  • Had it been another day when I wasn't as busy I might well have went over and said hello, it was never my intention to insult, let alone hurt anyone. I agree that there are some total rockets out there that thrive off of having a laugh, sometimes maliciously, at other peoples expense. However, I don't think that means the rest of us should have to live in a bubble just because some people can't behave like civilised human beings. Yes, there are some pretty callous comments on this post, but if you actually got down off your high horse for a second you would see that ALL of these have been heavily downvoted; something that I'm reasonably sure is because most people on here are in actual fact DECENT folk. Also, I never once said anything about anyone 'behaving outside the norm'; that's your opinion, not mine. by madrockyoutcrop (Wed 17th Jul 2019 12:02am)
  • Maybe that was a poor choice of words. However, I still think that you've taken me completely out of context and that given the circumstances your reaction is quite unreasonable. by madrockyoutcrop (Wed 17th Jul 2019 12:53am)
  • I'd second Tiso for a good waterproof winter jacket. For t-shirts and jeans etc. I quite like Uniqlo, not a physical shop but online. They're stuff's really good quality and at a reasonable price, if it's in stock that is! by madrockyoutcrop (Sun 11th Aug 2019 6:54am)
  • If you've got transport I'd highly recommend the Arrochar Alps. The Cobbler's probably the most popular up that way but there's plenty of others that are just as good, if you're looking for a bit of peace and quiet - The Cobbler can get very busy! • I thought the food was fairly decent. Definitely overpriced though, and the wait of over an hour for 1 burrito and some chips was ridiculous. Takeaways that always prioritise deliveroo/ubereats over walk in customers are really starting to get on my tits! by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 26th Aug 2021 9:36am)

  • True, but there’s a lot of angry folk on the road both on bikes and in cars. Instead of trying to blame each other and argue about who’s in the right etc, folk should just try not to be cunts to each other. Wishful thinking I know, but you’ve gotta start somewhere. by madrockyoutcrop (Wed 1st Sep 2021 8:24am)

  • I was in a similar situation a couple of months ago where I’d been invited to a wedding at short notice. When I phoned on the Monday morning, they asked if there was any reason I wouldn’t be able to attend if a trial went ahead. I said I’ve got a wedding at the end of the week, but that I understood this probably wasn’t a valid excuse. I was quite surprised when they said ‘no bother, we’ll excuse you this time but you’ll probably get another citation in the near future’. I’ve now been excused from jury duty 4 times, so have become a bit of a pro at it ;-) Don’t worry about it too much. Just phone them up on Monday morning, be honest and explain that you have a holiday booked; they’ll probably give you an exemption. by madrockyoutcrop (Sat 2nd Oct 2021 11:24am)
  • Yeah, that’s a wee bit out of my depth then, haha. I’d still go to the wedding if I were you though. You can still drink, just don’t get cunted! When you phone on Monday don’t even mention that you been excused before. I doubt very much that they have a list there that tells them how many times each person’s been excused in the past. by madrockyoutcrop (Sat 2nd Oct 2021 11:40am)

  • Yeah, colour might be a bit off for most things but it’s pretty bombproof stuff. If it’s only the seam of the fabric that’s torn can you not just take it to your local tailor to sew back up? The Scottish mountain gear guys would probably be overkill for a gazebo as they’ll mostly deal with repairs to specialist fabrics and equipment like goretex and down sleeping bags, and they won’t be cheap! by madrockyoutcrop (Sat 9th Oct 2021 9:36pm)

  • I’m all for it in the city centre, but GCC really need to sort out the proposed parking restrictions at North Kelvin and North Woodside. Monday to Sunday 0800 - 2200, and in some areas they’re even reducing the amount of spaces they’ll be to less than the number of properties there are. Apparently this is to reduce the commuter parking problem, which only really exists in a small number of areas, and also to stop folk from other nearby areas parking there. I smell shite. by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 11th Nov 2021 4:31pm)
  • You picked the wrong place to argue about cars pal. Too many folk on here who don’t want to discuss realistic and viable solutions to the problem and just want to take the moral high ground because their own personal circumstances mean that they can live their life without having to rely on a car. by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 11th Nov 2021 9:17pm)
  • Don’t get me wrong, I agree with you, but decades of poor planning and policy decisions isn’t something something that can be easily fixed. What we need is open and honest discussion about how we can make it work for everyone, not just those who live in the 100% car free fantasy world that’s never going to exist - well at least not in our lifetimes anyway. I think what I was trying to get at in my original comment is that I suspect GCC see some of the proposed parking restrictions outwith the city centre as a bit of a cash cow, and that they’re trying to hide this under the guise of something else entirely, e.g. commuter parking issues etc. In all fairness I’d probably be quite open to believing that their intentions were honest if it wasn’t for their blatant disregard for the local communities concerns regarding the proposals, a laughable consultation process throughout which they’ve completely controlled the narrative, and the fact that they’ve ignored multiple objections made on grounds such as safety, unreasonably long hours and administration and cost of residents permits. by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 11th Nov 2021 11:51pm)

  • I think I must be the only person who’s never had a problem with them. I think it’s because I’m polite regardless of their tone, which in all honesty I can’t hold against them when you consider how much of a cunt some folk can be and the shite they must have to put up with all day long. by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 18th Nov 2021 3:43pm)
  • Council leader of the year but. by madrockyoutcrop (Wed 1st Dec 2021 12:22am)
  • How old is the building? Is it a block of flats, or a 1/2 storey house? What’s the building made from, e.g. is it a sandstone tenament? What type of ground is it built on, i.e. are you on flat ground close to a river or near old docks etc? Has there been any significant construction work nearby recently? Have the cracks suddenly appeared or have they grown or spread significantly over a short period of time? Glasgow and the surrounding area has its fair share of mine workings. Although these are unlikely to be of much concern, especially for older buildings that have been in place for 100+ years. However, there’s always the possibility of workings being disturbed if major construction work has been carried out nearby. I doubt very much that this is anything to worry about, but if your curious have a look at the coal authority map viewer to see if there’s anything of interest nearby to you: [http://mapapps2.bgs.ac.uk/coalauthority/home.html](http://mapapps2.bgs.ac.uk/coalauthority/home.html) If you’re really that concerned, I wouldn’t let your landlord or factor fob you off with saying that an architect had checked it and said it was ok. Only a structural engineer is qualified to make that assessment, and I wouldn’t think twice about reminding them of that. by madrockyoutcrop (Wed 1st Dec 2021 8:46pm)
  • Fuck up. by madrockyoutcrop (Sun 5th Dec 2021 8:19am)
  • Infrastructure engineer by day, keyboard warrior by night. I can assure you, chat like ‘cyclist’s cause all sorts of grief on the roads’ just proves that you’ve no fucking idea what you’re talking about and that you should probably keep your narrow minded opinions to yourself, hence the ‘fuck up’. by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 9th Dec 2021 11:24pm)
  • So you’re idea of affordable is having to save an exorbitant amount for a deposit then potentially pay 10% - 20% above the HR value, all whilst dealing with increasing inflation and reduction of income in real terms? Sounds like the systems fucked to me, but as long as we keep propping it up, e.g. first home fund etc, and keep pretending everything else is fine then who’s to complain? I’m not convinced there are plenty of people who can afford them, especially when a lot of these folk are probably mortgaged up to the eyeballs and would really struggle if we did have a crash. by madrockyoutcrop (Fri 10th Dec 2021 11:08pm)
  • How quickly before someone starts playing the victim? Go be offended somewhere else mate, naecunt cares. by madrockyoutcrop (Fri 10th Dec 2021 11:16pm)
  • Fair enough, maybe you’re not offended, but why try to polarise the issue with a comment like that when it’s far more complex? In all fairness English folk moving up here from down south with more disposable cash are part of the problem, but to be honest who can blame them when all they want at the end of the day is the same as us. by madrockyoutcrop (Sat 11th Dec 2021 2:43pm)
  • Building more also requires major investment in infrastructure so it’s not quite that simple unfortunately. What we really need to do is disincentivise or control institutional and foreign investment in our housing market so it’s not seen as a cash cow for the rich. I highly doubt that’s ever going to happen though. by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 16th Dec 2021 5:54pm)

  • Entitlement, or just being Scottish, has nothing to do with flying the saltire. Flags in general, especially when you’re trying to use them control a narrative, are imho for the narrow minded, who for whatever reason, lack the ability to read between the lines and look at the bigger picture. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m guessing you’re not from Scotland or the UK? by madrockyoutcrop (Sun 19th Dec 2021 2:38am)
  • Whilst I agree that ‘free speech’ is important, society still needs to be aware of the inherent dangers of that type of philosophy, e.g. [Paradox of Intolerance.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance) by madrockyoutcrop (Sun 19th Dec 2021 2:44am)

  • Textbook YMMV. In my experience, and as someone who has a chronic mental health condition, it’s not that doctors don’t care, it’s that they tend to be overworked and under resourced. As cliché as it sounds, helping yourself also plays a massive part in getting well and sometimes meds can give people the strength they need to allow that to happen. It’s unfortunate meds didn’t work for you, but I hope you find something that does and find some peace with it. by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 6th Jan 2022 4:30pm)
  • Recommendation letter to who, your GP? by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 6th Jan 2022 4:36pm)
  • Your GP won’t be qualified to make that diagnosis and will likely need to refer you to adult mental health services. If I were you I’d first ask if this has been done, and if not why. If they can’t give you an answer or refuse to refer you then it might be time to start looking for a new GP. Just a word of warning, if you do manage to get a referral you’ll probably be looking at a waiting list of at least 6+ months, but please don’t let that put you off seeking further help and don’t give up pushing if you really feel you need it. Mental health services in this country are seriously underfunded and since COVID are almost at breaking point. In the words of my psychiatrist they’re ‘pretty much firefighting’ at the moment, and unless your already under their care, or are a threat to yourself or others, you’re essentially low priority. by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 6th Jan 2022 4:50pm)
  • Are the next council elections not in May? Normally I’d be voting SNP but I’ve had it with these clowns. by madrockyoutcrop (Mon 10th Jan 2022 9:24pm)
  • I think we should get a stickied post up on r/glasgow to remind folk that the elections are coming up and it’s their chance to have their voices heard. Every other day there seems to be some cunt complaining about bins, litter, transport, parking and council tax etc, and in my experience GCC simply refuse to take any accountability for these issues and instead just twist the narrative to fit their own agenda, i.e. fuck the people who actually have to live in this city. by madrockyoutcrop (Mon 10th Jan 2022 10:19pm)

  • You’ll probably be eligible for some form of discretionary funding from the university, but I wouldn’t rely on that assumption if I were you. Could you not work part time whilst studying? That’s what I did, and although it wasn’t easy at times I rarely had to worry about money. Also, you won’t get any student funding over the summer months, and you won’t be able to claim benefits as you’ll technically still be a student, so having a part time job that you might be able to do full time in the summer would ideally be your best option. by madrockyoutcrop (Sat 22nd Jan 2022 1:12pm)
  • Break the padlock, replace it with a combination one and send the agency the code. Also, if the property’s been empty for over a year I’m sure GCC would like to know as the owner will probably be liable for a higher rate of council tax. Not saying you should grass on them or anything like that though… by madrockyoutcrop (Sun 23rd Jan 2022 9:05pm)
  • In my experience, I have to agree. Whilst these charities might be beneficial to some, I’ve personally never seen any evidence of how they’ve helped or supported folk with complex mental health problems in the long term. This is something I’ve also thought about before and discussed with others in the past. As an adult who also has ADHD *et al*., I can empathise with your situation, i.e. it’s shite. As you’ll well know ADHD’s a chronic condition, and although medication can be extremely effective, it’s not a silver bullet. What I think is lacking in this area is post-diagnostic support, especially for people who have been diagnosed as adults and might not have had the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to manage the condition effectively. However, mental health support in this country is severely underfunded, and in the words of my psychiatrist they’re basically just ‘firefighting’ at the moment. There’s a Glasgow ADHD support group that I’ve found useful in the past. Although I’ve not been for a while myself, I did find some comfort in chatting with other folk who I could relate to and share experiences with. by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 27th Jan 2022 6:40am)

I think you’ll find that most folk are equally reluctant to share their favourite spots for the very reason that posting their location online usually results in them getting trashed, e.g. Glen Etive etc. How about you go and do a bit of exploring and see where you end up? You might be surprised what you find when you venture off the beaten track ;-) by madrockyoutcrop (Wed 30th Mar 2022 7:51pm)

  • It’s a complete joke tbf. I live less than 15 mins away from the airport by car, yet to get there by train/bus would take me well over an hour and cost over £10. Alternatively, I could just get a taxi, but that would cost me even more and I’d also have to deal with the additional stress in wondering if the cunts will even turn up on time! It’s totally insane that in our biggest city it’s often easier and cheaper to fly to a foreign country than it is to just get to the fucking airport in the first place. by madrockyoutcrop (Fri 15th Apr 2022 5:40pm)

  • Jon Molyneux - Scottish Greens. Spoke to him earlier today when he was doing the rounds in Shawlands and he came across as a decent bloke who seemed genuinely concerned about the day to day issues that affect local folk, e.g. waste and transportation etc. I’ve never voted Green before as I’ve always felt like what they were proposing was a wee bit too radical and not very practical. However, I’m starting to realise that although we can’t change things overnight we do need to start moving towards developing a more inclusive and sustainable society, and this is something that I don’t feel like any of the other parties are offering at the moment. Anyway, it was nice to speak to a politician who was offering feasible and pragmatic solutions to difficult local issues instead of just blaming others for creating them in the first place and/or condemning the SNP. by madrockyoutcrop (Mon 2nd May 2022 5:19pm)

  • How is it a bit silly when it’s Westminster who refuse to see the drug crisis in Scotland as anything other than a criminal justice problem, which the Scottish Government have no say in. On multiple occasions Holyrood have proposed that it be treated as public health issue only to have their proposals and recommendations shot down by the Tory Government. That’s right though, let’s not blame those who are ultimately responsible and let’s just keep treating these people, some of whom are the most vulnerable members of society, as criminals because that’s really worked so well in the past… by madrockyoutcrop (Tue 3rd May 2022 6:22am)
  • Have you got a source for the polling data? I’d be quite interested to have a look at it as I get the feeling that it’s the older generations who tend to hold more right-wing values. by madrockyoutcrop (Tue 3rd May 2022 6:44am)
  • If you think ‘Kayleigh-Anne from Bothwell’ is the problem then you’re missing point. People ending up in shitty life situations is usually a sign of a broken system, i.e. lack of a safety net and effective public services. by madrockyoutcrop (Tue 3rd May 2022 7:09am)
  • Haha, yeah. I’m committed to calling folk out on it because it’s complete and utter nonsense. IMHO decriminalisation of drugs is the only logical solution, and where it’s been implemented properly it’s been proven to reduce both crime rates and deaths. What I don’t get though is why are folk so against this. Surely less crime and fewer deaths is a good thing, right? by madrockyoutcrop (Tue 3rd May 2022 7:41am)
  • So just because you clearly don’t like the SNP we should just abandon the idea of implementing an evidence based solution that’s been proven to reduce crime rates and deaths in multiple countries? It’s not about just blindly copying what other countries have done, it’s about looking for solutions that are effective and save lives. by madrockyoutcrop (Tue 3rd May 2022 9:53am)

  • 60 days isn’t against the rules. My GP writes me a prescription for 84 days supply and I have no issues in getting that filled from my local pharmacy. OP, I use Mackie’s Pharmacy and would highly recommend them. They have a few branches throughout Glasgow and I’ve never had to wait more that a day or two for them to order in my my meds. The trick is to get your new prescription a few days before you run out so you don’t have any lost days! Regarding getting an assessment through the NHS I would get the ball rolling on this if you haven’t done so already: 1. Make an appointment with your GP and tell them you’ve been diagnosed privately but would like to have an assessment done through the NHS. Mention the issues you’ve been having with the private clinic and that it’s severely impacting your mental health. 2. Hopefully your GP is willing to refer you to your local mental health team straight away. If not you might have to ask for a second opinion or even change GP. Please don’t get disheartened by this if it happens as some GP’s are stuck in the past and don’t realise that they’re not qualified to make an assessment on whether or not someone has ADHD. 3. If you do get referred without any issues then unfortunately there will be a wait. How long I think really depends on what part of Glasgow you’re in and how well resourced the local mental health team there are. However, the NHS in Glasgow have recently been running workshops with adults with ADHD to see how they can further develop and improve services. I imagine this will also include more funding to help deal with the backlog of referrals and to help speed up and improve the diagnostic process. by madrockyoutcrop (Fri 27th May 2022 6:38pm)
  • Just because your landlords selling doesn’t necessarily mean you have to leave. by madrockyoutcrop (Sat 28th May 2022 3:37pm)
  • Maybe so but you still have rights and the new owners might not be able to just increase the rent without proper notice etc. Plus, how do you know the new owners aren’t just planning to move in themselves? I’m not an expert but I’m sure you can’t be evicted without the landlord following the correct procedure. OP, you should probably give Shelter a call. They’ll be able to advise you on your rights as a tenant which should at least buy you some time. by madrockyoutcrop (Sat 28th May 2022 5:39pm)
  • Totally agree. However, I was just pointing out that if OP’s landlord hasn’t followed the process correctly it could potentially buy them some extra time and help take the pressure off finding somewhere at short notice. by madrockyoutcrop (Sat 28th May 2022 6:00pm)

  • Correct me if I’m wrong but is an MEng not a 5 year course? If so you’ve still got next summer. Anyhow, I think you’re panicking over nothing. Not everyone who starts off as a grad has industry experience. Yes, it looks good and might give you an edge when it comes to interviewing, but please don’t think it’s the be all and end all of your engineering career. If you’re still really desperate to find something then go to as many extracurricular activities as you can, i.e. evening lectures etc., where you’ll have the chance to speak to folk from industry. I know it’s not easy, I suffer from anxiety myself, but if you get the chance to, ask about summer placements etc. It might surprise you just how effective showing a wee bit of enthusiasm can be, especially if you end up speaking to someone who has some influence within their company. by madrockyoutcrop (Sat 16th Jul 2022 4:49pm)

  • I think that cycling safely in the city comes down to 3 main things: experience, confidence and unfortunately a wee bit of luck. The trick is to be assertive, make your position on the road clear, i.e. don’t feel that you need to pull in to the side if it’s not safe to do so, ignore the pricks who think they own the road and if in any doubt at all always assume that another driver hasn’t see you. by madrockyoutcrop (Sun 17th Jul 2022 8:15pm)

  • There's far too much of it, it's incredibly difficult to get rid of and the council are skint. Just keep clear of it and tell others to do the same. by madrockyoutcrop (Mon 15th Aug 2022 5:41pm)
  • You seem adamant on shifting all of the responsibility onto the council, who, as someone else pointed out, have been dealing with the issue. It’s just that it’s got more out of control than normal due to covid etc. Instead of complaining about it on here have you tried reaching out to your local councillor? That’s what they’re there for after all. Anyway, what I don’t think you seem to be able to grasp is the complexity of a problem like we have with Giant Hogweed, e.g. part of the reason it’s so prevalent around riverbanks etc. is that the seeds are carried downstream every year and it’s practically impossible to prevent this from happening on any meaningful scale. I think the best we can hope for is to either: a) Invent a time machine so we can go back in time to tell the Victorians not to be dumb fucks by bringing back all these invasive species in the first place. b) Raise awareness of the issue, e.g. by asking the council to erect signs nearby when the plants are in bloom. I’ve seen this at Cunnigar Loop so it has already been done elsewhere. I get where you’re coming from but I don’t think this is an issue that’s just going to disappear, no matter how loud you shout about it, and to be honest if your ‘backs turned’ when down by the river with young kids then you probably shouldn’t be there with them in the first place. by madrockyoutcrop (Mon 15th Aug 2022 8:16pm)

  • Shite as in it's hard enough trying to save for a deposit in a world where inflation is through the roof and wages in real terms are decreasing year on year. Also, potentially having to pay >10% above the home report value; like we all have a spare £20k just lying around to cover this! Anyway, I'm from a working class background and I did all the right things I was told to when I was younger, e.g. stick in at school, go to university and get a professional career etc., but still, just trying to get by and have a reasonably comfortable life these days is becoming increasingly difficult. Don't get me wrong I've had opportunities that a lot of others haven't, which I'm hugely grateful for and don't take for granted. However, the future looks pretty beak for our generation, and the only folk who seem to be benefitting from this mess are the same ones who keep fucking it up in the first place whilst coincidently getting richer at the same time. Apologies for the rant, I had to get that off my chest. by madrockyoutcrop (Sun 28th Aug 2022 11:33am)
  • There's some good discussion on the thread linked below regarding renewables in Scotland. Currently, (hydro) pumped storage seems to be the most viable solution for dealing with the variability of power generated from renewable sources like wind etc. AFAIA we already have a few of these pumped storage schemes in Scotland, e.g. Cruachan, but it looks like there's a lot more in the works that will vastly increase our capacity going forward. [https://www.reddit.com/r/Scotland/comments/wrkyb9/so\_while\_these\_energy\_prices\_are\_going\_up/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Scotland/comments/wrkyb9/so_while_these_energy_prices_are_going_up/) IMO corporate greed, along with poor planning, regulation and government policy, is why we're seeing such large price increases, e.g. assuming [this article](https://www.theguardian.com/business/2021/sep/24/how-uk-energy-policies-have-left-britain-exposed-to-winter-gas-price-hikes) is correct, in 2013 the Government made the decision to save £750 million over 10 years by closing the Rough storage facility which provided 70% of the UK gas storage capacity. I'm no expert, but considering such a large proportion of our electricity down south is generated from gas, then surely this decision was a ridiculously short sighted move on their part. I mean I understand that we need to diversify our energy sources whilst reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, but taking such a massive risk is outrageous, and it unfortunately appears that the public are paying the price for it yet again. by madrockyoutcrop (Sun 28th Aug 2022 12:30pm)
  • We already have a large amount of hydro schemes in Scotland thanks in part to a little known Labour MP named [Tom Johnston and the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board](https://www.drax.com/power-generation/a-brief-history-of-scottish-hydropower/). During the 1950's and 1960's the related engineering challenges and achievements were nothing short of incredible and were probably on a scale that we'll never see in this country again. If anyone's interested The Hydro Boys: Pioneers of Renewable Energy by Emma Watson is a great account of the early days of hydro power in Scotland. by madrockyoutcrop (Sun 28th Aug 2022 12:51pm)
  • Civil engineer here (with credentials). There's an (almost) endless list of considerations that have to be made before developing and designing a civil engineering scheme of any significant size, heres a few that you might not have thought about: 1. Cultural heritage 2. Landscape 3. Biodiversity 4. Geology 5. Location and topography 6. Population and health 7. Technical feasibility In short, designing and constructing engineering solutions to the complex issues we as a society face is far more difficult than a vast majority of the public imagine, and believe it or not most of us tend to know what we're doing. I suspect that if your friend with the degree in environmental studies has any experience in industry they'll already know this. by madrockyoutcrop (Sun 28th Aug 2022 1:17pm)

  • Wow, what an ill informed and ignorant opinion. Maybe you should educate yourself first on what ADHD actually is and what damage it can cause to someones life when left untreated. Regarding your point about meds having 'enjoyable side effects', there's actually strong link between untreated ADHD and substance misuse; not the other way round. Meds, which I can assure you don't have 'enjoyable side effects', actually reduce the risk of substance misuse and can generally lead to a significant increase in quality of life. by madrockyoutcrop (Tue 20th Dec 2022 1:05pm)

Biggest difference is however, drivers tend to be encased in 100kg+ of glass and steel and something that could be a relatively minor accident for someone in a car could mean a life changing injury or death for someone on a bike. This whataboutery shit is beyond boring now and is never going to solve anything anyway. As someone who both drives and rides a bike I think that we need to collectively push for better infrastructure planning and implementation that's fit for purpose and actually helps to improve peoples lives. Transport in Glasgow is a complete joke. • The coal authority does have it down as being in a development high risk area - probable shallow coal mine workings. By the look of things there's also a few untreated shafts nearby. However, seeing as those tenemants have been there for >100 years it's unlikely, although not impossible, that the cracks have anything to do with movement in the ground. My first guess would be that the cracking is more likely related to the structure itself, e.g. age, lack of maintenance and water ingress etc. * For anyone who's interested, you can view free/limited data on the Coal Authority Map Viewer [here](https://mapapps2.bgs.ac.uk/coalauthority/home.html). * Screenshot of what I found for Gibson Street [here](https://imgur.com/a/YKtZddz). by madrockyoutcrop (Mon 13th Mar 2023 7:29pm)

  • Typically, the greatest mining related risk is in areas where the rock cover, i.e. thickness of rock above a worked seam, is less than 10 times the seam thicknesses. However, this is more of a ‘rule of thumb’ and doesn’t always apply as there may be various other factors that need to be considered and accounted for. There’s a decent amount of free information available on the coal authority interactive viewer, but any interpretation of this data really needs to be done by a professional as it’s usually fairly technical. I’m not sure exactly how the property buying process works, but I’d assume that if your offer is accepted then your solicitor would carry out the necessary checks which should include a mining report if the property is in a development high risk area. by madrockyoutcrop (Fri 7th Apr 2023 11:19pm)

  • So you watched one extremely biased documentary and now you're an expert? Also, playing the system for what exactly? Some really weak speed that would cost well over a grand to get a hold of, assuming you actually get diagnosed, never mind the ongoing prescription costs. Trust me, ADHD is real. I live with it daily, and although I was diagnosed many years ago and take medication every day, it still has a massive detrimental effect on my life. That Panorama ADHD show has caused massive damage to a community of extremely vulnerable individuals and both the reporter and the BBC should be ashamed of themselves. FYI - I don't receive any money or a blue badge for having ADHD, nor does anyone else I know who has it, but I do manage to hold down a fairly stressful job and I try my best to fit in to a world that I don't feel welcome in. by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 28th Sep 2023 12:47pm)

  • OK, let me take this apart piece by piece... >Don't pay for an ADHD diagnosis, we've all seen the panorma (?) thing, its completely true, its a money making scam tbh. This is misleading; there is no evidence that private clinics are money making scams. In any case, the Panorama documentary you're referring to has been heavily criticised by various experts and ADHD charities who are concerned that the show will add to the stigma and discrimination those with ADHD already face, not improve it or otherwise help those affected. >You'll buy a diagnosis, rather than having a full MH assessment as to whether you have ADHD or not or another psych diagnosis, in which you would exclude yourself from the actual treatment you need if thats not the case. Not necessarily true. It's common knowledge that some NHS clinicians also work for private clinics, so it could be argued that the assessment you get privately could be fundamentally the same as one carried out by the NHS. >Yes, you can get the meds, but the changes in treatment mean your traditonals like uppers etc are also being phased out for non-stimulants, so even if you are prescribed meds, if you dont have ADHD, they will do nothing. Have you got a source for this? Why would the medical community choose to phase out a group of drugs that could be argued to have the greatest efficacy of any drug in psychiatric medicine? Also, as a medical professional you should know that referring to stimulant medication as "uppers" is misleading at best and potentially damaging at worst. >Go to your GP, wait on the list and then get proper help. At the end of the day its your health so best its done right. I think the charity ADHD UK summed this one up better than I ever could in their response to the Panorama ADHD documentary: >**NHS resourcing failures means for many private assessments are the only option.** > >Below are some of the countless cases we know of: > >\- A woman in South Wales was told by her GP that there was no local ADHD Assessment service. We helped her challenge it by requesting an Individual Funding Request, resulting in her GP saying “We do have an ADHD Assessment service, but it is so overwhelmed that we tell people that we don’t”. > >\- A woman in North Wales told she had a 7 year wait for an Assessment. She took the best job she could hold onto and saved for 11 months to afford a private Assessment to get the help and support she needed. > >\- A mother and son in England who both identified they likely had ADHD. They were told of a 3 year wait. The family could not wait as the son’s mental health was deteriorating and developing the first signs of suicidal tendencies. They could afford one private diagnosis so put the son forward for that. The mother remains on the waiting list and is seriously struggling. > >\- In Leicester a student identified he likely had ADHD. The waitlist for assessment was three years. He was finally diagnosed 4 weeks before his final exams. He has now been told he has a further 2-3 years to wait for medication. His entire University experience, his grade, and his life trajectory have all been altered by the NHS wait list and its failure to fulfil the NICE guidelines in a timely manner. > >\- In Coventry, the trust has set up “screening” between the referral (usually a school) of children and a formal Assessment. In the most recent figures that we have, screening was removing 92% of all girls. 152 were referred. 140 were removed from having an Assessment. We find it impossible to believe that those school referrals are 92% wrong. The lack of perceived importance of an ADHD assessment is depriving children of being able to understand themselves and get help. > >\- In York rather than expand their ADHD service to meet the needs of their population, they are formally restricting ADHD assessments to those who have become suicidal, are a threat to others, need a life-saving operation for which an Assessment is needed, or under the threat of family court action9. Our view is that it is an outrage that access to healthcare is filtered to only after you are suicidal and not before, after family court is involved not before, after damage is done not before. > >\- In Scotland they haven’t adopted the NICE guidelines, and withdrawn their own guidelines for being out of date, which means that there is no patient right to an ADHD Assessment and we are informed of areas with no adult ADHD services at all. > >There is no question in our mind that lives are being ruined and lives are being lost to suicide as a result of these failures. Calls to the charity from grieving parents further reinforce this view for us. > >The failure of the NHS to provide a timely ADHD Assessment service means that many are turning to private assessment services. They shouldn’t need to do so, but they’ve been failed. > >We have a significant concern that your programme will tarnish all private diagnoses and in doing so not only misrepresent the truth – as we believe the vast majority of diagnoses both private and NHS to be accurate – but also cause harm. > >\- Resulting in schools and companies rejecting a private diagnosis meaning individuals are not able to access the help they need. > >\- Resulting in increased stigma. Accusations that individuals who have ADHD are lying and have a fake private diagnosis. > >\- Resulting in individuals thinking they have no option but to wait for the NHS – often years - and suffer sometimes irreparable harm to themselves and their life while they do so. by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 28th Sep 2023 4:11pm)

There are people out there genuinely suffering and in crisis, but as a medical professional you feel obliged to recommend people stay away from private clinics when that might be their only option? And FYI, they weren't 'gotcha's'. I was stating facts, which is what actual professionals do when trying to back an argument. by madrockyoutcrop (Thu 28th Sep 2023 4:45pm)

  • It’s not that they’re unenforceable, but that would be for the court to decide if they feel you’re in breach of contract. However, unless you admit to the parking company that you were driving the vehicle on the date & time in question, they have no way of knowing if it was and you are under no obligation to inform them either way. by madrockyoutcrop (Sun 1st Oct 2023 11:48am)

Outside lane: Mostly BMW’s, Range Rover’s, Audi’s and Volvo’s etc doing at least 80 to 90mph. by madrockyoutcrop (Fri 17th Nov 2023 8:01pm)
