  • My friends advice (who recently did it for 4 months): "Unless you're getting paid really, really well then I'd say it's really not worth it because of the sheer lack of time you'll have during the week. I'd get home knackered every day, cook, eat, do dishes and then have to get to bed to get up at 6 to repeat. The trains were expensive, busy, and just nah" by CraigJDuffy (Fri 1st Nov 2019 8:49pm)

  • Sounds like a question best directed at the group who manage your car park. I'd say leave a note and ignore any tickets. Private parking tickets are only enforceable in court and if it's residents only parking and you're a resident then you're entitled to be there. by CraigJDuffy (Sat 25th Jan 2020 7:03pm)

  • Dennistoun is nice! Definitely visit some of the breweries near there if you are into beer. As for hidden gems; Dennistoun Bar-B-Que is pretty decent for a burger, Bloc+ on bath street has great weekday food deals, the University Café does great haggis, neeps, and tatties. Inn Deep is a great craft pub with the best pizza in Glasgow for the price (in my opinion). Visit some distilleries and go on Whisky tours to learn about Scotland’s natural drink (if you drink) and it’s worth heading to Edinburgh for a ghost tour (discounts on groupon) for a bit of Scottish history. Can’t wait for you to be welcomed to Scotland! by CraigJDuffy (Mon 11th May 2020 4:06pm)
  • No problem! As for do’s and don’t’s; same as anywhere. Do: be sound (nice), don’t: be a cunt. Also, get a raincoat; from September till April it’s biblical in Glasgow. • I kept a parcel for a neighbour for a week and after the first few days just shoved it in the cupboard. Their family was in hospital and they just hadn’t been home to collect it and were very apologetic. Hold onto it and wait for them to come get it. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 21st May 2020 11:37am)

  • Very comprehensive answer, as you said though it’s almost impossible to help them without a rough idea of where they are coming from If you are coming from anywhere near a subway station the easiest way get to U of G is to get a subway to kelvin bridge or hill head. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 27th May 2020 8:50pm)
  • Surprisingly easy to do, I built a similar system for a project at uni (although did not handle any payment processing) If you wanna just have a system that relays orders to the bar then that’s pretty simple (I mean hey you could literally just have laminated menus with codes and have people text you) the tricky bit is doing the payment processing first. by CraigJDuffy (Sat 30th May 2020 10:02am)
  • Oh, and do it through the web. by CraigJDuffy (Sat 30th May 2020 10:44am)
  • Absolutely! Or just have someone at a “till” by the pickup point with the reader decently far away. It’s super easy as long as you don’t have to worry about the secure stuff like payment. by CraigJDuffy (Sat 30th May 2020 10:44am)
  • Aye it’s no that hot haha by CraigJDuffy (Sun 31st May 2020 5:11pm)
  • I definitely think there should be plaques on the streets so people are aware of the persons involvement with the slave trade. We as the U.K. are all to happy to forget about our involvement in slavery even when our taxes were still paying for it up until 2015 by CraigJDuffy (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 9:55am)
  • Naw you’ll be fine, just put something under it so you don’t burn the grass and leave it to cool down (minimum 24 hours) before putting the coal in the bin by CraigJDuffy (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 12:15pm)
  • Aye. Plenty in local independent off-licences and Spar. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 12:30pm)
  • Basically, the government borrowed a lot of money to compensate slave owners and we were still paying back that borrowing until 2015. [here ](https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/feb/12/treasury-tweet-slavery-compensate-slave-owners) is a pretty good article about it. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 12:35pm)
  • Aye, and the whole thing that came out of it was “apprenticeships” where slaves were forced to work for free while the government gave tax breaks to the slave owners for taking on apprentices. In many ways it was worse than slavery. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 1:13pm)
  • Did ya read the article I linked to? We were paying compensation to slave owners for the abolishment of slavery (while also allowing them to still have slaves - effectively) . I’m definitely not proud of that. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 1:18pm)
  • While this is true, to continue to pay that debt to their children and their children’s children, and their children’s children’s children and not just end it with their life and/or not compensate them such a ludicrous amount in the first place would have been better. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 3rd Jun 2020 1:27pm)

  • I don’t, that’s my issue. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 11th Jun 2020 2:29pm)
  • Not necessarily, as people are returning to normality forcing masks on public transport isn’t necessarily a bad idea. Back in March nobody(not literally nobody but very few) people were leaving their house. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 11th Jun 2020 2:40pm)
  • Yeah, I’m not sold on the efficacy and I’ve also seen the studies that show them to be detrimental. Loads of people are wearing them out and about unnecessarily. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 11th Jun 2020 2:47pm)
  • One example: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-news-face-masks-increase-risk-infection-doctor-jenny-harries-a9396811.html Opinions are still very split on the real world efficacy. Hence why some countries (e.g Norway) aren’t recommending them. The issues arise from the fact that while yes the mask reduces chance of airborne droplets it massively increases the chance of you touching your face often / putting a dirty mark on surfaces etc. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 11th Jun 2020 9:55pm)
  • Fuck’s going on? Fannies. by CraigJDuffy (Sun 14th Jun 2020 2:58pm)

  • Second this! I have a printer and scanner that op is more than welcome to use. by CraigJDuffy (Fri 3rd Jul 2020 6:28pm)
  • While I agree with this sentiment in principle; in practice it’s not as simple as that. As a start, indoor cats are almost impossible to find and when you do they often ask that you are an experienced pet owner due to the animals having trust/ anxiety issues. I’d love a rescue but it just doesn’t seem practical sometimes :-( by CraigJDuffy (Sun 5th Jul 2020 2:13pm)
  • Yeah, I “repaired” a similar issue with a liberal amount of superglue but it probably isn’t a permanent solution. by CraigJDuffy (Sun 5th Jul 2020 8:07pm)
  • Do they need special care? I am only able to find 1 indoor only cat at the moment and she is characterised as “very, very, very timid and shy and requires an experienced cat owner” which I am not. by CraigJDuffy (Sun 5th Jul 2020 11:57pm)
  • Aye it’s probably that. Or to get into a beer garden somewhere? by CraigJDuffy (Mon 6th Jul 2020 5:58pm)
  • If it’s Glasgow university you are at then the SRC run a flat share service that’s worth looking into. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 7th Jul 2020 11:05am)

  • Apply for Universal Credit straight away, and then start job hunting. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 7th Jul 2020 4:10pm)
  • I’ve got a Radeon 6970M from an iMac in the house but it’s MXM not PCI so I don’t think it will help you at all, however, I am able to create a bootable BootCamp drive for your machine and then loan you that for a few days? That should let you boot into Windows off this external drive and then flash your 980Ti again? Anyway, I have a Mac and various external drives and stuff and I’m happy to help if I can so let me know :-) by CraigJDuffy (Tue 7th Jul 2020 5:03pm)
  • Fair! They aren’t checking that sorta stuff the now though (or at least they didn’t for me) due to covid. But as a poor “just graduated from uni” adult I didn’t have to worry about savings. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 7th Jul 2020 5:21pm)
  • Glasgow is the third city I have lived in but I always moved because of Uni so I just kinda had to find my feet by studying. Come on up! You’ll be very welcome. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 8th Jul 2020 10:11am)
  • They’re a private student housing company; they are all a scam. But to not be facetious they seem like a legitimate company. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 8th Jul 2020 6:40pm)
  • The private rental market or gumtree for private landlords is the way I have always done it. If you don’t have a flat mate and can’t afford a 1 he’s flat then Spare Room is pretty good as is the flat share services that a lot of university student unions run. If you’re in your first year of study you can also apply for university provided accommodation. :-) Good luck! by CraigJDuffy (Wed 8th Jul 2020 6:51pm)
  • Phone 101 by CraigJDuffy (Thu 9th Jul 2020 2:13am)
  • The uni don’t even know yet, currently there is massive travel restrictions globally so just hold off and the uni will reply when they have an answer for you. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 9th Jul 2020 2:23am)
  • This is why I edited it :-) I more meant it is disturbing the peace of the night like the noise law thing after 11pm. I thought it would be classed under breach of the peace but apparently not. I reckon 101 is the best solution for op they can probably shut off the alarm and fine the business if it keeps happening by CraigJDuffy (Thu 9th Jul 2020 2:28am)
  • Came here to say this but you’ve summed it up better than I could. GCC made decisions which lead to anti-social behaviour. It isn’t an excuse for it but they could have taken steps which would have prevented it. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 9th Jul 2020 11:47am)
  • It’s not their fault, I never said that. They could have, however, taken steps to reduce the likelihood of antisocial behaviour. If the council give a pub a 3am licence then the likelihood of antisocial behaviour at 3am goes up. Now, it is still the fault of the people who are committing the anti social behaviour but the council could have prevented this by not issuing a 3am licence. In this case, the anti social behaviour could have been mitigated by closing streets and allowing licensed pubs to have extended beer gardens in the street outside (as is happening elsewhere). This, would have likely reduced the incidence of antisocial behaviour. All this is going to do is push the antisocial behaviour into the streets / elsewhere. As the top comment said everything is closed and a lot of people are out of work, what else to do but get pished? by CraigJDuffy (Thu 9th Jul 2020 12:27pm)
  • Yeah, exactly. When the weather is nice people want to sit outside and enjoy it (quite often with a drink) but they had even closed the play parks. When you can’t even have a shot on the swings what are you to do? by CraigJDuffy (Thu 9th Jul 2020 12:55pm)
  • Is that the main group? When I walked through KG park the other day it was a pretty mixed range of people. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 9th Jul 2020 1:05pm)
  • I agree that a lot of folk “looked young” but I also saw a lot of folk with tattoos and stuff in the groups which would suggest they are 18. Even then, with the adults out the way it becomes far easier to crack down on underagers by CraigJDuffy (Thu 9th Jul 2020 1:15pm)
  • I went last week, spent about 5 minutes in the queue and it was very quiet in the store. I went at around 7pm. by CraigJDuffy (Sun 12th Jul 2020 9:59am)
  • It’s not been particularly more unsafe than it ever has been, there has just been a slight uptick in stuff (probably due to folk not being in work etc). I would try not worry about it too much, and you will probably be fine. by CraigJDuffy (Sun 12th Jul 2020 10:59am)
  • Lots of letting agents do it but it is illegal. From [Shelter](https://scotland.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/advice_topics/information_for_landlords/Landlords_and_deposits): “ Landlords cannot make tenants pay a holding deposit (sometimes called key money) to secure a property in advance of the tenancy beginning. “ by CraigJDuffy (Mon 13th Jul 2020 10:06am)
  • Yeah most landlords are pretty chill about it and won’t scam you but it’s still not quite right. I think a lot of companies haven’t quite changed their ways since it became illegal in 2018 by CraigJDuffy (Mon 13th Jul 2020 11:32am)
  • This was asked a couple days ago here and the responses were that no pubs are allowed to at the moment to prevent crowding. I didn’t bother to verify this though. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 14th Jul 2020 2:11pm)
  • Honestly, the skip. I don’t think that many people buy DVDs these days. This being said, CEX will take them as will charity shops. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 15th Jul 2020 2:57pm)
  • As a resident of Maryhill most of it is but as other commentators have said you get some bellends. This being said, I’ve never had an issue here and I’ve only ever had an issue on Byers Road which is a lot more upmarket than MH where some wanker heat butted me. I would go for it. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 15th Jul 2020 6:31pm)
  • Nowt much to tell. Was walking down Byers road with my headphones in when some wanker in jeans that were too big for him and a baseball cap round the wrong way put his hands up to signal stop in front of me. I presumed he was gonna ask for change or something but as I went to take my headphones out and say “aye mate?” he stuck the heed into me and burst my nose then walked off laughing. Phoned the police promptly, entire thing on CCTV, nothing came of it. Police Scotland really do protect the community, eh? Was my third day living in Glasgow haha On the plus side, some CCTV from a street over shows him getting leathered by a group of guys so my theory is that he got in a fight, got shown up, and decided to assault a randomer to cure his ego by CraigJDuffy (Wed 15th Jul 2020 9:23pm)
  • Aye, it’s been fine apart from that. The weather is shite though, my solid memory of Glasgow is standing in the rain at 7am 5 days a week waiting on the bus and every day it is raining 😂. I’m enjoying the summer though. I only moved from Edinburgh though thankfully, I’d hate for that stuff to happen to someone international. • I was with talkTalk on a 4 year contract and I couldn’t wait to drop them. They were awful. I didn’t have internet for a solid 2 weeks once. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 15th Jul 2020 10:59pm)
  • You lucky bastard. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 15th Jul 2020 10:58pm)
  • By contrast, I had them for 4 years and had amazing uninterrupted 350mbps + service. Their tech support / billing department was god awful but thankfully I only needed to phone them once to switch address. Seems to be that areas where virgin is “new” have frequent issues. Mine was old telewest lines. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 15th Jul 2020 10:58pm)
  • All OpenReach providers are various degrees of shite due to the ancient phone lines they are using up to the cabinet. I am with EE and they are alright but the speeds of 50mbps is underwhelming compared with the 500+ I got on virgin in my old flat. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 15th Jul 2020 10:55pm)
  • Cheers! I went for a pint straight after it and I very quickly couldn’t feel it anymore haha by CraigJDuffy (Wed 15th Jul 2020 11:02pm)
  • Aye same, or we had some way to report it. I live across from a Spar and every day a man comes, parks his car outside, buys 3 papers from the Spar, reads them, and as he is done with them chucks them out his window. I’ve thought about calling 101 or asking spar to stop serving him but I doubt they’d take it seriously by CraigJDuffy (Wed 15th Jul 2020 11:09pm)
  • Aye the council have suspended their recycling services and even if they hadn’t my bins are full of disposable masks so couldn’t be recycled anyway. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 15th Jul 2020 11:29pm)
  • This was back in November, mentioned it to the landlord but they said that it was fine and scrap collectors would get it. In fairness, it was gone the next day but I didn’t think it was correct. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 16th Jul 2020 7:48am)
  • This is actually a really interesting point; I wonder if it’s a manifestation of the [broken windows theory](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_windows_theory) by CraigJDuffy (Thu 16th Jul 2020 7:53am)
  • £200 a month in council tax for the bins to be emptied every 60 days? Wankers. They don’t even have proper recycling facilities! by CraigJDuffy (Thu 16th Jul 2020 7:55am)
  • *looks at full glass bin* Yeah... lack of demand. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 16th Jul 2020 8:01am)
  • This sucks. I’ve been taking our glass to a kerbside bin a few streets over but if you’re further out of the city then they probably don’t exist :/ by CraigJDuffy (Thu 16th Jul 2020 8:09am)
  • Aye that sounds like a good plan. I always think that ridiculous fines are untenable. I mean, what if you simply can’t pay it? Also, fines of any nature say one thing “it’s okay for the rich to do this but not the poor” by CraigJDuffy (Thu 16th Jul 2020 9:14am)
  • Hahaha! I see them occasionally to be fair. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 16th Jul 2020 9:12am)

  • Oh god, there is an app? by CraigJDuffy (Thu 16th Jul 2020 12:32pm)
  • Aye! That would work. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 16th Jul 2020 12:32pm)
  • Huh! Good to know it’s allowed. I thought it would be classed as fly tipping. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 16th Jul 2020 12:31pm)

  • Very interested in this too! by CraigJDuffy (Thu 16th Jul 2020 12:58pm)

  • To save the most you can, you’ll wanna look at as far outside of the city as you can deal with. You can get flats for under £300 a month and some rougher areas like Springburn though. Have you considered a tent in Kelvin grove park? by CraigJDuffy (Sat 18th Jul 2020 12:18pm)

  • The stair is not part of your property but is an unsecured shared area so unless your property includes insurance for storing the bike outside of your property then it won’t be included. It’s very common for people to go about with vans and steal bikes from stairs as it is so easy. Also, leaving bikes in the stair is usually against a tenancy agreement (usually not explicitly - not sure about mortgages) as it creates a fire evacuation hazard for those in the stair so it’s best to find another place to store it anyway. by CraigJDuffy (Sun 26th Jul 2020 10:03pm)
  • I’m 22, so might be a bit out your age bracket but I’m gonna stick a comment here incase anyone is interested. Always up for bouldering or top roping, would like to get into leading. Was climbing a 6C last time I was climbing regularly but that was a year or so ago by CraigJDuffy (Tue 28th Jul 2020 8:01pm)
  • Hopefully they close it and make it into a mixed used pedestrianised space. Glasgow is far too car focused as it is and time and time again we have seen that the solution to traffic isn’t to build more roads and car parks. To reduce congestion you need to have decent public transport, pedestrianised streets, and alternative modes of transport such as cycle lanes. Cars are destroying the planet. We must move to more sustainable means of transportation. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 30th Jul 2020 12:59pm)
  • Exactly. Even delivery cans should be limited to certain hours with bike boxes used instead for “last mile” deliveries by CraigJDuffy (Thu 30th Jul 2020 1:39pm)
  • Aye, wankers exist everywhere but there is a high concentration of middle aged wankers in Glasgow. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 30th Jul 2020 5:13pm)
  • Phone 101 put in a noise complaint, repeat every time it happens. It’s a bit of a pain in the arse but it’s the only realistic way to deal with it. You can also try [the council](https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/reportasb) by CraigJDuffy (Fri 31st Jul 2020 10:00am)
  • Worth mentioning you’ve attempted to resolve the matter by speaking to them but they got aggressive with you so you’re not “scared to go to their door incase it escalates into violence”. That will remove any suggestion from them that you should just speak to your neighbour / that they didn’t know you could hear their music. by CraigJDuffy (Fri 31st Jul 2020 10:08am)

  • In all seriousness a butcher who also specialised in meat alternatives like vegan Lorne would do a roaring trade I reckon. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 3rd Aug 2020 10:31am)
  • That’s true, it definitely would be nicer if it was at least entirely veggie. My partner is veggie and loves fully veggie places because they doesn’t have to worry that things are gonna secretly have meat in them. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 3rd Aug 2020 12:34pm)

  • Only valid within the same day though - it’s absolutely shite. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 28th Sep 2020 9:34pm)
  • You’re best getting an open return Glasgow Queen Street to Eskbank because it will be about £15 but be valid for a month. You can get off at Waverley and get back on at Waverley without ever going to Eskbank but it’ll save you money. ScotRail are robbing bastards by CraigJDuffy (Mon 28th Sep 2020 9:34pm)
  • You can get off at any point along the line and for Eskbank you have to change platform at Waverley anyway. If you had a ticket that went Edinburgh > Stirling > Glasgow and you had an hour layover at Stirling then you can leave the station. The barrier will just give you your ticket back. Not quite sure where you looked that up but on the ScotRail app an off-peak return (use within 1 month) is £18.8 vs £13.40 each way for a single from GLQ to EDI so if you cut it that way it is significantly cheaper. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 29th Sep 2020 6:59am)
  • You can pass it on to Child Protection Services and express it as a cause for concern for the health of the child and a failure of their duty of care as their parents to act in the best interests of the child’s health. However, as it stands it is perfectly legal to not vaccinate your children so I doubt much will get done about it. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 29th Sep 2020 1:30pm)
  • Arguably it is neglect. According to: https://www.childprotection.scot/abuse/neglect/ “Other signs of neglect might include health appointments being missed which can impact on a child’s development.” by CraigJDuffy (Tue 29th Sep 2020 2:44pm)

  • I know that DJ Alexander, ProBrook Properties, Touchstone, Little Johns, The Flat Company, A&S Properties all do because I’ve either been asked for one from them (in the last few years. Just graduated so I have moved a lot) or because friends have been. In fact, in my experience, I’ve never heard of anyone who doesn’t appear from student halls. But maybe I just got unlucky 🤷‍♀️ by CraigJDuffy (Thu 15th Oct 2020 7:27am)
  • I pretty much never tip, ever. We pay a wage in this country and I feel the more of a “tipping culture” we create the more businesses will take advantage of that and before you know it we will be in a situation like the states where people basically live off their tips. Arguably, this is already happening due to the way Uber structure their business. by CraigJDuffy (Sat 17th Oct 2020 5:41am)
  • A service I’ve paid for? Don’t get me wrong, if there is something exceptional (like a waiter who dealt with me having to reject an order when it arrives at the table) and they go beyond normal stuff then I might tip but otherwise I don’t tip people for doing their job. by CraigJDuffy (Sat 17th Oct 2020 10:38am)

  • Just out of curiosity. Do you reckon it would be best to go through the Safe Deposits Scotland dispute stuff before I go for the property ombudsman or do it as soon as possible? by CraigJDuffy (Tue 20th Oct 2020 7:33pm)
  • They gave me 6 months notice to be fair (the minimum) which means the day I would need to be out by is beyond the time where evictions aren’t allowed. They seem to be legit. There is a for sale sign outside it now but I will definitely be ensuring it. Thing is, I feel like I have to be a complete wanker now but I truly felt I was being reasonable throughout. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 20th Oct 2020 8:06pm)
  • They asked if a property evaluator could come to the property to which we agreed but then visiting restrictions were imposed the day before they were meant to come view it so we cancelled last minute. Bit of a pain but didn’t seem safe to us. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 20th Oct 2020 8:23pm)
  • This! We did the same thing but they refused to believe us as the check in inspectors word is final on cleanliness apparently. They PAT tested all the “landlords property” during our tenancy which included a number of items belonging to us . Incompetence all the way down. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 21st Oct 2020 9:48am)
  • Good thing the law doesn’t let you do that then 💁‍♀️ you have to meet the repairing standards for a reason and as a tenant I am perfectly entitled to hold you to that. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 21st Oct 2020 5:04pm)
  • Are you having similar issues? Wonder if enough people have had issues if we could club together with a complaint to the property ombudsman... by CraigJDuffy (Wed 21st Oct 2020 5:02pm)
  • Have the living rent union actually done anything though? I’ve seen stuff from them but no concrete movement in positive directions. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 21st Oct 2020 5:02pm)
  • Exactly this! Same thing is happening with us. We didn’t use their professional cleaning service as we are pretty good at cleaning and kept the place in “practically show home” condition (for example, we hoovered twice a day). We weren’t allowed to be present for the checkout inventory or at least we were not invited. Can you check what agent inspected the property / remember their name? They have provided photographs for us as well but I swear some of the things they have photographs of were not there when we left (marks on carpets etc) but don’t have any explicit proof. They have listed the property throughout as “clean to a professional standard” and are now wanting to charge me for cleaners due to an “error on the checkout inventory where it should not have said that”. The flat was an absolute state when we got it too and it’s definitely in better condition now than when we moved in. I’m willing to take it all the way I can. I suspect I am screwed with SDS due to the fact they have had the ability to go in and manufacture evidence creatively (taken super zoomed in photographs of the manky old oven when the inventory photograph is taken from about 2 meters away so obviously it looks worse). by CraigJDuffy (Wed 21st Oct 2020 5:01pm)
  • I’m currently gathering as much evidence as I can in order to support my case will definitely be submitting a complaint to the property ombudsman. Not sure if Anecdotal Reddit comments would support that but I’m sure willing to try 😅 by CraigJDuffy (Wed 21st Oct 2020 5:13pm)
  • Turns out they aren’t a member of the property ombudsman scheme (pretty sure they were when I signed up with them) so I can’t put a complaint there :/ will try find other stuff but it may have to go to the local council or something by CraigJDuffy (Wed 21st Oct 2020 5:16pm)
  • Fair play to them. All the fees I’ve been charged have always ended up as part of the deposit. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 21st Oct 2020 5:48pm)
  • If you’ll give me a mortgage with no deposit then I’ll happily buy 😂 I’ve only just started working in September since being at uni and I do not have enough money to do that. Both myself and my partner have help to buy ISAs which we put the maximum into each month but our combined income is only about £32,500 a year as they are still a student and our current rent is around £900 a month so the amount we can save is somewhat limited. by CraigJDuffy (Fri 23rd Oct 2020 10:14pm)
  • We are renting unfurnished properties, however, which does increase the quality of the property at the price we can afford and our new place is lovely but it is much more expensive than a mortgage. by CraigJDuffy (Fri 23rd Oct 2020 10:15pm)
  • I’ve already moved and unfortunately they can pursue you in court for unpaid rent or evict you. Evictions aren’t banned during COVID anymore they’re only banned if you can prove you’ve suffered financial hardship due to COVID which I did not. [generally it’s not an advised strategy ](https://scotland.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/advice_topics/paying_for_a_home/paying_rent/withholding_rent) by CraigJDuffy (Fri 23rd Oct 2020 11:04pm)
  • My first flat (student halls) was £540 per per person per month with shared facilities so £900 for a 2 bed, newly refurbished place with dishwasher etc is a fairly good deal in comparison 😅 Would it? Seems like that would only net a mortgage of around £200k and that’s with a £25k deposit. 1 bed flats round here can go for more than that 😅 by CraigJDuffy (Fri 23rd Oct 2020 11:07pm)

  • Virgin Media are the best for speed but the issue you’re having isn’t a problem with your internet provider but with your wireless access point not being able to make the signal reach far enough. This is likely to be an issue with any provider you have if they only give you 1 access point. What you want is a distributed mesh system like [so](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07WHMJ6XN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_kci2FbJ5RSMP6) to better spread the signal about your house. Alternatively, a couple WiFi [boosters](https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07ZWBBPQN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_dlT3_adi2FbTK1JV8Z) may help I think BT offer “whole home WiFi” that is essentially the same as that eero system but I don’t know about the cost of that. Virgin Media are definitely the fastest if you’re in a VM area. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 15th Dec 2020 9:25am)
  • They can be hit and miss. Depends a lot on the construction of your house. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 16th Dec 2020 12:10pm)
  • I’ve had the boosters work well when the signal is strong in one area but just can’t quite reach past something. For example, in my mums house you get excellent signal in the hall but nothing in the living room right next door due to the construction of the building. Booster in the hall sorted stuff right out and speeds are fine. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 16th Dec 2020 12:09pm)

It is time it is replaced with a fairer tax system that isn’t based on property prices in the 1990s. Why private rent tenants are responsible for a tax which is based on the value of owning the property they don’t own is beyond me also by CraigJDuffy (Fri 25th Dec 2020 12:00pm)

  • I am glad they are at least accepted there but given that those are where all the blue bin contents end up anyway it is mind boggling that they aren't accepted as part of household waste. by CraigJDuffy (Sat 26th Dec 2020 10:27pm)
  • This is ace! Thank you by CraigJDuffy (Sat 26th Dec 2020 10:25pm)
  • I would be interested to see a report on how much stuff is actually recycled. Our blue bins and green bins are collected by the same lorry so surely none of that can be recycled due to contamination by CraigJDuffy (Sun 27th Dec 2020 1:48am)

  • It’s a pretty big city so jobs are pretty easy in my experience. You should look for jobs at bookies - they are super easy jobs and popular with students. There are loads of pubs and restaurants so it should be fine. I wouldn’t expect normality anytime soon though. Glasgow has the most cases in Scotland. by CraigJDuffy (Fri 8th Jan 2021 8:47pm)

  • I mean, I can’t say I am surprised that taxis are doing enormous amounts of trade right now. If I was a taxi driver I would have jacked it in a while ago and applied for universal credit. by CraigJDuffy (Sat 9th Jan 2021 11:47am)
  • Amazon Flex and stuff definitely let you use your own vehicle. I fully support helping people who are struggling (I’m a strong supporter of a universal basic income) but I can’t help but feel that it’s quite short sighted of any taxi driver who is shocked by lack of income during a stay at home order. by CraigJDuffy (Sat 9th Jan 2021 11:59am)
  • Eh, it depends if it’s company owned or not. I know folk who own black cabs and use them for all sorts. Quite good for a small flitting. by CraigJDuffy (Sat 9th Jan 2021 12:02pm)

  • This will only be sorted by putting on your big boy pants and speaking to your neighbour about it. It’s highly unlikely they’re doing it out of malice, they probably do not realise you can hear it. Speak to your neighbour, document when you did and the outcome and then you’ll start to be able to build a case for them being antisocial. by CraigJDuffy (Sun 10th Jan 2021 4:07pm)

  • The issues you are describing is not a problem with the ISP (probably) it’s an issue with the router that they send you and ALL of them suck. Virgin are definitely the best for raw speed but you likely still have problems with signal in other rooms regardless of your ISP. The only real way to test if you’re happy with the speeds is via Ethernet or via WiFi in the same room. What I’d recommend is you go for the 100 mbps virgin package and also get a distributed mesh WiFi system such as eero or google nest WiFi : Introducing Amazon eero mesh Wi-Fi system | 3-pack https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07WHMJ6XN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_xzj.FbZWTMH83 One of these plug into the box virgin send you and you place the rest about your flat to repeat the signal. I can almost guarantee this will solve your broadband woes. I realise it is expensive but honestly it will be one of the best moves you make. I am more than happy to assist with investigating this and helping you find the right products for you so give me a shout if you like. There are cheaper options they just may not be quite as good. I did an undergrad degree in computer science and went insane in 2nd year of uni solving issues with rubbish WiFi in my 2 floor tenement flat so this is an issue that’s close to my heart 😂 by CraigJDuffy (Mon 11th Jan 2021 6:22pm)
  • Glad to have helped! Yeah you’re definitely being scammed there. If you can get virgin they are usually pretty good with being accurate with their speeds as they use their own dedicated service rather than BT phone lines. I’ve been with them for years and not had any complaints (but like a lot of ISPS Their customer service is shite). It’s unlikely you’d see much better speeds with BT or Sky as they all use the same line to your property. This being said, I’ve always found games consoles to be a bit weird with speed tests. Was it the PS built in speed test? This will give you the speeds to the PlayStation servers which may result in lower speeds being shown vs what you’d get with fast.com for example (it tests against Netflix servers). Don’t worry about PPOE - if you don’t know what it is you don’t need to worry about it. You could probably get away with 2 of them, yeah! If you find you need a third you can always add a third later as well. I’ve got friends who use the Google stuff and love it, also have friends who use the Eero stuff and love it. If you want help deciding feel free to drop me a message and we can discuss your specific needs and can have a hunt for some deals and stuff :-) or equally let me know here. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 11th Jan 2021 8:46pm)

  • The sheer amount of it tbh. I used to collect litter in my street but I usually had to call it a night at about the 45 minute mark. Eventually I used to call it at 3 bags which usually came in at about 2-3kg each and there was still loads of litter. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 12th Jan 2021 6:55pm)

Not the best time for that with the pandemic mind you but hopefully life will be back to normal (ish) by August. by CraigJDuffy (Fri 29th Jan 2021 3:15pm)
  • Aw fuck off with that shit. “To help encourage recycling we are collecting your bins less often” - the biggest thing preventing me recycling is the fact that 1. The recycling bins are always overflowing and 2. GCC don’t accept a massive amount of widely recycled products (yogurt pots for example). Routinely, I throw full bins full of recycling in the green bin because my blue bin is never collected. That’ll be where your 60% figure comes from. Fannies. by CraigJDuffy (Sat 30th Jan 2021 9:52am)

Why the hell they can’t collect them as part of regular household waste when the place they are taking it can deal with it is beyond me Yeah they removed our grey bins due to “contamination “ by CraigJDuffy (Sat 30th Jan 2021 12:40pm)

  • I’m on smarty and I can’t say I have any complaints - I have been with them for 2 years now and was with three for 10 years before that. I live on St George’s Road and service is a little spotty in some parts of my flat (due to the walls - happens on most networks) but it’s cracking outside. Currently sitting in the house I have 4 bars of 4G and I’m getting 35mbps. Not mental performance but not bad for indoors. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 15th Feb 2021 11:28am)

  • Remember that it should not be used to compare areas to each other. SIMD is an area-based measure of relative deprivation: not every person in a highly deprived area will themselves be experiencing high levels of deprivation. For example, I’m in a SIMD 20% area but would say I am quite comfortably middle class. But yeah for the area it’s probably pretty accurate. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 17th Feb 2021 9:55pm)
  • Unfortunately my experience with this is the absolute opposite of helpful. I tried phoning around a few looking for gluten free, and lactose free veggie dishes and was told by numerous ones “Yeah, I think that is gluten free. I mean, it only lists wheat as an allergen?” Eggs and Nuts should be somewhat easier - there is a great vegan Chinese called Lotus Vegetarian Cuisine who are pretty good at labelling allergens too but they are closed at the moment. by CraigJDuffy (Fri 19th Feb 2021 1:55pm)
  • Gluten free is pretty easy easy - gluten free and lactose free (basically has to be vegan) is a really tricky over lap but cheers! I will check them out. by CraigJDuffy (Fri 19th Feb 2021 2:26pm)

  • I’ve lived here for 2 years. Have seen some roasters on Maryhill road and there is occasional drug violence (dealers fighting / stabbing / shooting each other) but if you’re not involved withthat you should be fine. All and all, its a nice area and I’ve never had any trouble. Convenient links via the subway to the rest of the city. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 1st Mar 2021 12:53pm)
  • This would make a lot more sense - especially if the burden of paying the tax falls on the land owner. It’s mental that renters can get charged “council tax band E”‘prices because they have “very expensive properties” despite the fact they don’t bloody own it. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 1st Mar 2021 1:37pm)
  • I moved across the street (literally) from a run down ground floor student flat to a newly renovated top floor” professional flat” with a brand new kitchen, bathroom, and laminate flooring and it was two Council tax bands cheaper. Mental system. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 1st Mar 2021 1:56pm)
  • Sure, but that’s fine because you would know that up front. It would be less of a hidden cost. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 1st Mar 2021 2:41pm)
  • Wonder what the council tax band for the TARDIS is. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 1st Mar 2021 3:04pm)
  • That’s fine because this will be a known cost upfront not a hidden cost after moving in. Sure, it could be predicted via council tax band rates but I’ve never managed to accurately do this. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 1st Mar 2021 4:25pm)
  • That’s fine. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 2nd Mar 2021 7:03am)

  • Just paid £200 in council tax last night for March and Last month for February. Rip. Clearly I still pay it 😂 by CraigJDuffy (Tue 2nd Mar 2021 12:59pm)
  • I’ve never lived in a flat where I have been responsible for the council tax for a whole year due to dipping in and out of undergrad and postgrad studies so it’s quite possibly to do with that. New financial year I should finally get a whole years council tax bill for one address rather than 2 months here, 4 months exempt, 2 months at a new address etc. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 2nd Mar 2021 1:03pm)
  • Personally, I’d never pay more than the HR for a property but this may be why I’ll move outside of Glasgow. It’s probably being sucked up by overseas landlords wanting student lets. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 2nd Mar 2021 4:49pm)
  • Not if, when the market crashes. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 2nd Mar 2021 4:51pm)
  • Quite possibly - although a keen investor would realise that this is a temporary drop due to remote learning and invest while prices are lower by CraigJDuffy (Tue 2nd Mar 2021 6:05pm)
  • I just don’t see how prices can continue to rise while lots of people have lost their jobs etc. It might keep going for a while but it’s untenable in the long term. My hope, is that more social housing will be built which will disrupt the private rental market and then bring house prices crashing down And I’ll be voting for that in May. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 2nd Mar 2021 9:53pm)
  • Which services and what sorta accessibility? I’ve been with Monzo for years and think they’re the best bank around - starling are also pretty good. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 3rd Mar 2021 11:17am)
  • I’ve been with them since they were known as Mondo back in 2015 and legit have never had any issues. Perhaps use them as a second account for a bit and try them out? I’ve converted all my friends and family too and haven’t seen any issues but yeah - they take a beating on Twitter from time to time. Only place that’s ever frozen my money is PayPal. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 3rd Mar 2021 12:40pm)
  • You can get a PDF of a statement from the app and just print it? Or email it to the mortgage lender for them to print? Even my RBS Account doesn’t send paper statements anymore. Fair point on the cash front but I’d never, ever, in a million years pay for something that expensive in cash. Paying in cheques is super easy - just stick it in the post? (https://monzo.com/help/payments-getting-started/cheque-how-to-pay/) although I think Starling can do it from the app now. Only time I ever get cheques is when I get a refund from utility companies when I switch or whatever. Think I’ve had like 2 in the last 5 years. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 3rd Mar 2021 12:45pm)
  • Also the kinda person who just doesn’t shop anywhere that doesn’t take card 😂 by CraigJDuffy (Wed 3rd Mar 2021 12:57pm)
  • To be honest, if I was dealing with a company that didn’t accept PDFs then that would already be too much hassle and I would take my business elsewhere. Can’t image what else they will demand paper copies of such as signed documents etc. I am way closer to post boxes than any major bank branches but I guess if you pass them regularly. Never thought ya did! :-) I just find them so vastly more convenient than the old school way. Take the PDF example - I would much rather just print a statement off whenever I need it than go into town (when they’re open because of course they bloody close at 12:00 on a Saturday) and wait in a queue to then ask someone to print it to then go to the mortgage lender to wait to see them to give it to them vs PDF > Email - Done. Any other system than that is too much hassle haha. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 3rd Mar 2021 12:55pm)
  • Personally, I’d be for the demolishing of old buildings and replacing them with new energy efficient passive houses. Alternatively, serious renovation of them to include air source heat pumps, solar panels, and insulation. I’m sick fed up of cold, draughty, properties in Scotland. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 4th Mar 2021 11:08am)
  • You can design new buildings “in the style” of old ones but maybe use new materials rather than porous sandstones and instead of solid walls have cavity wall insulation. Thankfully, high quality insulation doubles up as excellent sound proofing. I am sat here in a room that’s 14.2 degrees in thermals and my flat was built in the 90s! by CraigJDuffy (Thu 4th Mar 2021 11:20am)
  • There are some parts of tenements which are simply not fit for purpose these days such as the often tiny bathrooms and kitchens. The energy efficiency benefit is mainly for making these homes nicer to live in rather then using less resource and energy overall for me. No reason why you can’t build tenement style buildings with modern materials. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 4th Mar 2021 11:54am)
  • None of the ones I have ever seen have been like that unfortunately. My last 2 had kitchens with 1 counter space, a space for an oven, and a space for a sink and bathroom where - if you stood in the middle you could touch all 4 walls. Both had no windows and horrible mould issues. Seems to be standard based on the ones I have seen for sale but I guess they must vary. They wouldn’t stand out if the rest were demolished :p by CraigJDuffy (Thu 4th Mar 2021 12:05pm)
  • Seems like the ones I have had are like that - absolutely correct that neither flat had any cupboards. The nice tenements are way out of my price range it would seem 😂 by CraigJDuffy (Thu 4th Mar 2021 12:23pm)
  • Honestly that’s the ideal. Any flat with a “newly fitted kitchen” I’m almost definitely not interested in because they’ve not installed a bloody dishwasher. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 4th Mar 2021 12:38pm)
  • Like any city water; shite. The rural areas are good but the city is rank. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 4th Mar 2021 4:49pm)

  • Litter is definitely the fault of the manky bastards that do it but still - no other city (in Scotland) has this bad an issue with it (that I have seen) so the council need to do something by CraigJDuffy (Fri 5th Mar 2021 5:53pm)

  • Aye, it’s a real shame but that’s why it’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Even when properly recycled it’s a pretty energy intensive process that is not that environmentally friendly by CraigJDuffy (Sat 6th Mar 2021 4:57pm)
  • If he is arriving from abroad he must by law self isolate in a hotel for the required period. No ifs, no buts to not do so is a criminal offence. I appreciate that things such as bank accounts need sorted but that should be able to happen in around May when restrictions have lifted a bit. Plenty time before September - try not stress and do as much remotely as possible :-) [All Info Here ](https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/) by CraigJDuffy (Sat 6th Mar 2021 5:56pm)
  • I’m afraid so, and the government won’t be particularly sympathetic as they advised against travel abroad over Christmas for this exact reason. It is possible that there may be an exception if he is registered as living here - he might be able to complete his self isolation at his registered home address rather than requiring the hotel but I really do not know if that is the case / who you would ask. [This website](https://www.theyworkforyou.com/msp/) will allow you to find out who your Member of the Scottish Parliament is who will probably be able to give you the best advice. Alternatively, [citizens advice ](https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/) may be able to provide advice on if this is possible. by CraigJDuffy (Sat 6th Mar 2021 6:09pm)
  • Not sure if that will change things but they will be in the best place to advise. Best of luck to you both! by CraigJDuffy (Sat 6th Mar 2021 6:13pm)

  • Outside Ibrox with the rest of the fans - you may not be able to view it but you can support it. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 8th Mar 2021 3:28pm)
  • Because people don’t gather in crowds to spectate restaurants. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 8th Mar 2021 3:26pm)
  • Because that hasn’t happened. It’s about cause and effect. Nothing inherent to football makes it need to be shut down - I agree. But the acts of the fans should have resulted in the action of preventing it as the fans can’t be trusted. If a restaurant had people gathered outside it in thousands eating I would agree with you but it simply doesn’t happen. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 8th Mar 2021 4:58pm)
  • Police absolutely have a lot to answer for as they stood around and did absolutely nothing. Ever since the football was allowed back fans have been ripping the piss and based on the crowds on Saturday they should have absolutely been prepared for it and weren’t. Football being an “important part of this city” does not make it more important than public health. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 8th Mar 2021 5:07pm)

  • While I agree there are bigger issues de-incentivising electric car purchases with moves like this is a bad move IMO. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 8th Apr 2021 1:03pm)
  • Yeah absolutely, but for the same price as an electric car I can afford to get a nicer petrol one which I can also afford to fuel? Why would I get a less well built electric car when I could get a nicer petrol one for the same price? The free charging was a nice incentive but now I have to pay to put fuel in both so the petrol one seems like a better deal. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 8th Apr 2021 1:00pm)

  • Yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing since Monday. I am used to the privilege of 2 showers a day ordinarily and after a few days I just really wanted something better. Kettles aren’t quick enough to fill a bath but I managed to find a 20L pot and used it alongside some kettles to get a baths worth. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 8th Apr 2021 9:14pm)

  • Had to move for work; moving away in a month and I can’t wait. Glad Glasgow became your home, sadly it was never mine. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 20th May 2021 7:23pm)
  • The weather, and the traffic mainly - spent most of my time living near the M8 and I am looking forward to being able to open my windows without black soot covering everything in my flat 😅 that and the noise. So many people shouting in the streets on a near daily basis and the road noise is ridiculous. Also, the only place I’ve been harassed in the street somewhat regularly by people out their face on drugs such as the two lovely gentlemen who surrounded me at the bus stop the other day asking if I had any cocaine. by CraigJDuffy (Thu 20th May 2021 9:50pm)

  • I’m a new-ish teacher so have been through the interview process for Glasgow and other councils recently. Officially, there is no issue with having tattoos which can’t be covered, however, in reality it comes down to whoever you end up getting interviewed by - if they don’t like it they will be able to find some way to not give you the job but this is true of any job. This being said, I do know colleagues who are tattoo’d but none with finger / face tattoos - most I have sense is full sleeves down to wrists and neck tattoos and they seemed to get on fine. Ultimately, the key for this will be your behaviour management - you are going to get kids asking about them nearly every lesson and they will try use it to lead you astray. If you can manage to deal with that and keep them on task then you’ll have no problem being a teacher. Remember, your 1st year after Uni is a guaranteed job at £27,498 (for now, rising slightly soon) so you have a year to prove that you can do it and you would be struggling to not find a job as a STEM teacher after that. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions - good luck! by CraigJDuffy (Tue 15th Jun 2021 6:24pm)
  • Ah, your logic is nothing for my neighbours. They place the bags next to empty bins because they can’t be bothered to lift the lid! by CraigJDuffy (Wed 23rd Jun 2021 11:59am)
  • Controversial take but if you leave bin bags by the bin you’re part of the problem - you produced that rubbish and it’s your responsibility to properly dispose of it. If your bin is full then either hold onto it, and store it yourself or find another way to dispose of it responsibly I.e other bin areas. Now, ideally your bin should be empty for you to do this, but what you’re advocating for here is that if a public bin is full you should just drop your litter on the ground rather than carrying it to the next bin. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 23rd Jun 2021 12:03pm)
  • In their flat until the bins are collected - making sure to fill out a missed bin notice with the council, or take it to another bin. It’s your rubbish, and your responsibility - my recycling has been overflowing for weeks now but instead of just dumping it by the bin I have been taking it to other bins / recycling points in walking distance. Has made me consider how much rubbish I produce. This all being said, it would be nice if the council did their job. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 23rd Jun 2021 12:06pm)
  • Yeah, it shouldn’t need to happen but there is an element of personal responsibility by CraigJDuffy (Wed 23rd Jun 2021 1:52pm)
  • Yes, because dumping it by the side of the bin is clearly working well. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 23rd Jun 2021 1:51pm)
  • There isn’t like set bins for set buildings though - or at least they’re not labelled as such. Makes sense to spread it our rather than litter it. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 23rd Jun 2021 7:18pm)
  • Absolutely - it’s the person producing the rubbish that’s responsible for its proper disposal which isn’t dumping it in the street. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 23rd Jun 2021 7:23pm)
  • I realise that bins are allocated based on buildings but like so what? Better than littering, as I say. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 23rd Jun 2021 8:12pm)

I take it at around 8pm so it does me over night. Worth buying an air purifier too - cool the room as much as you can before bed then close the windows and run the air purifier (with pollen filter) over night. If you usually have no issue sleeping on public transport and don’t mind a disturbed sleep (as they turn all the lights on at every stop) then you should be fine and IMO it’s the best value for money way to get there. • You’re legally allowed to access it, people live there and there are shops such as Lidl. It’s about as dangerous as any rough area of Glasgow - that is to say that you’re probably fine during the day in the streets but avoid any dodgy looking characters and be careful of drunken junkies at night. If you enter any of the buildings, it is trespassing and you could be charged with breaking and entering and other such things should the landlord find out (unlikely) and press charges. It’s not really an abandoned place, just a couple streets of flats which need demolished. by CraigJDuffy (Tue 27th Jul 2021 9:39am)

If you do end up going for one, get one from a high street shop like curry’s rather than online to reduce the risk it’ll catch fire - lots of cheap Chinese knockoffs. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 17th Jan 2022 6:00pm)

Lots of landlords in the UK live abroad and own lots of flats in the city (in Edinburgh 14 landlords own 5500 properties, my old landlord owns 14). They exist to pump you of as much money as they can get away with generally. Aim for the best energy efficiency you can get (C will be fine) but gas heating is essential. by CraigJDuffy (Mon 30th May 2022 7:23pm)

  • Yep, I live in social housing in new builds in Edinburgh and litter is a huge issue. People use their front garden as a bin just chucking bin bags out the door and leaving it, council don’t pick it up because it’s not in the bin so eventually animals rip it apart and scatter it down the street. They also park on the grass outside their house rather than the car park at their back door because “I want to be parked in front of my house not at the back”. I confronted a neighbour about the littering and she said “I can’t use the bins because they’re dirty and I might break my nails opening them. Also, I’m scared of rats” - manky bastards man. by CraigJDuffy (Wed 8th Mar 2023 7:37am)

  • Yeah absolutely, only reason I know it is because I’m currently learning to drive and my instructor got told off by the DVSA standards people who inspect driving instructors for “giving the wrong information” when a student asked him “do I always need to indicate?” and he answered “yes”. Admittedly it was a light heated “technically that’s not correct you know but I have to note it down” telling off but it is absolute madness. by CraigJDuffy (Sun 2nd Apr 2023 8:13am)

Yes, I’ve been on a waiting list for an ultrasound for a couple years now but I’ll get seen eventually. by CraigJDuffy (Fri 29th Sep 2023 3:44pm)
  • Yes, I agree with that and in those cases you should take legal action against your NHS board. My only point is that to say “most don’t” is still nonsense as while yes the NHS waiting lists are the longest they’ve been on record at around 8 million people ( https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/sep/14/record-number-people-waiting-start-routine-nhs-hospital-treatment-england) they are still seeing 1.6 million people every day (https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/projects/nhs-in-a-nutshell/NHS-activity) or around 570 million a year.
