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 15th Oct 2021 11:51am)
  • I get that it's a bit out there for a general cinema crowd, but I think only having the first part loses the message Herbert wanted to tell, about the dangers of messiah like figures. I guess leaving it open will tempt people to read the books and perhaps there could be an animated adaptation or something for TV. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 15th Oct 2021 1:40pm)

  • I'm planning on going to the Maryhill vs Johnstone Burgh game with a couple of friends. After lockdown I really wanted to start going to football again, think the constant noise about the old firm put me off Scottish football for years but I'll avoid them and actually get back out and enjoy the game again. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 17th Oct 2021 11:40am)
  • Shite weather and lack of trains is a good excuse for me to sit in, tidy up and paint minis. Was supposed to have my nurgle boys done by now and really want to get a game with them soon. Need to meet a friend for a little favour but aside from that I'm not moving. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 17th Oct 2021 12:53pm)
  • Manny makes for a good costume and would look cool even if you didn't know who he was. Props for picking someone from an actual good game, I was just being a cheeky bugger by saying Darkseed.... god that game is mince, I've never actually played it but watched the old Retsuprae of it years back, after being told it was terrible. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 17th Oct 2021 4:22pm)
  • Papa nurgle loves us all by rexuspatheticus (Sun 17th Oct 2021 7:30pm)
  • Bloody love the tablet they give you after a meal there. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 17th Oct 2021 9:34pm)
  • When you started mentioned drag, it made me think of the old Menergy nights at The Art School, sorta great night of good House/Electro about ten years back that had a lot of drag queens as regulars. I had some damn good nights of dancing back then. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 18th Oct 2021 4:58pm)
  • Was reading a book last night about how school shooters and such are a symptom of Neoliberalism ideology and late-stage capitalism. A very grim if interesting read, had a good chuckle though when the author said Batman was a product of Marvel. He might be about to quote Foucault and Baudrillard, but he can't tell his comic book publishers apart... the shame of it all. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 19th Oct 2021 11:25am)
  • I think I remember Menergy started in Stereo but I think I only went to that once. Don't know about any 'zines associated with the night though. That's actually something I miss, there used to be a few good indie 'zines in Glasgow, I remember getting one at a John Knox Sex Club show that had a comic about a bunch of local bands I was into at the time, kinda wish I still had it. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 19th Oct 2021 11:55am)

  • Was talking to an auld punk at the pub last night about gigs we'd been to, and woke up this morning somehow convinced that Fugazi were playing at the Barras soon.... by rexuspatheticus (Wed 20th Oct 2021 9:07am)
  • I think my first time there was a night put on by Winning Sperm Party back in 2011 and there was no real set up on rooms or stages, it was a glorious mess. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 20th Oct 2021 9:12am)
  • Aye long time ago, I miss the nights there. Remember going to a club night and meeting some lads I'd been in a naff punk band with years back, they'd just played at a metal show before the club night. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 20th Oct 2021 9:10am)
  • They played it back in '02 was my first truly great gig at the Barras weird that you saw that though, feels like a case of Baader-Meinhof phenomenon by rexuspatheticus (Wed 20th Oct 2021 12:52pm)
  • I think the reason why I thought of them playing was because I was reminiscing with that lad about the gig, and somehow my hungover brain put 2+2 together and got Fugazi gig. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 20th Oct 2021 2:14pm)
  • Ive not been to a gig there in years but its a good venue. Yeah, it's closer to Murray field than the centre of Edinburgh but not really in a scheme. There is a fairly close train station and it's really not to arduous a walk from the Royal Mile. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 8:35am)
  • Sound and atmosphere isn't as good as Barras. It's a weird space but still a decent venue, gigs in Edinburgh haven't been something I've bothered with in a while, though I am very tempted to go see The Wedding Present at Liquid Rooms next month. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 8:53am)

  • Haha, that's ridiculous. Any word of support? I'd want a set from Plant and Page and another from Paul McCartney at that price. I mean I did drop like £400 quid on a ticket a few months back but well, it was this https://dice.fm/partner/parc-del-frum/event/9oqx9-primavera-sound-weekends-1-and-2-2nd-jun-parc-del-frum-barcelona-tickets?dice_source=web&dice_medium=organic&dice_campaign=Parc+del+F%C3%B2rum&_branch_match_id=980055914692702123 by rexuspatheticus (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 12:25pm)
  • An absolute travesty that the situation has come to this, but the fact remains that Union St is in a terrible state, not that the rest of the city centre is much better. It really feels like Thomson has been given the short straw, alongside the Egyptian Halls, the massive old ruin of a church near the Gorbals surely could have been converted into something, obviously it would cost a fortune now, but I feel that would be ideal as something similar to Oran Mor for the Southside. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 2:05pm)
  • Don't know any of her material either, I would like to think you'd get someone else as well. Did a quick google and saw mention of London Grammar, but that might be for other shows. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 3:31pm)
  • Think I saw it on the screens at Walkabout when I passed last last night after leaving the Duck, but I could be havering as I was a tad tipsy. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 23rd Oct 2021 2:34pm)
  • Have you tried enquiring with the Glasgow Autonomous Space? Not sure if it's totally the kind of thing they'd do, but it is repurposed workshop space and they do have some DIY meet ups. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 23rd Oct 2021 11:10pm)
  • I have watched that DJ Khalid clip with the Bob Marley guitar far too many times, it's like a Ricky Gervais sketch.... I just can't believe it's for real. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 24th Oct 2021 5:06pm)
  • There is a food van in the Barras called Salt and Sea that does it, not had one from there, but I've heard good things. Last time this was asked I mentioned Mara's on Arran, obviously not in Glasgow, but I know lots of us like to visit there and that place does some damn good seafood. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 24th Oct 2021 5:05pm)
  • No idea, sorry. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 24th Oct 2021 9:37pm)
  • Does that involve getting the People's Palace back into a decent state? by rexuspatheticus (Tue 26th Oct 2021 9:47am)
  • CCGs are collectible card games, think things like Magic the Gathering or Pokemon, you build your decks from random boosters and single cards. An LCG is a living card game made by a company called FFG, the distribution model is not random at all, but if you get into a game late then it can cost a lot to catch up with all the old packs. Most people at the Bacchus night play Netrunner, which is one of the best games ever made in my opinion. I also go to these nights occasionally and would be willing to play some boardgames as well. Send me a PM if you fancy playing some boardgames, I'm in the process of tidying up my old Boardgame Geek account, so I can link you to my collection. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 26th Oct 2021 10:29am)
  • You can never go to too many gigs! What are some of the ones you're looking forward to? by rexuspatheticus (Tue 26th Oct 2021 11:20am)
  • Nice! I've got a couple of country shows coming up, Nick Shoulders next week at Broadcast and then Sierra Ferrell next year during Celtic Connections, I love Sierra Ferrell and even if her new album was super overproduced, I am very excited to see her live. I've heard good things about that Jessie Ware album, not totally my kind of thing but might check it out at some point. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 26th Oct 2021 12:29pm)
  • Yeah, not a massive fan, but I read It Still Moves by Amanda Petrusich a few years back, and it got me into some oldies that I realised had a lot in common with other stuff I was into. Between that and an obsession with Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music I've become a bit of a fan, even if there is a lot of country I still don't like. To be honest there aren't many genres of music I'm not into,I think my neighbours must think t'm a psychopath with the bizarre tonal changes in what I listen to, I can easily put on super heavy death metal and then somehow decide to listen to disco or twee c86 stuff next. EDIT: as for Sierra Ferrell, I really recommend her Bandcamp stuff or the live recordings on youtube over the album, there is just so much needless extra instrumentation on that album that takes away from what makes her great. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 26th Oct 2021 12:55pm)
  • Yeah, I worked for a book publisher for 4 years and have a massive backlog of cheap paperbacks I got while I worked there, but generally just like reading. If you're into music, then I do recommend both of Amanda Petrusich's books, her other one "Do Not Sell at Any Price" is about people who collect old Shellac 78s and is also a really good read. I remember you being interested in that Bifo book, shame that you couldn't get it, I ordered mine from Verso, and it wasn't too expensive. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 26th Oct 2021 1:57pm)
  • Aw mate! I'm jealous, I kinda wish I was going to that, but already have 2 gigs on this week, and I'm pretty busy in general. I decided not to go to that one, always feel bad going to see a solo show from someone from a band I like if I'm not familiar with their own material. Is tonight the Doublet or CCA show? by rexuspatheticus (Tue 26th Oct 2021 2:07pm)
  • well enjoy! So intrigued by the idea of a gig at the Doublet. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 26th Oct 2021 2:18pm)
  • A few months back my boss and I were messing about with one of those auto text mailers you can sign up for online, it's surprisingly scary what you can get away with if you link it to something as simple as a company bank account and email. We were setting it up to put reminders for some staff to do things like set the burglar alarms and turn off the heating at the end of shifts. While we were messing with it, he actually sent me a text that showed as NHS and gave me a fake vaccine appointment date, would be so easy to link something dodgy to that. The only thing I did was send some spam texts to my pals pretending to be the Holy See and asking why they hadn't been at Mass recently. The bad thing with this is that you have no real traceable phone number, and it would probably be easy as all hell to make some shell companies to move on quickly if you did get reported. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 27th Oct 2021 12:27am)
  • Gig at the Attic tonight, struggling to remember last time I was there. Must be a decade ago. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 27th Oct 2021 8:26am)

  • I think it's a bit weird commenting about my own selection for song of the day but oh my god the second verse in that song... [Verse 2] So, I guess I’m still alive Guess being fresh to death can’t help the fire of death inside Maybe it’s all a lie Or maybe I survived on being I and got some karma on my side, Not sure why, they say I’m a good guy I guess I’ll take they word, it’s more a burden to deny At times I’m going crazy trying to renovate my mind like bro from Pi Either cool is just a guise, or the same, maybe the fool is the disguise I open up my eyes, and spin in three-six-oh degrees And see “Spy Versus Spy” within me, plottin’ how to end it That is far too damn amazing. Still pretty butt hurt that Covid caused Quelle Chris to cancel his Old Hairdressers show last year. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 29th Oct 2021 12:31pm)
  • Not sure if you're saying it's weird me commenting on my own song choice or that that's a good verse. I'm guessing the former and I totally agree. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 29th Oct 2021 3:47pm)

  • I am interested to see what happens when she does go, I don't think the current royals are seen in anywhere as high regard as she is and perhaps we could see them be pushed to the fringe/removed as head of state. I've previously seen them as ever so slightly better than the idea of giving the Westminster political class another vector to control us if we did get a president, but in light of the way it's come to be public knowledge in the last year or so that Lizzie and her sprogs have had far more influence and input that they really should have I have completely turned on that. The thought of a president Blair or Cameron still gives be the bolk though. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 15th Nov 2021 1:37pm)

  • Weird how in the 90s Argyle Street seemed to be the main st, then once Buchanan Galleries opened in the early 2000s it kinda drifted to Buchanan/Sauchiehall St, but over time Sauchiehall died a death, and it veered back to a small patch of Argyle. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 13th Dec 2021 11:08am)

  • I have a hatred for soft serve ice cream, and pretty much every ice cream van is soft serve these days. So I don't buy from them. Honestly it's a bloody travesty, whenever I hear the Monty Python theme on a hungover indoors Sunday and I think to myself "aye a wafer with raspberry, happy days!" but then I remember, they're no selling ice cream... they're selling that nonsense pretending to be ice cream. I know it's a bit of an urban myth that Thatcher created soft serve, but only someone as vile as her could create such a monstrosity. I think you only see them in the dead of winter because they know folk will be home and they're not getting the foot traffic at beaches and parks this time of year. total aside, but does anyone remember the guy who ran the icecream van outside the old transport museum in the late 90s/ early 2000s? He had a vintage mini in lovely condition and made some damn nice ferrero rocher ice cream. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 13th Dec 2021 2:03pm)
  • Beebadoobee is off the Primavera line-up but Wet Leg and Low are added. Will be glad to see them and pretty sure I'd have missed Beebadoobee as she was playing one of the more busy days for me, but the thought of her playing "I Wish I was Stephen Malkmus" with the chance of him showing up seemed like something that would have been damn cool. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 13th Dec 2021 2:09pm)
  • I guess they get an upsurge in customers this time of year. When I was there in October, which was the first time in ages it was pretty quiet on a Thursday night. I was also referring more to the amount of closed shops and things that had been taken over by poundland and such. From that sense, it seems to have gone downhill. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 13th Dec 2021 2:23pm)
  • It's vile, your mum was a good person for keeping you away from it. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 13th Dec 2021 2:20pm)
  • Realised its exactly a year on from me being the happiest I'd been in a damn long time. Things were going swimmingly with one of the most amazing people I've ever met and I was about to start a new job that looked to be interesting and challenging. Now a year on that person hates me and the job really isn't working out how I expected. Roll on 2022. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 14th Dec 2021 8:43am)

  • I went there a few months back for the first time in over a decade, was nowhere near what it was in the 90s but still fun for a bit. I got some cheap vinyl but no sign of the pirate games and magic mushrooms I used to get in my youth. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 15th Dec 2021 1:33pm)
  • Mate! You reminded me I did go there one Saturday morning still pished after my mates 30th a few years back. I was wandering about at 8am with a rum and coke like Julian from Trailer Park Boys, I got something similar to pigs ears from my dog and drunkenly walked back to Battlefield and made a nice fry up. I completely forgot about that. So I guess the pigs ears might still be a thing. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 15th Dec 2021 1:55pm)

  • I thought season 2 was ok, but I was a bit sad it dropped the spaghetti western vibe for more fan service. My main hope is we go to the planet that Bill Burr is from, I just want a whole planet of folks with thick Boston accents. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 29th Dec 2021 10:07pm)
  • Just a sore arm and a sleepless night, no fever or headache. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 30th Dec 2021 8:59am)
  • Bloody gorgeous isn't it. As a book fan I think it may have the single greatest foreshadowing/fan service moment in a film ever. I have some slight problems with it, just in terms of omissions but it didn't actually detract from how good the movie was. It's a does feel a bit hard for me to judge, as it's one of my favourite books so I have no problem following the story. Don't know how well it comes across to people who are new to the material. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 30th Dec 2021 10:07am)
  • It is very bad isn't it. Best bit for me was when Robin Williams character from The Fisher King randomly showed up for 5 minutes. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 30th Dec 2021 12:10pm)
  • It's a hint at the Teilaxu, who are a house/organisation that appear in the later books, they're all into genetic modification. I also heard it's also a nod to a design from the Jodorowsky film, but I've not seen where that came from. I genuinely would pay silly money for the design bible for that unmade film. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 30th Dec 2021 1:06pm)
  • Yeah, good point. There is a whole dinner scene in the book that was missed out, but that would have just sagged the movie and lost so much momentum. It works in the book and I'm sad we didn't get it, but I fully understand why. I loved how much emphasis was placed on the previous Duke dying in a bullfight. I don't think it's mentioned in the film but the mounted bull's head you see is actually the bull that killed him. It's a strong metaphor for the situation the Atriedes find themselves in. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 30th Dec 2021 1:34pm)
  • I'm tempted to get a ticket to see Zeal and Ardour. Don't actually know anything by Meshuggah but on my to listen to list..... it's very, very long. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 30th Dec 2021 11:39pm)

  • English indie band with a female singer, the gig was on a Friday as I went to NPL afterwards. They either supported or were supported by an Aussie band called the Grates. Today I randomly recalled talking to the singer at the merch stand and her sharing a bag of dolly mixture with me, I do also remember the band being pretty good. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 31st Dec 2021 5:08pm)
  • Cheers. I started doing a wee search but was having no real luck, plus I randomly saw Mission of Burma played the Barfly in 2004(before I was into them) and I got a bit sad. I have issues when it comes to stiff like that. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 31st Dec 2021 5:40pm)

  • See my bread and butter is places like Stereo and Hug and Pint. Not to say that I don't go to Barras and such, but that's more infrequent. Still not actually been to Hydro but I've heard some horror stories. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 11th Jan 2022 3:22pm)
  • That's mince. Though I did hear a story when the Hydro opened that the audio set up was never properly completed. Perhaps it's for that, but then again they should be able to afford that off their own backs. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 11th Jan 2022 7:38pm)

  • Sounds like a plan. Perhaps something to look into, there is a gig room on the glasgow/wiki chats that you can join though. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 12th Jan 2022 9:53pm)
  • I took in two ferals from a farm my family know. Might be worth looking into something like that if you can. Lots of livery yards and such have rando cats that start to become almost pets and then have litters. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 15th Jan 2022 2:39pm)
  • I used to love G-Force but still felt salty after they sold me a second hand copy of Nintendogs at full price. It was for my sisters birthday and as soon as she turned it on she noticed there was already a save on it, the guy who took it off me when I returned it was a bit of a prick about it, but thankfully the next time I went in a year or so later, he wasn't working there anymore. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 16th Jan 2022 2:18pm)

Even if he wasn't gonna eat it at least his dog would have a nice treat. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 17th Jan 2022 2:16am)
  • Totally not a Glasgow thing but I do have to say I love bloody love when the Cowboys lose in the NFL. I think it's that perfect mix of fan arrogance, horrible owner and being termed America's Team that gives me an enormous sense of schadenfreude when they lose. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 17th Jan 2022 8:23am)
  • Fair point. I'd probably expect them to be worse if they were losing to the Jets actually. It doesn't stop Jerry Jones from being the absolute worst though, so I'm happy he's probably quite miserable. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 17th Jan 2022 10:35am)

  • Naw, sorry but I'm a bit miffed that the city becomes a no go site when these two teams are up against each other. It's not as if I don't like football. I just hate the old firm and all the nonsense it brings. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 9:48am)
  • Don't think we've had a nighttime game for a while and there's a reason they usually don't let them go ahead. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 10:12am)
  • I think it is monumentally dumb that a night game is allowed to go ahead. You know there will be fights and trouble no matter the result. I don't think it's particularly fair for people who don't care for either team. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 10:10am)
  • Nope just spent far too much of my life around old firm fans by rexuspatheticus (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 10:26am)
  • First old firm game with fans in ages. 2 pts between the teams and its being allowed to go ahead at night. All this seems like a recipe for trouble. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 10:32am)
  • Fair enough no go might have been a bit too strong. But I think you'd be daft to randomly go out in the city centre tonight. It will probably be fairly quiet during the game, but good luck going for a pint in anywhere that isn't someplace like the 13th Note, without it being crowded with arseholes. Also before and after the game it will be carnage, not looking forward to getting home from work. Old Firm games are nowhere near as bad as it was when my parents were young but it's still shite. I remember being at a gig in the BaaD when there was an old firm game back in 2019 and it was not fun walking through the numpties gathered up in Merchant City. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 10:56am)
  • Nope growing up in Glasgow levels of realism not any hysteria. I will admit no go was a bit strong but I still do my damnest to avoid the city when these two sides play each other, and I think there are valid reasons. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 11:18am)
  • Oh I'll be fine don't worry. Hopefully I'll even get to enjoy listening to some butthurt Celtic/Rangers Da's moan on the radio after the game. Shame they both can't lose though. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 12:06pm)

  • It's all likely a lie built up by Alan McGee over time to be honest, years back I was talking to Douglas and Finlay from BMX Bandits who Oasis were supporting at that show, and they told me that Oasis showed up in a Mercedes tour bus. Not something you'd expect of an unsigned working class band. I think McGee had already found them and just wanted a story to tell to build hype, to be honest, it's the kinda thing he'd do. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 13th Feb 2022 12:13pm)
  • My mum was working behind the bar when the Smiths played at Barras. She told me that after sound check, Johnny Marr was playing a game of football with the security and roadies and someone nearly hit the disco ball. • I have gone off batman completely over the last few years and the thought if seeing a movie about the character that isn't cheesy like Adam West seems really offputting. Part of me would like to see how Glasgow was incorporated into the film though. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 7th Mar 2022 8:40am)
  • I've not seen it but heard its like a 3 hour Fincher film about a moody dark Batman so I think it's not for me. I want a stupid camp Batman we can all laugh at. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 9th Mar 2022 9:29am)
  • I know i'm in the minority, but I think batman would be much better if it went back to the Adam West style. Starting to not feel ok with the idea of a rich guy gearing up to go and beat up some villains who are little more than tropey grim takes on mental health conditions. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 9th Mar 2022 10:55am)

I was supposed to see Japanese Breakfast on the Sunday but she's delayed till November, was thinking of going down to see Skating Polly on the Saturday in Newcastle but don't need to anymore. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 22nd Mar 2022 9:47am)
  • Thundercat is a funky bass player, really good stuff.https://youtu.be/GNCd_ERZvZM There is another band playing that night call The Beths I'd like to see but seen them more recently than Thundercat and I think he's better live. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 22nd Mar 2022 10:03am)
  • Heck of a first gig there. You'll really enjoy it. This is my first time back at the Barras since the infamous IDLES Saturday night when everyone got the 'rona. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 22nd Mar 2022 11:21am)
  • Ah cheers. Yeah my bad I have another gig that's been moved to November and got those two mixed up by rexuspatheticus (Tue 22nd Mar 2022 2:02pm)
  • Cheers. Turns out Crumb have cancelled due to covid,so the run isn't as great as it could have been. Also had Lucy Dacus delay her show due to the dreaded lurgy on Sunday there, and now she's rescheduled to a date that clashes with another gig I am really looking forward to - Spirit of the Beehive. I don't know if that's bad luck or if I go to too many gigs. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 22nd Mar 2022 5:38pm)
  • Hope the gig was worth it and the you're not feeling too rough. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 23rd Mar 2022 8:15am)
  • Paisley Observatory is currently under renovation but the guy who used to do the visits was really good at teaching the basics. I even went one time when the main scope was out of action and he showed us how to find the planets on a couple of regular telescopes. Jupiter and Mars are good things to look for and fairly easy to find. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 24th Mar 2022 8:05am)
  • I didn't know John Cooper Clarke was playing. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 24th Mar 2022 10:57am)
  • There is a few of them around that area. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 24th Mar 2022 1:03pm)
  • Makes me sad how much Richmond Park has changed. I got taught how to ride my scooter there when I was like 3 or 4 and I remember it being all trees and having a big pond. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 26th Mar 2022 1:03am)
  • Flipped the stage and bar. Only noticed it at Bob Log back in Feb. Weirs but I think it might have been done for the sound tech as the board seems to be in a far better place than before. Stages is now far deeper than wide, which is very weird. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 26th Mar 2022 1:09am)
  • I know it's some lad who used to frequent nightmoves/kes club back in the day but not sure who it actually is. I thought it was Geoff Ellis we all hated. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 26th Mar 2022 1:07am)
  • Broadcast is weird because they've flipped the side the stage and bar are on I think this works out slightly better for the sound tech bit it's still a bit weird and now the stage is far deeper than it is wide. Decent wee venue though. Who you going to see? I'll be there for Skating Polly on Sunday. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 26th Mar 2022 1:05am)
  • Having that weird thing if reminiscing and realising how much time has passed. Going to Thundercat tonight and last time I saw him was the 6music Festival, which kinda scares me to think it was 5 years ago. Then with JPEGMAFIA tomorrow, he was the last live music I saw before lockdown... damn. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 29th Mar 2022 9:20am)
  • It's that horrible thing of having the cool memories but at the same time it's very easy to date your experiences. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 29th Mar 2022 11:14am)
  • Avalanches at the QMU.....bloody hell. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 29th Mar 2022 12:30pm)
  • All three of their albums are ace. We Go On from the last album is just so good. Mick Jones, Colaboy and a Karen Carpenter sample...it's just something else. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 29th Mar 2022 3:03pm)
  • Yeah, hard to say a bad word about their back catalogue. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 29th Mar 2022 3:36pm)
  • Tickets go on sale 10am Thursday. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 29th Mar 2022 11:50pm)
  • Shilling weird me out, the big screen that shows the beers always makes me think of the football scores you'd get on the BBC. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 30th Mar 2022 7:43pm)
  • It was a good show last night. Didn't feel as mental as his set at SWG3 though. I might love Free The Frail a little too much. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 31st Mar 2022 8:53am)
  • I hate that I read this title in Seinfeld's voice. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 31st Mar 2022 8:57am)
  • Far too many good gigs in April. Need to start watching money for Primavera though. Also, I hate being judgmental about music, but that Ewan McVicar song that Clyde1 plays and I seem to hear everywhere actually makes me feel nauseous. Really has become my least favourite song of the last few years. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 31st Mar 2022 12:57pm)
  • I'm sure you'll be fine, think they only really care if it's glass you're bringing in or if you're being obnoxiously drunk. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 31st Mar 2022 6:42pm)
  • Biggest game in world football my arse. It's definitely one of the biggest derbies no doubt easily in the top five in terms of passion if not actual importance. It only has great importance in the league due to the ridiculous financial advantage that the old firm have over the rest of the league, so much so that I genuinely fail to understand how anyone can care about Scottish football and still support one of those sides. This wee video by tifo outlines the sheer gap that exists and why I find it hard to care about domestic top flight football. https://youtu.be/LUpmblcJy3s by rexuspatheticus (Sun 3rd Apr 2022 9:47am)
  • Loved that big crowd of lads in Central there, can't tell if they were cosplaying as ninjas or covering their faces in solidarity with women living under strict Islamic regimes. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 3rd Apr 2022 10:06am)
  • Been getting jams with a few people since lockdown and mostly trying to improve my bass playing. Hoping to get something more serious on the go though, but sadly i'm really wanting to play something with a ESG or Au Pairs vibe... think I'm a bit alone on that one. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 6th Apr 2022 9:31pm)
  • Bibi's Cantina at the back of Partick is lovely but not sure if they do takeaway. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 7th Apr 2022 5:40pm)
  • I had bad experiences with the staff and regulars when it first opened and it put me off ever spending any of my money there. Since then I hear it's gotten much better and is much friendlier, but I still would say you're going to need to put up with a distinct aroma. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 8th Apr 2022 5:34pm)
  • Chinese restaurants in Holland tend to mix in some Indonesian dishes. Lots of things like Sambal and Babi Pangang, the satay over there is usually so much better than you get here, also having it be a standard topping for chips is something I really miss. There was also an omelette dish I loved as a kid that I can't remember the name of. Plus, enough good things can't be said about the vans run by Vietnamese, selling amazingly huge spring rolls called lumpias. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 10th Apr 2022 11:08am)
  • I will say Dutch food isn't the most varied but it was good. Cracking takeaway staples like bereklauw and appleflappen. They do nice wholesome cozy food and far better rollmops than I have had anywhere in Scotland. I also don't think I need to say anything about how good their cheeses are. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 10th Apr 2022 11:14am)
  • If there is a wee kid/teenager at the counter taking your order I tend to think it's often a good sign. Family run ones seem to give a bit more of a damn I think. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 10th Apr 2022 11:16am)
  • Was anyone at Charlotte Adigery & Bolid Pupul last night? That was the best gig I've ever been to at broadcast, and perhaps one of the best I've ever ever been to anywhere. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 11th Apr 2022 8:02am)
  • Recruited by fundementalist Americans? Seems to be along the same lines as the people we are told to be worried about for stirring hatred amongst the congregation at mosques. Probably should be treated the same way. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 11th Apr 2022 10:21am)
  • If his gig at Art School is anything to go by tonight should be amazing. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 11th Apr 2022 3:46pm)
  • I think I might pop along and watch a game, especially with the football season winding down. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 11th Apr 2022 4:32pm)
  • Sorry you can't make it, A.G Cook is also awesome, this should be a good 'un tonight. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 11th Apr 2022 4:44pm)
  • Struggling to come up with a good Nam flashback joke here. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 12th Apr 2022 7:53am)
  • Wee pre Primavera prep show. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 12th Apr 2022 10:04am)
  • I remember seeing that Sleazy's does a Retro Nu Metal night, this was before lockdown to be honest. I was up for going with my pals for a laugh one night. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 12th Apr 2022 9:08pm)
  • I need to see them again ASAP. They deserve a bigger venue, but I'm also so glad I caught them at something so intimate and was right near the front. Was pleasantly surprised when they played Highlights. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 13th Apr 2022 6:13pm)
  • My pal might be looking for one. Massaging him now. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 15th Apr 2022 12:30pm)
  • Definitely one of my worst typos. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 15th Apr 2022 12:39pm)
  • Looking forward to this gig. Is it not sold out though? Someone has posted up a spare ticket on here though. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 15th Apr 2022 1:01pm)
  • My pal can't make it tonight. Hope you find someone who can take your ticket. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 15th Apr 2022 12:59pm)
  • I thought I looked and it was sold out, weird. Though last time he played it was a sellout at Audio, and I'm sure it was still listed as being at Slay. I think they list gigs at Slay but move it to Audio if it doesn't sell enough. I think that's what happened with Martha when they played a few years back. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 15th Apr 2022 1:43pm)
  • I still say the worst I saw it when I lived there was the Pink and Take That gigs. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 16th Apr 2022 10:12am)
  • Saw a drunk woman try and do the toilet into a street bin. Put me off going to the coop. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 16th Apr 2022 10:18am)
  • Going there at Christmas is an experience by rexuspatheticus (Sat 16th Apr 2022 4:31pm)
  • Yeah they battered down GWR when I was in the Belle yesterday afternoon. Engine noise was mental. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 17th Apr 2022 4:24pm)
  • My mate that works in the cinema gave me code to go see it but I never bothered to actually go. I think I've realised that Batman as a character is just something I don't care about anymore. When I think of superheros I would like to see now, it's stuff like Immortal Hulk, or the Plastic Man who works in a superhero themed strip club. I think the vengeful dark Knight is far too played out for me, and the idea of a billionaire battering the mentally ill just doesn't sit well at all. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 18th Apr 2022 9:42am)
  • I think I'm pretty much bored of superheroes. Since Immortal Hulk finished the only series I'm keeping up with are Saga, Monstress and Farmhand. There are so many cool superhero comics and characters still untapped though, and some that have been adapted just fall into common styles and tropes. A camp silly Batman or Superman would be so refreshing, also Promethea getting a good TV series is still something I dream could happen, I do think Alan Moore would hate that idea though. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 18th Apr 2022 11:48am)
  • If you haven't read Promethea I really recommend it. It does go proper Alan Moore weird but it's an interesting concept for a superhero. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 18th Apr 2022 1:10pm)
  • Being forced to endure the radio x best of British because the only other person in the office today got in first. I think I've heard more Oasis songs today than I'd want to hear in a whole year. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 18th Apr 2022 1:31pm)
  • Started back up in January. It's been good so far. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 18th Apr 2022 1:35pm)
  • Good joke, also have to say your username is a cracker. This is the first time I've ever heard this and looking through the previous years it's shocking at the lack of Scottish bands. Nothing except for Biffy Clyro, and no Kinks, Black Sabbath or Clash....wit the hell. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 18th Apr 2022 2:29pm)
  • Same boat! I was going to go, but I have a ticket for them with Perturbator later this year. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 19th Apr 2022 1:47pm)
  • Aw man, thats gutting news. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 19th Apr 2022 4:32pm)
  • Tempted, but barely been in the flat for the last week or so. I'll see how I am tomorrow. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 20th Apr 2022 9:32am)
  • 13th Note, plus nice big windows and decent vegan food. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 20th Apr 2022 11:58am)
  • I wish they'd just kept the old train station, and converted it to a shopping centre. Such a nicer looking building from the photos I've seen. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 22nd Apr 2022 11:36am)
  • Let's go proper retro and bring back Beatties. Some people I know have started playing Subbateo and I don't want to pay £75 for a Thistle team. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 22nd Apr 2022 12:21pm)
  • Yeah. Have you ever seen the photo of it when they were refurbishing the subway beneath it, and all the street around it had been removed? by rexuspatheticus (Fri 22nd Apr 2022 4:34pm)
  • Just wanting Not Just Bikes to do a wee breakdown if how Glasgow could he better now. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 22nd Apr 2022 4:35pm)
  • That's it by rexuspatheticus (Fri 22nd Apr 2022 4:41pm)
  • I've always found the idea of indoor shopping centres to just be appalling. They seem to have such a finite lifespan, and they ruin the high St. I'm hoping Silverburn is the last of them here. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 22nd Apr 2022 4:40pm)
  • It's great how much we mauled a beautiful city and we barely even got bombed in ww2. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 23rd Apr 2022 12:37am)
  • Thanks! I'll give it a watch soon. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 23rd Apr 2022 9:03am)
  • No idea about woodside ones but I was speaking to my pal who is a civil engineer and the ones at Cardonald are going to be there for a while at least. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 23rd Apr 2022 9:44am)
  • Is that the one that was always in the grass near linwood that you pass on the train? Sure I seen it there once or twice. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 23rd Apr 2022 1:42pm)
  • He should sell white t shirts as well and become Glasgow's own version of Bubbles. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 25th Apr 2022 12:27am)
  • I did feel for all the young lasses who queued up qt Mono for Taylor Swift, only to have them nabbed by the auld lads who'd camped out since dawn. But I got my obscure shite so it didn't affect me. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 25th Apr 2022 5:25pm)
  • Hobbies are always a good way to meet folks as you get older. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 27th Apr 2022 9:40am)
  • Genuinely mince that 3 of my favourite wee Scottish bands are all playing different gigs in Glasgow tonight. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 30th Apr 2022 9:23am)
  • I vaguely glanced at your thread yesterday. I know for me it's taken time to get into some music. I haven't sat and listened to the same thing that I don't like multiple times on repeat but I am willing to give things a second chance down the line. For example,it took me getting into Zappa before I got Jazz at all. I used to think Metal like Iron Maiden and Metallica was super naff, but that was because I grew up in the Nu Metal craze and that stuff put me off Metal completely for a very long time. I also went back in 2020 to listen to Definitely Mabye as there was so much talk about it for the 25th anniversary. I still think it's not particularly good, but time could have changed that. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 30th Apr 2022 9:22am)
  • Last juniors game of the season, meeting my sis at the paisley food fest and then a gig tonight with an auld pal I'venot seen in years. Should be a good 'un. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 30th Apr 2022 9:25am)
  • How long ago was that thread on here? Feels like a bloody lifetime ago. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 30th Apr 2022 9:24am)
  • I wondered what that was for. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 30th Apr 2022 11:34am)
  • Kaputt from Glasgow are playing in Mono, but it's just a support slot, I've not really taken a shine to the band they are supporting and they have a headline show soon, so I'm not too miffed about that one. Same with Bikini Body up at The Flying Duck though they're supporting a band called Beige Banquet who I'd quite like to see, Beige Banquet have a Post Punk sound kinda similar to Snapped Ankles, and Daily Mail by Bikini Body is a great song to sing along to. Slime City are my favourite wee band in Glasgow right now and are playing Stereo tonight. I'm between the Beige Banquet and Slime City gigs and still haven't really made up my mind. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 30th Apr 2022 1:24pm)
  • There is the thirsty Thursdays. Seems like a good shout for you to meet peeps. There is also some meetups arranged that you can see on the wiki. I'd give more details but I'm on my phone and a tad tipsy. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 1st May 2022 2:31pm)
  • It's on. Not sure if it's finishing at 6, but I'd doubt it. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 2nd May 2022 1:19pm)
  • I'd like to imagine this is Ray from Achewood, and he has moved to Glasgow. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 4th May 2022 7:57am)
  • Nice tune today! Quite interested to seeing what the band becomes now without Isaac, but damn this album is special. Got lucky enough to hear some of it live at Wide Awake last September. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 4th May 2022 7:55am)
  • Would be cool if somewhere showed Dr Strangelove by rexuspatheticus (Wed 4th May 2022 11:39am)
  • Damn I kinda forgot that gig was on. They're great live. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 6th May 2022 1:46pm)
  • Arrochar is a good intro, Cobbler and the two munroes there are all good. Easy to access from train or car and the fact that you have your choice of three peaks when you hit the valley is kinda cool. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 6th May 2022 9:12pm)
  • If I hadn't already arranged to meet my sister I'd join you. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 7th May 2022 12:44am)
  • Oft, the Hydro.... how much were tickets? They're still one of the best gigs I ever went to at the QMU. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 11th May 2022 12:21pm)
  • Same. Do you think the Celtic fans were just waiting for the Rangers fans to throw them in the bin? by rexuspatheticus (Wed 18th May 2022 11:07pm)
  • Lauren Laverne on 6music played a song called Jeff Goldblum and a couple of Songs later played Jurassic 5....I see what you did there. Also I completely forgot Jurassic 5 were a thing, one of the first bands I ever saw at a festival. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 19th May 2022 10:09am)
  • Got two standing tickets for Kendrick. Hate paying that much for tickets but DAMN... by rexuspatheticus (Fri 20th May 2022 12:01pm)
  • Not gonna lie, MoFlo sound like a type of water tablet. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 20th May 2022 3:48pm)
  • I was about £85 each by rexuspatheticus (Sat 21st May 2022 12:12pm)
  • General. We looked for standing with presale but saw none. I really don't like spending that much on tickets but I'm taking my sis for her birthday. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 21st May 2022 3:01pm)
  • 99% of the time I'd be with you but I wanted to see him, so did my sis and I couldn't handle being in seating. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 21st May 2022 6:42pm)
  • I have tickets. Used to be a band I adored, but I've fell away since they had their comeback. Looking forward to this one as it's on my birthday. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 21st May 2022 10:31pm)
  • Genuinely still haven't made up minded on if I should go see Beachhouse or Black Cpuntry New Road tomorrow. I stupidly ended up with a ticket for each show. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 22nd May 2022 7:12am)
  • Go to gigs most weeks, it's not been a thing for months. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 23rd May 2022 9:52pm)
  • Yeah, I noticed my standing ones doubled in cost. I have no real idea how that works, is it ticketmaster reselling tickets for a profit? by rexuspatheticus (Wed 25th May 2022 8:49am)
  • Even seeing it mentioned in Tesco made me feel ill. Glad I'll be in Barcalona for this nonsense. If I was here I'd hopefully have organised what I went to for that bug daft royal wedding about ten years ago and have a David Icke barbecue. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 28th May 2022 12:39pm)
  • As already mentioned here G3, the actual GW shop and Common Ground are all good shouts. I am also just getting back into the hobby after a very long gap, I have 2000pts of Death Guard and 1000pts of Sisters if you're looking for a person to play. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 29th May 2022 4:46pm)
  • Even if you just want a wee patrol(500pts) game at the warhammer shop one night. I am away to Barca for 2 weeks but hit me up when I'm back and you have something ready. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 29th May 2022 8:50pm)
  • Last day in work before I bugger off to Barcalona for Primavera. Can't bloody wait. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 31st May 2022 9:02am)
  • I'd love a big old flat in the west end , but part of me would also like to buy that weird white building across from Rufus, turn it all into flats but have the top floor as one big flat for myself. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 31st May 2022 9:33am)
  • Aye I'm going super early. Anything stops me from seeing Pavement and I'll be more than a little sad. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 31st May 2022 4:57pm)
  • Primavera bound? My flight is a little delayed, a wee bit worried about the connecting flight now. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 1st Jun 2022 10:14am)
  • I never went to that, I was at a David Icke bbq a friend put on. We were asked to wear lizard masks and he had ordered in a exotic meat box. Afterward I went to see Gessafelstein at Stereo and people were talking about what went down at the park. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 3rd Jun 2022 3:28am)
  • Got home from the Mogwai set at about 5am, been out a wander for the last hour and now chilling with a coffee and my book. Enjoy the weekend folks. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 4th Jun 2022 10:35am)
  • Yeah, I'm here for the long haul. IDLES,Nick Cave and Beach House are my big ones today. Hope you have a good one as well. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 4th Jun 2022 1:29pm)
  • Feels like half of Glasgow is at Primavera. Nick Cave was an experience last night. Sad I left a bit early bit wanted to make sure I could see IDLES. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 5th Jun 2022 10:44am)
  • It's been a better of a trip so far. First day of the festival was a bit unorganised but it's gotten so much better, now 4 days enjoying Barcalona with a gig or two each night before the second weekend festival. Gonna be so worn out after all this. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 5th Jun 2022 10:43am)
  • If you get the subway to west St there is a bit just beside it that is super smooth and covered with the motorway overpass. I've seen people skate and Rollerblade there in the past. It's not huge but it's covered from rain and it's likely you'll be there on your own. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 6th Jun 2022 9:18am)
  • I really don't like recliner seats at the cinema. I don't like to be packed in like a sardine but I also don't feel comfortable lounging while watching a movie in public. I went to the Vue in St Enochs recently and hated it. Very unlikely to go back. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 6th Jun 2022 11:29pm)
  • Nice tune, I saw Beck a few night's ago for the first time in over a decade and he was amazing. Will be listening to him more once I get back home. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 9th Jun 2022 9:50am)
  • Ticket scotland had at least one return last week when I checked. I had one but already given it away, bloody gig was rescheduled for when I was out of Glasgow. Really looking forward to seeing them aswell. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 9th Jun 2022 11:04am)
  • GFT is probably your best bet by rexuspatheticus (Sat 11th Jun 2022 10:20am)
  • Was good when they showed stuff in the Pollokshaws Burgh Hall, as it has a old cinema Wurlitzer organ so they can score silent movies perfectly. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 11th Jun 2022 5:46pm)
  • Well, back from Primavera and feeling dead inside. That was one of the best trips of my life. I so much good music. I feel like relisteningto so much but don't know whee to start. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 14th Jun 2022 8:04am)
  • Yeah, I'm no longer in shorts. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 14th Jun 2022 9:05am)
  • I am feeling pretty rough. Don't know if it's because I'm finally getting a decent amount of sleep or if I have a wee festival bug. Hope it's not covid. Who were you're highlights? Did you do the full both weekends? by rexuspatheticus (Tue 14th Jun 2022 9:28am)
  • Songkick using followed artists from Spotify seems like a decent way to go for me at least. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 14th Jun 2022 9:30am)
  • When cool hip hop artists like Quelle Chris and JPEGMAFIA struggle to sell out shows it's obvious there just isn't a market for it here. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 14th Jun 2022 4:48pm)
  • Yeah Phoenix at the Poble Espanol were a definite highlight for me, did you happen to catch any of the Ciutat shows? I heard it was pretty brutal for 1 weekend ticket holders. I stayed for the DJ Coco set at the end of Saturday/Sunday morning. The atmosphere and crowd were incredible, had a nice chill on the beach afterwards which felt so good after 11 days of music. by rexuspatheticus (Tue 14th Jun 2022 5:20pm)
  • I go to gigs on my own all the time. I'm not the biggest fan of metal as I grew up in the era of nu metal and it put me off it for a long time. I'll give those bands a listen though and you might end up with someone tagging along. I've gotten into acts like Portal, Blood Incantation and Imperial Triumphant over the last few years. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 15th Jun 2022 9:24am)

  • Wee bit of warning about commander from personal experience. Try to find folks who seem like they're doing this to get out of the house for a few hours. You know, away from the wife and kids to chill and have a laugh. The meta deck try hard mob are all over the format like a rash and seem to not understand the concept of having a bit of casual fun. When you sit down for a game have a good chat with the players about the power level of your deck and how you'd like the game to go, that avoids the chance of playing against some wombo combo netdeck that you may as well go get a pint or coffee rather than sit at the table and watch go off. Avoid geek retreat Glasgow at all costs, I hear that's where the worst of the community congregate. There are fun people out there to play EDH with but it takes time to find them. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 19th Jun 2022 9:16pm)

  • It would be cool if something like that opened again. Especially if it had a bath full of goldfish. I was a bit too young for it but my folks took me there on our way home from T in the Park 1999 and it was a memory I still treasure. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 23rd Jun 2022 4:32pm)
  • I've only been refused entry to Sleazys once. It was absolutely pissing down with torrential rain and I had on a pretty light coat. Bouncer asked for my ID but I asked could I come in out the rain to get it and my gig ticket out. He just put his hand on my shoulder and told me I wasn't getting in. I hadn't had a drink at all, guy just decided I wasn't getting in. The wet trudge back to the subway was grim and I vowed to never go back to Sleazys.....I think I lasted two months by rexuspatheticus (Tue 28th Jun 2022 10:32am)

I went there years back after a recommendation and I had a curry with mushrooms in it, it was clear those mushrooms were from a tin or something because they tasted god awful and were slimey and rubbery. It really puy me off the place. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 29th Jul 2022 9:09am)

  • Nope I go to gigs on my own all the time, I really enjoy it. Only bad thing is between sets, I sometimes go for a wee wander or something after the support, but that's not always possible. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 29th Oct 2022 2:29pm)
  • It's fecking grim isn't it. The worst of it us that "offical" poppy merch stand that you see some years on Buchanan St. The whole idea of remembrance day has become a weird fetishisation of the military. To be fair "In Flanders Fields" really doesn't deserve to be held in the same regard as the war poems of Sassoon or Owen as it gets a bit warmongering at the end. Suicide in the Trenches seems a lot more apt in my opinion. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 4th Nov 2022 10:22am)
  • God forbid you take a wee sec asking what you want, Glasgow's closest thing to the Soup Nazi. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 5th Nov 2022 11:36am)
  • So I've been there a good few times, the bingo/shoot out is good fun, everyone there is lovely and the booze is far too cheap Think my two best memories there have to be the two most different gigs you could probably go to. First I saw Joanna Newsom in there, now to say I was slightly in love with her at the time would be a massive understatement. She was amazing, though there was one lad who was eccied out his nut and have a whole party on his own, which didn't really fit the vibe, also she commented that she'd be pretty scared to be in a venue decorated like that in the USA. Second was Lightning Bolt, the support was an old Glasgow band called Gay Against You who were utterly mental and handed out cupcakes during their set, most people refused them as they probably thought they were laced with what ever made G.A.Y act like the way they were. During the Lightning Bolt set (they play in the middle of the crowd if you don't know) Alex Kapranos was standing on the stage, enjoying the show but definitely not wanting to be involved in the madness that was going on near the band. I got to play the infamous old game of touch the symbol during the Lightning Bolt set and I doubt my hearing will ever be the same. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 6th Nov 2022 2:24pm)
  • Guys at remade are a good bunch. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 9th Nov 2022 9:41am)

  • I miss the Monday deal they did a few years back. That was something else, super cheap pizzas and suppers. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 3rd Dec 2022 2:32pm)
  • It was so much better when it was the cozy wee place in merchant City. It was always busy then and I think they felt they could/should move to a bigger premises. Problem is that meant it lost a lot of it's charm. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 4th Dec 2022 6:18pm)
  • My main gripes with g-force was them giving me feck all for my copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga on Saturn only to have it in a case for £80 a couple of months later, and the time they sold me a secondhand copy of Nintendogs as if it was brand new. Aside from that they were an OK shop. I recently watched the episode of Consolevania that went into it and got some nostalgia. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 12th Dec 2022 12:39pm)
  • I'd be up for seeing them if they would only play stuff from the first two albums and the Captain EP. It's one of those bands that just went right downhill for me. I remember seeing them just when that American English album came out and there was a definite split in the crowd. I just wanted them to play stuff from Captain. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 21st Dec 2022 10:37am)
  • Yeah I saw that. That's when I kinda went off them. I remember they did shows in Tuts for each album, but they sold out super quick. At least I have the memory of seeing them back in the day a good few times, I remember them playing at the Virgin at the top of Buchanan St when it first opened, I had to queue up before school to get a wristband for it haha. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 21st Dec 2022 11:20am)
  • Same age as you and I've drifted apart from the people I was friends with 15 years ago as well for similar reasons. I have a lot of hobbies and interests so I've ended up making quite a few friends to replace the ones I've lost. I can image this would be harder if you have kids, but you should make time for things you personally enjoy, even if it's just joining a hill walking or running club. As others have said here, meetup.com is great for things like this. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 22nd Dec 2022 7:46am)

  • I am not a wrestling fan, but I told my friend who is a big fan the reason I have a massive amount of respect for wrestling. Think back to 100 years ago, theatre was for everyone, these days it has a bit of a snobby, pretentious quality that can put people off. The only theatre that still exists for the masses is pantomime... and wrestling. by rexuspatheticus (Mon 23rd Jan 2023 10:30am)

  • Grew up in an Irish Catholic family who are Celtic mad. Moved to another country when I was a wee kid and lived there for nearly 7 years. Learned to like another team due to this. I got a lot of shit for that, learned that so many of the Celtic fans I knew were just as terrible bigots and racists as the Rangers fans they claimed were worse. In high school, most of my best friends were fans of Rangers or other teams, and that got rid of the last of the brainwashing. Now I go to random Juniors games and go see Partick. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 1st Mar 2023 9:54am)

To be fair that was from a few years ago bit I'll keep looking later-just about to meeta friend right now. As for other stuff this is all from personal experience so you can take it with a grain of salt. Being shouted at by the manager by daring to ask about an event that I didn't know was on cancelled and asked "why don't you just check facebook?" The fact that they regularly withhold free prizes support for card game events so they can sell them later. • Yeah, I was a regular and I remember bumping into the former owner/head chef working in Ramen Dayo when it was in the same space as La Cheetah. I never delved too much into what happened, but he did mention a shitty investor, think it was the same people who own Kebabish. by rexuspatheticus (Wed 12th Jul 2023 11:13pm)
  • He was only working at it, not an owner at Ramen Dayo. Ramen Dayo has some drama as well, as far as I know. Real Ramen Dayo is now Mikaku and I think has the original head chef, Ramen Dayo name was taken by an investor or something and is a completely different thing to the original. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 13th Jul 2023 12:18pm)

  • 13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 5th Aug 2023 11:06pm)
  • So there was a conductor on my regular morning train who was the worst. She'd demand to see everyones tickets every time. I get a zone card, and the conductors generally get used to your face if you get the same train every day and don't bother asking you after a few times, but not her. She's also get super pissy if you took any time to pull your pass out of your bag or jacket. Needless to say, she was a bit of a pain in the arse. So another thing about my morning train, sometimes this almost blind lad gets on, and he's often helped off at central by the passengers, not the staff. So one morning, a few years back, I was on a train she was working, and the blind lad got on. As the train approached Central, I saw her look about and then purposefully leave the carriage he was on, just so she didn't need to bother her arse having to actually help a customer. I made a complaint to the staff at the ticket gates, about staff actually being there to do their job helping the vulnerable but got fobbed off. Thankfully, I've not seen that wee wretched witch for a good while now, but she really soured me on all the talk of staff being there for the passengers during the strikes. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 17th Aug 2023 4:31pm)

  • I used to be full on pro Palestine, but I've seen a definite shift in how this issue is being depicted in online spaces - not this demo though mind, and it really put it all in perspective for me. Even though I believe in peace for the region, I refuse to march for a ceasefire when I can not see it having the slightest positive impact. Ever since even before 1948 the Jews in Israel have felt surrounded by enemies and in fear, this has led to a bit of an abhorrent attitude from many leaders and other groups, but that doesn't make all Isrealis, fervent zionists or islamaphobes. I fully believe Jewish people deserve to live there, and it would be ignorant to think a large portion of Muslims feel the same. Neither the West nor the Muslim world seem to want or be able to make fundamental changes to the ruling parties in Palestine. Abbas is said to be richer than Netanyahu, and yet we hear of the terrible conditions in Gaza and the West Bank, Amnesty sees both Fatah and Hamas as oppressive regimes, so the Palestinian people aren't even free when not under Isreali attack. So let's have a ceasefire to only have dissidents disappear and homosexuals beating in jails. Neither side is willing to accept a 2 state agreement. too much blood has been spilt, and far too much greed and violence from both sides. What is the point of a ceasefire? Hamas will just arm up for this again, and no one will make headway on any decision. The situation is just beyond fucked, I can't see a way out and I am on no ones side apart from the innocent s, both Palestinian and Israeli who suffer because of all of this. by rexuspatheticus (Sat 11th Nov 2023 11:27pm)
  • Wow, what a well thought out response. Thanks for your insight on this complex matter.. Trust me, I've been thinking a lot about this issue since October 7th. I'm not lying to myself. I know where I stand and how I feel about it. Just because I don't align with you doesn't mean I am in denial. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 12th Nov 2023 12:21am)
  • So it would help if you read my initial comment. I had been pro Palestine for years. I was involved with events like Climb for Palestine and the like, I have a clearly defined memory of my disgust at the use of white phosphorus bombs by the IDF back in the late 2000s and was so proud that channel 4 news rode the Israeli spokes person over the coals about it. I have kept fairly well informed about this situation in regards to illegal settlements and the like for most of my adult life. The change that happened on October 7th was the mix of online spaces filling with pro hamas tankies, who refuse to debate, and this push for a ceasefire just because it seems the right thing to do, with no focus on what the plan is, just brush it under the carpet and move on. I feel it's far too complex to just turn around and tell Israel to stop. Far too many groups with evil agendas exist on both sides who seem to want to prolong this conflict and I don't think marching for some ceasefire without clearly stating that some kind of change needs to be made within both nations seems utterly pointless. No one is going to step up and fix this, because it's beyond fucked and I don't think a ceasefire is the way to go.But then again I honestly don't know what it could be without some nations stepping up and deciding to force change. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 12th Nov 2023 12:44am)

  • Shame that they're not saying anything about it then, I mean Saudi's are as much our allies as Israel if not more, seeing as we actually have military stationed there. But Muslim on Muslim violence doesn't get as much attention, obviously. I consider myself pretty damn left leaning and used to be all on board with the Palestinian cause, but over the last few months I've really had my eyes opened to the patterns and some folks attitudes and I can't stand alongside people like that. Don't think I don't want this all to end asap, but I want a solution to this situation as well, and to me that means removal of the totalitarian repressive Hamas and PLO regimes, and Bibi and Co to face proper punishment for all they have done. by rexuspatheticus (Thu 7th Dec 2023 10:30pm)

  • Don't see how I'm the hypocritical one here. I am just pointing out that there is more than one horrible conflict going on that we can hold BAE to account for. I'm not planning on doing any protesting and picking and choosing what is important. To focus on just one gives off a certain signal that I find a tad unsettling. by rexuspatheticus (Fri 8th Dec 2023 11:39am)
  • A band I've not seen in well over a decade because I started to feel their material got repetitive and played out. But I do remember the singer being absolutely cringe last few times I saw them, doing things like asking a random lass from the crowd to put makeup on him or telling all the men to sit down so he could pretend he was playing to a mostly female crowd. by rexuspatheticus (Sun 10th Dec 2023 9:19am)
