  • Kinda. Swapped it for cash so I could get junk from the shop. Bloody stupid, considering the school meals were actually great, but I probably just wanted to be away from the place for an hour. by JoeJoJosie (Sun 5th Sep 2021 7:38pm)
  • They need to give more cops tasers and training with them. Every car should have one, or at least one of every pair on patrol. The pepper-spray shite they give them is useless against someone who's determined to stab you. I've heard people saying the tasers don't work on amped-up opponents, but that's a real outlier of a stat. 99% of clips I've seen the maniac goes down like a bitch instantly. by JoeJoJosie (Mon 6th Sep 2021 7:09pm)
  • Are they still making that? I kinda knew the boys but I've never seen it, so I'm not gonna say much. Although it was like 7/8 years ago, so if they kept at it they should have about 9 series. I'm not sure if students from the northern suburbs would really get the tasty gritty bit of glasgows amusing side. But givin how insular and nepotistic the production industry in central scotland is, they might be afraid to appear to 'know too much' about being a *proper* neddy junkie Weegie, lest it harm their cred with the Victors & Barrys in Glasgow TV circles. It's not just sucking cock that gets you a job in TV in Scotland, it's knowing who's cock to suck that's the *real* skill! by JoeJoJosie (Mon 6th Sep 2021 11:38pm)
  • What? The nepotism or the cocksucking? by JoeJoJosie (Tue 7th Sep 2021 4:58pm)
  • Don't be sorry - some people have to 'work-up' to reading longer bit of text. Just keep practicing and you'll be reading War & peace in no time! by JoeJoJosie (Tue 7th Sep 2021 4:56pm)
  • I had a quick google. It is. Like I said - never seen it. But just given how most of the actors look and their backgrounds (which *shouldn't* make a difference because, y'know, fucking *ACTORS*, but is does anyway) it might have been a good idea to go with the concept of 'The adventures of Normal 'civilised' people living in the deeps of Possilpark/Wherever'; than have them try to pass themselves off as actual scrubbers. Even the 'Skint Students' trope is hard to do convincingly if you look too well-fed and groomed, and not suitably alcoholic enough. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 7th Sep 2021 5:11pm)
  • Nah, it wasn't as sordid or organised as that. But if you think back to many of the weather-presenters/continuity announcers/daytime hosts especially on STV, you might feel that many of them are a little bit *lighter on their loafers* than the average scottish guy - even accounting for the bohemian types that are attracted to media work. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 8th Sep 2021 5:23pm)

  • Yeah, highly skilled jobs that offer shite pay and conditions. Or seasonal jobs where you share a manky flat or live in a dorm so you can send money back home to Whereverland. Due to Covid and Brexit on top of people already being pushed right up against what they're willing/able to accept by profiteering employers, they've just had enough and are staying home. If you're willing to work hard for less than it costs to pay your rent and buy food, you can find 10 jobs tomorrow! by JoeJoJosie (Sun 12th Sep 2021 12:34am)
  • I was in Johnstone at 1pm today, and there seemed to be quite a few boys out taking their bottles of Buck for a walk. They weren't drinking them and weren't looking for a fight, they just seemed to be carrying them around in the sunshine. by JoeJoJosie (Sun 12th Sep 2021 12:51am)
  • I think inflation has made it pointless. Coins today are worth so little it's not worth kids while to roll about for them, and media has made it so most kids (even younger ones) would be afraid of being called a Jakie for picking up anything less than a pound coin. So now the only people who could afford to throw a £50+ Scramble are precisely the ones who would murder their children for scrabbling on the street for coins. Or they might do it so they and their kids could stand back and watch The Poors fight over shrapnel? by JoeJoJosie (Sun 12th Sep 2021 1:00am)
  • Sweet summer child..... This has actually been a really nice year. Usually we get a couple of random weeks of nice weather then the rest of the summer is just grey and wet but not as cold as the grey and wet of january. Just you wait! by JoeJoJosie (Sun 12th Sep 2021 1:04pm)

  • Because they're pearl-clutching old Karens that think the 'virtuous' act of bagging it it the important part. But they can't bear to walk 100m with a hot jobby in hand. I fucking hate the whole idea. If it's in a public park and not on the path or a bit kids play on, let nature take the whole 2 days to make it disappear. I've seen putrid Bags O' Shite hanging from bushes for literal months, when they would have been washed away or dried up in a few days at most if just left. I don't even have a dog. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 28th Sep 2021 4:07pm)
  • Sometimes the police are well aware of these guys and would love to do something, but they can't until they receive a certain number of complaints. So if you report it on the non-emergency number, a beat-polis somewhere in town might be grateful they can finally grab these fuckers. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 2nd Oct 2021 10:59pm)
  • Sometimes they just stick a stick with a hook on it through the letterbox, since so many people leave keys and wallet on a shelf at the door. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 2nd Oct 2021 11:01pm)
  • The only other way I've heard of is an account they arrange for homeless people - but you would have to be registered as 'homeless' which you aren't and takes months anyway. So it looks like you just have to wait a couple of weeks until quarantine is over. If you know where you *will* be living, the bank might be willing to get all the paperwork set-up while you wait, so they can open the account quickly when you get proof of address.? But there are good reasons the law is like this. by JoeJoJosie (Mon 4th Oct 2021 11:28am)
  • I rarely use the bus, but I know FirstBus suck for gingies. The train is supposed to be the expensive option, but it's 2.30 for a Return to town while it's 2.70 for a fucking single on the bus. by JoeJoJosie (Mon 4th Oct 2021 11:32am)

  • I got a pile of background offers from AllTalent over the summer, but Sonia Scott does a long established professional site for trained actors. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 5th Oct 2021 2:13am)
  • Well, Sonia is just the lady who owns All Talent which I think you'd mentioned. I used to do 'Outlander' with them which was a pretty regular gig as extra work goes. There's also Mandy.com which is the site for everything that *isn't* actors or BAs. (always thought 'Mandy' was a bizarre name for a site for grips/stand-in's/PAs/Runners/etc but nobody ever said showbiz was logical!) by JoeJoJosie (Tue 5th Oct 2021 3:39pm)
  • Depends how they asked. If they seem embarrassed and hesitant to ask, then yes. If they act like you owe them it or they couldn't care less, then No. I don't care what they want it for, if it's bus to hospital or bag to tin-foil - just how they behave. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 6th Oct 2021 2:34am)

  • Oh piss off. The highest claim was £28 grand? About what most London politicians of every stripe graft on a *daily* basis? by JoeJoJosie (Sat 9th Oct 2021 3:04pm)
  • That's why I said 'of every stripe'. I didn't mean just them; every MP in westminster gets a shitload more expenses. And trying to manufacture some 'outrage' over MSPs getting average of £16,000 expenses is childish. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 9th Oct 2021 7:41pm)
  • Stopping benzos even over a short period will result in very very serious and horrible shit. Cold turkey after prolonged use will almost always end in hospital or worse. Coming of 'street' blues seems to have a much higher risk of psychotic episodes than coming off the real thing. He probably wants to assess you for a couple months 'stable' (for a given value of 'stable') before he makes a call. by JoeJoJosie (Mon 11th Oct 2021 7:45pm)

  • Opportunist housebreakers are almost always on foot, so they don't hike randomly out to the really nice places, miles from home. Bishopbriggs is surrounded by Milton, Springburn, and Balornock/Auchinarin. So if they get a pull they can say they're coming home from a friends or just out for a walk. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 20th Oct 2021 7:30am)
  • Cheers. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 21st Oct 2021 3:30am)
  • Hard to say. I didn't want to go into detail about why the heating is off as the situation is actually much more complex than just 'Get your boiler fixed.' as folk are suggesting. It involves various council depts passing the buck about who's responsibility it is, and conflicting messages about whether I am liable to p ay several hundred quid for a gas-meter I've never used! So I really don't know - but I do know the nearest gym is miles away and it's £1.70 to go 5 stops on a bastard FirstBus. So I guess I'll just keep bugging my friends or boiling kettles! by JoeJoJosie (Thu 21st Oct 2021 9:30am)
  • How many people actually live their lives according to the effect their actions will have on other people outside their immediate peers? Most people are well aware of how their actions could at very least inconvenience or possibly harm other people they'll never have to deal with, they just don't give a shit. At 14 you might be more impulsive, but the 'intent' is the same a 14 or 40. The stabby cunts I knew at 14 were still stabbing people when they were 19. A few years in the jail can stop some from following through with violence, but it doesn't stop them *wanting* to hurt people. by JoeJoJosie (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 6:19am)
  • I've tried fixing this a couple of times in the past. Tried 'shaving' or snipping it down to a level where the burnt bit was gone etc. Doesn't work. Even when you get it perfect, it stands out a mile. Best tactic was finding a bit of spare carpet luckily left from when I got it, and *very* carefully cutting a bit that matched the 'grain' for the damaged bit then getting a bit thin lino or whatever and putting a 30cm patch under the carpet stuck on with spray adhesive. Then sticking the iron-shaped patch in the hole. Then dirty it up and clean it again! It worked ok as long as it's not a high-traffic area. Otherwise, how do you feel about rugs? by JoeJoJosie (Wed 27th Oct 2021 1:32pm)

  • Walking past the Pinkstson flats at Sighthill after a night out was like a scene from Escape From New-York. Kept expecting cunts to start dropping from windows and crawling out of stanks. It's weird how you feel like you're home when you get to around Springburn College, when you're really about 3/5 of the way. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 28th Oct 2021 2:27pm)
  • I was talking to a friend on the phone while walking past the shops today and said to my mate "By the way have you got any fags you could spare?" and the 'homeless' romani guy sitting against a wall in the rain pulled out a cig and stuck it in my direction. by JoeJoJosie (Fri 29th Oct 2021 12:12am)
  • IT takes a really committed shill to copy out a venal article and post it as a text post. This OP can lick boots at 50 paces. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 30th Oct 2021 10:41am)
  • Never. A quick glance to make sure nobody sleeping when they put it in garage for the night, and that's it. Cleaners might find it during night. If a nice person doesn't hand it to driver, it'll be gone. But that particular bus is probably the one with a high chance of 'nice' people. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 30th Oct 2021 3:39pm)

  • I find it hard to feel sorry for the kind of person who would drive into town then *drive* from shop to shop, and would feel discriminated against because they had to walk for a few streets. Provided they don't fuck it up by 'not having any parking' or 'giving the parking contract to some evil corporation' it will hopefully be fine. If they don't make new and accessible parking or give the contract to some profit-hungry cunts instead of just doing it themselves, they'll deserve the riots they'll get. by JoeJoJosie (Fri 12th Nov 2021 3:00am)
  • I'm glad you had the shame to make a throwaway for spinning your yarn about embarrassing scotland by harassing random people in a restaurant. Did you enjoy your soy-burger, or were you being hypocritical as well? Cool story Bro...! by JoeJoJosie (Fri 12th Nov 2021 3:05am)

  • There's always a few 'beauticians' and gyms that I've never once seen a customer in, that appear to have much more cash than some bored rich womans vanity-project should have. • Girl posted a video a few weeks a go of her waiting for a pal at Junk-Food-Junction, and there were at least 3 older guys constantly harassing her and other girls, and pretending they didn't understand english when they were being told to fuck-off, or pretending they thought the girls were just Playing-Hard-to-Get. The fucking shitty thing was the amount of people just watching, not prepared to risk a bit of inconvenience to their own day. This was at dinnertime - imagine how these cunts behave when it's late and the lone female is a bit drunk and a lot intimidated? Sometimes I wonder about the taxi-drivers that take these bastards 'home'. Do they ever look at the 'couple' (or whatever) and say "Here Mate! What's this girls name? Where does she live?" or "Here Doll! Do you know this guy? Where's your pals - do they know where you are?" by JoeJoJosie (Tue 16th Nov 2021 6:32pm)
  • You and your girl sound like a couple of genuinely good human-beings. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 16th Nov 2021 6:41pm)
  • That happened to me just once but it made me so angry cos it was so stupid. I decided I need to cool-off so went out and had a snack and a coffee, but then they wouldn't let the new 'less drunk, more sensible but more undressed' me back in - even to get my belongings. If I had been alone or hadn't been able to get a message in, I would have paid for my decision to chill-out and sober-up, by being left to freeze without a coat or phone. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 16th Nov 2021 6:50pm)
  • Years ago I was in a place, 'Milk' or something stupid it was at the time, and (early on - our first order) I ask for vodka+coke. Barguy says it's only 20p to make it a double; so I say ok. Next time I go to bar he say's 'No, You've had too much mate.' One of those things that inexplicably makes you angry many years after the fact. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 16th Nov 2021 6:57pm)

  • Someone will buy it, spend 10/15G fixing it really nice, then rent it for £800 a month to someone who doesn't know the difference between Bishopbriggs and Auchinairn. And tbh it's only like 250m from Bishopbriggs 'proper'. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 27th Nov 2021 5:28pm)
  • I hate the entire mindset that these 'Karens' have. Sees a dog-shit in a park - 'Won't someone think of the children!!'clutches pearls. Picks up a warm jobby in a bag - 'Eewww! I'll just fling this on a tree so it can fester into a serious bio-hazard!' A fucking giant Rottweiler-poo in the middle of a path is one thing - but our natural pissing rain has been quickly disposing of shites in parks for centuries - and if your kids are ret**ded enough to eat them, that's *your* fault not the dogs or the owners. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 27th Nov 2021 5:38pm)

  • The main thing you need to know about Glasgow 'lingo' is that no character under the age of 45 will use any 'weird' words on a regular basis. Media has erased most of the use of local dialects. The only different between a person in Inverness and Illinois will be accent for the most part. If you were to use more than one or two regional words in any conversation it will sound *horribly* stereotypical - like having ALL Americans talk like 18th century cowboys, or all english people like the royal family. Umm, wait a minute.... If you actually want to know how the middle 80% of the demographic speak, you could just read the posts in this sub. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 11th Dec 2021 10:52pm)

Sometimes people who work here for a few months/year just can't be bothered taking all the non-essential stuff back home; it's just excess baggage and they already have it at home. I used to clear flats, and if it's not what you'd term 'genuinely valuable' people will just ditch it. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 8th Jan 2022 10:39am)
  • As people are saying, it very much depends on what you need from the flat/area. If you just need somewhere to live and park your car, with plenty of shops nearby for basic stuff and great access to the city? If it's just somewhere to sleep and keep your stuff, and you actually live most of your life somewhere else then you should be ok. But if you want to move to an area where you can socialise locally, or go for a walk round the block for pleasure, or feel your neighbours will look-out for you or have any kind of feeling of 'community'. Springburn, and certainly that particular part, is not for you. I was born there and now live 2 minutes away. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 11th Jan 2022 2:43pm)

  • Schoenstatt is a small 'retreat' in a beautiful location at the base of the Campsies just outside Lennoxtown. It was built by a German (I think) priest many decades ago as a place for people to go and be religious in peace for a few days. It is generally frequented by quite devoted catholics who like to take a week to go and live like a nun/monk (fasting and vows of silence included). My mum and aunts used to go. It has lovely grounds and anyone can go for a walk round them, but you can't just stroll in to the main building; need to book ahead, I think. But the point is, this is a religious retreat. Like a hostel for hard-core catholics; my mum went to mass every day for her entire life and even *she* found it a bit much!. I don't know why anyone would suggest Schoenstadt to anybody who wasn't already religiously active. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 19th Jan 2022 7:48am)
  • It is possible. But you'll never be 'successful' (meaning you'll never own dozens of flats and drive a ferarri) But if you just have one or two properties and use the rents to pay the mortgage and supplement you income, you *can* charge fair rent and treat tenants as human-beings. You have to be very careful who you rent to though, as there are plenty of scumbags out there who know how to abuse tenants-rights and will basically squat in your flat for nothing while you have to somehow pay the mortgage. (and No. No-matter how tough you think you are, you're not going to be able to eject 3 big shady russian guys and their friends from your flat.) I did odd-jobs for a landlord for years, and he eventually had to chuck it cos he was 'too nice' and scumbags just took the cunt till he couldn't take the losses anymore. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 19th Jan 2022 7:59am)

  • Charities tend to deal directly with the public, which means people are kind of 'Self Referring', and as such they tend to offer very superficial and often insultingly obvious 'help' like "Go for a walk" or "Have you tried talking to a friend?" You really need to get the professionals involved if you actually want someone to address your case as something more than a person 'having a bad day'. Ask a GP for a referral to someone who is a bit more qualified than a concerned stranger. But take into account that the current situation means that many of the things similar to 'Mens Shed' are on hold atm. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 27th Jan 2022 12:27pm)

These cunts start posing as your friends and buying any 'spare' pills off you. Then they want more. Then they want tick. Then they're hanging round your house at 8am on your script-day to intimidate you into getting the Xanax or whatever as soon as soon the chemist opens, cos they're rattling and *it's somehow your fault*! • We have lost the habit of eating together, and that is a terrible thing. Even if we have a dining table/area, it is only used at christmas or birthdays. The, what we now often call 'continental' style of dining, where people sit down together, is seriously rare, and has sort of been re-branded as a thing that 'posh' people do - 'dinner parties' and such. BUT! - if you invite people round to your house and have them sit together and give them food and drinks, them they will love it! They will be really grateful that they got to have a 'proper' dinner and they will always be happy and excited to come to your house, cos they'll feel the warmth and family atmosphere that was killed when everyone was convinced they had to eat whenever they happened to finish work/school and they had to eat while watching TV - cos TV is more important than real people! by JoeJoJosie (Sat 29th Jan 2022 8:11pm)

  • Unfortunately, the real gangsters have got all that stuff sorted. Many serious nasty-bastards have discovered there's lots of easy and legal-ish money in selling pups, and have set-up farms with all the paperwork and vets who are 'working' for them. If you can sell pups for at least a grand a time and there's no chance of getting jailed (and you can either farm them or force some eejit to nurse them for you), then suddenly crack/smack looks like a mugs game. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 23rd Feb 2022 9:51pm)

I am using a relatively new account because I probably revealed too much personal info on my previous username; but suffice to say I have more first-hand experience of addiction and addicts than any *ten* drug-counsellors or well-meaning spectators. There's a good reason that most 'junkies' own families and old friends, the people you'd think would care for them the most, want nothing to do with them. Some people are more susceptible to the evils that addiction brings and for many, many, people having an addition doesn't 'cause', it just 'enhances' their natural scumbagginess. by JoeJoJosie (Sun 6th Mar 2022 8:43pm)

  • None. If there wasn't anything of 'immediately pawnable' value in it, you might find it in an alleyway on the route you travelled. But chances are it was opened, explored, then thrown in the nearest pile of trash. The thing is, even if somebody is feeling charitable, there's not really anywhere to hand something in, without walking for miles out of your way. A couple of weeks ago I found a wallet at a taxi rank, and though there was no cash in it, it had a bunch of credit/debit cards and drivers license/work ID/etc. I felt I should hand it in, but ended-up walking a mile or so out of my way just to post it into a police-station that is only manned during the day. • Fucking UC is one of the most evil things they've been able to pull-off in the last 15 years - and that's saying a lot. It's very specifically designed to *look* like a 'reasonable amount' at first glance for anybody examining it from outside for an article or TV report. But it deliberately and cynically does away with several 'background' benefits that actually made life almost liveable - replacing them with a one-time lump-sum that in no way comes close to what went before. It is without doubt a Punishment Benefit, envisaged by deluded think-tanks to 'encourage' the poors into slave wage jobs, by making the standard safety-net more of an electric-fence. Over the years lots of people have told me I should be on a higher level benefit due to my deteriorating physical condition - but there's no way in hell I'd want to bring myself to the attention of the algorithm that decides who lives on pasta with 1 warm room, and who lives on beans with 0 warm rooms! by JoeJoJosie (Tue 5th Apr 2022 8:38pm)
  • Sorry; I'm missing whatever you're aiming at here. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 6th Apr 2022 11:41pm)
  • It's very deliberately formatted to to look like it is giving people a reasonable amount to get by on, but it strips away the foundational benefits that can swallow a huge chunk of your budget before you even address things like 'food' or 'gas/electricity'. It's very cynically designed to draw attention to a 'healthy-looking' monthly amount that claimants are receiving (an nice number that PMs call throw around on 'Newsnight'), so that people reading articles or watching TV will think 'Gee, those welfare-queens are sure getting a healthy amount of my taxes!' while quietly doing-away with all the 'background' support that actually keeps the lights on and food in the fridge. As a society we are a long way from accepting that with all the automation and streamlining of every industry, there may not be jobs for everyone that needs one. And so everyone who isn't working 2 minimum-wage jobs just to pay their ever-increasing rent is labelled as a drain-on-society. But in the next 5 years or less, the jobs that can be automated out of existence will be the lower white-collar jobs. Everyone who's job is repetitive and procedural, anyone who sits at a desk and does much the smae thing every day, will find themselves navigating the wonders of the Universal Credit system. then we'll see how long it lasts. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 7th Apr 2022 12:03am)

They will seriously say 'She should have parked closer' or 'maybe she shouldn't have gone out at all?'. If you say there were no warning signs, or the signs were covered in graffiti and unreadable, or they weren't lit, then it's all on them. Don't treat it like you're speaking to a human. Everyone, from the friends who suggested applying in the first place, to the frontline staff who asked me what I wanted and gave me the application form, to the frakkin security-guard who was stationed in the office - they all told me that no matter how Real and 'worthy' my claim was - I wouldn't get it. That if I really needed their help, I'd be better just lying, and giving one of the pre-approved stories that everyone uses. I was 18 and naïve and believed that I would earn their respect and be rewarded for telling the truth. Can you guess what happened? by JoeJoJosie (Fri 6th May 2022 9:36pm)
  • It's very similar to dealing with the police/courts. The desperados who were in there on a daily basis knew exactly what to say/do to get a result, and they always walked out with some cash, just like towrags who are arrested every weekend will know how to deal with the law and often get away with unbelievable things - while folks who've never been in a police-station in their lives will talk to the police and not really understand that the phrase 'Anything you say can be used in evidence *against* you...' but not understanding that Nothing you say will be used as evidence to HELP you! That if the police can bump your charge up to something more serious simply because you've fiven some added details while trying to be helpful - they will. It looks good for their careers. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 7th May 2022 7:14pm)
  • Well, that's a rotten plan. Why didn't you plan for it to be sunny? But seriously - at this time of year they really can't say for certain it'll rain or just be 'kinda overcast'. by JoeJoJosie (Sun 8th May 2022 6:06pm)

  • Beside a rangers pub? No. It might not happen right away. It might not happen for months. But it *will* happen. And when it does you'll have to deal with the 'regulars' from then on, even if you win thee initial fight. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 17th May 2022 10:08am)
  • I know 20/20 hindsight is great, and it probably wouldn't have worked anyway, but maybe saying "Yeah, it's about 300m back that way on the left." would have given him no excuse to hang around and sent him way behind you. But yeah, 20/20 hindsight. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 18th May 2022 9:41pm)
  • You don't mention what general area your in, but if you look up your local 'community center' you can probably get somewhere for nothing (or next to). There not as easy to find as they used to be, but they still exist. If you're in the city you might have to bike out into the suburbs a bit, but not too far. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 19th May 2022 2:43am)
  • When it comes to 'people who made/make Glasgow' who are still alive and still IN Glasgow - I'm kinda stumped. There's a real shortage of Local Heroes, since at the first sign of success they all disappear south and west. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 19th May 2022 2:46am)

  • Try to get into a new/different environment if at all possible, (and assuming you don't feel so shitty you can't move). Bump up whatever your using to replace the opiates, even if it feels like it will mess-up you timeline for coming off. Try to be around 'normal' people, and perhaps go as far as telling a close friend (if you still have any) that you're struggling and shouldn't be left alone for more than 30 mins. If you've done a week you're doing great - although it won't feel like it. But the transition from physical to mental withdrawal can be tough unless you actually have something to aim for. Jumping off a sinking ship won't help you if you don't have a liferaft within swimming-distance. by JoeJoJosie (Sun 22nd May 2022 5:25pm)
  • Go to a hospital and tell them you're strung-out and want help. Good luck with that. If you make a big enough scene perhaps they'll admit you to the 'SuperDooperWeekendInTheJail' detox programme! Where you can be locked in a cell and have a bored Turnkey come round every few hours and tell you 'The doctors very busy and you'll be seen when it's your turn and opiate-withdrawal isn't dangerous so suck it up bitch'. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 24th May 2022 7:04pm)
  • I don't have a huge load of examples to give, but 'Yes' it does feel we're going backwards a bit. Maybe 5 years ago the city felt very 'progressive' (I hate that word) but it felt like we were moving forward. Putting it in a simplistic way, people were being nicer - and it gave me some hope for the future. Now it feels like we've been kicked-back culturally at *very* least a decade. I remember about 5 years ago seeing how gangs of teenagers reacted (or *didn't* react) to things like obvious-immigrants, boys/girls holding hands in public, or the obvious disapproval of people being obnoxious or throwing litter or being generally anti-social - and it feels much of the tolerance and 'goodwill' has faded away, in favour of the much more cut-throat 'Make yourself popular by putting other people down' attitude that I grew up with. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 24th May 2022 7:25pm)

Random guys in white vans that take cash-in-hand aren't your best bet for electrical work or anything that can affect the value of your property. • I was at the ATM at 2am checking my giro, and I met an adorable fox kit that was still young enough not to be afraid of humans. It was a really stereotypical 'FOX' with red coat, black sox, and white bit on tail and chin. It cam over and sniffed my hand. That's it really. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 1st Jun 2022 1:43pm)

I'd also just watched a short film called 'Good Hunting' which made it feel more special. Then just politely ask if you can use it when they don't, and you won't be taking it anywhere, you'll just carry your trash along to their bin an put it in. Loads of people never use some of their bins. And if they're a bit stroppy (for some bizarre reason) offer to mow their lawn or trim their hedge or something. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 4th Jun 2022 6:13pm)

  • It's nice, in a studenty, lot's of very steep hills, close to nightlife-but-not-on-your-doorstep kinda way. It's a small area on the edge of the commercial/pub/club part of town, that (at least when I was young) was very popular with students and not 'hipsters' but older people who like the vibe of living in the city-centre. Having said that - I've worked decorating flats for a landlord and as such have developed a deep hatred of Maggie White. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 25th Jun 2022 7:41pm)

  • Regarding 'No Comment'. My life would be very different if I had known I didn't have to answer questions and 'try to think of good answers'. But a lot of the time they rely on the fact that you've never had any dealings with the police to screw you. They will act friendly and chatty and if you are a 'normal' person who's never done this before, you will feel pressured to give some kind of answers. You might think your breaking the law or hurting your case by not answering, or you might just feel you're being 'rude'. They don't care that you're a nice person - they want convictions exactly the same way a salesman wants sales. 'No Comment' is your best friend. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 29th Jun 2022 8:46pm)
  • I think it may be to do with (and I know people will disagree on this) a different and weakened view of 'class structure' in Scotland in general and Glasgow in particular. People are far less willing to accept that somebody with more money or whatever is 'better' than them, and so people who *do* have those things expect and receive less deference than they get in, say, London. This results in people being prepared to interact with strangers on a more equal level rather than as them being Above, Below, or Competition socially. I've spoken with actual Lords and Ladies and plenty of homeless junkies, and people are willing to interact (for limited casual exchanges) without the barriers of class or pretence to a social position they aspire to. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 9th Jul 2022 9:04pm)
  • That was my first thought. I suspect Fred Perry Prick might even be down as his 'carer' so he can claim a bunch of cash for having a sidekick to abuse. This need to find it's way to the cops and the social, either directly or via 'social media'. by JoeJoJosie (Sun 10th Jul 2022 5:17pm)

  • If you want the very best education you need to be paying attention to one thing - which schools have their pupils wearing full uniform until 6th year. That's basically it. If it costs and you can afford it - pay it. From what I've seem most of these tend to be catholic, but it's not the religious-studies classes that matter - it's everything else. by JoeJoJosie (Sun 10th Jul 2022 5:47pm)
  • I'm just giving examples based on previous experience. He might be a sibling or step-sibling, or he might just be a horrible cunt that can't get any pals and hangs around with the disabled boy so he can feel good about himself - either way Fred Perry Wanker is a piece of shit that needs that stick rammed through his eye. by JoeJoJosie (Sun 10th Jul 2022 5:52pm)
  • In the worse case I know the guy refused to let his handicapped brother go into care so he could continue claiming PIP and get loads of valium and amatriptalyne from his GP. He also used his brother as a stalking-horse for petty crimes and leverage to stay out of jail 'because he was a carer'. by JoeJoJosie (Sun 10th Jul 2022 7:44pm)

  • I'd actually like to see some (not self-selected) figures on this. I'd be interested to see how many LGBT people (particularly younger folks) are personally interested in it, or how many are happy that it has become a 'figurehead' for the community. (I say 'community' in the loosest possible terms, as not everyone is, or wants to be, part of a community based on their gender/sexual orientation) I kinda feel that drag is from a different time; a time that has passed. • Dunno about the Canadians, but I can imagine why the Americans would. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 19th Jul 2022 4:28pm)
  • Y'know - something as simple as a 'No Music - Headphones Only' rule on public transport could probably get you elected to parliament. I was up Loch Lomond at the weekend and it was mad busy at Rowerdennan, with folks parking so close you could barly open your door. But 95% of the people staying overnight were totally fine - unfortunately it only takes one wanker (although it's usually 1 group of wankers) to ruin the whole night for everyone else. I realise that if you've spent 20 years selling drugs you need somewhere to play with your jetskis and boats, but after sunset the shitty techno and coke-fuelled shouting contests are just broadcasting your cuntishness to the whole loch. If I had a drone, I'd take it up to 500ft and drop re-bar darts on their cabin-cruisers. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 19th Jul 2022 5:32pm)
  • No matter what you do, you will never fear for your safety if you happen to deal with the police. Even if you are clearly guilty and are being belligerent yourself. Some of the more 'colourful' characters you might bump into in stores etc, may be interested in you due to your accent. This is not them trying to start some kind of grift (99%) they will mostly be genuinely interested in where you've come from and what you think of Glasgow. And people will not be offended in the least if you can't understand them at first - just ask them to use their 'Telephone Voice'. The price you see is the price you pay - always! Please don't mention how your distant ancestor was 14% 'scotch'. If you live here and intend staying here *you* are now 94.76% Scottish. Humour (yes, that's humour with 2 'u's ) is *very* dry, sarcastic, and often self-deprecating. And if somebody makes a joke about you that is obviously exaggerated or ridiculous, it is a sign of inclusion and camaraderie, not mocking - and also an invitation for you to make a similar comment about them. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 19th Jul 2022 6:03pm)

  • While I agree in principle, the art of 'not being stabbable' is a very ephemeral thing. The lone traveller will have to learn when it is advisable to look like you might stab them first and with a bigger blade, and when you are not a threat to their fragile ego and not worth harassing - and everything in between. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 21st Jul 2022 11:25pm)
  • I was going to Balmaha via Drymen and even though a bridge had collapsed or something at Croftamie, it was still as busy as I've ever seen it. It was the first time I've driven a van up there and it's terrifying how narrow the roads are after Balmaha, and how many people don't take that into account when going round blind corners or hills. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 21st Jul 2022 11:30pm)
  • They must be structurally fucked, or some big developer would have bought the whole area and made loads of trendy tenement flats. If you could take the whole lot and put some gates to cut it off from the surrounding 'community' it would make a nice estate - but only if they were solid from a structural PoV. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 27th Jul 2022 8:29pm)

  • I remember as a kid in the 80s my civil-engineer uncle getting stick from our family cos he worked on the bridge being built and then spent the rest of his career trying to repair it, even back then. And now my cousin just married a guy who is also an engineer working on keeping it standing. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 28th Jul 2022 2:55pm)
  • I've haven't been in a situation exactly like this, but there isn't much you can really do (legally) from your end by 'requesting' things to be done, if this guy isn't bothering to play by the rules. You need to start reporting these thing to the council as environmental health issues and trying to find ways to undermine this guys license to operate in general. When someone is an unashamed scumbag the only way to get to them is to threaten their ability to work with ANY properties, not just the one in question. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 28th Jul 2022 8:05pm)
  • Something to consider is that if you *don't* go to your own GP and decide to use/self-refer to on of the 'addiction agencies', you will end-up in the system in a much less personal and private/discreet way. From the tone of your post I would suggest that you try to deal with this through a GP whom you know and trust, and resist any attempt to refer you to 'specialist' agencies. These agencies, which have varying names depending on location, are geared up to deal mainly with for want of a better word 'addicts'. You will be treated like either an offender or a stupid child, simply because that's how they *have* to treat 99% of their clients. They have protocols that they follow which are designed mainly to keep problem individuals from offending and are not concerned with things like keeping a job, having a car, or maintaining the appearance of a respectable citizen. They have a couple of 'go-to' one-size-fits-all treatments that have a good chance of leaving you even more drug-dependant than you already are; but now with the added bonus that you get served at the 'methadone window' when you go to the chemist, and you're at high risk of losing your driving license! by JoeJoJosie (Sat 30th Jul 2022 7:56am)

Scotlands theatre/TV/film industry is as insulated as an undersea cable - and being able to deal with abusive bosses/colleagues and meet totally unrealistic deadlines is kinda just how it is, and will remain while there are so many people wanting to work in an industry that can realistically employ about 200 folk nationwide, while the colleges and unis are taking the money and pumping out thousands of bright-eyed hopefuls every single year. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 25th Aug 2022 3:07pm)

It is starting to get cold at this time of year so bring warm clothes or buy when you get here. Scottish people are mostly very friendly and it is a safe place to live. If you have specific questions about anything, this subreddit can actually give good answers/help for living in Glasgow, as long as your question is specific. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 25th Aug 2022 11:48pm)
  • It's slightly situational, but mostly it means Get a grip you/would you listen to yerself/look at what you just did!/get tae fuck before somebody (justifiably) smacks you. Often said when a friend or acquaintance has just done something shitty that would normally earn a sore jaw, but since they're your friend/whatever you just walk away in disgust. by JoeJoJosie (Thu 25th Aug 2022 11:54pm)

  • Go to your local retail-park and go round the rear of the stores where the deliveries are made. There's a good chance you'll find lots of cardboard boxes that are clean and dry. If you don't see any, go into a B&Q or other big store and ask an older male staff-member (not someone who works the tills or assists customers - someone who lifts the stock from the backroom) if they have any boxes or used packing materials - offer him a few quid. If you use cardboard you can use a lot less blankets. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 30th Aug 2022 6:13pm)

  • There's also the issue of what kind of meter they have. One thing is always certain - if you have a pre-pay meter you are gonna get screwed. It's just how it is. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 7th Sep 2022 4:34pm)
  • Can we encourage answers to this that don't involve going into a cafe/bar/whatever, or even well-known parks and stuff. I'd love to see just streets/neighbourhoods where people just like to 'do nothing' and just wander or sit on some steps and soak in the ambience of the area? by JoeJoJosie (Wed 7th Sep 2022 4:31pm)
  • Glas to hear you're getting by. Perhaps younger people with no kids who live in a well insulated house and don't heat rooms when you're not using them can get by easier. But despite individual preferences, the hard maths is pretty straightforward - pre-pay meters cost more than regular meters. The competitive tariffs and ability to switch suppliers are options just not realistically available to most of the households that have them fitted. 'Heat or Eat' isn't a soundbite, it's something tens of thousands of families have to decide between October and March. I'd be curious to learn what your winter consumption costs. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 7th Sep 2022 9:01pm)
  • I have a wonderful memory of basically 'blagging' our way into somebody's housewarming party in Park Circus. Beautiful apartment full of guests who were either very professional professionals, media luvvies, or trust-fund hippies. We invested in a reasonably expensive bottle of plonk and my companion convinced them she was an obscure french playwright and I pretended my acting experience was *much* more extensive than it was. Fun to see how the other half party. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 7th Sep 2022 9:13pm)

  • You can get a small drain 'snake' thing for about £20. As a sort-of-handy-person that's what I use to clear drains/toilets/etc. by JoeJoJosie (Mon 12th Sep 2022 7:15pm)
  • I commented before thinking. Showers can be tricky because of the small pipes and shallow draining angles involved. But you can be pretty certain the blockage is caused by hair. A strong acid solution is probably your best bet unless your shower-tray can be lifted without too much grief. • I don't think the 'Sanitation is....' comment is the general feeling on reddit at least. Being the enlightened, educated and civil bunch that we are (?) most of us probably feel that although keeping the streets clean is the councils remit, that doesn't excuse companies who's business-plan blatantly includes giving people piles of wrappers etc that they will/have to discard immediately outside the premises. There should probably be some addendum to leases that if your business supplies items for immediate consumption that have lots of disposable packing, then you are responsible for it within (reasonable distance). But yeah - if so many people weren't scum, this wouldn't be an issue. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 21st Sep 2022 1:55pm)
  • I honestly feel that if I ever actually used the Twitter account I opened 5 years ago, my mental health would be in real danger. It is pure-and-simple an 'Outrage Machine'. • Oh gods. I looked at the website. I don't know if it's the same company under a different name, or there's just a million of these shitstain firms around. But it looks exactly like a place I got suckered into interviewing at about 20 years ago, in an obviously rented office close to Cadogan St. there was a bunch of other suckers and a girl running the 'reception' desk who was answering calls on behalf of at *least* two different 'companies'. Then we met the boss, who was a chubby bald guy in one of those red/black chairs that looks like it's ripped out of a go-kart. He spent 20 minute telling us nothing about what the firm did, or what they wanted us to do, or where we'd do it; but did constantly point at a map and tell us that 'one day soon' we could work in their New York or Hong Kong branches! Seemed legit...... by JoeJoJosie (Sat 24th Sep 2022 2:22am)

  • IF it wasn't a private rental you could pay to have it put back to a 'standard' meter which is *always* cheaper than pre-pay. But the combination of your landlord not wanting to (anything that forces him to actually WORK won't be allowed) and the fact your supplier is being liquidated, means you are pretty fucked for the present. How good are you with balsa-wood and plastic? You can get clear PVC sheets big enough to cover tenement windows very cheaply on ebay. Make a frame with 1 inch wood and glue or staple it together. • Just cos of the wayfilming works most jobs will be sort of 8am-6/8pm and days will be random. There's a few agencies and most don't have a fee or will take it out of your first day's pay. It's sporadic to say the least, and more something to do for fun than rely on for money. But then I realised that it's nice to have a bit more 'feeling' rather than everything looking the same at all times. • Salt & Vinegar on chippies. Actual scottish people in the streets of the city, instead of relegated to surrounding demilitarised zones/estates. Not that Glasgow doesn't have estates but there's still normal scots living in the city - even the gentrified bits. And I don't know if it was just my bad luck, but the couple of times I've been in Edinburgh after 8pm in the evening (out of festival season) there was *nothing* fucking open. Nothing. • Because it's been run into the grown by a monopoly of inept and profiteering scum. Think how chaotic the layout of London is and how many different operators and types of service they have, but some how they managed to make an integrated system that the rest of the UK envies. Glasgow is mush smaller and simpler city and it is a prime candidate for the type of system used in for example Demark or the Netherlands, but there seems to be a mysterious reticence in government to do *anything* to fix this. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 1st Feb 2023 6:56pm)
  • Fortunately I can't think of an expensive wine that comes in a box. It's been too many years since I last went to a gig, but my usual tactic was just to get 'hydrated' in the hour before I went in. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 1st Feb 2023 7:05pm)
  • I think people, the gov *and* the public, need to get their heads round the idea that a Public Transport Service is just that a *Service*. It shouldn't be designed to turn a profit as a primary or even secondary goal. The benefits to the economy of a region and the lives of the people who live there are well worth having a public utility that runs at a loss. This *religion* of having services make 'good value for shareholders' is what is currently allowing price-gouging our energy prices using the war as an excuse, and it's the mindset they've been (successfully) insinuating into the NHS for the last two decades. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 1st Feb 2023 7:14pm)
  • Indeed, but there's a large difference between 'covering costs as much as is practical' and 'providing ever-increasing dividends for hungry shareholders' and juicy bonuses and golden-parachutes for executives who don't even live in Glasgow nevermind use a bus. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 1st Feb 2023 8:55pm)

  • Another crazy idea - maybe we could just study the countries/cities that have successfully done it. That have gone from a car-centric model to efficient and comfortable public transport that even rich people use. To hear some folks talk about it they sound like Americans discussing the 'impossibility' of a national health service, despite the rest of the developed nations having had one for decades. Unfortunately it requires a government that cares what happens more than 2 weeks in the future. by JoeJoJosie (Fri 3rd Feb 2023 8:34pm)

  • TBH that was actually my first thought. But then I figured that maybe we've been immersed in this bizarro culture war that I've been conditioned to see 'false positives'. And while I can imaging the TERFs getting their knickers twisted about wee boys in high-heels (that's practically DRAG!!!) I can't see them convincing a half a dozen hairy-arsed workies to risk the jail for dismembering and stealing some really fucking heavy bits of art. Also - I think they'd make some kind of dumb statement about how it was *nothing to do with them* but it show's the people of Glasgow don't want such deviant artworks in their midst. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 8th Feb 2023 6:18pm)
  • I didn't know Glasgow had 'cons' of any variety. I'm not really a huge fan of any of the regular things (unless they somehow got some cast from Babylon-5 to come to a wee thingy in Scotchland) but I always wanted to go and have a wander round one. I just didn't think Scotland/Glasgow was big enough to merit one. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 8th Feb 2023 7:05pm)
  • I hope there's not a bunch of fannies trying to give BF shit for this just because he spoke the truth. Decades of mismanagement and shady 'developments' have sucked the money out of the optimistic regeneration projects of the 80s. Glasgows' character still fights to be seen but the devastation caused by online shopping and Student-Accommodation and general nepotism has crippled the city we could have made. by JoeJoJosie (Mon 13th Feb 2023 6:07pm)
  • I am now accepting contributions to my campaign fund. We haven't ironed-out a full policy paper but my campaign motto is 'Bad For Billionaires', in the (not unreasonable) assumption that what's bad for them is good for the nation as a whole. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 15th Feb 2023 10:44pm)
  • Twist - OP *is* the crasher, and wants to hinder any investigation. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 18th Feb 2023 6:43pm)
  • Be sure to use your status as a young family and 'a person with various nervous/anxiety related issues who has major issues with confrontation and has been bullied/victimised in the past' on *every single form you fill-in*. You don not want to be recommended to live in one of Glasgows charming De-Militarised Zones. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 18th Feb 2023 11:21pm)
  • If you get a pic with the companys name clear to see and stick it on Twitter or whatever, something might happen if 'corporate' gets involved. (but try to do it anonymously if you don't enjoy being hit by bottles of piss 6 times a day by random delivery guys) by JoeJoJosie (Thu 23rd Feb 2023 3:01pm)
  • I take it you were looking kinda North? I went out to that wee park behind Arnold Clarks about an hour ago, but the moon and those frikkn new streetlights are so bright. by JoeJoJosie (Mon 27th Feb 2023 12:50am)
  • Get Tony Robinson and the Time-Team squad in. See if they can tell by the strata when Ibrox might reach the medieval era. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 28th Feb 2023 4:22pm)
  • On the 1% chance that it *wasn't* a scam, ignore it anyway - you'll get it far cheaper through the council. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 28th Feb 2023 4:29pm)
  • Folk should write to the Council if they want to kill it. Stop them getting a license. by JoeJoJosie (Mon 6th Mar 2023 4:32pm)
  • Yes I read that too. Weird as it may sound, it interferes with the brains mechanism that forms long-term memories or something. It's not just anecdotal, it's been tested. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 8th Mar 2023 2:44pm)
  • One of my close friends died on the line between the Briggs and Lenzie just over a year ago, in somewhat suspicious circumstances. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 8th Mar 2023 2:48pm)
  • That sucks. I take it this was a 'national UK' policy? Part of an ingenious cost-cutting program by some think-tank. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 8th Mar 2023 2:49pm)
  • Where I am it's 2x £2.xx or £5 All Day for bus and £3.20 Return to QST. And the train takes 9 minutes. by JoeJoJosie (Sat 11th Mar 2023 4:20pm)
  • Round about the college is ok, but the flats/apartments on Atlas and overlooking Springburn Rd as far as Viewpoint Rd are pretty grim. It's been getting better - I suspect because the large number of immigrants aren't prepared to put up with wee fannies trashing their area. Some of these folk come from literal war-zones and aren't intimidated by a few neds with Bucky bottles. by JoeJoJosie (Sun 12th Mar 2023 2:20am)
  • Don't accept just anybody. Ask to hear/see them first. You'll find some real stoaters appearing who will either not know which end of a drumstick to stick up their arse, or will turn up pished and puke on the mixing desk. by JoeJoJosie (Mon 13th Mar 2023 12:04pm)
  • So - don't overcommit when you're not sure you're staying and *always* take 5 million photos of any flat before you move in, cos this is standard-issue for landlords. If it makes you feel better, trash the flat and tell the landlord and the Fibre company to take a flying fuck to themselves. There's a 95% chance neither will pursue you with any real effort. by JoeJoJosie (Mon 13th Mar 2023 12:01pm)
  • Try and find the name of the places that did the previous MOTs and have a look at them - see if they look like the kind of place that will 'overlook' MOT failing issues for £20. In my experience, if you keep the rust under control and make at least a half-arsed effort at maintenance, Transits will go til you die of old-age. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 14th Mar 2023 12:43am)
  • This is the one thing in the world that Facebook/Twatter/Instagram can be useful for. If no word in 2 days, start checking 'Pets For Sale' on Gumtree. by JoeJoJosie (Tue 14th Mar 2023 12:45am)
  • Good. Ever fucking single-use vape should have a photo of an african kid dying in a lithium mine. They're not even 'single-use' by nature - you CAN charge them (and I do)- it's just more profitable to sell new ones. by JoeJoJosie (Wed 15th Mar 2023 3:16pm)
