  • There’s a guy called Roman, has a little garage in Wishaw in a little industrial block next to the big Tesco, Quarry street I think. He’s the unit at thr very end. Fantastic work and better prices. Quoted me £300 to paint a roof, boot lid and repair and paint a bonnet. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 17th Jun 2020 12:29am)
  • Is the highland cow new ? Haven’t been in a good while but can’t recall seeing any last time I was. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 21st Jul 2020 2:40am)
  • My old neighbour works here, originally at urban funk, not my type of barbers with the double cut and wash etc but was a damn good cut I got from him. I just prefer the old school in-cut-out type barbers! by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 21st Jul 2020 2:46am)
  • If your intention was for people to read that like scoan them well played. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 24th Jul 2020 5:26pm)
  • I was recommended Forresters dry cleaners on Paisley road west. They’ve done a 100year old delicate christening gown for me and it was spot on. It was Sew easy alterations that recommended them and they’ve never let me down either. by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 25th Jul 2020 2:14am)
  • I’ve been there and although the steak was great, I’m really not a fan of truffle oil, which is almost everything is cooked in. Usual friend of a friend type thing, but given Spanish Butcher and Butchershop are both open and Hutchesons isn’t, it sounds true. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 29th Jul 2020 3:07pm)
  • I do like it, usually decent but service is a bit more ‘relaxed’ imo Vs places of Hutchesons Calibre (even though it’s the same owners.) Going to Hutchesons always felt a bit special, Butchershop is more just a steak house. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 29th Jul 2020 3:05pm)
  • Also have a check on Facebook, there’s a few fold with vans that you can give them the item number, they’ll go get it for you and you don’t pay them till they deliver. Some do big runs at a time so you may need to wait though. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 2nd Aug 2020 5:20pm)
  • I just look at it and think why on earth would you shape a hospital like that ? There’s so much wasted space (as someone said) inside it. It would have made more sense to build a generic rectangular boring building that is more functional...and cheaper! These aren’t thr type of buildings that need to be architecturally admire etc. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 11th Aug 2020 9:48am)
  • Ah right, I’ll give it a look up. I get the positive impacts to the mental side of things, I’m just always a bit cynical when millions and millions are spent and there seems to be more questions than answers lol by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 11th Aug 2020 10:16am)
  • Sorry about your situation. Don’t have any first hand experience in this type of situation but I have dealt with Glasgow City Mission before, maybe worth giving them a call too. May be able to offer some sort of help. 0141 221 2630. They are on the corner of Crimea street, near the Clyde. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 16th Aug 2020 12:55pm)
  • I think Hillingdon has a larger in store collection. Had the same experience with them. Would use them again no problem. by Thunder_Munkey (Mon 31st Aug 2020 2:27am)
  • Not sure if it would be either of your thing, but rock climbing at the Glasgow climbing Center. Bit different from the norm. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 9th Sep 2020 4:21am)
  • I went on the site last week I think and it was allowing bookings, possibly changed since then? by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 9th Sep 2020 1:21pm)
  • There’s a great Ted Talk by a chap called Johan Hari (sp) talking about similar rooms in Portugal and how addiction can be caused by a missing element in a persons life such as love. maybe the general view of ‘junkie scum’ has led to the drug problem gradually getting worse because it’s a infinitely downward spiralling circle of hate. (Public hating junkies, junkies hating themselves) Maybe, and I truly hope this would be the case, That if these rooms existed and someone overdosed, the feeling of that person after being ‘saved’ would change the view of the user enough to want to encourage change in them self. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 15th Sep 2020 11:35pm)
  • Its probably not the same when they are bumped back out on the street again ? I think the theory behind the rooms is to provide help, care etc not just say ‘here - smack up whenever’ by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 15th Sep 2020 11:57pm)
  • Always bothers me when folk put a cone on the horse. Ruins the whole thing. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 16th Sep 2020 2:47pm)
  • Never used them but incase of negative reviews I’ve used, and have loads of mates used Diamond tints in Rutherglen, always been great. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 29th Sep 2020 2:11pm)
  • I live in Baillieston, have done for the past 4 years, moved from just along in Carntyne. I’m a little further away from Easterhouse though. But I love it here. I find it very safe, I’ve never had any cause for concern, and my partner who’s from Aberdeen used to be a little anxious about living here given the stories, but she loves it now and also feels very safe here and regularly goes walks or runs and doesn’t ever feel unsafe. Also It’s ideally located for almost everything. Access to all the major driving routes, Easterhouse train station for Queen street line and Baillieston for the Central line. Got a decent Main Street that has most of what you need, few supermarkets, few parks locally for kids/Dogs. I’ve rarely seen any trouble here, it’s generally quiet. Feel free to PM me any specific questions and I’d be happy to try answer them. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 13th Oct 2020 3:25pm)

  • She made a film called ‘Under the skin’ and it was filmed in parts of Glasgow, one scene she is walking along Duke St (I think it was) and being filmed from a van, I think because she looked slightly different from her usual self they didn’t warn the public, so they’re reactions of slight recognition of who she was was meant to be a reaction to what her character is. Very strange film IMO. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 9th Dec 2020 4:23pm)
  • Aye well I thought that, seen the folk with the big boards walking about the shop but seen an elderly couple both wearing the sunflower lanyards. My view is that if your vulnerable enough to need a mask exemption for breathing issues worsened by a mask, then you are the exact type of person that everyone else is wearing a mask to protect and should be staying in as much as you can! by Thunder_Munkey (Mon 28th Dec 2020 8:43am)
  • Stick to your guns mate. Problem with all the rules are they are so contradictory, so black and white, but so grey at the same time. Like if you were to spend Christmas Day with your parents, you had to leave at 00:01. but why would leaving at 17:00 the next day cause any more risk ? (assuming the 'group' had stayed the exact same) I think there should be an element of common sense to it, people are going to break the rules regardless, so would it not be better to give advice on how to stay safer rather than orders ? Like the vast majority of people would love to see friends and family on NYE, If small groups of people could stay effectively quarantined between Christmas and NYE, then I don't see things like that as a big issue. by Thunder_Munkey (Mon 28th Dec 2020 8:48am)

  • Thanks for posting this, we inadvertently came across this while walking the dogs, was pretty cool, other than the extremely large amount of smashed bottles. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 12th Mar 2021 7:04am)
  • Potholes. I’ve reported 3 that have still not been repaired 4+ months later. Busted so many tyres on them due to poor lighting or rain filling them up. by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 20th Mar 2021 8:19am)
  • Is motorbike an option for you ? would be perfect for commuting to Edinburgh in Summer. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 30th Mar 2021 6:08pm)
  • That’s all fine and well, but why utilise the people that are working making unnecessary modifications. Spend the time fixing roads that are fucked, the fact it happens year on year should be enough to make them realise how to spend time/money. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 2nd Apr 2021 11:54am)
  • Me ? Born and raised In the east mate. Just increasingly becoming angrier with GCC lol by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 2nd Apr 2021 1:13pm)
  • I agree on the face of it. But as said, there poorly planned, even more poorly assembled and a complete waste of money. London road as I said used to be 2 lanes, it was apple for cyclists, buses and cars (and the trucks in/out of Paterson’s. now it adds to traffic build up at the lights which increases pollution, public transport isn’t going to suddenly shoot up because there’s bud lanes etc, we should be allowing all traffic to flow more freely, not holding it all up by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 2nd Apr 2021 1:10pm)
  • Aye, this as well...Surely there can be some sort of common 'planned work' system so things don't need to be doubled worked. makes no sense. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 2nd Apr 2021 2:16pm)
  • On point 1. I get your point, and its fairly made...however just because 54% of people don't have access to a car, it would be silly to assume they have access to, or would use a bicycle. 2/3 I've maybe worded it a bit in haste, my point was that when I'm on that road (and others with cycle lanes) which is generally twice a day, around rush hour/commuting time, I very very rarely see people on them. I also don't just mean London road, I'm also talking about Hamilton Rd between Glasgow Zoo roundabout and Mount Vernon station, this has had printed cycle lanes for probably over a decade, then they installed a physical lane - this is practically a straight road, so I don't see any real reason to use the road, as there is no right turns heading east. then they also installed the rubber bollards on the west bound side, then less than a year later remove them to install a physically divide - this was mostly regarding my point about planning/spending. I think if a road cyclist is using road space, when there is a useable cycle lane available then there is clearly something wrong with the system, as I mentioned in my OP, we are trying to cut emissions, this doesn't have to be done just by reducing car usage, but can also be reduced by having freer flowing traffic, a bike on a road holding up traffic goes against this. Obviously my perspective is only from what I see, I can't comment on the Clydeway etc. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 2nd Apr 2021 5:06pm)
  • Yeh I get that, and I’m behind the cycle lanes in principle (people are replying to me as if I’m against cyclists/lanes) My problem is with replacing an existing cycle lane, which in my and many other opinions is underused as is, with a new system/layout, then less that a year later replacing and rearranging the complete road layout with yet another cycle lane set up. It’s a complete waste of money and resources...imo of course :) by Thunder_Munkey (Mon 5th Apr 2021 5:40pm)
  • The East end gets a worse name than it actually deserves in my eyes. I’ve grew up in the east end (Carntyne) and now live in Baillieston. Every area will have little parts that are bit rougher and more run down than others, but they are usually easily to tell apart. I often hung about Tollcross in my school days and never felt any more scared or concerned than anywhere else. I would just avoid the areas that are visibly a bit rough. One suggestion though, I don’t know your traveling to and from work plans. But Tollcross doesn’t have a train station, incase that’s how you were planning to travel to Edinburgh etc. Carntyne station could be close depending where the house is. And Somewhere like Garrowhill/Baillieston/Swindon is much closer to all motorway routes and several train stations nearby for Central and Queen st. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 7th Apr 2021 10:03am)
  • I think you’ll be fine there. But I think (don’t quote me) there was talks about that small Greenland area being flattened and industrial units built there. Not sure how you could confirm that, but my mate has a unit nearby and he had considered moving there as they’d be bigger from what he was told. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 7th Apr 2021 11:10am)
  • Exactly, Fuckin idiots. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 7th Apr 2021 3:51pm)
  • Tried Meditation ? My Mrs used to struggle a lot with the same, downloaded a free guided med app and is doing much better. Maybe worth 5/10 mins before bed to shut your mind down. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 15th Apr 2021 8:45am)
  • Never heard of a sugar shop before...what’s that ? Desserts etc ? by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 25th Apr 2021 11:10am)
  • Reported around the east end recently as well. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 28th Apr 2021 6:21pm)
  • My mate was warned in Sandhills/Shettleston and one of the people in our estate told us there’s a few wee places common with dog walkers in Baillieston too. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 28th Apr 2021 8:42pm)
  • £650-725 seems a little expensive for a one bedroom for the locations your looking to visit. I have a 3 bedroom semi in a relatively nice bit in the east end and these are generally rented for around £850-950. My mate rents his 3 bedroom flat in the east end for £600. If I were you I’d look at places like Baillieston, Sandyhills, shettleston, Tollcross. There are some rough bits but generally ok and all are close to bus and train links which are less than 20 mins to Glasgow city Center, probably around 40/50 mins on train to Edinburgh and not that far from Bishopbriggs either. Obviously that’s all dependent on your preferences on location v costs by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 5th May 2021 9:48pm)
  • Yeh been a few times with him. I probably should have mentioned, I’m not looking specifically for places in east end, just meant that I live here and probably been to most places that are ‘common knowledge’ by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 6th May 2021 4:55pm)
  • That’s fantastic, I’ll have a proper look at it and see what I can add. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 6th May 2021 10:05pm)

  • What are the “Cruel raids” for ? by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 13th May 2021 1:15pm)
  • I don’t understand your reply, maybe you could just answer the question by telling me what the raids are for, for someone who doesn’t know anything about them… by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 13th May 2021 1:37pm)
  • My GF just showed me a live video from Facebook, looks like a immigrant family is being evicted and crowds are there to protest it. Im possibly a Fash-ist for not knowing anything about it though. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 13th May 2021 1:44pm)
  • Whatever mate. Not everyone from Glasgow knows every single thing that’s going on in it. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 13th May 2021 2:06pm)
  • Granted but the most descriptive think you wrote was “Cruel raids” clearly I didn’t know what the raids were for, neither did a few others given replies. You stick to stupid replies though pal, that’s how we’ll all become more educated eh. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 13th May 2021 2:16pm)
  • Of course it's a minority. I wasn't there yesterday and regardless of Covid, Crowds aren't something I like being part of. But I did go to Manchester in 2008, I seen folk smashing bus stops, and one guy put a bin through a window. there was 200,000 fans there, the VAST majority were just drunken fans. I don't get what rangers can do to set an example ? If they pay for the clean up the thought process in future will be that of 'clubs will pay for the clean up, so fuck it' and other clubs will end up following suit, so it doesn't get rid of a problem at all. I think the best course of action is for the club to find out who the people are, not sure of the logistics behind finding out who, and banning anyone who was violent towards anyone, destroyed anything whether it be a bench, jumping in bushes at the cenotaph or volleying bins down the street. and not a token ban, a proper 'your banned from Ibrox for xx years' The club could have came out and gave the most threatening warning to people on why not to attend a march, and they'd still have done it. they need to act to make a point. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 16th May 2021 6:17pm)
  • I think it would be very unreasonable and un-christian like to not take the volume down a few notches if you spoke to them. When I used to go to church regularly, I noticed that they no longer rang the bells the 5 mins before service started (at 11am) I asked about it, and it was because a Nurse lived across the road and worked nightshift a lot and she asked if it was possible to lessen them, so they just stopped out of courtesy. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 27th Jun 2021 7:20pm)
  • I wouldn't say they are irrelevant, I know many people who missed the aspect of actually going to church during pandemic, it brings reassurance and hope to many. by Thunder_Munkey (Mon 28th Jun 2021 7:02pm)
  • I just don't get it... I know a fair few people who are members of Orange lodges and they seem to take more of an interest in NI politics that Scotland, it bewilders me. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 2nd Jul 2021 10:09am)
  • Done it over 5 days stopping at various different sites for overnights. Day 1 - Milngavie to Balmaha (overnight in Oak tree inn) Day 2 - Balmaha to Inverarnan (overnight in a farm B&B just north of beinglas farm site) Day 3 - Inverarnan to Bridge of Orchy (overnight in the converted train station) Day 4 - Bridge of Orchy - Kinlochleven (overnight in some huts behind a hotel can’t remember the name) Day 5 - Kinlochleven - finish. As said it’s not got many particularly difficult accents. We used a baggage transfer company that took main clothing and food etc to our overnight location so we had basics to carry on the hike. Food wise - take lots of carbs, pastas etc. When your getting boots, make sure they are broken in properly, get them waterproofed to give an extra bit of protection if your going anywhere near rainy season. Tiso at the top end of town are expensive but have a good selection and a little outdoor walkway to see how boots feel on uneven surfaces (Ive tried boots them went online for them!) Extra socks in your rucksack can be a massive morale booster. If your not planning on doing a massive amount of hiking etc over your life, I wouldn’t waste your money on high end gear. I have a highlander 55 that was a very reasonable price and it’s lasted me for over 15 years. You get varying sizes of them. Midge spray is a must, not sure what the best is these days right enough. I’d highly recommend doing day 1 from milngavie to Balmaha just as a taster first. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 6th Jul 2021 10:01pm)
  • I don't think that's very reasonable if the OP has nothing to do with the bulk being left out. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 20th Jul 2021 11:22am)
  • Aye Celinos is cracking but doesn’t have that same feel that Dinos had. You know like the vinyl table cloths and random crap on shelf’s around the room and ice cream served in little metal bowls that have been around since the 20s! So much nostalgia! by Thunder_Munkey (Mon 26th Jul 2021 9:32pm)
  • Never been to O Sole Mio so will give that a go! Cheers. University Cafe has been on my go back to list for ages and never seem to get the chance! by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 27th Jul 2021 8:59am)
  • Yeh same. I rememeber going into the bank that replaced it once, and just stood in disgust at what it became haha. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 27th Jul 2021 9:01am)
  • Yeh i've been here before, was pretty decent actually. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 27th Jul 2021 9:00am)
  • Nice one, will try here too! by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 27th Jul 2021 8:59am)
  • Great to know! will stick this on my list. cheers bud. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 27th Jul 2021 2:04pm)
  • It's a really bizarre time just now. My mate was outbid but 14k on a £120k home report house and he bid 12k over. I was also having a general chat with my mortgage adviser and he said a lot of the increases in certain areas just now are because there is so many people from London moving up to staff the new banking buildings in town, they have so much excess cash from their own sales down south they are outbidding massively. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 17th Aug 2021 8:34am)
  • We were passing the houses at the 'Athletes village' in Parkhead earlier and the state of some of them are unreal. I get that that a lot of them are council properties, and that covid has stopped a lot of stuff but so many properties with gardens overgrown to the point they look like mini Forrests and piles of junk waiting to be collected. My mum also spoke to some kids outside Tesco in shettleston the other day after seeing them en masse dumpling litter at the door area, pretty much got told to fuck off by them. Parents clearly not educating kids in manners at all. Seems a familiar site through not just Glasgow but a lot of cities, it's a real shame people don't have a bit more pride in the area they live in. by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 21st Aug 2021 4:40pm)
  • I've no seen a wee wummin do this in years haha. brilliant. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 10th Sep 2021 1:54pm)
  • I always get called the odd one out/party pooper/shitebag etc because I don't do it, never have done. Most of my friends from school have never done it either, im talking 3/4 close friends here. lots of mates partners do, mostly the females, actually. I work offshore now, and I'd say of all the lads (good number of them from Glasgow, but speaking generally more overall UK) between 20-35, it's probably around the 80% mark of people that do it on a regular basis. the amount of them that talk about being buzzing to get home to get a few G, or they have someone waiting to deliver it as soon as they are home is mental. by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 11th Sep 2021 4:21pm)
  • Are they proper ‘bespoke’ in there ? I’ve never used them myself but anytime you see a picture of someone in one of their suits they look almost identical. Not a criticism, just curious. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 16th Sep 2021 1:00pm)
  • when you say 'across Glasgow' do you mean the city centre or further out ? how wide is your search ? I don't specifically search for flats as im not in need, but often on my FB I seen flats/houses being put up for rent. This would be around the Mount Vernon/Sandyhills/Shettleston/Baillieston area. All areas with good transport links. by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 25th Sep 2021 12:19pm)
  • My Mrs has been to The Village hotel for the spa and gym and says it’s amazing. Just checked the price and it’s £15 for a single day pass. Seems a bit steep if you just want to use the pool/sauna. You’d think there would be options. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 5th Oct 2021 2:14pm)
  • When I was an apprentice I used to go down to the wee shop to pick up everyone’s rolls. At least once a week there would be a wee guy outside (dressed well, not homeless) and he’d ask for 10/20p whatever, but he’d ask lots of people. He’d then go in to the shop, mind this is like 10am, but a few cans of whatever beer is cheapest and then go into the bookies next door. So my 10/20p didn’t buy him the cans, but it certainly helped him get them. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 5th Oct 2021 2:34pm)
  • Theres also plenty of cycle lanes that are separate from roads (by that I mean an actual kerb, with bollards at regular intervals also) and have their own traffic light systems and they still don't get used. So what is the point in spending yet again more money on an infrastructure that will be vastly under used. Surely it would make more sense to educate both drivers and cyclists from a much earlier start point instead of continually increasing spending on something in the hope that suddenly people are going to wake up and go 'oh bike lanes, ill grab my helmet' Regarding point 2 you make. Congestion is reduced by freer flowing traffic, not increasing the travel time in and out of the city centre. Cars should absolutely be turned off when idle, but realistically, how many do ? no one is policing that, and it would be another colossal waste of police time to do so, unless it was an instant fine with no messing about for the police. My example of this is that if I was driving up Queen St to head home to the east end, I'd head up towards the station, take a right, and head right along towards duke street. I can't do that now, so now I have to turn left and take about an extra 3/4 of a mile drive through town then further driving to get back to the east end. In what way is that both fuel efficient and environmentally friendly ? Thinking about all the extra lights and stops due to busses etc. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 6th Oct 2021 8:27am)
  • Aren’t the ‘build your own’ ones in Asda etc freezable ? by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 6th Oct 2021 3:48pm)
  • Yeh, mostly on trails on a mountain bike right enough. But I have cycled on roads. Only twice as far into the city Center I think though. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 6th Oct 2021 4:04pm)
  • I fully understand and appreciate that. And I agree that going forward this is definitely something that needs improved. My ‘gripe’ is that it seems to be something that the council has a sole focus on in terms of transport. The roads I use regularly are a mess. I’ve genuinely replaced 9 tyres in less than 2 years. Tried claiming 3 of them and got rejected. Just gave up trying after that to be honest. Should mention that I have reported all of the areas, some more than once, using the app. And only 2 of them have been repaired. London road for example has had God knows how much spent on it over the past 10 years installing/improving cycle lanes on it and I’ve seen more people use the road than the lanes this year. (And they are well protected and brand new) So it becomes very tiresome to see the amount of money being spent on infrastructure that is either not being utilised, or won’t be for a very very long time. But the infrastructure used by people he vast majority of people left to disintegrate further then claim not enough money to fix it. Like how many bin collections have to be cut to save money versus new cycle lanes installed type argument. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 6th Oct 2021 4:18pm)
  • It also freezes the bollocks off you, and leaves you looking like a droont rat for the rest of the day. Saying that, I have ordered a Triplet so I can take the wife and kid into town for a days shopping. probably need one of those trailers for sticking the gear in right enough, Hopefully can use the bus lane, thing will be 25ft long. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 20th Oct 2021 11:05am)
  • I should state that I was being sarcastic, I don’t actually work in a place that’s cycle accessible at all. I used to work with a guy who throughly enjoyed cycling. He cycled a single speed bike something like 7 miles to work everyday, his sole reason for cycling to work was that he couldn’t afford another car, but he said it was horrifically impractical in winter and if he could have drive he would have. Cycling to work over any amount of miles in winter/cold rain/snow/howling winds is something that I just won’t accept as practical in the slightest. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 20th Oct 2021 1:48pm)

  • Aye, definitely. Yesterday in town is the first time I can remember not noticing it for some time. Smell it in my local area too, not just the city right enough. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 28th Oct 2021 10:57am)
  • I was over at Philadelphia chippy a few weeks ago, late at night. Must have seen about 8/9 bikes with no lights at all - everyone of them an Uber/Just Eat/Deliveroo. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 6:18pm)
  • This infuriates me. We have 2 dogs. 1 is golden off the lead, then other can be a bit noisy and snappy so as soon as wee see a hint of another dog they both go on leads. My mrs was out and 3 times within an hour dogs off leads went for ours. And not once did the owners make any attempt to rush to get their dog under control. Too many people have dogs (and other animals) but are too lazy to put in the effort to make them decent pets) by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 19th Nov 2021 10:42pm)
  • Pubs with a decent Scottish fry up I’d go with Drouthy’s, on Queen street. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 26th Nov 2021 2:12pm)
  • I do this, we’ll on a specific little hooked branch of a tree. but genuinely pick it up on the way back, reason being I go a loop with my dog and there is zero bins on that loop, so pop on my wee hook branch, finish the walk and get it on way back so I’m only carrying it for a wee bit and not a hour. If he does a shit at any point in the walk after this wee hook then I just need to carry it back. by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 27th Nov 2021 4:00pm)
  • Glasgow city mission is where I usually take things like this too mate. Bottom of Crimea street in town. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 12th Dec 2021 9:19pm)
  • Dunno what annoys me more…the fact that the Police have put Gaelic on there Polo’s as if a random Gaelic only speaker isn’t gonna know who they are…or a 64 old having a greet about being told not to swear 😂 by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 1st Jan 2022 9:39pm)
  • The police wouldn’t be outrageous if folk just left though. All this ‘brutality’ (which is a massive stretch) is because folk are too stupid to just go ‘aye ok it’s time to go’ and be civil about it. One guy starts then mob mentality ensues, what’s the cops meant to do when most of a pub decides to make some pointless stand. by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 1st Jan 2022 9:42pm)
  • Used to have to drive that daily for about 5/6 months and maybe because I’m not used to that road or part of town generally, I thought it was one of the worst stretches of road I’ve used in a city. When it’s dark and wet it’s just horrible, lighting it awful, visibility because of the amount of bridges/overpasses and bends is horrendous. Hope you get sorted out pal. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 13th Jan 2022 8:25pm)
  • I genuinley believe that this is due to a 'They do it so so will I' type attitude. it's very rare I see all (if any) cyclists stay in that box at a red light, with a lot choosing to go when they feel it's clear. Same with popping onto the pavement at a red light to cross with the pedestrians etc. There's no mutual respect and I doubt there ever will be. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 16th Jan 2022 12:05pm)
  • I think the very origins of this thread suggests it's not.... by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 16th Jan 2022 12:55pm)
  • sorry but flying through a red, crawling through a red or cruising through a red are all still going through a red. Each is as dangerous as the other IMO. it maybe works in other countries because culture towards cycling is completely different. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 16th Jan 2022 1:04pm)
  • Don't know the difference between what ? slow and fast ? I've rode plenty of times on the roads, and have adhered to the highway code to the best of my knowledge. certainly not edging forward through red lights. Fact is, cyclists need to adhere to the same rules as cars in this instance, The speed they go through a red light is irrelevant, they are not supposed to. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 16th Jan 2022 1:16pm)
  • Pretty sure my bike has the originally fitted standard pedals that come with the little orange reflectors, so yes. What would keep me happy is if cyclists stopped crying about how they are treated in regards to the lack of respect they are paid by drivers but continue to ride as if they can make up the rules as they go along. SO in this case, no, I'd be happy if you just waited at the red light as you are meant to (same way a car has to, and can't just 'go' because he feels is ok or safe to do so) :) by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 16th Jan 2022 1:23pm)
  • My bike is a pretty entry level off the shelf mountain bike. Just went to check and does indeed have orange reflectors in both edges of the pedals (as well as white wheel reflectors) So I’m not picking and choosing any rules. You do you mate, but your a perfect example of why cyclists don’t get respect. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 16th Jan 2022 1:52pm)
  • Some of it is not law, correct. But anything with the wording MUST or MUST NOT is supported by a law, so section 69 (relating to traffic signals and signs) And just FYI 60 - reflectors (at night) and 64 - riding on pavements, also supported by law. With the amount seemingly not following these it’s no wonder they aren’t enforced, police would be forever giving fines to cyclists. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 16th Jan 2022 2:03pm)
  • I’m not arguing about whether it’s enforced or what’s doable with whatever pedals you have fitted. It’s in black and white mate. I couldn’t give a toss who you’ve worked for. I’m stating facts. I’m away to enjoy the rest of my Sunday. Peace ✌🏻 by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 16th Jan 2022 2:12pm)
  • Why are you going through my previous posts, get a life ffs 🤦🏼‍♂️ What are you talking about ? I used to go to the gym 4/5 times a week. And have various gym stuff at my house and use the gym at work on almost a daily basis. What on earth does that have to do with anything we are discussing here. Had to reply to that as it’s bewildering but I really I am done now. Your a lost cause. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 16th Jan 2022 2:26pm)

  • In my mid 20s I had a bit of a breakdown, Doctor got me a councillor that I met with every week for about 12 weeks, took probably 6ish weeks from me seeing him till my first appt. this was about 12 years ago. My Mrs suffered really bad PND and she was able to get help extremely quickly from the maternity hospital psychologist who was a massive help. Everyone I know that's been seeking help in the past 3-5 years has been told nothing but 'waiting lists, waiting lists, waiting lists' by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 26th Jan 2022 6:09pm)
  • Can you just go to the island (or any Loch Lomond island for that matter) even if it’s privately owned? What’s the rules these days ? Reason I ask, I paddled boarded to Inchcruin, only as it was closest to me and I needed to sort my board out. And the owner came out to chat, he seemed nice enough but constantly mentioned it was his family’s island etc. not in an arrogant way, more like to remind me that it was owned by someone and not the trust etc. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 13th Feb 2022 10:44am)

We missed out on one a few weeks back, was 5th out of 13 offers and went 35k over valuation, I asked what the sale price was and the solicitor told me they don't disclose, but it will become public some weeks later. prices just now are insane and show no signs of slowing, at least where i'm looking. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 11th Mar 2022 7:45pm)

  • Tend to agree here. Butchers near me is highly regarded, but quite inconsisitent, especially with fillet. I bought a full fillet joint from Costco and butchered it up into steaks myself, they had an offer on for £10 off so I got about £10 2" steaks for about £50 (Iirc) by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 1st Apr 2022 4:54pm)

  • probably something injector or injector relay related, done a fair few on this year but it’s too much of a gamble to just change them without some proper diagnostics. As everyone else has said go back to your sales garage and get them to book into a Nissan dealer. If you need it before the garage can look into it properly don’t take the risk of getting the fault cleared, it will come back on and you’ll be screwed if miles away and sure as the sky is blue, they wont cover a recovery truck cost . by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 3rd Jun 2022 1:46pm)
  • I consider myself as a generous tipper. usually around the 20% mark, then one day i was in Stack in Still in the town and the service was shocking, took ages to take the order, the food wasn't that great, brought my sons a full 5 minutes after ours, never came back to check if they were OK or if drinks etc needed. Bill came to something like £25/30 and i have a £5 note in my wallet, paid the bill on card and just refused to tip that much, so now i actually think about whether or not, and how much i want to pay for the service. Probably spent hundreds on tips that weren't worth of it over the years out of some unfounded guilt. by Thunder_Munkey (Mon 27th Jun 2022 7:46am)
  • No way?! even more annoyed now lol. Been twice, crap both times but the wee one wanted pancakes and it was closest! Tbh, that's also something i've been checking more regularly. Not sure how this has been allowed to become a 'thing' If its a charge required for normal business running it should just be incorporated into the charge of items as a percentage. by Thunder_Munkey (Mon 27th Jun 2022 10:12am)
  • I bid 46k over a asking price of 255k. I was 5th highest bid out of 13. House was dated and needed a fair bit of decorating and tidying up. House was in Muirhead if that info helps at all. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 28th Jun 2022 8:20am)

  • For years when I was younger I'd have to chop and change my medication to differ it from the previous year. Only thing that worked during that period consistently was 'Avymys' its a nasal spray. 1 squirt per day per nostril. Flexfenadine as other have said is also really great. oh and I have an eye spray just to freshen them up too if its a really scratchy day. by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 23rd Jul 2022 7:24am)

  • Yep. I am 1 of 5, possibly 6 of my friends, that saved and bought my house completely without financial help. of that group of friends, when they wanted a house they either got given a fair wee chunk of cash their parents had saved for them, or they were handed back 10 years of dig money to assist. Some had the cheek to ask me why I hadn't bought a house yet! by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 1:52pm)
  • What I don't get (and am in no way clued up on how the money works) is that if its almost finished, why not just finish it then release it anyway, I mean surely recouping 10% of the money is better that nothing ? by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 2:06pm)
  • I'm scunnered with the way most of these riders behave. exactly like you said, wrong way down streets, on pavements, not paying attention. really surprised there aren't more accidents. I'm a big believer in road bikes (pedal or electric) having some form of basic identification mark on them for things like this. If the city can spend millions developing the cycle network and promoting the use of bikes (which I'm all for on the surface of it) then they can start being legally held to ride to the standards set out in the Highway Code. no use in cyclist complaining that cars are the pricks, when there is probably a similar percentage of cyclists not riding the way they should either. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 3rd Aug 2022 2:19pm)
  • My self and my mates first 'job' was down the Barras when I was 13/14 holding copies of games for the guys so they didn't get done from the cops as easy. Absolutely loved it. by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 13th Aug 2022 8:36pm)
  • Get a bike. Seems to be an answer to a lot of transport issues on here. /s by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 13th Aug 2022 9:57pm)
  • There was a few guys that held sheets with games/music/dvds that were for sale. not too far away they had a place that done the copying/storing. Then there was a few guys like myself that used to just keep a bundle of them (bearing in mind these were in plastic sleeves so not a thick pile of a few, we held dozens) So we'd hang around with them, or very close by and when needed they'd give us a shout to come over and get what they wanted, generally we'd keep the most popular ones, then a runner would come round every so often to resupply. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 14th Aug 2022 9:32am)
  • How easy is the access to this ? I've fancied going for ages and my mrs loves all this stuff too, but she's not keen on climbing walls or fences to get in lol. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 16th Aug 2022 11:05am)

  • Interested to see where comes out on top. I was recently in Middleberg, Netherlands. Popped passed a garden Center and they were doing the biggest soft serve cones I have ever seen, near the size of a grapefruit. For €1 (yes, one) So my standards are sky high now! by Thunder_Munkey (Mon 29th Aug 2022 8:36pm)
  • I don’t know if it’s getting worse or I’m just noticing more but the amount of taxi’s regularly jumping red lights is phenomenal. It’s almost as if they have an unwritten agreement with the cops to just get away with it. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 1st Sep 2022 1:53am)
  • I was in the motor trade (after sales) for 12 years so maybe just because I’m exposed to it, but I think it’s by far the worst industry I’ve dealt with in terms of customer service. They don’t seem to be trained in the basics of it all. My wife worked for AC years ago and got 100% in Her mystery shopper call (I believe she was the first to do so) and when the customer service trainer came in weeks later as routine she got pulled up for being ‘too friendly’ she prided herself on doing what she promised customers, and they appreciated it so bought her gifts like chocolate etc, apparently this was a No go. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 15th Sep 2022 4:11pm)

  • If you found out X amount of resources went on tracking down and fining or whatever might be the end result people that did this instead of actual problems or things that could improve the place wouldn’t you be a bit annoyed? Not the end of the world really, is it. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 23rd Sep 2022 9:53pm)
  • Exactly 1.3% and not a square baw hair more. \s A bench and some flowers isn’t exactly doing anything is it ? Go to a park that’s surrounded by houses and have a look at the percentage of those areas being used. It’s not as if the person is gradually staging a park takeover. Nor is it going to encourage the rest of the area to start commandeering sections of the park, is it ? by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 23rd Sep 2022 9:56pm)
  • A bollard is actively preventing someone using that area, there’s nothing to say that’s what this person is doing, just an assumption from OP. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 23rd Sep 2022 11:03pm)
  • It’s absolutely nothing like fly tipping, to compare those is laughable. God forbid someone wants to improve an area and take pride in where they live. Bigger things to worry about in the city way before a few square meters of most likely unused park space. Each to their own I guess. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 23rd Sep 2022 11:05pm)
  • The only real way of getting it done is for everyone with a Tory MP to bombard them with emails requesting they resign and want a general election, but about 70MPs would need to resign. My mate booked 2 to bring his family into town for his wedding, 1 didn’t turn up and the other said they had 1 minute to get in or he was going cos he was losing out on school run fayres. Zero accountability for them. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 27th Oct 2022 6:32pm)

They are an absolute disgrace but the problem isn’t just not getting repaired, it’s getting repaired badly. Costs would be much less if they used some common sense and proper training to repair properly. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 2nd Nov 2022 4:02pm)

  • Absolutely look into a goodwill claim. I worked at a Nissan dealership for many years, and if we had a car with service history and that age/mileage, we’d try our best to get as much of it under warranty as possible. Ultimately that’s down to the manufacturer but in most cases they contribute something. Also do a bit of research into the issue your experiencing being a reoccurring fault with that engine, may strengthen your case if it’s relatively common. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 25th Nov 2022 12:10am)

Last year we left a crate of beer for him in the bin that he leaves our parcels in, was clearly marked for him and the Postman decided to steal it (caught on camera) he came back with it the next day rather sheepishly after we phoned to complain. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 25th Nov 2022 10:04am)

I live very close to the Taxi garage in the east end and had loads of drivers make remarks about how much of a prick the owner is cos he holds licenses and asks like 20+k for them. • I live just along the road, and notice the smell too. What I will say is that people make out it’s worse than it actually is, it’s not daily, it can get worse in summer. But this past few years it’s been ok. The old quarry site, literally next to it, has been turned into a nature walk thing and I occasionally take my dog and there hasn’t been any smell. I think it’s when the open up a new pit and start to fill it you get it for a little bit. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 15th Dec 2022 8:49am)
  • From what I’ve read, which is admittedly not a lot, universal basic income. And free child care from birth. I understand the argument against it for people arguing that parents will get to sit about doing fuck all claiming they can’t work etc, but we want a good future for our children, they shouldn’t suffer because their parents are cunts. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 15th Dec 2022 3:03pm)

  • Too risky how ? generally watch battery replacement is very simple. If your worried because of the condition of the watch causing some issues, then I'd be careful with putting it into some cheap place that may change the battery and cause the watch to break. not likely they'll replace it. by Thunder_Munkey (Fri 16th Dec 2022 10:49pm)

And when I enquired into renting out my house - a 3 bed semi with garage, very close to central and queen street lines as well as motorway access in all directions, in a decent enough area in the east end I was told to expect anywhere between £850 and £1150. So yeh, the prices you’ve quoted seem quite expensive. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 18th Dec 2022 6:45pm)

  • Had Three for years without any issues, moved to an area in East end and it was shocking. but they made improvements recently. I did just move to ID mobile though. Three were getting rid of there free roaming and wouldn't budge on price. They use the Three network, I have unlimited calls/texts. and 100gb of Data (rolls over each month too) and EU roaming, which is actually decent terms, and I travel a fair bit for work so I need it. • I’ll be honest and prepare for the downvotes. Personally, without knowing about funding allocations etc, I find it annoying to Constantly hear about trying to reduce emissions by adding / improving the cycling network. What I see is roads being chopped to add a cycle lane in which in turn actually increases congestion, and emissions. Emissions are reduced by reducing combustible engines. That’s fact. But in the world we live in right now, that’s not happening anytime soon, so having freer flowing traffic makes more sense to reduce emissions to a point. Also seeing the complete state of the roads and money being spent on temporary repairs again and again but cycle lanes being planned and added constantly for an extremely small minority of the population, with no real evidence to suggest that there’s going to be a sudden uptake in cycling if we had an incredible network. It’s a culture change needed, not just lanes. Also, and this is just from my experience, I’m not saying it’s city wide. The amount of cyclists that seem to have total disregard to the Highway Code is phenomenal. Go stand near a popular Uber eats type place on a Friday or Saturday and witness the madness. I’ve nearly hit a couple either going down 1 way streets wrongly and swinging out from between cars or cyclists on dark winters nights having dark clothes and no lights on the bikes. It’s madness. Yet if I nearly hit them, I’m in the wrong and they’re innocent in every way imaginable. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 31st Jan 2023 9:34pm)
  • I’m in a congregational Church (protestant) so it might be different to COS etc. you don’t join, as such, you just go. Generally sit anywhere. Then if a time comes where you want to be a member of the church you can speak to the minister about it. The only difference between a member and non member is a non member can’t have a vote in any constitutional issue (which is rare anyway) Free to come, no obligation to give any money whatsoever. No confession. No taken aside by the minister if he notices you etc. mines a very easy going church. It’s pretty chilled. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 1st Feb 2023 8:20am)
  • I should have went into a bit more detail with my original post. My example was based on 2 areas very local to me. 1 of which was a dual lane main road that connected much of the east end to the motorway. this very rarely had more than 3/4 cars at the traffic lights due to the junction set up on it. This junction is now completely different due to the installation of a bike lane. This has also reduced dual lanes to 1 single lane each way. This now, at Rush hour sees easily 25 + cars sitting at the traffic lights. (idling obviously, as no one actually turns the cars off) This isn't to mention the traffic increase at the other lights at that junction. So that's a 5/6 fold increase in idling cars at that one road point alone. So in this example, and the other junction that is fairly similar but less traffic, it does increase emissions. Also worth mentioning that the actual cycle lanes here are in a terrible state (only installed a few years ago) and very very rarely used. I drive / walk the dog this road often and I'm lucky to see more than 1 cyclist a day on it. Also thanks for the information and links. I can only give a opinion based on my experience and knowledge, so the more the better. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 1st Feb 2023 11:17am)
  • Some people just need to or even want to drive, I just do not belive its as simple as 'add bike lanes, car numbers will dramatically fall' Unfair comparison, travel before train was Horse and cart. Going from a car to a bike isn't a comfortable downgrade for most. Its a reply to the OP. A question was asked, this was part of my answer. Again, comparing a road network that is absolutely needed to a cycle one, which is desired, but not absolutely needed isn't the same. And my comment is also in no way suggesting that we don't improve the cycle network. respectfully, I have answered some other replies in more detail. just don't have time to copy and paste it all. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 1st Feb 2023 11:28am)
  • I agree with your first point. Sadly I think that is due to a negative attitude shift we have in this country where things are 'not my fault' or 'not my job' I won't sit here and say I'm blameless, as I use a car regularly. But I do try to walk locally to shops when possible. If I want to take another mode of transport, cycling excluded. I need to walk 15 mins to the train into Queen street, or maybe 7 for a bus to somewhere in town, never used it to know where it goes. In rain or other crappy weather, its not very appealing when I can just jump in my car and be in town in the same time as it would take me to walk to the train station. regarding cycle networks in other countries, I get what your saying but 2 countries that are always mentioned are Netherlands and Denmark. 2 countries that are significantly flatter than Glasgow/UK. Also have much lower rain levels than ours, and also countries who are generally more chilled than us. culturally speaking, not in as much of a rush as us brits always seem to be. I genuinely don't believe that if we increased the cycle network to say, accommodate for 100,000 cyclists per day (apologies, I have no idea how these things are measured) I can't see anywhere near that amount of people using them, as ultimately it does suit with our lifestyle. that's what I meant by culture change, not just networks. I think we have to learn to be more relaxed about getting around and so on. I worked with a guy who cycled to work 99% of the time, he lived either 7 or 12 miles away, can't remember. We didn't have a shower at work, and he would be either sweating or soaking. I really don't think that's an appealing way to commute for most people. Thanks also for that link! by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 1st Feb 2023 11:28am)

  • Disgusting to do what exactly ? What chaos ? None of this happened. Lol Call out a fabricated scenario ? Call out someone potentially putting his child at risk or see unsavoury things ? (If he lives in the area and has seen ‘things’ before then he’ll know what that area is possibly like) If you want to go for a walk with your kid that’s fine, just walk around it, don’t make a point of going through it then complain about it. World isn’t perfect, you adapt. by Thunder_Munkey (Mon 27th Feb 2023 2:42pm)
  • What's your point here ? That the world should be in complete harmony and never have to change what you think you should have to do to live a happy life ? It would ideal if it was, but it isn't. I grew up with gang fighting 20 yards from my house every weekend for years, people tried to make a difference and stop it, nothing did till the folk grew out of it. It didn't change the fact as a young kid I'd shit myself to go to my pal round the corner. Back to my original point, if you know someone is 'bad' and you think you'd be intimidated, why go towards it ? doesn't make any sense. I've walked through Parkhead on game days, with my toddler (my church is in Parkhead, next to a rough pub) and had drunken guys outside it, never had any of them say anything to me or my kid. by Thunder_Munkey (Mon 27th Feb 2023 4:01pm)

  • Is there a rule that taxis can’t use the normal drop off bit ? Regularly get taxis to the airport and often, it’s electric. But they always use the 1hr car park. Strange if they could use the drop off for free. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 26th Mar 2023 6:49pm)
  • I’m probably going to get downvoted for this, but I never understand why Blue badge holders get free stuff like this. They are using the same service/product. If you’re being pedantic, it’s actually discriminatory against everyone else. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 28th Mar 2023 7:38pm)
  • Drop off at the Europcar just opposite. The more people start using other areas to drop off the quicker thr airport will notice and hopefully reduce it again, if people just moan and continue to use it the airport will continue to increase prices. It’s absolutely disgusting. There’s a markup from the minute you walk in the airport door already. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 28th Mar 2023 7:40pm)
  • I chose to say Blue badge holders because it’s a scheme that’s widely abused. And I say this not as a judgmental person, I say this from experience. 1 example being a friends partner who used their mums blue badge daily to park for free almost right outside her work in town. Maybe exposure to this sort of thing is dependant on your environment, in mines, it’s certainly prominent. In this case, I don’t think the financial disadvantage card works. If you can afford to go on holiday (or travel for work, which in a lot of cases, expenses would be covered anyway) then you surely can afford to pay a fee like everyone else. Regardless of where the actual drop off point is, the charge should still be applied in my opinion. For clarification, I am talking about the airport drop off only in this case. Granted, it isn’t a protected characteristic, but you’re dealing with semantics. If someone is disabled, whether it be long term or short term, but has no blue badge, then they still have to pay the fee. In the same way that people who are of lower income for whatever reason still have to pay the same price for fuel as everyone else. The world isn’t a level playing field, and unfortunately that’s just life. And I really don’t see the relativity of the international women’s day comment, I can’t see how that is in any way connected. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 29th Mar 2023 7:59pm)

  • I done my big bike license with Harley’s and I wouldn’t recommend them. Bikes were old. Comms often broke down during lessons resulting to having to return to base to change them, meaning you lost a decent bit of lesson time and they were reluctant to give that time back. I remember one time I was continuing straight for a while as I heard no instruction and the trainer rode ahead and guided us to pull over and had a bit of a go at me because I wasn’t listening 😂 comms were obviously broke, and that was within 10 mins of leaving. Twice we went to the test Center to use the Mod 1 area to practice (my main reason for choosing Harley’s as not many companies had access) both times closed and ended up in a car park in Hillington using bricks and old cones to practice. Twice During lessons near my test did the 500 start misfiring (once not my bike but the guy was struggling to ride it so they asked me to try nurse it back) again lost time that they were extremely reluctant to give back. On my actual test I passed and the instructor said they had to rush back to base and I’d have to either ‘keep up’ or find my own way back. Dunno what would have happened if I’d had failed. All in all, Bikerite who I done my CBT with seemed like a Far better company. That was about 12 ago so they may have improved though. by Thunder_Munkey (Wed 2nd Aug 2023 1:44am)

  • I was in town on Saturday. Not sure which race was on. I couldn’t care less about cycling but I happened to be at George square when a load of them were going past and I momentarily got caught up in the hype (banging on the railings cheering etc) Only thing I’d say about the crossings is that it seems to be typical event planning. ‘Stand here and do this’ and leave no option for common sense to the operators. 4 stewards at each crossing, I was a tad lost at a bit on Buchanan street, asked one where to go, they were zero help. Also nearly got the pram whacked by a fence on 2 occasions when both failed to have a quick look around before closing it for the bikes to go past. by Thunder_Munkey (Mon 7th Aug 2023 5:35pm)
  • If there was a fire you’d muster on the quayside as you would on any vessel. Why would you jump on a lifeboat when you could walk down a gangway (probably several on this as it would be a semi permanent fixture) by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 8th Aug 2023 9:17am)
  • But then by that logic you could argue that people chose to come here ? by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 8th Aug 2023 9:24am)
  • Not stayed on a Bobby barge but can’t disagree with you on some offshore accommodation being better than hotels etc…I’ve stayed in Great Yarmouth many times. That is grim! by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 8th Aug 2023 9:24am)
  • It does look grim. But it’s what many people live on for months at a time for work. If it was that bad, these people wouldn’t do it. And it’s arguable better than the conditions that they have flees their own country. I think part of the problem is the expectation that because someone has arrived in a better country they should automatically have the lifestyle and conditions of those who already live there. That simply isn’t practical, or fair on those born and bred like the homeless etc. There needs to be some sort of ‘buffer zone’ until things are processed properly. I’m not say this barge accommodation is the solution btw. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 8th Aug 2023 9:22am)
  • The same house that don’t exist for the homeless ? For the families that can’t afford to buy ? Where are these houses ? by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 8th Aug 2023 9:25am)
  • People seem to be ignorant to the fact that there is relegations that have to met by varying bodies. It’s easy to jump on the ‘they’ve just doubled capacity’ bandwagon without thinking that someone somewhere has obviously said it’s safe to do so from many points of view. We recently applied to the DNV to get a small infrared sauna installed with our vessel welfare funds. They said no. Absolutely no one can figure out why, but there is obviously strict rules to be followed. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 8th Aug 2023 9:30am)
  • I’m not going to argue with you because I agree with pretty much everything your saying. But on the issue of lifeboats, they aren’t needed. You’d have to expect there would be drills to be compliant with a vessel/barge. And these will include where to go and how to get there. It’s not difficult. They can empty an 800 odd seater A380 in 90s (don’t quote me on that!) so getting people safely on quayside will be fine. Every vessel I’ve been on has automatically closing fire doors - held open by electro magnets that disarm when alarm goes. I’d expect this to be the same on the barge where maritime rules dictate. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 8th Aug 2023 12:43pm)
  • I should have maybe phrased my question better. Where are these, available, houses ? I totally agree that there shouldn’t be X amount of homes sitting empty but until law changes that’s how it is and we have to work around that best we can. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 8th Aug 2023 12:45pm)
  • But that’s my point. They aren’t available or they would be used. By the very fact that they are empty and not available to rent surely by definition means they are unavailable ? This situation is irrelevant to the refugee one. They should y be allowed to be sitting empty when the country in general needs house. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 8th Aug 2023 1:26pm)
  • Have you any experience of working / mustering on a ship ? Or are you just ignorant to the practices on board these things and feel the need to be a bit of a twat to strangers online ? Do you think there is a maze of corridors that lead to a single exit on either side ? What do you think the chances are that every single walkway to an exit is blocked ? Also worth mentioning that materials used to build these things are of higher fire resistance than a wooden door. Walls are metal, doors are metal, etc. I’ve worked on ships for the past 10 years and standard practice is if you’re along side, you muster alongside as it’s generally the safest. And that’s when we only have 1 gangway. These things will have 3/4/5 depending on size. So chances of getting trapped are extremely slim. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 8th Aug 2023 2:46pm)
  • You don’t get training in how to walk in an orderly fashion mate. It’s literally walking down a set of stairs. What are you basing that on ? An A380 can empty about 900 passengers in 78seconds. And I believe that was in the dark using volunteers that were trained either. I don’t believe this is the correct solution either fwiw. But if the appropriate maritime authorities have signed off on it then you have to assume that it’s ok. by Thunder_Munkey (Tue 8th Aug 2023 3:04pm)

  • Sounds like the classic ‘fault code = faulty part’ repair method. This boils my blood as a former diagnostic tech. If you are paying for a repair, in this case, the EGR replacement to rectify the fault, if that repair does t fix it. There should be no charge to the customer. It’s as simple as that. Too many garages have been getting away with this ‘try and test’ method for years. Customers must be losing a fortune. by Thunder_Munkey (Thu 31st Aug 2023 12:28pm)

  • These things are a perfect example of why we should have some sort of civil offence police force. Very simple system of fines £50/100/250 whatever. No appeals process, no paperwork just catch, get ID, fine. Done. All wear body cams so there’s proof of the offence. Don’t even need to spend any money on investigating or chasing folks down, would be easy enough to catch these cyclists, people who park illegally/dodgy as fuck/on zigzags. Eventually would bring the problem numbers way down. Bit extreme but I’m sick of these cunts. by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 28th Oct 2023 6:19pm)
  • Yeh I fully agree. I dropped my son off at school recently and between 8:54 and 9:06 there was 16 cars either park on zigzags or stop to drop off kids. Just bang an ANPR camera outside schools, solves that problem almost instantly. Get rid of the ambiguity of who was driving. Fine the owner. Then make it their responsibility to educate the person who was driving and so on. by Thunder_Munkey (Sat 28th Oct 2023 7:44pm)

  • When I said civil, I did not mean civilians. I mean civil offences which is what a lot of these offences come under. My view is to create almost a 2 tier police force, 1 of which spend the time only going after these types of offences. they would still have the same authority as a cop in terms of stopping, requiring ID and so on. if a situation became hostile while dealing with a stoppage of a dangerous cyclist for example, they would have the power to hold them and call for 'real' police to come and arrest for the relevant offence. not saying its perfect, but something has to be done imo. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 29th Oct 2023 9:00am)
  • I don't have all the answers mate. If ringfencing would work then I'm all for it. My thought was just that as soon as there is a requirement for police in some other area they would just be taken from 'civil' and the problem would continue to persist. having a 'separate' force would almost pay for itself, for a good while until the problems reduce a bit. So potentially not costing as much as using regular police who are more costly to train. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 29th Oct 2023 9:14am)
  • Going out to eat is different to ordering in a Maccy’s. Just googled and it says delivery is around 30% cost of order. Up that to say 50/60% to cover increase pay, are people really going to pay double previously for a big Mac meal ? Anyway this is distracting from the point that the bellends don’t ride properly or dress appropriately, pay has nothing to do with that and don’t anyone start with the ‘can’t afford lights cos the pay is so low’ shite. by Thunder_Munkey (Sun 29th Oct 2023 11:21am)
