  • I know this is closed and sorted now, but I just wanted to add my £135 DD for gas & electric (one bedroom tiny flat, out at work etc). I submit readings every week, ended up in credit and they swiped it when they took the DD. I cannot see the £70 credit anywhere on my account, and it isn't added to this months total. WTF?! Also, do not EVER get a pre payment meter....its a monster to feed and it is never enough. by whoops53 (Thu 19th May 2022 4:12pm)
  • What the poster meant, was that nobody gets you into trouble if you don't do the work. If you do the work, you pass, if you laze around, you fail. The college are there to teach you, its up to you to learn. School tend to chase you up if you don't attend, they get you into bother if you don't do homework, they are always on your case. College aren't. If you are adult enough to think college is for you, then you take on the responsibility to do the work. I enjoyed my time at Langside, many years ago. by whoops53 (Fri 20th May 2022 6:37am)
  • Oh Scooter is so good! The Logical Song is ingrained in my heart...I'll be bouncing to that when I'm old and grey! by whoops53 (Fri 20th May 2022 9:50pm)
  • I'm glad you want someone who can come to you, rather than you have to go to them. My dog had the same reactive issues with dogs, but only in his own area. Outside of that, he was just fine. A trainer wanted me to travel to over to him in the East End, (I was living in the South Side at that point) because "he knows the dogs there, and doesn't know the dogs where I am" I explained that it was a territory issue, and outside his own area, my dog was as gentle as a lamb. £80 an hour the trainer wanted....I declined, and trained the dog on my own. He's great now and can walk him with no issues. Hope you find someone to help you and your pooch! by whoops53 (Sat 21st May 2022 7:46am)
  • " hanging his head out the window and inhaling Glasgow" It's not even 8am yet, and I'm chuckling away, thanks! by whoops53 (Sat 21st May 2022 7:52am)
  • I have to disagree with this for the most part. I have been rained on so many times because I believed in them. :( by whoops53 (Sat 21st May 2022 8:06am)
  • Why yes, funnily enough I do. I live near Glasgow, which is why I'm here. My point is that Apple weather says it "will be cloudy with sunshine", or "drizzle in half an hour", so I risk venturing out and then....and then....the deluge of rain happens. I swear someone is stalking me with a bucket of water. :( by whoops53 (Sat 21st May 2022 8:59am)
  • Hmm....maybe Apple just doesn't like me. I look out of the window and it looks ok to go out, then it rains. Lived here all my life, I should know what to expect and to dress accordingly, but y'know...when Apple says imminent sunshine.......like now, I'm checking and its 12 degrees, cloudy/sunshine, "showers expected at 1pm" fine I can deal with that. I'll check back in at 1pm and tell you what the weather is actually doing. :) by whoops53 (Sat 21st May 2022 9:03am)
  • 30 years in Glasgow (incomer) and I say Jay. by whoops53 (Mon 23rd May 2022 11:48am)
  • £60?? For a two bedroom? Don't you live there or something? I'm £139 for a one bedroom, Scottish power. jeez, £60 indeed! by whoops53 (Mon 23rd May 2022 8:49pm)
  • I feel for you....but let me raise you a higher story. I moved from a 3 bedroom, (Feb this year) paying £70 a month for electricity, because I had the idea to downsize because y'know, saving money an' stuff. Now I'm in a 1 bedroom paying *£139!!* Plus I had to pay an extra dollop for the old place because suddenly the crossover dates of moving made me "behind" in my DD. Next time I have a good idea, somebody please stop me! by whoops53 (Mon 23rd May 2022 9:21pm)
  • Thanks, yeah I'm jealous of you, haha! :) Seriously though, I take readings every week and send them in on the app. So far I have managed to stay under the DD amount but that'll be away come October when the weather turns colder. Trying not to worry about it at the moment though. by whoops53 (Mon 23rd May 2022 10:11pm)
  • If you can't pay for the stuff....how will you pay anyone to do this for you?! Asking for a friend. I would do it, but my fees are pretty high....like really *really* high. by whoops53 (Tue 24th May 2022 7:30pm)
  • You want someone to buy "an item/s" for you and deliver the "item/s" to you. Then you will reimburse the person for their out of pocket expenses. So if you want someone to buy something on your behalf, I assume you don't have the money to do it yourself? by whoops53 (Tue 24th May 2022 7:43pm)
  • Obviously. Delivering people is a very delicate business. by whoops53 (Tue 24th May 2022 7:40pm)
  • I was quoted £1,500 for adult braces just to give you an idea of the cost. I declined, lol by whoops53 (Wed 25th May 2022 7:23am)
  • Be prepared for higher prices than you might expect though. Charities are still a business at the end of the day, and they have targets to meet and recoup their losses of closing over lockdown. Plus a lot of them are pushing their own branded items. \~ ex charity shop worker. by whoops53 (Thu 26th May 2022 6:58pm)
  • I love how you prefaced this with Englishman in Peace! I hope you have a lovely time here with your daughter! :) by whoops53 (Fri 27th May 2022 7:31pm)
  • There's a guy called Pete from Greenock who I use all the time (he helped me move, and also rubbish disposal) Can't say about his prices as he quoted at the time I was moving. Reasonable enough for me though (downsizing from a 3 bed to a 1 bed.) Good honest guy and he takes care of your stuff, as well as places it wherever you need it to go - he doesn't just dump everything in the one room like others do. by whoops53 (Fri 27th May 2022 10:01pm)
  • You can get block lessons I think, but it takes longer than 3 weeks to be ready for your test. Nobody would let you onto the roads after such a minimum amount of time driving a car. You need time to build up confidence and learn the controls. This is a huge complicated machine you are in control of, we ain't playing with Lego here. by whoops53 (Sat 28th May 2022 4:02pm)
  • Ha! You know *nothing* (Jon Snow). The "likes of me" hasn't taken a lesson in their life, nor have a car. I am fortunate enough to have access to plentiful public transport, so there has never been a point to driving. by whoops53 (Sat 28th May 2022 8:01pm)
  • "...... *Just because the likes of you took prob 80 lessons does not mean somebody else could be ready in 12.*...." I didn't like to mention that your comment made no sense at all in the context of this thread, but hey, the world needs people like you. by whoops53 (Sat 28th May 2022 9:58pm)
  • The people....from the friendly old ladies at the bustop who chat about anything, to the drunken ned who jumps in front of traffic to slow it down so you can cross safely in high heels! Such characters you would never find anywhere else. by whoops53 (Sun 29th May 2022 9:31am)
  • This is very true, and I apologise. by whoops53 (Sun 29th May 2022 10:12am)
  • I did say thank you to him, while all the cars were tooting in fury though, it was a good laugh! by whoops53 (Sun 29th May 2022 10:46am)
  • Ah c'mon...it's Sunday and the sun is shining, we are playing nice today :) by whoops53 (Sun 29th May 2022 11:04am)
  • Take my vote...us poor folks have to stick together! by whoops53 (Tue 31st May 2022 10:12pm)
  • Similar story, but instead the woman gave me a "lucky" heather. I naively assumed it was free (since she was being so friendly an' all) and began walking away. She came after me demanding £2.50, so I refused and gave her the heather back. She let it drop to the ground and began hexing me, following me around several shops in Argyle St, muttering a strange language and giving me the Stare. (or should that be *scare*), making strange gestures with her hands. 4 years ago now and I'm still getting the heebie jeebies thinking about it. by whoops53 (Wed 1st Jun 2022 4:01pm)
  • My life has never been the same happy go lucky existence since. :( by whoops53 (Wed 1st Jun 2022 4:38pm)
  • Yeah you could have been anybody, but his Da' was round the corner, so the wee man was safe enough.... by whoops53 (Wed 1st Jun 2022 7:49pm)
  • I know, yeah. I had a wee boy come up to me once and say "*awrite* missus, whits yer story?" Must have been about 8 or something, gallus as you like. I just stood there confused for a minute. No parents in sight, and he stood there licking his ice cream, not a care in the world. He shrugged after a minute and told me to "fuck aff 'en". Kids today are so very strange. by whoops53 (Wed 1st Jun 2022 8:33pm)
  • >when I stop and say my dog is aggressive tell me their dog is fine. What the hell is wrong with people who say this? I don't *care* if your dog is fine....MY dog will eat it, *then* what are you gonna do? Saying their dog is fine is not an excuse for letting it come up to my dog. Also I'm the one who gets into bother because my dog is "aggressive" by whoops53 (Thu 2nd Jun 2022 8:58pm)
  • Heh! I'll give you the dog-walker nod when I see you then. :) by whoops53 (Thu 2nd Jun 2022 9:23pm)
  • I can manage my dog perfectly well. He just doesn't like other dogs getting busy in his face without a proper introduction. I'm not exactly walking around with a roaring beast on a poundshop lead. by whoops53 (Thu 2nd Jun 2022 9:21pm)
  • I have trained him with treats and sitting when any other dogs approach for the last 12 years. No nerves on this side, I can assure you. He's a good lad. The thing is that the other dogs who are off lead, just come up and sniff and want to play (which dogs do) but mine doesn't like it and responds assertively. by whoops53 (Fri 3rd Jun 2022 6:57am)
  • How do you find it? I was a student there and found people of different cultures quite forward in their communication. I always made sure to study in groups when I was in the library. by whoops53 (Mon 6th Jun 2022 2:07pm)

  • Naw, big man/wee man, Ye tak' care noo, *bear hug and slap on the back, fist bump* by whoops53 (Mon 6th Jun 2022 5:34pm)
  • Is Gett an app? I can't find it on my phone. Need to book a taxi to take the dog to the vets tomorrow and no drivers will take dogs apparently. by whoops53 (Wed 8th Jun 2022 10:19am)
  • I would say live for the moment. Take the flat, make it your forever home, and then decide if you want to add a dog. If there is one thing I have learned from the last two or three years, is that everything changes. Plus, have they ruled out *all* pets, or just dogs in particular. My daughter rents a private let flat with strict no pets policy. She has a cat, and gets someone to look after it and all its stuff, for a couple of days when there is a flat inspection. Deal with now, and the future will look after itself. :) by whoops53 (Wed 8th Jun 2022 6:22pm)
  • Glasgow humour, love it! :) by whoops53 (Thu 9th Jun 2022 9:40pm)
  • Having just moved house, I feel your pain. I wish there was some sort of warehouse that sold offcuts to people for really cheap. Anyway, I can only suggest you offer it up on Gumtree for free? Someone would snap it up for sure. by whoops53 (Fri 10th Jun 2022 1:44pm)
  • They could put up signs asking people to pick up after their dog though. Or fence off the area to "protect" it. No need for the poison, that's just sadistic nonsense. by whoops53 (Thu 16th Jun 2022 11:08am)
  • So what exactly are they trying to poison? I wasn't aware that rats, deer, foxes, badgers etc played golf? Take a photo and tell the police. I would (if it were me anyway) try and remove the poison wearing gloves and take it to the police as well. You can't dispose of it anywhere anyway, so let the police deal with it. by whoops53 (Thu 16th Jun 2022 11:06am)
  • omg, are *honey* mangoes a thing? I adore mangoes, why did I not know this?? Guess I'm missing out this year then... *makes note in calendar* by whoops53 (Fri 17th Jun 2022 12:08pm)
  • Ahh thank you! I don't drive so a boxful isn't for me, but I can take a backpack, heh! by whoops53 (Fri 17th Jun 2022 1:13pm)
  • Umm....don't be thinking the new ones will make it to the shelves. Just sayin'....charity retail isn't all it's cracked up to be. The new ones will end up in their ebay shop. by whoops53 (Fri 17th Jun 2022 10:20pm)
  • This made me laugh! As if fancy shiny ribbons would sway me. Which of course, they absolutely do! :) by whoops53 (Sat 18th Jun 2022 8:39am)
  • >Is he not in charge of this??? He should know where he is going, yes. Especially if he is passing a huge place like Pollok Park. It's not like she is asking him a street name for goodness sake. And if he is covering someone's shift, he should still know where he is going because he is driving the feckin' bus! by whoops53 (Sun 19th Jun 2022 4:53pm)
  • It isn't cheap nowadays....price rises and everything. No BOGOF's these days. by whoops53 (Sun 19th Jun 2022 4:55pm)
  • I took Boris's advice when he said to eat venison and grow your own cucumbers.....I'm doing a roaring trade down this way! :) by whoops53 (Sun 19th Jun 2022 5:18pm)
  • Ahh yes, Bin Wars...I'm under that council area too, and they don't care. When I lived in tenaments, I did end up drilling holes in the lid and the front and putting a bike chain lock on it. Its a hassle, especially as there are several types of bins, but you need to fight fire with fire. by whoops53 (Sun 19th Jun 2022 11:52pm)
  • Nobody likes pigeons really. Its a shame for the guy though since he cleared up the wasteland. But yeah, pigeons tend to do the toilet everywhere, and can spread disease. Buildings have tiny spiky fences on all the windowsills to stop the pigeons roosting there or making nests. Also the fact he didn't ask permission...you know how these officious idiots get when someone does something good for the community but didn't say "please sir may I".... first. by whoops53 (Mon 20th Jun 2022 8:51am)
  • Oops, you mentioned PP, I only just noticed, sorry, heh! by whoops53 (Mon 20th Jun 2022 11:21am)
  • Pollok Park is lovely - I was there recently and the gardens are looking good. Plenty of woods, highland cows (with calves), and the Burrell to have a look round. :) by whoops53 (Mon 20th Jun 2022 11:20am)
  • On it...because I should be working but this looks much more fun! by whoops53 (Mon 20th Jun 2022 1:30pm)
  • Where in Paisley costs that much?! I know there are good areas ("good" areas) but still....daylight robbery if you ask me. by whoops53 (Mon 20th Jun 2022 3:01pm)

  • Work from home as often as you can. Everything will be busier, and don't forget the bugs and viruses that are floating about. You need to look after yourself if you are to be productive. by whoops53 (Mon 20th Jun 2022 8:31pm)
  • Unless it's for chips. Always make the effort for a chippy. by whoops53 (Mon 20th Jun 2022 9:40pm)
  • Educate yourself on the law regarding exercising dogs in a public place. Also never trust your dog 100% when off the lead. In fact, never trust your dog 100% in any situation. You cannot control outside stimuli to which your dog may or may not react to. by whoops53 (Tue 21st Jun 2022 2:08pm)
  • And what about the split second it decides *not* to behave itself? Or wanders into the path of a cyclist and causes an accident? Or jumps up in fright at a running child going by? by whoops53 (Tue 21st Jun 2022 3:53pm)
  • I don't even know you but I feel so proud of you. I wish you all the best in your future. I have been homeless and it's no joke. Good luck to you. Make a list of all the suggestions here and work through them one at a time. I have no questions for you, but I hope you get to tell your story to people who need to hear it. You will be their inspiration. :) x by whoops53 (Tue 21st Jun 2022 4:00pm)
  • Oh sorry I should have been more clear - I meant the list of the suggestions that other comments have said. by whoops53 (Tue 21st Jun 2022 5:03pm)
  • That person blames everybody else and thinks his dog is perfectly fine off the lead. I'm just reminding him that it isn't always the case. by whoops53 (Tue 21st Jun 2022 6:26pm)
  • Nope. Just Thursday and Saturday are the next ones. Wednesday and Friday are fine. by whoops53 (Tue 21st Jun 2022 8:59pm)
  • Love this! :) Good times, those last few days, eh? by whoops53 (Wed 22nd Jun 2022 3:36pm)
  • Not at all....as much as everyone loathes solicitors and thinks they are money grabbers, they won't drop you for putting in too many offers. They want to be seen as successful too, so they will help you however they can. I used to work in a conveyancing solicitors, and they do want the best for you. by whoops53 (Thu 23rd Jun 2022 5:52pm)
  • I haven't really stopped wearing my mask on public transport or in shops. I don't wear it indoors if I know people and trust in their health & hygiene practices. Numbers are increasing here in Scotland, so I would wear a mask in most public places if I were you. Enjoy your stay in Glasgow, and also your hike! :) by whoops53 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 10:25am)
  • The police won't do anything, because they like the junkies to stay in one place so they know where they are if anything kicks off. Making them scatter like rats involves more paperwork if a crime gets committed. And that's the point...no crime has been committed (yet). The council is your best bet...start with them. :) Or get a water bucket/hose and soak them away (kidding, don't do that....) by whoops53 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 12:16pm)
  • Someone is suggesting you do something that you don't want to do because you care about your health. Don't let friend come through. End of story. If they are so unconcerned about *your* health that they are willing to risk it for a concert (not to mention potentially spreading covid to other people,) they aren't a good friend. by whoops53 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 2:05pm)
  • I actually like First Bus....McGills just took over everybody and ran them off the road though. If you want to hate on anyone, hate on McGills....they don't keep to the timetable, and take buses off the route randomly because "there are no drivers". What? On a weekend? Friday night and buses stop at 5pm? Oh wait, footballs on. by whoops53 (Fri 24th Jun 2022 4:10pm)
  • Everyone is nice, but stay away from the Haggi. They look cute, but don't be feeding them, or they will never leave you alone. by whoops53 (Sat 25th Jun 2022 1:18pm)
  • Yeah don't be putting it in the wrong bin. It won't get emptied due to being "contaminated". What you could do is contact the council for an extra bin - you need to explain specifically why you want one though. Just asking for another bin won't cut it. It won't be free, mind you...I think last time I got an extra one pre-covid it was £15. by whoops53 (Sat 25th Jun 2022 1:54pm)
  • "You are the one getting the bus...if you don't know where you are going, that's not their problem. All they do is drive the feckin' thing! " I actually got told that by a female bus driver. And she actually said "fuckin'", she clearly wasn't as polite as I am! by whoops53 (Sat 25th Jun 2022 2:39pm)
  • Johnsons do a magnolia paint for a tenner a tin. by whoops53 (Sat 25th Jun 2022 5:02pm)
  • I voted this up...more people need to see this. Bus drivers are real people with real lives, and yeah, they get a bad rap. But this is a nice story and I'm glad it happened :) by whoops53 (Sat 25th Jun 2022 10:47pm)
  • *\*brings popcorn\** This'll be fun to watch.... by whoops53 (Mon 27th Jun 2022 5:17pm)
  • Omg, I am so sorry you and your wife had to go through that! So what happened when they left? Did they apologise to you? Are you making a complaint? You need to pursue this, honestly....make them pay for scaring the hell out of you both. by whoops53 (Tue 28th Jun 2022 11:47am)
  • Oh bullshit they checked with the housing association! They lied...I suggest you contact the HA (your housing officer for your address if possible) and ask if the police have been in touch regarding your address. Do it in an email so you have it in writing as to whether they did or not, and when the check was made. You never know...they (police) could cover their tracks and do it after the fact. You need to gather as much info as possible about this and take it to a lawyer to see what can be done. It's all about power and control with the police, its disgusting behaviour. by whoops53 (Tue 28th Jun 2022 12:06pm)
  • Love this! I didn't even know it existed, thank you! by whoops53 (Tue 28th Jun 2022 4:33pm)

  • I'm interested....where you based? by whoops53 (Wed 29th Jun 2022 3:39pm)
  • I'm still missing Borders, tbh. It was my second home. But yeah...I never buy anything from Lush anyway. Far too pushy sales, and expensive. But at least Glasgow will smell lovely! by whoops53 (Thu 30th Jun 2022 10:57am)
  • Oh I have found them to be like "what are you looking for?" "Would you like to try this" "Are you looking for a gift or for yourself?" Then when you start picking things up to smell them, they launch into a narrative about the product. Drives me up the wall (and out of the shop) by whoops53 (Thu 30th Jun 2022 12:18pm)
  • It's glasgow..it could be anything. I was in Glasgow last year (in between lockdowns) and some random guy passed and kicked a phone out of another guy's hand as he was sitting scrolling, minding his own business. Kicker guy (deviant junkie ned) proceeded to batter the phone guy (normal student type) to the ground - no police in sight. Ambulance turned up after me and others phoned, but such a horrible random thing to happen. by whoops53 (Thu 30th Jun 2022 3:29pm)
  • Sorry, I honestly can't remember now. Borders bookshop will be in my heart forever. :) Maybe someone else will be able to tell you? by whoops53 (Thu 30th Jun 2022 5:06pm)
  • You'll be a lot more secure with a housing association, honestly. They will likely give you a new contract lease, as per their new ownership of your house, but they will take care of repairs and leave you alone for the most part (as others have said). I've been with a HA for over 20 years now and wouldn't move (unless I won the lottery) by whoops53 (Fri 1st Jul 2022 11:33am)
  • What is this "loose change" you speak of? I haven't touched a coin since 2020. by whoops53 (Fri 1st Jul 2022 4:46pm)
  • Yeah they always come at dinner time. I just open the door, glare at them while they do their spiel, then close the door without saying a word. They are getting desperate now, trying to recoup their money lost during lockdown. I had a sign "Do not knock unless I am expecting you, or you are Camelot" by whoops53 (Fri 1st Jul 2022 4:56pm)

  • I was told by a driver that pre-booking is useless because they (drivers) only get the job 10 mins before the scheduled time anyway. They have no idea you booked early, for all they know, you just called for a taxi 10-15 minutes ago. by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 10:29am)
  • Good to know, thanks for update. I love how everyone cares on here! 💕 by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 11:25am)

  • Did you miss the bit about noise, violence & property damage. That's not someone you can have a civil conversation with, especially in Glasgow. by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 2:01pm)
  • Have you considered joining up with your other (nice) neighbours and putting in a joint signed complaint. I know with disputes like this, if it's just one on one, it's regarded as a "personality conflict" as opposed to something worthy of investigating. If the authorities had more complaints from other individuals rather than just you, you might have more success in getting something done? by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 2:08pm)
  • No, no, angry fucks are everywhere, but I did clarify to say "especially in Glasgow" because I have seen for myself what neighbours do to each other in these disputes. Tis the way of the world. by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 2:32pm)
  • Yes. Well....I didn't see any chainsaws or machetes, so I guess that's civil enough. by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 3:30pm)
  • Yer better keepin' yer tap on in this feckin' weather! :) by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 3:37pm)

  • I'd never heard of him either until he had died and it was all over the media. Like you, I also thought he seemed like a really genuine authentic guy (strange thing to say about an Internet Person). Bizarrely...I went through cancer and I was the happiest I had ever been. Nothing focuses your mind more on the important stuff, than the fact you may actually die. I wasn't drinking, but I was definitely "bugger the bills, lets have fun" Now I'm healthy but in a shit ton of debt! :) by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 6:03pm)
  • Ack, you need to practice more then. It wasn’t obvious 😂 by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Jul 2022 7:48pm)
  • Who on earth have you been talking to, that made you so scared of moving here?! Clearly people who don't know Glasgow at *all*. I bet they read No Mean City and based their "knowledge" off that, jeez.... Good luck in your new job! by whoops53 (Sun 3rd Jul 2022 6:20am)
  • Your bank is empty at the *end* of the month! Lucky bugger, I get paid, pay bills and food then find myself broke. I feel rich for about two days! :) by whoops53 (Sun 3rd Jul 2022 1:09pm)
  • It's got so bad in some areas that volunteers get together and pick it up. The council provides them with litter pickers and green bags, and once the volunteer litter pickers have done their streets they have to take a photo of the street sign and send it in. A wee van then comes round and collects the bagged up rubbish. Irony eh? by whoops53 (Sun 3rd Jul 2022 1:50pm)
  • The leaves on my trees. It's Autumn and windy, given they are blowing around and turning yellow. *sigh* by whoops53 (Wed 6th Jul 2022 1:07pm)
  • You could go through to Edinburgh? It's a lovely city to wander around, go for a coffee, visit a bookshop - and the Meadows is a lovely place to sit and have lunch. It's my go-to place for escaping and just being *anonymous* among folk. :) by whoops53 (Thu 7th Jul 2022 10:09pm)
  • Oh i just suggested paisley, nice one! I lived there when i was at Cali Uni by whoops53 (Mon 11th Jul 2022 7:24pm)
  • I lived in paisley when i went to glasgow Caledonian. Train there, walk up to uni in 15 mins, or take the free bus from train station to bus station at the cali. Look into it for later on....i know you probablywant to get settled sooner. by whoops53 (Mon 11th Jul 2022 7:22pm)
  • They were passing me fast, in cars with blues on, in silence, with what *looked* like machine guns, alright? by whoops53 (Fri 22nd Jul 2022 1:30pm)
  • Interesting, thanks 👍 by whoops53 (Fri 22nd Jul 2022 2:46pm)
  • I wasn't twitching curtains, mate, I was trying to cross the feckin' road at the time! by whoops53 (Fri 22nd Jul 2022 10:09pm)
  • Is that "right"? Thanks for letting me "know" I know the story behind it now so its all "fine" Thanks for your "input" by whoops53 (Fri 22nd Jul 2022 10:07pm)
  • You aren't *from* glasgow are you.... by whoops53 (Fri 22nd Jul 2022 10:12pm)
  • Yep...I know what happened now. by whoops53 (Fri 22nd Jul 2022 10:10pm)
  • DELETED Well....word on the street is.... *glances from side to side nervously* Love St, knives, stabbing, an escaped pedo, (young & barefoot), street lockdown, capture.... by whoops53 (Fri 22nd Jul 2022 10:19pm)
  • Fair point, but in this case the police were on a main road heading towards a location not at a locaion. But ill bear it in mind. by whoops53 (Sat 23rd Jul 2022 7:30am)
  • I took your advice on board and deleted two posts that had identifying location details. Its not something i would like to find out about, so fair play 👍 by whoops53 (Sat 23rd Jul 2022 10:36am)
  • Thanks - laundry drying was a big issue for me too since it's a really small flat. Is the dehumidifier costly to run though? by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 9:28am)
  • Another win for a dehumidifier! Also thanks for saying it's cheap to run...I was wondering about that. Can I ask how long you have it on for, in a day? I'm thinking it would need to be a few hours give or take, yes? by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 9:31am)
  • Great, thank you, I really appreciate that! by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 9:38am)
  • Right, I'm on it...thanks! :) by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 9:40am)
  • Wow...so this place of mine could already be kind of "drookit"? I was wondering about that, because laundry takes so long to dry compared to my other place (which was a tenement) by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 10:14am)
  • That's a really good idea! I'm going to ask them....all they can say is no, isn't it! Cheers! by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 10:22am)
  • Well thanks again for your help - I didn't even know these things existed. I'm sitting here wondering how to tell the dampness! :) by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 10:21am)
  • Just say that I have bought the humidity meters just to see what I'm dealing with, before I splurge out on a dehumidifier. Coming tomorrow, can't wait to check this out! (how sad am I? haha!) by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 12:11pm)
  • Im hoping it wont run up too big a bill, to be honest....im saving really hard on energy just now and built uo a bit of credit which i hope will mitigate any heating costs. But then, obviously if what you say is correct, it should all balance out in the end....hopefully! by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 2:09pm)
  • I am in a one bedroom so i think one should do me, from what i have read in the reviews! Fingers crossed by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 2:11pm)
  • Ok, yep, willing to try this as well.... I need to stash them somewhere when folk come over though. Might look a bit odd! by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 5:22pm)
  • Oh hey, now that's a good idea! Thanks, I'm going to try that! by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 5:29pm)
  • Oh this looks good! So you say this covers a 2 bed flat then? I'm one bed, so it should do. Is it cheap to run if you have it on for a few hours a day? I don't care about noise or anything. by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 6:19pm)
  • This is great to hear! Not sure what a heated aider might be, but definitely going for a dehumidifier 👍 by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 10:01pm)
  • Omg, so glad you said that! I was googling it and some weird visuals started happening there ðŸĪŠ by whoops53 (Tue 26th Jul 2022 10:13pm)
  • Thanks for all this info! Writing it down as we speak. Windows are double glazed thankfully and seem ok for sealing. The front door however is a bugger though because I can see daylight down at the lower half of it when the door is closed. It is misaligned and has been adjusted many times by the HA due to locking issues, so I'm not asking them again! No extractor fan, but there are vents in the walls (its an old flat), and nothing is covering them. I'll need to rejig the furniture though I suppose. by whoops53 (Wed 27th Jul 2022 12:33pm)
  • Right you, I want a word....I got those very same curtains down at Ikea when I moved here. They are a *feature* in my rooms....a veritable window *dressing...!* Seriously though I do get your point about putting up a double curtain, and I'll get onto that. My windows are double glazed so that'll help tons, but I still need thick curtains. I had a neighbour once who hung up fleece throws at her window...she was 3 up mind you, so nobody saw, but god it looked so crap! by whoops53 (Wed 27th Jul 2022 12:37pm)
  • Yes, I didn't really want to have to use the heating with the windows open....I get really anxious about the costs going up all the time - but I do see the sense in it, all the same. With regards to the door...yes its uPVC and I'll be using draught excluder tape. The door had locking issues because of misalignment, so it has already been adjusted to the max. The thing is thought that it looks like it's taken a warp at the bottom. I thought too, that I was being really clever when I moved in, and got a super thick carpet for the hall (its a bottom floor flat), but that added to the stupid door not closing properly, just made it worse! Have you ever tried to shave a carpet? I should do a Youtube video for that! Thanks for your comments, they are appreciated! by whoops53 (Wed 27th Jul 2022 2:06pm)
  • There are no public laundry facilities near me - they are all affiliated with flats in a block, and I don't know anyone who would let me use them! Laundry is going to be a problem I think. Definately getting the humidifier. by whoops53 (Thu 28th Jul 2022 10:22am)
  • Yep, me! I managed it once in the 5 years I did it and was super chuffed! I haven't done it in the last two because of.....*other things going on*, but I'd like to do it again this year. The earlier the better as far as I'm concerned. by whoops53 (Fri 5th Aug 2022 7:11pm)

  • DELETED Terrifying, poor lassie. I hope she is ok now. I'd have helped him back down the stairs if he tried to come up them a second time, effin weirdo. How come special needs/learning difficulties only manifests itself as bad weird stuff? You don't see people in tutu's, hugging and singing all happy do you, no...just creepozoids snuffling around your stairs with plastic candles. jesus by whoops53 (Sat 13th Aug 2022 10:12am)

  • I don't know anything about Hells Angels other than from movies. I didn't even know about Blue Angels, ha! I just know they made a helluva racket when they passed me...about 15 - 20 of them on bikes. Wish I was quick enough to grab a photo on my phone. Not the kind of thing you usually see, I just thought I'd ask :) by whoops53 (Sat 27th Aug 2022 6:33pm)
  • "Kinky Bootees" Kinky for short. Overly large older lady, pointy glasses, hair in a bun/beehive thing. Close to retirement but clearly had a thing for younger guys. Every time you asked her for anything from a stapler to a spreadsheet, she would turn slowly and stare at you for a moment too long over her glasses. Not quite licking her lips but yeah, she thought things no young man should ever be privy to. "Let me just check my kinky boot*eeees"* she would say, while looking you up and down. Clearly a look she practised every morning in front of the mirror. Made things very awkward....I was glad when I left. by whoops53 (Fri 16th Sep 2022 5:23pm)
  • No eating on Monday. You may not eat....nobody else is eating....you think the queen is eating? no...you may not eat. (joke) Roasters in Paisley is open. Top of High street, left hand side. Making a point of staying open on Monday - fabulous place, great food, cheery friendly staff. Went recently for lunch, 5 stars. by whoops53 (Sat 17th Sep 2022 9:59pm)

  • God, I remember your previous posts! I am horrified at the updates and am so sorry you have had to put up with this. I feel happy for you that you seem to have found a better place, with decent neighbours who will look after you. Just because you had to deal with shit as a child, doesn't make you "strong enough" to deal with it as an adult. I hope everything goes well for you next week...will you update us? by whoops53 (Sun 18th Sep 2022 8:54pm)
  • Listen, you gave it 5 years....that's more than enough time to see if things will change. Clearly they haven't, so you are doing the right thing and making yourself a priority. That's not giving up at all. Home is where the heart is - sounds cheesy I know, but you can't beat closing the door at night knowing you can relax without wee neds giving you grief. :) by whoops53 (Sun 18th Sep 2022 9:42pm)

  • What - the nano stuff? Oh you don't write an actual novel ready to hit the shelves. Its just a word count, keeping yourself on track really. No pressure. But anything to do with writing and I'm up for it. by whoops53 (Tue 20th Sep 2022 3:44pm)

  • Me too! I just checked and they are still going strong. New music out and a new tune for the Womens football a few months back. I used to sit for ages in Buchanan Street listening to them. Think I have a CD somewhere...too bad I've nothing to play it on though. They put their stuff up on Bandcamp now. by whoops53 (Wed 21st Sep 2022 10:18pm)
  • Aye, but you pay to listen to it on bandcamp....its a £1 a track or something. Not a fan of ceilidhs either, personally but I would dance to these, yep. In the street, too.... Maybe not though....it'd end up on Youtube the way I dance, ha! by whoops53 (Thu 22nd Sep 2022 8:28am)
  • No, get a proper written formal notice, signed by both of you. Just because your landlord has "been really nice" in the past, they are being hit with the cost of living just as you are. Even them suggesting that an email is sufficient, shows they are being underhanded and they know it. Trust no-one.... by whoops53 (Tue 27th Sep 2022 2:38pm)
  • Aye ok, and what? Temporary rent freeze or not, this question will still be here when the rent freeze isn't. Lets hope you don't have to come looking for an answer when that happens. by whoops53 (Tue 27th Sep 2022 4:35pm)

  • Away tae yer bed ya numpty, you've school tomorrow. by whoops53 (Thu 13th Oct 2022 6:27pm)

  • I know McGills are struggling for drivers. Many just turn off their trackers so they don't appear on the app. Then they head back into town, skipping the less busy bits of the route. Its very annoying...especially in the evening when trying to get home from work in the rain :( by whoops53 (Thu 13th Oct 2022 6:51pm)
  • Ah'm as real as the skelp you'll be gettin' if ye daen't dae as yer telt! by whoops53 (Thu 13th Oct 2022 8:12pm)
  • Here, have a wee hug *\*hugs\** Yeah, Brexit and Covid really turned this country inside out, shook it around a bit and hung it to dry by the boobies. Yuo are not being a whiney bitch at all....lots of people (myself included) are in situations we wouldn't be in, if it weren't for all the shit going on. Get your name on a few housing associations, keep posting on here, make contacts at work or Uni if that's where you are at. Post adverts in local shops, check gumtree etc. Just try and stay focused. Its going to be ok at some point...can't say when but it'll be ok soon. \*shrugs\* by whoops53 (Fri 14th Oct 2022 5:09pm)
  • Millport, wow yeah...it's nice enough but for visiting only, not for living on. I used to live on the Isle of Bute and that did my head in. Island life just gives you an extra step in the day that most folk don't experience. I couldn't wait to get back to the mainland, and stayed with friends for a while before getting my own place. Yeah, get some games going....cognac? Get you for being a bit posh! :) Good for you....but wake up smiling, not with a sore head. Don't want that to start off your weekend :) x by whoops53 (Fri 14th Oct 2022 7:48pm)
  • Are you paying for this accommodation? How can anyone go without decent sanitation for 96 hours, its a joke. You and everyone else should kick up a stink about this big time. Don't let them fob you off with "oh just go and get water from the store" That is absolute bullshit. Whoever your landlord is, get in touch with them, harrass the plumber, do whatever you need to do to get this sorted NOW. Don't let them get away with it, you pay for this...you deserve sanitation and fresh water....jeez. Just because you are students, it doesn't mean you deserve less service than anyone else.....get together and raise holy hell about it. by whoops53 (Sat 15th Oct 2022 5:27pm)
  • Yes. I am not the same person now, as I was in 2019. I can't believe how much I have lost the person I used to be. I have a whole different mindset and view of the world, and the current political situation isn't helping. by whoops53 (Sat 15th Oct 2022 8:25pm)
  • No idea....I call Straven "Strath-*haven*", and Milngavie "Millen-gavvie", so...yeah, I would pronounce that place as Chalter Holt. Which is wrong. :( by whoops53 (Sat 15th Oct 2022 8:30pm)
  • Thank you, yes I do keep getting corrected and it's fine in speech, but it's easy to forget when I see the word written down. :) by whoops53 (Sat 15th Oct 2022 8:55pm)

  • This thread is great, and there are some fabulous suggestions. Generally I just go for a walk and listen to music. I take my camera with me and snap some things along the way. It gets me out of my head. Then I come home, listen to music and have some coffee. I hope you find some good stuff on here, OP and it cheers you up a bit. :) by whoops53 (Sat 15th Oct 2022 9:18pm)

  • I hope you get it sorted! by whoops53 (Sat 15th Oct 2022 9:49pm)
  • Try and get her on your side by suggesting you, her (and any oter tenants) get together to write a letter to the council (or landlord) and asking them to fix the door. You are quite right when you say it invalidates your insurance, so you need to get this sorted as soon as possible. If you seem to want to fix the problem along with her, it makes for better neighbourly relations down the line I lived in a close of 8 flats and we had this problem too. It wasn't fun, but we got together and worked it out. Good luck! :) by whoops53 (Sun 16th Oct 2022 11:01am)
  • Do you know any beefy guys? You could go to the local gym and say you need help with an "abusive" neighbour. Fairly sure someone could help out. by whoops53 (Sun 16th Oct 2022 8:40pm)
  • Blood boil why? I just laughed at the fact there was "SO much walking" bless 'em. by whoops53 (Tue 18th Oct 2022 8:17am)
  • I love how "Karen" has become a verb now. "Doing a Karen" or "Being a Karen". Makes me laugh. But seriously, do keep yourself safe in this situation....don't do anything too obvious. Take video, install a camera, put spikes on the doorstep, dog dirt, play annoying music (Like Stings "I'll be watching you" over and over). I would ask the police to do a drive by check on your close now and then. But just keep yourself safe. by whoops53 (Tue 18th Oct 2022 12:15pm)
  • I have suffered this problem myself when i lived in a close. I only suggested things i tried myself. What did you suggest .....apart from come here to have a go, eh? by whoops53 (Tue 18th Oct 2022 4:57pm)
  • It wasn't literally spikes, like they put up to stop homeless folk sleeping in places they shouldn't. That would be illegal. Plus Health & Safety. It was the Winter of the Heavy Snow, remember? Back a few years? Me and some friends had been hiking/walking and using those ice gripper things on our boots. Taking our boots off and turning them upside down (because it seemed sensible at the time, I don't know...) at the close door before scuttling up the stairs in our thick wolly socks. More snow happened and when we retrieved our boots, all you could see was the spikes. It seemed amusing at the time and we discussed the potential for stopping folk hanging around. by whoops53 (Tue 18th Oct 2022 7:47pm)
  • Just my opinion, and I would work there for a couple weeks first to check out how many people do have tattoos, but if you keep it covered while on telly or dealing with the public, it shouldn't be a problem. Bear in mind though, it's the Government, so you may well be whisked away to have it scrubbed off and your mouth washed out with soap. (joking) by whoops53 (Wed 19th Oct 2022 11:44am)
  • Do you mean they gave you the discount money directly? I'm asking just in case i can expect a refund of the discount later, before i get all annoyed with them! by whoops53 (Thu 20th Oct 2022 7:13am)
  • I pay monthly DD as well so thought they would reduce it automatically. I'll wait until later then to see if they pop in back into my account, cheers! by whoops53 (Thu 20th Oct 2022 7:19am)
  • Yes i'll be phoning them later today....if thats even possible these days, heh! by whoops53 (Thu 20th Oct 2022 7:17am)
  • I only got an email from them months ago, to say it would be happening. No explanation of how it would actually work though....which is why i feel a bit confused about it all. by whoops53 (Thu 20th Oct 2022 7:15am)
  • Ok, thanks for this! Yeah i have a lot of credit built up so i hope winter wont be too sore financially. Im not looking to reduce my DD at all, just get the discount like everyone else 😒 by whoops53 (Thu 20th Oct 2022 7:24am)
  • God i know, pretty useless all round! Glad you got yours sorted though! by whoops53 (Thu 20th Oct 2022 7:20am)
  • Thanks, I send in my readings every week or so and keep a note of them. Ill check more over this next month and see if theres a difference, cheers! by whoops53 (Thu 20th Oct 2022 7:34am)
  • Glad yours went through ok. Im on a fixed tariff so cant think about changing company until next year really by whoops53 (Thu 20th Oct 2022 7:35am)
  • Keep testing yourself...it takes a couple of days to spread around and kick in....good luck. I would find out from the Uni what their policy is. by whoops53 (Sun 23rd Oct 2022 9:04pm)
  • Err....Covid is still here so yes, keep testing. Infections are rising too. by whoops53 (Mon 24th Oct 2022 5:37am)
  • Any chemist will sell them, or tell you where to get a pack from. They do cost now - a few pounds I think, not totally sure because I'm still using the packs I collected when they were free. I don't test routinely - once a week though (or more often if you start feeling like a cold is coming on). by whoops53 (Mon 24th Oct 2022 8:26am)
  • yeah, on average....I'm not "right its Monday morning at 8:15am, time for testing!" More like..."I've been on public transport, or in busy shops this week, I'd better do a test" by whoops53 (Mon 24th Oct 2022 9:40am)
  • What?! £2 for a test, gods sake, I'd better be more canny with mine then. by whoops53 (Mon 24th Oct 2022 9:58am)
  • Where are you? Can you get your carers to at least get some wee poles and tie some rope along it until you get this fixed? This is disgusting. Get a box (just a plastic box with a lid) and fill it with dog poop bags (£1) so when anyone says they have no bags, tell them they can get one from there? by whoops53 (Mon 24th Oct 2022 7:27pm)
  • Yeah, I think politeness goes over the head of some people. You might want to amend that to something more assertive. Mentioning they are being recorded (even if they aren't) is usually a good deterrent, and having the notice omit the words please and thank you might work too. Its horrible having to go down to their level if you are normally quite a polite person, but this is a serious health hazard for you. I wonder if your doctor could help you at all? by whoops53 (Mon 24th Oct 2022 7:43pm)
  • Thanks, yeah...just something to prevent dogs wandering into the garden if they are off the lead. Dogs don't like a barrier so it doesn't need to be fancy for now. I just can't understand why the council can't help...OP is disabled for goodness sake! I'm sure they would do something if they could. It must be so frustrating. by whoops53 (Mon 24th Oct 2022 7:47pm)
  • I would try and point out to your GP that a) its a health hazard both to you and the people who care for you because they tramp it in and around your house, and b) its affecting your mental health and causing you untold stress. I expect your GP will then contact the council on your behalf, or SAMH (a mental health organisation) on your behalf. by whoops53 (Mon 24th Oct 2022 8:28pm)
  • I respectfully disagree with you. GP's never think anyone's health, whether it's physical OR mental, is "a problem" or " a bother". It's worth a shot, because everything else is being tried already. by whoops53 (Mon 24th Oct 2022 9:09pm)
  • Oooh a GP on reddit - thats interesting. I can never get hold of mine... Wonder if you can help me....i have this eye problem. They keep rolling up 🙄 by whoops53 (Mon 24th Oct 2022 11:30pm)

  • Tramping through dog muck, getting it on your flooring or on your hands when putting on footwear etc is very much a health issue. Even more so when you have limited mobility. by whoops53 (Tue 25th Oct 2022 4:32pm)
  • Your point is moot. The OP has an active problem which needs addressing quickly as it stands at the moment. The issue of "might be in an accident" doesn't apply here, because its a "just in case" scenario. by whoops53 (Tue 25th Oct 2022 6:37pm)
  • Given that OP is already suffering mobility issues and has to use a wheelchair to get around, and could - unbeknown to you and I - already have underlying health issues. I would suggest that dog dirt poses a very serious health hazard (to anyone, not just someone already suffering ill health) and must be dealt with in a supportive manner via the help from a "health professional" by whoops53 (Tue 25th Oct 2022 8:24pm)
  • Agree with the damp problem. Also agree with getting a dehumidifier. They really do make a difference in drying up the air and getting rid of smells by whoops53 (Tue 25th Oct 2022 8:28pm)
  • I don't have an issue with dog dirt in my garden. by whoops53 (Tue 25th Oct 2022 9:11pm)
  • Nope, It's you who seems to be losing track of the conversation. I'm talking about the hazards of dog dirt in the garden, and you suggested "I take that to my GP next time" Do keep up. by whoops53 (Tue 25th Oct 2022 10:01pm)
  • No? Why on earth would I be ragin? by whoops53 (Tue 25th Oct 2022 10:07pm)

  • I live in a bottom cottage flat with a couple above me who work shifts. All I hear is them running water in the kitchen occasionally and talking on the phone if they are near a window. No TV, footsteps, *other* noises \*ahem\*. And I live in a really quiet street with hardly any traffic. by whoops53 (Thu 27th Oct 2022 6:13pm)

  • Can;t help with any reccies, but I just wondered if you had checked your wee ones skin at all? I'm asking cos my terriers skin got really sensitive over time (and age) and it turns out she had associated health issues. Not saying yours has, of course, but it might be worth a thought? by whoops53 (Thu 27th Oct 2022 8:14pm)
  • Aww, wee soul. That sounds pretty stressful for both of you. I really hope you manage to get an understanding and gentle groomer :) by whoops53 (Thu 27th Oct 2022 11:14pm)
  • Is The Works still in Glasgow? Sauchiehall street, or St Enochs Centre. They have some really cool stuff at cheaper prices (a set of acrylic paints for about £9, Watercolour paints for about £6). They do other craft things too. Pretty good quality stuff for trying things out. I buy from their website usually, I love their stuff. I found Cass Art a bit pricey for initial experimentation, but its good when you get really into something and want "pro" materials. by whoops53 (Fri 28th Oct 2022 9:41pm)
  • Need to be a bus....trains don't start trundling into Glasgow until 09:30am. Taxi? I used to have to work on a Sunday and had to work later due to not being able to get in on time. by whoops53 (Sat 29th Oct 2022 10:21pm)
  • Over here again for the Meaco - I got this one. [Dehumidifier from Amazon](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0060MY2KQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1) It's amazing, and I have it in the doorway of the living room and hallway. This makes sure it reaches all the rooms in my tiny flat. (It does up to 5 rooms). The weird thing about it is that it actually heats up the living room enough to not need heating on, which is a cool money saving tip. Laundry dries quicker too! by whoops53 (Tue 1st Nov 2022 12:17pm)

  • Get onto every housing association list, speak to Shelter and any other housing charity. You need to make them remember you as kind of an annoying pest, because its easy to forget about someone if they arent immediately obvious. Its a horrible situation, been there myself. Try and get your doctor to write a letter (costs about a tenner though) to say what impact its having on your mental health too. by whoops53 (Tue 15th Nov 2022 9:50am)
  • Yeah you are right. I live in Glasgow...I should have put this in the title. by whoops53 (Mon 3rd Apr 2023 3:46pm)
  • Get yourself a mobile dongle with a sim card, and you pay whatever the data package is for as long as you need it. Or you can use your phone data as a hotspot and use that if you have a laptop or tablet. I do both and it works like a dream. Downside is that it can get a bit spotty or buffering, but I'd rather that than be chained to an expensive contract for a couple of years. by whoops53 (Thu 20th Apr 2023 11:22am)
  • Thank you, I came here to say this too. Nobody knows the backstory to this, so its a bit unfair to pass judgement on this picture, tbh. by whoops53 (Thu 20th Apr 2023 3:19pm)

Possibly ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) or 15 minute city (only leave up to 100 times or get fined) Either way....I see many are being removed down in London. Wouldn't be surprised if it happened here too. Numpty's. by whoops53 (Sat 29th Apr 2023 4:10pm)

  • DELETED I hope the lad is ok and recovers mentally. I hope the parents take this the whole road and get as much compo as they deserve. And I hope that particular "police officer" gets fired and ends up either in jail, or cleaning the streets with a scabby toothbrush. by whoops53 (Sat 6th May 2023 5:25pm)
  • DELETED Yes I agree. I'm not anti-police ( for the downvoters, hello?) but this particular instance is just outright thuggery. The lad wasn't even fighting at this point, and according to the report, police are trained how to restrain someone and *place* them on the ground. Not chuck them full force cracking his head. by whoops53 (Sat 6th May 2023 6:00pm)
  • True...oh wait here we are.... by whoops53 (Sat 6th May 2023 6:52pm)
  • Thanks for your honesty, its appreciated, but that is a blanket statement unrelated to this particular thread. This is about a police officer using brute force against a lad for no other reason, than he can. Because "he's the police". No sorry, being police does not mean you can batter folk. They have been trained how to restrain people, and throwing some guy to the ground is just disgusting. What if the wee guy had been killed due to him smacking his head off the ground? What then? by whoops53 (Sat 6th May 2023 6:55pm)

If you leave the window open, there is mesh you can get off amazon fairly cheaply that you can fix up over the space, and remove on your return. by whoops53 (Mon 15th May 2023 9:23am)
  • No probs. Mouse prevention mesh, rodent mesh etc cost less than £20 so I hope that works for you. I got some for stopping spiders coming through the vents at my place and they worked amazingly. by whoops53 (Mon 15th May 2023 10:30am)

  • Get yourself on the housing association lists, seriously.... by whoops53 (Fri 9th Jun 2023 8:36pm)
  • omg, what? Get yourself on every housing association list that you can. by whoops53 (Fri 9th Jun 2023 8:36pm)
  • I have no idea either, to be honest. I live in Scotland and know that private rental places are more expensive than council or housing association houses. I was just trying to suggest an alternative (cheaper) source of housing. Those who downvote have their own reasons for doing so, and we may never know what they are. by whoops53 (Fri 9th Jun 2023 9:19pm)
  • I have no idea of the downvotes on my comment either. But its fine if people disagree, everyone has their own opinion. by whoops53 (Fri 9th Jun 2023 9:20pm)

  • I said it to two people. by whoops53 (Fri 9th Jun 2023 10:07pm)
  • Look I just offered an opinion. If having an opinion gets downvotes, then I don't know what's going on really. I'm not having a *go* at someone paying high rents,......but hey, whatever. by whoops53 (Fri 9th Jun 2023 10:14pm)
  • No idea....everybody just piles on once they see a few doing it, I think. The comment I made before yours about the person who has everything included with their rent - I was genuinely happy they got a good deal on that. It got 9 downvotes! The sunshine must be making them all a bit grumpy I think :) by whoops53 (Sat 10th Jun 2023 7:07am)
  • I suggested it because HA have cheaper rents than private rent and you get more for your money (in terms of paying less of a deposit, getting stuff fixed, and being able to decorate as you like and also being able to keep pets if you want). It was only a suggestion and the downvoting is a mystery to me, but if some folk don't like what I said, well, that's just life really. by whoops53 (Sat 10th Jun 2023 9:36am)
  • Heh! This made me chuckle! :) by whoops53 (Sat 10th Jun 2023 10:39am)
  • Ok by whoops53 (Sat 10th Jun 2023 10:37am)
  • Where in *any* of my comments did I ever say it was *easy?* All I suggested was to get on the list. *Nowhere* did I ever say "Oh just apply and you'll get a house soon/in a week/month/year" by whoops53 (Sat 10th Jun 2023 11:32am)
  • It was a simple suggestion based on my opinion and experience. Doesn't mean I'm right, and it doesn't mean I'm wrong. by whoops53 (Sat 10th Jun 2023 12:46pm)
  • I'm not complaining though....? There's more to life than a few reddit downvotes, heh! by whoops53 (Sat 10th Jun 2023 3:58pm)

  • Yep, just got over it - I'm sure it was Covid related. (No testing kits at home so unconfirmed) The breathless-ness was panicking me, I've never struggled to breathe so much in my life! It lasted about 10 days, snottery, coughing, feeling sick, no appetite, tired all the time...brutal. Just rest and drink loads of water or diluting juice. by whoops53 (Sun 11th Jun 2023 9:45am)
  • I didn't repeatedly ask why the downvotes, in fact I didn't even ask once, never mind make out it was some personal vendetta...I'm really not that insecure, honestly....I said I have *no idea why the downvotes are happening.* Go outside and enjoy the warmth instead of harping on about some inconsequential thing which happened yesterday. Life is too short. by whoops53 (Sun 11th Jun 2023 5:14pm)
  • I agree with you actually, having experienced the "Oh hello, my family of 6 and two dogs are just going to set up here and invade your privacy" (Literally those words) I was a little bit drunk on beer and just waved my arm around thinking I was shooing them off, but they took it as "Oh yeah, pitch up here and camp for 14 days if you like, no probs" I was the one who moved the next morning. by whoops53 (Tue 13th Jun 2023 3:13pm)
  • My dog is blind now, so walking isn't a thing we do. She potters in the garden but can only tolerate about 5 mins in this weather before she wants to go back in. Puppy toilet training mats are the best invention ever! by whoops53 (Tue 13th Jun 2023 7:44pm)
  • Trying to work in cave-like conditions right now! Windows shut, blinds down and closed up and its *still 23* degrees inside here! Poor dog wants to play but she lasts 5 mins with her squeaky toy before giving up and lying down (thank god!). I have juice and ice cubes in rotation. I went outside to shove some rubbish in the bin and the physical wall of heat....omg! \**Dear Universe... you can dial it down a notch, but no rain yet, cheers!* by whoops53 (Wed 14th Jun 2023 12:45pm)
  • I'm sitting comfortably inside at 21 degrees, compared to 27 outside. Don't really want that hot air flowing through my house. 23 is hot for me. I don't have air con because I live in Scotland and need a dehumidifier rather than an air con. by whoops53 (Wed 14th Jun 2023 2:29pm)

Cite health issues, young babies, safety concerns, groups hanging around the close door (even if they aren't)...also I found this [We are Scotland's Ombudsman | SPSO](https://www.spso.org.uk/spso) They are blaming COVID for a 4 month wait, but that was then. You don't know when this was updated so its worth a shot. by whoops53 (Wed 14th Jun 2023 7:05pm)

  • Oh really? God that's awful...I was all chuffed thinking I had found a wee gem of information that might actually help OP (I just googled "Do HA's have an Ombudsman?") Didn't realise they were worse then useless. by whoops53 (Wed 14th Jun 2023 8:39pm)

  • Never seen him, but there used to be a guy in centre of town with a dog (pre covid) and the dog put down its ball at random passers by for them to throw. he made some good money from what I saw. Feckin dog never asked *me* to throw the ball though....clearly not nice looking enough! heh :) And yes its hot. I have done zero work today - leaving it for tonight. Maybe. by whoops53 (Thu 15th Jun 2023 4:14pm)

I am not religious either way and just loathe the whole messy noise of it. I have no suggestions of ways to avoid it I'm afraid, but you could \*spice things up by hanging a Tri - colour out of the window as silent protest. \*Joking, obvs....please don't do this....someone I knew along the route did this, and it wasn't pretty.... by whoops53 (Sat 17th Jun 2023 9:47am)

I know you have been there 2 years + but keep staying polite and use the garden to sit in (maybe stay off their furniture for a while though just to keep things sweet). This is your home and you are entitled to use it - I wonder if a little garden party type thing would bring you all together? by whoops53 (Sun 18th Jun 2023 6:50am)

Don't be walking on eggshells though "just in case the neighbours get annoyed" You pay your way for your home just like they do, so try and enjoy it for as long as you are there. • I agree with you about the legality of wheelchair access! I worked in an office that paid thousands getting their access reworked to accommodate wheelchairs, because they had already been warned by the council that not doing do would result in massive fines. (office was a lawyers). I understand some buildings cannot structurally support wheelchair access (due to restrictions or stairs etc) but then some other method has to be proved acceptable. by whoops53 (Sat 29th Jul 2023 4:54pm)
  • I misread that as "uni world cycling" as in unicycling. Now THAT I would make an effort to go see :) by whoops53 (Sat 29th Jul 2023 5:01pm)
  • Oh I totally understand the frustration you must be feeling. I used to be a retail manager, and every shop we had, had a ramp situated behind the shop door so we could grab it and assist people coming in or out of the shop. As you say, obtaining one isn't that hard, so I don't see a problem either. Before the access was installed at the office I was at, we had wheelchair clients having to sign official documents outside in the street, or make arrangements to meet with them in their home or a cafe somewhere (if chair friendly). I am not a wheelchair user, but I get so annoyed at society expecting everyone to function the same way, and those who can't get left to struggle along as best they can. by whoops53 (Sat 29th Jul 2023 5:24pm)

  • I had the same issue and ended up using two kitchen bin bags to tie it up in, and then taking it outside every night to my wheelie bin (which also has a giant bin bag in it). In the hot weather, I had fly traps on the window and those sticky paper things that hang from the ceiling. I ended up having to pay to get it taken away regardless because the flies were ridiculous. Its fine now since I moved my bin down to the very bottom of the garden. by whoops53 (Tue 1st Aug 2023 9:30pm)
  • This sounds stupid, maybe, but it just occurred to me. Would you feel comfortable with spraying fly spray on and around your bin? Its an extra step when you take out the rubbish, but it would kill anything lurking there. Or a more natural spray like peppermint, Basil, pine scented cleaning fluid..... Your neighbour who just dumps food....pretty sure that's against the law. You ~~get special bags from the council for food waste~~ (misinformation, sorry) can buy food waste bin bags at the supermarket...shove a roll in their letterbox, heh! by whoops53 (Tue 1st Aug 2023 9:48pm)
  • Its lovely that you are so understanding and compassionate towards your neighbour. Yes, have a tactful chat with her (while handing over the food waste bags) People with ND, sometimes do need to have it spelled out exactly what needs to be done and why. • >Can nobody really live without a car for a few days? Its not about that...its two weeks worth of people not being able to get to work, or get carers in to help the disabled or chronically ill folk if needs be. Its two weeks worth of disrupted business or shops having to shut for the duration because they can't get deliveries in (when they hoped to be able to cash in on the extra footfall) by whoops53 (Sat 5th Aug 2023 11:12am)
  • I had to get a train from Queen Street to Edinburgh, but got dropped off miles from Central, just because the car couldn't access any of the roads, and the diversions were chaos. So trying to get past the nightmare barriers, diversions, and *people,* walking to Queen Street, made me miss my train. Got a later one, crammed with tourists going to the festival...got off at Waverly, heaving with folk....I was having many meltdowns I can tell you! by whoops53 (Sat 5th Aug 2023 11:17am)

  • I did the same between central and queen street, and its doable in 20 mins but gods sake your mental health will take a few days to recover, lemme tell ye! How late is late....because jumping the barricades could be an option..... by whoops53 (Sun 6th Aug 2023 3:26pm)
  • I found this on Glasgow Live...does that help? Roads are shut until 11.59am on the Tuesday, so you might actually have a clear road through if they shift the barriers... [Full list of Glasgow roads closed today as UCI Cycling road race arrives in Glasgow - Glasgow Live](https://www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/full-list-glasgow-roads-closed-27456087) EDIT - Hopefully someone can confirm if the barriers will be removed by whoops53 (Sun 6th Aug 2023 4:21pm)
  • Well they have manned sections of closed off road, where the paid attendants can remove the barriers a bit in order to let people cross (while yelling at everyone to move quickly) These are not easily identifiable and are bottlenecks due to a mix of general fans hanging around and people who want to cross over. Its not very well organised and I'm surprised nobody has been hurt yet. by whoops53 (Sun 6th Aug 2023 6:16pm)
  • This is particularly bad it seems. I get that its a huge event which *potentially* brings in money, but when businesses are closing because no deliveries can be made, people who live there can't get access to services, and workers can't get to work...I'm not sure who is benefiting here to be honest. by whoops53 (Sun 6th Aug 2023 6:51pm)
  • The rats will be all over that tonight. It'll be worse come tomorrow. See if I trip over anything going to work, I swear to god, someone's getting a barrier necklace to wear. *\*stomps away feeling very brave, knowing fine well that swearing will happen and that's all\** by whoops53 (Sun 6th Aug 2023 8:21pm)

You can leave a note on the app, which gets sent via the control to any driver who picks up the fare. I've had occasions where the driver has phoned me to say they aren't doing it and passing it back to control though. by whoops53 (Thu 17th Aug 2023 5:31pm)

Sorry I can't be of more help. :( by whoops53 (Sun 20th Aug 2023 10:37am)
  • Indeed is quite good, but try and apply for jobs that need you to apply on the actual site relating to the job itself. Don't make an Indeed account because you get endless calls about canvassing jobs. (From my experience) by whoops53 (Sun 20th Aug 2023 9:54pm)
  • How do you do that? Its been a while because I deleted everything and never went back. I remember trying to leave things blank but i couldn't go any further unless I filled things out. Is there a way for details not to be shared? I'll have a wee look tomorrow, just out of curiosity :) by whoops53 (Sun 20th Aug 2023 11:04pm)
  • Thanks, yes...previous comment suggested I make the CV private. I didn't see that option at the time when I uploaded it. I tried to keep the personal fields blank which obviously meant I couldn't proceed. So I filled them in, and started getting sales interviews, door to door canvassing, and street collections. My CV was geared towards Admin and Health orientated jobs. Going to have a look later today. :) by whoops53 (Mon 21st Aug 2023 6:42am)

  • Yes you can, but frankly its as much use as peeing in the wind. Nobody replies (not even an automatic reply). Feeling threatened and intimidated is really scary and should be taken seriously. These guys are up to no good, and yes, its not a *crime* to cover your face while carrying large sticks and zooming around on quad bikes...but its not exactly normal. by whoops53 (Tue 22nd Aug 2023 1:15pm)
  • Yes they do, but it costs loads more due to "call out" fees. Last time I got a vet out it was £80 + consultation + meds. (Renfrewshire, not Glasgow though, and pre covid) by whoops53 (Tue 22nd Aug 2023 1:24pm)
  • Well I was advised that it was a call out fee of £80, and then the consult, then the meds. I would double check though, because they might have "business hour call out fees" and then "out of hours business call out fees". I'm only saying that because there have been a lot of changes at my vets with regard to their opening hours and consult fees. by whoops53 (Tue 22nd Aug 2023 2:06pm)

  • Ok. by whoops53 (Tue 22nd Aug 2023 2:10pm)

  • I would (kindly) suggest that you ask the neighbours before asking random people on reddit. I enjoy bees, and have a passing interest in bee keeping, but personally wouldn't subject my neighbours to a swarm of them, even if we do live in the countryside. by whoops53 (Tue 22nd Aug 2023 8:44pm)
  • I have the same dehumidifier, in a ground floor cottage flat, Glasgow. My humidity runs between 46% & 56% most days. Mine sits in the hallway/living room to gather the humidity from around the flat. I take it you know not to place it near the bathroom? Doing the laundry, watering plants, and general crap weather will obv contribute to the humidity levels, but try placing it in different areas to see if that makes a difference. This machines are pretty powerful - enough (they say) to do a 5 bedroom house. Keep the windows open if you can stand to. by whoops53 (Wed 23rd Aug 2023 10:38am)
  • It depends on floor space to be honest. Bathrooms emit humidity from baths and showers, so the readings will be altered. I wouldn't (personally) have a dehumidifier near a bathroom. These are really useful...I have one in the living room, bedroom, and hallway (they were a pack of 3 when I got them) [2-Pack LCD Digital Hygrometer Thermometer, Mini Digital Temperature Meter Humidity Gauge for Greenhouse Cars Home Office, Black : Amazon.co.uk: Home & Kitchen](https://www.amazon.co.uk/EEEKit-Temperature-Thermometer-Hygrometer-Greenhouse/dp/B07HNXH8MT/ref=sr_1_15?crid=1FD6WHAMH7EBJ&keywords=humidity%2Bmeters&qid=1692799467&sprefix=humidity%2Bmeters%2Caps%2C181&sr=8-15&th=1) by whoops53 (Wed 23rd Aug 2023 3:08pm)
  • Because the bathroom and immediate area (doorway) emit the humidity from baths and showers. I don't know how your bathroom is situated, but I wouldn't put it anywhere near a bathroom. I got humidity meters from Amazon (pack of 3, now a pack of two cheeky buggers) [2-Pack LCD Digital Hygrometer Thermometer, Mini Digital Temperature Meter Humidity Gauge for Greenhouse Cars Home Office, Black : Amazon.co.uk: Home & Kitchen](https://www.amazon.co.uk/EEEKit-Temperature-Thermometer-Hygrometer-Greenhouse/dp/B07HNXH8MT/ref=sr_1_15?crid=1FD6WHAMH7EBJ&keywords=humidity%2Bmeters&qid=1692799467&sprefix=humidity%2Bmeters%2Caps%2C181&sr=8-15&th=1) by whoops53 (Wed 23rd Aug 2023 3:06pm)
  • My bad...don't run the dehumidifier when your windows are open! I wasn't clear about that, haha! Yes, get the steam out of the window. Also I found these really useful...they came in a pack of 3 when I got them, but its down to 2 now. But they show the readings for any room you keep them in, and its weird how different the readings are in each room. For example I'm 48% living room, 40% hallway, 34% in bedroom currently. [2-Pack LCD Digital Hygrometer Thermometer, Mini Digital Temperature Meter Humidity Gauge for Greenhouse Cars Home Office, Black : Amazon.co.uk: Home & Kitchen](https://www.amazon.co.uk/EEEKit-Temperature-Thermometer-Hygrometer-Greenhouse/dp/B07HNXH8MT/ref=sr_1_15?crid=1FD6WHAMH7EBJ&keywords=humidity%2Bmeters&qid=1692799467&sprefix=humidity%2Bmeters%2Caps%2C181&sr=8-15&th=1) by whoops53 (Wed 23rd Aug 2023 3:13pm)

To be fair, these were craft magazines - and around £4 each, so it could be the niche ones are not being stocked much? Other than that, no idea...could be distribution issues maybe. by whoops53 (Fri 25th Aug 2023 10:01am)
  • Aww thank you for even trying though! I can't stand it when people don't pick up after their dog. I even trotted after someone with a spare (empty) poo bag because I always have them on me in various jackets and bags when walking my dog. "Goin' *you* lift up the shite then if you are that fucking bothered" I was told in no uncertain terms, with their dog standing staring at me for extra scare tactics. Yes. • Not this time, Tesco by whoops53 (Mon 28th Aug 2023 12:00pm)
  • Its the sheer brass neck of them now isn't it? When I was in retail, at least they had the decency to look a bit shifty, but now its straight in there, browse around, pick up stuff and out the door. Totally bypassing the checkouts or self service. No solution, because all that'll happen is prices will continue to rise and more people will be at it. by whoops53 (Mon 28th Aug 2023 12:12pm)
  • That pharmacist is your g/f, right? yeah...thought so :) by whoops53 (Mon 28th Aug 2023 6:48pm)
  • People are pushing the boundaries in all ways now. because there are no consequences, or the trouble it causes isn't worth the hassle. Its horrible, and I get so annoyed as well, but I don't know what the answer is. by whoops53 (Tue 29th Aug 2023 1:04pm)
  • Exactly! You don't want to end up in hospital, because I know from experience (not mine, seen it happen) once somebody starts having a pop at "puffin' pete" sitting with his music on and vaping, *everybody* starts looking out the window because the poor person is getting kicked up and down the bus. by whoops53 (Tue 29th Aug 2023 1:15pm)
  • I agree...the fights I've seen on buses with kids "carrying on" is just quite intimidating now. by whoops53 (Tue 29th Aug 2023 2:44pm)
  • > its a game of avoiding being caught and that becomes all that is important. This is exactly my feeling as well. Its awful. by whoops53 (Tue 29th Aug 2023 2:49pm)
  • Oh I remember that post, and commented in agreement with you. I do feel more intimidated now going into town than I ever did before. I just hunker down with my music on and ignore everybody! by whoops53 (Tue 29th Aug 2023 2:48pm)
  • Yeah...they would just stick your magic brolly up your arse nowadays, and not say a word....! by whoops53 (Tue 29th Aug 2023 2:46pm)
  • Never thought of it that way. Maybe it makes them feel more powerful knowing they can do it and nobody will say anything? Sad days. by whoops53 (Tue 29th Aug 2023 2:53pm)
  • OUCH! I watched that thinking poor guy should have kept shtum. But yeah, this is why nobody says anything. by whoops53 (Tue 29th Aug 2023 2:59pm)
  • I agree...but nobody wants to make the first move in case they end up being the only one...Everyone looks away and pretends it isn't happening. Although in the case of one guy blasting out his (crappy) music, one woman started playing opera and there was a music battle as everyone began playing a cacophony of different tunes to drown out one guy! So funny :) by whoops53 (Tue 29th Aug 2023 5:03pm)
  • Its about keeping yourself safe as well though :) No point in being injured trying to be a hero. by whoops53 (Tue 29th Aug 2023 7:14pm)

  • Oooh! Well thanks for that! Glad I didn't google it after all, heh! by whoops53 (Thu 31st Aug 2023 2:46pm)

  • Oh I'm a firm believer in Karma. And there was once upon a time I *wasn't* so cynical about people, but sadly have since been proved naïve, which has coloured my view somewhat. Instead of waiting for them to change their ways or otherwise come to the conclusion that good overcomes the bad, I just wait for the inevitable disappointment. by whoops53 (Wed 6th Sep 2023 2:05pm)
  • >We all need to be strong and **never forget how beautiful this world is** (and can be). True words, yes. This world is a beautiful place, and I am always hopeful things will change. by whoops53 (Wed 6th Sep 2023 3:50pm)
  • I thought the police were *meant* to help with stuff like that. Isn't that their job? Stay with friends or family elsewhere until you get the restraining order, or something sorted out. by whoops53 (Mon 11th Sep 2023 8:32am)
  • Gosh I am so sorry to hear this. No wonder you feel so vulnerable. Do either you or your mum have carers? I wonder if they know of any other courses of action or people who could help? I also wonder if contacting your doctor to help support you in your mental health would help also. Surely nobody in this day and age should be living in fear like this. I must say though, given the nature of this "person", I think the police would not allow them to return to your house in any event. Are they local? Do you know them? by whoops53 (Mon 11th Sep 2023 10:01am)
  • Oh how distressing for you! Yes, clearly she has major mental health issues caused by her addictions. She might have a support worker herself now that she has been in trouble and has a record now. I hope you get this resolved as soon as possible...go to the papers if you have to. Publicising your story might well shame the authorities into taking some action! :) by whoops53 (Mon 11th Sep 2023 1:49pm)
  • Coming here for comments - I can't help with a suggestion I'm afraid. The ones I liked have closed down now ~~due to~~ since Covid and I haven't been in an independent one for so long now. I just grab coffee on the go these days :( (Anyone remember Beanscene...good memories!) by whoops53 (Wed 13th Sep 2023 6:48am)
  • Oh? I didn't experience that and I'm sorry you did. I thought it was alright really....that and Borders bookshop. by whoops53 (Wed 13th Sep 2023 11:52am)
  • Oh wow...I just did that. Well I don't know what to say now. You have a breach charge just because you let your dogs out the back? And OP's mum (who is disabled according to OP) chased you around the garden when drunk? I mean, lets not bring neighbourhood arguments online, but its nice to see another side of this story. Thanks for sharing your experience. :) by whoops53 (Wed 13th Sep 2023 3:08pm)
  • I respect that, of course. I would say though...if the police are involved enough to advise she remove her slanderous posts on Facebook...it might be worth putting over your side of the story? It must be so stressful for you to see this, and I'm sorry you are going through it - you sound like you have enough on your plate....nobody deserves this. by whoops53 (Wed 13th Sep 2023 3:32pm)
  • "... a tiny cock mobile..." "... encased in his wanker wagon ..." Oh my god I've got tears now with laughing so much! *wanker wagon.....*! by whoops53 (Wed 13th Sep 2023 6:01pm)
  • Y'know, I really admire that you, a young guy, has stepped up and been brave enough to say how you feel. Not enough guys do this. Ok, so you have a good doctor, and are doing the Wellbeing course, these are two great positives. You work, and you study...another two good things. What happens when your thoughts spiral? I found it helpful to say things to myself like "Who is telling me this? Did this happen or am I making it up?" This does two things...one, it made me realise I tell myself so many stories that aren't true. Nobody has said anything of the sort except me. Two, I found I had a habit of creating scenarios which served to make me feel negatively about certain situations. I ruminated a lot and just made myself feel really crap. Which can be quite a difficult mindset to get out of. What do you do when you aren't studying or working? Do you enjoy your course or are you finding it difficult? What about work, hows that going? by whoops53 (Fri 15th Sep 2023 6:24pm)
  • Yeah, reading your reply made me think that's a lot of mental energy you are putting out into the world and you probably need some quiet time. I used to be in retail and know how busy it can be! ".... *and when I don't hear what I want to hear I just make myself worse.....*" This is incredibly self aware of you....very honest. Although keeping it to yourself probably isn't the best idea (from experience) because you just keep going round in circles. I found that writing helped me...kind of like an expressive journal where I just ranted and vented. Also [Pi, your personal AI](https://pi.ai/talk) and [em x archii](https://em.archii.io/login) are very helpful for talking out your feelings. I know they are AI, but when I've been in a dark place...even reading supportive words and feeling *listened* to without any snarky remarks or feeling judged is so comforting. by whoops53 (Fri 15th Sep 2023 7:56pm)

  • Tenement flat -> Cottage flat T/Flat (advantages) Door entry buzzer made it feel safer. However, random's still entered the close due to buzzing up flats saying they were friends of another flat and "they had just popped out". This will depend on the area of course....I was pretty central and close to pubs. Other than that it was quite good. No garden though. Didn't hear neighbours much unless they were on the stairs being loud. Good collaboration on most things, unless it involved lots of money (fixing roof etc). Bin wars...do not use anyone's bin but your own or your window will be egged. Currently in lower cottage flat. Loving the garden, hating the bugs. by whoops53 (Sun 1st Oct 2023 9:48pm)

I'm not saying that you are, of course, but making eye contact isn't something a lot of people find comfortable doing. And honestly...you sound like you look like a regular person People are generally lost in their own thoughts for the most part and don't remember who they pass in the street at all. by whoops53 (Fri 13th Oct 2023 5:54pm)

  • Woman here. One thing I have learned is that you can't "fix" people. No matter how hard you try, all you do is end up destroying yourself trying to put them back together. I understand you need closure, or an understanding of just what happened here, but for your own mental health....focus on yourself first. Get yourself into a better place emotionally and mentally. It only takes the littlest steps, but you need to keep moving forward. Eat, sleep, go to work, pay bills - all the mundane bits of life, with something of a hobby thrown in for distraction. "..... *I’m desperate to know the truth but I’m in bits thinking of all the things folk are saying about me*....." People's opinions of you are based on what she told them. She is a liar. Only you know your truth, so hold onto that. Trying to change anyone's opinion of you is a fruitless exercise and it will destroy you in the process of trying. The people who truly know you, know who you are and what you are like, will not pay attention to lies. by whoops53 (Wed 25th Oct 2023 7:19am)

  • Yes, Paisley has a lot of beautiful buildings and history surrounding it. Lots of outdoorsy things to do....train to Lochwinnoch gives you trails, and also Glenniffer Braes is very much worth exploring (waterfalls, standing stones etc). Barshaw Park is along Glasgow road. The council do try and have seasonal events happening, and there is a farmers market every month, as well as a few arty crafty things going on. Shopping is not really a thing now, (apart from Braehead) but there are nice places to go and have coffee and chill. Restaurants are alright as well. Don't mind the sirens, ignore the....erm....*interesting characters* who seem to have fun with shouting their business to each other across the high street, occasionally ending up in a fight. A few buskers here and there....the new library will be opening soon, (possibly). So yeah, its not a bad place as such....its just neglected. by whoops53 (Fri 3rd Nov 2023 3:59pm)

Just get a general sense of what they are like...maybe chap on their door asking about something innocuous, like...erm....garden stuff, or bin day rota, I dunno. Its a discussion, and even if we had different opinions, I doubt we would have come to blows over it :) Its a bit shit about your skateboarding neighbour (assuming its done with now)...why do people (HA's and councils) think its ok to put folk with issues in amongst ~~normal~~ ordinary people? I had a neighbour with MH issues and he played football in his flat, threw furniture around off the walls, and came flying out his door one time holding a knife when I was coming up the close stairs. Gave me the fright of my life that time, but when he saw it was me, he was ok (I was the only one, apparently, to treat him with respect...truth was I was too scared to complain about him so was extra nice, heh) by whoops53 (Tue 7th Nov 2023 8:58pm)
  • Its never been a proper supportive system since way back....its always hobbled along making do, scrabbling around for bits of help. Its disgusting, and always the worse off get the worst treatment. I pretty much shat myself too...grinning like an idiot, being extra nice. Lucky he didn't get the wrong impression and think I was after him, haha! by whoops53 (Tue 7th Nov 2023 10:32pm)
  • Its scary as hell isn't it...how are we supposed to tell if its urgent or not? That's what GP's are for! Its somewhere between taking yourself to A&E because you think you are having a stroke, or going to minor ailments at the chemist because you have sliced your finger open and need some germolene. by whoops53 (Tue 14th Nov 2023 1:17pm)
  • Firstly I want to say that I'm glad you are ok, and it wasn't the stroke you thought it was. Secondly, your comment makes *traumatic* reading. The sheer horror of it all must have been awful for you, never mind the poor folk actually going through it.....how on earth has it got so very bad without something being done? by whoops53 (Tue 14th Nov 2023 2:22pm)
  • I agree. Especially about the people who don't want to make a fuss (mostly the elderly, who *need* the extra support and care) They are quite stoic and say things like "Oh, the NHS are busy enough, I don't want to bother them..." while sitting there with an ulcer on their leg which isn't healing up. by whoops53 (Tue 14th Nov 2023 3:48pm)
  • There is nothing to auction off....we couldn't *give* it away now. I know a few people who are taking out private health care plans, so that they can be seen quickly. The cynical side of me thinks this is exactly what the Govt have been doing...**deliberately breaking** the NHS bit by slow bit and "nudging" us all towards paying for our care, so they don't get the blame for it all going to pot. by whoops53 (Tue 14th Nov 2023 3:45pm)
  • Thank you Dr Spoogle. I appreciate your concern and it is noted. I merely used this as an example. :) by whoops53 (Tue 14th Nov 2023 4:44pm)
  • I would ask the council to come and sort it out. They can't tell homeowners how to tend to their gardens, but if there is greenery overhanging and obstructing public thoroughfares, then they have an obligation to clear it. As to when though....that's a different situation. Or you could do it yourself? by whoops53 (Tue 14th Nov 2023 6:57pm)
  • My surgery is the same...*and* they have a message on their answering machine (before you press an option for a service) that they and their staff will not tolerate any abuse from patients, and "any such occurrence will result in your removal from our listings" Damn cheek, honestly...if they ran a proper service, perhaps folk wouldn't get pissed off! by whoops53 (Tue 14th Nov 2023 10:03pm)
  • Something similar was raised a wee while ago, about receptionists *deciding* on whether you get seen by a GP, Nurse, or tomorrow, or next week etc....and a "doctor" came on and said that unfortunately receptionists had indeed become the gatekeepers of who the doctor sees because they are so busy. Which immediately led me to wonder how he had the time to go on reddit.... by whoops53 (Tue 14th Nov 2023 10:09pm)
  • I'm glad you are ok now. I dread to think that having to wait so long for basic help when you feel like you are on your last legs will make people even more afraid of going to their GP or A&E. by whoops53 (Tue 14th Nov 2023 10:05pm)
  • Following for responses. Sorry I can't help....I haven't heard of Kitty, but reading the archived thread, seems she was really good. I went to Petrona in the Paisley Centre but she's away now due to Covid shutting her down. Wonder how she is (or where she is...I think she had a place in the Barra's too), she was lovely. by whoops53 (Fri 17th Nov 2023 3:14pm)
  • God that's far too cold...plus you would breathing in that cold damp air as well. I would keep trying with the landlord, but meanwhile (echoing the rest of the comments) get a dehumidifier, get some thick curtains for your single glazed window (or even hang a throw on it....pinned up with drawing pins. Looks weird, but your health matters. Cover the windows with cling film, it acts as temporary double glazing. Place some rolled up towels at the window and at your doorway. Get some cat litter in bowls and put it around the place to draw in the moisture (or you get some little damp boxes from poundland...its about a fiver for 4) My heating kicks in at 19 degrees, and top temp just now is set to 21. I'm a bottom cottage flat so its colder. Your bill is way too high. by whoops53 (Sat 18th Nov 2023 6:23pm)
  • I'm all for a bit of teal, but this is just too dark for the ~~amount~~ lack of light coming in. This would be so cold and depressing on a Sunday afternoon, in the pouring rain, in Winter. Plus the price, obviously by whoops53 (Sun 19th Nov 2023 11:56am)
  • OMG! I remember that, it was bloody brilliant and I loved every post he made. He brought out a book about it, got busted by his bosses and was fired as far as I can recall. You can read bits of the blog on Wayback machine https://web.archive.org/web/20070201000000\*/http://www.bloodbus.com by whoops53 (Mon 20th Nov 2023 2:21pm)
  • Ok, so once you get there, you see the calendar style layout? Do you see some dates have a blue circle around them? Well, hover on one of those circles (don't click yet) and it says something like "1 capture" then a wee number like 62.19.03 (for example). Click on the number and it will take you to the post. From there you can click on other posts, or go back and click on another date. by whoops53 (Mon 20th Nov 2023 8:02pm)
  • You are welcome....I've been reading it on and off all afternoon. Barely any work done, ha! by whoops53 (Mon 20th Nov 2023 9:33pm)
  • Awww, I am so happy for you (although can do a hard relate to the losing stuff) by whoops53 (Fri 24th Nov 2023 2:25pm)
  • I know! I've been out with the dog and its so pretty! I'm going to take photos later before it gets ruined by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Dec 2023 3:45am)
  • Nope, I was out with the dog early hours feeling great, then I went for a walk to take photos. I love the snow! by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Dec 2023 12:47pm)
  • I would get your thyroid checked to be honest. Same thing happened with me, I got meds and now I'm warm and toasty. by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Dec 2023 12:51pm)
  • Well, they just lobbed it over the sign. Its a social comment. Very astute I think :) by whoops53 (Sat 2nd Dec 2023 4:00pm)
  • I really love these! I love B&W anyway, but these have a softer quality and more depth to them. Brilliant! by whoops53 (Fri 8th Dec 2023 8:54am)
  • Brolly Rage A loud assertive "Excuse me please" works wonders. I honestly don't mean to startle folk off into the road when I say that, but I need my eyes, thanks. by whoops53 (Fri 8th Dec 2023 6:29pm)
  • This bit says its allowed.... [https://www.glasgowairport.com/at-the-airport/airport-security/security-faq](https://www.glasgowairport.com/at-the-airport/airport-security/security-faqs/) Twiddling your thumbs with wool = finger knitting? (joking..!) by whoops53 (Sat 9th Dec 2023 11:37am)
