  • Ask vía the estate agent and get responses by email. Ask if there have been any complaints made against any of the neighbours. Nobody is going to tell you that they have bad neighbours. Ask how many of your neighbours rent versus own. by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 10th May 2021 1:13pm)
  • DELETED I hope you like walking! Most taxi drivers are actually alright just a few that stick in the memory for saying weird stuff. If you're worried just go with uber as they are going to be nice just to get a good rating. by vodkaismymedicine (Tue 11th May 2021 12:32am)
  • DELETED Properties are going for between 10 and 30% over asking price. Your solicitor should be the first person you ask about what is happening in the area you are buying. This is the thing that I don't get. So people have been saving over the last year and now 5% mortgages are back but you still need that additional 20%. Who the hell has been saving that much. by vodkaismymedicine (Tue 11th May 2021 1:19am)
  • There's no good answer! If the market continues then you'll be fine. Also depends on how many years down the line. You have the risk of negative equity as well. by vodkaismymedicine (Tue 11th May 2021 1:25am)
  • We shouldn't shame anyone wanting to blow off steam after a crap year. Is it right? I don't know. I think I can hear it over in Scotstoun, I'm worried about their hearing and going death when they hit twenty. by vodkaismymedicine (Sat 11th Sep 2021 6:56pm)
  • Like everyone else, I think reporting him is your way foward. Keep a log of every incident with the date, time and what happened. Send it over to the post office as evidence and I'd even ask them to put him on a different route, if they don't suspend/fire him. You shouldn't have to do any of this but if you want a few days of peace stick a note on your door saying that you are isolating due to having covid or that you are studying and have noise cancelling headphones on, so do not disturb. Still report him and if he insists on knocking even after your note on the door asking him not to, then this is more evidence. I'd be tempted to think about getting the police involved or at least notifying them about his behaviour. by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 18th Oct 2021 1:50pm)
  • When I was twelve, me and my mates would go knock on this guy's door and get him to get us a carry out, we thought he was legend. Now, I think he was weird as fuck! Imagine a bunch of 12 year old boys showing up at your door and then going out and buying them alcohol. by vodkaismymedicine (Sat 20th Nov 2021 11:47pm)
  • He'd sell us some soapbar filled with plastic as well by vodkaismymedicine (Sun 21st Nov 2021 2:46pm)
  • Whatever you are willing to pay. Any good tradesman is booked up until spring next year at the moment and with the increased demand and cost of some building materials, quotes will be a lot higher than expected and difficult to gauge agaist others past experience. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 25th Nov 2021 2:22pm)
  • It's a bad answer but if you are renting then just move as soon as you can. It feels like a lottery with flats as to whether there will be any soundproofing and what kind of neighbours you'll get. I lived below a flat and I could hear every aspect of their life as they had wood floors and no soundprooding. Walking (sounded like stomping as they wore shoes indoors), full conversations, dog running around and barking, sex (only once a month), shitting, pissing., guitar playing..It drove me mental and I was out of work so couldn't move out. I actually did lose it once and bang on the ceiling but then tried to speak to them about the noise. They were kind of sympathetic but what were they going to do, stop living their lives, the landlord should have put down carpets of soundproofing but he wasn't going to pay for that. If you are willing to discuss with your neighbour then that is the most you can do but if he isn't willing to talk or is in anyway threatening you could go to the police and contact the council but any action could take years by which time you probably won't be living there anymore. If you are renting then speak with your landlord as he most likely knew about any problems with the downstairs neighbours. You could perhaps persuade them to let you out of your lease early if they didn't disclose this (this is what I did as the landlord knew about the problems and hadn't told me when I viewed the flat.) If not renting then invest in some carpets and you'll find the noise both ways will reduce greatly. The trend to wood floors looks great but plays havoc with any soundproofing. A carpet with a thick underlay actually works miracles. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 8th Dec 2021 7:48am)
  • Your downstair neighbour might be the reason it so affordable in the west end. Not sure where abouts you are but just a short distance outside the west end you can find some really nice places that are cheaper. If you find that your enjoyment in life is eroded to such a state that you are not enjoying the area you stay, then the area no longer matters. Even if you catch this guy commiting a crime and he gets arrested, he'll be in the flat until a court date has been set and probably even after unless you can get him evicted. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 8th Dec 2021 2:42pm)
  • Report it to the council as if the person paid someone to clear out their rubbish and it was a real company then they'll have an invoice that shows who the real fly tipper was. I used one of these companies after my bins hadn't been collected for 6 weeks and one of my neighbours had sneaked into my garden to fill up what space was left. The guy that showed up just flung it in the back of his van and drove off. I've no idea if it ended up where it should have as the company was clearly just sub contracting out. by vodkaismymedicine (Fri 17th Dec 2021 11:12pm)
  • Agree with the other comment about Scotstoun. Nice area with a good park nearby and great transportation. I can walk to partick in about thirty minutes or catch a bus and be in the city centre in fifteen. There are also some nice bits in Whiteinch right nextdoor to Scotstoun. A few nice cafes and loads of wee local shops by vodkaismymedicine (Tue 4th Jan 2022 4:39pm)
  • A locksmith requires proof of address like a diving licence and bank statement. If you have these, just call a locksmith to let you in. Say you lost your keys or something. Try and do it when you know that he's out. Not sure on the legality of this though! by vodkaismymedicine (Fri 14th Jan 2022 10:54pm)
  • But he's paid rent to live there. That's why I'm not sure of the legality and whether he can justify entering based on having paid rent. Just because the other tenant has changed the locks doesn't automatically mean the op has no rights to enter the property. While op should have got his name on the lease we don't know that other tenant is in one either. Could all be informal. Also if the op paid the rent by DD or bank transfer then he's also got financial records of living in the property. If it was cash in hand then probably not. by vodkaismymedicine (Sat 15th Jan 2022 4:31am)
  • 2000s Mamak - great mix of asian food and always busy. Easily get a good meal for under £60. by vodkaismymedicine (Sun 23rd Jan 2022 4:50pm)
  • I think that might be worse as at least I want knocking on random people's doors. I'm guessing this must work and they get someone to take the job this way. Felt like a precursor to that MLM shit. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 7:44pm)
  • Sounds like the same dodgy thing. Wouldn't have surprised me if they tried to get me to buy the stuff I was to sell first. If it hadn't been down in Greenock I would have walked off sooner. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 7:48pm)
  • I wonder if these kind of interview scams still go on! by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 7:49pm)
  • now you're making me question my memory. The salesman took out a bunch of watches and said that he needed to get the right colour before going into the pub. I remembered it being blue and thinking rangers. But it was twenty years ago and it could have been luminous yellow. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 8:02pm)
  • That sounds familiar as the offices were in that area. I wish I had gotten taken to Yoker as it would have been a long walk but at least I could have gotten home from there 🤣 No idea but wouldn't have surprised me if they asked us to buy stock or loaned it out so that if not enough was sold then money would have been owed. I think I remember the manager of the office as being Canadian with a plastic smile and black hair. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 8:16pm)
  • How's that not illegal! If you need to travel for work, outside of the location, I think you're meant to be paid. What kind of arseholes run these companies by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 8:24pm)
  • Sounds like the tactic is to get as many people through the door as possible and get a few that will stick it out. Any job praying on the elderly like that's just wrong. I hope this doesn't still happen. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 8:27pm)
  • They sound it! Another comment mentioned fancy offices and I remember this as well, contrasted with the sleazy way we approached people was well odd. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 8:38pm)
  • Same, looked professional, and they had a bell that the top sales person got to hit in the morning. Was shown this before heading out to show the great atmosphere the job had. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 8:36pm)
  • Sounds almost the same. Same dickheads anyway. I think the salesman was pissed at me when I walked away and said something but can't remember what. Definitely felt like pyramid/MLM scheme. He kept talking about how he wanted to be region head like the boss we met in the morning. The more I think about it the more odd stuff I remember. I think it was before 2010 as I was late teens maybe early twenties. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 8:48pm)
  • Whoever made you do that is a total shit. Bad enough the drag you out to a random place but then complete some nonsense crap they probably read in a Donald Trump art of the deal style bullshit book about how to become the best at management and motivation. How do they not feel ashamed of themselves! by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 9:34pm)
  • How is this even allowed! I think I was late teens or early twenties and very naive. Just luck my diabetes didn't play up from the lack of food as I'd injected in the morning. Sounds like it is still going on. Putting someone on the bus and taking them somewhere without telling them where sounds like it should be illegal. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 9:44pm)
  • I wish that I'd been asked to get a train as I'd no money and no bank card with me! Was driven around in some banged up Mazda. Sounds like the same shit! Probably gave different bags to different people. Mine was stuffed toys and watches. Or they just rotate what crap they are selling. Definitely fuck those scumbags! Telling my colleagues today, they all said it sounded more like I was kidnapped. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 10:02pm)
  • "Lets get rich" makes me want to boak! Same, why did I get in the car. This is why they target people who are too young to know better. This happened to me know I'd be laughing in their faces and be on my way. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 10:12pm)
  • Good story! by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 10:18pm)
  • How did a random let some strangers drill a hole in the wall? by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 10:17pm)
  • I wish I knew it was well known scam back then. Makes sense about the commission based approach but not something I remember them telling me back then. I worked in a call centre selling double glazing for a week around the same time. It was awful and I don't know why I stuck it out for a that long. Guy running the office had no soul. At one point we were handed a phone book and told to start calling people. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 10:17pm)
  • Posting this is bringing back some memory and I remember telling my mum about it in the house I grew up in. Means I was only 17 as the house was sold before I was 18 and I moved in with my dad. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 10:27pm)
  • Fair enough! Said on another comment that they targeted people too young to know better. Now I'd walk off and tell them to fuck off at the same time. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 10:42pm)
  • I'm jealous that you just got taken to Sliverburn and could walk out of that shit by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 10:39pm)
  • It was definitely in the same area and same shit! There's nothing more telling than when some senior prick in the office puts down a junior or someone being interviewed. Yeah they pulled out the MLM bullshit about, you too can head up a regional office. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 6th Apr 2022 10:46pm)
  • Fucking mental that they just take people away like that without warning. Think if they told people upfront no one would show up to sell their shit. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 3:33am)
  • That sounds exactly like. I remember the bell as well. Sounds a bit like a cult the way they operate. I wonder what the regional manager (I think that's what he claimed to be) I met is doing now and whether he's still selling this shit to naive teenagers. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 3:30am)
  • They act like a cult going after naive young people and then showing how great the atmosphere is, how better life is and how great you too can become. Taking you away without warning and spending the day trying to indoctrinate you. Wouldn't surprise me to find out the head guy at the office spent the rest of the time trying to hit on anyone that accepted the offer. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 3:37am)
  • I was desperate but not desperate enough to take them up on the job. They were really pushy and gave me the feeling that the sales guy had to meet a recruitment target so that he could get to the next level. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 3:43am)
  • It's fucking everywhere! I've never had anyone approach me in the streets and try to sell me this shit. I hope this isn't still going on but probably something similar is still happening. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 3:40am)
  • Sounds like the guy but probably thousands of these arseholes watching Wall Street like it's an aspirational movie. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 3:47am)
  • Fuck! I don't remember the 6 month part but it was so long ago it wouldn't surprise me if that had been said. How'd they expect people to survive without being paid that long and how do some actually look at what they're offering and go 'this is for me' by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 3:54am)
  • Another comment also did this and it cracks me up, that someone would let 4 strangers in to their house, 3 clearly just out of school, and then let them drill holes in the walls. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 3:57am)
  • The chicken outfit is a new one🤣 Right decision to not be doing that on Sauchiehall Street. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 8:22am)
  • I worked in a call centre selling book club memberships and that was awful! Get people with the free books at the start, then they'd only have a shit choice for the remaining year, unless they returned the 5 large heavy books at their own cost. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 8:28am)
  • I think the guy in charge of the place I went was also Canadian 🤣 At that point the guy should have walked so as not to have to pay the company back. No way they would have come after him. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 8:31am)
  • I just searched online and multiple similar jobs showed up talking about business to business sales. If I wasn't working I'd be tempted to apply if it's the same crap from 20 years ago. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 9:41am)
  • That would do my head in! by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 1:09pm)
  • Team leaders are fully bought into the shite. I remember doing sales at a call centre for a bit and my team leader would carry out the nonsense into the pub after work. Actively avoid being trapped next to him as he was just sales all the time. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 1:13pm)
  • You must be devastated on missing out on that potential 40k🤣 All the potential money I've missed out on, I could potentially have been a millionaire and retired by now. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 1:17pm)
  • 🤣 is this technically kidnapping/forced labour if people keep getting taken to random locations with no way home and then the only option is to do shitty sales for a day until you can get a ride home. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 4:59pm)
  • I just checked out their Facebook page and they have a picture of Elon Musk in their meeting room 🤣 already hate them. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Apr 2022 8:32pm)
  • Do these guys actually make enough money from this to buy a Porsche or are they getting it on lease. I get the feeling that everyone thinks the person above then has it made when lots of it's all just for show. Everyone knows someone that could have been a footballer 🤣. I had a PE teacher that would bang on about playing for Greenock Motion before hurting his knee. Nothing worse than a teacher trying to impress teenagers about their failed football career. by vodkaismymedicine (Fri 8th Apr 2022 2:53pm)
  • There's nothing better than a manager telling a potential new employee that they're shit 🤣 Sadly lots of people probably fall for it and believe the manager actually has some talent outside of exploiting people, by vodkaismymedicine (Sat 9th Apr 2022 9:40am)
  • Be careful about paying up front! This happened to me in London a few years ago and fortunately I'd not paid the full 6 months balance when I found out the restaurant next door had a history of noise complaints. The Landlords tried to brush it off and even forwarded me an email to show that it had been handled only the email confirmed the opposite and that the noise issues had restarted. I managed to cancel the lease but lost my deposit. If you go down that route, check out the area during the evening and at weekends to see what it's like. Maybe even knock on a few of your neighbours doors to make sure there are no issues in the block of flats. by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 11th Apr 2022 10:33pm)
  • Haha, honestly if this happened to me now I'd have been asking them for the train fare home. Apparently this still goes on in various forms. They definitely target young and naive. I still don't get how they can get away with taking people to random locations without telling them where they're going or how they're getting home. At least your mum got some pots and pans. by vodkaismymedicine (Fri 15th Apr 2022 11:15am)
  • Maki and Ramen is good but always busy and might need to wait to get a seat Nippon Kitchen and Nanakusa are alright but nothing special Katsu is good if you want katsu curry Sushi Riot in the west end does great takeaway sushi by vodkaismymedicine (Sat 30th Apr 2022 11:33am)

  • Total weird cult like. People that stuck it out must either be gullible or just cunts. It's mental this still goes on and that anyone buys something from a shady bunch with black duffle bag. by vodkaismymedicine (Sun 22nd May 2022 7:35pm)
  • I paid 12% over the home report. The only time people actually make money is when they are downsizing or moving to a cheaper area. Chances are the amount your property has increased by, your next property has also increased by. Although I'm not an expert and could be talking nonsense. My place also needed fixing up and if I could go back in time I would have stumped up for a better property without all the work that has made my life miserable. by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 27th Jun 2022 7:48pm)
  • Finger in the air and a large dose of bullshit by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 7th Jul 2022 8:20pm)
  • Like everyone says, register with a GP. There are plenty of Abbot blood testing strip for the freestyle lite. Not sure what's available where you're from but there's a device called freestyle Libre that you attach to your arm and can scan your blood sugars with your phone. Ridiculously expensive though. I think £50 to £70 for one that lasts 2 weeks. Covered by the NHS though. If you don't already use them, they're a complete life changer. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 14th Jul 2022 6:45am)
  • Contact one of their rivals and tell them how long you have on your contract what the exit fee will be. They might give you a discount to cover the difference. I did this with Virgin Media. They forgot to give me the discount but I wrote to them and then they applied it. by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 15th Aug 2022 10:55am)
  • I thought that i spend about £40 a week but when I include alcohol, coffees and takeaways that trebles. I need to stop the takeaways as that appeared to be my biggest cost followed by alcohol. by vodkaismymedicine (Sun 4th Sep 2022 1:27pm)
  • At Christmas time the bosses pay for a night out and the rest of the staff might do a secret santa amongst themselves (sometimes the managers as well) but singling out one person, boss or not, is ridiculous. Send out a company wide email saying you want a tenner from the bosses for your christmas present and see how well that goes down. by vodkaismymedicine (Tue 22nd Nov 2022 10:50pm)
  • Whatever you think it'll cost it'll be at least a third more. Start by getting prices from kitchen and bathroom companies etc... If it's a good structure and you do a lot of work yourself you could maybe do it for under 8k but need to be very tight. More likely 15k up to 100k depending on what you want. Putting in new radiators can be more expensive than the boiler. Need to take up floor boards and potentially lay new pipes. Minimum for that alone will be a couple of grand. Be careful with the flooring in tenements. If you look under the floor boards you'll find a lot of rubble and ash. This was put in on purpose for sound proofing. Lots of renovations have removed this without replacing it. Prices have rocketed over the last few years so the only way you'll find out the cost is to start getting quotes. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 30th Nov 2022 11:03am)
  • This is great but like a lot of people I live in an old house that doesn't have cavities in the walls for insulation. I contacted a company a while back and told that just couldn't do it. Lots of homes that have been retrofit with cavity wall insulation now have damp problems and need it removed to sell. Lots of companies will pop up now, get the grant, and do a bad install job. I would love to have this in my house but until they can find a way to insulate effectively then I doubt this will happen. by vodkaismymedicine (Tue 6th Dec 2022 8:03pm)
  • It'll be interesting and I think they'll find it can be done but then it'll come down to whats cost effective and can people rip up their floors and walls to do this. It will be interesting to see whether there are non-invasive ways of insulating or will heat-pumps get to a stage where they function in poorly insulated homes. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 7th Dec 2022 4:18pm)

  • It'll take a couple of days work but you'll need to clear out the room and no matter how much dust sheets they put down there will still be a mess left. Even though a fireplace already exists they might need to widen it to fit your stove. The whole process at it's cheapest will probably be about 3k. You will also need to think about where you can store the wood as buying small bags is costly and you're better ordering large bags of wood. Every woodburner has to be an ecodesign now and there's no plan to ban these as yet but that might change. The companies providing them say it won't as they are meeting the new guidlines but governments and policies change. Yes they have particle polution but if you are only using it every now and then I wouldn't worry about it. Just don't make it your main source of heat. When I was looking at flats, a few had wood burning stoves but I couldn't see where they kept the wood logs and looked like they had barely been used. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 22nd Dec 2022 10:02pm)

  • I vote tkmax and finding as close a fit as possible then getting it altered. If not M&S do decent suits but for some reason still carry a reputation for being for people in their 70s. I've been to slaters twice and found that they just tick the box so you'll get exactly what you ask for but that doesn't mean they look good. Second time I asked for a brown suit. They brought me a gray suit that had brown on the label. No matter what I said they insisted it was brown due to what the label said. Guy got a second opinion and second guy agreed it was brown. I thought I was going crazy as it was fucking gray. by vodkaismymedicine (Tue 31st Jan 2023 2:08am)

  • This happened to me a few years ago. The landlord came back and said someone had offered three months up front but as I was first to offer on the flat if I could match it then I could have the flat. First night I moved in I was kept up all night by a restaurant close by that's customers went from shouting inside to shouting outside and slamming car doors. Turns out there had been a history of complaints and they had recently got their alcohol license renewed, after it had been taken away by the council. This was in London before moving back to Glasgow. Fucking arsehole landlords tried to cover themselves saying I only asked about noise from the cars outside and should have known to ask about any other noise. Ended up threatening them with court and all sorts to get out of the lease but still lost that three months of rent. Still makes me angry thinking about it. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 16th Mar 2023 9:14pm)

  • From what I've seen classical albums don't tend to sell for much. The few seconds hand classical records I've bought have ranged from 25p to £2. The jazz ones might be worth something but you need to ask yourself will the person buying from you be honest about it. Best to do as the comment above says and check yourself. Either that or just pick a number you're comfortable with and someone might buy them in the hopes of finding something mixed in there. by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 10th Apr 2023 8:36am)

  • There's always someone no matter where you go that thinks they're the only person there. Had this at The Cure a few years ago and a few others. Usually big enough venue to just get away from them and have a good time. Most people don't want a confrontation and just want a good night out so avoid saying anything. I take comfort in thinking that they're probably miserable cunts when home alone. by vodkaismymedicine (Fri 14th Apr 2023 9:16pm)

  • Yeah it's an amazing city and I just think that if you've not left it and experienced other places you might not appreciate it as much. There are so many great parks, the restuarants are great and more diverse than they ever were. Loads of great pubs and if I ever get too drunk I can usually manage the hour walk home when I can't find a taxi. I also think the city could become even better with a few changes, get back to caring for addicts and providing safe spaces, creating litter programs, encourage cycling and public transport etc. by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 24th Apr 2023 6:54pm)
  • There's Dear Green near the barra's. They are sold in lot of small shops around glasgow. There's a placed in Cessnock called Good Coffee Cartel as well. Sure there's other but can't think of them off the top of my head. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 27th Apr 2023 8:38pm)
  • I think it's a weird mindset of you only ever use your car to get places. I don't drive and catch busses, trans, and sometime cycle. Other then firstbus it's easy to get around and Glasgow is small enought to walk most places. Even if a train takes longer than a car, I just read or listen to music. Same as I would if I was sitting at home. But I've got mates that insist on driving everywhere and don't understand why I'd decline a lift and spend an extra thirty minutes on a train. "But it's quicker!", fine I'll just read on the train, "but we can keep each other company!", I can only actually tolerate you sober for thirty minutes or while drunk. If they make the city centre walk and cycle only then the council could get electric carts reserved for the elderly and disabled like you see at train stations and airports. I'm sure there are loads of other ways they could make the city more accesible for everyone. I actually hate the addiction to cars when they cause so much harm. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 27th Apr 2023 9:10pm)

  • If it's the smoke alarm or carbon monoxide detector do they not need to investigate! If no one is smelling smoke then most likeky a burglar alarm or carbon monoxide detector. Burglar alarms are shit but if its a carbon monoxide detector then like the smoke alarm should someone not check it as there's a risk to other flats. I'd call the cops and tell them you are worried. by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 8th May 2023 10:29pm)
  • Your factor will have their contact details but they won't reply until tomorrow. Speak with your neighbours and get them all to start calling the police, factors, noise team.. the more pressure they feel the more likely they are too do something. If no one is checking how do they know that there isn't something wrong. A candle getting blown out can set off my smoke alarms if too close so it doesn't take much and could be just something small. What's the point of having the interconnected alarms if when they go off no one checks them by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 8th May 2023 10:44pm)

  • It is there problem! I'd contact Shelter UK and tell them you are having this issue and the landlord is not taking any action. They'll give you the applicable laws to use messaging and what action you can take. You are paying them money for a habitable flat and if it is not habitable then they are legally required to provide alternative accomodation until it is. by vodkaismymedicine (Tue 9th May 2023 9:34am)
  • At least there's progress. Lots of people don't know there rights and shit landlords will do the bare minimum until you show them you know what you're talking about. • The best thing to do is make sure that all food is sealed away. Check any packets or cereal boxes for tiny bites even if they are in cupboards with no obvious access. Mice come indoors for food and warmth during the winter. If you don't have any food eaten then there is a chance the mouse was just going to another flat. You can't control how your neighbours store food. Living in a city no matter what you do, at some point you'll have a mouse running through. Traps and poision are what I've used in the past. Poison yeah you run the risk of a smell but it also means that the mouse will take it back to the other mice and fuck them up as well. As long as they haven't nested in your house might be worth the risk. Try sealing up as many entry points as you can but in old block of flats and houses this is near impossible. Bets advice is just keep the place clean and seal away food. Don't leave fruit or anything out. by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 15th May 2023 12:21pm)
  • Don't be scared but also don't use only dating apps. They are OK but not to be taken too seriously as it's easy to take them for more than they are. Nobody is going to judge you, and any that do says more about them than you. I use tinder and don't remember any profiles I've passed by and don't imagine anyone remembers me as well. Those that I've swiped on I probably don't remember unless we match. I'm going to go against what some people say about meeting through hobbies etc. Don't join those groups just to meet someone to date, let that happen naturaly. It's usually men that show up not really interested in the hobby or event and just to hit on people and can be a pain when you are genuinely inerested in something. If you go to just have fun and meet someone as a side that is cool. Meeting someone in person can be good but truthfully I've not done that in a few years. by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 15th May 2023 12:28pm)

  • There's a number of issues with tenament and converted properties. Old tenaments used to have rubble dumped between the floors to create soundproofing this was often removed when they were refurbished as lots of builders didn't know why it was there. I don't know if this was the same for victroian buildings. Having been on the otherside of this, I experienced the intimiate details of their lives, footsteps, sex (thankfully only once a month), pissing, shitting, guitar plays + stomping(daily), dog running and barking (every thirty minutes), full conversations etc. I spoke with their landlord about soundproofing and he was very dismissive. I understood it wasn't their fault but it was slowly driving me mad. I knew they coudln't stop living their lives so decided I was never going to live on anything but top floor flat in the future and moved. My solution to this before I moved was getting a massive pair of noise cancelling headphones As others have said there is not much you can do and seems like you are doing what you can already. Ask him if he raised complaints with the previous owners and whether these were formal etc. as they should have been disclosed to you before purchasing. Also ask him what he actually expects you to do as it sounds like they are just complaining rather than trying to do something about it themselves. You're already planning on getting soundproofing and that's more than what most people would do. Tell him that until hovershoes are invented he'll need to put up with the noise and if he can't then he should consider finidng a top floor flat themselves. by vodkaismymedicine (Sun 21st May 2023 12:10am)
  • Truthfully you need to stop worrying about what you can't control. I'd take his comment about the previous owners with a pinch of salt. Unless they sat around all day without moving then there would have been noise. I think your neighbour needs to think about finding another flat without upstairs nieghbours. Get on with living your life and eventually they'll tire of complaining. by vodkaismymedicine (Sun 21st May 2023 12:54am)

  • There's places to live and places to visit. Most tourist places around the world aren't great to actually live in as it's all tailored towards tourists. Honestly I don't think many people in Glasgow care of someone prefers Edinburgh. Only time I hear about any rivalry is when I'm in Edinburgh. Most people here just get on with their lives. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 25th May 2023 3:51pm)

  • Honestly if you've done all these things unless you want to let this consume your life just have a few emails ready to go everytime they dump something but there's little motivation from anyone to tackle to people doing it head-on. They should be getting fined etc and the council should be contacting them and they might have already done this but I imgaine that if the people are doing this so blantantly they probably just don't care and will continue. There are some other things you can do though, get together with your neighbours and plant some flowers or something in the area where it gets dumped. Get the local community involved in the area so it's not just you. See if anyone else is contacting the council and start barraging them with emails. [https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/genius-ways-communities-tackling-fly-21619157](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/genius-ways-communities-tackling-fly-21619157) If you know their address then you could also look it up and find their landlord (if they are renting) and start contacting them on a regular basis, This would however put your name out there and the landlord might just tell them. You could alternatively report the landlord for flytipping as its his property,. by vodkaismymedicine (Tue 30th May 2023 10:28pm)

  • I did the same in the past and while I had a great time I also realised that I was the same person abroad as I was at home. Glasgow in the winter can be a problem as the lack of sunshine really doesn't help so in that respect going somewhere to get some decent weather can help your depression. Honestly just take a short holiday somewhere sunny where you can relax or experience something new. If you can't get a flight then jump on a train down south or out to a beach somewhere. Think about stuff you do like and then look up countries that have an abundence of them. If you really want to work abroad then the easiest way is to take a TEFL course (make sure its one of the recognised ones like CELTA as loads of cheap dodgy ones that won't get you a job) and then apply for jobs aboard. Countries can be strict on who they take though so try and get your drinking sorted out first. by vodkaismymedicine (Wed 31st May 2023 7:16pm)
  • Landlords have to provide a safe living environment otherwise pay for you to stay elsewhere. Follow the links in the other comment. Shelter are great and gave me all the legal wording I needed to get out of a shit contract once. Once you have that push the landlord to move you to safe property. Most likely they are all dodgy but at least without the smell. Go to a doctor and get something confirming this is impacting your mental health and if it is raw sewage then potentially your physical health as well. I think the council have an environmental health team you can contact and get out to have a look. Think about going to the papers as well. Dodgy landlord stories will let other people know not to rent from him and put a dent in his pocket. Might also kick the council into gear to take action. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 1st Jun 2023 4:51am)
  • Honestly it needs to be the companies that creates the litter in the first place that take ownership. Most of it ends up in landfills or shipped off to another country to deal with. Very little of it is recycled. I think part of the reason we see so much more of it is because companies continue to produce so much more of it. Start taxing fastfood restaurants a clean up tax. Make it law that all supermarkets must accept any plastics they create back for disposal or better yet that nothing is wrapped in platsic in the first place. Create more green spaces so that everyone can take pride in where they live and when they go to the countryside they don't treat it like they do where they live. Plant more flowers all around the city, get rid of cars and create more pedestrian and cycle paths. Make the city a place for people rather than just cars. Start teaching tidying up in schools. While not everything from other places is great there is a thing in Japan where the school kids have to tidy their own classrooms. There are loads of things that can be done but the politicians will need to be pushed because they'll do fuck all themselves. by vodkaismymedicine (Sat 3rd Jun 2023 11:44am)

  • Offer what you can afford. Increase in interest rates mean there are less buyers and sellers are going to have to accept less as people have less money to buy. I bought a 1 bedroom at 3% over about 6 years ago and then sold it for a little over 2% over, this was at peak time, when places were going for crazy amounts. It was a nice flat but just not much interest. I was told it was because it was large and high price for a 1 bedroom where people preferred a smaller kitchen and 2 bedrooms. If it's going to a closing date then it's most likely got a lot of interest but if there's no closing date then offer below or on the home report value. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 6th Jul 2023 12:42pm)

Create a new identity, get a one way ticket on a merchant ship to a South American country, pay off your debts working for one of the cartels, work your way up the ranks until your are shipping cocaine to Glasgow, send over a hitman, kill your landlord and anyone he knows, move back to Glasgow and claim back your old identity. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 6th Jul 2023 12:51pm)
  • Look at what you can afford, decide on the amount you are willing to pay over the home report (or under), and go with that. You might win you might not but as long as you are happy with the amount. Some people bid ridiculous amounts over. Also a mortgage doesn't include the amount paid over the home report so you need that in cash as well. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 6th Jul 2023 1:20pm)
  • I think in general people need to start getting dog licenses again. Dogs are mostly great but the owners that let them shit near kids play areas are the worst and while the risk is low can result in going blind. Dangerous dogs do need to be outlawed as no matter how well they are trained there is always an unexpected circumstance that might set them off. Doesn't matter how nice they normally are. Almost every dog attack is XL bully and they've shown time and time again that they can't be controlled. They are a dangerous weapon and should be treated as such. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 6th Jul 2023 3:25pm)
  • Sorry I should have said fatal dog attacks. Go straight onto wiki and they are XL bulldogs, and american bulldogs. I didn't say they were demonic what I said was that if they do attack and dogs can attacked without normally being aggresive, they are the ones that end up killing. As with anything that can kill they should be heavily regulated. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 6th Jul 2023 3:45pm)
  • Yeah we can agree on that and it is definitely the way forward not just for people but for dogs as well. See so many people that have dogs that shouldn't have dogs, keep large dogs in small flats, and don't show them attention. While I'm far more on the side of people and kids, I also think there are many idiots that use dogs as fashion accessories than actual animals to be cared for. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 6th Jul 2023 3:57pm)

At least if there are licenses then if someone has a dangerous dog it should be easier to get them taken away. Would also stop abbusive people getting dogs. It would require investment and actual consequences. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 6th Jul 2023 4:57pm)
  • It would hopefully make people accountable and was something that was done before. The moment someone starts abusing a dog or is caught owning a banned breed is no longer capable of getting one legally, if they get one legally have harsher sentences. Doesn't matter if the vast majority are as some of the breeds are the equivelant of lethal weapons for which you should need to register for. I think you need a license to own a gun. While the vast majority don't there's still been an increase in attacks and deaths recently. Then there's the dog shit all over the parks that while not as bad is just minging and a health hazard. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 6th Jul 2023 10:59pm)
  • Honestly charity shops will love them. I did this a few months back and had loads to titles that weren't common. They are so used to getting a hundred copies or whatever is popular and then can't shift them. I filled up several large bags and caught an uber to the oxfam on byers road. by vodkaismymedicine (Sat 8th Jul 2023 7:54pm)
  • If this is the first time meeting in person make sure it's in a public place and during the day. I recommend George sq or Glasgow Green as there are plenty of pubs nearby to both. by vodkaismymedicine (Sat 8th Jul 2023 8:13pm)
  • Catch a train to Largs and back again. by vodkaismymedicine (Sat 8th Jul 2023 8:58pm)
  • I'm not sure what band you went to see but can't make out who the guitarist is from the picture. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 13th Jul 2023 6:53am)
  • Ah fuck that guy. Thought it might have been some decent guitarist I'd missed. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 13th Jul 2023 7:30am)
  • Don't worry about it as they are not chasing after tourists. I got all my tv aerial wires removed from my place but left the aerial on my roof. The bbc are really behind as its only my parents generation that watches this way anymore. The license doesn't translate well to streaming. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 13th Jul 2023 7:45am)
  • Start looking early each day and look at areas outside of the city that have good train connections. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 13th Jul 2023 8:06am)
  • Some parts are good and some are OK. I've never seen any trouble and regularly walk home from the city or west end late at night. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 13th Jul 2023 8:04am)
  • Check with the rental agencies and see if they'll accept your parents as guarantors. Otherwise in the short term you might consider a hostel or reach out to any students you know that are away over the summer and have a spare room in a private flat. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 13th Jul 2023 8:03am)
  • All these adverts live in my memory. Still remember the smoking one that was like a Britney Spears video. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 13th Jul 2023 2:44pm)
  • These all worked as everyone I knows remembers them. Didn't stop us drinking and taking minor drugs. But not cigarettes and no smack. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 13th Jul 2023 5:05pm)
  • I didn't see it was linked to the other sub reddit this morning. Honestly they're all just Depp's PR department. Must be getting paid to write that shite. by vodkaismymedicine (Thu 13th Jul 2023 5:13pm)
  • Honestly smokers are the worst. Most my mates don't smoke but the ones that do just light up wherever and drop the filters in puddles. Like they are great in any other situation but just turn into dicks when smoking. Think as soon as they are outside it's cool. by vodkaismymedicine (Fri 14th Jul 2023 6:57pm)
  • There's no avoiding noise in tenements. They used to have rubble between the floors and carpeted. Modern renovations have removed the rubble and replaced carpets with wooden floors. This means all noise travels right through. I'd go down and ask her as often people stop complaining when asked what the actual problem is. You're allowed to watch the TV and live your life. by vodkaismymedicine (Fri 14th Jul 2023 10:14pm)
  • Isan Thai is great but they also had a single mango priced at £7 by vodkaismymedicine (Sat 15th Jul 2023 10:47am)
  • I cycle this path and ring my bell every time but it mostly just gets ignored. Every cyclist, pedestrian, car driver... Makes the occasional mistake and then every group has their share of cunts. I got shouted at in loch Lomond even though I'd rang my bell and the group had blocked the entire path. They just didn't hear me. I still slowed down so no danger. The only justified cyclist hate is on the deliveroo drivers that cycle dangerously fast in pedestrian areas. The only thing that'll actually fix this is getting decent cycle lanes. Bicycles aren't suited for shared space with cars or pedestrians but we're forced into them and then as a cyclist in a pedestrian area you need to be more cautious by going slow and ringing your bell. Good luck getting cars to be more cautious around cyclists as there are points in the city I just avoid now. by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 7th Aug 2023 11:29am)
  • Yeah the rich men part was the part that seemed off by vodkaismymedicine (Sun 13th Aug 2023 6:28pm)
  • Yeah I saw another post from a few years ago and they comments said he was harmless but honestly "rich men over 50" is weird as fuck by vodkaismymedicine (Sun 13th Aug 2023 6:30pm)
  • Was not expecting it to go in that direction. Hate when someone just gets called eccentric when they're really just a creep. by vodkaismymedicine (Sun 13th Aug 2023 6:39pm)
  • Station Kitchen is great. I downloaded this app and while it's in chinese I can usually find an address to find the tasty food that's posted in the pictures. Search Red Book app in the playstore. https://preview.redd.it/i4q5i4ldd4ib1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=d639e7239b9e88b9ae67b72eb67cfa0a839feb30 by vodkaismymedicine (Mon 14th Aug 2023 7:32pm)
  • Glasgo cabs do the same. If you put that you want to pay card no car accepts the fair and the moment you change to cash then the fair gets accepted. by vodkaismymedicine (Tue 29th Aug 2023 11:10am)
  • The one on West Nile Street used to a be a malaysian cafe that was one of the first places to sell bubble tea in Glasgow. I've not been to the new one but as it looks like they're becoming a franchise it's only a matter of time before the quality takes a hit. It would be great if a rival cropped up in the city centre. I would not complain to 3 ramen places close to each other. by vodkaismymedicine (Sat 2nd Sep 2023 6:14am)
  • Yes thank you :) by vodkaismymedicine (Sat 2nd Sep 2023 9:53am)
