  • I used to live in the city centre and enjoyed it at the time but it got to a point I was happy to leave. It isn’t for everyone and things have changed. I’ve since moved around and lived in Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire and finally settled in South Lanarkshire. It’s nice to have transport links to the city if needed, but be far enough away from it that things that you describe aren’t a big issue. There’s gonna be junkies and ness everywhere but I find Glasgow Centre to be bad for it these days. With working-from-home being the new normal I imagine a lot of folk may start moving out of the city and looking further afield. by PugMamma1990 (Sun 22nd Nov 2020 12:04pm)

  • Lol, the cliché line of "all new build are bad" is so odd. I'd love to hear what you propose, instead of building new houses? Shall folk just continue to live in existing housing stock while the population grows? Have multiple generations in the one house? Retain old properties that aren't eco friendly because they arent new? Madness. For info, I've lived in a 150 year old house, a 60 year old ex-council and a new build. New build is admittedly from a good builder*, but far exceeds the other two - rooms are huge, massive drive, big garden, cheap to heat.. ex council one was fine but terraced and tiny garden with only one toilet. Old property was a cold nightmare that required constant work. *I'd recommend Cala and Stewart Milne, and not recommend Persimmon or Barratt from personal experience and that of immediate F&F. by PugMamma1990 (Thu 24th Dec 2020 12:39am)

  • I’ve only been to Sainsbury’s and occasionally B&M and I’d say 99% of folk have a mask on. There’s the odd dafty with it under their nose, but overall everyone seems pretty compliant. I’m in South Lanarkshire. by PugMamma1990 (Wed 30th Dec 2020 4:23pm)
  • Not sure where you are based but when the restrictions are lifted I’d recommend Strathclyde Parkrun. It’s pretty flat and mostly on pavement, so you won’t get filthy, and the loch is lovely for a run. You could also do a loop of the loch itself. I think it’s around 6KM. by PugMamma1990 (Wed 30th Dec 2020 4:27pm)

  • I moved in to a new build in South Lanarkshire in the middle of summer and ordered my bins online two weeks before I moved in. They were delivered after a few days and the builder put them on my plot for me. Over the past few weeks I've seen the South Lanarkshire Council flatbed a few times with lots of bins loaded on to it, so they \*are\* still delivering AFAIK, although can't speak on the back log obv. If I were you I would find out who your local councillor is and email them and ask them to chase it up. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 18th Jan 2021 11:18am)

  • Adding to the comment above regarding public transport not being great, that may be the case for buses but not trains. Hamilton has three train stations, with trains every 15 minutes. by PugMamma1990 (Tue 26th Jan 2021 6:26pm)
  • The whole of Scotland is a mix of good and bad areas. I’ve lived everywhere around the central belt. The transport can be an issue depending on where you live. For example, EK is a huge town with a train station but unless you’re nearby you’re gonna be reliant on buses. The town is so big that you can be a fair distance (not really walkable) from it. There are nice flats next to Hairmyres and that area is a good area in general. Hamilton is a smaller town but still a large size, so similar situ with train station however there are three train stations in the town and the trains are very 15 mins (opposed to every 30-odd in East Kilbride). Living here now and enjoy it. Got plenty of shops, places to eat (both chain and independent (shout out to Cadzow Bakehouse and Ronzio which are amazing!), frequent trains, close to motorway and the parks and walks nearby are brilliant. Places like Strathaven are lovely but transport is AWFUL. Rutherglen is a closer to the city centre and benefits from being on a good train line (every 15 minutes). The high street/town centre leaves a lot to be desired but it has nice areas. South Lanarkshire overall has great green spaces and country parks. Excellent if you like the outdoors, walking, have a dog etc. I wouldn’t get too bogged down with other people’s opinions. I’ve lived in the city centre and the west end and wouldn’t go back as it just doesn’t suit my lifestyle and the kind of property I want nowadays, whereas I have friends who love it. Each to their own, weigh up what you want and find an area that matches it. Good luck! by PugMamma1990 (Thu 28th Jan 2021 10:49am)
  • No they aren’t. There are definitely different standards of builders. As the poster above me said, Cala is great, along with the likes of Robertson Homes, Stewart Milne and some of the smaller, local builders like Perella. Barrett are a bit and miss, as are Bellway, and I wouldn’t touch Persimmon with a barge pole. If you’re going for an old tenement and you seriously want to bid on it, it might be worth getting a second opinion from someone in that line of work. I have a friend with a very old tenement in the city centre and there’s massive structural issues arising due to its age, and all the home owners are arguing over what to do, pay, etc by PugMamma1990 (Thu 28th Jan 2021 5:19pm)

  • Strathclyde Park is flat. The route round the entire loch is a fair distance but there’s some areas to loop back or just stop and turn round so you can do a distance that suits. There’s normally an ice cream van and there’s a cafe so you could get a wee ice cream or a hot chocolate after too. by PugMamma1990 (Thu 4th Feb 2021 10:22pm)
  • Go to a smaller, more local estate agent and you’ll likely be able to agree a fixed price package. I recently sold my property and checked a few estate agents and all of the old fashioned high street ones (Allan & Harris, Slater Hogg) were 1-1.5% percent. When I approached a local estate agent they originally quoted me £900 and I managed to get it down to £550. I got home report value. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 8th Feb 2021 7:32am)
  • I’ve sat on more tech job boards than I care to remember. Myself and the other board members briefly skim the education section, it’s job experience and your cover letter that catches our eyes. In my previous place of employment the applications were anonymised so you weren’t able to see an applicants school/college/uni to avoid bias. Basically, don’t worry about getting a job based on the uni. Worry about getting good experience and being proactive so that you can sell yourself to an employer. by PugMamma1990 (Tue 9th Feb 2021 12:29am)

  • Scotland is full of places that have good areas and bad areas in close proximity. I don’t know anywhere that doesn’t have a decent area and a not as good one. This sub tends to only favour the west end and the southside but they are a very small part of the giant overall area that is greater Glasgow/surrounding. Paisley is absolutely fine. There are dodgy bits and some really nice bits (with houses worth £300k+, wonder if the flat renters of the ‘trendy’ areas still consider that too shit for them? LOL). SIMD is an ok tool to use to gauge an area, and I’d recommend you search and join a few local/area Facebook groups and you’ll get the vibe from there too. I lived in Renfrewshire for a bit so I’ll gladly answer any specific area questions if you private message me. Good luck! by PugMamma1990 (Fri 12th Feb 2021 11:12pm)

  • It’s a good tool but people tend to forget that it uses various different factors, such as access to transport and services, to calculate the score, and not solely income. It isn’t as simple as a case of rich v poor. by PugMamma1990 (Wed 17th Feb 2021 10:10pm)

  • I haven’t stayed in the student accommodation but wanted to comment that the area is fine. It’s across the road from the private high school and racecourse, has plenty of shops nearby, Bothwell Rd Park and Hamilton West station is a small walk. You could probably walk to Strathclyde County Park in 25-30 mins. Great for walks and jogging. The land nearby that was used for UWS before they moved is being turned in to a new private housing estate. I’m not sure when, but there’s approved planning permission on the South Lanarkshire Council website. by PugMamma1990 (Thu 25th Feb 2021 8:47pm)
  • Apparently there could be a hotel, shops and green/garden space as well as 345+ homes. Specific info from planning docs (HM/17/0488): **2** **Proposal(s)** 2.1 The applicants seek planning permission in principle for a mixed use development incorporating residential dwellings, hotel, office, care home, retail, restaurant/cafe, open space and associated works. Following the University of the West of Scotland’s (UWS) decision to relocate its Hamilton campus to the Hamilton International Technology Park, UWS and South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) have entered into a Joint Venture Agreement to secure the redevelopment of the former campus and adjacent land owned primarily by the Council. The following paragraphs explain generally what might be expected to come forward as matters specified in conditions applications and subsequent development comes forward over time should planning permission in principle be granted. \- Residential Development - the masterplan demonstrates scope for between 345 to 365 residential units and would contain dwellings of various types and tenures, of which a proportion would be affordable. The remainder would be a range of market housing for sale. \- Hotel - scope for the development of a hotel is proposed as part of the development mix. Due to the scale of the site and the local market it is likely that a hotel of between 60 to 80 bedrooms with ancillary facilities could come forward on the site. \- Office or Institutional Use - the Caird Building, located in the north-eastern corner of the site, constructed as part of the Hamilton campus in recent years totals approximately 5,000 square metres. The building could provide scope for office or continued institutional facilities. \- Retail/Cafe/Restaurant - a new public realm space would be created fronting onto Almada Street onto which there would be scope for a range of neighbourhood uses to complement the existing local facilities. \- Care Home/ Retirement Flats - it is understood that there is demand locally for retirement flats and or a 70 bed care home and the submitted Masterplan allows for such development to come forward as a further application. \- Access - the submitted Masterplan includes vehicular access points along all frontages, onto Beckford Street, Caird Street, Bothwell Road and Almada Street. A number of additional potential pedestrian/cycle access points have also been identified into the site. \- Open Space and Landscaping - the proposal includes the creation of a distinctive north-south linear green space at the heart of the new development. Inspired by the large parade grounds at the centre of the former barracks, this open space would provide structure to the new urban form connecting Almada Street with Caird Street. by PugMamma1990 (Fri 26th Feb 2021 8:31am)

  • Unfortunately the current situation isn’t limited to only the Southsise and the West End. I’m in South Lanarkshire and houses in Hamilton and EK are all going to closing dates and getting at least £15k over home report. My friends have been getting outbid on houses in both areas for two months straight - the latest one being £30k over a house with a HR of £295k! by PugMamma1990 (Mon 15th Mar 2021 8:24am)
  • They’re incredibly lucky! The market seems absolutely batshit crazy right now. I wonder when this will end? My friends are completely disheartened now and I think they’re about to pull the plug on the whole thing. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 15th Mar 2021 10:23am)
  • Yes you may be right - my friends are looking at 3/4 bed detached at £240k+, of which (looking at RightMove) there doesn’t seem to be a massive stock of. Larger houses seem to be flying off the shelf! The situation be a different for flats and cheaper properties as there seems to be a bit more of them available. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 15th Mar 2021 2:30pm)

  • To balance this out I just want to add that I currently live in a new build that a) isn’t tony, b) isn’t falling apart and c) wasn’t grossly overpriced. I’ve said it before - maybe there are tiny new builds out there, but I think this thing about new builds being tiny is largely an opinion of those who don’t live in one and/or are reminiscent of the shady new builds of 20 years ago that I’m told we’re a bid small and builders were doing anything to max. profit. Of course there are still dodgy builders out there but equally there are ones who aren’t. Second point on the cost - similar to above, I doubt doubt there are builders who do it but builders can’t get away with overcharging for houses. This is because mortgage lenders have an assessor visit and if the price has been inflated you won’t get your mortgage. Simple as. I know the more premium builders (Cala, Stewart Milne, Robertson) don’t do this, can’t speak on the likes of Persimmon etc. Older houses come with plenty cons too and as someone who has lived in a tenement flat, a house from the 50s/60s and now a new build I’d take the new build any day, providing it was from a good builder (as mentioned above). Eco friendly, intuitive layouts for modern day living (e.g. more than one toilet), most have driveways.. OP - if you do go down the new build route be careful about extras from the likes of Barratt and Persimmon, they would charge you for air if they could. I don’t agree with paying for all the extras etc but that’s when going to one of the premium builders is better as you get everything + houses are great. The cheaper builders are the ones you charge you for everything and anything. by PugMamma1990 (Sat 20th Mar 2021 9:28am)
  • Had onl an hour of them earlier in ML3/Hamilton, expected more and surprised as the idiots were at it for hours last time. Here’s hoping they’ve ran out of their stash by the time the next match comes around. by PugMamma1990 (Sun 21st Mar 2021 8:37pm)
  • £600 is a lot, probably more than a mortgage for a similar place. If you have savings have you considered skipping the renting phase and just buying? Building up some equity is definitely better in the long term than paying rent and possibly not being able to save whilst doing so. by PugMamma1990 (Sun 21st Mar 2021 8:47pm)
  • The SIMD isn’t a map of poor or crappy areas - it factors in all sorts of things, such as access to transport etc. An area may appear ‘less blue’ but it is not a worse area than somewhere that is dark blue. I wouldn’t pay it _too_ much attention as a whole, and instead use the aggregated data to drill down for specific things if that’s what you are _really_ interested in, e.g. geographic access domain rank. But there are better and more accurate ways to find out about an area tbh. As someone else has also said, you can find riches and then poverty within reach of each other. ‘Tis the Greater Glasgow/West of Scotland way. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 22nd Mar 2021 5:10pm)
  • No that’s totally understandable :-). I’ve lived in the city and now live on the outskirts of Hamilton and it’s very country-esque, so I can totally see the contrasts. Good luck with your search! by PugMamma1990 (Mon 22nd Mar 2021 6:03pm)
  • I agree with you. Having Oyster Card style universal ticketing will be great but that doesn’t help with the large towns and areas that are unserviced by rail and have lacklustre bus services thus rely on their cars. by PugMamma1990 (Tue 23rd Mar 2021 4:55pm)
  • I agree it is no quick fix however that doesn’t seem to be getting as much traction as the move to push people out of cars and penalise them for using them. by PugMamma1990 (Tue 23rd Mar 2021 8:31pm)
  • London’s rail (underground and over ground) and bus network is exceptional compared to ours. You only need to look at the Greater London area on Google Maps to see train stations and subway stops galore - do the same for the Greater Glasgow region and you’ll see the vast difference. E.g. once you leave the south side and get in to parts of Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire (with massive commuter towns) there’s areas complete unserved by rail (or if the town has a station its miles from some major housing estates), and some without even basic bus links (making it hard to get a bus somewhere or get a bus to aforementioned train station). by PugMamma1990 (Tue 23rd Mar 2021 9:15pm)
  • It kills me that Glasgow had trams years and years ago then got rid of them. Same with some train lines as well which you see if you look at how vast the rail network was before they closed a lot of lines and ripped up the tracks. One example is the Strathaven line, which would probably be well used now as Strathaven is growing in size, and the line went along the edge of Hamilton and High Blantyre which has seen a massive amount of expansion in recent years and has added thousands of residents. Damn the lack of foresight. by PugMamma1990 (Tue 23rd Mar 2021 9:26pm)

  • The local councils all have dedicated pages on their websites to report road faults. I understand the app for GCC is pretty decent. My own council (South Lanarkshire) has a decent enough website to do it so I’d others do as well. Instead of reporting all of them individually (if there’s a few on the one stretch) I’ve just logged one in the map but commented that they go along the whole road or whatever, and SLC have always fixed them. Hopefully GCC is the same way and it’ll save you logging tonnes of reports. by PugMamma1990 (Wed 24th Mar 2021 7:37pm)

  • I think it really depends on your budget and lifestyle. I stayed in the West End for tow years and it was good fun for what I wanted at the time, but things changed and I wanted space and to be a bit more out from the city so I’m now in South Lan. Maybe go on to RightMove and put in the budget and any housing needs (a flat? a housework garden?) and see what areas are in budget, as that’s likely to be your biggest deciding factor. • I wish the people on this thread would stop pushing the narrative about "good schools" and "bad schools". The league tables are nothing more than people with money = more likely to have the ability to get their kids tutors and a better socio-economic background. It's disgusting to, yet again, put another enagtice slant on areas that aren't deemed "wealthy". I don't have kids but I have several friends and relatives who teach (across the board of higher and lower ranked schools) and they too agree that these league tables donnothing but massage the egos of these parents and inflate house prices. There are some fantastic schools that don't rank high and it isn't the schools fault. Teachers work tirelessly. The worst thing we did was to create these tables that pit everyone against each other instead of focussing on important issues. OP, the East End had a lot off issues back in the day but it's becoming very gentrified and full of newer private housing estates. As others said, have a few visits at various times of the day and days of the week and join a few local Facebook groups (there may be one for the housing estate as well). Good luck. by PugMamma1990 (Wed 7th Apr 2021 1:18pm)
  • I did not at any point say that people should go out of their way to send their kids to a "bad school", however it isn't as cut as dry as X school is bad and Y school is good. There are over 300 schools on the league table, so where does the line sit that determines "good school" and "bad school"? That's a very basic view of something where the data and statistics are not as linear and don't have a "pass" or "fail" type ranking. Not that I would use this method but you can't even use the half-way point (168) as a marker for good or bad as the disparity between the too and the bottom to that middle point is not equal or even remotely in the middle ground. Example 1. Jordanhill School, Glasgow City (Grant Aided) (88) 2. Mearns Castle High School, East Renfrewshire (75) (added this as I know there's varying views about Jordanhill being on the list at all) 168. Kirkwall Grammar School, Orkney Islands (33) 336. Lochend Community High School, Glasgow City (9) by PugMamma1990 (Wed 7th Apr 2021 11:25pm)
  • The UK has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Europe, but it has been decreasing over the past few years. I doubt it relates to school rankings. I went to a mid-tier (going by the league table) school that sat in between a mix of expensive private estates, older bought ex-council houses and existing council schemes. There were three pregnancies in the 2 years I was there and no knife or drug problems. The three pregnancies did not affect my friends or I's education at all, and you're living in a fantasy land if you think your kids won't act like teenagers and have a sneaky underage drink - we all done it, but nobody touches drugs. In fact, the most drugs I ever saw when at parties at high school were ones my cousins (who all went to the private High School of Glasgow) went to. Being a spoiled brat goes hand in hand with thinking you're a Playboy at 17 in your parents big house. It's a bit extreme to think that the schools in Scotland are full of teenage girls up the duff and manic drug problems. Unless your friend lived in a very rundown area I'm gonna have to go with my thinking that they're grossly exaggerating. by PugMamma1990 (Wed 7th Apr 2021 11:38pm)

  • Setting up a social media page for the dog and using it to share cute pictures or like a blog is fine as long as there’s no identifiable information for where the owners live. It’s no different to folk who run car clubs or are in to that scene and have an Instagram page about their car, or any other hobby for that matter. The problem is these dafties have their own personal Facebook and Instagram public, but that’s not the issue here as it was a dodgy drug debt and that’s why they took the dog. Everyone has cottoned on to them and she’s out a post on her (very public) Facebook and Instagram saying she’s instructed GoFundMe to return the money. • You can get jumped anywhere. Was there not a rammy with teenagers in Rouken Glen a few weeks ago? And it’s an affluent area. I wouldn’t worry or not visit because of of it.. by PugMamma1990 (Sun 18th Apr 2021 8:56am)
  • There’s some nice areas (Lindsayfield, Stewartfield, Brancumhall, Hairmyres to name a few) that have nice new build type houses so there’s something for all budgets. There’s two train stations in EK and plenty buses if needed. The trains are every 30 mins and take about 35 mins to get in to the city centre. Easy enough to travel places from it as well as it’s near the A726/M77. Nice country park and plenty shops and restaurants. Alternatives nearby are Hamilton (which has some fancy housing estates at the back (Torheads, Brackenhill) near the green belt) and trains every 15 minutes, right next to M74 motorway and lots of nice parks and plenty shops and restaurants. Same goes for Ferniegair and Westcraigs. House prices for all of the above are reasonable but they have been rising and there’s a noticeable jump from when I first bought a few years ago and seems to be on the rise across a lot of South Lanarkshire. Happy for you to message me with any questions, I lived in EK for a year and currently in Hamilton. Have lived all around the central belt so might be able to help with other places, too. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 19th Apr 2021 12:10pm)

  • Agreed. Every town is facing issues with declining retail because of online shopping. Heck, even Glasgow City Centre isn’t what it once was.. I commented something similar to your last point a few months ago on another thread. There’s definitely some perplexing views on areas and lifestyles on this sub, absolutely not representative of Greater Glasgow and the Central Belt as a whole. by PugMamma1990 (Tue 20th Apr 2021 12:04am)
  • Chatelherault Country Park in Hamilton. Brilliant walks, cool things to see and some beautiful scenery. There’s Cadzow Castle ruins, the Dukes Bridge, the Ancient Oak Trees and the Duke of Hamilton's 18th century hunting lodge. Get the train from Glasgow Central to Larkhall and get off at Chatelherault Station which is right at the entrance to the park. by PugMamma1990 (Tue 20th Apr 2021 12:59am)
  • Robertson Homes are good builders, they’re definitely at the upper end of the scale, along with the likes of Cala and Stewart Milne. The area those new houses are in is being massively built up and between them, Cala and Bellway there’s gonna be hundreds of new homes added yearly for a good while (open maps and see the big area of grass between the end of Lindsayfield and Eaglesham Road? There). by PugMamma1990 (Wed 21st Apr 2021 11:47pm)
  • House fire in Wellesley Drive. by PugMamma1990 (Fri 23rd Apr 2021 8:34pm)
  • They’re both the same (I’ve lived in both). Good areas and bad, but both of the Robertson sites are in the nice parts and on the outskirts. The SIMD honestly isn’t worth the (virtual) paper it’s written on. It’s ok for some very niche analysis but it isn’t an indication of “rich v poor” or “good v bad” as the datasets factor in lots of variables that could push an area up or down. Your best bet is to speak to people who have lived somewhere and go visit a few times, say day and night across the week and weekends and get a vibe for an area. Happy to answer any Qs in a bit more detail or specifics, you can DM me if you want :-) by PugMamma1990 (Sun 25th Apr 2021 10:12am)
  • There’s currently a Sainsbury’s, a row of shops (with a barber) and the train station is a stones throw. From what I’ve read on it (I work in construction industry) there will be other amenities built to support it. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 26th Apr 2021 12:57pm)
  • It’s just the usual from this sub. All new houses = small and close together, apparently 🙄. Really odd as I’m sitting in my new build right now that’s massive, energy efficient and there’s at least a 4 cars width between my next door neighbour. I also have a very large front and back garden. Wouldn’t give this up to go back to a flat in my wildest dreams. Wonder how many of the folk making those comments live in flats (probably tenements) where you are literally sharing floors, walls and ceilings with a neighbour. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 26th Apr 2021 5:10pm)
  • It isn’t snide, it’s genuinely my experience. I have only ever experienced anti-new housing from folk who live in tenements. This includes friends of mine who live in ‘new’ but older flats, say 15-20+ years old, being met with rude comments from those in tenements. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 26th Apr 2021 9:23pm)
  • Flats in South Side are going for crazy money these days are they not? I’m sorta out of the loop with the South Side but a few years ago £120,000 wouldn’t have given you a lot of choice so I imagine it’s gotten even more expensive in recent years and combined with the current market. I do appreciate your point, but I commented as the OP here is referencing a suburban new build estate so not a West End/South Side/City Centre situation. These houses are all pretty big, although some have to be affordable, but folk making out £250k gets you a matchbox is laughable. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 26th Apr 2021 9:26pm)
  • Some are dodgy AF. I work in the industry and there’s a few builders I wouldn’t touch with a barge pole, however, they aren’t ALL like that and that’s the part that seems to get missed. We have a housing crisis so we need to built, and not all builders are bad. It just seems to be a bit ‘trendy’ to jump on certain bandwagons with little to no experience of something or no facts which is why some of the comments in this sub are a hard eye roll from me. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 26th Apr 2021 9:30pm)

  • Car is definitely still king in most of Scotland. In this specific case Dargavel Village is actually quite sensibly located as there’s a train station right at the start of the estate, same for some parts of Newton, but agree that a lot of the others don’t cater too much to leaving your car at home. The one I live in right now isn’t great for public transport but that’s a trade off with the semi-ruralness, and my job catering to a car commute. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 26th Apr 2021 9:55pm)

  • My sister and brother-in-law have been looking for the last 4 months in South Lanarkshire (mostly East Kilbride, Hamilton and Jackton) and have been outbid on every house they have went for. They’re looking at 3/4 bed detached and mostly newer build type houses. Price range from £220,000-£310,000 ish. The bids at closing date have been anywhere from £15,000-£35,000 over the home report. Normally (as in before coronavirus) it isn’t like that up here and you can get away with offering folk the hone report or a little over it. Coronavirus has really made the housing market go insane. Good luck with your search. by PugMamma1990 (Tue 11th May 2021 7:12pm)

  • There’s good and bad areas everywhere, so if you generally like living in the greater glasgow/central Scotland area and don’t want to leave I would suggest you move. You could look at some of south lanarkshire or renfrewshire? I’ve lived in a lot of areas across the central belt and never had any issues. My last three were west end, east kilbride and now I’m in hamilton. No issues with either and current area is a large private estate surrounded by fields with farm animals. In E.K I lived in a similar kind of area but more near the town centre and west end was a flat just off byres road (which although noisy there wasn’t any trouble). In the meantime you should notify the police and the local council noise complaints. This may improve the issue for you at least in the short term. by PugMamma1990 (Tue 18th May 2021 11:01am)

If you’re in to a certain hobby then look on Facebook or similar for a local group. If you’re in to exercising then there’s tonnes of running clubs and gyms in the greater Glasgow area so there’s sure to be something that takes your fancy. Exercising Will make you feel mentally better too. by PugMamma1990 (Wed 19th May 2021 7:23pm)

  • Outside of city centre slightly but a few good ones if you’re out and about are Bailey and Tibb (East Kilbride), Viano Interiors (Bothwell), Silverbirch and some of the other garden centres on the Clyde Valley route (Crossford), Sterling (Uddingston) and Interior 13 (Strathaven). • As someone else said it depends on the specific area. There’s a few bad bits, nice older bits and there’s lots of lovely new houses on the outskirts that are brilliant (I have a friend who stays in one at Greenhall). Like most places there’s a lot of new housing going up which brings money and more spending to the area. by PugMamma1990 (Mon 24th May 2021 6:50pm)

  • I went a few weeks ago and the food and cocktails were good but the service was atrocious. There was only one person working the whole front of house it seemed, the poor guy was having to run order, seat people and everything in between, so if you go be prepared for a bit of a wait. I’m not normally one that cares about service but it was over twenty minutes to get our bill and it was so slow getting stuff that we got less rounds than we fancied. by PugMamma1990 (Fri 25th Jun 2021 11:28am)
  • I posted yesterday about drop in vaccine clinics from 13:30-15:30 for Lanarkshire residents. This has been extended to 08:30-19:30 every day at Ravenscraig and Ally McCoist. NHS Lanarkshire posted this: With the continued rise in cases of covid-19 we have extended the opening times of our drop-in clinics at Ravenscraig and the Alistair McCoist Complex. From Saturday 26 June the drop-in clinics will be open from 8.30am to 7.30pm every day at both sites. The clinics are open for people over the age of 18 who haven’t had a first dose, and anyone who need their second dose and has waited 8 weeks or more since their first dose. If it is more convenient, you can cancel your booked appointment and attend a drop-in clinic. Vaccination protects yourself and others. If we want to continue on our road back to normality, then our best hope of achieving this is making sure we are all fully vaccinated. by PugMamma1990 (Fri 25th Jun 2021 12:59pm)

I’ve lived in the West End before and yeah it’s nice, but it isn’t for everyone and it isn’t the _only_ option. The Greater Glasgow area is huge and lots of areas have benefitted from gentrification and improvements over the years. I’ve have family and coworkers in EK and I’m not far (Hamilton) myself and I wouldn’t move back to the West End now, it doesn’t suit my needs or lifestyle. I’ve seen real poverty and the some of the most deprived areas in the UK. Seeing the privilege and naivety on this sub sometimes really makes me eye roll. by PugMamma1990 (Sat 25th Sep 2021 12:31am)
  • I got a free bag with my takeaway tonight in Hamilton but my sister in East Kilbride said her local has started asking customers to opt in/out as they’re running low. by PugMamma1990 (Sat 25th Sep 2021 12:53am)
  • Spot on. It is the exact same people as before. The media are partly to blame for the hype but Facebook dummies are the worst. by PugMamma1990 (Sat 25th Sep 2021 12:59am)
  • FWIW, a taxi from town to East Kilbride has always been £15-£17 for me. I’ve paid a few quid off that many times to get to my pals in the Southside after night out. by PugMamma1990 (Sat 25th Sep 2021 8:41am)
  • The issue was originally caused by a shortage of drivers at the company who drives the fuel tankers for BP and Esso-owned Tesco stations. It’s spread to the others due to idiots panic buying ‘cause of something their pal or the media shared on Facebook, as u/composer-cold said. by PugMamma1990 (Sat 25th Sep 2021 9:13am)
