  • You may not like it but for real, there are a plethora of mobile dealers there. You just message and they'll drop it to you. It's super easy. Make a throwaway account for it. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 5th May 2022 10:28am)
  • Been happening for a long time. Partick becoming 'west end' was the point it started accelerating. Kinning Park being priced out to fuck now, new flats go for a grand a month there, others having yearly increases. Govan is being targeted for gentrification as well, and my hometown of Pollok got hit hard when Silverburn went up and they started knocking down the flats for new builds for nice people with German cars to park in their new driveways. Also, fuck Scottish government and their 'regeneration' projects. It's not regen, it's gentrification. At least call it what it is. by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 9th May 2022 12:58pm)

  • I guarantee its more Cala or Lowther overpriced small shite. If anyone hasn't noticed, they pop up everywhere that is undergoing'regeneration' (which is the nice way of saying gentrification). We need social housing ffs. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 11th May 2022 5:08pm)
  • Wholesome post. If my wife was in UK I'd offer doubles! by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 11th May 2022 8:32pm)
  • My last downstairs neighbour was a full on junkie who would party for 3 and 4 straight days playing the same shite music on repeat and screaming his head off. I once got the guys out who take a decibel reading and they said it wasn't loud enough for a formal complaint and left. I ended up moving after he started screaming up about going to stab me and started rattling my door at 4am. Now my new downstairs neighbour has bought a subwoofer and I'm scared to go to his door cos he seems like a cunt. Why is it so hard to find neighbours that aren't loud pricks? by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 12th May 2022 10:34am)
  • Thanks for the link. Interesting view. From my observations here in Glasgow the 'gentrification building' isn't actually affordable. I know a few folk living in places like this and they are seeing rent and factor hikes each year. KP as an example are seeing building now being priced at literally 300k for a flat, admittedly about 80% of that value is location but in what world is that affordable? I'm seeing rents of 800 to 1000, again, not affordable. I have come to learn about MMR properties which is a nice idea to bridge the gap between council, association, and buying, however is very niche and limited, huge waiting lists and criteria to qualify. I'll be putting my name on a list to see what happens. The areas being regenerated as well speaks volumes. Gorbals. Partick. KP. Anderston. They're making inroads to Ibrox and Govan. Dunno about the east end. They're all very close to town locations, near the Clyde, and can have high rents slapped on them and use location as a justification. Nobody is building in the areas that need it, only where they can hike prices. I live in Paisley by choice as it's cheaper than Glasgow and there's some of these going up near the Piazza now, and I can't find how to get involved to see their rents, they're not listed anywhere even on the developers own site nor any HAs. I wanted to move back to Pollok however it's unaffordable now. Priced out. Also as a side note, private rents in general have shot up dramatically over the last year or two as well. A kind of acceptable 2 bed flat here used to run 400 to 500, now they're 700. Is there any social housing being built in Glasgow at all? Or is it all just this? by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 12th May 2022 12:21pm)

  • The average salary is something like 22k so you'll be fine 😂 by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 19th May 2022 12:06pm)
  • I agree. Most of us are being paid 18 to 23 grand and only getting rises when minimum wage goes up which is not a pay rise at the best of times. But It's still a below inflation raise which equals pay cut. No wage worker should accept a pay cut. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 19th May 2022 2:31pm)
  • And there you have the problem. Cluster fuck. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 19th May 2022 2:41pm)
  • Yes. Key indicators are rising homelessness, rising poverty in general and the working class stagnating on minimum wage as the average. by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 23rd May 2022 2:22pm)
  • In terms of raw salary you're looking at 50+ and even then the middle class moniker is about more than just salary. If I had 70k annual I'd still be a dirty prole from Pollok. Always will be. Too many people hit 35k and buy brand names and an Audi and start thinking they are middle class when they're just neds with a mortgage. Also my old work used to pay mid 20s 'lads' from London 70k to 100k for 3 days a week and they were just neds who could afford coke. That said, I get a special tickle from a fallen middle class person who has to live the life of the people they used to turn their noses up. by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 23rd May 2022 7:50pm)
  • I actually contacted Office if National Statistics to ask for the mode and they said it wasn't important. Median accounts for extreme outliers but it's a false average, the mode is, I reckon, somewhere in the 18 to 24 range and that is not too much these days. by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 23rd May 2022 7:55pm)

  • Someone who comes in and does the work of the strikers at a reduced rate, exploiting the lack of service during a strike and potentially even resulting in those striking having no job to come back to. Parasites basically. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 25th May 2022 8:17am)
  • Agree in sentiment but also when those new contracts need paid for it will drive prices up yet again, screwing those on even less money on another front. We are facing a potential fall into poverty for many people. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 25th May 2022 8:20am)
  • The money is there and I was very clearly not suggesting price increases. I just have no faith in government to do the right thing and I would expect to see increases as an offset. Nationalised public transport is a bare minimum expectation for me, along with the energy supply (lol). by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 25th May 2022 8:57am)
  • My sentiments exactly. I wasn't proposing price increases, I was only saying that it what I would expect to see happen. Nationalised public transport is a bare minimum for me from a supposedly left leaning government. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 25th May 2022 8:54am)
  • Oh no, is that not allowed? It is clarity, since people seem to be misunderstanding me that I am championing price rises. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 25th May 2022 9:34am)
  • I literally did not say that 😂 You just want to be combative. My comment said in paraphrase 'to pay those new contracts we may see price increases which negatively impact people with less money'. Tell me how that is "exactly" implying I champion price rises? Arsehole. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 25th May 2022 9:36am)

  • All my 33 years in Glasgow and honestly, I refer to it as a grey waste. Because it is. There are neds literally everywhere, they are unavoidable. On the bus minding your own business? Cheeky ned. At a bus stop? Junkie ned. We are the dirtiest city I've ever seen foot in, there is just trash everywhere. It's genuinely repulsive and I have no idea what we do about it. Huge fines? Great let's funnel more money from the poor folk into the police(!). There is dog shit everywhere. The 5 minute walk between my front door and the bus stop is a minefield. Just big shites every day, new fresh ones. Arrogance about how great we are but we are shite. The football. Seriously I fucking hate you all, just fuck off. Your bigot parade should be banned but never will be because the council is infested with the types who enjoy such a thing and you'll cry persecution on religious grounds but you're not religious, you're a cunt. Pre pandemic a 2 bed private let in my area could be found for 400. Now it's 700. I can't afford to move into a 2 bed with my wife. We are a junkie ridden shit hole with a complete lack of self awareness about just how fucking disgusting our city is. But we have funny patter so Glasgow's Miles Better™ I guess. I have no intention or living in this bin all my days but I fear emigration to somewhere less fucking miserable is s pipe dream. by ResidualBiscuit (Sun 29th May 2022 5:09am)

  • People live all over, but my point is that area is hoaching with Rangers bars, Union bunting all along that stretch of the PRW, that wee bit at Lorne and Harvie St with the Louden and the lodge on the other side of it is stinking when royal events are on as well, and of course anything Orange. Worked there long enough to know to book July 12th off every year for that exact reason 😂 by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 30th May 2022 12:59am)
  • Basically this. I'm under no illusions that I need to find some sort of career and save to move. It's just so fucking dreary here. I can't imagine living here for 50 years. My wife thinks Lisbon or Barca but fuck me that's a big ask! by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 30th May 2022 8:41am)
  • That's pure Jesus flavoured peado behaviour. Should have stuck the nut in her. Did they have a guaranga badge by any chance? For real though that's dodgy as fuck. There's now a looney out there who has a picture of you, knows what area you may appear in, and presumably knows if you are married or not and thus has an idea if you live alone or not. Keep the edgy for suspicious vans. Make sure you weren't 'marked' by her in any way on your person. If you can, change your route or routine to not be there again. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 1st Jun 2022 7:25pm)
  • Dirty wee tadger, glad to hear this by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 1st Jun 2022 9:10pm)
  • This initially sounded like you're asking for a wedding band for a black man, as opposed to a black ring for a man. Don't get ripped off, the nicest black ring I own cost £20 off Amazon. It's also not a wedding band. Neither my wife nor I wear a wedding ring. Instead we have small ornate tattoos on the ring finger. Accumulatively a fraction of the price people pay for a single wedding ring. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 2nd Jun 2022 8:52pm)
  • Most people would abandon them as soon as we were independent. They are a vehicle. Not a destination. Also the sad fact is out of the realistic election winners, they still perform better than the other 2. That's more shame the system than a pat on the back for them, though. PS I don't support them, I'm just not stupid. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 17th Jun 2022 1:20am)
  • Labour or Tories. Nuff said. I voted SNP in 2014. Never at any other time. What would you suggest? by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 17th Jun 2022 7:59am)
  • Yep. Wish more people would wake up from this 'gotta keep X out' nonsense. I'd have my vote behind TUSC or similar. But nah. Choose your flavour of hegemonic capitalist parasite. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 17th Jun 2022 8:29am)
  • Confirmed. Per year. Next highest is £669 for a knife dealer for 3 years. Such progressive. Wonder how long until Glasgow follows Edinburgh in stamping out strip clubs and thus the livelihoods that come with them. by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 20th Jun 2022 11:04am)
  • Honestly everyone just uses Bondara and LH and similar. There is only one I know of in Glasgow. The licensing fees for sex shops are orders of magnitude above everything else in Glasgow (13k a year, shit you not). I expect GCC will stamp out the clubs as well eventually similar to Edinburgh. https://glasgow.gov.uk/CHttpHandler.ashx?id=8747&p=0 by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 20th Jun 2022 11:18am)
  • Maybe you should talk to the people who work there. The dancers. They probably make more than you. Its also a good platform to support other interests like modelling and SW. People choose this work. It is their choice. Not yours to say it isn't good work. Are you are suggesting that you agree to effectively ban this work and industry? The people who work there are exclusively from working class backgrounds. To shutter it is to stomp on the means of working class people to earn good money. Know what isn't well paid enough for how shitty it is? Almost everything else. Office workers. Street cleaners. Bin men. Retail workers. Call centre staff. But hey those are 'real' jobs, eh? by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 20th Jun 2022 1:05pm)

  • I love how the idea of 'market value ' goes out the window with housing. Valued at 100k? Fuck you, pay me 150k. I am 33 and can't escape min wage. I'll never own even a decent wee flat. This city is gentrification central and the housing market just gets worse and worse. Even renting is becoming problematic. My genuine fear is that we will end up like USA where roomates on full time jobs are the norm. Its cool though I've got 4k in my H2B 😅 RIP by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 22nd Jun 2022 10:17am)
  • I feel you. I am 33 now and have few friends. Once I hit the early 20s everyone started having kids etc so I've been frustrated with this for many years. 2 of my closest friends I met in the middle of a game of Overwatch on PS actually. I'm always thinking I'd like to get out and do more activities but don't have anyone who wants to do that. I'm also poor. I'm happy to have a chat and see if there is any cross over in the games we play etc so feel free to DM me. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 23rd Jun 2022 3:28pm)

An example of this was years ago I was in having a can of coke at a sports bar watching a Euro 2012 game and got kicked out for being too drunk, bouncer citing "you've had too much". I was sober and not drinking alcohol. He just wanted to be a cunt. by ResidualBiscuit (Tue 28th Jun 2022 6:24pm)

Whereas you could see 1 beds for 300/350 and 2 beds for 400/450 that is no longer the case as the cheapest 2 bed I've seen is 700/madness and was a shit hole. I was planning to move to a bigger place before winter but that doesn't look possible with these prices. by ResidualBiscuit (Sun 3rd Jul 2022 5:22pm)

  • Maybe because arsehole drivers driving up the back of them are more of a hazard than the people walking at ~5mph. Maybe also if an accident happens between a cyclist and a pedestrian its usually barely an issue whereas cars are 2 tonnes of steel and if an accident happens between a cyclist and a car, death isn't off the table, especially when drivers are very open about their absolute disdain for cyclists and you cut about brake checking each other out of childish spite. I'll keep cycling on pavements where I have control of the situation thanks, until such times as this backwards country catches up to other places and implements proper cycle lanes. Am I fuck putting my life in the hands of the fucking wanks cutting about our roads. You can sit there and seethe about it all you want and moan about being 'feart', it'll likely be you who causes the accident from getting raging and impatient by the sounds of it. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 13th Jul 2022 10:50am)

  • To buy the houses we can't afford and rent them back to us 🥲 /s by ResidualBiscuit (Tue 19th Jul 2022 10:12am)
  • I won't subsidise wages for stingey employers. Just look at the States with their tipping culture, that's what happens when the customer 'just being nice' becomes a social pressure. If you think business here wouldn't go the same way then you're cracked. If my lack of paying more than the value total of my purchase is a problem then I accept that. I pay the billed price because that is the price I agreed to foe the goods I've purchased. The 'services' part of 'goods and services' is the employers responsibility and they can factor it into their prices. Although I'd prefer others took the same stance and refused to tip ans thus hopefully contribute to demand for higher pay for those workers and force strikes and resignations. If you're relying on tips then you're likely being heavily underpaid (as most of us are tbh, shocking wages in UK). You also have to ask where it stops with tips. Whp do ypubdecide to tip, what is thr metric or qualifier? Drivers? Barbers? Bartenders? All accepted, but not fast food workers. Not tattoo artists. Do you tip a masseur? What about a self employed tradie who probably makes twice what you do? The guy at the burger van? Barista? You'll tip the guy dropping your bhuna but not the guy bringing your Asda order or the Amazon driver. Moreover, do what you feel. Just don't be snide to people who don't want to. I personally don't tip anyone unless they give me a solid reason to, and I pay electronically for everything. In the rare event I use cash I round up to the nearest sensible number whether that means it's 12p or 1.30 difference. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 20th Jul 2022 1:45am)
  • I've worked in restaurants in Glasgow for a decade and this has never been the case. The front of house staff get the same or a nominally lower hourly rate than back of house (pennies difference) and FoH either keep their individual tips or pool them amongst themselves while BoH get fuck all. I worked at one tapas place where it was voluntary to pool all and share with all on shift but few did. Most I ended the night with was 2 quid and change while FoH can clear 50 quid in smash a night and into triple digits on weekends. Also, sharing their tips in the way you describe still isn't 'charging them'. They're still being paid their agreed salary, tips are a gratuity, and in your example are only sharing a % of that. They are not losing money, they are simply making less of it than they could. Your wording implies they are outright hemorrhaging money. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 20th Jul 2022 1:54am)
  • You seem to be taking my response as a direct reply to you personally, which it is not. It is my generalised thoughts on tipping and any reference to 'you' is just to say 'people' in general. Perhaps I could have worded it better to this effect. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 20th Jul 2022 1:58am)
  • Dive. Worst area in the city for me. That said its location will inevitably lead to gentrification. If you can afford to buy then you can make a lot of money down the line on a sale. Downside is you would have to live there a while. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 20th Jul 2022 4:35pm)

  • >gentrification implies replacing lower income or lower status with higher. That's not what's happening, It very much is. The bigger issue is that it isn't _just_ that. As you said, there is a more profound element to this new kind of gentrification that we don't really understand yet nor the implications of. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 20th Jul 2022 7:07pm)
  • Overall glasgow is undergoing heavy gentrification. Just look at all the Cala and Lowther developments pricing people out of their own neighbourhoods. It I can only speak to the West and South sides mind. This is why it is called 'up and coming' and its exactly why nobody can afford to buy. Call it what you want but our government are allowing and facilitating this to happen while refusing to build social. Give it a few more years and itl be MMR and buy-to-let central. Oh, and fuck the Airbnbs. My issue with gentrification started with Silverburn and watching the prices get out of control in my own backyard, watching everyone I knew be forced to move and replaced with wannabe middle class. KP is getting it (300k for a flat), Partick got it, it has started in certain areas on the edges of Ibrox and Govan. The 'nice bit' of Govanhill is getting it. Shawlands will be treated like West End lite (Battlefield and Cathcart are seen as desirable areas as a substitute for not affording thr actual West End). by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 20th Jul 2022 7:06pm)
  • What do you think gentrification is? The biggest tell isn't retail. Its housing. And when people talk of gentrification, that is what they're primarily referring to. It's not a debate. It's happening. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 20th Jul 2022 7:51pm)

  • I guess technically a sunken ship is steady by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 21st Jul 2022 5:47pm)
  • See I would agree with that on basis that it is what happens with accents generally, they're mish mash and people pick up things from elsewhere. The reason I'm not fully agreeing is that I personally know people who have never lived outside Glasgow who have adopted this accent. Including a member of my own family who grew up alongside me in Pollok. Almost everyone I've personally known to have this accent either always had it and came from a more 'middle class' background, or they suddenly gained it when they went to uni. Some people, I believe, view the Glasgow accent as a generalised sound, to be indicative of lower standing (lower class) and thus they distance themselves from it by adopting a twang whereby people might think they're one of the nice Scots from Edinburgh or similar. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 21st Jul 2022 6:41pm)

Its heaving busy with wee teenagers who stand in your way and PTs more into themselves than clients but for 13 quid a month it's well equipped and 24/7. Always have a backup workout planned depending on level of wee bam congestion you encounter. • You need leave to remain and or an appropriate visa. You can't just move here and get a job, that's not how migration works. I've just paid out 4k to have my wife apply for a visa to join me here. She is Russian. Canadian will be far easier but you will likely need to return to Canada to gather the appropriate documents and then apply from there (you must apply from a country you have legal residence). You cannot apply from UK. You must leave before your visa free period ends or you will likely be denied in the future. Get an immigration solicitor on your case. I used a firm called Five Star who charged £750 (half up front, half when submitted). I was quoted thousands by others. My case was intricate and urgent given the geopolitical climate and I can't fault the help I got. Get your partner to contract them and she will act as the point of contact for your application, which is what I did. Cc everything. The amount you pay and are asked to provide depends on the visa you need but I will say that it blew my mind how much was required. Documents and translations etc cost a further 2k for us. I hope your case will be significantly easier and cheaper. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 27th Jul 2022 2:47am)
  • I checked this recently having got an email.about a change. I se tell reference number from.older emails and it says they still hold it. Go to SDS website > I'm a tenant > Is my deposit protected Deposit Account Number (search your emails), paste it in. It should confirm. If all else fails that DAN number is your proof. It isn't you who makes the deposit with them so no matter what you should be covered. PS I've tried to get a deposit back from them once and they sided with the landlord who took pics of my place before I had moved out and said I left it in a state (pics dated a week before I left etc). They gave me 20 quid back. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 27th Jul 2022 1:10pm)

  • I'm (a young) 33. It's not so much that I feel too old for it, I can still dance away and drink and stay up to stupid o'clock. It's just the crowd. They're all so young that I feel weird around them. If I do go to a club it's Cathouse and there are older folk there too admittedly, but I prefer just a bar then home where we can control the music and ambience. I miss the proper nights out sometimes though. If there was a cheeseball 80s club I'd be *all* over that shit. by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 1st Aug 2022 1:08am)

  • I feel the same. It isn't even just Glasgow. I lurk on r/ukjobs amd stuff as well and they're all chatting about their 70k salaries like it's nothing. Seeipsupy have a peek, 40k must be the aversge salary discussed there. How? Wit they doing? Theyre cagey as fuck about sharing as well like sone weird kind of gatekeeping. Specific to Glasgow I think a lot of the lurkers on reddit aren't exactly from working class backgrounds but pretend otherwise. I personally know folk who work shit <25k jobs just like me (I'm min wage @ 33yo, yeehaa) yet they're buying a new motor or going on their 3rd holiday this year? Talk pish. I think way more people get money from family than admit it. I worked with a guy same job tenner an hour yet he bought a new Merc and owned 4 buy to let? Arsehole. Honestly I have always been poor. I feel more and more poor with each passing month. Low wages. High costs. Increased everything and more scheduled yet get kb'd for every job I go for but then I see what other cunts are doing and it makes me want to take a dip in the Clyde. It makes no sense to me and I honestly dunno what then utter fuck to do about it. All this house buying pish, magically conjuring up tens of thousands and the means to pay it back, I cannae even afford to move to another rental cos prices have shot up a couple hundred a month. I treated myself to a 12 quid takeaway for the first time in ages and felt like scumbag of the century for doing so. That's a bit of a vent. Sorry. Basically, aye, I get ye, and aye, its fucked. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 4:06pm)
  • The short answer is they won't. They'll lose their homes and then they'll be bought at basement prices and resold for huge profits a few years down the line. We've seen it before. I personally rent a flat with effectively no insulation and sash windows and hardwood floors so I expect to join them or to die of hypothermia come winter. What we are seeing isn't a crisis, its deliberate. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 4:22pm)
  • At a consevwtive estimate I'd just go ahead and assume it'll double. I'm a 1 bed flat living alone paying usually 100 a month. I'm expecting it to double by January. I don't even use the gas. At all. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 4:25pm)
  • Admin. It was meant to be a covid job but everything else pays shite too. I'm looking into learning some form of coding because every time I have this conversation with older folk who transition it always seems to be programming of some sort accompanied by substantial salaries. What did you transition to? This 2nd part is obvious. I thought I could work my way up when I had a civil service job or when i worked in banking but got laid off every time. But see when you work 50 hours and spend 12 to 15 a week commuting and are absolutely fucking miserable with life, kinda nae fuel in the tank to get started on something new eh 😅 by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 11:35pm)
  • Living in the city centre is genuinely a fantasy unless you're buying one of those ridiculous 250k tiny flats down Finnieston way and are at least 5 floors up. Same as folk fantasising about living in the west end only to realise it costs a grand a month, is loud as fuck, they can't afford the amenities there but at least they can tell people they live near KG. I live in Paisley and rents here re becoming a joke too. Could find a 2 bed for 400/450 but now it's easily 650. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 4th Aug 2022 3:57pm)
  • I'm 345. It's okay but winters are BRUTAL (single pane sah windows, hardwood floors, no central heating only an ancient as fire). Honestly I can't afford more than about 450 a month at the very most and even then I'm not sure about that. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 4th Aug 2022 6:11pm)
  • I meant my rent is 345. I live in the Seedhill area though I previously had 2 flats along Causeyside which were absolute pits. This current place is better and quieter overall but still, it seems like a luxury to have double galzing as I've never had it nor central heating. Winters are really bad here (legit can be warmer outside somehow) and with the prices for fuel...I'm not confident at all. I don't have damp in this one but without the luxury of a window in the bathroom I do have persistent mold that I've all but given up on dealing with at this point. My last 2 places were plagues by having junkie neighbours. The first one I'm sure was a dealers old flat as jagbags kept trying to break in and asking for people etc. I wanted to move before winter but its impossible. I can't afford somewhere that won't have the same issues, this is the standard. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 4th Aug 2022 7:00pm)
  • All the flats around me have it. Council and housing assertion flats all have it. Privates just don't because they're cheap nasty cunts. 3 flats, no double glazing, central heating or bathroom window in any of them. These things are genuinely bare minimum considering it is west of Scotland. I don't even think I can pressure them to upgrade since I've had recommendations to replace the boiler 3 years in a row and they just don't do it. I should have moved pre covid when I was considering it, prices were much lower. I feel like I'm now trapped. I make min wage, I'm going nowhere. Legitimately scared of how winter is gonna go. I'm either gonna be broke as fuck or borderline freezing to death. Yas. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 4th Aug 2022 7:32pm)
  • Appreciate the recommendations. My partner will be moving to Scotland in the coming months so there is no value in me moving solo. The plan is to somehow survive the winter and find a reasonable 2 bed for us after. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 4th Aug 2022 8:14pm)
  • Did you not see the city centre during the locks? Junkies are everywhere now. Glasgow is a fucking bin of a city. And arseholes in government don't wanna do anything about it, no preventative measures, no rehabilitation, just methadone and enabling. It'll only get worse. More junkies. More homeless. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 4th Aug 2022 10:12pm)

  • Any recommendations on window film? I actually think I'll use duct tape (possibly even silicone) and seal all but one of my windows. Even full closed a sash window is still never actually closed. Wish I could afford proper thick curtains but it's a big bay window I have so its not an option. I'm also gonna get a can of that expanding foam and try to fill under the skirting boards and such by ResidualBiscuit (Sat 6th Aug 2022 11:57pm)
  • Yeah it's a nightmare. How can properties be legally acceptable in this standard considering west of Scotland is a cold windy fucking mess? And of course landlords have zero interest in upgrading anything even if it increases their value. I'd honestly agree to a 50/mth rent increase if he got my windows done. Pays for itself. by ResidualBiscuit (Sun 7th Aug 2022 1:37am)

  • If you think 200k is affordable you live in looney land. Save for 10% deposit plus probably 10k over HR. Would love to see your budget to do this on min wage. It is _really_ simple. The concept of affordable housing means it is accessible to any single full time empyed person. That means 1 person on min wage should be able to buy a home. Not a big home. A wee flat. I'd love to see your budget you think you could accomplish this on. Delusional. P,S. 18k is unlivable these days. Breadline wage. Dunno if you noticed. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 11th Aug 2022 12:12pm)

  • McGills buses. I wait on average 1 hour for the bus, at rush hour. I leave work some days and don't even see one until 7pm, that's not including the days they just drive by, even when there is visibly space. The other day I watched not one but two McGills 26 drive by a guy who was trying to flag them down, there was about 5 people on board each of them. The worst of it, their app tracker still shows the due buses which which just don't appear. One due in 5 mins? Nope. 12 mins? Lol. On average about 4 scheduled buses just don't exist. My commute is 6km, its a straight road, I get on and off on PRW, and I spend on average 15 hours a week commuting. My commute to my job _is_ a part time job in terms of hours. • Demonstrably incorrect and not even subtly so. [climate.gov](https://www.climate.gov/news-features/understanding-climate/climate-change-global-temperature#:~:text=Earth's%20temperature%20has%20risen%20by,based%20on%20NOAA's%20temperature%20data.) Earth’s temperature has risen by 0.14° Fahrenheit (0.08° Celsius) per decade since 1880, but the rate of warming since 1981 is more than twice that: 0.32° F (0.18° C) per decade. 2021 was the sixth-warmest year on record based on NOAA’s temperature data. Averaged across land and ocean, the 2021 surface temperature was 1.51 °F (0.84 °Celsius) warmer than the twentieth-century average of 57.0 °F (13.9 °C) and 1.87 ˚F (1.04 ˚C) warmer than the pre-industrial period (1880-1900). The nine years from 2013 through 2021 rank among the 10 warmest years on record. Given the tremendous size and heat capacity of the global oceans, it takes a massive amount of heat energy to raise Earth’s average yearly surface temperature even a small amount. The roughly 2-degree Fahrenheit (1 degrees Celsius) increase in global average surface temperature that has occurred since the pre-industrial era (1880-1900) might seem small, but it means a significant increase in accumulated heat. That extra heat is driving regional and seasonal temperature extremes, reducing snow cover and sea ice, intensifying heavy rainfall, and changing habitat ranges for plants and animals—expanding some and shrinking others. As the map below shows, most land areas have warmed faster than most ocean areas, and the Arctic is warming faster than most other regions. by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 15th Aug 2022 5:28pm)

I won't feel comfortable until I have 30k tbh. I need about 23k to offset the increase. That'll go up by another 2k by the end of the year. That's 25k to be where I was a year ago in terms of ratio. Another 5k would give me a buffer in which I'd say I'm not worried. But, that will quickly change because in case you hadn't noticed, coats only ever go up. Never down. by ResidualBiscuit (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 1:30pm)
  • >that income would be doable It isn't. That's my income. Single. Low cost area. No kids. No car. Don't smoke. No subscriptions. One more COL increase and I'll be in trouble. When winter comes, I genuinely worry I may not live through it dud to low cost uninsulated housing and unaffordable gas. Frankly you're out of touch by asserting that is doable. It was doable a year ago. Now it's breadline and in 6 more months will be below it. by ResidualBiscuit (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 1:40pm)

  • Yes. To oppose industrial action is to choose sides with the likes of pinkertons, barons, lords, Tories, and all manners of the lowest of society. Industial action is what won us minimum wage, weekends, a whole plethora of other things. They are never given. The wealthy are not kind, they are cruel and greedy, they understand only direct action. Dry your tears of your short term inconvenience and see the big picture. We don't have a damn thing through grace, only through action. The media can try and demonise unions as much as they want. They'll always have public support. They always have. They're not mad about the results of the strikes, they're mad about the threat of class consciousness. by ResidualBiscuit (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 7:17pm)

  • Was thinking about the expanding foam for under the skirting, seems to easiest option, just fucking skoosh it under and hope its all fine. 350, 1 bed, Paisley. Ancient building obviously, probably 1930s, not sure. I've got one of they wee horrible brown gas fires, prime 70s chic. Every comparable property is like 450 or 500 now. If I moved out I am sure they'd hoof the rent up for the next person to meet the market. by ResidualBiscuit (Sat 27th Aug 2022 7:34pm)

  • Okay definitely not going with that plan then, fucking hell! by ResidualBiscuit (Sat 27th Aug 2022 9:06pm)
  • No heating at all? If that's a rental you're definitely in a position to challenge that legally, surely. I'll definitely look into the blankets. The wee gas fire heats the living room well but it dissipates very fast and every other room has shite radiators that may as well not be there. by ResidualBiscuit (Sat 27th Aug 2022 9:05pm)
  • >If you do feel there is problems with windows you can only ask them to look at it but I can’t see you getting anywhere- good luck. Nah they're shite. Windows and landlord. There is constant draught, even when tightly screwed shut the curtains move about. Don't think there is any requirement for them to be 'airtight' or anything. >Rugs for your floors, seal anything you can with silicone, I'll buy a few shite cheap rugs. My rooms are huge so it's not viable. I thought about carpeting but am I fuck carpeting a private let out my own pocket. I've made enough repairs and upgrades of my own accord already. I think sealing the windows and the skirting gaps are the big ones. by ResidualBiscuit (Sat 27th Aug 2022 9:10pm)
  • 350 is buttons compared to comparable properties. I'd be looking at another 100/150 easy for something the same or worse. I dunno why they've not increased my rent, must be protected in the lease somewhere as an assured tenancy I guess? Weirdly I got them to knock 20 quid off when I moved in. My guess is it is paid off and the owner doesn't really give a shit otherwise they'd surely want to raise it with mortgage rates being affected etc. I do plan on leaving. I'd told myself I wouldn't do another winter here because it's hell and that was before heating became a luxury. Can't afford to heat, can't afford to move. Cling on and hope I don't die, I guess! Either way moving isn't an option until the market calms down a bit. by ResidualBiscuit (Sat 27th Aug 2022 9:19pm)
  • If I recall, it was said that landlord would give a discountif long term let. The discount was a score note. Guess they just don't want any hassle and are happy for it to just keep ticking over as is, which honestly is just fine for me versus hikes and micro managing the place etc. by ResidualBiscuit (Sat 27th Aug 2022 9:55pm)
  • Rated at 69 in 2009, C starts at 69, 68 is D. Its voided. by ResidualBiscuit (Sun 28th Aug 2022 12:21am)
  • Aye. I'll ask if they've got a valid one just to see what they're saying. It's pure misleading. It details the appliances in situ and says double glazing (doesn't mention they're sash) so it's not exactly representative of the real world performance. It does explicitly detail insufficient insulation in the loft and 'assumed none' in the walls, as well as trash talks the back boiler. But yeah I have zero hope that any improvement will come. I've had 2 gas guys designate my boiler as 'at risk' and recommend a combi but so long as its not whatever the level above that is, they'll patch it. Overall plan is to cling on and look to move before next winter. by ResidualBiscuit (Sun 28th Aug 2022 1:12am)
  • Reminds me of the absolute cow I clocked at the bus stop one morning with her Greggs sausage roll. Tans it. Walks to the bin. Chucks her wrapper. Misses. Stares at it on the ground for a second. Walks away. Cunt even had the nerve to look at me and smile. In that moment she was the most repulsive and ugly creature I had ever seen. I hope she's unable to reach orgasm, like, ever. Fanny. by ResidualBiscuit (Sun 28th Aug 2022 12:36pm)
  • I've never gotten a deposit back so I see it as an entry fee. Once I even appealed to SDS and they gave me 20 quid back after the agent went into the property without my consent or knowledge and took pics and said that's how I left it. I lived there a further week after that, the pics were taken when I was packing. Scum of the earth. As far as thus place goes I've decorated and even retiled and recarpeted the bathroom and hall. They can fuck off. They'll do nothing. I've been without clean or warm water since Friday and they don't give a fuck. I'm having to go to the gym to shower 😂 by ResidualBiscuit (Sun 28th Aug 2022 4:17pm)

  • Is calling men dogs misandry? Misogyny is an oppressive stance involving discrimination, systemic prejudice and the likes. Is this person's comment oppressive? If so, detail how. It's a cunty thing, but calling it misogyny is hyperbole and waters down the severity of what misogyny is tbh. Like I said, low bar. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 7th Sep 2022 1:03pm)
  • Of course it is, but it isn't inherently indicative of a sense of superiority or even hatred, its just cunty. Misogyny should be identified by a pattern of behaviours, not a single comment tbh unless that comment is explicitly undoubtedly ridiculous, like the kind of stuff you would find among incels or MRAs where there is no shadow of a doubt. >Do you think it’s a positive thing to call a person a dog? I think it's valid to call awful people dogs, but then that would be insulting to dogs. Otherwise it's just cunty. But the context is important, and in this context we can only presume it was a sardonic remark. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 7th Sep 2022 1:41pm)
  • Another shout for Paisley. Been here nearly 10.years. my rent is 350 or a 1 bed but I have seem 3 beds available for <450 even as cheap as also 350 (shitboxes tbf). • I use McGills 38, their busiest route. I wait an hour on the bus every day after work, sometimes more. I have waited up to 2 hours before. I use the tracker app, their official app. The buses just disappear off it. It says its due in 5 mins, then it changes to 58 minutes, then 32 minutes, then it vanishes. The 1915 bus I get after the gym doesn't show. The 1936 bus, the 1950ish bus, none of them show. I get one at approx 2000. The 3 buses due after I finish work if I am going straight home don't show up, I eventually get a bus at about 1815, almost an hour after I arrived at the bus stop. In the AM, I often have to watch buses drive past me as they are chock full. I get on in Paisley headed to Glasgow. I am late for work most days because it is simply unpredictable and the only way around would be to leave absurdly early and as a point of principle I am not fucking doing that. The worst part is that they don't acknowledge it. They have made no announcements or updates to their services. They just take buses offline and divert them without notice. First are more expensive so I refuse to switch and going by this post, they're having the same nonsense issues. I tracked it for a few weeks. On average I spend 15 to 20 hours commuting to and from work. Getting to and from my minimum wage job _is_ a part time job. by ResidualBiscuit (Sat 10th Sep 2022 9:30pm)
  • It's ruining my life. I had hybrid working a few months ago and they took it away. All other jobs pay less than my 21½k. Even at that, the Jo is awful the company is awful but its entirely stress and pressure free and pish easy. Unless I can increase my earnings or reduce my hours at the same pay, there's no options. It's weird, no incentive to leave, no incentive to stay. Just pure abject rut. by ResidualBiscuit (Sun 11th Sep 2022 12:46am)

They went into my flat before I moved out, took pics of it and submitted them and said I left it that way. I was in process of moving out. They didn't tget permission or consent to go in. I lost my full deposit on that despite I actually cleared and even repainted before handing the keys back. They also (same guy I mentioned) showed me a flat on same street where I lived and it was a fucking tip. One of the bars I frequent has a PS1 and I think an old NES, definitely got more than just the PS1. Super Bario is a wee dinky bar that had some old school arcades. NQ64 is a nice UV clad place with a focus on games as well. Pixel Bar same deal. As much as I hate Tinder, the 'visiting for a week, looking for someone to show me around!' angle works wonders and you could at the very least have some company. At best you get your hole. Even better if she ~~pegs you~~ is into the same things like gaming and that. Definitely hit the Necro and museums though. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 21st Sep 2022 9:06pm)
  • I managed to blag some free courses on Udemy. One for a conplete beginners into to JS, one for data manipulation in Python, a third for machine learning in Python and lastly something called Python for deep learning in neural networks. I don't know what that is but it was free so I added it. Keep an eye out as they massively reduce some things periodically. Nothing can top actual tuition and as adults we are not exactly desired for training or tuition unless we pay a few grand we don't have. Are you looking to re train as well as I am? Coding, network engineering, software dev etc are all popular shouts for adults to retrain into. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 22nd Sep 2022 10:34am)
  • Yeah similar to myself. I work nonsense keyboard tapping job atm and would like to not be broke forever, but it's very difficult to find a way. [save this link](https://udemyfreecourses.org/) or keep it open on a tab. This is a directory for finding the ones that are free at any given time, subdivided into categories. Just now I've added a CCNA one to my list (network engineering), some beginner intros to C++, SQL, cloud networking (im hearign this is a big prospect moving forward), other pish. I've got about 20 courses enrolled in (and 0 started), just a good cross section to help me find what I may wish to explore as it's a busy and confusing industry. I'm even looking at app dev, Web dev and game design just out of curiosity. Ultimately I think full on stack softdev is the most lucrative but also seemingly the most difficult and heavy. I reckon if you do enough of this shit, then find labs/group to polish then you can get pretty far in your learning. I don't know about getting work though without actual qualifications, but we can only try. by ResidualBiscuit (Thu 22nd Sep 2022 11:13am)

  • I get on and off on PRW 5 days a week at rush hour. I recently witched from McGills to First. Both have issues. The apps list 'live tracker' timetables which are wrong. The buses change from due in 4 minutes to 50 minutes to disappearing completely then showing up in 12 minutes. Buses just disappear off the face of the earth. There is no attempt to alter the timetables to reflect reality. I regard wait 90 minutes on a bus after work but also sometime in the morning as well. 5 days a week. Getting to and from work is a part time job in terms of time cost. First are marginally better than McGills but also a couple quid dearer, but foe that you can use different buses and not just the 38. Their app is much worse as well. From my perspective and what I've heard divers say, its a shortage of drivers. They just aren't paying enough to keep people or get new ones in. They're diverting services for some reason to cover less busy routes it seems as well. We need a nationalised bus service. Thankfully, this is now being discussed at the preliminary level. Transport in Glasgow is an utterly fucking disaster unless you live and work on or near the laughably limited subway. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 14th Oct 2022 11:38am)

  • Mate. I live in Paisley. I moved here cos cheap. Before I found Mt current place I remember seeing this utter dive place listed for 300. The same place is listed now for 550 with a paint job and a carpet down. You used to be able to find half decent 1 beds for 300 to 400. Now they're al 500, 600. A girl I used to know lived at those wedge flats next to where the Pure gym and that are. Maybe 2 years ago? 3? It was 800. Its now listed at I shit you not 1600 a month. I want to move to a 2 bed as my partner is moving in with me but they're absurdly unaffordable. Like honestly I pay 350 and I an barely make ends meet working 50 hours a week. We are fucked. Anyone who thinks this is temporary and prices will go down in 2 years when enough people have died are fucking lunatics. We are living through a period of mass wealth transfer on a scale we haven't seen in a long time. This isn't some unavoidable cause of the Glorious Free Market Never To Be Defied, but a calculated and deliberate shafting of those at the bottom to maintain the lifestyles of those above. Keep an eye on the suicide rate over the next 12 to 24 months. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 14th Oct 2022 6:40pm)
  • I tried to get a place in Castle Gait when I was still living next to Mr Kebab. It was affordable (at a push) but aye, anything over 450 is totally unrealistic for me (21k, yas). 600 for a place seems normal to some people. It fucking isn't. Honestly 300 to 500 should be where we are at as an average range for your basic decent nick 1 and 2 beds, obviously not accounting for area. If I was to pay that I'd be fuether and further in the red every month. Just don't have the capacity. I've tried looking at HA's and that as well as MMRs but they all are allocated and pretty much always go to families. Totally unattainable. Even their prices are up. I fear being pushed out further afield just to be able to live. It's like gentrification without the upscaling of the area, in a way. I feel the same overall. I genuinely feel that we are in the early stages of societal collapse. It won't get _too_ bad for us but the next generations are done for. On the verge of another global war nobody seems to want to avoid, ecological and environmental decay are accelerating, inequality and poverty rising exponentially, resource scarcity, eventually the water becomes a problem and that's when things get real bad. Fuck me we are even seeing a resurgence of fascism, including the beginning sparks of it in our own government, and nobody seems too bothered by it. It is happening. And pretty much everyone knew yet nobody done anything to avoid it. Instead we just pretend it's all temporary and fine and better days of prosperity are ahead when they sure as fuck are not. Call me defeatist or pessimistic if you feel I am but I see that as the harsh reality of where we have allowed the gross misnagement of our world to lead us. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 14th Oct 2022 7:43pm)
  • Do you have any sources as to 'capacity' being the reason we are getting shagged? This isn't scarcity, it's price gouging. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 14th Oct 2022 7:49pm)

  • So I was even lower than the actual price. Amazing. 2 grand a month. I don't even make 2 grand a month before deductions! There are landlords down my bit who buy the 2 bed flats then rent them to students as student accommodation for like 600 each. The whole place should be 600 at best. Scum. I read a story on another sub, about a guy who was pally with his landlord and mentioned that they got a promotion and had a couple hundred into their savings each month now. Within a couple days he gets told rent is going up by a couple hundred. His own fault but still what the fuck? I like the wee ones at the Abbey but have never seen a listing to see what they go for. Same with the new ones down beside the Piazza.I like the Elipta as well, never figured it was as low as 495 mind, always thought it was higher end. Easily 850 for one now I reckon if not into the grand+ area. I've never had a rent increase. Everyone else gets them it sounds like but I've been 350 for 7 years and no indications otherwise. I reckon this place is paid off and the guy just doesn't give a shit. You're not supposed to buy a house. Pay your private rent and say thank you to your lord for providing housing. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 14th Oct 2022 10:02pm)

Whilst in an unamed Balkan state recently, I observed a man bereft of a domicile reject his indulgences of the previous day(s) quite openly and blatantly at 7am in a city centre park. • Bus user here. I spend legitimately 15 to 20 hours per week commuting to my job 6 miles away because of the shit show of McGills and First. The timetables are lies. I stand there almost every day and watch as 3 scheduled buses don't turn up and I lose money being late for work and spend a good chunk of my 'free' time post work just standing waiting on a bus for 70 mins. They won't ever change as they know people rely on them for work. They don't have any impetus to change. They say they have driver shortage but I don't believe them otherwise they'd be striking about forced overtime same as RMT. The fact that this isn't a bigger issue being spoken about is fucking cringe. The transport infrastructure here is legitimately pathetic and I feel like there is zero interest in it from out councils or government beyond the new Net Zero branding on some buses. Of all the things that make me miserable in life, this has far higher a place in the list than 'buses' should ever be. And rail isn't an option because its about 2.5x more expensive. by ResidualBiscuit (Sun 30th Oct 2022 7:14pm)
  • For real. I take a smoke now and then but I did used to know someone who was the first and only case I'd ever witnessed of someone being a weed junkie. He had every psychological junkie tic and trait going, for weed. It was fucking bizarre. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 4th Nov 2022 11:34am)
  • I lived above a junkie in my last place. They partied every day almost and were super loud and violent. He screamed up at me from below that he was gonna plug me after I dropped my telly remote at 5am and came to my door. He was a twig, I'd obliterate him in a fight, but he was a junkie and junkies are unpredictable and dangerous on that basis. I too felt suicidal and beyond done with life mostly because of the lingering presence of this rabid animal fit surely for only being put down. Now that I have moved, my random singing probably makes me the annoying neighbor. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 4th Nov 2022 11:37am)
  • Don't want more, just want it to go back to the way it was at this point. Used to be 40 mons door to door, now it's legit 2 hours a day just waiting for the fucking things. by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 7th Nov 2022 8:26pm)
  • More people causes delays, so none show up for an hour then 3 drive by you one after the other with people pressed up against the door like sardines. I really don't see how they can't logistically position the buses in anticipation of this. Just no effort on their part to mitigate. Which incidentally is part of the larger issue, the likes of First and McGills have no incentive to do anything as no matter how bad they get, people have no choice but to give them money to get to their jobs by ResidualBiscuit (Mon 7th Nov 2022 8:44pm)
  • Except when people advocate this they're generally referring to a nationalised service. • This issue started in 1986 when our public ownership was wrecked. SNP are toothless and shilling for the private firms, and it is their responsibility, but it is not their fault it is like this. It is an inherited problem and aye, the grace period for planning is over, things should have changed by now. At least the one bus per 90 that turns up has Net Zero branding so we are amazing I guess. Still. Your comment offers nothing. Why bother? by ResidualBiscuit (Tue 8th Nov 2022 11:33am)
  • Honestly we are getting as bad as the States. Everything is built by and for cars, we don't have walkable cities as much as we should because we need roads and more lanes to fit all the cars. We don't have space. It is absurd that we at this point aren't outright limiting the fucking sale of the damn things to reduce numbers over time. Every spare bit of space has a car in it. Every road is clogged to a crawl with them. And to top it all off, we can breathe less and less. It is quite genuinely fucking insane as far as I'm concerned. And yeah that person is just a troll and not even an entertaining one at that. by ResidualBiscuit (Tue 8th Nov 2022 2:23pm)

  • This just in, ScotGov are capitalists just like the rest and approve vanity projects to make money with little to no interest in any meaningful progressive change. Colour me stunned. For real though where are the flats being built that aren't for private developers like Lowther and Cala? We have a full scale housing crisis and yet all we see is these 'gentrification flats' and the americanised suburbs (eg, the site of the old NS&I next to Silverburn, or the back of Darnley at B&Q). Recently there was this bit of land next to Cardonald library that finally had the wee building tore off it. I thought good, can build a 4 in a block there of 2 or 3 bedroom units, if not more. What happened? 3 big massive fuck off houses with, shit you not, dining tables with about 10 seats that you can see from the PRW. Any concept of green infrastructure or viewing our cities to be walkable is moot. Its never going to happen. All developments are sold off to the highest bidder who wants to make the most money, and that always is either student flats or the aforementioned gentrification flats or American style suburbs. Walking down Trongate last night I noticed building site I hadn't clocked before. How many baws you betting its more of the same? Combine all this with our genuinely abysmal public transport infrastructure and all we are left with is the inevitable decline to car reliance and being pushed further out of the cities. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 16th Nov 2022 10:39am)

  • I'm still shook by the wee dobber I clocked outside Queen St Station a month or so ago. Was waiting on my pal and this wee guy was stood 2m from a bin tanning a can, looked at the bin and just dropped the tin on the ground. I legitimately wanted to toe him in the kugelsack. Or the lassie at the bus stop a few months back as well tanning her sausage roll in the morning. Walked to the bin to dispose of the wrapper. Missed. Looked at it on the ground for a second and opted to just leave it. This is a cultural problem at this point and it requires extreme measures to fix. We aren't responsible collectively. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 18th Nov 2022 3:46pm)

  • Honestly I'm in favour of heavy fines. 500 fixed penalty notice, grow up or pay for your cuntishness. I'm heavily against the extraction of money from the working class, which is or of the main things police do, but this is as I said a cultural problem and it can only be changed by being firm. • I sympathise with the frustrations but 400 left over on 22k is loaded in the current climate. For context I work 50 hours for 24.5 and I have at best 50 left over a month. Wager are low. We know this. UK in general has very low wages. It seems like people are finally starting to realise this. This is the new normal. No landlord is gonna reduce their rent when things calm down. We have been goose stepping towards a US-like rental climate for years now and we are seeing an escalation currently where it is unaffordable to live alone and room mates are the norm, because rents are going to have basically doubled over a short period of time relatively speaking. I had a pal who rented with her man for 850. Their old place is listed for 1800 atm, shit you not. I chose to live in Paisley because its cheap and you could get a 1 bed for 300. 450 now easy, and rising. Thigs are fucked and you're not being singled out for a battering. Just like how 90% of people who argue against socialism couldn't even define it let alone describe any of its functions. Same with things like capital, they think it means 'money' and that's it. They think middle class is a wage bracket yet fail to see that working class includes the bottom half of the middle class as well and that their interests are aligned on the whole. People are stupid. Not USSR or any other bullshit boot coming down under a red flag and calling itself communism when it didn't meet the fundamental criteria per the definition of the word. Their economic growth is on course to overtake the US. All you gotta do is let rich people make money there and you can do what you want. Russia done the same thing up until February last year. Of course Russia is not communist though. Neither is China really. Its branding for them now. And yes people try to call nazis socialist because of the party name. • You need to read more. I am not a communist. But you don't seem to understand what the word means and are painfully ignorant of the nuances that smother any attempt to deviate from the violently enforced 'best system ever devised'. What we are doing now doesn't work any more than 'communism' did. We just pretend it does. And yes we are on that path. Explicitly and without a doubt. Don't sit there talking about "Tories" like they matter. They don't. It is far bigger than them and will be a global problem far faster than people are emotionally or psychologically ready to consider. What do you think happens when the water starts to run out? When the population outgrows capacity? When supply doesn't meet demand? When we haven't even begun to have addressed some of our biggest problems in energy, climate or environment? Do you think you can put a little cross in a box and some neoliberal capitalist with a different coloured tie, who ascribes to the very same doctrine that brought us to that point, is gonna make it all better? No. by ResidualBiscuit (Tue 17th Jan 2023 2:32am)
  • See, I asked because 9/10 people have no idea what the word means nor what key factors make up a communist society. Who owns the means of production? What happens to the state entity itself? By which metric are resources allocated? China maintains a Soviet (literally 'council') form of ruling party but Deng's 'socialism with Chinese characteristics is just capitalism but in red, really. I guess you win the comfort of knowing you know what you're talking about. Sadly this is not so common! by ResidualBiscuit (Tue 17th Jan 2023 8:53am)
  • You want ideally 18⁰c+. Prices make this brutally difficult. For context my flat is about 10 or 11 degrees on average and was as low as 8 a few weeks ago. by ResidualBiscuit (Tue 17th Jan 2023 9:55am)
  • I mind I lost my 3210 on the 54 at Braehead. Da was raging. Until the house phone rang and a wee old lady found it and wanted to return it, she had went into the contacts and found the number. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 1st Feb 2023 10:51am)
  • 'fIgHtInG age Men' Fuck up. Same pish people have been saying for 20-30 years now. We are being invaded by foreign mercs and the entire Home Office and UKVI are just happy to have them, aye? You spoke to them aye? You know they're all men, aye? You know they're all Albanian, aye? You know they're all ex-military, aye? Given that the ony people they'll have interacted with is UKVI, naw, you or anyone else knows fuck all. BTW how many Albanians have you met in Glasgow? Must be a fuck tonne. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 3rd Feb 2023 8:18am)

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but haven't all those been increased along with literally every tiny other expense in our lives? You can't pull more revenue from people with nothing left to spare. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 17th Feb 2023 12:03pm)
  • When you say "compared to Inflation" are you saying they've increased below inflation rates? If so that is still money gone, regardless if below cos as you know, wages don't keep up. Just about all local authorities going up 5% next month from what I'm seeing. Weirdly can't find info on my own council for 23/24 fiscal year. by ResidualBiscuit (Fri 17th Feb 2023 4:04pm)

  • I hated football until I was about 17. All the rangers fans I knew were aggressive and bigoted. Celtic had Nakamura and a nicer kit. That was it. My interest in Scottish football lasted about a decade before the low quality and constant finger pointing between the two along with peado 'jokes' made me hate it. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 1st Mar 2023 10:10am)

  • That's very nice and thoughtful of you bit in case you haven't noticed, this is a cultural problem and isn't going away without drastic action. Soft touches don't work when it's this deeply ingrained. Heavy fines need to be imposed as a component of societal and cultural reform on this. by ResidualBiscuit (Tue 7th Mar 2023 4:30pm)
  • People always talk about heating but lecky is WAY more expensive. My heating is maybe 60 a month (I'm cold but it's tolerable) but lecky is like 200. Or is everyone else just pumping the gas and heating their whole place to 20? by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 8th Mar 2023 9:11pm)
  • The cap is staying where it is in real terms due to Energy Price Guarantee, meaning although cap is increasing, our taxes are paying them off to keep the cap at the same level. The planned increase has been delayed for 3 months. However, the Energy Bills Support Scheme is ending. This is the scheme that has seen £67 in our accounts each month. So no matter what happens, everyone's bills are going up by £67 on energy. In July they will go up another 20% at current estimates. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 8th Mar 2023 9:10pm)
  • To condition us to do it once the infrastructure to actually separate is in place. Currently we haven't got a clue or a plan. It all gets buried in the ground (insane concept). The logic is that if we start on the small scale now then social attitudes will already have adjusted in the hypothetical future when we do indeed have a plan. For me, this is not going to work. Social attitudes are not changing. by ResidualBiscuit (Wed 8th Mar 2023 9:20pm)
