  • There’s a place on Renfield Street called China Blue that’s also tucked away up stairs. I haven’t been in a little while but it’s pretty good. Feels a bit sketchy (decor wise), but always full of Chinese people eating in there so that’s always a good sign. I recommend giving it a shot. Btw, does anyone remember the name of the Chinese place that used to be next door to Nanakusa on Sauchiehall Street? It was more of a cafe, but the guy who ran is was lovely and they had a pinball machine as a bonus. That place was amazing. by shortymcsteve (Sat 5th Jan 2019 7:56pm)
  • Yep, that's it! I always wondered why they closed. by shortymcsteve (Sun 6th Jan 2019 7:11am)
  • I've never heard of this show before, but I gave the first episode a watch and instantly knew where their shop was located. Didn't expect to see Alness St in Hamilton of all places 😂 This is classic 90's Channel 4 at its finest. by shortymcsteve (Wed 23rd Jan 2019 7:53am)
  • My papa says “Jack-an-orry” in those types of situations (not sure how to spell it exactly). There’s also the phrase “Och aye, John Mckay” that gets used randomly. by shortymcsteve (Thu 24th Jan 2019 7:09am)
  • Interesting! Thanks. I always wondered where that came from. by shortymcsteve (Thu 24th Jan 2019 10:57am)
  • Chippy Doon The Lane is my favorite. It's a sit down place though, but they serve up proper fish and chips for a decent price. Probably one of my favourite places to eat in the city centre. by shortymcsteve (Tue 29th Jan 2019 12:49pm)
  • Why Gilmour Street? Seems like it would be a nightmare to figure that one out. St.James is a lot closer to the airport. They could build a light rail from there and run it along side the motorway. by shortymcsteve (Wed 30th Jan 2019 9:48pm)
  • Yeah but trains could be added specifically for the airport. Theres quiet as few patches of empty land further down the line they could use to turn the train around. To save even more money they could also just add an official bus service from that station to the terminal. It's just over 1 mile away by road. Would probably get used a lot if the station was renamed. by shortymcsteve (Thu 31st Jan 2019 5:38am)
  • That makes sense. I didn't think about people coming the other way. by shortymcsteve (Thu 31st Jan 2019 10:30am)
  • What do you mean by "going off for months"? Most people only ever hear them on the 5th Nov and NYE, unless I'm misunderstanding. I'm actually quite surprised by the strong objection people have towards them. by shortymcsteve (Sun 3rd Feb 2019 6:37pm)
  • Yeah, fair enough. I just checked the dates they are for sale and it matches what you’re saying. I don’t know why they sell them starting 15th Oct, seems pretty early and open to causing an annoyance like you’re talking about. 1st - 10th Nov would be fine (6th - 10th allowing shops to get rid of excess stock to people buying them cheap for NYE). Currently they are on sale between 15th Oct - 10th Nov, 26th Dec - 31st Dec, and 3 days before Diwali and Chinese New Year. by shortymcsteve (Sun 3rd Feb 2019 8:54pm)
  • What one? On Hope street? by shortymcsteve (Fri 22nd Mar 2019 11:21pm)
  • Aye? And do you think an Apple is actually a Peach? You're a Millennial, just accept it. It's an age group, not a mindset. by shortymcsteve (Wed 5th Jun 2019 12:14pm)
  • Anyone born between 1981 and 1996 is a Millennial. I agree about generational experiences, but the group you're thinking of are called Generation Z, not Millennials. by shortymcsteve (Wed 5th Jun 2019 1:38pm)
  • "Part of the campus was being transformed into more than 400 flats at a cost of £100m." Of course by shortymcsteve (Sat 8th Jun 2019 8:08pm)
  • Still pretty sad about that shop closing. by shortymcsteve (Tue 11th Jun 2019 7:16am)
  • Do they have a completion date for that project? by shortymcsteve (Thu 19th Sep 2019 10:18am)
  • Here’s a [map](https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/Glasgow%20v5.pdf) of the train lines to better understand how connected areas outside the city centre are. Some of these lines have a train coming every 15minutes. Busses are less reliable, so I wouldn’t pick my location based on them. But Night Bus services do exist if you’re in the city after midnight. They usually begin around 3am-ish. by shortymcsteve (Sat 21st Sep 2019 4:35am)
  • We still don’t have a train that goes to the airport. There’s no way they can figure out a subway extension if they can’t sort out an essential rail link. by shortymcsteve (Thu 10th Oct 2019 8:52pm)
  • To be fair to the guy, this has previously happened on reddit. But it's not governments doing this, it's 'Big Data' type companies. Like Cambridge Analytica for example. They have admitted to using reddit to influence voters. by shortymcsteve (Tue 15th Oct 2019 2:54pm)
  • Wow didn't even know about this place and it's super close to me. Their website says they are currently closed though? I went down the rabbit hole of google maps suggested places and there's also a place super close to me called 'Greenhall Country Cafe and farm shop' that sells Wagyu Beef of all things. by shortymcsteve (Sun 27th Oct 2019 2:45pm)
  • How long ago did they close the shop? Mick is a legend. MBC was one of the first skate shops I ever visited. It's quite sad the likes of MBC and Boardwise don't exist anymore. I remember some other wee skate shop that was somewhere about the west end about 15 years ago but I can't even remember what it was called or where it was. Dont think it lasted long. I just remembered it was painted all white and at the end of a street somewhere. by shortymcsteve (Tue 5th Nov 2019 6:23am)
  • Where in EK? I can barely remember it. I recall buying my first ps1 memory card from Electronic Boutique though in princess mall. by shortymcsteve (Tue 5th Nov 2019 6:27am)
  • Hellfire. Ah yeah. Every bit of clothing in that shop was black. I bought a bunch of band merch there. They didn't seem to last long after moving to Queen street. by shortymcsteve (Tue 5th Nov 2019 7:08am)
  • Wow I just looked this place up. How do you find what you’re looking for in that shop? Looks like you would have to get lucky by (literally) stumbling across a random find. Nice suggestion though, always nice to find cool independent shops I don’t know existed. by shortymcsteve (Mon 18th Nov 2019 5:07pm)
  • I actually wonder how many other people have the same thoughts. If it's a decent enough number, can you imagine if all the people like yourself wore masks without caring? Then the people without them would be the ones feeling awkward and pressured and it would change social norms. I know this is a totally different subject, but it reminds me of [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GA8z7f7a2Pk) video. The first few guys look like a bunch of weirdos until everyone starts joining in. It's the same human mentality really. The change starts with you. by shortymcsteve (Wed 1st Jul 2020 7:56am)
  • Wow, that's crazy. I want to know how a 129 year-old piece of paper ended up in the middle of the main street. by shortymcsteve (Fri 3rd Jul 2020 1:48pm)
  • Since people are saying it should be avoided, is there anywhere else that's similar in style and size? I really like how big those flats are, and in the short time I spent there they seemed to be super quiet. Most of the other modern places I've looked at are tiny in comparison. by shortymcsteve (Sat 11th Jul 2020 9:32pm)
  • *"You can only leave your accommodation in limited circumstances. These include where: You need access to basic necessities like food and medicines (including for any pets or animals in the household), but please try to first arrange for these to be delivered to you instead to reduce the number of times you need to leave your accommodation"* You're not wrong, but only if you can't get basic necessities delivered. • Why are they getting rid of the car park? It's always busy and seems like a needed use of the space. A nicer spot for a park would be the open area on Wilson street. I think it would be a more enjoyable space due to less traffic, and also help the street look a lot better. by shortymcsteve (Tue 21st Jul 2020 3:20pm)
  • Yep, that's the one. People have been hosting different events on that corner of the land for a wee while now, so I figured it would make sense to solidify it as a park or some kind of events space. I'm glad to see there's a plan in place for that whole block, because it really needs it. The Trongate side is especially grim. by shortymcsteve (Tue 21st Jul 2020 4:55pm)

  • That guy was one of my lecturers at college. He ended up doing [some time.](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-22703443) I was kind of gutted when I read the news, because he was actually a really nice guy. No excuses though. by shortymcsteve (Wed 29th Jul 2020 6:39pm)
  • Do you mean a rehearsal room? Almost any recording studio will let you rent the space without an engineer, but I get the impression you are talking long term? by shortymcsteve (Thu 30th Jul 2020 8:32pm)

  • Do they have a location you can visit, or are they just a food truck? I'm very confused by their website. by shortymcsteve (Thu 13th Aug 2020 8:50pm)
  • Fuck man, I was trying to figure out exactly where that was recently and what It was called. For some reason I remember it having a truck sticking out the front exactly like The Garage. I went there for my 10th Birthday with some of my friends. The first game we fought a group of kids younger than us. We were playing on easy mode thinking we were amazing. Second game was different, the big guys arrived and we were now shitting our pants. Before the game even started I broke rule number 1 - No Running. Big mistake. While trying to run away from the older guys, my face firmly collided with my friends 6" thick, heavy as fuck, body pack at full speed. It made easy work of my 10 year-old nose. The birthday boy was now the first and only blood covered casualty of the game. I managed to find assistace from an employee up a ladder changing a light bulb in the arena. I'm sure health and safety would've been all over that, but the sketchy employee saved me from bleeding all over the battlefield. And that was it, the end of my laser quest career. I was shamefully returned to my mum and dad after robbing myself of my birthday experience, and silently judged that I just wasted them 5 quid. At least I still got to go to the experience that is the Argyle Street McDonald's afterwards. by shortymcsteve (Thu 13th Aug 2020 9:29pm)
  • Are you sure that's not the smell of the sewage? It still smells bad when crossing the Kelvin. I remember that awful smell when arriving in the North of the city centre from the motor way. My dad always told me it was from the brewery. I'm quite sure it still existed until about 10 years ago? by shortymcsteve (Thu 13th Aug 2020 10:06pm)

  • You are thinking about [this.](http://www.ukemergencyaviation.co.uk/G-SPOL.htm) They haven't been like that since the 90's I think. You can use [this](https://globe.adsbexchange.com) website to check what's flying overhead - it doesn't block the police unlike other websites/apps. Although I noticed it doesn't always pick up low flying helicopters and there's a few dead spots, but if you see It you can google the reg to find out what it is. by shortymcsteve (Tue 8th Sep 2020 9:47am)
  • They have a campus in NY? Wow. I was baffled when I walked past UWS London, but GCU in NY is something else. I would genuinely like to know why that is necessary and what it provides. by shortymcsteve (Tue 8th Sep 2020 10:34pm)

  • I think schools are half the problem. My dad works in one and it makes me so angry hearing about how they are dealing with covid cases. I tried to complain to the government because I thought they were breaking the law and got no where. If I was him I would completely refuse to work under such unsafe conditions. There's whole classrooms that have been sent home except for the teachers, because the schools are scared of finding replacements. by shortymcsteve (Tue 17th Nov 2020 3:18pm)

I've never heard anyone say 'Southside Central' - But somehow that appears on google maps. • People will just ignore it like they ignore the nearest bin. The council really need to hire some wardens to aggressively fine people until we see an improvement. They also need to hire more street cleaners. Schools should educate young people on the issue so it’s in their heads from an early age that littering isn’t good. by shortymcsteve (Wed 10th Feb 2021 6:29pm)
  • John Swinney is the man who cancelled the airport link before. The GCC leader was against the cancellation and accused parliament of being anti-Glasgow. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/8256474.stm The amount of money wasted on that project is incredible. I still can’t believe they bought the land needed, then sold it back at a much lower cost. Like most people, I have no faith they will deliver this until it’s complete. by shortymcsteve (Wed 10th Feb 2021 6:44pm)

There's a shop in from Japan called Book Off/Hard Off where they sell tons of used books/hardware/games in amazing condition and I can imagine it going perfectly in that space. He's also against gay marriage, opposed pardons for gay sex convictions, and at the start of the pandemic went against government guidelines by still holding [face to face surgeries.](https://twitter.com/Jeane_F1/status/1242041548356890625?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1242041548356890625%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thenational.scot%2Fnews%2F18327325.health-secretary-scolds-john-mason-face-to-face-constituency-surgeries%2F) He even blasted Easterhouse Baptist Church for cancelling services by saying on Facebook: "Surely we should be bold, take risks, and trust in Jesus?". There's no room for people like this guy in Holyrood, and it's really disappointing to read his comments after being elected. • Because a lot of the people on reddit defending the actions of these fans have been constantly saying that anyone against them are attacking the working class and being classist dicks. When really people are just fed up with the behaviour that can be found on that twitter page. Just take a look through it and maybe you'll understand the complaining. by shortymcsteve (Sun 16th May 2021 12:59am)
  • Yeah I thought about this too. It's unfair to the rest of the fans, but maybe some peer preasure could change some folk in the long run. But tbh would the type of people doing this even care? Half of them probably don't even go to the games. The culture needs to change though. by shortymcsteve (Sun 16th May 2021 7:06pm)

  • How many bags do you have? British Airways baggage allowance is apparently 23kg for a checked bag and 23kg for a carry on. Each extra checked bag is an additional £60. If you fly business class you get 2 checked bags included. The reason I mention this is because you can sometimes get those seats quite cheap. The sooner you book the flight, the cheaper it will be. Same goes for train ticket prices, but please note that you would have to take the London underground, or Heathrow express train (pretty expensive) to the middle of London to then board a train to Glasgow. Flying is overall easier and recommended if taking the train is around the same price. by shortymcsteve (Wed 26th May 2021 6:20pm)

  • > But if I am taking flight, I will have to come to University of Glasgow again. What do you mean by this? If you are taking the train, check nationalrail.co.uk and thetrainline.com - Watch out for services that include switching train or using a bus. I noticed that a lot of the options include a bus for some reason, but you can take the train all the way. by shortymcsteve (Wed 26th May 2021 7:11pm)
  • Yes, you are correct about that. You would have a take a bus from the airport to the city centre. Check my post above, I just edited it to give you more info you may find useful. by shortymcsteve (Wed 26th May 2021 7:19pm)
  • You're welcome! On further reading, I'm unsure if you are eligible for a rail card - at least when buying online. I think you may have to purchase one at a train station, which could be an issue given your current situation. It may be worth phoning them to ask what your options are. They have contact information on the railcard website. by shortymcsteve (Wed 26th May 2021 7:40pm)

  • I think the concern for some people that is that we will end up with the same situation like in England where the tories are constantly voted in with no change in sight. Currently there's no real opposition in Scotland or England, and if you don't believe the SNP will break up post independence then I can see why people would not want to change anything. There's also the though that the current government situation somewhat balances things a bit. I have a different opinion, but I can understand the logic. by shortymcsteve (Fri 28th May 2021 10:43pm)

  • They died out at the start of the last decade really. I feel recently some people are trying to bring it back, but it's rare you see people walking about in a trackie trying to fight people these days. No one has mention this yet, but in 2005 the police set up a 'Violence Reduction Unit' as part of a national scheme aimed at curbing knife crime. They decided to stop treating it as a criminal problem and instead took a public health approach. There's quite a few articles that cover this and I think even some documentaries, but we went from "Murder capital of Europe", to a pretty safe environment. I'd say the police and social workers are largely responsible for the shift in ned culture. by shortymcsteve (Tue 8th Jun 2021 7:45pm)

  • > Doesn't matter if you're bumping them for a longer journey, they don't seem to care. I don't know man, I've saw people get thrown off for that. Any time I go further than the stop I've paid for I always have the feeling like the driver is about to stop and kick me off. The worst is when you're the last one left on the bus and the driver keeps looking back in mirror like he's getting more and more annoyed with each jolt of the eyes. That's when the sweats start hitting. by shortymcsteve (Wed 22nd Sep 2021 5:43am)
  • £1.40? That's a bit disapointing. I think the normal packs cost about that much and I always see them on sale for even cheaper. 10 tea cakes are £1.25 in Lidl. I was kind of expecting something crazy like 20 snowballs for £1 for the factory rejects but that's probably not realistic. by shortymcsteve (Mon 27th Sep 2021 5:51am)

  • I don't understand what is stopping them from building a station just up from Paisley St James at Direct Parking, or even at the end of the runway and then running a bus from the station to the terminal. The bus would take a few minutes on the already existing roads. Also, it's almost 1 mile from St James to the terminal in a straight line, so a tunnel wouldn't be the craziest idea compared to what they've proposed over the years. by shortymcsteve (Sat 23rd Oct 2021 10:47am)

  • I knew it was around basically 1sq mile, but decided to look up the exact area because some boring bastard would probably try correct me. • > Labour ran the council into the ground for decades And what is Susan Aitken and Co currently doing? They refuse to take responsibility and actively make things worse. Just look at the major waste issue everyone here keeps complaining about. Instead of increasing services, they cut them. Now we have bin men on strike over working and pay conditions, and when this is raised in parliment the First Minister claims it's politics nonsense and there's no problem? We're also told every city has rats.. come on. They showed us they can tidy up for COP, but not for everyone else. Forget the party these people are part of and ask yourself if any of this is fair to the public. I think the biggest problem is that people don't know who their local councillors are and vote based on the party alone. I'm not taking about voting for MSP's here, I'm talking about the 85 councillors that make up GCC. by shortymcsteve (Thu 4th Nov 2021 6:29pm)
  • I don't know which councilers would be better, that's why I plan to do my research and vote for whoever seems most fit for the job in next years election. People do make fun of Tories sometimes though."* You're not American either.. And honestly, why does someone posting on r/glasgow not have the right to talk about politics of another country, especially a country that's policies directly impact us? You also have no idea of this guys background! I know Americans that live here and post on this subreddit. FFS, my long term gf is American and I've spent over a year of my life living there in different states. Just calm down, and stop assuming you know someones nationality based on the subreddits they post on. There's no point getting so worked up about this. • People race them, and it sounds like your neighbours are trying to train them to come home. After a while he will take them further and further away. My papa used to keep pigeons for years until he got too old. He had a hut in his back garden, but I don't remember him ever keeping any there. There's a club local to him and the members have an area where they all have pigeon lofts. I think my uncle still keeps some and I know of a few other people that do. A big lorry stops by one of the club members business and they fill it up with the pigeons in baskets before taking them to France or wherever the race is starting from. I believe you pay some money to enter, creating a prize pool, and the winners get a share. by shortymcsteve (Mon 22nd Nov 2021 3:40pm)

Sometimes you can get lucky and find a steal for not much money, which is far better than spending stupid amounts on eBay for something that no one wanted a few years ago. Be prepared to spend a lot of money on film and development costs though. The price of film keeps increasing and there's a bit of a shortage right now, almost to the point where it's getting too expensive. by shortymcsteve (Tue 23rd Nov 2021 4:40pm)

  • I know some people have said Beast can mean a tank of a guy, but most people I know born in the 90's will use it to describe something good. Could be someone showing off their new car and their friend would say "Aw man, that's a pure beast of a motor". I actually think this derived from people calling something big a beast, that also happened to be considered good. So then anything considered good just became a beast. Depends on the context though, I've heard people use it to call a girl ugly. And some girls in my high school would call people beasties, which normally refers to a bug. by shortymcsteve (Sat 11th Dec 2021 7:10pm)

If she was not married to her partner, they would have to fight an up hill legal battle to even try to gain any money. The other 50% of the estate would be available to her children if there's nowhere else for the money to go - i.e, another party, debt payments, etc. You should absolutely seek legal advice, because what has happened is illegal. And if there was any estate tax to be paid, well.. HMRC will not be happy with her partners actions either. I can recommend a lawyer if you want one? by shortymcsteve (Wed 15th Dec 2021 7:42pm)

  • Yeah that's the same for me. The great thing about the city is that it's small but there's a lot to do, especially when you're a student. So it's pretty easy to travel around using the subway & busses. Plus, if you get bored you can hop on a train to basically anywhere in the country. For example - Edinburgh is exactly 1 hour away via train and very touristy, definitely worth a day trip or two. If you have a weekend free you could even head up North to the Highlands or down South to England at some point. Don't worry, your 3 months will fly by! • Yeah.. I've been to Toronto twice and it's one of the most expensive cities I've visited in NA. Average hotels were 2-3 times the price of Glasgow and the food was at least double. I'm just as confused as everyone else. by shortymcsteve (Sun 22nd May 2022 11:48am)

  • There's already an active line that goes right past the airport. Not sure what's stopping them from building a station at West Match Road and having a bus service that runs from the platform to the terminal. It's by far the cheapest option and wouldn't take much to implement. If they wanted to get fancy with it, they could run a light rail from the terminal to the train line. by shortymcsteve (Wed 8th Jun 2022 11:04pm)
  • I'll believe this new line when I see it. The cost to put rail into populated areas where one does't already exist will be enormous, so I don't see how this is more cost effective than moving an already established station down the line by 600 meters? The line is currently only used once every 30 minutes. I agree that servicing those other areas would be great, but this is an easy solution for a rail link and one they have chosen to ignore. by shortymcsteve (Thu 9th Jun 2022 1:06am)

  • If you are under 30, as a Canadian you can apply for a [Youth Mobility Visa](https://www.gov.uk/youth-mobility) to say in the UK for 2 years. After that, you can apply for a partnership visa - but it is *extremely* important that you document you have been living with your partner for those 2 years. Because if you don't, good luck proving it for the partnership visa. Also, you can't really apply for most visas while inside the UK. If you visit on a tourist visa with intentions to stay you can get in some trouble. Not sure how difficult it is to apply for the YMV, but I recommend hiring an immigration lawyer if you it it. Some visas requite a lot of paperwork that you could easily fuck up. DM me if you need a recommendation. by shortymcsteve (Wed 27th Jul 2022 2:37am)

For example, their guitar pedals can be found under other band names (I’ve seen a few sold under the name ‘Joyo’). It’s quite possible the guitar he’s after could be found under another name if you do some research, but I’m not 100% sure. • The subway and busses are free for children under 5. I think the trains might be too, but I'm not 100% sure. I know they have a scheme where up to 4 children can travel for £1 when you buy an adult ticket. And in turn, those tickets also gain one child free entry into some good places such as Edinburgh Zoo. You can find more on that [here.](https://www.scotrail.co.uk/kids-go-free) There's also various rail and bus cards that exist for discount journeys if you plan to use one of those, although I would avoid busses if you don't have to use them due to reliability. Most museums are free across Scotland, and there's plenty of nice parks with visiting (some have animals). It's not weird if you don't drink, no one will care. Kids can go into some pubs - usually if they serve food it's no issue. Some pubs have licenses that specifically do not allow children. My only real tip is that you should know it gets dark quite early in the middle of winter, and the sun rises late - Something to thing about when planning your day. My first thought was jokingly “I bet it’s someone who taught me”, and sure enough.. 😐 I actually really liked him, was very nice and pleasant to everyone. Always full of stories. A few people would occasionally bring up his band. I felt like he really cared about the students too and would notice if you were having a bad day. • I don’t really think a financial advisor is worth paying for. My advice would be to figure out how you wish to invest and go from there (i.e which type of product). My recommendation would be to look into opening a cash ISA. They are a tax free way to invest your money, and you’re able to put up to £20k per tax year into them. You should also look into a SIPP if you’re thinking about pensions. The end of the tax year are really soon, so it would be worth taking advantage of this year allowance. I personally use hl.co.uk - They’ve actually sent me quite a few emails recently advertising that you can schedule a call with one of their advisors to figure out what products best suit you. I’m sure some of the other big investment companies will offer such services too. It may also be worth reading some advice from [money saving expert](https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/investments/) if you wish to leave how some of these saving/investing accounts work. by shortymcsteve (Thu 23rd Mar 2023 1:55pm)
  • What are the plans for St.Enoch centre? I’m really impressed with how busy it has been since the redevelopment. It was pretty shit before, but they somehow turned it around. Makes no sense to me that they should demolish both shopping malls, especially when they are full of shops and people. by shortymcsteve (Wed 29th Mar 2023 11:54pm)
  • How can it be considered dead when it’s always incredibly busy? A few years ago it felt dead when half the shops were shut, but It’s always full of people now. I don’t understand this logic. I think demolishing those two shopping malls will be one of the biggest mistakes in the city centres history. by shortymcsteve (Thu 30th Mar 2023 11:51am)

  • I’m going to recommend against this as someone who went down this route. There’s far too many courses focusing on sound engineering and no where near enough jobs. The pay is also shit. People expect you to be on £10/h or less. You also have to fight against hundreds of new students every year offering to do the job for free. by shortymcsteve (Wed 24th May 2023 9:12am)
  • When was the last time you were in it? It’s full of shops and people. Far busier than Buchanan galleries. People keep saying it’s empty on this subreddit and I don’t know why, because it’s simply not true. by shortymcsteve (Fri 26th May 2023 6:52pm)
  • Every time I’ve been it’s been jumping, even during the week. At weekends it’s jam packed, and I imagine it helps that they have more stuff to do there than just shopping compared to Buchanan galleries. Bowling, cinema, axe throwing, etc. The redevelopment is impressive considering it was actually half empty pre covid. by shortymcsteve (Fri 26th May 2023 8:45pm)

  • If you’re walking, the nearest regular bus stop is at the Kingarth Hotel. It’s about a 3 mile walk according to google maps. I wanted to go yesterday and ran into the same problem. Ended up at a different beach. The tourist hop on hop off bus goes to Scalpsie bay though. There’s 4 buses a day, and it’s £14 for an adult. You can use the ticket on the normal busses too. I went on it a few year ago and though it was a great way to see the island, but I remember it being way cheaper and more frequent. £14 is a bit of a robbery imo. by shortymcsteve (Tue 30th May 2023 3:56pm)
  • I’m not sure what the cost is. To Ettrick beach it was £4 return. And there’s a £4.50 all day ticket on the bus companies app (WCM Buses) - so you shouldn’t have to pay more than that. I don’t think they sell the day ticket on the bus for some reason though. Also two things worth noting - 1. The buses use contactless. 2. You can get a combined train/ferry ticket. It’s worth checking how much the cost is if you break down your rail trip to multiple legs. I noticed it was somehow more expensive to travel from Glasgow central, compared to buying a ticket further out. Also, some guy was raging at the ferry terminal because the rail staff at his local train station told him they don’t do combined tickets anymore. Mine tried to tell me that too until I showed him on the ScotRail app. Hope this helps! Enjoy the seals by shortymcsteve (Tue 30th May 2023 5:09pm)

  • Good point. I bet they haven’t even considered this. I have noticed that whenever it (inevitably) rains those two shopping centres fill right up. I guess people will now just pile into the nearest shop, but it’s much nicer having an indoor mall when the weather is shit. Plus you can easily grab some food and use the bathroom like you say. It’s almost like having a shopping centre isn’t the worse idea. by shortymcsteve (Wed 31st May 2023 11:51am)
  • If you’re that worried then it might be worth looking at Edinburgh or Prestwick. I just came through Prestwick yesterday and it was by far the best airport experience I’ve had between the three. At check in, I was the only person there. Same with security. On the way back it took no more than 10 minutes to be outside after walking off the plane. They also have a train station which is a massive bonus. The only downside is the lack of destinations. by shortymcsteve (Mon 12th Jun 2023 2:37pm)
  • At small gigs it’s possible. I used to go to tons run by local labels and promoters and would always see the same people and got to know them. Half the time I would show up not really knowing anything about the bands but I know someone I knew would probably be there. This was for alt rock/punk/emo/hardcore type stuff. by shortymcsteve (Tue 13th Jun 2023 5:53pm)

I’m pretty happy about it, because the only place I found selling them was charging £1.10 per 100 grams!!! The YouTube channel “GrowVeg” is pretty helpful for U.K. gardening tips. • It will be interesting to see a map of what they classify as the “Glasgow City Region”. I understand this is mostly a project focusing on building up around the Clyde, but I hope they use this opportunity to fix the public transport issues in the region. by shortymcsteve (Mon 28th Aug 2023 8:58pm)
  • I think some other news outlet has the story. Made a rare check of Facebook and it was on my feed somehow, with hundreds of people commenting. I guess this is what journalism looks like these days. Checking the local subreddit and seeing what you can make a story out of. Embarrassing really. by shortymcsteve (Wed 6th Sep 2023 11:21am)
  • Subsine would be the place I think. Haven’t been to any courses there myself (done a bunch of others), but it’s the one that fits what you’re looking for. by shortymcsteve (Wed 6th Sep 2023 5:10pm)
  • Unfortunately not. 3/4 of the courses I did were for people between the ages of 18-25. There’s quite a few that get funding from Creative Scotland and therefor have that age restriction. One of them was an electronic music course based at Green Door studios - it was all analogue based. Might be worth checking to see if they run anything without an age limit. If you’re looking for something more DAW based, I think Subsine is your best bet. I also recommend staying away from SAE. If you wanted to pressure a course like that, it would be better to attend any proper college/university that offers production courses as a mature student. by shortymcsteve (Wed 6th Sep 2023 6:07pm)
  • What the fuck is wrong with you. I think you need to get outside and enjoy the sun mate. by shortymcsteve (Sat 9th Sep 2023 1:02pm)
  • There’s quite a few farm shops in South Ayrshire area around the country side. You can find them by searching “Farm Shop” on google maps and then pressing “search this area” while moving around. Might be worth mapping them out and picking a few to drive to. Like others have said, the Clyde valley has a bunch of garden centres. If you’re heading that way if you be worth checking out New Lanark if you want something museum-ish to visit. I only recently found out it’s listed as a world heritage site. Another option worth checking out might be Dumfries house. It would probably take an hour or so to drive there depending on where you’re coming from, but along the way you should be able to find some farm shops to visit. by shortymcsteve (Sat 9th Sep 2023 1:14pm)
  • Tomatillo seeds. My Mexican partner moved here recently and tomatillos are almost impossible to find, so I grew a bunch for her. Surprisingly they grow here. They are used a lot of Mexican cooking. by shortymcsteve (Tue 12th Sep 2023 9:35pm)
  • They were kind of a pain to start. Had a 75% failure rate, but I have 8 plants that have so far produced about 130 tomatillos. I think the good weather a few months ago really helped, although they seem quite hardy. by shortymcsteve (Tue 12th Sep 2023 11:30pm)
  • Oh really? I wonder where they get them from. Do you have any idea how much they cost? I did see them in Lupe Pintos once. They wanted £1.20 for 100g and had like 10, which is barley enough to make anything. Someone on Reddit said LP get them from someone growing in a greenhouse. We ended up buying canned ones at first, but they aren’t the same. by shortymcsteve (Wed 13th Sep 2023 9:27am)
  • Thanks. I’ll pop in next time I walk buy and ask. It’s good to know somewhere else sells them if I run out. by shortymcsteve (Wed 13th Sep 2023 9:39am)

  • Get yourself a rice cooker. Probably the best kitchen related purchase I made and I was already decent at making rice. It’s an easy way to supplement meals no matter how good/bad your are in the kitchen. Just make sure to wash your rice. by shortymcsteve (Tue 19th Sep 2023 5:42pm)
  • Police Scotland [did](https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/23342304.no-crimes-identified-glasgow-chinese-secret-police-station/) investigate it. The previous first minister even made [statements](https://www.thenational.scot/news/23082253.nicola-sturgeon-responds-reports-glasgows-loon-fung-front-chinese-police/) saying she was in talks with the police about it. by shortymcsteve (Fri 22nd Sep 2023 1:36pm)
  • Yikes. Okay, first thing is that you should realise this is clearly over and you need to move on. Don’t waste your time trying to make it work (It’s clear he doesn’t want this). Second is that you need to both find somewhere else to live. If you have a mortgage in both your names, the option is to sell or rent it out. I’m guessing there’s no second bedroom, so that rules out one person staying and getting a roommate. My advice would be to think about selling, because you do not want such a financial commitment with an ex partner if it can be helped. If you do agree to keep the property, you should keep records of everything and considering notarising whatever the agreement is to protect your self from legal issues down the line. by shortymcsteve (Sun 24th Sep 2023 8:01pm)
  • Why do I get the feeling that Gavin Brewis wasn’t around during the height of ‘Ned Culture’? I don’t understand all these posts romanticising and revising the history. Ned’s were “victims of systematic violence”? Okay mate. These people were responsible for Glasgow being the murder capital of Europe. The police and Government did an amazing job by treating it as a public health issue. The difference today is incredible. by shortymcsteve (Fri 13th Oct 2023 1:09pm)
  • How does wearing a tracksuit get you chased by the police? Are you saying they decided to stop you, and you ran for no reason? I was definitely around then. My high school had to have a mobile police station installed in the playground for 6 months because one day it erupted into a full on riot using stolen tools from tech while I was standing in the middle. A few of the people involved later went to jail for murder for separate incidents. Listen, I understand stop and search laws might be problematic. But overall the police and government did do a good job. It’s nice not going about the day to day wondering if someone is going to try jump you for absolutely no reason. by shortymcsteve (Fri 13th Oct 2023 2:22pm)

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often. Every time I'm on Sauchiehall street one of these guys almost knocks someone over. by shortymcsteve (Sat 28th Oct 2023 3:57pm)
  • Got family from Dumfries and they all definitely say it down there. But I’m quite surprised people in Kilmarnock is say it. by shortymcsteve (Thu 2nd Nov 2023 12:53pm)
  • How did you miss out Dumfries and Galloway? Also, no one is saying Ken in Lanarkshire. Seems ye dinne ken what your talkin bout. by shortymcsteve (Fri 3rd Nov 2023 12:00am)
  • Folk in the East who say it at the end of sentences are basically saying “..ye know?”. Met a guy from Glenrothes once that said it after every single sentence. My dad’s side of the family are from Dumfries and they would say it like “dinne ken” or “Ken what a mean”, or reply to you saying “ah, a ken”. Never really heard them use it like the end of sentence way. by shortymcsteve (Fri 3rd Nov 2023 12:23am)
  • There’s tons going off around me, and down the street there was an official display going on for a good hour. by shortymcsteve (Sat 4th Nov 2023 9:25pm)
  • This happened 10 years ago now, but I was crossing Sauchiehall st where it intersects with Renfield St and some cyclists going the wrong way (down a one way street) ran me over. Didn’t even see him coming, so I went flying and smashed my head off the road. The scary part was that the light had just change and there was a Range Rover flying down the street. Thought I was about to get squashed, so I hurried up and got to the pavement. The guy asked if I was okay, but before I could answer just cycled on. Felt like shit after that - looking back I’m certain had a concussion. Still remember exactly what the guy looks like and had seen him a few times before flying around the place. Unfortunately it’s not really a new problem. If anything, it feels worse. by shortymcsteve (Tue 7th Nov 2023 2:53pm)

  • The railcard is on sale right now for Black Friday. You can get it for £15 instead of £30 for Black Friday. I think there’s a few companies doing this deal. I did it through trip.com but I don’t recommend that one. I didn’t realise you have to use their app which is a total pain. by shortymcsteve (Sun 26th Nov 2023 10:42am)
  • Usually you just use the railcard app to show it, or you can get a physical card. But for some reason it seems if you buy your railcard via trip.com you need to download their app to access your railcard. It’s very bloated if you are just trying to use it for that purpose. Also, you have to book one rail journey on their app to activate it! (have read mixed things about this online, but that’s what it did to me). I don’t think it can be loaded up on the railcard up. Total pain, especially if you have one where you share it with someone. I’m probably just going to have a screen shot ready since the inspectors just always glance at it. by shortymcsteve (Sun 26th Nov 2023 11:43am)

There was another website doing 50% off but I can’t find it right now. Trainline have 30% off if you use the code ‘ilovetrains’. If they let you use the official app it might be worth the extra money. by shortymcsteve (Sun 26th Nov 2023 1:29pm)

  • If you want to live in a house you need to look outside the city centre. My recommendation would be to look at towns and areas along the train lines that go to Anderston or Charring Cross train stations. Glasgow Central is also within walking distance (10-15mins) and gives you far more options. by shortymcsteve (Fri 8th Dec 2023 1:36am)
  • [Here](https://www.scotrail.co.uk/media/3642/download?inline) is a map of the train lines to help you understand things a little better. Glasgow Central and Queen Street station are the two major train stations, and both have low level platforms where the track continues and does not terminate at the station. You can see on the map if you look at Anderson that the train line goes on for quite a while in both directions. For example, you can ride the train all the way from Milngavie (North) to Larkhall (South East). Between these two stops are many towns and this line generally has a train every 15 minutes (depending on the route). by shortymcsteve (Fri 8th Dec 2023 2:39am)
