  • It's a new house so I'd rather pay someone to fit it, get it done properly. I don't have a saw/blade so buying all the tools needed would end up about as much as just paying someone. Lots of places sell the flooring but not many fit it. by glasgowburner (Wed 22nd Jan 2020 4:17pm)
  • It's a brand new house so I'm hoping the concrete will be level. Only reason for thinking 12mm is that I've had cheap/thinner stuff before but it never feels "solid" also, the skirting boards will be up and I'll need to fill the gaps with beading, less gaps if the laminated thicker. Any other differences apart from thickness? by glasgowburner (Wed 22nd Jan 2020 4:16pm)
  • Cheers for the suggestions, just an FYI The builder building the home quoted £9,000 to floor the living room and kitchen with porcelain tiles. £6000 for ceramic tiles. by glasgowburner (Wed 22nd Jan 2020 6:58pm)
  • Cheers, I'll take a look at the weekend. by glasgowburner (Wed 22nd Jan 2020 6:56pm)
  • Is that the same as the ones in B&Q that day "real wood top" I'm guessing it's just laminate with actual wood on top instead of a print. by glasgowburner (Thu 23rd Jan 2020 11:17am)
  • I didn't think of tiles either until I seen the show home. It's an open plan kitchen/living room so carpet is out of the question, and the porcelain tiles looked alright. A few rugs etc and it still looked homely. by glasgowburner (Thu 23rd Jan 2020 11:17am)
  • Sounds good to me, I don't mind buying it and getting someone like that to fit it 👍 by glasgowburner (Fri 24th Jan 2020 9:39pm)
  • There is a drop in clinic Ona. Wednesday night, 5-7pm, turn up and get seen, you don't need an appointment. by glasgowburner (Fri 31st Jan 2020 5:42pm)
  • This isn't true, Wednesday nights are drop in clinic, it's meant to be for gay men but you can still come along regardless, it gets busy but usually everyone gets seen. by glasgowburner (Fri 31st Jan 2020 11:19pm)
  • Lived in Barrhead a few years, seen this place and decided to look it up on facebook. It's one of these places that's constantly posting about being open till 10pm, seven days a week, although it's always shut when I drive past. They had an offer for a £5 haircut for your first few cuts, but didn't tell you it was with the "apprentice" and unsupervised. I cancelled after I learned this. Their mailing list is mental, the spelling mistakes are primary school level, and it's constant, nearly every day an email about cheap deals or being open seven days. The spelling tho, that's that one thing that put me off going there altogether. I know people who have created businesses and are dyslexic and even someone who can't write. But get someone who can to do it. It's one of these places where they are winning loads of "awards" but the awards are paid for. If you buy a table you get an award type of thing. Even business who "win" these things don't realise how much of a shame they are. "Best barber in east renfrewshire" which other barber attended the awards night? Oh that's right, only you, who paid £700 for a table 😂 by glasgowburner (Thu 27th Feb 2020 9:16pm)
  • It's good to know that other people know what he's up to. Still can't believe the "we are open till 10pm seven days a week" and then he moved to 11.45pm on Fridays and Saturdays. If you need to be open at 11.45pm on a Friday night, either your making 0 money or your clients are idiots. Every Time I drive past, his stupid Harley is parked outside on the pavement or the shops closed totally. (Even with a sign next to the door saying open till 10pm 🤣) It shouldn't get to me as much but lying and buying fake awards isn't the best business practice. by glasgowburner (Fri 28th Feb 2020 7:32am)
  • This- The Gym is the same. No wipes/sprays or towels. All staff wearing disposable gloves but I've never seen them clean the weights/dumbbells. Not to stereotype but most of the big muscle daddy's at the gym are the ones who don't take a towel, shit their brains out in the toilets and don't wash their hands. by glasgowburner (Mon 16th Mar 2020 8:00am)
  • Work in Travel in Glasgow, our industry won't even start recovering for at least 6-12months, the majority of us in my office will loose our jobs. We've been told we cannot work from home, which is understandable as we are loosing money everyday, and they'd rather keep an eye on us, but at some point you have to think of lives and not figures. Hopefully bojo changes things by Friday so we HAVE to work from home. by glasgowburner (Tue 17th Mar 2020 7:43pm)
  • They seem to be constantly recruiting for good looking roles, but then the job goes back up a few months later. There's been a graphic design job there near every month for the last couple of years, I'm convinced it's the same job and people only last a month at a time. by glasgowburner (Sun 22nd Mar 2020 9:35pm)
  • Nice to see Barrhead Travel have closed their stores but still making their staff come into work at their Oswald street offices. At some point, they are putting peoples life at risk, surely their insurance won't cover that if someone contracted it and died? by glasgowburner (Mon 23rd Mar 2020 2:21pm)
  • "Key staff" everyone else will probably be told they aren't getting paid for the business being closed during a lockdown by glasgowburner (Mon 23rd Mar 2020 4:04pm)
  • Yup, staff have been given laptops so they can work from home, they will not allow them to use them until a full lockdown. by glasgowburner (Mon 23rd Mar 2020 4:00pm)
  • I think if you've 100% had it, then 7 days after your first symptom you are no longer spreading it. NHS people will be able to explain it more but as far as I can understand once you start showing symptoms, that means your probably not transmitting anymore? Also, this relies on you 100% having COVID. If it's just a cold/flu or 24 hour bug (which you can get whilst being isolated.) by glasgowburner (Mon 30th Mar 2020 9:07am)
  • K&G roofing contractor not only parking like an Idiot, stopping key workers getting their cars out, but dropping the disposable plastic gloves in the street (making sure no one saw him) by glasgowburner (Wed 1st Apr 2020 3:06pm)
  • This is a total noob question but the graphics I've been shown show the swab goes all the way up your nose to the back of your throat? What happens if you have a blocked nose? by glasgowburner (Wed 20th May 2020 10:36am)
  • I think a lot of people who have been following the advice until now will be disappointed that it's "not over" we all know it'll be like this for months to come but I genuinely believe there are people out there who think from next Thursday they'll be able to take a wander into town to go clothes shopping or grab a coffee in town with a mate. I can't see any retail apart from takeaway food places opening until end of July in Scotland. I'll follow the guidelines but I know a lot of people will get pissed off that a lot of places are still closed and there's really nothing to do apart from stay home for the next few months. by glasgowburner (Thu 21st May 2020 3:23pm)
  • You can, you can do any work you want, whenever you want, you just can't work for the employer that's furloughed you. by glasgowburner (Thu 21st May 2020 4:56pm)
  • It's not well written but the "working outside contractual hours" only applies if your contract stipulates you can't have a second job. Even princes Charles was on the news this week telling people who are furloughed to apply for farm jobs, I doubt there are many farm jobs that aren't during 9-5 by glasgowburner (Thu 21st May 2020 5:06pm)
  • Thanks, as daft as it sounds I'm not bothered about the pay, I'd rather just be busy and doing something productive. It's something's I can stop/give up if I'm called back to work with only a few days notice, whereas other jobs I'd be tied in to giving notice etc. by glasgowburner (Thu 21st May 2020 6:17pm)
  • There was a pipe works post? by glasgowburner (Mon 25th May 2020 1:53pm)
  • Surprised the amount of shots of that staircase they use that they never got any of the dodgy guys that cruise in the toilets just off it. 😂 by glasgowburner (Wed 27th May 2020 4:29pm)
  • Does this mean I can drive from Pollock to the centre of Glasgow tomorrow; grab a takeaway coffee and go for a big walk around town/the green? by glasgowburner (Thu 28th May 2020 3:49pm)
  • Wish Rouken Glen park was like this today. At park full of flash expensive motors, families running about, using the play equipment/gym equipment along the path that wasn't marked as closed or out of order. I saw the outdoor elliptical machine get used by no fewer than 12 different kids in the space of 10 minutes. All of which then touched their face/mouth and parents. The parents didn't even see this as wrong, even when the playpark itself was shit. I couldn't help but think that all those flash motors in the car park, surely they have gardens? We were literally out for a walk because we live in a flat with no garden, kind of makes your blood boil. by glasgowburner (Sun 7th Jun 2020 7:11pm)
  • Someone on my Facebook has used the lockdown to basically visits all his mates, sit outside and drink all day, or go to a mates house and drink when the weathers not great. Few weeks ago he posted that his Gran had died, and the virus "was gonna get it" he went on a big rant about how she was his best mate etc etc, The funeral looked like it was a big pissup, and in the weeks since, he's been out everyday drinking again. The thing I don't understand is all the people making sure he was ok, "chin up" "she'd want you to be happy" etc. He was publicly in his grans house on social media a few weeks before she died, taking her shopping and drinking tea with her. Am I the only one who thinks this is madness? Folk who don't give a fuck but it'll be every cunt else's fault when someone they know dies from it? There's a strong chance he gave it to her, and he's doing it to everyone still! by glasgowburner (Mon 8th Jun 2020 9:42am)
  • I've already blocked him, my point is that there are going to be hundreds/thousands of him about. I genuinely think people are more concerned with if they can break the rules, bend them slightly, rather than catching the virus. They'd rather rebel against the lockdown for the sake of it. Not thinking of the virus at all. I bet a fair few folk wouldn't even know about the situation if it wasn't for the fact that McDonalds had closed. by glasgowburner (Mon 8th Jun 2020 9:56am)
  • Yeah, in my local Tesco, I don't think I've ever seen shoppers over the age of 40 wear a mask, and staff don't bother now either. Families treat it like a daily fun thing, walking to Tesco and back, not realising they are exposing their kids to it every day. There's a guy on my street, must be 70 at least, walks to Tesco every morning, buys a newspaper at the kiosk and goes homes. I still find that crazy in the middle of a pandemic. by glasgowburner (Mon 8th Jun 2020 11:04am)
  • You'll probably be aware but housebuilding has been stopped since the end of March, and still hasn't been given the greenlight yet. So if your looking at buying soon, the "move in" date range they give you will be wrong. They wont know timescales for a few weeks after they start again, and even then, workforce looks like it'll be running at about 35-50% for the next year. by glasgowburner (Wed 10th Jun 2020 12:10pm)
  • Sweet! I was looking at one of those machines! I'm guessing they don't update their bean to cup models very often. It's three times the price of a good espresso machine, is the coffee as good as a standard espresso machine? I love the fact that I wouldn't need a grinder, but if it's an inferior coffee, then I'd rather spend less and get an espresso machine with a grinder. by glasgowburner (Thu 11th Jun 2020 10:57pm)
  • It was his videos I was watching! I really like the look of the Swan retro style espresso machine, but he had said because it has a plastic seal in the head/gasket (apparently that's bad?) and the coffee didn't taste great? by glasgowburner (Thu 11th Jun 2020 11:16pm)
  • Which grinder did you go for? Looking online people seem to say blade grinders are not suitable for espresso and you need a ceramic burr grinder. by glasgowburner (Fri 12th Jun 2020 9:25am)
  • Not sure if it'll be related but kids set a building at the old UWS Robertson sports campus between Barrhead and paisley on fire on Monday. They put a gate up to stop cars going in but you can still walk around it, maybe the same again? by glasgowburner (Sat 20th Jun 2020 8:56pm)
  • Looks like Denny's at Braehead has gone. Inside cleared out and all signs apart from the main one are gone. A shame, they had the footfall off the back of the American brand, yet only hired people with zero experience in cooking or customer service. I know a guy who can't keep a job for more than three weeks, never cooked a thing in his life and got the job of supervising chef! by glasgowburner (Tue 30th Jun 2020 8:30am)
  • I think people expected American style service...in Renfrew. Even in America it has a sort of greasy spoon/frankie & bennies vibe, yet when you go over to the states you think it's amazing. They must have just bought a franchise opportunity, decided to build it near their home (Renfrew) and cheaper out on all staff/service. by glasgowburner (Tue 30th Jun 2020 11:18am)
  • Yeah, I'd heard they got rid of the majority of staff as soon as lockdown started. I know someone who got offered a job and was meant to start 1st April, and they got told the day before that the role is no longer required. by glasgowburner (Wed 8th Jul 2020 10:09am)
  • I've known two people to live there, one still does. The area has a reputation but it's not that bad. Yes there's unsocial things going on but they are all behind closed doors. The location can't be beat, if your looking for a friendly, west end vibe tho then your out of luck, it's the kind of place where you don't speak to your neighbours. Also, check council tax. It's extortionate. Low rent looks ok, until you add the council tax. by glasgowburner (Sat 11th Jul 2020 10:21pm)
  • Honest opinion. Looked at buying here last year, and the flats are really trendy and have a loft/apartment style look going on. Especially the ones overlooking the Clyde. We were put off by the location more than anything. Yes the views of the Clyde can't be beat. Even if it's govan your looking at. But it's not near the subway, and walking into Glasgow is a trek even along the footpath. I asked someone who lived there and worked in the city centre if they would recommend it. They said no, it's a pain getting home, busses are packed, and if you want to walk or cycle the exposed area means it's almost always windy. In the winter it can be a bit of a downer. Ended up looking at new gorbals/Richmond gate instead. Closer to Glasgow; for us anyway. by glasgowburner (Sun 12th Jul 2020 5:03pm)
  • This glasgow uni? I've got a few mates who are starting with them next week in their covid lab testing samples (as a lot of the staff doing it or volunteering are going back to uni or are off furlough) by glasgowburner (Tue 14th Jul 2020 9:56am)
  • Yeah it's 80% you receive for the entire duration you are on it. Next month the employer only has to pay the national insurance, (thinks it's usually 5% of their wage bill) then they put money towards your wage in September and October. by glasgowburner (Tue 14th Jul 2020 9:55am)
  • Yeah, our company went to remote working, there's no reason why they can't implement it forever. I think companies will want the physical address. So paying rent on a mostly empty building doesn't really make sense. I know a few companies who will never go back to their glasgow offices but keep them as meeting spaces. I do miss the commute (yeah I said it) but pulling into Glasgow central every morning was part of my routine. I'd rather work in an office than at home, but that's only because I feel I get more done at the office than the same time at home. by glasgowburner (Tue 14th Jul 2020 7:45pm)
  • Thanks everyone! Just checking to make sure it's not the worst place in the world to get to/nothing around it. Not sure what floor they are on, it's a video game testing/support company. by glasgowburner (Wed 29th Jul 2020 10:15pm)
  • Just noticed Mcghees crispy rolls are being sold in 4 packs instead of the usual "help yourself" style in supermarkets now. Much better idea, I did find it strange a few months back that people were still rummaging round and breaking rolls off with their bare hands. Put me off buying them. Missed em tho by glasgowburner (Fri 31st Jul 2020 12:03pm)
  • Jones Whyte are good, all online, don't have to take time off work to go in and prove identity or anything. They have a really good online portal for documents and stuff. by glasgowburner (Thu 13th Aug 2020 1:10pm)
  • I have also heard that Omada Corp glasgow jobs are a scam. #omadacorp by glasgowburner (Fri 14th Aug 2020 6:30pm)
  • People looking for jobs in Glasgow city centre will 100% agree that Omada Corp are a scam company. #highpressuresales by glasgowburner (Fri 14th Aug 2020 7:28pm)
  • See if your working from home and develop covid symptoms, should you tell your work? Do you have to stop working even tho it's in your own gaff? Obviously if it was in the office you'd be sent home for 14 days, but remote working, can they ask you to work from home during it? by glasgowburner (Fri 21st Aug 2020 4:14pm)
  • Similar thing in Southside, there is a place on just-eat called "stacks" it has the stack and still looking logo, and the address is the generic one for Silverburn Shopping Centre. Stack and Still have a branch there but they don't do deliveries. This place on Just eat is taking advantage of the fact they look and sound like Stack and Still but offer "fried foods" which the official stack and still don't do. All the reviews on Just eat say the same thing, food is cold, and looks like microwave/oven stuff from farmfoods. I reported it to Silverburn shopping centre, Stack and Still, and just eat. None of them done anything. by glasgowburner (Sun 30th Aug 2020 8:22pm)
  • That's the confusing part, bulk uplift is STILL going on, but they will Only touch something if it's on council adopted land. So back courts, gardens, private roads they will just cite covid as an excuse. But if it's on the path or road the council are picking it up again. I know the offices are still "closed" and most are working from home, but an outdoor job where wearing a mask is probably beneficial even before covid should surely still be going on! by glasgowburner (Mon 31st Aug 2020 10:44am)
  • Think most city centre gym will be very quiet, until offices open back up again. The Gym in Jamaica street has been almost empty all morning. by glasgowburner (Mon 31st Aug 2020 10:46am)
  • Yeah it's protected. The inventory is a grey area tho. We were given one when we moved in and told to go through it and sign it then post it to the letting agent. Basically there isn't a post office near us so we didn't do this and it was never sent. I'm ok paying for the carpets getting cleaned but it seems like if we are sticking to the contract, the landlord should too by glasgowburner (Thu 24th Sep 2020 4:57pm)
  • We told the letting agent when first enquiring about the place that we had an older housecat. She said she would speak to the landlord and see if it was ok. On the morning of us picking up the keys she said "oh I forgot to tell the landlord about the cat" and called him there and then, he said yes, as long as we sign a bit of paper to agree to getting the carpets professionally cleaned upon leaving. by glasgowburner (Thu 24th Sep 2020 5:34pm)
  • Thanks, I mean the flat is 99% perfect, much more so than it should be after 3 years with little/no alterations. The lettings woman emailed to say it was the cleanest vacated property she had ever seen and that the bathroom looked like new. We signed a quickly drafted bit of paper on moving day which said we would get the carpets professionally cleaned upon leaving. It was all last minute due to the fact the lettings agent "forgot" to tell the landlord we had a cat until after she handed the keys over. by glasgowburner (Thu 24th Sep 2020 5:39pm)
  • The lettings company only dealt with finding and replacing tenants, not anything in between. I think it's a one off payment the landlord does. Again it's a very small company run by a couple of retired women. by glasgowburner (Thu 24th Sep 2020 5:36pm)
  • I had something similar way back when Just Eat was new (10 years ago?) Got home starving around midnight and needed food, heard about Just Eat on the telly so went online and my local Indian was on there and showing as open till 12.15, so I hurriedly made an order. Nothing came, waited till 1am and no delivery, tried calling the shop, nothing, it was a 10 minute walk so I headed round while my mate stayed in the flat encase it came. Got to the shop and it was in darkness, they had shut early for the night and I could see the massive just eat receipt on top of the counter still in the handheld machine. Fair play to just eat they had live chat at 1am and said they would give me a credit for the food. by glasgowburner (Mon 28th Sep 2020 10:52am)
  • I saw this earlier too on Glasgow Live, although it's only team leads/managers positions available. Good for some folk tho! by glasgowburner (Mon 5th Oct 2020 6:44pm)
  • Didn't think they would take used mattresses? by glasgowburner (Mon 5th Oct 2020 7:37pm)
  • Cycled past it yesterday, looked totally empty. It says drive thru on the sign but it looks like you'd need to park in the car park and walk in? by glasgowburner (Fri 9th Oct 2020 12:53pm)
  • Yeah noticed this today as well, we got stopped at the door to wait until more people left, got in and there was no clear one way system, and people touching/picking up everything. Prices were very expensive as you said but I think this is a national travelling plant business and not a local one so it's to be expected. The one thing I was surprised at was the lack of variety. I'll 100% be checking out plant mama tomorrow tho, sounds ace. by glasgowburner (Fri 23rd Oct 2020 2:50pm)
  • We did contact the MP for the area two weeks ago, nothing heard back yet apart from the generic "thank you for your email" I understand there are more important things going on, but letting a new street get filled with rubbish and rats when all it needs is a bintruck to solve the issue shouldn't take this long. by glasgowburner (Sun 25th Oct 2020 2:18pm)
  • Yeah, they don't do their jobs for 3 weeks then complain that there's three weeks worth of rubbish. Being a new build area our blue bins are always full of cardboard. We were given 6 blue bins for 100 flats, so every resident has been contacting the council asking for their own. The thing that got me more than anything was that if I didn't do my job one day, and just ignored it, didn't tell my supervisor or manager, I'd be reprimanded. The bin men don't pick up an entire streets bins for 3 weeks, we had no contact from the council, no note to say why. Surely they have to report it to their manager/supervisor who then sends a truck ASAP to pick it up again, rather than rely on households complaining to them? by glasgowburner (Sun 25th Oct 2020 2:15pm)
  • Had one a week ago (home test) I put it in the postbox Tuesday night, it was delivered to the lab Wednesday morning and didn't get the result until the Sunday morning. by glasgowburner (Wed 28th Oct 2020 9:30am)
  • Recently had to do this as we bought a house mid September and the flat we rented was paid until the end of the month, we had to fill in a few forms and send them off, then got a call about 4 weeks later to ask for more proof. They needed council tax records for the new place to show we were living there, which is incredibly difficult as they hadn't even processed our request to end the council tax at our old place. We had a letter from GCC addresses to "the occupier" and even after setting up a direct debit, the confirmation came in the post to "the occupier" which they wouldn't accept. In the end we had to send them the mortgage paperwork, van rental and proof we had stopped paying our storage locker as proof we had moved! Have been told around 4 weeks now till they send me my "overpayment and refund for non occupation" for the old place which is around £300. Seems to be no rush from their side. by glasgowburner (Sun 1st Nov 2020 10:49am)
  • Just used it, it's there, go on the main council tax page and make sure you "agree" to the cookies at the top of the page or the live chat button won't appear down the bottom. by glasgowburner (Wed 4th Nov 2020 12:12pm)
  • Might be handy for someone? I applied in April and got offered the job but unfortunately also developed covid before starting so left. If you can read/write and don't mind working Nightshift then I'm sure they will take you on. You get taxi allowance for getting there/back and extra for working nights. by glasgowburner (Thu 5th Nov 2020 4:19pm)
  • I think back in April it was 2-10pm and 10pm-6am I'm not sure on the taxi amount, it was never given as an option until hey had trouble finding people who lived close enough that they didn't need public transport. They only ask that you can commit to 3 months at least or it's not worth them training you up. by glasgowburner (Thu 5th Nov 2020 6:59pm)
  • Not very, well, none of mine were contacted at all. by glasgowburner (Thu 5th Nov 2020 6:56pm)
  • I've heard about the crazy "masks must be work by teaching staff at all times" rule which is just before the "if you have deaf kids in your class, you cannot wear a mask" Seems like box ticking, paperwork but nothing to actually protect anyone within schools. by glasgowburner (Wed 18th Nov 2020 9:34am)
  • This. We have been in twice last year and the pizza is great. Anyway, ordered a delivery, first time from them. Hour and 15 later get a call to say the drivers been in a car accident, he's fine but they are remaking our food and sending it to us. An hour later it arrives, the boxes bashed, the dips were in small plastic pots that were melted to the top of the boxes. Pizza was stone cold. Called back and explained and they couldn't have been nicer. Turned out they were using new heater bags and placing anything on top of the boxes resulted in them being melted onto it. They apologised and refunded the food and gave us a discount for next time. Great staff but felt that the delivery side of things is secondary to the "paying customers" who visit the location. I think they use their own driver to deliver so they might have loads of deliveries in the one car, hence the 2.5 hour wait and cold pizza. by glasgowburner (Wed 18th Nov 2020 5:10pm)
  • Nah, told him that it was sold already. I kinda want to put a fake listing up so I can pretend to sell it and get cctv of whoever comes round for it. by glasgowburner (Fri 20th Nov 2020 8:13pm)
  • Isn't this version the only one that's meant to be kept at crazy temperatures? I think -70 or something? How are they going to do that and make sure it doesn't spoil between taking it out the freezer and being administered? I'm sure they will have processes but I can imagine trays of it sitting waiting to be used if the majority of the country are getting it. Imagine getting the vaccine but it didn't work because someone let it sit too long? by glasgowburner (Wed 2nd Dec 2020 1:54pm)
  • I'm sure the pound shops do these? Anything that's stopping being stocked in supermarkets usually finds its way there. Try b&m, farmfoods or Poundland by glasgowburner (Sun 6th Dec 2020 11:41am)
  • Yeah farmfoods is decent for a lot of obscure foodstuffs or imported stuff. I'd imagine if they still show as a product on their website that maybe it's one of these ones that does really well abroad and they mostly just export it? I'm sure someone on here said how Barr still make original Irn Bru but only for export. by glasgowburner (Sun 6th Dec 2020 11:46am)
  • Ordered a covid home test kit and it was sent yesterday from Amazon in Dunfermline (they must be helping distribute them) It then arrived in Warrington at 9pm last night to be sent to the Airdrie delivery office this morning and out for delivery now. Couldn't make it up. by glasgowburner (Fri 11th Dec 2020 12:16pm)
  • I'm 100% with you on this, people who can't/won't follow rules because they aren't being watched 24/7 are costing lives and dragging this out further. They don't realise this obviously. I've seen firsthand people on Facebook who went to raves and hung about with mates all throughout the first lockdown. People in their 20's/30's. Saying "fuck covid" and then posting touching tributes to their Gran who ended up dying with it, weeks after they posted snapchat videos of themselves visiting them because they always visit them. The same people then go on a huge rant about the virus and "I'm gonna kick its arse for taking her from me" when I'm sure they know it was most likely them who killed their Gran. Also, I know your not saying it but the amount of "why are shops so busy, are people stupid?" posts recently on here, when in reality if you weren't there there would be less people in shop. I'm sure I've said it on here before that I moved house a few months ago and went to IKEA on a Thursday morning to get a sofa. I queued for 30 mins while the woman and her young kid infront were on their phones the entire time, no masks, I ended up being behind them at the checkout, they purchased 1 candle. 1 candle, going to shops "for a wander" or to get "bread" needs to stop. I understand some people can't buy a big weekly shop and buy things daily, I get that, but if I have to do it I go 20 minutes before the shop shuts, when no one is around or get it delivered or ask a neighbour to grab some if they go. I've had people give me funny looks for walking down the street with my mask on, I mean it keeps your face warm but also it doesn't bother me. I'm not gasping for air, I'm not claustrophobic. It should be the "norm" but the macho, not scared of anything instinct seems to override this. by glasgowburner (Sat 12th Dec 2020 8:46pm)
  • I usually find a football pitch or go to the green to run on grass. Much easier than breaking a leg on the ice. by glasgowburner (Thu 24th Dec 2020 9:33pm)
  • Kind of want to go into Glasgow to see the muppets try to get into shops/Boxing Day sales when we are in lockdown. Bet there's a few folk go and wonder why the majority of shops are shut. by glasgowburner (Sat 26th Dec 2020 1:20pm)
  • Our bin schedules are all over the place this year. Flats get a different day to houses, even if they are on the same street, and recycling bins are the same. The last time our green bins and the houses recycling bins were due to be picked up the same day they sent one truck which took them both. It's a shame people go through the effort of spreading stuff and they just shove it all in the general waste truck. by glasgowburner (Sun 27th Dec 2020 11:19am)
  • If it's anything like the Asda ones in other places, it's out of order if the temp dips below 5 degrees. Otherwise the nozzle can freeze and potentially explode if you kept the trigger down. by glasgowburner (Sun 3rd Jan 2021 12:48pm)
  • If this lockdown means you need to change your life, then you've not been following the rules so far. Folk complaining that it's too far and no need to lock us down. What exactly is different for you? If "not leaving your home apart from essential reasons" means you have to change your daily routine then your the person to blame for this. I work from home, only Leave maybe once a week for shopping, once a day go for a lunchtime walk. This lockdown won't change that. What are you doing that causes so much resentment? by glasgowburner (Mon 4th Jan 2021 7:06pm)
  • Shouldn't people who are "exempt" from wearing face coverings at work be put onto furlough? If they can't do their job because of a disability then the safest thing to do is stay at home and pay them 80% (or 100% of the company tops it up) by glasgowburner (Mon 4th Jan 2021 7:55pm)
  • Anyone know anywhere near Gorbals that sells triple sec? Tried Tesco this morning and nothing, looking online not many places have it listed? by glasgowburner (Sat 16th Jan 2021 4:01pm)
  • Yeah had that this afternoon too, Glasgow green, becuase the marking on the paths have been washed away people forget the whole "stay on the left" mantra. I'm sure everyone got that trained into them at school but some folk seem hell bent on walking on the wrong side and going against the flow. by glasgowburner (Sun 17th Jan 2021 8:03pm)
  • I've got an arsehole neighbour who's X5 mysteriously got a new MOT on Friday despite it sitting out my window all day. Checked the cctv and yup, never left that spot for at least 4 days. Who do I report it too? by glasgowburner (Sun 17th Jan 2021 8:05pm)
  • That's my usual route too, will need to keep an eye out. I've been going either early morning or just before sunset to try and stay clear of the path hoggers. Even today just walking that route I counted 3 families within a few minutes of each other, all sprawled across the path. Do the parents say to their kids to move out of the way? Nah, why should they teach their own kids manners and common sense? 😂 by glasgowburner (Sun 17th Jan 2021 10:22pm)

  • They cleared that minging water yet? by glasgowburner (Wed 20th Jan 2021 12:05am)
  • Yeah, it looked like before lockdown someone emptied the water but didn't leave the outlet open so months of rain filled it and turned it green. Guessing whoever deals with it was furloughed. by glasgowburner (Wed 20th Jan 2021 11:48pm)
  • This stuff really boils my piss. I love the people who volunteered their time to be a clydesider, and still wear the kit till this day. I know a few people who worked for Glasgow 2014 and Jack Morton. Towards the end of the games there was an email went round stating they were over £30 million under budget, with a strong implication to use it. So much money was wasted and yet not a penny paid to the volunteers. Not even a hint of giving the money to charities or communities or legacy. It's been a while so I'm sure I'm safe to say, some Glasgow 2014 staff who used the cash to go on holiday in 2015 under the excuse of "interviewing participants" from around the world for a follow up which never happened. Loads of staff got bonuses for a job well done. Why am I very bitter? I volunteered to be in the closing ceremony, I travelled 70 miles each way to training for it (over 20 days in total) with the promise of expenses for fuel. It wasn't until after everything was done my claim was rejected because I "didn't live far enough away". My friend who lives 5 miles from me qualified and got £2000 for fuel and travel. Loads of people from down south came up for 3 weeks to "volunteer" and I met at least 5 of them who had said Glasgow 2014 paid for a hotel and travel for them for the entire time. Yet the ones living in Scotland didn't qualify. by glasgowburner (Thu 21st Jan 2021 10:18pm)
  • Is this just me, but why are people still paying hundreds or thousands of pounds for dogs? Why not get a rescue dog? Why not ask your local vet for recommendations on a breeder if you are 100% going to buy one? I have no sympathy for anyone that buys an animal, just feel sorry for the dog. by glasgowburner (Sat 30th Jan 2021 11:41am)
  • Oh I have, I just can't understand why you "need" a dog so much that you bought it. No rescues that would live with two cats, how do the cats feel about the new dog? It might change them for good. They might never settle having a puppy in the house. So again, why did you "need" a dog? Why not wait until the cats pass on then look at getting a rescue? Buying from a breeder only gives them cash to breed more. Especially in the middle of a pandemic and lockdown, was a puppy from a breeder an essential purchase? by glasgowburner (Sat 30th Jan 2021 11:48am)
  • I know your trying to warn people of buying a dog from this "guy" and not to do it. The only reason I'm asking is to understand why someone would do that at this time. by glasgowburner (Sat 30th Jan 2021 11:53am)
  • I'm genuinely interested to hear why you need a dog, during a lockdown, while you have other pets in the home. I know you have been scammed and the poor puppy is the main victim in this. I just don't understand the need to buy a dog right now. by glasgowburner (Sat 30th Jan 2021 11:51am)
  • Thank you, that's one of the ones I had on my list, do you mind me asking what height/size you went for? by glasgowburner (Thu 25th Feb 2021 3:40pm)

  • Funny I'm in Gorbals and heard nothing but helicopters all night, could be someone in the river but around 4.30 today I saw a group of about 20 lads, some with baseballs bats and a couple with staffys on leads walking along the Clyde towards Dalmarnock. Organised fight? by glasgowburner (Sat 27th Feb 2021 8:17pm)
  • I think because it's an enclosed space, they only allow NHS staff to use it to access the secc. Think people attending for an appointment have to walk the detour. There is security at the station end anyway who are checking IDs. by glasgowburner (Sun 28th Feb 2021 12:58pm)
  • Seen a lot of this the past few days. People on the coast, Loch Lomond or up a mountain which is nowhere near them. I understand if you drive straight there and back there isn't much of an increased risk, however if you stop at the services/use a public toilet/walk along heavily congested routes there's still a chance it can spread. I think people still don't understand they can have it but not have any symptoms. by glasgowburner (Sun 28th Feb 2021 1:01pm)
  • Anyone know if pc world Braehead allows you to walk up to collect? I've reserved a few things but don't have a car, planning on walking. by glasgowburner (Sun 14th Mar 2021 9:09pm)
  • iPhone app link: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/myglasgow-glasgow-city-council/id539391208 Website: https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=17112 We shouldn't need to do this, but it works and hopefully if enough of us on this Reddit group start doing it, they will see a spike in submissions and start to see exactly how much work they have to do. by glasgowburner (Sat 20th Mar 2021 2:10pm)
  • I'm not saying the council should know about every issue and fix it before people complain, but simply highlighting that if there are issues on your street/journey to work/walk in the park, we should be reporting them so the council know. Too many people think "ah well someone will have reported that" but in many cases they haven't. To put my points into context. Next to where I live, there's a road, with a footpath next to it. All the gulleys/drains on the road and blocked to the top with silt/sand/dirt. Anytime it rains the left hand lane of the road floods completely and the footpath too, it's dangerous for pedestrians to walk past this as there are walls of water every time a car goes past, making the footpath unusable for most of the winter. I reported it last week, the council came out, unblocked one of the gulleys and marked the job complete. Left all the rest of them on that street which were only a few meters away from the one they unblocked. Called the council, got put through to be told that I only reported the one drain and to report them all if they are all blocked. That's an instance where I can't believe no one from the council hadn't walked/driven this route in the rain and saw it, reported it for the entirety of six months as it's opposite a council run refuse site. Even when I did, they done as little work as possible because the other drains "weren't reported" despite being physically blocked. by glasgowburner (Sat 20th Mar 2021 2:52pm)
  • Reported a dead swan in a pond at Christmas, got an email last week saying it had been collected. Right. by glasgowburner (Sat 20th Mar 2021 3:02pm)
  • They can't pick a bin up on time or fix potholes, you think they spend their Saturdays on Reddit talking about work? If anything more people reporting issues is more work with less money, it's not in their interest so I'm not sure what yer point is? by glasgowburner (Sat 20th Mar 2021 5:08pm)
  • This is the point I'm making, they know the scale of the issue, but at the end of the month on their spreadsheets they've got 90% of jobs complete in time. This doesn't take into account the many streets and bins overflowing with waste, the services cut back and the idiocy of it all. If somethings not been reported it can't bring their average score down. by glasgowburner (Sat 20th Mar 2021 5:06pm)
  • Oh the app is 100% terrible, but they have no need to make it better, I'm sure the drop off rate for reporting issues is huge, don't get me started on why some services need MyscotGov accounts and massively secure passwords to log a missed bin report! 🙄 by glasgowburner (Sat 20th Mar 2021 5:10pm)
  • Brilliant! Yeah the website and app are terrible, but again I think that's on purpose. I'm still finding things to report on my daily commute from broken bottles on footpaths to streetlights out to blocked drains and such. It's a brilliant feeling seeing it getting fixed days later. The more we report the more it will reflect in the council stats/allocation of funds. by glasgowburner (Sat 20th Mar 2021 5:31pm)
  • Right? I'm not sure why they didn't choose to serve click and collect from the door? They do it for the Uber/deliveroo couriers. Sure some location in the city centre would be a bad idea, people complaining that they don't have the app and "just want a plain burger" waving cash around. But surely the ones with drive thrus have the space to let people order on the app and wait till they are called? by glasgowburner (Wed 7th Apr 2021 6:08pm)
  • Yeah, It will still charge you a delivery fee and the courier will be confused as hell 😂 I've seen people get into a taxi in the finnieston branch car park to go in the drive through! Cheaper than delivery I guess. by glasgowburner (Wed 7th Apr 2021 6:28pm)
  • Your assuming that you'd be fast enough to order/get your own order for pickup. Lines of couriers standing outside McDonald's constantly refreshing. by glasgowburner (Wed 7th Apr 2021 6:54pm)
  • I'm 99% sure that's just for couriers etc. They've always been waiting outside at trongate whereas other McDonald's allow the courtiers inside to collect. by glasgowburner (Wed 7th Apr 2021 7:28pm)
  • So you "messaged them"? How do you know them? How did you get their number? Have you done things for them in the past? I'd go to the police, report your work equipment stolen and get a decent bolt on your front door. Any noises call the police straight away and they won't bother you again. by glasgowburner (Thu 8th Apr 2021 12:47pm)
  • Just be careful of leaving it at the side of a full bin or infact any of these unattended clothing banks. Not too long ago people were fishing out clothes from them to sell on/sell in bulk. Saw a car pull up to the Sainsburys Darnley one once and pick up every bag around it, then opened the little hatch and pulled out everything they could. by glasgowburner (Fri 9th Apr 2021 11:02am)
  • Thanks for this! Just completed it. Would be a travesty if they removed the lanes! by glasgowburner (Thu 10th Jun 2021 7:32pm)
  • This! Got a megabus from Dundee to London around 10 years ago. Ended up paying for the train back. While it didn't seem like it was too bad at first, the constant stopping to let people on/off, grab luggage and fight with the driver if the ticket they had was expired or the wrong day, all annoyed the hell out of me. We got to London about 10 minutes early but at 7am on a Monday morning (Sunday night was the cheapest bud if I remember) we only just realised that it was 8 hours before we could check in to the hotel. Tried asking for early (paid) check in but it didn't have that option. That day was the worst. Trudging round London with luggage and just wanting a shower and a place to sit down, I'd honestly pay the extra to fly or get the train on the day. Ever since that day I've always made sure I arrive at my destination for around the same time as check in. by glasgowburner (Sat 26th Jun 2021 10:06am)
  • Walked into town at lunchtime time, Glasgow green/court area was thick with green flares/smoke. Any idea what was going on? by glasgowburner (Sat 17th Jul 2021 2:58pm)
  • Went to the new St Enoch Vue a few weeks ago to see Black Widow on release day. We usually get seats up the back (no one behind you) but it also seems to attract the folk who think they can then sit on their phones the entire time since no one is behind them. Why pay for a movie when you check your phone every 2 minutes? Also had a couple who were obviously going from screen to screen all day and had a massive bag of food from Tesco they were gradually grazing into. Then took a call halfway through the film and sauntered out, never came back, never wore masks, left all their rubbish behind. by glasgowburner (Wed 28th Jul 2021 1:16pm)
  • So the drains on the road near me that overflow and flood the road and pavement any time it rains have unsurprisingly flooded the past two days, makes walking down that road impossible. Reported it multiple times to the council since January and nothing been done. Has anyone seen the council unblocking road drains or any drains for years? Even got Scottish water involved and they reported it to the council but nothings been done for 6 months. by glasgowburner (Sun 8th Aug 2021 8:33pm)
  • What gets me is, we work, live next door and are friends with them. It's not like they come out from under a rock (well most of them) so why do they think it's acceptable? I know it's mostly an age thing and hopefully this dies out sooner rather than later. I'm guessing family peer pressure is the only thing fuelling people to join and participate. by glasgowburner (Sat 18th Sep 2021 10:08am)
  • Already walked through town from central to the river to get home. Heard a bunch of them shouting homophobic slurs to a couple of guys walking along the river just having a coffee. I'm sorry but marching in a parade playing a flute is pretty gay, so why judge others? Why can't we leave all the Gay Pride banners up on the routes they are going and have a few hundred of us show up shouting happy gay pride? I'm sure they would re-route pretty quickly 😂 by glasgowburner (Sat 18th Sep 2021 10:05am)
  • Take a PCR test, loads of people I know have had flu like symptoms and negative lateral flow tests, took a pcr and positive. Flu/cold symptoms seem to be what you get if it's mild. by glasgowburner (Sun 19th Sep 2021 2:35pm)
  • You don't need to leave the house. Order an at home PcR test on the government website and it'll be with you tomorrow. You do it, send it back (drop off at a local postbox) and get your result usually next day. by glasgowburner (Sun 19th Sep 2021 2:41pm)
  • No worries, a lot of people think there's only later flow tests or a test centre. The at home PCR tests are exactly the same as the test centre ones and the instructions are pretty good on how to do it. Anytime I've done them I got the results back the day after posting them. by glasgowburner (Sun 19th Sep 2021 2:47pm)
  • If anyones interested, they are looking for folk to work hospitality for COP26. 12 days of work, 7-6, £10.50 per hour. Obviously you'll be checked before working and it's not for everyone but handy for someone I'm sure. It's via HAP solutions group. by glasgowburner (Wed 22nd Sep 2021 12:31pm)
  • Anyone know what's going on in Glasgow Green? As soon as the Trnsmt trucks left the show people moved in and have rides/caravans and fenced off a large part of the green (including some footpaths) looks a bit rushed and I'm not sure if they are meant to be there? Also the amount of streetlights out on the Victoria bridge at night is shocking, only one out of the 6 works. Not to mention the LED strips along the sides are 95% off or broken which makes it look like some horror attraction (why light the bridges red?) by glasgowburner (Thu 23rd Sep 2021 10:00am)
  • Those are some good quiet toilets in princes square, 3rd floor. Although if you want really quiet, try the Jury's Inn toilets on the 1st floor opposite the meeting rooms, always dead. Also you guys realise this post is literally naming every 'cruising' spot in town right? I mean who else is looking for a quiet toilet where there's no-one about? 🤤 by glasgowburner (Mon 11th Oct 2021 9:56am)
  • Good for them. Although the majority of people don't get wage rises or reviews, I've been on the same wage for 5 years. What about people in service industry jobs who can't strike? I see a lot of people arguing that the directors of scotrail or the council are paid handsomely so they can use that to raise the pay of their workers. It won't happen. If pay goes up, headcount goes down or departments merged. I've seen a lot of people on Facebook screaming for scotrail to be nationalised now. Yes the director is on an insane amount of money £200k plus a year. But even giving all that towards the wage bill it is pennies per person. All that will happen is prices go up to cover the wages, less services and when the government take over scotrail next year, they take on the money put that it is. Taxes go up to be able to support it. Some people believe that nationalising scotrail will make it cheaper and increase wages for the staff. The government will have to manage it by minimising loss, so less services, less staff, higher prices. They can't run it in a deficit or upgrade/improve service while in the public hands until it makes money. Same goes for the binmen. Higher wages means less staff. The council leader won't take a pay cut, and even then it won't cover any wage increase. All that will happen is Glasgow gets dirtier, binmen get more money but are stressed to fuck by having less of them and council tax goes up to cover it. Then the cycle starts again, more money needed for a stressful job. Why not raise the National minimum wage? If they are earning above that then I don't see the problem, if they are unhappy that the cost of living is rising but they don't get more money then maybe look at retraining and getting a job with progression prospects? There are millions of people with minimum wage jobs who can't strike, have never had a wage increase and can be fired at the drop of a hat with little red tape. Unlike the council. by glasgowburner (Fri 15th Oct 2021 12:11pm)
  • I get that, but how many bin-men are on minimum wage? I'd be mighty surprised if any of them are. Don't you get an crease with length of service at the council? by glasgowburner (Fri 15th Oct 2021 2:30pm)
  • Heard it in the Gorbals last night for two hours, first time I've heard it, loud enough to keep me up. by glasgowburner (Wed 20th Oct 2021 8:23am)
  • Anyone ever heard of Do Tank? Saw they were advertising for a junior web dev role but with a decent salary. Looking the company up online only really shows an American company, and a uk company check reveals it's worth £1 (with some questionable director changes and address changes) looks like it's the brothers of the bbc scotland journo Chris McLaughlin. Anyone heard of them? by glasgowburner (Sat 23rd Oct 2021 5:08pm)
  • Partner got it a week ago, really bad cough and tired all the time. Been for two PCR tests and both negative. No signs of it leaving, sweats at night and constant cough/runny nose during the day. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a new covid/flu variant. I had my flu jab two weeks ago which is probably what has stopped me getting it for over a week. by glasgowburner (Sat 23rd Oct 2021 7:01pm)
  • Looks like the bin strike talks have failed today. Council threatening GMB with legal action. To be fair to the council they have released it messages/dates/times of what's happened over the last few days but it seems the gmb is really aggressively going against them. Now the council are hiring private contractors and billing the Gmb? Seems like both sides are really not backing down. It's a shame for the lads but also the people of Glasgow who need to live with the overflowing bins for now. by glasgowburner (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 5:28pm)
  • Nowhere in scotland is doing walk-ins for boosters. Any walk ins you see are for first or second doses. There are still people wanting the initial doses, I guess it'll be the new year before any type of booster walk in opens. by glasgowburner (Wed 15th Dec 2021 9:49pm)
  • Yeah, they keep saying that they have received a request to not deliver toy address today (flat) so I guess this is just a message to hide the backlog? by glasgowburner (Wed 22nd Dec 2021 4:13pm)
  • Morning! Anyone got any advice on how to deal with really nice neighbours who got a new sound system last month? It's not so much the volume as the Bass which is vibrating everything. Even the neighbours 3 floors above can hear it clear as day. The building is concrete sub floors so the sound seems to travel via that rather than direct. Really nice folk and I don't hear them watching TV it's just the same music played every day (think after they've had a drink) but it's proper loud to the point it does my head in. by glasgowburner (Tue 28th Dec 2021 9:19am)
  • I'll give them a shout next time I bump into them, just play it down as a jokey "did you get a new sound system for Christmas then?" Kind of thing. Don't hear a peep any other time, just the same tracks every day pumped up to 11. Got a feeling their subwoofer is up to max and against the shared wall or a building support. by glasgowburner (Tue 28th Dec 2021 9:31am)
  • Yup, i was furious when I saw they were opening a Glasgow bar. Got loads of publicity via the usual Glasgow Live stories etc, pretends he's a big man with money but doesn't pay people. I bet everything in that Glasgow bar is yet to be paid for. It seemed to take almost two years for the inside to be refurbished, thinking he's got it all done by 'mates' and stiffed the rent. Don't go here folks. Or buy the clothing which is all stolen ideas. by glasgowburner (Fri 7th Jan 2022 3:18pm)
  • If you aren't familiar with them: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/award-winning-fashion-boss-accused-7201438.amp by glasgowburner (Fri 7th Jan 2022 3:15pm)
  • Apprently they are opening a bar in London this year. Covent Garden from the stories. That business model in that location is going to be interesting. He made money in the east of scotland for being one of the only alternative clothing retailers/bar for that market but down south the competition is fierce. I still think the Glasgow bar was strange. Their social media makes it come across as a very spice boy/influencer type of place when the Dundee bar was nothing like that. The style doesn't fit the market they are aiming for. by glasgowburner (Fri 7th Jan 2022 3:49pm)
  • Exactly, the audience in the Glasgow bar is totally Different from the Dundee one. At least in Dundee it was one of the only alt bars, something different. Here they've just hired a generic bar social media person to get the insta crowd and spice boys in but the decor is more suited to the alt crowd. Interestingly with the Dundee bar, they never started or took over the locations tripadvisor page when it changed from being Jam Jars I think? So people couldn't leave negative reviews for it. Think it changed recently but another shitty tactic to get money out of folk. by glasgowburner (Fri 7th Jan 2022 4:19pm)
  • Just an update, looks like they have thrown the toys out of the pram and closed one of their busiest venues just to spite staff. https://twitter.com/fairhospitality/status/1479822882662502402?s=21 by glasgowburner (Sat 8th Jan 2022 4:37pm)
  • What a piece of crap those Abandon Ship lot are. Closed their busiest venue because the majority of staff there are signed up to the union. Asked them to hand back their keys and said it was due to other issues such as covid. Strange how all the directors went from being LinkedIn wanks to private profiles on social media overnight. by glasgowburner (Sun 9th Jan 2022 8:55am)
  • The king of Islington in Dundee. Rumours that it's the most profitable but also 100% of staff there back the action/union. Tells you everything. by glasgowburner (Sun 9th Jan 2022 9:31pm)

  • Have a friend on social media who's whole family got covid end of last week. He was bragging that his pcr came back negative so he was in town and at the cinema/shopping all day Saturday. Felt like death Sunday and got a pcr again, came back positive this morning. Is it really too hard to ask someone to take a day or two and do nothing? by glasgowburner (Mon 17th Jan 2022 8:26am)
  • It's more the case that he lives with 4 folk, all positive, no way to isolate within the house but still thought it was a great idea to go to Cineworld on Saturday (maskless) and hang out with mates. Common sense should come into it. If everyone in your house has covid, maybe just wait a few days to make sure you don't get it? by glasgowburner (Mon 17th Jan 2022 9:34am)
  • Same, although i feel it's worse if your in sales. It's true that they are outdated. They prefer selling to a person face to face rather than online. They've updated their website recently and it's actually usable now to the point where a lot of the holidays are cheaper than booking direct. Management are terrible, they are so far removed from the real world. They took on a bunch of ex Thomas cook execs as advisors when it went bust and they do nothing, literally all used it as a stepping stone to work from home in the English countryside and find a new job. I had to laugh during the first lockdown when Barrhead took part in the travel day of action. President of the company outside Scottish Parliament with a placard demanding help from the government on the TV and her £1000+ handbag at her feet. Oh and FYI any staff who aren't sales staff are still working for the nhs doing test and protect. Barrhead don't pay their wages. They only brought sales staff back to rake in the money. I can see that it's needed (most holidays aren't paid off until a few weeks before departure, which means they won't get any kind of actual cash until April/May.) They also made half the workforce redundant over the last year (when they started having to contribute to furlough) by glasgowburner (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 9:23am)
  • I think he's making a pretty tempting deal to the promoters/bands. Probably a large share of the same ticket sales so he doesn't have to pay a huge deposit for the bands upfront. Then he cancels it last minute, tells the band and pockets the cash. He might refund some people but you'd be amazed the amount of folk that forget or don't bother asking for refunds for cancelled gigs. Even if 10% of the thousands of ticket sales don't ask for a refund he banks a small fortune and rinse, repeat. by glasgowburner (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 2:38pm)
  • They'll not show the traffic at all, most places will digitally replace the background without the need of a huge green screen. by glasgowburner (Thu 10th Feb 2022 8:54am)
  • The website listing the official contact number as a UK mobile number is a dead giveaway it's a scam. Most likely a drop shipper or just someone trying to make some extra cash. • Anyone else think Putin has been given some bad news lately? Cancer? This all seems a bit last ditch in an effort to create some kind of legacy and cement his name in the history books. • JD gym in the Gorbals is good. 24 hour with a steam room and decent classes. Yeah between 6-8 it'll be busy but go out with these times and it's pretty much dead. Cheap too but doesn't have a pool. by glasgowburner (Mon 28th Feb 2022 5:01pm)
  • I'm lucky enough to live with my significant other and they have a similar wage to what I'm on now. Ideally I'd just have to stop spending the £100 a month I set myself as a splurge fund, where I'll go buy new clothes or shoes once a month up to that value, but with bills rising quickly I'm pretty sure other costs will rise over the new few months. by glasgowburner (Wed 2nd Mar 2022 7:31pm)
  • Just to answer a few questions. So my current employer had me on furlough for a year then they seconded me to the NHS to work on test & protect. That contract ends next week and the employer has said that they need extra time in place to bring back everyone to the company so have forced us all to take a weeks annual leave before coming back. It's annoyed a lot of people and the fact I've not done my job for over two years is concerning. The people that have been brought back already are doing the jobs of two or three people due to redundancies. The new company I applied for is public sector and in their words "much quieter" so yes, I'd have a simplified life but less pay. Commuting time is about the same and both roles are hybrid working. Pensions id need to check. by glasgowburner (Wed 2nd Mar 2022 8:01pm)
  • My only concern is this is for a public sector role, can those be negotiated? by glasgowburner (Wed 2nd Mar 2022 8:33pm)
  • This, current job could go sideways at any time. But new one is public sector and more stable. I'm going to look at asking them for a salary increase tomorrow and see what they say. by glasgowburner (Wed 2nd Mar 2022 11:05pm)

  • Thanks to everyone who gave me advice a few weeks ago about going for a job that was lower paid than my current one. Asked for more money, they offered it! Two weeks left at my current place and I'm really struggling to give a damm. I had all intentions of working solidly for two weeks and it's just a bit 'meh'. by glasgowburner (Fri 11th Mar 2022 8:57am)
  • Ah that's awesome! Congratulations, I think a switch flips when your working your notice period, does anything at all matter? The company I'm currently at usually asks people to leave straight away or work a reduced notice but I'm glad I get some extra pay for little to no work. by glasgowburner (Fri 11th Mar 2022 9:43am)
  • Forgot to post when it happened but after two years of chasing the council to fix the newly refurbished LED 'old lamps' on the Albert bridge near Glasgow green, the council came and fixed them all one day before the bridge shut for batgirl filming...crazy. by glasgowburner (Fri 18th Mar 2022 9:34am)
  • So our neighbour power washed the communal door yesterday after doing his car and it blasted off the ambient light sensor to switch on our lights at night. • I see the TLC gig at Junction 1 is being advertised as 02 academy now. Surprise surprise. 😂 by glasgowburner (Sun 10th Apr 2022 11:22am)
  • Yeah, Halfords are bad for this, buy a £2000 bike and they'll sell you a £10 crappy wire lock because they have targets to meet. Rule of thumb, spend 10% of the total bike price on a lock, it might sound crazy but thief's will also take the easiest option, you just need to make your bike harder to steal than others around it. Any lock that has a wire/cable is useless. by glasgowburner (Sun 10th Apr 2022 10:04pm)
  • Looks like Junction 1 are at it again, within the space of two days they've advertised a summer festival 'lineup soon' then the lineup the next day and now tickets are on sale. Kelis and Groove Armada seem like big names but I've got a feeling it'll be rescheduled closer to the event and the names on the billing haven't agreed to do it, they just done this with TLC who are now playing 02 academy. by glasgowburner (Thu 14th Apr 2022 1:55pm)
  • Yeah, still, they should have notified you in advance. I know the batgirl production was pretty good with alerting people well in advance for shooting and even accommodating filming around the residents needs. by glasgowburner (Thu 21st Apr 2022 10:04pm)

  • Walked from Glasgow green to central this morning around 8.30am and the cycle lane was packed, lots of cyclists travelling quicker than the cars along broomielaw in the cycle lane. Great to see, especially when any announcement of new "people first" street design gets the usual "they are always empty" response from Karens who drives to the corner shop and leaves the engine running while she's in there... by glasgowburner (Thu 14th Jul 2022 10:17am)
  • I know it's been on/off with Junction 1 the last few weeks but if anyone has tickets to AVH this weekend then the stage at Junction 1 is being torn down today. Maybe a new one for Saturday? Not sure but i wouldn't put it past them to cancel and keep selling tickets. by glasgowburner (Mon 8th Aug 2022 4:22pm)
  • Yet another Junction 1 post but anyone with tickets for this weekend might want to keep an eye on things before you travel. They have removed their main stage (hire company spent all day Monday working late to get it away) and they are now selling tickets buy one get one free for this weekend. Also this: https://mobile.twitter.com/bectu/status/1557036700936830977 Seems they ain't paying suppliers again. by glasgowburner (Wed 10th Aug 2022 7:32am)

  • Yeah got it in the trongate store this morning. It used to be the Quaker pots but it always took an age to arrive if there was a queue. Glad they have ditched them. Staff always looked pretty annoyed when you ordered it. This new stuff seems pre made and chilled and they just warm it up when ordered. Best fast food style porridge I've tried. Seems like the same stuff greggs sold before covid, fresh & made with milk. Rather than instant oats. by glasgowburner (Fri 12th Aug 2022 2:27pm)
  • That's junction 1 announced Armen van helden isn't coming tonight now, despite the stage being removed on Monday and they are still selling tickets for it. Stinks of 'let's get all the cash we can before folding' by glasgowburner (Sat 13th Aug 2022 11:30am)
  • Walked past the taxi rank at George square yesterday, an Asian guy who was pulling a suitcase and spoke little English showed his phone to the taxi driver at the front of the queue and all I heard was "cash only mate, I don't take card, is that ok?" And they wonder why more people are choosing Uber than black cabs? by glasgowburner (Sun 14th Aug 2022 9:01am)
  • Who's ready for the flooding today then? Councils still dragging their feet cleaning drains during the dry weather, so what's a bet the blame "unexpected torrential rains which the sewer system can't cope with" Despite all the gulleys having full on bushes growing out them. by glasgowburner (Mon 15th Aug 2022 8:18am)
  • Really? It's good to hear they are actually doing it. I've been complaining about ones on a dual carriage way next to me that flood and block the road/pedestrian paths every time it rains. For over two years and I've gone as far as my MP and FOI to the council. Every time is "sorry, due to miscommunication working the department we haven't done this yet, we will get it done within the next 7 days" then nothing. FOI revealed GCC have two drain cleaning machines with more on order (unknown delivery time) but the issue is a shortage of staff to do it. by glasgowburner (Mon 15th Aug 2022 8:56am)
  • Warning - junction 1 post! They are at it again, gig scheduled for tonight has been moved to Audio. Although their website doesn't say that and tickets are still being sold by them. by glasgowburner (Wed 17th Aug 2022 7:25am)
  • Annual reminder: it's starting to get dark at nights now and the amount of streetlights that don't work start to become apparent. Report them! Visited a friend in woodlands this week and his street was in almost total darkness due to 5 street lights being out, asked him about it and it's been like that for about two years. I reported it in the GCC app and two days later they were all replaced and working. Just shows no one had actually bothered to report it even with around 100 tenements on the street. It's not just a visibility thing, but makes the streets safer. by glasgowburner (Sun 18th Sep 2022 11:57am)
  • Been to this place last week for lunch, wanted some food/coffee but all the tables were taken up by students on laptops, most didn't even have a drink infront of them, not sure how this place makes money if it's like that all day. by glasgowburner (Thu 22nd Sep 2022 9:50pm)
  • So he paid him to sing/perform? Not sure how the house deposit is relevant, although it's Gregor so it's probably made up. Guys doesn't even have a middle name but added 'hunter' to sound cool. I still remember 10 years ago when he was part of Glasgows own 1 direction attempt. He was working at AXM at night as a promo lad, and would chat up gay guys on Grindr to get them to come into the club with promise of meeting him and getting him a drink. In reality he just wanted numbers in the door and would block them as soon as they had paid entry. by glasgowburner (Thu 18th May 2023 10:51am)

  • Good luck. Ive been on at GCC for years to unblock the drains on our street that flood the entire road every time it rains. Nothing gets done, the tickets are still sitting there 'open' for almost 3 years now. Surely the council get shafted for missing SLA? I complained to the local MP who got a response pretty sharpish, they came out, unblocked one drain with a big gully cleaner then fucked off. So within weeks the rubbish that couldnt get in every other blocked drain flowed right into the unblocked one and blocked it up again. I made an FOI to the council on how many gulley cleaners they have to unblock drains. Two. One is broken. They have plans to rent two others but no date for when that will happen, so literally one gulley cleaner for the entire Glasgow area, doing the bare minimum. Someone had suggested that that people running that were part time bin lorry workers too so that's why nothing seems to get done. if you want it expedited, try calling the council, they'll take a little report over the phone and make sure you say the water is getting close to private property. theyll be there within days. by glasgowburner (Wed 21st Jun 2023 10:31am)
  • yup, you only need to watch any 'live' stream from GL and their jornos are basically school leavers on work experience. who struggle to speak/provide any real insight or in some cases even point the camera the right way. by glasgowburner (Wed 20th Sep 2023 3:30pm)
  • Another vote for Barrhead Travel here. Was based in the 'head office' at Oswald Street. All office staff were in the basement, no windows, no air con, all open plan apart from the CEOs office and other directors who had their own ones. The amount of modern apprentices was unreal. No-one training them or mentoring them and most of them got told to bolt at the end of their MA. Before covid the directors had the view of 'brick and mortar' locations are the way forward. Despite everyone else in the company knowing online sales and social media was the way forward. The website was an utter farce and so slow, it was un-usable until the amercian company bought BHT and said it was shit. Then a mad panic to find something else so people could actually book online. When covid hit and they soon realised that people didn't want to go to a store anymore to get ripped off. One of the benefits of working there is supposed to be famtrips (familiarisation trips) funded by suppliers, but these were always given to directors or their friends. The one thing that always annoyed me was they ran a social media competition to give away a trip to Malta for pride in 2019. The collected entries at Glasgow pride and then never announced a winner. Two weeks before the trip a staff member and her partner got given it. Youd think these trips would be a good way to collect blogs/vlogs/photos of places for customers to see. Nah, they treated them as a piss-up and never brought anything back. by glasgowburner (Fri 22nd Sep 2023 9:46am)

  • Saw this campaign on Facebook. As much as i liked the twice i visited here, it wasn't amazing. The service wasn't great and the food was so so. I get that you want to save the place were you worked and like the people you work with but what's going to stop it going the same way as before? If they weren't making enough to pay tax then how will it change now? I get that you want to keep everyone working there as a 'family' but things change, people move on, it might be time to just let it go. Honestly i applaud the enthusiasm but i'm not sure asking strangers to buy you a cafe so you don't have to look for a new job is the best option here. by glasgowburner (Fri 3rd Nov 2023 12:37pm)
  • also, try reporting on FixMyStreet, as its public and goes direct to the council, they seem to prioritise reports on there as it can show how long it takes to get fixed. by glasgowburner (Thu 9th Nov 2023 11:03am)
  • That's really weird, i've reported lights just last week on the route from dalmarnock to city centre via the clydeside and most of them have been fixed within 24 hours. I have found it helps if you provide a photo or lamp number though. saying that there are a few ive reported for years and nothing seems to be done but apparently the lighting guys aren't electricians and they need a 3rd party to attend to fix faults with wires and supplies. Check if your route is part of a neighbourhood watch or 'safer' area and mention it in the comments. There's a gorbals 'safer' route signs on alot of lamposts and when i mention this on the report it get fixed asap. by glasgowburner (Thu 9th Nov 2023 11:02am)
  • The amount of people who don't report them when they stop working. Street outside my work had 3 lights out for the best part of 6 months, reported it and it was fixed the next day. I don't think people realise that these things don't get fixed unless you say something. Bins are automatic uplifts so no reporting needed. Same goes for power outages, electric company usually know about it without reporting it. by glasgowburner (Thu 9th Nov 2023 12:27pm)
  • Good. If you ignore the signs, advertising, road markings and social media regarding this then I'm happy the money is going to carbon reducing efforts. As a pedestrian walking through the LEZ boundary each morning the amount of cars with single occupancy going into the city is staggeringly high, but lower than before the LEZ. yes people need to get to work and public transport is rubbish but park & ride is a thing, cycling, walking from outwith the LEZ etc. Similar story at the football centre at Glasgow green, 90% of cars trying to get a space in that car park are single occupancy who drive to go play football then drive home again. No wonder its chaos in there at nights and weekends. by glasgowburner (Wed 15th Nov 2023 11:44am)
  • Their office is based in the industrial estate behind the new crown street retail park in Gorbals. Entire place looks run down and full of wankers. Car parks full of flash range rovers parked all over the place and the guys driving them are your typical coked up nutters. Buildings been falling apart for years but they don't seem to have any money to fix it. The guys who install the actual windows come and pickup the stuff from the warehouse, there's rubbish everywhere, it's all the cheapest stuff they could find and half of them are "apprentices". There's an old van with deflated tyres parked outside the office they use as a storage area because they reduced the warehouse size to add more sales desks in! Anyone can get a job there they just cold call and sell windows/doors, get the cheapest parts possible, pay the installers minimum wage and they keep the difference from the government grants. Pal who worked there was saying they are told to only sell via the government grant and genuine customers who call up wanting a private/cash only sale get bumped because it's too much hassle with warranty repairs/things not done right. At least with the grant scheme the customer in most cases pays a hugely reduced or free amount so don't complain as much. by glasgowburner (Sat 18th Nov 2023 2:02pm)
  • Adding to what's already been said but these folk have thousands in the bank and only seem to moan on social media. The posted almost daily that they needed somewhere dry to host the soup kitchen that wasn't the bridge under central, so they were given the space down by the river to setup where it's sheltered and dry. Now after a few weeks they realised that they are not in the centre of the city so are wanting somewhere different. It's not about feeding mouths with them it's about visibility. They want a shop unit on a main shopping street. They could rent out a unit for years with the funds they have (most of their food is donated and time is volunteered) but they choose not to. They could be given a heated building somewhere in southside or gallowgate and they wouldn't accept it because it's not in the middle of town. by glasgowburner (Thu 23rd Nov 2023 11:05am)
  • with over 350k in the bank, food is donated and labour is volunteered. How much are the directors taking? They are all about image. They've been offered secure and warm premises in Gorbals but declined it because its not in the city centre. A charity that's picking and choosing what they want? seems sus. My point isn't that every charity should pay rent, they should take anything they get with open arms but this one seems to scream for handouts and reject them if they aren't good enough all while accumulating money in the bank. by glasgowburner (Thu 23rd Nov 2023 4:38pm)
  • Speirs Gumley in Oatlands? Cant stand them. Communal electric charges are a joke. When challenged by owners as to why we are paying other buildings communal electric when we cant use it the response was 'the lighting bollards out the back are shared between the area so to make it fair everyone's electric is paid communally' I've called out many charges on our invoices this year that have been applied to the wrong area including fixes to lights that are street away from us. Most recent WTF from them is changing all the locks on the electric cupboard doors in oatlands because they kept loosing the keys! so now its one key for every cupboard. Still charged us all for it. by glasgowburner (Mon 27th Nov 2023 12:37pm)
  • Its not Oatlands is it? Had the same issue when our block opened. Council weren't told so didn't pick it up, then they came 2 weeks later and refused to pick it up because there was too much. If its a new build contact the builder. They wont want bad scores on the 3/6month surveys so will usually bend backwards to help. In the end our site manager sent guys round to empty the bins sheds at their own cost and called the council to sort it out. by glasgowburner (Wed 29th Nov 2023 2:05pm)
