  • I moved to Glasgow about 5 years ago and found the chippies to be utter shite here. Unless you're willing to go to an upmarket sit-in (which in my view never tastes like a real chippy) or some gentrified west end joint then you're pretty limited when looking for a decent fish supper. I was brought up in Ayrshire, don't miss much about the various shiteholes, but after visiting Ayr, Irvine and Kilmarnock over the last year and getting a chippy in each, the much, MUCH higher quality of everything from the chips to the sausage to the fish was so apparent. My hack theory is high population density in the city and high footfall means chippies here can get away with being expensive, low quality shite. Which they definitely do get away with. tl:dr get down to Ayr for a day out and try any chippy there. by Cessdon (Thu 31st Jan 2019 12:40am)

  • Perhaps we could look at eradicating some of the endemic poverty in the city, or a modernised drug policy at least, to help improve these poor bastards lives? Junkies make the easiest targets to hate on, the easiest to dehumanise. It's really hard for some people to be compassionate towards a junkie, especially if you've never been that deep in the shit yourself. I suggest imagining you are in that scenario again and you notice the person shooting up is in fact a loved one you haven't seen in years. How would you react if that was your brother? Your son? Now realise he is someone's brother or son. A human being who is suffering immense pain and sadness, whose life is awful and filled with struggle. I'm not saying it isn't natural to be frustrated and annoyed, to judge harshly, but try standing back from that immediate emotional reaction and engage your empathy once in a while. Best of luck. by Cessdon (Fri 26th Jul 2019 1:02am)

  • Sounds like you've probably got some personal vendetta against this person and are embroiled in petty and ongoing internet arguments. Facile, boring shit that only a handful of people on Twitter think is really important. A whole bunch of self importance dressed as social justice. But hey, if internet drama is what gets you through the day, who am I to be so judgmental. by Cessdon (Mon 12th Aug 2019 1:33am)

  • I believe the guy is actually Scottish, just puts on the voice to cheer people up. He also always says hello to me when I'm getting off the train and going past his window (I am on the subway a lot). Always makes me smile and I notice that it makes most other people laugh or smile too. We need more guys like this. by Cessdon (Mon 2nd Sep 2019 7:10pm)
  • >Peter Capaldi Was coming here to post my sighting of Peter Capaldi in the Merchant City Tinderbox last year. I caught his eye as I was walking past and he immediately put up his hand to cover one side of his face. Felt genuinely bad for him living with that level of anxiety about members of the public hassling him. I just walked past and didn't say or do anything. I'm not the type to go up to celebrities or bother them, especially when in a coffee shop with one of their friends/partner. • Thank you all for the kind suggestions and help. Means a lot. I mentioned I didn't have any family or friends in the city, but I didn't say I have actually been living here for years. I have quite severe mental health problems and have difficulties maintaining relationships with people, so I have been on my own for quite some time now. In a perverse kind of way, I am weathering the social isolation pretty well as it is not a massive change for me, especially in regards to seeing people. I am normally a very socially isolated person. This is also part of why I can't ask any of my work colleagues or neighbours to help me, as it would be something I would not cope with well. Probably oversharing, but who cares ehh. Thanks again guys. I will update on how I get on in the next few days! by Cessdon (Mon 30th Mar 2020 12:25am)

  • Mentally ill person reporting in. Cannot get access to my GP to talk about medication, getting prescriptions is laborious and risky, cannot get access to my CPN (Community Psychiatric Nurse) had 1 phone call in 3 weeks, felt like the implication was I shouldn't phone or contact them unless it's an emergency. No family, no friends, no support whatsoever. Broken washing machine. I could go on. To top it all off I am pretty sure I broke my toe a few days ago and feel like I shouldn't bother anyone with that until it's turning septic and falling off. All around, good times. by Cessdon (Thu 9th Apr 2020 1:21am)
  • Hello there, I lived in the Netherlands for a couple of years but since moving back home to Glasgow I lost most of my speaking ability. I have been interested in learning Dutch properly for years now. I tried the Duolingo course to quite an advanced level, but when I went on holiday to Amsterdam last year, it turned out to be completely useless in trying to talk to people. I have also completed the basic Language4Water course at Glasgow Uni. Was fun, but also not very structured and I've basically forgotten everything I've learned. Basically, what I've learned is for myself, nothing beats speaking Dutch repeatedly and that self learning is not a good method for me. I would be VERY interested in joining you and others for a Live Language course in Glasgow. I don't know how to set up a Discord, but I will keep an eye on this post in case someone sets up some sort of group. Feel free to PM and I will give you my details also. Fijne dag! by Cessdon (Fri 17th Apr 2020 1:03pm)
  • Working today, west end heaving with people, seems like literally nothing unusual is happening. Saw a couple walking their dog who ran in to an old guy they obviously knew in some manner. Both immediately proceed to hugging the guy and have a chat barely 1-2 feet away from each other. Really quite amazing how unaffected some people seem. Was also in the city centre and southside where it was noticeably quieter. Maybe a coincidence, but this is the second week in a row I've seen similar disparities with the west end and rest of the city. Hard not to make some inferences, but what with the demographic of this sub, I better watch what I say... by Cessdon (Mon 20th Apr 2020 12:35am)

  • Honestly, I fucking hate this city sometimes. It's the dirtiest, most rubbish filled place I've every lived in in my entire life. There is a real culture of just not giving a fuck about other people or public spaces we all share. Dirty, clatty, selfish cunts everywhere. by Cessdon (Mon 22nd Jun 2020 5:18pm)
  • From some of your comments in this thread you come off as a moralising cunt with absolutely no sympathy or care for the least fortunate people in our society. It's fucking criminal and shameful the levels of poverty we have in this city. I'm not saying it's not frustrating, annoying, even scary when homeless people and addicts approach you or pester you. It is. But have a fucking compassionate, empathetic bone in your body and try to put yourself in their shoes, imagine how fucking awful their life is, what it must feel like to wake up as one of those guys and what they feel. Try to be a decent human being instead of yet another cunt who needs to look down on others to make himself feel better. by Cessdon (Mon 29th Jun 2020 12:13am)
  • I was in there today making my 23rd donation. The staff are absolute heroes in my opinion. Was also told about how busy they'd been, how they've noticed more and more people being on edge and unfortunately taking it out on them, how they've had the additional pressure of all the covid precautions, how they have been short staffed because the nurses need to go off sick at the smallest sign of illness. It's been a trying time for them, doing a vital and meaningful job under difficult conditions. I respect them all greatly, as well as anyone who has donated a single time or over 100 times (as one kind old lady was telling me about last year). I go out of my way to try and say something kind and express my gratitude every time I am in. They are always thanking me so it's the least I can do. I suffer quite severe mental health issues including anxiety. I get very anxious every time going in, especially when pricking the finger and inserting the needle. They always help me and support me and before long I feel at ease, having a great chat. Before you know it the donation is up. I don't bully or harass others to do it, but I gently recommend you do donate if you are able to. It takes very little time and it's a good thing to do. All blood types are always in demand. by Cessdon (Wed 8th Jul 2020 4:13pm)

  • Imagine we built quality, affordable housing for the poorest people in the city instead. "Why can't we do both?" I don't know. We don't. We just build more overpriced student accommodation, overpriced flats and ugly hotels. I guess fuck the poor people of Glasgow? by Cessdon (Thu 20th Aug 2020 9:20am)
  • Why aren't we regulating Airbnbs like plenty of other European cities manage to? Our housing market is appalling and I'm sick of waiting for the council or the government to do anything about it. They aren't doing anything and are as beholden to corporate interests as any Tory shire. No rent controls, no affordable housing, no regulating. I'm fucking sick of it. by Cessdon (Thu 20th Aug 2020 12:27pm)

And every once in a while I will. Our walls are paper thin so there's no hiding it. It brings me a weird level of comfort knowing I can let one out and not worry about the neighbours. Yeah. • Personal responsibility is important, but so is the council doing their duty. I pay a ridiculous and regressive amount of tax and I expect something in return. Stop blaming individuals alone. There are larger forces at work here and when the council don't do their societal duties and leave the place a broken shithole, it affects people's mentality about the city. It's a feedback loop of negativity. Moralising and finger wagging about bad parenting isn't going to fix the problem in any way, shape or form. It makes you feel better and superior to others, but it doesn't get litter picked up. I'm frustrated too. I was raised in a way that littering is unimaginable. I get angry when I see people littering. I get it. But I hate this trend, especially since the inception of austerity, that transfers responsibilities of the state on to individuals and then blames the individuals for society wide issues they cannot alone tackle. Everyone has a part to play here. Our council and institutions are atrocious. Labour/SNP it doesn't make any difference. These organisations need held to account and so do individuals. by Cessdon (Fri 26th Mar 2021 10:41am)

  • Thanks for your input, very interesting. I would just like to add that your income level will probably dictate how diverse the area is more than anything else. The wealthy who live in the West End (not students) are extremely white areas I've noticed. If you live in a lower income area (much of Southside, including where I live) it is extremely diverse. by Cessdon (Sat 3rd Apr 2021 4:07pm)
  • As a man I feel like I'm not allowed to discuss my experiences of sexual harassment, that they are invalid, or that it isn't as important or equal to harassment that women/trans people face. In fact I have been sexually assaulted twice in my teens and you're made to feel like society doesn't care. That sentiment is even more extreme today, which is a real shame. by Cessdon (Sat 3rd Apr 2021 4:13pm)
  • Oh so glad to hear the richest, most privileged part of the city is getting limited council resources directed towards it. I guess fuck the Southside and all the plebs. • Glasgow is full of bigots and cunts. There is also a pathological hatred for cyclists here (and across the UK) that is bizarre and cultural (never experienced anything like it in several other countries I've cycled in). Do any visible low paid job in public here and you will get people being a prick to you. Lot of angry, unhappy people here who take out their frustrations on what they perceive as the "lowest" in society, starting with homeless and working up through minimum wage workers. Also, if you're not white, is an added incentive for the above types to be a bit racist too. I think you hit the nail on the head with your bag comment. Reduce your visibility as a worker as much as possible. Keep dodging those pricks on the road and best of luck comrade. \-Fellow Abused Worker by Cessdon (Mon 12th Apr 2021 7:26pm)

  • Reminder of how pathetically cowed and unradical we are today. No more class solidarity today, hyper individualism, it's pathetic. These people would be ashamed of what Glasgow has become, not that any of you privileged West End hipsters and luvvies would give a shit as evidenced by the comments here "hurr durr, look at the funny hats, hurrrrr, look moustaches!" Jesus wept. by Cessdon (Sun 2nd May 2021 6:29am)
  • This isn't a funny meme any more. It's a fucking disgrace. I don't want to be a part of this shameful, grubby little city any longer. Brimming with corruption and sleaze, rich individuals and their corporations are burning the city to the ground with impunity and immunity from the law. Their greed is limitless, they care for nothing but making more and more money at any cost to the city, it's heritage, it's future or it's people. And they cannot act alone, they are being assisted by god knows how many councillors and council officials in the planning department, senior police too most likely as never is a single conviction laid at the door of those blatantly responsible. Vile, naked corruption no better than some tinpot African dictatorship. It's not good enough. It's utterly shameful. by Cessdon (Tue 4th May 2021 8:59am)
  • Maybe claim he's dropping his weights to an irregular beat and could therefore be considered music, avant-garde percussion etc.? But seriously, back on to the council mate. Also keep at trying a diplomatic approach, try to avoid escalating if you can. Another poster mentioned blaring music all day and yes that might work and he'll stop, or you could end up getting in to a feud with a psycho. We had a neighbour who literally set his flat on fire in a fit of drunken rage, it's no joke mate if he's a bit of a psycho. I also know you get barbell drop pads, looking online they seem dear though (£120 +) but I am sure there must be a cheaper alternative. Anything to reduce the noise for you. Maybe include this as a suggestion? Don't envy your position mate, just know it's better than being stuck in some hellhole hostel (been there myself) and that you'll manage no matter what. by Cessdon (Sun 9th May 2021 6:34pm)

  • I know, imagine moaning about tens of thousands of pished animals tearing their way through the city, trashing everything in their path, leaving tons of rubbish and smashed glass wherever they go, threatening and intimidating strangers, pishing on people's houses and anywhere else they like, fighting and leaving blood everywhere, being arrested for violence and property damage, chanting bigoted and sectarian songs. You're right, folk here will literally moan about anything. Especially cunts whose idea of celebrating is destroying the place in which they live. by Cessdon (Sat 15th May 2021 9:50pm)

You are choosing to be alone. I don't have that option. I'm literally completely alone with no family to go to, no friends offering a meal with them on Christmas. I hate this time of year, because everything reminds me of how alone I am. Regarding your question, tons of takeaways are open. • DELETED Thought the days of Scottish Cringe were long behind me, but every time I see this damn statue and cone now...*shudder* by Cessdon (Fri 24th Dec 2021 7:54pm)
  • DELETED Yeah I'm one of those assholes. The cone was only good when the council didn't want it up. It was good 15 years ago when I climbed up and put one there. It was good when it actually symbolised something. The moment the council stopped removing it, the whole save the cone campaign etc, it became meta. It became "cool". Nowadays it's been completely commodified, divorced from its original F U to authority, to the council and Wellington himself. A tourist attraction. A design to be sold on mugs, tea towels and facemaks. Co-opted by giant corporations piggy backing on a hollowed out brand of "rebellion". It's an embarrassing narrative that Glaswegians can tell about themselves. A corporatised, hollow narrative, i.e the perfect description of current cultural identity. I don't care how unpopular an opinion this is. It's amusing how attached people are to it though, or what the idea of it represents. by Cessdon (Fri 24th Dec 2021 9:41pm)
  • At the end of the day you are still exploiting someone else's hard work to pay off your mortgage. You are already rich. You can already afford to own multiple homes. Most renters cannot. In fact most people under 40 cannot. So, a poor person, who cannot afford to buy a home, will be using their limited income to pay YOUR mortgage. You are using your hoarded capital to subjugate someone who does not have capital. You might be a benevolent "lord" but a lord you'll still be. It's just my opinion, and no doubt not a popular one, but any form of landlord is completely unethical, immoral and just wrong. Also, the correct term is landnonce. by Cessdon (Mon 17th Jan 2022 7:47pm)
  • Dude, this sub is filled to the bring with young, middle class professionals. Of course there are some outliers, but the demographics lean \*heavily\* towards comfortable, well off liberals. Of course they are going to support the status quo and have absolutely zero class consciousness. They aren't even good at pretending to be socialists on Twitter, so of course they support the ideology of a rentier class dominating society (because they are part of, or will become, a member of this class). And they absolutely do not understand that wage labour is theft. by Cessdon (Mon 17th Jan 2022 7:53pm)

  • Hello, fellow depressive here (34M). Can't give you any advice on where to go but can say well done for going out and getting your hair cut. I know myself I put it off much longer than I should and don't like going to the hairdressers. I also know I'm lucky being a guy and being able to get a quick, simple cut without any of the lecturing bs you mentioned. Afterwards, I always feel so much better, even if it isn't the best cut or whatever. It makes you just look better, frames your face etc, and that's a win in my books. I know they always says there's lots of people like us out there suffering, bit you always feel alone in it. Just wanted to say you are not alone. There are those who can understand what you've been experiencing. Best of luck OP on your cut. by Cessdon (Thu 27th Jan 2022 11:08pm)
  • Every single job I've ever had in Scotland has had incompetent and bullying management. It's deeply ingrained in to the culture here. The only job I was ever treated like a human being was in a foreign country, the Netherlands, where workers rights/pay etc. is considerably better. by Cessdon (Tue 1st Feb 2022 5:52pm)
  • With who? GMB? They're fucking useless and a complete waste of dues. There are no trade unions that will actually support and help minimum wage workers. Ones like the IWW talk a good game but are tiny, ineffective and ignored. Seriously, what should a part time cleaner on minimum wage who is getting treated like shit and shafted with unpaid holidays etc actually do? by Cessdon (Tue 1st Feb 2022 5:59pm)
  • SNP good is as logically shit as SNP bad. The inability of liberals in this country to criticise their own government is frightening. The SNP have failed on several fronts. They aren't a good government, they're marginally better than the Tories and that is a low, low bar to meet. I say this as someone who has voted for them for 10 years. I keep voting for them hoping to get independence. And I must say they won't get any more votes from me. I don't believe them any more. They aren't good enough. It's too easy to say "but austerity and Brexit". It's too easy to say "who else will deliver independence". They still have a massive budget, they have still mismanaged it. They are still a neoliberal, pro giant corporations party. They are not left wing in any way, shape or form. And I am fucking sick of them. The extreme partisanship and blind loyalty of supporters online genuinely frightens me. They frighten me almost as much as a Tory die hard or some frothing at the mouth Unionist. Because it's the same forces at play inside their heads. The same inability to rationally analyse what is actually happening. The same inability to criticise "their team". Just mindless tribalism of the worst order. Sorry, needed a wee rant there. by Cessdon (Thu 17th Feb 2022 10:07am)
  • Every Glaswegian that ever frequented that KFC knows who you are talking about. His absence has also been noted, not seen him in ages. His attitude was infectious. He made the best of the job he had. And you could see it in the staff and the overall atmosphere. • Hey man. Long time sufferer of depression and anxiety here. I know exactly how you're feeling right now. I know all about that loneliness and the sense of loss you feel not having people in your life. You may already know but being so down can make it hard to build relationships with others. Also a personality disorder can make it extra difficult or full of extreme emotions when it comes to relationships. In my opinion, what you need to practice is relaxing. The more you can relax, be light, have fun with others, the more easier it will be to make friends and build healthier relationships. Always try to make your feelings less intense if they are starting to bother you or become unhelpful. When you are really down, ride it out, but don't hold on to it. It's about recognising when you aren't quite feeling right. Trying to remain calm, ride out the storm, not holding on to bad feelings. Let them come and go. You know there is still that happy, loving person inside you. You know it's still there. They might be buried under a lot of unhappiness at times but that person will never leave you. You know them, the one that laughs at a hilarious joke, that gets so much joy out of their favourite film or pc game. Who has hobbies, passions, interests. Who still has love in his heart for other people. Don't fucking dare give up on that person. Bring him out at every opportunity. Remember that's who you really are, a lovely, kind and interesting person who has a lot to give. Then keep trying hard to be that person, to get back to them. That's what I do my friend. I keep trying to be that person inside me. I try to not let the depression and the extreme thinking and emotions define who I am. They will come and go, but what's underneath is what counts. Some days I just feel so sad, so low and nothing seems to matter. But even then I can still find a little nugget of my true self. Watching Father Ted for the 500th time, seeing a silly cat video on Reddit. A little light of joy in the dark. You will make it. You will have a better life than you do today. You won't feel like this forever. In the meantime, try to add some socialising in your life. I wasn't working for years and eventually got a part time job. Did that for a few years, now I'm at college and working. I still have a hard time building relationships but I have many people in my life now. I still have terrible days, but I can survive them. You can too. Plan what you want, go slowly, don't give up on yourself. A lot of easy things to say, but hard to do. A lot of challenges you will go through alone. But in what you're feeling right now? Not alone. Their are probably millions of us across the world feeling exactly the same. I understand you, I get you. And I wish you the very, very best in making it through this tough time and in coming out the other end. In working towards having a "good" life, whatever that may mean to you. You are welcome to message me privately if you want. You are welcome to ignore this whole post, I don't claim to have any special knowledge or expertise. I just truly hope you will be well again as soon as can be. by Cessdon (Thu 21st Apr 2022 9:26pm)

  • They had a chance to show they were better than the Rangers fans. That they weren't reprehensible, antisocial animals too. And they failed miserably. Well done on erasing even the minute sympathy inhabitants of the city had towards your fans in comparison to Rangers. Just proved you are exactly, 100% identical to them in every way. by Cessdon (Sun 15th May 2022 2:22pm)
  • Lived there for 8 years now. Apart from the annoyance of fans on match days (you get adept quickly at avoiding them/traveling and shopping during game times etc) it's a decent place to live. One of the last places in the city which is so close to the centre/subway/restaurants/shops and still has cheap (ish) rent. Though for sure times are a changing. The gentrification has already begun slowly but surely. Rent is increasing quickly. If you have a chance get in now before you're priced out. And don't worry about ned football fans, just stay out of their way on match days if you can. by Cessdon (Tue 17th May 2022 2:50pm)
  • And another 5 years of doing literally fuck all. by Cessdon (Tue 17th May 2022 4:31pm)
  • Greens are some of the most subservient, spinless characters I have ever seen when they get bed with the SNP. Local to national level, they drop every key policy to get some committee chair or ministerial position. They then proceed to rubber stamp every neoliberal garbage policy the SNP puts forward, abandoning any moral stances they had for a taste of some crumbs. Watching Greens voting through cuts to environmental budgets, selling off windfarms to mega corps, it's shameful. Rent controls, free public transport, watch it all melt away as the buffets and posh lunches begin. They'll no doubt wrangle some utterly defanged, pitiful concessions they will shout about to keep the base happy. This Green/SNP voter has had enough of the lot of them to be honest. Labour/Libdem being marginally worse is not good enough any more. Never been closer to giving up voting altogether all the good it does. by Cessdon (Tue 17th May 2022 4:38pm)
  • Tell me more about the "massive massive difference in outcomes" since SNP/Greens took over from Labour 5 years ago? by Cessdon (Wed 18th May 2022 12:34pm)
  • My landlord is increasing my rent so I need to move. Realistically all I can afford is a flat share now. Frighteningly, there is massive competition for flat shares just the same as flats. Lists and lists of people offering £500-600/month *for a room*. I can't afford that in total rent, how the hell am I supposed to find a room that's not in the back of beyond or that's an utter shithole. Really scary being a mature student with minimum wage PT job. It's like society it telling me I don't deserve a home, I deserve to be homeless or to give up on my dreams of getting a degree (and a well paying job). Could cry thinking about it honestly. by Cessdon (Sat 28th May 2022 7:13pm)
  • I was actually in a focus group for rent controls in Scotland some years ago. So I have been keeping pretty up to date with it. The measures are pretty mealy mouthed and overly complex. They really won't help someone in my situation. by Cessdon (Sat 28th May 2022 8:31pm)
  • Yeah, you live in a rich, gilded bubble and are oblivious of the reality of how most people live in the city. Typical out of touch posho. by Cessdon (Sun 29th May 2022 8:44am)
  • DELETED No, definitely not treated the same. I wouldn't dream of telling a drunk guy "leave me alone". That would be an extremely dangerous thing to say that would invite a conflict and potential violence. Like most guys I have a very sensitive "mental" meter to judge the potential dangerousness of another guy. Drunk guys can be particularly unpredictable and can go from nice to nasty in a blink of an eye. Having been the subject of random physical violence from strangers a few times in my life (most of them drunk or out at night) my primary concern is avoiding getting punched in the face or worse knifed. You won't like this next part, I'll get downvotes for it. But most men don't have the privilege of acting like you do in that situation. No one will help you, ever. I'm not diminishing what women go through with drunks or inappropriate guys or the sexual violence they can face. What I am saying is they never need to worry like a man does about random violence in the same way. They will never be an acceptable target in public like a man is. They will rarely experience random punches to the face or the extreme danger of a random encounter with an aggressive drunk. I just wish people realised how frightening and lonely it can be being a guy when society will look the other way while a stranger assaults you. How the vast majority of men wouldn't dream of saying "leave me alone" unless they were completely confident they could win a physical altercation with someone, someone who might be carrying a knife or just be generally crazy and will follow you or anything. by Cessdon (Tue 7th Jun 2022 9:02am)

  • My best friend was arrested and charged and used the on call duty solicitor. This was in Glasgow. The woman was about 1 year out of university and when he'd visit her office there was always a pile of cases about 2 foot high on her desk of which his was often buried underneath. She told him he was going to get a custodial sentence of 1-3 years, 1 year if lucky. She then completely missed that the key piece of evidence in his case (a forensic report) had been in her office for over a week, all the while he was having a mental health breakdown waiting for this report. It was only by pure chance that one of her colleagues overhead him asking about the report and dug it out. She was completely off the ball and obviously overworked. He then changed his solicitor to one recommend to him. Suffice to say he got the guy community service and a supervision order as well as dropping one charge and amending another to a lower severity. Had he listened to the one originally provided him he would have been going in *aiming* for a low custodial sentence. He told me from the get go it was obvious she didn't like him nor believe him about what had happened. That she made one or 2 very off colour comments about his morality in regards to the offenses. Some rich middle class solicitors on this page might not believe such a thing happens. Utter bullshit. The poor, the low class, those from schemes, those with no money to afford their services must rely on incredibly overworked, sometimes inexperienced junior solicitors whose ability to earn money for their firm is reliant on the production line of poor people/menial offenses who rely on free representation. by Cessdon (Wed 29th Jun 2022 5:57pm)

  • Yeah, imagine guys sexualising women with literally their arse and breasts out on display. Those disgusting men, how dare they look at a women's naked body and feel any sort of sexual feeling, it's completely unnatural. Women only dress like that to "give them confidence" and to make them "feel good". Riiiiight. by Cessdon (Mon 4th Jul 2022 10:22pm)
  • I'm going to be an absolute misery guts, old cunt and whiner here. But I fucking hate these gigs and I hate the people that go to them. I get it, people want to "have a good time" but why does having a good time mean extreme alcohol consumption and anti social behaviour. I honestly think it's a symptom of a toxic and deep malaise deep within the cultural consciousness. Why does everyone need to get so fucking wasted to "have a good time". It's not normal or healthy that 15 and 16 year olds are roaming the streets pished out of their minds while sporting what can only be called underwear. Yeah I'm old, I'm a miserable cunt too as mentioned. But I cannot stand these people and the trail of destruction behind them. The aggressive, ape like shouting and bawling. The fucking mess they leave everywhere. I hate them and everything they stand for. As I hate much of our culture and people. Having to work in the midst of these pricks really brings out the worse, most judgemental part of me. I just want it to stop, I want them to go away. I want them to stop drinking to get black out drunk. I want them to stop stuffing cheap gear up their nose all night. by Cessdon (Fri 8th Jul 2022 6:01pm)
  • I've lived in Glasgow for 10 years now. It was already struggling when I got here but I've seen it severely decline since. Something is very, deeply wrong here. There is a profound malaise underpinning the lives of many people in this city. Not the privileged ones in the West End, but the majority poor. It feels like the fabric of society is breaking apart. It feels edgier and more dangerous. There is a sense of a rotting city. Not only physically but socially. The filthy, disgusting streets a symbol for something filthy and disgusting lurking under the consciousness of the inhabitants. Having lived in many Western European cities, this is by far the most depressing and bleak one. It reminds of decayed and sad ex-Soviet industrial cities of Eastern Europe. The grandeur of better times left to taunt its people as the very structures of buildings and society crumble around them. After I finish my education here I taking a one way ticket out of here to somewhere better. I don't need the Glasgow Effect knocking 10 years off my life expectancy. by Cessdon (Sun 7th Aug 2022 10:39am)
  • What a dogshit take. Gentrification pushes out poor people who can't afford the increased rents that come. Glasgow is full of poor people. You see the problem? Probably not as you're most likely a pretentious rich cunt. by Cessdon (Sun 7th Aug 2022 10:52am)
  • I don't know I see construction of new homes all over the city. The problem seems to be they are all £200k + or student accommodation. There is no incentive (profit) to build affordable housing. Neoliberal late stage capitalism is the real problem imo. by Cessdon (Sun 7th Aug 2022 11:34am)
  • Yes I want poor people to stay poor and I want places to stay run down and deprived. Oh wait, I never actually said a single thing like that. Keep your bullshit strawmen to yourself. I'm saying it's not a black and white issue. That there are (well documented) issues with gentrification. If you don't know what they are, perhaps try googling "pros and cons to gentrification" and learn something in the process. There is endemic poverty in Glasgow and forcing poor people to the periphery does not solve any of the underlying issues at play. Regardless of how much you love your new vegan underwear boutique. I also don't give a shit about downvotes or the brain-dead hivemind behind them. by Cessdon (Sun 7th Aug 2022 11:31am)

  • I shouldn't need to tell my councillor that there's fly tipping in my street. That there's potholes in the road. That the street lamps are broken. I shouldn't need to tell them food banks are a bad thing. Or that public transport is horrendous and extortionate. Or that homeless people need homes. I could go on. The point I'm making is that it's obvious what the problems are. It's their job to do something about it. I shouldn't need to explain that to my councillor (who I didn't vote for). by Cessdon (Wed 17th Aug 2022 6:23pm)

  • Delusional. Have you ever worked during a busy Rangers game? In close proximity to the fans? Some of the most antisocial, vile creatures you are likely to meet. Drunk, full of gear, being aggressive and confrontational. Being sectarian. Dropping vast amounts of drink cans and bottles that are half full, dropping half eaten takeaway food all over, trashing the place, spitting, vomiting, pishing everywhere. That might be your idea of a good time, but not any civilised, decent person. by Cessdon (Wed 17th Aug 2022 6:32pm)
  • I literally heard the 2 poshest sounding English girls in my life outside Cessnock subway the other day unironically talking about how incredible the banter was at a party they had been to. • I make the same as you and cannot afford all my rent and bills any more (I live alone in a very cheap studio flat). I am already building up debt and using high interest credit cards to try and keep afloat. The next raise in energy prices will probably sink me, the one after that for sure. All my bills are increasing. A month ago my landlord told me he is going to put the rent up. I've been looking in to flat shares but they are often even more expensive than my current rent and bills. I don't know what to do. I could honestly end up homeless, if not freezing and starving this winter. by Cessdon (Thu 18th Aug 2022 9:55pm)
  • It's the state of the drivers I am more concerned about while cycling. The incensed rage and hatred of cyclists here is truly frightening at times. I've had drivers deliberately clip me with their cars for example (twice, police involved both times, they both got away with it), been spat on out a window, had rubbish thrown at me out a window, swore at and had abuse shouted at me. Drivers here are fucking insane and angry. Add in the fact that there are many terrible drivers and ones completely unaware of you when cycling (nearly been hit accidently, especially by wing mirrors, so many times it's not even funny) and it's a wonder anyone bothers. I like cycling when it's quiet. I have no qualms about hitting the pavement if need be, especially when I don't feel safe on the road. by Cessdon (Sun 21st Aug 2022 11:07pm)

You won't find a job or if you're very lucky and do you won't keep it. You've a lot to learn about life and you are in for a nasty shock when you leave mummy and daddy and enter the real world. Or maybe you'll just leech off of them forever? by Cessdon (Fri 7th Oct 2022 12:35am)
  • OP has a stinking attitude as you can see from their replies and the edit in the original post. This gem stood out in particular: "not everyone is poor chick. you get a job to survive, i want a job because i need a new moncleezy that’s the difference" With that winning personality I am sure they will do very well in the world of volunteering or work. by Cessdon (Fri 7th Oct 2022 12:40am)
  • Student and working part time on £10/hour and I am dirt poor. It sucks horribly. by Cessdon (Mon 10th Oct 2022 11:41pm)
  • I'm stuck in a horrible studio flat with mould and a broken washing machine, fridge ready to go and a toilet that runs. It's freezing during winter and is damp all the time. The landlord won't do a thing but threaten to increase my rent if I contact him. I am on a near minimum wage job and go to college full time. My income is low. My flat is making me mentally ill it's so horrible and I am sure my physical health is suffering due to the mould and damp. So I am constantly looking for affordable flats in the city. Which are obviously rarer than hen's teeth. So I can't afford anywhere (including the area I currently live in). Looking in to flat sharing in my mid 30s is not something I am happy about but I am becoming desperate. Turns out the room renting market is just as out of control and filled with greedy landlords as the rest of the market. The number of people wanting £700-1000 a month for a room is ridiculous. It's just pure greed. And in areas where the rent for an entire property isn't even that high. I have countless examples like the above which I see on a regular basis while flat hunting. I sometimes get the feeling they just want poor people to die. I can *barely* afford to get by just now. How I am going to get out of this horrible place I currently live in I do not know especially when I have this shit above to contend with. Just needed to get this rant off my chest. by Cessdon (Sat 29th Oct 2022 4:56pm)
  • DELETED Yes it's my fault the council are incompetent. It's my fault there has been broken street lamps on my street for 5+ years. It's my fault half my neighbours have complained but nothing has been done. It's my fault the potholes that have been there for 8+ years and reported multiple times haven't been fixed. It's my fault for living in a run down shithole that looks like a slum in a developing country. It's my fault for being too poor and not living in a lovely West end street that gets looked after properly. It's my fault the council have millions for vanity projects and bungs to corporations but not a penny to keep my street clean. What exactly I pay my council tax for I'm not quite sure. Maybe you could offer a helpful suggestion to that riddle too? by Cessdon (Thu 1st Dec 2022 8:48pm)

  • No one else made this point and I'm positive it won't be popular. But I don't want more drunks roaming about the city than there already are. I work in public places in the city in the evenings/night time. And there is nothing that will eviscerate your belief in mankind more than having to deal with vile drunks all night long. Violent, aggressive, rude, nasty, annoying, disgusting. These are a few of the descriptors that come to mind when I think of the people I have to deal with regularly. The best behaved drunks are still not people I'd chose to deal with if I didn't have to. The worst will literally ruin your day. Never mind the rubbish they leave strewn everywhere, what about vomit, feces, piss and spit? I guess this is more of a general rant against excessive drinking culture and the inhabitants who partake. I just dread the thought of more of them out and about for longer than they already are. by Cessdon (Fri 30th Dec 2022 11:17pm)
  • £65 is the best part of a whole days wages for a minimum wage worker. I don't know what planet you're living on (well, a comfortably middle class one I guess) but suggesting this to someone who is struggling financially is borderline insensitive. As a low paid worker and student (in my 30s), I'm quite fed up listening to well meaning, well off people and how comically out of touch they are. Like they have any idea what it's like to struggle in 2023. by Cessdon (Tue 3rd Jan 2023 6:24pm)
  • Glasgow Uni is between £20k to £50k a year for international students. That's a minimum of £80k for a 4 year degree. That's *not* including living expenses. Just the degree. Student flats plus living expenses? £12k absolute minimum per year, most probably double that or more. If your parents have at least £130k lying around in savings (and that's bare, bare minimum, probably considerably more) then you are rich. Don't try and paint a picture of some factory worker or farmer in China spending their life savings on a better life for their child with a degree in Scotland. It's for the rich. No one else. by Cessdon (Tue 24th Jan 2023 11:51am)
  • Every single time I'm walking on busy streets I have this problem. Considerate people who think of others seem to be in dramatically short supply. I can't tell which percentage are just selfish, ignorant or oblivious. But it pisses me off regularly. You get people who walk directly at you, regardless of which way you're walking. And god forbid you say something, even something as benign as "excuse me" when someone is about to force you to walk off the pavement and in to traffic due to their refusal to walk 1 foot to the left. I've had some shockingly angry responses from people from literally saying "excuse me". It generally feeds in to the idea that I have that the vast, vast majority of people are just horrible, selfish cunts. A tad pessimistic though I'll admit haha. by Cessdon (Wed 25th Jan 2023 7:01pm)
  • This sub is stuffed to the brim with poshos and West End wanks. Here we have a posh Shawlands wank, a niche version. For them, paying for some African or Eastern European peasant to clean their shitter is perfectly normal. They are above doing such work themselves and they are rich enough to pay for it. At a time of massive poverty, increasing foodbank usage etc., just think of the types of people who can afford to pay others to do something they could easily do themselves. Expect a good few enraged middle class wanks to downvote this, go ahead. by Cessdon (Thu 26th Jan 2023 1:04pm)
  • This is so true. I used to be an avid bargain hunter in the charity shops, but it's becoming so difficult to find anything now. Too many of what I call "posh" charity shops which have a lot of high price/designer items in them. I was in the Cancer Research shop on Queen Street recently and was shocked by how expensive everything was. A load of £25 t-shirts etc. Also the men's section just shrinks more and more every year. When it's cheaper to go across the road to Primark than buy from (and support) a charity shop then there is a problem! by Cessdon (Thu 26th Jan 2023 1:19pm)
  • Deep, entrenched cronyism and borderline corruption in the city council. City ran for the benefit of global corporations and wealthy, not its regular inhabitants. Absolute paralysis surrounding any sort of works that would benefit the masses. Endless portions of civic life outsourced to some of the most evil corporations in the world. Councillors and civil servants all tied up with arms length public companies. Opaque relationships with construction companies like Graham's which magically win every tender. Beautiful, historic and rich heritage buildings burned to the ground with impunity to be replaced by student flats and hotels. A police force filled with bigots and racists and Orangemen. An NHS trust crumbling at the seams. I could literally go on all night. This city is a disgrace that has only been getting consistently worse year by year. If you think it will improve anything, or do anything to benefit it's lowest life expectancy in Western Europe, Glasgow effect suffering, drug death capital, extreme wealth inequality inhabitants then you are absolutely delusional. by Cessdon (Mon 30th Jan 2023 7:12pm)
  • Yeah, I'm sure if they are posh hipster wanks then they genuinely believe they are doing it out of the goodness of their heart, that it's pure altruism really, how they truly care about them, they're like family etc. Definitely not exploiting impoverished immigrants. Definitely "helping" them make a couple of quick quid for what you call "easy work" which I never said. I said some posho twat could easily do their own cleaning. I have nothing but admiration for the incredibly hard working cleaners I know. They deserve better than your crumbs. by Cessdon (Tue 31st Jan 2023 1:27am)

  • Someone always comes along to say something like this whenever anyone complains about the dogshit council we have running this city. I don't know where these magical pot holes, street lamps and bins are being fixed by reporting things to the council but not a single issue I've *ever* reported has been fixed. Not one. Probably because I live in a shithole that no one cares about. Or certainly the council care a lot less about than the rarefied air of the West End. by Cessdon (Tue 28th Feb 2023 12:39am)
  • Plenty of intelligent, educated people are complete cunts and plenty of uneducated and not particularly bright people are wonderful souls, so I don't buy this point at all. "Great unwashed", lol fuck off. In fact this sounds like some smarmy, middle class, West End cunt with their nose firmly up their own arse who thinks anyone without a English Lit degree from Glasgow Uni is a disgusting pleb. Your one of the people OP is talking about. by Cessdon (Wed 8th Mar 2023 1:53am)
  • Misread that as "Brown with that sort of thing!" by Cessdon (Sun 2nd Apr 2023 1:19am)
  • This sub leans very heavily towards the highly educated, middle class demographic. I often find these are some of the most out of touch people you could possibly imagine to meet in regards to their own personal wealth and privilege. They say they are skint when what they mean is they don't have the same disposable income as a multimillionaire. Delusional and out of touch with the reality that the masses of working people face in the city. by Cessdon (Tue 18th Apr 2023 6:12pm)
  • Considering the downvotes I guess other Glasgwegians don't believe in the right to protest. Or rather they do believe in the right to protest, but only if it's someone they agree with. I think these protesters are despicable. I strongly disagree with their views. But I'll defend their right to protest and am not comfortable with the idea of quashing people's right to protest just because I find them offensive. I also don't believe it's a fallacy to warn of a slippery slope because already the government are trying to stifle protests more generally (and union activity/strikes). Ban this one group today, suddenly they're banning others that you do agree with. by Cessdon (Sat 22nd Apr 2023 10:29pm)

  • Societal norms and sense of community cohesion have been slowly collapsing for years. Atomisation, hyper-individualisiation. Most people don't care about their community or other people in general any more. When you don't feel part of a community, when you don't care about others and strangers, when you feel like no one cares about you either, you get this. And a whole host of other antisocial behaviour. Just my 2 bit shitey analysis. It's easy to just go "they're bad people" and leave it there, but much harder to dig in to the source of the problem. by Cessdon (Sat 3rd Jun 2023 2:02pm)
  • Yet the police are happy to turn a blind eye on match days when 1000s are openly drinking in public and being antisocial to boot. Because the police are feart of the crowd and so allow this behaviour. Great living in a society where someone quietly enjoying a beer in a park without bothering anyone is criminalised, but absolutely drunken, aggressive, antisocial cunts are allowed to do what they want because they are in a crowd/football fans. Police full of Orangemen/huns too which I'm sure contributes. by Cessdon (Tue 13th Jun 2023 8:31pm)
  • So you're against freedom of expression if you don't like what the people are expressing? Who gets to decide what is and isn't allowed? You? I hate these cunts as much as the next person here, but I will defend their right to do it. by Cessdon (Wed 14th Jun 2023 5:13pm)

  • Lol, so many rich fucks in this sub. I knew the demographics skewed towards middle class and educated, but not by this much. No wonder there are so many landlords too whenever those threads pop up. Also no wonder so few give a shit about the poor of the city or even remotely understand what the majority of working people are struggling with. Majority here are doing very nicely out of the system thank you very much. by Cessdon (Wed 26th Jul 2023 10:23am)
  • Yeah, no poor people work hard. They're all just lazy and stupid. We live in a true meritocracy. The system works (for you). Delusional. by Cessdon (Wed 26th Jul 2023 12:27pm)
  • What a tragic worldview you have. Feel so sorry for you. I hope you learn how wonderful it can be to care for someone other than yourself one day. by Cessdon (Wed 26th Jul 2023 1:13pm)
  • I agree with everything you've said. My issue are the attitudes of these "successful" people towards the poor. The narrative about how hard working they are etc. is always implicitly saying if only the poor worked as hard as me, were as smart as me, then they'd be just as successful as me. It's all bullshit coping mechanisms to enlarge their egos and sense of self importance. It's all about reinforcing the same old lies that have justified inequality for the entirety of human history. It's all about reinforcing a strict hierarchy in their minds where they place themselves above others. Some of the laziest, thickest cunts I know work in the tech sector. There is no meritocracy and few escape poverty to transcend their birth class. Even worse are the ones who did it 15-20+ years ago and think the same opportunities exist today. It's ignorance and cunts I'm against. I can forgive a poor, uneducated cunt because they don't know any better. But I'll never forgive some middle-class cunt with a second home wagging his finger at me or anyone else who is struggling. by Cessdon (Wed 26th Jul 2023 2:01pm)

  • Hello fellow ex-self harmer. Fuck that person. You are more than their tiny, ignorant mind. Don't you dare cover up or feel ashamed because of them. When I see your scars I know you're a survivor, like me. All I know is you've been through the wringer and came out the other side. And that makes you kind of amazing. Not everyone can "wear them with pride" and I get that. But I really hope you can get to a place where you don't "wear them with shame" any more. For me it was about changing how I viewed them, seeing them as proof of survival. But it did take time. I am also big in to Stoic philosophy. Part of which is not allowing others to disturb you or become the master of your emotions. Again, not easy/overnight, and I'd still get a negative emotional response from this women too, but I'd immediately be able to take back control of myself and not allow her to hurt me beyond that instant sting of emotion. Just some thoughts. My love and support goes out to you though stranger, please don't cover yourself because of this bad interaction. Take care. by Cessdon (Mon 14th Aug 2023 11:54am)

Intensions are important here though and this was an accident. • I'll ask you this question: what are you thinking when you look at someone on the street? What's the longest you've thought about a person you saw on the street? Can you remember all the faces you saw 9 days ago in town? Do you see the point I'm getting at here? We all look at others. Sometimes we notice them because of their appearance or something they're doing. Sometimes it's just a random person who you happen to see. A moment of eye contact that lasts less than a second. But then you move on. It's forgotten. You cannot remember the people you saw 9 days ago because it doesn't mean anything, it's not important. Please trust me. You are just as unimportant in these people's lives. You're nothing more than a momentary glance that they forget about almost instantly. You are not special. You're just another stranger on the street. This may sound harsh, but it's not intended to be. I suffered terrible social anxiety for a long, long time. I know what it feels like when it seems like everyone is staring at you. I still fight those feelings at times when I'm stressed/anxious or dealing with depression. I really get it. Understanding the above, that I'm not special or the "main character" in these people's lives, that the worry and concerns are only in my head alone. That I'm just as anonymous and meaningless as all the faces I see every day on the subway or walking down Buchanan Street. That the reason I might look at someone is for all sorts of reasons...they have cool trainers, they have a pretty face, or for no reason at all, I was just looking in their direction at the time. I've not explained this very well. But I guess I wanted to let you know that you can overcome these feelings. That it doesn't always need to be this way. I made massive improvements in my social anxiety. It's not went away, but it's so manageable now that unlike before, where I felt like you nearly every time I left the house/was in a crowd, now I rarely feel that way, and know how to cope with it when it comes along. Recognising it is happening is the first step. Wish the best for you. Take care. by Cessdon (Fri 13th Oct 2023 2:55pm)
  • DELETED So it's ok to kill innocent civilians then? Fuck off you disgusting ghoul. by Cessdon (Sat 14th Oct 2023 9:27pm)
  • REMOVED Palestinian toddlers paraglided in did they? Again fuck off. Stop excusing a genocide. I hope bombs drop on your house one day and blow your family members in to paste and some cunt on the internet goes (yesh, but akshualy Scotland just killed a load of people so akshualy it's completely justified). Honestly frightening how the view that we shouldn't collectively punish and kill innocent civilians is somehow a fringe concept. by Cessdon (Sat 14th Oct 2023 9:36pm)
  • DELETED I was clearly making a provocative point using their own rhetoric against them. It *would* be disgusting to wish such a thing on someone. So why is it ok for people to be totally cool with the same happening to Palestinians? Good of you to defend some cunt on Reddit though and not the victims of a genocide. by Cessdon (Sat 14th Oct 2023 11:29pm)
  • I was trying to make it offensive. Shocking, visceral, real. Trying to appeal to someone's emotions they have for their own family. Because that's what's actually happening. Real people's families are being blow apart by massive bombs falling in their living rooms. Not some abstract idea. Not some line you read on an online article. Not some video on the news shot from a mile away showing a big explosion. No, an actual real, devastating, earth shattering bomb going off on your head, in your own living room. Where your niece gets blown to pieces in front of you. Where your family is torn apart literally and metaphorically. That's a fucking real, harrowing and horrifying experience that many are facing right now. It's not some stupid game of my side Vs your side, it's not about left or rightwing politics. It's about real people getting killed. And that brutal truth and reality of what that's like needs to be exposed and pushed on people. This is a crime against humanity and it needs to be stopped urgently. So sorry if I lost the moral high ground. I honestly could not care less. My moral high or low ground has no bearing on the reality and facts of the situation. It doesn't negate what I said in any way. I'll gladly say other horrible, moral-high-ground-losing things if it gets someone to just think for a second, to consider a different view, to be shocked in to considering how they would feel if it happened to them. Then again maybe I'm on to a losing battle trying to force people to develop a modicum of empathy. by Cessdon (Sat 14th Oct 2023 11:44pm)
