  • Is this not a thing they do everywhere?- there's definitely a facebook group about it happening in Arran. I'm not sure she invented it. by rmc1211 (Thu 21st Mar 2019 3:38pm)
  • I have boycotted that "Gie It Laldy" shop because they have a sign claiming that they are "Patter Merchants". by rmc1211 (Fri 5th Apr 2019 12:28pm)
  • Yup - that's it. I would go in but I'm scared they'll be too gallus for me. The barbers was shut for ages - it had a sign on the door saying something like "Bill payer no longer here". by rmc1211 (Fri 5th Apr 2019 12:58pm)
  • Yeah. But I think they'd mention the clockwork orange and say "scunnered". by rmc1211 (Fri 5th Apr 2019 2:50pm)

  • Yeah - I've even seen deer just off Dumbarton Road in Partick once or twice. I'm fairly sure they wander around in the evening. There's a fair chance yours lives in the park. by rmc1211 (Tue 7th May 2019 11:49am)

  • I wouldn't be encouraging people to drive - think of the carbon footprint. by rmc1211 (Sat 25th May 2019 12:20pm)
  • You're still wrong - sorry. The energy required to pedal has to come from food. Food makes carbon. Basically, unless a bird lays an egg in your house then you shouldn't have them. Also you should be vegan now. by rmc1211 (Sat 25th May 2019 12:25pm)
  • Call me a cynic, but I've always thought that was their way of testing if they could rip you off. I always pick a random route so they know that I know the city. by rmc1211 (Tue 28th May 2019 5:13pm)
  • Where are you based? There's pretty good butchers all over the city. by rmc1211 (Wed 29th May 2019 3:42pm)
  • You know those aren't real animals? He's just a con-man. by rmc1211 (Sun 2nd Jun 2019 10:39am)
  • There's already one in my building. Any problems with council permission can be dealt with by using arson anyway :) by rmc1211 (Sun 2nd Jun 2019 11:05am)
  • Does he let them out in Glasgow? I'm just wondering how busy these properties are here? As someone says above - there's loads of them listed. For it to be worthwhile I'd need to have it occupied probably 75-100 days a year or so. by rmc1211 (Sun 2nd Jun 2019 11:44am)
  • What would you do in my situation? I have never had any problems living around the other airbnb in my building. Maybe you have had a different experience. I am just trying to ensure that during what might be a short stay abroad I can afford to live and pay my mortgage. If my move becomes permanent I fully intend to sell the flat. by rmc1211 (Sun 2nd Jun 2019 3:59pm)
  • They are cunts. "Equity for punks"! by rmc1211 (Sat 8th Jun 2019 10:48am)

  • They may be registered in England but they are part of IOMART who are based at the science park - just announced good financial figures again yesterday. by rmc1211 (Thu 13th Jun 2019 1:44pm)
  • Yeah - just up at the roundabout. by rmc1211 (Fri 14th Jun 2019 10:19am)
  • Yeah - that's what I thought, but it's not cheap to go on and they are trying to source over £2,000,000. I'd have thought that over the past 40 years there must have been more than enough profit to cover upkeep. Maybe I don't have a good grasp of the economics of ships, but their two busy bars can make plenty of profit in a day. That's a lot of crowdfunding! by rmc1211 (Mon 17th Jun 2019 12:13pm)
  • Wow - so is it in any way practical to keep it as a going concern? by rmc1211 (Mon 17th Jun 2019 3:03pm)
  • Their website (which I should probably have investigated before I posted tbh) says "The operation generates over £5.5m for the U.K. economy in jobs and vital tourist expenditure.". Obviously that figure could be made up of all sorts of things (the sandwiches the crew buy from the local shop for lunch for example). I don't know why I care about this really - probably I'll stick a couple of quid in a collection box or whatever. by rmc1211 (Mon 17th Jun 2019 3:19pm)
  • It clearly represents the disposable nature of the material goods that we aspire to have in modern society. Can you not see that? by rmc1211 (Tue 18th Jun 2019 9:12am)
  • I would describe £36 as not cheap. I can get to Arran for about £20 return including the train and ferry - but I agree it's not ridiculously expensive. I just meant that if it is being run as a non-profit I'd expect it to be cheap. Someone earlier had a good idea of fuel costs etc though which probably explains that. They sell a 40 ticket book for approx £2000 so must be around £50-60 a time now. by rmc1211 (Tue 18th Jun 2019 9:54am)
  • It's good to see what it was like before the fire. by rmc1211 (Tue 18th Jun 2019 12:48pm)
  • You can also take live lessons over skype on sites like iTalki or Verbling. Maybe contacting the Polish club (Sikorski Polish Club) near Kelvingrove park would be worthwhile. They might know of classes or be able to ask around. Google says their number is [0141 339 1368](https://www.google.com/search?q=glasgow+polish+club&oq=Glasgow+polish&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l5.3295j1j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#) by rmc1211 (Wed 19th Jun 2019 7:18am)
  • It depends what you want - if you actually want to buy fruit and veg etc then the Farmer's market in Partick isn't great. It is good for things like sourdough bread, jams, cheese, gourmet type ingredients and expensive burgers. They have lots of nice stuff, but it's not an every day shopping type market. by rmc1211 (Wed 19th Jun 2019 9:40am)
  • Me too! Supermarket garlic in the UK is crap! I not really found anywhere like that - there are some decent greengrocers around where you can get a better standard of veg etc. but I've never really come across a market doing it. It's probably not worth a farmer's time - you need to sell a hell of a lot of potatoes to justify the travel and expense of going to a farmers' market. I used to get a veg box - which was OK, but it got a bit samey. by rmc1211 (Wed 19th Jun 2019 9:45am)
  • What do you ask for when you go to the massive fuck-off chicken guy's stall? Maybe my problem is that the veg stall has sold out whenever I go. by rmc1211 (Wed 19th Jun 2019 11:50am)
  • I went to uni with his sister by rmc1211 (Wed 19th Jun 2019 3:16pm)
  • You say the weather is no issue - but the winters are long and dark - seriously, give it some consideration. I know a lot of people who have moved here and find December/January really challenging. It's not that cold (in the grand scheme) but there is so little daylight that it can really affect you. by rmc1211 (Fri 21st Jun 2019 1:31pm)
  • And go to several different sunbed places as they kick you out if you stay on too long in the one place. by rmc1211 (Fri 21st Jun 2019 1:39pm)
  • I pay a tenner but the barber smells of beer while it's being done. by rmc1211 (Sun 30th Jun 2019 12:50pm)
  • Not sure about the finances - but if you are renting a car per week I think you'd probably need/want to do it more than a side hustle (the more you are out/earn the smaller the dent of the rental fee will become). by rmc1211 (Mon 1st Jul 2019 12:36pm)
  • Needs an apostrophe. by rmc1211 (Sat 6th Jul 2019 9:13am)
  • Don't feed him after midnight and keep him away from water. by rmc1211 (Sat 20th Jul 2019 8:47am)
  • Is he quite small? I saw a black and white cat sitting on a wall in my street this morning and it isn't one of the usual cats, but it looked like a young cat. (I was on other side of road) by rmc1211 (Tue 23rd Jul 2019 2:44pm)
  • I'm in Partick - so probably unlikely. I saw him on Exeter Drive/Crathie Drive. I'm going to be out and about a bit this afternoon so will keep an eye out. I once had a cat that got on a removal van and appeared miles away! by rmc1211 (Tue 23rd Jul 2019 2:47pm)
  • Are we reclaiming the word "Weegie", now? Have you spoken to the owner of the shop? - if he learns that you have difficulty parking there then he might be quite reasonable. Maybe depends on the type of shop, if it is a Haberdashery I'd speak to him. If it is a knife shop then maybe I'd leave it to the council. by rmc1211 (Wed 31st Jul 2019 12:26pm)
  • I've not had any big moths but every time I open my windows I get huge bluebottles coming in. When I moved here at first I had a huge moth come in and fly into a cupboard above the fireplace. I shut the door and haven't opened it since. That was 8 years ago. by rmc1211 (Wed 7th Aug 2019 7:17am)
  • Actually - I see it now by rmc1211 (Wed 14th Aug 2019 6:09pm)
  • I don't see a star bar. by rmc1211 (Wed 14th Aug 2019 6:08pm)
  • They're all shit. Crooks. I never trust the quotes they claim to get for any work needing done. Mine wanted to charge £15,000 for a roof repair that I guy I know said should be no more than £2000 when he looked. by rmc1211 (Wed 14th Aug 2019 6:12pm)
  • Yeah, that's pretty much where we are with it now. I have an ancient old codger next door who is against this as he believes the factor's company will do a better job. I've tried to ask him to arrange his own quote or even just not to pay, but he's one of these guys who won't change his ways. by rmc1211 (Wed 14th Aug 2019 7:47pm)
  • Yeah. Sometimes they're hard to find. I always but a few at a time. Five star bars are no longer even a challenge for me. by rmc1211 (Wed 14th Aug 2019 9:10pm)
  • I would like to know the whole story here. Is it a random assault? Were they chatting up his daughter? Am I in danger of subway violence? Also - how did he not get electrocuted (probably a really basic answer to this)? by rmc1211 (Sun 18th Aug 2019 4:02pm)
  • Have you ever noticed that CCTV footage isn't released for weeks after a crime - must be to avoid prejudicing people or something. Happens all the time with murder/rape/nasty shit type crimes. "Do you remember this man from January?" - no chance. by rmc1211 (Sun 18th Aug 2019 4:00pm)

  • Don't order Brewdog unless you are a cunt. by rmc1211 (Sun 1st Sep 2019 11:02am)
  • There was a thread on here a while back with all their various misdemeanours. For me the phrase "equity for punks" is enough. And their manufactured schtick about them being just two guys trying to find a way to make a living in the world. They are prize fannies. by rmc1211 (Sun 1st Sep 2019 12:32pm)
  • They are all over the place. The only thing worse than a dog owner with a fully extended extendable lead walking along a pavement. by rmc1211 (Thu 12th Sep 2019 12:07pm)
  • In my experience they are a legitimate company. Fairly incompetent, but legit. Probably the HR dept have screwed up a little in the offer letter. I'd email them to confirm salary, A/L etc. A lot of jobs will give you the contract on the first day (especially call centre type companies with a high staff turnover and a load of people who just never show up on their first day. by rmc1211 (Fri 13th Sep 2019 10:47am)
  • It's relatively common here. Good luck. by rmc1211 (Fri 13th Sep 2019 10:52am)
  • With this in mind, it's probably the wrong time of year as the Edinburgh festival has just finished. Many comedians workshop the material they will take to the festival. by rmc1211 (Fri 13th Sep 2019 8:35pm)
  • This sounds like the boiler schemes a few years ago. The funding might be legit, but the company approaching you, if they are dodgy, will claim the full funding amount from government and use cheap crap materials, pocketing the difference. by rmc1211 (Sat 14th Sep 2019 12:33pm)
  • What are they like? I've never used a place like this. Are they noisy? by rmc1211 (Sat 21st Sep 2019 5:03pm)

  • So - literally the building I'm talking about then :-) Nah, it's only a long running joke on here. I don't think people really believe that this is some policy of student housing developers. by rmc1211 (Thu 3rd Oct 2019 12:07pm)
  • And the cycle starts again? by rmc1211 (Thu 3rd Oct 2019 2:02pm)
  • Yeah, I remember my landlord years ago telling me if I was ever asked to say that I was in a relationship with my flatmate by rmc1211 (Thu 3rd Oct 2019 3:01pm)
  • Because - A: They're a lot of fires in old Glasgow buildings and B: They're a lot of student accommodation projects getting approved and built. Sometimes, to be funny, people confuse correlation and causation. by rmc1211 (Thu 3rd Oct 2019 4:09pm)
  • No. But it kept the cost down! by rmc1211 (Thu 3rd Oct 2019 6:03pm)

  • Definitely is - the show lets you see more of the building. by rmc1211 (Thu 17th Oct 2019 12:22pm)
  • I had that experience once going to the airport - it's a bit of a scam as you have no way of knowing if there will be a surge at the time you book for. I'm sure if someone challenged it enough they would have to honour the price quoted when they accepted the booking. by rmc1211 (Fri 18th Oct 2019 8:13am)
  • Yeah - exactly the same with me. Lesson learned : There is no benefit to booking an uber in advance. I still use them for ad-hoc trips though. by rmc1211 (Fri 18th Oct 2019 9:22am)
  • Fair play to the writer of this piece - she's managed to sell it three times. It was in the Guardian the other day too. by rmc1211 (Mon 21st Oct 2019 9:39am)
  • Someone has to say it - that dog is on the seat, so when I turn up to work covered in dog-hairs I know who to blame! by rmc1211 (Thu 24th Oct 2019 6:21am)
  • I'm not defending it AT ALL - people who would do this shit claim that salute is an ancient Roman form of greeting (Lazio are from Rome). Obviously it is embraced by the more racist/undesirable people too. Remember Paulo Di Canio doing it often outside of the UK. In this article it is explained a little : [https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/apr/07/paolo-di-canio-fascism-historical-context](https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/apr/07/paolo-di-canio-fascism-historical-context) by rmc1211 (Fri 25th Oct 2019 7:38am)
  • Definitely not defending it, the person I replied to was asking why someone would do this. I tried to offer an explanation. My politics are miles to the left of any of those guys! I believe that the best way to handle a problem is to completely understand the motivations on all sides and try to encourage people to study their own behaviours and opinions. The article I referenced was also not defending it but explaining some of the history and was published in The Guardian which is far from a fascist publication. Unless you slag of veganism - they get pretty uptight about that :-) by rmc1211 (Fri 25th Oct 2019 10:01am)
  • Plus one for this - I go often and it's great if you want some organic jam and the like but not for everyday food. Incidentally, the Indian lady is a business genius - she's selling tubs of dhal for more than a fiver a pop. Must cost her pennies to make. When I make mine it prices out at around 40p a portion. by rmc1211 (Sun 27th Oct 2019 3:25pm)
  • Renfield Street - specifically the bus stop area near the top. It's the most depressing part of the city for me. by rmc1211 (Wed 30th Oct 2019 7:23am)
  • I think Morrison's is OK, but hate that Sainsbury's - I live right next to it, but much prefer Morrison's. It never has any fresh stock - and just now they have a huge Nectar card signup stall and a flower stand right at the door blocking people in and out. by rmc1211 (Mon 4th Nov 2019 9:53am)

  • I think there are two issues. 1. The situation you have described is sexual harrassment. It shouldn happen. 2. I hate wearing a kilt full-stop. I think it serves to belittle Scotland as a nation. It makes us look like twee little tartan clad figures on shortbread tins. It's not traditional dress (especially in Glasgow), it was developed to cow-tow to an English king by the treasonous Walter Scott. It's a symbol of oppression for me. by rmc1211 (Fri 21st Aug 2020 12:20pm)

  • Every night. Yes. Last night it was there for almost five minutes. I work from 6am so I'm generally asleep at that time. It's not the biggest issue in the world, but when I looked out my window half the street were doing the same, so it's definitely caused some disturbance to a lot of people. If it was just once, then of course I wouldn't complain. If the base is where I think it is then I think there are ways to approach it which are less built up. I reckon it's a possibility that they would be able to change. by rmc1211 (Tue 8th Sep 2020 11:29am)

  • Do these guys only nick decent bikes or do they grab anything? One was stolen from our close a couple of years ago and we all got lumped with the bill for replacing the banister they cut through. There are now at least three bikes chained in my close again - but they don't look like expensive ones. Chaining them up in the close doesn't bother me (unless there is a fire!) but having to pay if someone breaks the railing while stealing them is a pain. by rmc1211 (Tue 15th Sep 2020 10:35am)

  • Dog owners are the worst type of people in my opinion. Especially the ones who use extending leads on pavements. Of course, I can't tar them all with the same brush, but every day I get pissed off because of a dog owner's behaviour. Today, one allowed his dog to piss all over the steps of my close. Then another was about ten metres back while his dog was already around the corner blocking the entire footpath with a tripwire of an extending lead. They should bring in a test before someone can own a dog. by rmc1211 (Sun 30th May 2021 12:36pm)

Boot's The Chemist near me doesn't open until 10 on weekdays. By 10 the day is practically over. I get more annoyed about noise at night though - so understand where you are coming from. Neighbours across the road has a party that finished at 3am the other night. I lay awake plotting my revenge. Maybe I will play hymns at them early on a Sunday morning! by rmc1211 (Sun 27th Jun 2021 2:24pm)

I had a look for alternative sites and there are hardly any in the whole city. I think the mosque is the only vaguely central centre, the next closest to me is Clydebank. I know it comes down to resources, but I would have thought that the Hydro was a more convenient location for a lot of people. by rmc1211 (Fri 16th Jul 2021 4:26pm)

  • Basically it's 5 years from your last contact/acknowledgment of the debt. From https://www.nationaldebtline.org/fact-sheet-library/statute-barred-debts-s/ If the creditor can prove that you wrote to them admitting the debt, or you or anyone else owing the debt made a payment before the debt was extinguished, then the five year limitation period would start running from the date you last made contact or made a payment. If you are being asked to pay a simple contract debt that you think it extinguished, you can use the Time has run out to recover the debt sample letter to write back to the creditor. This tells them about the Prescription and Limitation Act and disputes that you owe the debt. Keep a copy of any letter that you send. by rmc1211 (Thu 5th Aug 2021 11:47am)

¿Has estado allí alguna vez? by rmc1211 (Sun 10th Oct 2021 10:41pm)
Pero solo me siento 39. by rmc1211 (Sun 10th Oct 2021 10:49pm)
  • Thanks but I'm definitely not using the English one. One of the QR codes scans correctly. Everything says NHS Scotland - the certificate, the NHS Scotland Covid Status App and the NHS Scotland Covid Pass Verification app. All downsides downloaded via links on NHS Scotland websites. by rmc1211 (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 7:07pm)
  • The app name is actually NHS Scotland Covid Pass Verification. When I open it, it says NHS Scotland Covid check (also says "Test and protect"). As I said, in pretty sure that's not the problem - it verifies the second code without problems by rmc1211 (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 7:26pm)
  • It's this one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=scot.nhs.nes.covidpassverify by rmc1211 (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 7:30pm)
  • Yup, that's the one for displaying the qr codes. I'm already using that. The problem is that the first dose QR code, when scanned in the checking app, shows as invalid. by rmc1211 (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 7:41pm)
  • It's the app they use for checking the qr code when you go into a club or travel. Came in on the 17th October apparently. Probably in panicking over nothing, but don't want to lose my whole holiday over it if I can avoid it I'm going the second QR code being verified is enough, but just wanted to confirm with someone else. by rmc1211 (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 7:49pm)
  • Do you think it's expected behaviour? When I read that page, I get the impression that both codes should show as verified. It's definitely a little dubiously worded. by rmc1211 (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 7:58pm)
  • You're very reassuring. Thanks. I'm going for a rapid antigen test tomorrow which should be a backup too. I really couldn't face missing it on this holiday. I've been working nonstop Adobe the start of the pandemic and I just want to kick back and relax for a few days. by rmc1211 (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 7:55pm)

  • Great - just done it and it definitely gives me more confidence as it literally says "fully vaccinated" below the QR code unlike the Scottish one. Cheers for that. Scanned it with a couple of checker apps without any issues - like you said there are that many different versions of certificates, apps and codes going on that it's a bit chaotic. The EU Covid Certificate seems much more straightforward. Legend. by rmc1211 (Sat 23rd Oct 2021 9:17am)

  • One of the problems for artisan bakers in Glasgow is that there is a social/community project which provides jobs to ex-cons (which is a good thing). They supply breast to a lot of restaurants, shops etc. But they can undercut any other baker severely (I don't know why exactly - maybe they have funding or don't run at a profit). It's a great idea, but it has really made it difficult for anyone else to enter the market. by rmc1211 (Sun 7th Nov 2021 8:04am)

I've only got an hour and a half away from work (I'm self employed, so if I don't work, I don't get paid and also piss off my clients). • I might get criticised for this, but I really don't get most graffiti. The professional standard murals can look good, but shit like this is just vandalism (it's definitely not Basquiat) - especially when they paint the same thing again and again all over the city. Did Leonardo Da Vinci think "this is a nice wee picture, I'll paint the mona lisa exactly like this for the rest of all time and put it everywhere I can think of"? There's a someone who has written their tag on literally every surface where I live and it just makes the place look like a slum. I'm an ESL teacher and prep people for the exam, but I also have students who "achieved" a level 7 and can't speak basic English. The University doesn't help things either - even though these students don't speak very good English, mysteriously they never fail their courses while they can pay the fees. by rmc1211 (Tue 7th Jun 2022 5:04am)
  • If you are doing typical touristy things, the subway is the way to go. Covers the city centre, west end and some of the south side. You'll need to pay separately for the airport bus - but after that the subway is faster, more reliable, cheaper and unless you want to explore the less touristic parts of the city, more convenient. (Although, remember it doesn't run 24 hours and on a Sunday it closes around 6pm) by rmc1211 (Tue 7th Jun 2022 5:08am)
  • Yes. There are a lot of timetable changes and problems with ScotRail just now. The subway still seems to have some COVID related staff shortages, but it's generally working well. by rmc1211 (Tue 7th Jun 2022 8:27am)

  • For me, it's not just the airport, but lots of other things too. I often travel to Bilbao for football. It's very similar to Glasgow in a lot of ways. More or less the same size, similar industrial history and decline. The infrastructure is lightyears ahead of ours though. Cheap reliable public transport, good airport (although basic), great links from the airport (they don't fleece you for a huge bus fair - normal rate more or less applies). A comprehensive subway system too. The way they have regenerated after the 80s should be a model for Glasgow. It's such a pleasure to get on a bus and pay about a quid to go wherever you want. The subway actually covers the city and even reaches to places on the outskirts. Great links to other cities too. by rmc1211 (Fri 17th Jun 2022 8:03am)

Then gradually, when finance allows, all public buildings should have them too. A real shame, because I was going to check it out today before ordering their veg box, but it was disgraceful. • I'd love to see a real economic summary of this. On one hand - GCC paid £150k On the other hand - lots of people on here say the local economy benefits from the production (and normally it can attract tourists if actually released). I'd like to see a breakdown of the increase in the local economy. My gut feeling is that Glasgow doesn't see much benefit from this at all because of disruption to trading, and the film companies using their existing contractors (Brad Pitt isn't getting his lunch at a locally owned restaurant every day - they have catering contractors, for example), but I think it would be great to see the real numbers. by rmc1211 (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 9:25am)
  • I am not a huge fan of Game of Thrones - but isn't the key thing that the locations kind of look the same in the show and in real life. When Glasgow is CGI'd to fuck and American signs/cars/traffic signals etc are added, it doesn't really even look like Glasgow any more, so tourists can't recognise the parts of the city from the movies so easily. by rmc1211 (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 9:57am)
  • This is what I mean though - I think there are lots of ways of defining "local". Does it really benefit the city? If it were my money (which it kind of is) I would want to know : Who audits that (GCC has notoriously poor due diligence)? What is "local"? Are there enough local technicians etc? Or are they coming from elsewhere in the UK? Are we creating a false industry? Is there enough work when WB aren't in town to keep these crews and services working? It's a relatively disruptive industry (I used to live on Gardner Street and it was a pain in the arse whenever they filmed things there). If it's worth the investment that is acceptable though. by rmc1211 (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 10:03am)

  • After 9 I would get annoyed. Actually, I'd get annoyed after 8, but I'd knock on your door at 9. I would point out two things. I'm a grumpy bastard. I work early, usually get up at 5. Someone suggested 11pm. At 11, I'd be phoning the police. by rmc1211 (Sat 6th Aug 2022 6:50pm)
  • Exactly. They have a noise team, but realistically by the time they get to you, the noise most likely will have stopped by rmc1211 (Sat 6th Aug 2022 6:58pm)
  • Embarrassing that you'd be the anti social prick who thinks it's ok to make noise THAT PEOPLE CAN HEAR IN OTHER HOUSES at that time. We're not talking about a small group of friends talking. If you are making so much noise that I can hear it in another flat then it's pretty loud. For context, I've lived in my close for eleven years and never hear any noise from my neighbours. There are students, young people and even an Airbnb in my block. I sometimes hear them walking up and down the stairs which is fine, but never anything like the OPs drilling. by rmc1211 (Sat 6th Aug 2022 7:54pm)
  • I'm not nasty and selfish. I wake up early, and I understand that it's not acceptable to make too much noise in the morning before 9am. That's when my free time is, but I do lots activities later or of consideration for by neighbours. I expect the same courtesy from them at night time too. Why not? In fact the law agrees that 11pm is a reasonable cut off too. Remember, I'm not talking about any noise. Just noise that disturbs people in another flat. by rmc1211 (Sat 6th Aug 2022 9:22pm)

  • In my close they come once a fortnight. They just sweep and mop the floor and run a cloth along the stair handrail. Loads of dust, cobwebs etc everywhere else. We have 11 flats, so the amount we each pay is low, but the actual rate they are getting seems ridiculous. We pay a total of £49.92 a month so I think it works out about 100 quid an hour because they are only here for about fifteen minutes a fortnight (obviously the cleaner will not be seeing the vast majority of that). by rmc1211 (Wed 31st Aug 2022 12:41pm)

  • I nearly got hit a couple of days ago. It was partially my fault. The guy rang his bell, and I looked over my shoulder and he was pretty much on top of me already, going at a high speed. I moved left and so did he. Then I tried to move right and so did he. The path is 6 feet wide, I don't know why he was right up my arse before ringing his bell, but most cyclists are a bit more sensible. There's a bit near Glasgow harbour where there are two mixed use paths within metres of each other. Everyday I wish they would allocate one for pedestrians and the other for cyclists, because just now both types use both paths and piss each other off. by rmc1211 (Thu 13th Oct 2022 12:02am)
  • "way worse" - a few degrees colder, more rain and less daylight. If you found London tough in January, then you won't enjoy it here. Around March it begins to improve, but we don't have consistent weather at any time of year. You could come in August and have two weeks of rain. If the weather is a concern for you, then you are better off looking at somewhere further south. If you can get a visa to work there, Lisbon like someone suggested would be a dream for me. I love the North of Spain too - still some rain to keep things green, but you actually see the sun for a few hours most days even in winter. by rmc1211 (Fri 14th Oct 2022 7:20am)

  • It's a great idea in principle, but there's really no mechanism to have a general election. The Tories have a majority in the London parliament. They would need to vote in favour of an election that they know would cause their party (and themselves) to lose. Obviously, even if they are angry with their leadership, they won't do that. You'd be better off trying to start a revolution instead. That would be more likely to be successful. by rmc1211 (Fri 21st Oct 2022 9:01am)

  • Yeah - if your objective is to register your disapproval then protests would be effective. If your objective is to have a general election then, at this moment, they are a waste of time. by rmc1211 (Fri 21st Oct 2022 10:09am)
  • Ah - I kind of had it the other way round in my head. I thought the monarch invites the leader of the majority party to form a government - but it's the other way, they have to be confident of forming a government before approaching the King. by rmc1211 (Fri 21st Oct 2022 10:50am)

It used to be that basically everyone would be a fan of the band, but nowadays, I think a lot of people just want a night out and the band is irrelevant. Moreso when the band is super famous. I went to see Springsteen a few years ago, and the majority of the crowd were just there to hear Born in the USA or Dancing in the Dark and anything apart from that they just didn't care about. They literally weren't watching. The other thing to consider is how many people are actually paying for the tickets. The Stones played Hampden about 15 years ago. I know lots of people who went and nobody actually paid for a ticket. They were getting them as work bonuses, freebies in the Daily Record and even mates of people involved in the production. by rmc1211 (Mon 26th Jun 2023 7:42am)

  • Yeah - my flat is listed on the buzzer and door as 2M (2nd floor, middle of three flats). Online it is always 2-2 on the drop down list for my postcode. When I have to manually type 2-2 on many forms I get an error as it has a non numeric character. When I type "2M", I also get an error. It does my head in. by rmc1211 (Fri 30th Jun 2023 8:10am)
  • I'm not Basque, but I support Eibar. There's a pretty big "Españoles en Glasgow" facebook group you could try. by rmc1211 (Mon 3rd Jul 2023 12:12pm)
  • I'm a co-owner (I own 1 share). They needed to raise money to be allowed to play in La Primera a few years ago when they were promoted, so they sold shares and I thought it was a nice story. I've been over there a lot and it's a great wee town, friendly people etc etc. by rmc1211 (Mon 3rd Jul 2023 1:54pm)

  • This - it's incredible how often you see people actually sweeping streets in some other countries. Obviously it comes down to money and resources and, maybe, they are missing out on other areas, but one factor here is that if someone drops some litter, it stays there until it is washed away by a deluge of rain or degrades naturally after several hundred years. (Especially outside of the Argyle street, Sauchiehall Street, Buchanan Street area) by rmc1211 (Tue 4th Jul 2023 9:24am)
  • I would agree if that was where I went, but I don't only visit touristy areas. If you travel to smaller towns and residential areas you see the same thing in many places. It's also the norm in many countries to have much more frequent residential bin collections (I think we are down to once every two to three weeks now here?) by rmc1211 (Tue 4th Jul 2023 11:42am)
  • They're often in an offy in Partick on Dumbarton Road. Next to the Thornwood post office by rmc1211 (Wed 12th Jul 2023 6:33pm)

  • It's definitely illegal to fire at someone. My brother lost an eye in the school playground to someone messing about with one. Better to phone the police now and avoid a worse problem the next time the idiot brings it out to play. by rmc1211 (Sat 15th Jul 2023 9:05pm)
  • If you just want a quiet beer - go to the casino (Genting is pretty close to the Garage). by rmc1211 (Sun 16th Jul 2023 7:55am)
  • Did you lose a lot? by rmc1211 (Sun 16th Jul 2023 9:49am)
  • It really depends what you are looking for. I've never gambled in a casino, but I prefer it to the ridiculously noisy bars across the street if I just want a pint after a long day. Also, if I'm alone at night, I wouldn't go into those bars as they are heavy cliquey in my experience. Horses for courses. by rmc1211 (Sun 16th Jul 2023 9:59am)
  • The King's? by rmc1211 (Wed 19th Jul 2023 12:41pm)
  • Regardless of anything, that's a really horribly laid out document. The margains on the title pages are all over the place (and I think it was a deliberate choice!). by rmc1211 (Sat 22nd Jul 2023 10:51am)
  • Yeah - but even with that, the positioning of the fonts on the section title pages is different on each one. Don't know how people get away with taking a wage for producing stuff like that. There's also a weird capital letter policy - the front page is all lower case (like the titles) and it makes "Golden Z" look really crap in my opinion. As the "Z" is important, I'd have chosen to use mixed fonts on that page. by rmc1211 (Sat 22nd Jul 2023 3:41pm)

  • That must just be you. It must be impossible for Scottish people do do stuff like that. In other news, have you seen Line of Duty? by rmc1211 (Wed 2nd Aug 2023 7:47am)
  • I think you know already, but a Scottish actor can somehow manage to do an English accent. Why would you think it was a unique skill to you (or the English)? Exceptionalism? Every cunt can copy other accents. by rmc1211 (Wed 2nd Aug 2023 6:52pm)
  • I think you didn't pick up on my sarcasm. Of course Scottish people can. Why would you think otherwise? by rmc1211 (Wed 2nd Aug 2023 7:00pm)
  • Not making the effort is one thing (although, I disagree, I work with foreigners every day and I think people in Glasgow make much more of an effort than people in, say, London - but sometimes people here genuinely don't know that they are difficult to understand)., But not having the ability to change is another - the content I originally replied to was asking if people here don't have the ability to change their accent, which is ridiculous. It's like saying, do English people not have the ability to learn to say "loch" properly? They do. by rmc1211 (Wed 2nd Aug 2023 8:01pm)
  • Most English speaking people are Indian. I work with a tonne of them that really, really try to change their accent to be more easily understood. by rmc1211 (Wed 2nd Aug 2023 8:26pm)

  • I don't have a bike or a car, but I much prefer drivers as, in general, they are more predictable. Cyclists can be coming from anywhere behind you at any speed. Sometimes the ring the bell, and before you can glance around to check what side they are on, they are already on top of you. It's not the mountains of the tour de France, it's a mixed use path at Glasgow Harbour you lycra fetishist! by rmc1211 (Mon 7th Aug 2023 11:21am)

  • They know that whether or not you use a nectar card. They can just monitor stock levels. The data teams are really incompetent - they genuinely don't have any special insights about people like you (although they could have if they employed decent data scientists) by rmc1211 (Mon 4th Sep 2023 9:35pm)

  • Yeah, I don't want to victim blame, but leaving it in the close is stupid. Not only that, but when they slice through the stair railings with their angle grinders everyone who lives there suffers. Three times in ten years the factors have sent me a bill for that and there's still a railing missing. Not to mention if there's a fire. by rmc1211 (Sun 24th Sep 2023 8:50pm)
  • To be fair, the bike close thieves usually aren't junkies (or addicts). It's an organised crime. That's why it's so annoying for the rest of the residents. Everyone knows this makes the close a target. by rmc1211 (Sun 24th Sep 2023 9:24pm)
  • Yeah, but I assumed the vast majority of the original post is bullshit for attention. It reads like a LinkedIn post about how you gave someone a second chance. I think in general they are taking the bikes away in a van to another city to sell. But I don't think it's junkies, I think bike thieving is their actual job hence their familiarities with angle grinders etc. by rmc1211 (Sun 24th Sep 2023 9:34pm)

So anyone spending more than 20 mins (without buying another) will have cold coffee - or an empty cup. Is that the case? by rmc1211 (Sat 14th Oct 2023 8:49am)

If water is flowing out of a closed window or something when you water the plants, that sounds like a big problem though - call the council about it. by rmc1211 (Sun 3rd Dec 2023 9:50am)
