  • There are a lot of stairs and small, narrow corridors. Also, being a walking tour, you’re on your feet the whole time so it depends on the severity of the mobility issues. Hope that helps :) by jacquetpotato (Sun 15th Dec 2019 9:11pm)
  • I really wanted to like Doune castle. I’ve had a historic Scotland membership this year so been travelling around visiting loads of castles. Doune has been one of my least favourite. It was so dark inside and there was a giant pile of furniture in the corner with tape round it in the middle of the great hall which looked awful. Most other Castles I’ve visited have had lights inside so you can actually see what you’re looking at. Dumbarton and Blackness were far better (in my opinion). by jacquetpotato (Thu 19th Dec 2019 10:31pm)
  • https://www.itison.com/glasgow/deals Can find loads of food and activity vouchers on here. Was created in Glasgow so has loads of options and some interesting stuff. I’m sure you could find something a bit different on here and there’s the option to email the voucher as a gift (so it doesn’t show the price)! Hope this helps :) by jacquetpotato (Sun 22nd Dec 2019 7:06pm)
  • Do you have a car? Whitelee wind farm is decent for a walk. Can be as long or short as you want because it goes on and on for ages. There’s a visitor centre with toilets and a cafe but it’s pretty south of Glasgow and I don’t know if there’s public transport. Pollok park, Mugdock park, Barrhead Dams. Those are your country type parks. You could follow the cycle path either direction from the city centre. It goes all the way to Loch Lomond heading west and out to Bothwell (I’m sure) the other way but you’d be walking a fair bit till you were out of urban areas and into the countryside. There’s also the Glasgow mural trail in the city centre of you want to look at walls rather than trees. Ha! Really though, if you want a decent forest type trail you would probably need to go further out. It’s mostly just parks in and around Glasgow. by jacquetpotato (Tue 31st Dec 2019 7:33am)
  • I made the mistake of cycling this once...for fun. Never again! by jacquetpotato (Sat 4th Jan 2020 12:44am)
  • You’re from Canada, right? You’ll be amazed at now much you can get for your money here. When I lived in Canada, you paid a fortune per month for a contract and got hardly any data for it. That was a good few years ago mind you so it might have changed but compared to that, any provider in the uk will be decent. The main ones are three, O2, vodaphone, EE but there are loads of smaller companies that offer great deals now and you will find that a lot of them use the same signal masts as the main ones so have just as good a signal i.e. sky mobile use O2 masts etc. Hope this helps :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 6th Jan 2020 6:33pm)

  • Ingliston park and ride is a free car park near Edinburgh airport and then you’d get the tram which takes about half an hour. However, if you’re driving there at rush hour times then the train from Glasgow might still be quicker. Just make sure you get the service with the fewest stops, can be the difference between a 45 minute journey and 60 minutes+ (made that mistake before)! by jacquetpotato (Sun 26th Jan 2020 10:24am)
  • There are always spa deals on the likes of itison and groupon. Depends if it’s just for a one off spa visit or you’re looking for more regular use of one. Like others said, most leisure centres have a sauna/steam room but they’ll not be anything fancy. by jacquetpotato (Mon 27th Jan 2020 6:17pm)
  • Most Glasgow parks seem to have a cafe of some sort (either in the park or close by) so you should just make your way round them all. Take your book with you so you can still do a bit of reading on your coffee break :) Balloch is a quick train journey away, as is most of Ayrshire if you fancied a beach stroll. You can really go anywhere with Glasgow as your base and you’ll always find something to do at the other end! Loads of walks, museums, beaches, hills and Lochs no matter what direction you go. Walking highlands is a good website which will give you a bunch of different walks (of different lengths and abilities) throughout the regions. What’s on Glasgow website will give you activities and events that are happening on your chosen date (it also shows Edinburgh, Stirling, lankarshire etc). Can sometimes find wee gems on there that you’d miss otherwise :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 27th Jan 2020 6:32pm)
  • Check www.dayoutwiththekids.co.uk - just type your location and it’ll give you a bunch of places nearby (free and paid). Parks, castles, activities, leisure centres, play areas etc :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 27th Jan 2020 6:37pm)
  • After buying my first house last year, I totally understand why moving house is the most stressful thing you can do...but for me, it wasn’t the moving itself but the crazy bidding war situation. We went to see a two bedroom cottage flat that was listed as offers over £85,000. Someone bid £100,000 during the viewing just to secure it (totally not worth that amount). Even when we finally did put an offer in on a place, they knocked back our first few offers and eventually said they would only accept the house valuation price which was £5000 above the list price. Why even have an “offers over” if it’s never going to be accepted!? So frustrating. by jacquetpotato (Tue 28th Jan 2020 11:28am)
  • There was a programme on a few months ago about persimmon and how terrible their houses are. They are being removed from the help to buy scheme apparently, because there are too many complaints about their properties. I’d avoid them at all costs if you can!! https://www.channel4.com/press/news/britains-new-build-scandal-channel-4-dispatches by jacquetpotato (Tue 28th Jan 2020 11:36am)
  • Yeah it’s insane. We had 25k as well, 20k for deposit and 5k for fees/furniture. It all had to come down to my income because my partner is self employed but hasn’t been doing it long enough to have his income taken into consideration. In the end, we had to compromise on some of things we wanted (driveway, location etc) because we could only get approved for a 95k property. We had a baby on the way though so we couldn’t stay where we were and didn’t want to rent any longer. We see this as a starter home just now but at least we’re on the properly ladder :) I can totally sympathise with your situation though, it’s all bullshit. People should just tell you what they want for the property or what’s the very least they’d take for it. None of this backwards and forwards with offers that are, realistically, never going to be considered! My only advice is not to waste your time with a mortgage broker (first mortgage in particular). They will try to sell you every added extra under the sun to get commission, and make you think you NEED these things when you don’t. Lucky we saw straight through it all and ended up doing it ourselves. Good luck! by jacquetpotato (Tue 28th Jan 2020 11:46am)
  • I’m sure that usual nonsense commenced when the bands were on stage. by jacquetpotato (Wed 29th Jan 2020 1:16pm)
  • Itison currently have Loch Katrine boat tickets and also Falkirk wheel boat tickets on sale (if you decide to do that, it might save some cash). Stirling castle is a good shout no matter the weather because a lot of it is inside and you can do the outside parts when the rain eases off. There’s a massive car park outside it too so don’t need to worry about parking. It’s a few quid though, not free. Could easily spend the majority of the day in there and then go get dinner afterwards. by jacquetpotato (Wed 29th Jan 2020 1:34pm)

  • What about the new mini golf in the city centre? Has a bar so you can still have a few drinks. There are two courses, the one downstairs is UV. It’s called jungle rumble I’m sure. There’s also an old school bowling alley/bar on glassford street. Something a bit different. by jacquetpotato (Fri 7th Feb 2020 9:38am)

  • This made me laugh so much. My wee one is only 4 months so I’ve not had to suffer the play areas yet but one day I’ll be having the same “shite shite” day as you haha. by jacquetpotato (Sun 9th Feb 2020 11:33am)
  • Yeah I’m intrigued about this flyers on the phone thing too. What’s that all about? I live in Glasgow and no idea what it’s referring to! by jacquetpotato (Tue 11th Feb 2020 11:48am)
  • Usually, nearer the time, you’ll get people who genuinely can’t make it who will sell tickets for face value. I’m not a facebooker but you will probably find a page for the venue, the band or the gig where you could ask for tickets? Or try asking on that r/glasgowmarket page although there aren’t that many followers. by jacquetpotato (Fri 14th Feb 2020 4:59pm)
  • There’s an auction house off shieldhall road that should be able to value stuff for you. I think they take a set percentage of the sale if they sell it for you https://www.mctears.co.uk by jacquetpotato (Mon 9th Mar 2020 9:08pm)
  • Heard the baby thrashing about and gesturing for milk at 8am so I got up and nipped to the loo. Came back to get her and she’d fallen back asleep. I’ve been stuck awake since and she’s still bloody snoozing! Reddit it is then. She’s lucky she’s cute... by jacquetpotato (Tue 10th Mar 2020 8:56am)

  • Unfortunately it seems to be a case of preaching to the converted :( Anyone who has a conscience or any kind of moral fibre is already following the rules and those who are selfish arseholes will continue to be selfish arseholes, regardless of how many fines they get. There were people having a pool party in my neighbourhood last night with one of those inflatable hot tubs, shouting and blaring music till 1am in an area with loads of families with young kids. There’s just no cure for that level of stupidity. by jacquetpotato (Sat 11th Apr 2020 12:18pm)
  • Are they not even letting a birthing partner in anymore? That’s rough. Hope it all goes well and congrats when baby arrives! :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 13th Apr 2020 9:29am)
  • I know I’ll get shit for saying this but I kinda prefer instant coffee these days. I add two scoops of coffee mate and it’s amazing and caramelly. Can’t handle the caffeine content in barista coffee anymore since I had my baby (probably after 9 months without it). Ha! by jacquetpotato (Tue 14th Apr 2020 9:57am)
  • It’s slightly warmer in the afternoon about 3/4pm. Looks like it will get to about 15/16°c! Although, that does probably mean the afternoon will be busier... by jacquetpotato (Sun 19th Apr 2020 8:28am)

  • I grew up right next to both Pollok and Bellahouston park and didn’t realise how lucky I was. Not technically in Glasgow but Rouken Glen park is great because it has a bit of everything; boating pond, cafe, Glen walks, waterfalls, skate park, play park, tennis courts, wee rangers cabin that has activities on for kids (when there’s not a pandemic). Calderglen park in East Kilbride is quite similar too but it has a small zoo in it that’s a few quid to get into. Honestly, I’m happy in pretty much any park so it’s (quite clearly) hard for me to choose a favourite. Glaswegians are so lucky to have so many great parks to choose from! :) by jacquetpotato (Sat 2nd May 2020 1:07pm)
  • Me too. A baby who previously slept through the night has now decided she needs milk at exactly that time each night. Broken sleep is hellish. I feel ya! by jacquetpotato (Mon 4th May 2020 11:16am)
  • I think everything is just taking slightly longer just now with everything that’s going on. I applied for exemption mid March because our house was lying empty and unfurnished for almost a month before we actually moved in. They only got back to me in the last week. They offered to either refund the money or to credit my account meaning the rest of the monthly payments this year would be slightly cheaper. I’m sure you’ll get the same option when they finally get back to you, so just pay it if you can and they will sort it :) by jacquetpotato (Fri 8th May 2020 9:32am)

  • I recently downloaded the snapfish app because they’re doing 50 free prints per month for a year (you just pay postage). I always like looking back at physical photos of me as a kid so I think it’ll be nice to do the same for my daughter. She’s only 7 months old just now but I’ll just date them and sort them away in a box till she’s old enough to show interest :) There are loads of these sort of apps though. Most supermarkets also have photo printing machines that you just plug your phone into but it seems like it would take ages! Other than that, I was considering maybe buying a big external hard drive to save them all on to so I have a back up (like you said). by jacquetpotato (Thu 14th May 2020 9:59am)
  • Ahaha, well there ya go then! To be honest, considering it’s £3.50 postage, they aren’t exactly free anyway. No way does it cost that much to post a tiny package of photos. Either way, it’s the easiest way! by jacquetpotato (Fri 15th May 2020 9:42am)
  • One of the top ten rated mattresses on which magazine is an Ikea mattress and less than £200! It’s an extra firm mattress though so really depends what you’re after but you don’t always have to break the bank :) by jacquetpotato (Fri 15th May 2020 9:45am)
  • When I was quizmaster for my family quiz, I did five rounds relating to fives decades. Since there’s such a big age difference in the group, it gave everyone a fair chance of at least knowing SOMEthing. So I did 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s and every round had a mix of movies, music, big events etc. That went down quite well - just an idea :) by jacquetpotato (Sat 16th May 2020 9:58am)

  • I honestly can’t believe people are still recommending this lot. Maybe we just got a shitty advisor but we had a horrendous experience. She was impossible to get hold of (denied receiving calls and emails) and didn’t keep us in the loop about anything that was going on. They constantly try to sell insurances and cover that you don’t need but tell you that you do (that’s how they get commission). If you show even the slightest hint that you don’t know how the process works, they will try to take the piss. Dealing with them is one of the most drawn out and stressful experiences I’ve ever had! I would never go through an advisor again!! by jacquetpotato (Thu 11th Jun 2020 9:44am)
  • It was like that even before lockdown! Ghost toon! by jacquetpotato (Fri 12th Jun 2020 4:00pm)
  • They are also building a new bridge from Yoker to Braehead (which would replace the ferry) but, again, you’re talking a year or two before it’s finished. We viewed a house that was offers over X amount so we put in an offer and were told they wouldn’t accept anything lower than the home report...which was five grand more than the offers over price. SO WHAT’S THE FUCKING POINT!? I hated every minute of the house buying process. I feel your pain! by jacquetpotato (Thu 9th Jul 2020 8:48am)

  • This really irritates me at Drive Thrus like McDonald’s. There are bins all over the car park and a lot of them now have bins either side of the exit so you can just lean out the window and bin your bag...but what do most folk do? Chuck it straight out the window from their parking space the second they’re finished. It just seems to come as second nature to people in this country. They don’t even think about it, it’s just something they’ve always done. Drives me insane!! by jacquetpotato (Thu 16th Jul 2020 7:44am)

  • I used to cycle everywhere but it got far too scary (especially shieldhall road and roundabout) so I stopped. Driving ain’t much better these days because there are far too many cars on the roads, especially the single track type roads the further out you get. Buses seem to create potholes at every bus stop and sharp turn on their route. The majority of roads generally just feel tired and worn out to me. We’re heading towards a situation now where the roads aren’t suitable for either cars OR cyclists! by jacquetpotato (Fri 17th Jul 2020 11:42am)

  • I guess they just had to let me know that something had happened (without going into too much detail), that there’d be a lot of police and that I should try not to get myself in a panic (I was a proper worrier back then). A few of the lessons felt normal but I’ll always remember one science teacher was so upset, he could barely teach the lesson. They should perhaps have had a half day and sent everyone home to grieve/process what was happening. by jacquetpotato (Tue 4th Aug 2020 8:35am)
  • There are the likes of “run free” fields in Renfrewshire. Big fenced off fields you can rent for 30 min chunks and let your dogs run wild :) Problem is, they’re usually in the middle of nowhere so you need a car to reach them. Something within easy reach of public transport could definitely do well. by jacquetpotato (Tue 4th Aug 2020 11:41am)
  • I think they’re planning on banning cars in the future. They’re gonna turn some of the disused pitches into a big car park and then run a shuttle bus. Should be much much better/safer for everyone! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.glasgowlive.co.uk/news/glasgow-news/plans-unveiled-make-pollok-country-18399077.amp by jacquetpotato (Wed 5th Aug 2020 12:18pm)

  • Oh, I didn’t even realise you could get a guided tour. I always thought it was just a self guided thing. I haven’t ever really looked that much into it though to be honest. Sorry by jacquetpotato (Wed 5th Aug 2020 1:20pm)
  • Wow, that’s a bit extreme to be asked the EXACT journey times. Is that so they can check up on people who are late? by jacquetpotato (Thu 6th Aug 2020 4:02pm)
  • Someone I know used to do that as a job. Stand at bus stops in a high vis and write down the times that the buses arrived. They could be late but not a second early. Weird. by jacquetpotato (Fri 7th Aug 2020 4:23pm)
  • It’s nice but it’s not very big (the woods or the beach). There’s a decent trail through the woods and alongside the water past Mar Hall and it’s amazing to see the Erskine bridge from that angle. The car park isn’t very big but since you’re cycling, you’ll be fine. by jacquetpotato (Sat 8th Aug 2020 9:03am)

  • If you’re just looking to practice basics then any flat, smooth bit of ground will do. The skateparks are always mobbed outside of school times but they should be quiet enough during the day now that most kids are back in class! :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 17th Aug 2020 10:12am)

  • All gone, no visitor centre anymore either :( by jacquetpotato (Tue 18th Aug 2020 10:38am)
  • They got rid of them all recently and closed the visitor centre - “council budget cuts” apparently by jacquetpotato (Tue 18th Aug 2020 10:37am)
  • Calderglen is still going but Barshaw don’t seem to have any animals anymore. Think they were rehomed along with the animals in Robertson park in renfrew. Palacerigg park is the same, all gone :( by jacquetpotato (Tue 18th Aug 2020 10:40am)
  • Honestly though, I went there a lot as a kid and the whole place stank of piss...especially underneath the wee climbing frame in the play park bit up there in animal corner haha. Still a shame though - less and less free attractions every year! by jacquetpotato (Tue 18th Aug 2020 5:30pm)
  • Aldi sell them in packs of 4 but they’re just not the same as the loose ones in the newsagents and co-op! by jacquetpotato (Fri 21st Aug 2020 8:47am)
  • I went to the cinema the week everything ended up closing down back in March. The screen we were in was covered in stuff from the previous showing; popcorn on the floor, sticky stuff on the seats etc. I can’t imagine those seats were getting wiped down at all and I’m not sure things would be any different now. Even with distance between customers and empty seats, people are touching their faces and mouths to eat and then touching the arms of the chairs, the buttons for the recliners, the door handles etc...and if it’s anything like before, I wouldn’t trust it at all. by jacquetpotato (Sun 23rd Aug 2020 9:02am)
  • What about Mosspark? Quiet enough to be safe with a toddler and sandwiched between bellahouston park and Pollok park. There’s a nursery/primary school in the area so no crossing big main roads full of traffic. There’s a wee row of shops for essentials. Corkerhill train station is right next to Cardonald college and there are two busses that go to the city centre or shawlands but you’re just a short walk through bellahouston park to loads of buses on the Paisley road west. Good access to both motorways if you drive. by jacquetpotato (Sat 29th Aug 2020 2:58pm)
  • What are they made of? :) by jacquetpotato (Tue 1st Sep 2020 2:52pm)
  • I haven’t had Facebook in years and I don’t miss it at all but recently, I’ve been trying to find my kid a nursery place and noticed that they’re all telling me the same thing - “oh, we have a private Facebook group so that you can see your child’s progress”. Same with work and their Christmas nights out - “oh, we’ve set up a Facebook event!” Ehhh, what about the people who don’t use Facebook? I am definitely in the minority. by jacquetpotato (Wed 2nd Sep 2020 8:38am)
  • What about dams 2 Darnley? Can walk from Darnley all the way to Barrhead reservoirs through woodlands and under viaducts and things :) by jacquetpotato (Sat 5th Sep 2020 9:37pm)
  • Have a chat with your landlord and see what they can do. I managed to cut a deal with my last landlord by allowing them to set up viewings while I still lived there. Meant they had a new tenant lined up already and didn’t mind cutting my notice period down! :) by jacquetpotato (Wed 9th Sep 2020 4:22pm)
  • One of the newsagents under central bridge used to take euros. Not sure why or if they still do but hey, could just buy a bunch of munchies! by jacquetpotato (Wed 9th Sep 2020 4:29pm)
  • I think it gets more people interested and creates a bidding war or closing date. People are aware that the viewing they attended was really busy and then panic thinking they’ll be outbid and end up adding ridiculous amounts over the asking price. It’s all very shitty! by jacquetpotato (Thu 10th Sep 2020 11:42am)
  • Summerlee heritage museum is good for kids. I think they’re doing pre-booked slots so have a look at their website but there’s indoor stuff and outdoor stuff. It’s in Coatbridge so only 15 minute drive from Cumbernauld where you’re staying :) https://culturenl.co.uk/summerlee/ by jacquetpotato (Sat 12th Sep 2020 12:14pm)
  • Palacerigg used to be good but they took away all the animals and closed down the visitor centre so it’s not quite as good for toddlers anymore :( by jacquetpotato (Sat 12th Sep 2020 12:16pm)
  • I’m sure I read in the news recently that the police are now launching a bike marking scheme because so many bikes have been stolen in the southside over the past few months. It’s nuts! by jacquetpotato (Tue 15th Sep 2020 10:12am)
  • I get what they’re trying to do but surely they or you still need to find the stolen bike first before you can prove it’s yours. When I lived in Canada, bike theft was a MASSIVE issue but it never seemed as big a problem over here...until recently. So disappointing! People can be so shite. by jacquetpotato (Tue 15th Sep 2020 11:18am)
  • https://birthbabybeyond.org.uk always looking for things like this - they have a lot of bulky items like Cots, high chairs etc. Give them a wee call or email. • Honestly, if you can be arsed then you’re better off phoning. I had the same situation trying to cancel virgin media recently and got passed between 3 different online chats because they weren’t sure which department I had to talk to. They kept asking for a password that “wasn’t my log in password” and I had no idea what they were on about so I got absolutely nowhere and had to call in anyway! What a faff. by jacquetpotato (Fri 18th Sep 2020 1:29pm)

  • It’s mad to think there was a point in my early to mid twenties where I couldn’t imagine life without pubs and clubs. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve just got fed up of it really. Wasted weekends, empty bank account, feeling unfulfilled. I didn’t make a conscious effort to stop drinking and partying, it just sort of naturally came to an end for me but I’m glad it did. As others have said, you 100% will lose friends. You will realise that a massive majority of the people you know, you only ever hang out with on nights out and that’s ok. That’s just life. Onwards and upwards - good luck! :) by jacquetpotato (Sun 27th Sep 2020 12:28pm)

They will push the life out of “critical illness cover” and “income protection” and do everything they can to make you think it’s a requirement. They took forever to get in touch with us or return our calls and never kept us in the loop about anything (even failing to mention that they’d decided to change providers half way through). Absolute shower of shites in my opinion! by jacquetpotato (Wed 21st Oct 2020 4:14pm)

  • Boden Boo is good for kids. It’s kinda hidden/secluded so away from the main roads. There’s a nice little path network through the woods so you can collect leaves or acorns or whatever interests your little explorers. There’s also the option to follow part of the Clyde walkway alongside the water for a bit and then just turn back when little legs get tired :) by jacquetpotato (Tue 27th Oct 2020 9:51am)

  • Why don’t you download an app like geocache and go find some hidden treasure! There’s a decent loop of them at whitelee windfarm if you’re able to get there but pretty much everywhere in Glasgow has some. You can take a trinket and leave one of your own but really it’s just the satisfaction of finding them and writing your victory down. It’s not fair for charity workers to have to raid through bin bags of soiled clothes, food covered frying pans, odd shoes etc. They have to be able to sell these things, it’s not just a place to get rid of old crap. My parents house is exactly like this and 3 mobile sent one out after they complained. Mind you, it was shit and didn’t actually achieve much so they just ended up changing networks in the end haha but worth a shot to see if it works for you before you shell out? by jacquetpotato (Thu 26th Nov 2020 11:00am)
  • The rules definitely seem slacker this time round for what is considered “essential”. I’m sure someone posted recently that the clothing shop they worked for was being kept open because it sold a small selection of homeware. Companies are definitely looking for loopholes this time round I think. Desperate times and that. by jacquetpotato (Sat 28th Nov 2020 7:56pm)
  • It seems to be this “homeware” malarkey. It’s slightly irritating that shops can open and only sell candles but I can’t get my one year old a fitted pair of shoes in Clarks. Never mind me. I’m just bitter that I’m having to order a £12 shoe gauge from them and pay £4 delivery for it - sigh! by jacquetpotato (Sat 28th Nov 2020 9:10pm)
  • I can totally understand why they have precautions in place but sometimes it’s almost impossible for the majority of people to rehome a dog. Unless you have a home with a private, enclosed garden, no kids, a job that allows you to stay home all day etc then it can be a real struggle to find a match. I have a friend who tried so hard for almost a year to rehome but she kept getting rejected and ended up just getting a puppy from a breeder. Surely this is what the sspca, dogs trusts etc are trying to steer people away from? by jacquetpotato (Thu 3rd Dec 2020 4:47pm)
  • What’s your budget? You could get a membership for the likes of historic Scotland or the national trust. Let’s you into a bunch of castles or historical buildings around Scotland for a year - and usually around this time they add a few months on for free. These places probably need the support now more than ever too :) by jacquetpotato (Fri 4th Dec 2020 12:39pm)

  • I had the exact same issue with virgin media, who most people rave about! Now with BT which has been far better. I guess it all depends where you live, how thick the walls are etc but remember you should get a 14 day cooling off period to cancel new services if you don’t like them! by jacquetpotato (Tue 15th Dec 2020 9:06am)

  • I had my baby just before Christmas last year and even without a pandemic, I found it quite stressful - organising feeds, naps, someone always having to hold her. This year, despite lockdown, was far more enjoyable since she could join in more, eat some Christmas dinner, play some games....and then the best part, 730pm bedtime so us adults could have a few drinks :) by jacquetpotato (Sun 27th Dec 2020 10:03am)
  • I know this isn’t helpful right now but there was an English/Italian “bounce and rhyme” baby/toddler class in the west end pre-pandemic. Might be worth them looking for when things start back up and running again! :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 28th Dec 2020 2:22pm)
  • Weather warning between 6pm tonight and 2pm tomorrow so prepare for worse in the morning :( by jacquetpotato (Wed 30th Dec 2020 10:52am)
  • Do you think that’s because Glasgow used to have a street party and they’ve just never bothered to change the legislation? It’s about time they got rid of the ban on public drinking altogether. The majority of people can have a sensible drink in a park without being a nuisance...and the ones who can’t are the ones who are gonna do it anyway, regardless of the law! by jacquetpotato (Thu 31st Dec 2020 10:21am)
  • I respect your opinion but I disagree. Removing the public drinking laws doesn’t change the power the police have to deal with public disorder, breach of the peach, lewd behaviour etc whether alcohol is involved or not. There are laws against rape but that doesn’t make me feel any safer walking down an alley way in the city centre at 5am. I reckon there’s more trouble from people drinking in their own houses or in pubs/clubs than in the parks these days. These laws were made in like 2008. Are you seriously trying to say things haven’t progressed since then and THE MAJORITY of people can’t be trusted to have one or two beers in the sun without getting into bother? by jacquetpotato (Thu 31st Dec 2020 12:52pm)
  • I was just reading a story from a doctor in London saying there are loads of kids on their wards now due to the new strain...is that true up here too? by jacquetpotato (Sat 2nd Jan 2021 8:59am)
  • Whichever one you go for, remember the other is only a short flight away for a visit/holiday on the way over or your way back. Paris is lovely and very photogenic but the people were not particularly friendly compared to Glasgow (in my experience). The weather in Scotland can obviously be a downside but the rain is what keeps the scenery so fresh and green! I went to Paris during winter and it was cold but sunny. That’s also the way Glasgow has been this week but it’s hard to guarantee. Another thing to remember is that the days are really short here in the winter, we lose sunlight about 4pm! I think if it was me, considering it’s only for a few months during winter, then I’d choose Paris. If it was a full year or 6 months I’d say Glasgow and then visit Paris....but then maybe I’m only saying that because I already live here. by jacquetpotato (Mon 4th Jan 2021 8:52am)
  • The shortest day this year was December 21st I’m sure so technically the days are getting slightly longer each day but the further north you go, the more light you lose. Paris probably gets about an hour or so more daylight in the winter than Glasgow does. It doesn’t sound like a lot but it does make a difference! I was in Quebec in September/October a few years ago and I would say it felt more like Parisian weather - cold but sunny. It didn’t rain once in the two weeks I was there. The start of this month in Glasgow was rainy, windy, miserable. Is there an option for you to choose Paris but fly home via Glasgow? Maybe stay for 5 days or a week at the end of your exchange? There are definitely flights from Glasgow to Halifax (that’s where I flew home from) but not sure about direct to Quebec. by jacquetpotato (Mon 4th Jan 2021 9:14am)
  • If you’re looking to see as much of Europe as possible then you’re probably best being based in Paris since it’s on mainland Europe (easy connections to other places by bus/train) whereas U.K. is a separate island. Also, we’ve just left the E.U so it would possibly be more expensive to travel back and forth to mainland European countries for visits. I’m not trying to put you off Glasgow but for a few short months in winter, Paris has the wow factor and their Christmas market down the length of the Champs-Élysées is amazing. I’m sure you could find some basic french lessons in Ottawa or online. I think French Canadian is slightly different to french french....but Paris is such a big tourist destination that most restaurants/shops/bars etc will have staff members that can speak English :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 4th Jan 2021 9:33am)

  • I’m glad it’s not just me that does this. I feel so guilty but some days I’m just counting the minutes till nap time or bedtime so I can get a break. It’s such a long day with nowhere to go and nothing to do. It really does help to try and get outside at least one a day if the weather is ok...but damn, it’s so difficult to fill the day up otherwise. She’s at that awkward age where she constantly wants to be on the move and is frustrated being contained to the house....but she’s too young to watch a movie or do any real sorts of arts and crafts that might take up a decent chunk of time. by jacquetpotato (Fri 8th Jan 2021 2:48pm)

  • I can totally sympathise, it’s so hard to keep toddlers entertained all day with everything closed. I get that your partner needs some space to work but you can’t surely be expected to spend full days outside in winter? If you spent a few hours at the park and then came home, could your partner work in the bedroom while you and kiddo are in the living room? You could try some quieter activities that require more focus like arts and crafts, simple jigsaws, reading books. by jacquetpotato (Mon 11th Jan 2021 10:33am)

  • This happened to me right before I moved out of my flat too, got some dodgy looking email asking us to change the bank account we send our money too. Didn’t seem legit at all but apparently there were new owners. It just did not read like a genuine email at all. In the three years we lived there, I think they did an inspection once...maybe twice, that was it. We never had any major issues but the few we did mention we were told would be passed on to the landlord and seemingly never were. • Watch out for “free” mortgage advisors trying to over sell you insurance (that’s how they get commission). They really over push added critical illness cover on top of life insurance etc but if you actually read into it, insurance companies will only pay once...either when you get ill or when you die. Not both! I know a lot of people on here have had a positive experience with First Mortgage but my advisor was awful. Impossible to get hold of, changed mortgage provider without telling us etc. So if you do use an advisor, then learn the basics beforehand so you don’t get taken advantage of :) by jacquetpotato (Thu 11th Mar 2021 10:57am)
  • I’m so mixed up with how I feel. On one hand, I’m keen to get back to some sort of normality and the social aspect of work...but then I also know I’m gonna be so exhausted going back to work full time now that I have a toddler. • Honestly, when will people ever learn? How many times do we see appeals urging people not to buy pets from Gumtree and only buy via official breeders, rehoming centres, ask to see the parents etc. The only reason these puppy farm operations continue is because they get customers...over and over again. What’s it gonna take to open peoples eyes? Downvote me all you want but these animals are suffering and it’s really starting to piss me off that people won’t even do the minimal amount of research before buying!! by jacquetpotato (Tue 16th Mar 2021 9:50am)

  • Bellahouston park has a small enclosed dog area at the Paisley road west side between the bowling green and the hockey pitches. Robertson park in Renfrew also has one about the same size but usually quite muddy. There’s a new paid dog field in Dams to Darnley country park at the Barrhead end (depending on where you live) but it’s still about £6 for 30 mins. If you’re planning on training the dog and gradually socialising it then you probably won’t need the secure fields for too long. Personally, I’d just pay the £6 to have peace of mind that you’ve got the whole area to yourself :) by jacquetpotato (Sat 20th Mar 2021 8:17am)

Decided I was gonna be ridiculously late so I hopped on a bus just before the O2 academy and couldn’t believe it when I was charged £2.50. You can literally see the town centre from there. • What about BellaHouston park? There are a few play parks, a wee maze, an art/statue garden in the grounds of house of an art lover (takeaway coffees etc), a dry ski slope you could watch people on (if it’s open), a really good view from the top of the hill and it’s all tarmac! I’m hesitant to suggest Pollok park because it’s always so so busy but there’s loads to do there. Pollok house is lovely to see and lots to explore in the grounds (maze, flowers, ponds etc). There are highlands cows, a small cute dairy Glen and then a good play park next to the Burrell collection with a coffee/burger van and even a good sized block of temporary public toilets. You can’t drive into the park at weekends anymore but I’m assuming that just means Saturday and Sunday. Rouken Glen is good but I’m not sure you’ll be allowed to drive there from the north of Glasgow under current restrictions since it’s east Renfrewshire (you’d have to check) but there’s a massive play park there, ice cream van, toilets, duck pond, waterfall, lots of woodland trails (but they’re not overly Pram friendly), garden centre, skatepark. This park is almost never quiet so prepare for carnage. by jacquetpotato (Fri 9th Apr 2021 10:02am)
  • There’s not really much else to do right now than make your way round the parks. Take a picnic, some seeds for ducks if there’s a pond. Can pick up cheap outdoor games from supermarkets, home bargains, B&M etc. I think the museums will start opening back up in a few weeks but likely there will be limited spaces and you’ll have to book like last time so keep an eye out for that. This is a good Instagram account of a family that visit all the parks and review them :) https://instagram.com/glasgowwithkids There’s also the outdoor play groups like dumbreck play barn in Pollok park and off the grid community in east Renfrewshire that you can book :) by jacquetpotato (Sat 10th Apr 2021 8:35am)

Post pandemic there will be a club for absolutely everything again :) by jacquetpotato (Sun 11th Apr 2021 9:03am)

  • What kind of thing are you looking for? You could get the train to south queensferry (Dalmeny I think the train station is) and walk about there. Lovely views of the bridges, cobbled streets, lots of wee cafes and ice cream shops. You could always walk over the bridge to the north side and have a look around there where the sea life centre is and get the train back from that side? Go to Callander (which is lovely enough in itself and has Bracklinn Falls) but there’s a lovely easy long walk you can follow all the way along to Loch Lubnaig past the falls of Leny, Ben Ledi etc. It really depends on what you’re looking for. A short walk, a longer hike, beach, parks, strenuous, easy. I’ve got suggestions :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 19th Apr 2021 9:20am)

  • This is awful. Libraries are so much more than just a place to borrow books. They host such important classes like free baby and toddler clubs. I barely wanted to leave the house as a new parent but having a bookbug session only a 10 minute walk from me actually got me out of the house and talking to other local parents. At school, I spent loads of time studying in the library since, let’s face it, our houses are too full of distractions. The computers were always fully booked with people who didn’t have access to one at home. Libraries are vital local community hubs and people shouldn’t have to leave their local area to find one! :( by jacquetpotato (Wed 21st Apr 2021 8:43am)

  • It’s funny, I spent the whole of my early 20s living for the weekend. I never thought anything would ever be as exciting as partying. As soon as I got to the end of my 20’s, I couldn’t think of anything worse. Now it’s new electrical appliances that get my juices flowing haha. I got so excited about getting a dishwasher recently - it’s mad how your priorities change! by jacquetpotato (Sat 5th Jun 2021 1:51pm)

Don’t think I’ve seen a single police car on the roads for about 6 months and I passed 3 yesterday on one 15 minute journey. There were even two policemen on foot patrol in my area! • What about primark or h&m? They both have a basics range where stuff is pretty cheap. Either that or check out some of the larger supermarkets that do clothing. Just avoid the branded stuff (Marvel, Disney etc) and it should be fairly cheap. • This is something I’ve definitely noticed over the last few years. I’ve dabbled in things in the past but everyone would always keep it on the down low and not want to draw too much attention to themselves. Now it’s become so normalised among the youngsters, they will talk about taking lines so blasé the way I’d have talked about doing shots of apple sourz at their age. They don’t care who is listening because it’s almost kind of assumed that everyone else is doing it too (maybe they are). It doesn’t seem to matter which group of people I’m with, there’s always one person on the hunt for a bag as soon as they’ve got the taste for alcohol. I’ve lost friends to suicide because they couldn’t see a life beyond the party, and even that hasn’t been enough of a kick up the arse for their peers. I’m not anti-drug, I’ve had some amazing nights myself, but the problem is that people just don’t know where to draw the line. by jacquetpotato (Sun 12th Sep 2021 9:33am)
  • Oh man, same here. I am rarely in the city centre these days but met a friend for dinner a few weekends ago and as soon as I left central station, the whole area was stinking of puke. • When is it? If it’s nearer the end of the month, there will be loads of Halloween events on. Usually a good one in kelburn estate. There’s also one up at Strathclyde park this year too! Otherwise the same as the rest have suggested; mini golf, bowling, ace throwing, escape rooms. There was meant to be a place called boom battle bar opening in St Enoch centre with a mixture of activities but no sign of an opening date yet. There’s a few different places near each other in kinning park near the quay (mini golf, roller disco, inflatable city thing, laser tag) and then there are restaurants, casino, bowling, cinema at the quay itself. Totally depends what kind of stuff you want to do :) by jacquetpotato (Wed 6th Oct 2021 4:49pm)

  • I ordered a pack with good intentions but submitting the results online just seemed so needlessly long with endless questions (maybe I was using the wrong site?). So I’ve never actually submitted a result but I do one if I have any events like weddings, nights out etc. by jacquetpotato (Fri 8th Oct 2021 3:44pm)
  • I did the same thing…and I tried to record my results online and it was asking soooo many questions that I gave up. Why can’t it just ask for the test number and result. Why do they need to know you name, age, address, sex, job, relationship status and a million other questions! by jacquetpotato (Fri 8th Oct 2021 3:41pm)
  • I’d also ordered it for a birthday but due to the shipping delay, we missed it. Wondering if I should keep it for Xmas or just give the wee one it now! by jacquetpotato (Fri 8th Oct 2021 3:52pm)

  • They reinstated the fee for the queen street toilets which enrages me. ITS A BASIC HUMAN NEED, FS! You should be able to get in with a valid train ticket. Who has 30p on them anymore! by jacquetpotato (Mon 11th Oct 2021 11:01am)
  • They took the fee away for a while and only recently reinstated it which is the most annoying part. Apparently police Scotland say it attracts too much antisocial behaviour but the lack of free public toilets in Glasgow is shocking. Like I said, surely they can implement a system where you can use the toilets with a valid train ticket? by jacquetpotato (Mon 11th Oct 2021 2:11pm)
  • I’m sure Iceland sold them for a bit but not sure now, worth a look? by jacquetpotato (Tue 12th Oct 2021 2:02pm)

  • Where are you based? There are two party shops (one in govan next to the Asda and one in Hillington industrial estate). On queen street in the city centre there’s a shop called Geekaboo which usually does costumes about this time of year. Also on queen street, a famous joke shop called Tam Shepherds (if it’s still open)! Queen street usually ends up with a pop up Halloween shop of some kind too, worth a look? by jacquetpotato (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 8:55am)
  • Aw shit, yeah. I thought I’d read they only bought half the party place unit but maybe they’ve taken it all. Are they gonna add extra parking spaces somehow? by jacquetpotato (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 12:41pm)
  • Yeah but surely there’s still a kfc, Starbucks etc there too? Just need to hope most people will use the drive thrus! Aldi will do well there :) by jacquetpotato (Fri 22nd Oct 2021 12:58pm)

  • Necropolis is a graveyard so not ticketed but check if it’s open. Most of the streets in town will be ticketed until 6pm but you could maybe park further out and avoid being charged if you’re happy to walk in. by jacquetpotato (Mon 1st Nov 2021 1:54pm)
  • They passed a new law on this at the end of last year I’m sure - staff have to get all the tips and service charges. Restaurants can’t keep any percentage of it so hopefully that’s helped :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 1st Nov 2021 2:06pm)
  • I can’t comment on the current busy levels of the M8 but speaking as someone who missed their flight because they got the latest bus possible and it got stuck in a traffic jam….do you have the option of an earlier bus and just get some breakfast at the airport? by jacquetpotato (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 9:51am)
  • A landlord required the rent to be a certain percentage of your income? Is that even legal? The rent should be a set amount surely, no matter who is living there. That sounds so dodgy! I hope you weren’t getting fleeced…. by jacquetpotato (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 9:57am)
  • Oh right, haha, I get it now. I thought you meant your landlord was charging 35% of the tenants income no matter how much they earned! It was the same when I went for a mortgage and had to estimate exactly how much money went towards leisure, shopping, phone bills etc. Most banks want to see a good percentage of money left over after payments - less likely to default I guess. by jacquetpotato (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 10:12am)
  • When it happened to me, I think I’d seen too many movies and I envisioned this fun night sleeping in the airport and getting the first flight home the next day….but we were in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere where nobody spoke English. The airport closed at 10pm so we were chucked out on the street and the next flight back to Scotland wasn’t for 3 days. Woops. It makes a good throwback story now but my god, never again!! by jacquetpotato (Tue 2nd Nov 2021 1:46pm)
  • Honestly, pollok park looks amazing in autumn and you don’t have to go far! Where did you end up? by jacquetpotato (Wed 3rd Nov 2021 2:59pm)
  • There were a load of people camped before the exit to Haggs road, maybe climate protesters? I bet they let them out on purpose! ;) by jacquetpotato (Thu 4th Nov 2021 2:57pm)
  • There’s an electric go kart place in Hillington which I think does laser tag too. Maybe a bit far out but aberfoyle go ape is amazing. I think Balloch has its own mini treetop course too and it has a train station two mins away. You can buy/download treasure hunt things for a certain area and follow the clues to a destination https://www.treasuretrails.co.uk If you have a decent amount of 4G on your phone contact, you can try geocaching. Always good fun and a bit silly! Tag active in East Kilbride is like a kind of assault course thing where you have to try touch your wristband on obstacles to complete them. Decent level of fitness required. There are loads of things in kinning park now - roller disco, inflatable nation, trampoline park, mini golf etc. by jacquetpotato (Thu 4th Nov 2021 2:55pm)
  • And the axe throwing guy! by jacquetpotato (Thu 4th Nov 2021 3:28pm)

  • I think they sent loads of brand new sets to charity shops to sell. I’ve definitely seem them brand new in Barnardos stores. They seem to get a lot of ex-Amazon stuff that’s brand new in original packaging. Could be worth having a look OP by jacquetpotato (Fri 5th Nov 2021 1:56pm)

  • Surely that bit is so close to the junction of Dumbreck road and PRW that any tailbacks out of the drive thru onto the road will cause massive disruption. Especially since the left lane is a bus lane, is it not? by jacquetpotato (Fri 12th Nov 2021 8:39am)

  • Is it maybe the frost setting thing? Usually the heating will still come on if the room drops to a certain temp, to stop the pipes freezing? I think mine is really low (5°c) but maybe your thermostat has changed it to a higher minimum temp? by jacquetpotato (Wed 17th Nov 2021 10:03am)
  • Why don’t you get the train up and spend a few days in and around the city and see what you think? Advice is great but it all comes down to each persons personal preference and what makes an area good for one person might not necessarily be ideal for you. Best way would just be to experience it for yourself. That’s what I’d do anyway :) by jacquetpotato (Wed 17th Nov 2021 2:38pm)
  • I was gonna say Iceland and I’m sure it’s the same company that own food warehouse! by jacquetpotato (Thu 18th Nov 2021 10:15pm)
  • As a kid, I always remember being taken to a shop in kinning park industrial estate called morplan. I think it mainly supplied decorations and things to shops and hotels etc but the general public could purchase stuff too. It was up in an attic and always had the most amazing seasonal displays and felt so magical (the way silverbirch is for people nowadays). No idea what it’s like now but I have such vivid memories of it. I really wanna go check it out now!! by jacquetpotato (Fri 19th Nov 2021 10:28pm)

  • Are you 100% sure it’s not something you can fix yourself first? I dunno how much experience you have with heating systems but sometimes when the temperature drops, pipes freeze a little and boilers can lose pressure. It might just need topped up a little. You can google your boiler make/model and find out how but usually it’s just a little valve you turn till the pressure needle is back in the green zone. by jacquetpotato (Tue 7th Dec 2021 8:42pm)
  • Aw, I’m so glad it was an easy fix and saved you a call out fee. It always seems to happen when the temperature dips significantly. You will remember for next time :) by jacquetpotato (Wed 8th Dec 2021 12:11am)

  • Hopefully they’ve changed things now but my friend tried so hard to rehome a dog a few years ago and it was impossible through sspca or dogs trust because they didn’t have their own garden. Even though they lived 10 steps from the entrance of a park, they wouldn’t entertain them without an enclosed garden. They ended up getting a puppy from a breeder. It seems so silly that there’s so much red tape :( Maybe someone with more recent experience can say if it’s still as strict? by jacquetpotato (Mon 13th Dec 2021 4:57pm)
  • I got one at the start of the month about 3pm on a Friday. Had the negative text when I woke up next morning (they’d sent it at about 6am). With the recent rise in cases, I reckon it would maybe be a bit longer than that though. by jacquetpotato (Wed 15th Dec 2021 7:09pm)

  • Did it ever appear because I got a text saying my package was delivered and signed for by Thornly. There was a pic of someone else’s house and when I clicked the wee map it was somewhere in the Scottish Borders. When I went back and clicked the original “here’s your tracking” link, it still said it had yet to be delivered and was quite a few stops away. Is it possible the same thing has happened to you and you’ve received someone else’s delivery confirmation by accident? by jacquetpotato (Fri 17th Dec 2021 3:54pm)
  • Unfortunately I’m pretty sure you have to start the 10 days over again from her positive test. One of my work mates has been stuck home for the best part of a month because more and more people in the house (who were negative at first) are now testing positive :( by jacquetpotato (Wed 22nd Dec 2021 2:13pm)
  • You’ll get a positive result for up to 90 days. I don’t think you’re meant to keep testing after your original positive unless you have new symptoms again - you just isolate from the first positive and that’s it. by jacquetpotato (Thu 23rd Dec 2021 1:59pm)
  • Did she have new symptoms or was she just testing to check? You’re not meant to get tested again if you’ve been positive within the last 90 days unless you have new symptoms because old virus cells in your body can still cause a positive result. Hopefully that means she’s ok for Xmas :) by jacquetpotato (Thu 23rd Dec 2021 2:02pm)
  • https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing/test-results/positive-test-result/ it’s about half way down above where it talks about “positive lateral flow results”. I dunno how that would work for required employment testing. I just know you can be positive for ages even if you’re no longer infectious. by jacquetpotato (Thu 23rd Dec 2021 4:03pm)
  • Yeah Christmas always reminds me that nobody actually seems to know me haha. I find presents so awkward. I would rather get nothing. I love to give them though because I tend to make little mental notes of things people say they’d like throughout the year :) by jacquetpotato (Sun 26th Dec 2021 5:01pm)

  • Yup, it’s right next to the collection point for bigger items. It’s definitely located there specifically for idiots like me who bought a ceiling height wardrobe on a whim at 5 minutes to closing time with only a car outside! I think it was £25 no matter the item, that was in 2019! by jacquetpotato (Tue 4th Jan 2022 1:39pm)
  • There’s an app called borrowbox (it’s a green icon) for kindle. It asks you to type the name of your local library and it allows you access to the online ebooks for that council area. That’s what I use and it’s great. Hope that helps :) by jacquetpotato (Wed 5th Jan 2022 10:18pm)
  • Woops, can’t believe I missed that. I could have sworn my tablet was a kindle fire but I just looked it up and it’s just called a fire. Almost like a mini Mandela phenomenon! by jacquetpotato (Thu 6th Jan 2022 1:19pm)
  • No matter what OP, I think it’s time to contact your GP. The best thing to do is tell the whole truth, like you have here, and don’t hold anything back. If that GP doesn’t offer any solutions then ask to speak to another one….or you could self refer yourself to a counselling service. I went through something similar and my GP was amazing. He said he would prescribe tablets in the meantime until I could get a therapy appointment but that tablets alone weren’t a long term solution. I was added to the list for CBT and got a call fairly quickly (although I had a young child under 2 at the time so I think moved me up the priority list). The sessions were over the phone, once per week but that was in the height of lockdown so perhaps it’ll be in person now? You could call breathing space if you feel like life is getting on top of you https://breathingspace.scot - sometimes it can help a little just to get things off your chest! Just don’t give up. Things can get better :) by jacquetpotato (Thu 6th Jan 2022 1:40pm)
  • I’m sorry that’s been your experience but please don’t put OP off getting help of their own. by jacquetpotato (Thu 6th Jan 2022 1:45pm)
  • Not really, because it might put them off trying altogether. At least you now have medication. OP has absolutely nothing as it stands. They need encouragement :) by jacquetpotato (Thu 6th Jan 2022 2:01pm)
  • I’m sure last year (or maybe the year before) there was a massive push for people to retrain as school home economics teachers. I’m sure the government were actually giving people a £20,000 bursary towards the courses. Might be worth looking to see if that’s still a thing….if that interests you? by jacquetpotato (Fri 7th Jan 2022 1:13pm)

  • Apparently half the couriers these days think a doorstep is a “safe place”. Fed up reporting my Hermes driver for it and he keeps doing it. • I’m sure I saw something recently about the future plans being to create more housing and activities in the city centre. Lots of new mini golf, bowling places etc opening. Need something to attract people since shops alone aren’t enough anymore. I guess the general feel of shoppers is, why would I walk about in the rain when I could shop under cover at Braehead, silverburn, the forge etc with plenty free parking. by jacquetpotato (Wed 19th Jan 2022 10:06am)

  • Honestly, I think I would just look into a new car if it was me. Old cars are gonna get taxed heavier and heavier for emissions as time goes on and that’s almost a quarter of what you paid for the car you’re gonna spend to replace the engine. Could you maybe sell the car (for scrap even) and put it towards something new? I know what you’re saying about car prices shooting up, the car I wanted was 8k at the start of 2021 and I ended up having to pay near enough 13k for it by the end of summer but it also meant I got a cracking price for my last car when I sold it. Hang in and keep checking round all the garages for 7 seaters. I reckon you can find something for less than 17k :) by jacquetpotato (Thu 20th Jan 2022 9:30am)

  • I’ve had loads of people order a white coffee and mean a flat white so I also double check as well. by jacquetpotato (Thu 27th Jan 2022 1:08pm)
  • Not disagreeing with that. Simply replying to the previous commenter who thinks someone ordering a white coffee has no idea about the existence of lattes. People get their coffees mixed up a lot- I ’m never a wank about it. Just always like to make sure before I waste everyone’s time (and milk) haha by jacquetpotato (Thu 27th Jan 2022 5:30pm)
  • In my opinion, the East Kilbride one is the best now. The toddler area is massive and round a corner from the main frame so there’s no accidents between age groups. The kinning park one is still great but the toddler area there isn’t that big. by jacquetpotato (Fri 28th Jan 2022 4:07pm)
  • Amusement park wise I guess there’s only really M&Ds in Motherwell but I can’t imagine toddlers would get on many rides. There are a bunch of soft plays, trampoline parks, role play cafes and arcades dotted about Glasgow (kinning park has loads of stuff, fun street at silverburn, child’s play cafe Renfrew, Xsite at Braehead). by jacquetpotato (Fri 28th Jan 2022 4:09pm)
  • Steak and cherry used to do amazing milkshakes when they were still up the close across from garage…but it’s hard to tell if that’s because they were usually consumed at 4am after a few gallons of vodka haha. by jacquetpotato (Sat 29th Jan 2022 10:27am)

  • Yeah, I don’t get it either. I’ve never heard a helicopter fly past or fireworks go off and think “but I HAVE to know whyyy!” by jacquetpotato (Tue 1st Feb 2022 1:05pm)
  • I feel like a lot of nurseries are just using this all as an excuse to get rid of kids for an easy life now. A slightly elevated temperature, a runny nappy, a snotty nose? “Oh you’ll need to come pick them up”. I swear I’ve been paying hundreds of pounds for half the amount of childcare this past year. Sorry, had to rant there haha. by jacquetpotato (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 11:15am)
  • Mate, kids under 2 get up to 12 colds a year. It’s part of developing an immune system. It was never an issue before all this pandemic stuff. I would never send mine in if they were really ill and have voluntarily kept them off for a week at a time when they’ve had particularly bad colds etc but to be called once a week for trivial things makes childcare provision pointless! Especially when you have to leave work early and get home to find there’s absolutely nothing wrong with them. It’s frustrating. by jacquetpotato (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 11:40am)
  • I can see it from both sides but there’s a difference between erring on the side of caution and just a complete lack of common sense. Demanding a toddler get a pcr after a runny nappy is just so OTT to me. Constant PCR’s are traumatic for little kids who can’t understand what’s happening and it’s awful for parents having to subject them to the process over and over. Nursery places cost an absolute fortune. People pay hundreds of pounds per month for childcare so that they are still able to work. You expect kids to get sent home on the odd occasion but it’s constant at the moment. When I called in recently to say I was keeping mine off because they had the cold, the response was “oh we’ll be having an easy day then”. Of course it was probably a joke but that’s how it feels right now. Losing pay due to waiting on a PCR result is the same no matter what industry you work in. It’s exactly what the nurseries expect me to do every time I get that dreaded phone call. Unfortunately, I’m not able to send customers home from my work for having a runny nose… by jacquetpotato (Wed 2nd Feb 2022 1:45pm)
  • When I moved into my house it was all set up for virgin but I didn’t think it was that good. They kept throttling the connection and whatever Netflix show I was steaming would freeze half way through and I’d need to reset the box. Changed to bt (although the guy had to come drill a new hole through the house wall to connect it up) but never had a problem with it since. I honestly think it depends on where you live though since most people rave about virgin but it didn’t work for me :) by jacquetpotato (Thu 3rd Feb 2022 5:03pm)
  • My dad always talks about how they only got one bath per week (50s/60s) and all the siblings used the same water. The last in was basically washing in lukewarm dirt haha. by jacquetpotato (Thu 3rd Feb 2022 5:08pm)

  • Personally, I would probably live in the southside. I used to cycle to the royal infirmary from the southside and it was really quick (over the squinty bridge and along the Clyde side cycle path). You could easily cycle to the QUEH from southside too so it gives you the option to work at either. Anywhere near the Paisley road west and you’ll have access to great transport links and a variety of shops (Aldi, 24hr Asda, Morrison’s etc). Cycle through the Clyde tunnel and you’re in the west end. Lots of good parks in the south as well; bellahouston, Pollok park, Queen’s Park if you enjoy being outdoors. I am not bashing the east end in any way, I honestly don’t know it that well but the south side is just well connected in my opinion :) by jacquetpotato (Thu 10th Mar 2022 4:47pm)

Went to my local police station and they said they didn’t have any kind of lost property database and I’d just have to go into all the police stations it could have been handed in to. WTF! Anyway, similar to you, whoever found them noticed a Glasgow club membership fob on the keys and handed them into Kelvin Hall who contacted me and I got them back :) Police system is useless! by jacquetpotato (Fri 25th Mar 2022 11:35am)

  • Kelvingrove museum has lots of animals and things that kids like looking at. The transport museum is better for slightly older kids in my opinion but the tall ship next to it on the river does toddler play sessions on Thursdays which is free. On dry days, just going to a park you’ve never been to before is always a hit. Doesn’t always have to be a play park, toddlers will love walking through the woods looking for birds and insects or feeding some ducks in a pond. Tollcross park has a little zoo, Pollok park has highlands cows, rouken Glen park has a waterfall etc. https://instagram.com/whatsonforthekids and https://instagram.com/glasgowwithkids are really good pages for ideas in and around Glasgow. by jacquetpotato (Sun 8th May 2022 12:48pm)
  • What about Boom battle bar in St Enoch? I think there’s a few options for activities in there and, as far as I’m aware, it’s not over 18s only. There’s jungle rumble mini golf on bath street with a choice of two courses (or do both). There’s a bowling alley called Vega at the top floor of Yotel (next to central station) that’s meant to be decent with good views. If you don’t mind travelling slightly outside the dirt centre then there’s a whole bunch of stuff at kinning park - roller disco, trampoline park, mini golf, inflatanation etc by jacquetpotato (Mon 9th May 2022 5:47pm)

  • Kelvingrove art gallery in the west end is good for kids (lots of stuffed animals) and there’s a play park right across the road and lots of cafes etc nearby. Lots of places do toddler only sessions during the week. I know Inflatanation in kinning park do. There’s also a soft play right next to it called wonderworld if you prefer with a reasonably sized peppa pig bit specifically for toddlers . Theres a trampoline park in the same block as well. Flip out is a huge trampoline place in the east end which has a mini soft play bit, helter skelter and inflatables. They do a mini flipper sessions too for toddlers! If it’s a nice day, you could just check out one of the huge amounts of parks in and around the city. Most have access to a cafe and toilets, and a good few have duck ponds! Remember next Thursday/Friday are bank holidays for the jubilee and everywhere will probably be busier than usual which is why I mentioned toddler only sessions :) by jacquetpotato (Fri 27th May 2022 4:28pm)

There are arcades, bowling, trampoline park, indoor ski slope, restaurants, mini golf, pool tables etc. Might be a good place to find both ages something fun? In city centre you’ve got jungle rumble mini golf, boom battle bar in St Enoch and there’s a VR gaming place down at the gallowgate end. • I’d 100% love to see the building being used again, lush was just the one of the last names I thought I’d see in such a huge place so it took me by surprise….but good luck to them if they can make it work :) Just need someone to take that kind of interest in Sauchiehall street now…. by jacquetpotato (Wed 20th Jul 2022 10:32am)

  • Something similar happened to my mum a while back. Had a chest infection that was getting worse instead of better, receptionist all high and mighty said it didn’t warrant a doctors visit and just to wait. Over the weekend it got so bad she ended up in hospital with pneumonia! So instead of a quick 10 minute GP appointment and some strong antibiotics, she ended up taking up a hospital bed for over a week in the QUEH. In what world does that make sense? by jacquetpotato (Thu 28th Jul 2022 10:30am)

  • I wonder if you’ve unknowingly parked in a space that someone nearby considers “theirs”. People get so territorial about spaces outside their house even if it’s not an assigned bay! Some people are also just arseholes and would do it for a laugh, oblivious to the cost of repairing these things. It’s why I try not to care too much about my car anymore :( by jacquetpotato (Sun 31st Jul 2022 9:52am)
  • Someone I know who went on the Friday was offered a bunch of comp tickets for last night. They were obviously trying to beef up the crowd even if it meant letting a bunch of folk in for free! by jacquetpotato (Mon 1st Aug 2022 10:46am)

I would honestly call or email the studio and ask for some advice, they know their stuff :) I’ve had pretty painless tattoos and also some really nippy ones but you always manage to get through it and the endorphin buzz when it’s all finished is unbeatable haha you’ll be fine! by jacquetpotato (Fri 5th Aug 2022 9:45am)

  • I think it’s only £27-32 if you buy it on the day. You can buy an open return on the ScotRail app for about £14. I was shocked when people told me the prices recently when they went to the fringe but the pre-booking defo seems to be a lot cheaper! by jacquetpotato (Fri 12th Aug 2022 4:03pm)
  • Has anyone been summoned for jury duty recently and actually had to go in to court/odeon? I know a bunch of people who’ve had a letter recently (myself included) who have had to phone in each day, told we’re not needed and then at the end of the week told not to bother at all. I wonder what’s happening (or not happening) ha. by jacquetpotato (Fri 12th Aug 2022 4:02pm)
  • There was a mini funfair outside the riverside museum for the school holidays but not sure if it’s still there. • I am so thankful we were offered a place at a council nursery after thinking we would need to go private. The price difference is insane. We pay just under £300 a month for 2.5 days per week and I’d hate to think what we would have been paying for the same thing at the private place. It’s a total lottery too, we’re just lucky we were flexible with the hours we were allocated and ended up with days most people don’t want! by jacquetpotato (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 12:23pm)
  • When you’re 3, you get a funded nursery place but you can get a paid place at any time. My wee one has been in a council nursery paid place since one year old by jacquetpotato (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 2:51pm)

  • I had a nightmare recently with busses when I went to meet a pal for a few drinks. Bus on the way there didn’t show up and waited 30 mins for the next one, driver went the wrong route so I had to walk for 20 mins to the pub it usually stops outside. On the way back, no bus showed up again and I waited an hour for the very last bus. Asked the driver what the fuck was going on and he said they were short of drivers so they were only doing one bus every hour….WELL WHY THE HELL ARE ALL BUS TIMES STILL SHOWING ON THE APP AND LIVE TRACKER! by jacquetpotato (Wed 24th Aug 2022 4:11pm)

  • I’m sure when silverburn first opened, half the shops said they’d only sign up if they didn’t have cheaper shops like primark etc. It’s why McDonalds is hidden round the outside. • Happened to me recently with McGills. Questioned the driver about it when he eventually showed up an hour later and he said he was the only driver on the route so the bus only arrived every hour instead of every half hour. Clearly the bus companies know this but don’t take the other services off the app. Emailed a complaint but, as expected, they couldn’t give a shit. How can anyone be expected to give up their car and rely on public transport when the service is so shockingly bad? by jacquetpotato (Sat 10th Sep 2022 9:11pm)
  • Merchant square usually have a wee craft fair on at weekends https://www.whatsonglasgow.co.uk/event/003466-merchant-square-craft-&-design-fair/ I’m sure the SEC usually have bigger ones every so often but dunno how to get involved. So we had a wee list to choose from today :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 19th Sep 2022 11:34am)
  • Don’t know if it’s exactly what you’re looking for but Kelburn country park at Largs always do a really good Halloween event. I got chased down a hill by a hillbilly with a chainsaw the last time I went. It’s a bit of a drive but work it I reckon. I know M&Ds theme park in Motherwell usually do something similar but more like a small indoor thing. by jacquetpotato (Tue 20th Sep 2022 12:23pm)
  • There are a bunch of self service laundrettes at petrol stations around the city, if that works for you? https://www.revolution-laundry.com/en-uk/ by jacquetpotato (Wed 21st Sep 2022 6:45pm)
  • Golf fang, vega bowling at the top of Yotel, boom battle bar (axe throwing, pool etc) and level x (VR arena, mini golf, bowling, arcade) are both in st Enoch centre now, NQ64 retro arcade with cocktails, lots of stuff at kinning park like roller skate rink, inflatable place, trampoline park. Could go to xsite at Braehead with indoor snow slope, arcades, bowling, laser tag, trampoline park, cinema but a bit further out from city centre. by jacquetpotato (Tue 27th Sep 2022 8:45pm)
  • I checked train prices from my local station to the city centre last week and I was getting results for £8 return (£16 for first train of the day). I swear it was more like £4 a few months ago… by jacquetpotato (Tue 11th Oct 2022 9:28am)
  • Aw well, that would sense then. It’s a pity because the train station is about a 20-30 min walk from my house and I’d do that for a £4 return but all that walking to be charged almost a tenner anyway kinda just makes me wanna say “fuck it” and take the car… by jacquetpotato (Tue 11th Oct 2022 12:20pm)
  • What side of the city do you live? I know some hotels do memberships to use their leisure facilities. Glasgow club is £3 a swim so you would probably be better getting the basic £15 per month membership if you go a lot, even if you don’t use the gym. by jacquetpotato (Thu 13th Oct 2022 7:12am)
  • I think norovirus only tends to last a few days so if it’s been going on for weeks, I’d say it’s most likely something else. You could talk to a pharmacist at your local chemist if you don’t want to ring the gp :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 17th Oct 2022 8:20am)
  • I’m sure that by law now, any cafe, restaurant or takeaway with more than 250 members of staff has to display calorie information (or have it available) but I suppose that does rule out a lot of smaller, independent places. I totally get the arguments for and against this, but it’s so hard to eat out with friends when you’re following a calorie controlled diet :( by jacquetpotato (Thu 20th Oct 2022 11:50am)
  • I think there’s usually an ice rink and some circus type shows on during the Christmas period. Other than that just the usual stalls, rides, santa, maze etc. The people that pulled out of hosting it apparently wanted to do a zip line down the length of George street but “couldn’t follow through with their commitments” so it’s probably just back to the same 5 stalls over and over again unfortunately. by jacquetpotato (Mon 24th Oct 2022 12:37pm)

  • Inflatanation down at kinning park do toddler only sessions during the week and so do some of the trampoline parks like gravity at Braehead. The tall ship does toddler sessions on board and downstairs out of the rain (and you could go into the transport museum while you’re there). There’s bookbug at the libraries where you sing nursery rhymes and stuff. Most Glasgow clubs do kids gymnastics sessions in an open play style for a few quid. There’s dumbreck play barn in Pollok park which is sort of half under cover during bad weather. There’s a cute wee place in Renfrew called play cafe that’s like a little indoor role play street, something a little different to the usual soft play. Other than that, if the rain isn’t too bad then puddlesuit and wellies. I hate it but kids bloody love getting soaked haha by jacquetpotato (Tue 25th Oct 2022 4:54pm)

Depending on how big your head is, Claire’s accessories have stuff haha as a last resort. • “If you’ve been unable to get to the bottom of an increase in our usage by locating a greedy appliance, the next step would be to carry out an initial check on the accuracy of the meter with a ‘Creep Test’. To carry this out: turn off the power to your fuse box and check if the meter continues to clock. If the meter clocks (more than 1 - 2 units which could be down to residual power in the wires) then it's either faulty, or clocking someone else’s usage. If your meter is in a communal meter cupboard, sometimes the meter details can get mixed up. Firstly it’s worth checking the meter serial number on the meter matches the serial number registered on your account.” I think if there’s an issue with your meter then you can call out an engineer out. It costs to arrange the call out but if they agree that there’s an issue, they will reimburse the fee. Seems more than likely it’s just the price increase though :( by jacquetpotato (Sun 11th Dec 2022 8:39pm)

  • The very last time I went out for new year, few years ago now, we went to the Ashton Lane street party. It was fine at first, managed to get a table in Brel but then suddenly the place was just packed like sardines. Couldn’t move in the lane, couldn’t get anywhere near any of the bars. It was horrendous. Took ages to get a taxi and cost a fortune to get home. I hated every single minute of it after the first hour. I get that these places want to make as much money as possible but if they would just sell slightly less tickets, it would be far more enjoyable. Ever since then, I’ve gladly sat NYE out! by jacquetpotato (Tue 27th Dec 2022 10:28am)

  • There’s a games place on union street called Geek Retreat that do tabletop games but I think they’re locating to a bigger place in the St Enoch centre so might want to check if they’re open. If you prefer sort of arcade bars/cafes there’s Super Bario, R-cade and NQ64. GFT is an independent cinema at the top of town that show a bigger variety of movies than standard blockbuster cinemas. Might be worth having a look if you’re into films. Go check out all the museums around the city, they’re all free; kelvingrove and riverside museum in the west, peoples palace (if it’s open) at Glasgow green, Burrell collection in Pollok park in the southside, police museum and kinetic theatre in the city centre as well as GOMA and the lighthouse (again, not sure if this one is open again yet). On dry days, go check out the parks. There’s are looooads in and around Glasgow, too many to list but you can search online and make yourself a little list. With Glasgow being a big city, I reckon there will be groups and meet ups for most hobbies if you search online. Good luck and enjoy Glasgow :) by jacquetpotato (Fri 6th Jan 2023 11:54am)

  • Sorry but I’ve never known that to be the procedure for vending machines or third party appliances anywhere I’ve ever been or worked, it’s always “phone the number on the machine”. I think you’re just gonna have to accept defeat on this one. Either go back and leave your details or just don’t go back there and vote with your feet. It’s sucks but at least it was only £2. by jacquetpotato (Thu 26th Jan 2023 8:00am)
  • You’re honestly just being deliberately pedantic. Its THIS persons local shop. It’s only been a dessert lab for a few years. It’s been a shop with a petrol station for literal decades. It was Mace and just “food store” long before it was ever Tubees. Why does it bother you so much that someone is unhappy that THEIR local store, where they used to be able to grab a few messages in 2 minutes, is now taking half an hour due to a rebrand? I don’t think it’s that unreasonable for them to have a rant about that. Jeezo! by jacquetpotato (Thu 26th Jan 2023 8:17am)
  • Yeah but surely you know what they meant and now you’re just splitting hairs. Of course they didn’t mean physically stopped from entering, they meant locals have been put off using it, because it’s now marketed in a way that’s more in favour of everyone else coming from miles round for slush. Everyone on this thread understood that except you… People always exaggerate when they’re ranting. Jeezo. Is this your business or something? You’re taking it so personally! Anyway, I think we’ve gone in enough circles for today so let’s agree to disagree! by jacquetpotato (Thu 26th Jan 2023 8:55am)

  • They say no parking between 2am and 4am which is obviously to stop people leaving cars there while on holiday but I dunno if they enforce it. I just remember the signage! Edit. Turns out there’s another park and ride round the corner at Hermiston gate (I assumed it was the Ingliston) where you can park for up to 3 days. Definitely handy to know :) by jacquetpotato (Sun 5th Feb 2023 12:06pm)

  • There are loads of good places to visit for gamers in the city centre; geek retreat just moved in to a new shop which is much bigger (and judging by what I’ve read previously, hopefully less smelly haha), there’s R-cade near Glasgow green, level-x in St Enoch centre which has a big arcade and a VR arena. Super Bario and NQ64 are both over 18s only I think so you can rule those out. As for gigs, I think a lot of places are 14 and over with an adult but you’d maybe need to check the individual rules for each venue (maybe down to licensing laws like you said). https://www.whatsonglasgow.co.uk/events/ good website for checking what’s on in the city on specific dates. https://www.gigsinscotland.com/gigs/by-date for finding live music by jacquetpotato (Tue 7th Feb 2023 9:42pm)

  • Does it have to be train? Busses are a pain in the hoop but a mcgills weekly or monthly ticket might work out a little cheaper if you need to save cash. I know the 38 goes from Paisley to Glasgow and there are a few quicker busses that go on the motorway from what I can remember (x21 or something). Busses have just been a little unreliable recently so I would defo use the live tracker on the app. If the bus isn’t on the screen, you can assume it’s no comin! They’ve had lots of input down there with the industrial estate getting the soft play, climbing centre, roller skating and all that….but down nearer Cessnock and Ibrox it’s still stuck in the past. Run down, huge fly tipping issue etc. by jacquetpotato (Sat 25th Feb 2023 8:58am)

  • You’ve probably parked in a space that someone thinks is theirs, even though it’s a public road. People get so territorial about this stuff. My street is the same, people try and cone off spaces outside their house so people can’t park there and nobody wants to be the person to move it incase their car gets damaged. Infuriating. by jacquetpotato (Sun 19th Mar 2023 11:56am)
  • Yeah but it’s vehicles that grind away the road and make the tiny cracks bigger. It’s why in areas next to bus stops, where heavy busses turn their wheels to get in and out, the craters are huge. There’s definitely got to be a correlation! by jacquetpotato (Mon 20th Mar 2023 7:44am)

Nobody wants you to live a “bland life”, they just don’t want to be woken up by people revving the tits off their engine at 2am in residential areas. Is that unreasonable? Don’t think so. You seem to be taking offence on behalf of every car enthusiast in Scotland. I like hill walking but would I fuck be defending the other walkers that leave rubbish everywhere and make a mess. • There’s a bunch of stuff in St Enoch centre now. Level x has a VR arena, bowling, arcades etc. and a boom battle bar has pool, beer pong, axe throwing etc. There’s jungle rumble mini golf in town, bowlarama, bowling at the top floor of yotel (called vega) and then you’ve got the huge golf fang mini golf along towards the hydro. At kinning park there’s an inflatables place that sometimes do adult sessions, roller disco, trampoline park and that fayre play place with little carnival style games. Across from there you’ve for the quay with hotshots bowling (or whatever they’re calling that now). Further outside the city you’ve got Soar at Braehead with cinema, bowling, pool, arcades, laser quest, restaurants, bars. I don’t really know the north or east of the city, sorry, but I’m sure there’s stuff there too. Top golf? by jacquetpotato (Tue 27th Jun 2023 10:51am)
  • They posted a photo on their Instagram in the last few days of people watching a movie in in front of the big screen and they all had umbrellas. Maybe they’ve got them there to give out or maybe they’re making an exception since it’s so wet. • Kelvinhall in west end and palace of art in bellahouston park southside both do pay as you go play gym (Glasgow club). As far as I’m aware, there’s not much in the city centre but there’s a restaurant on queen street called Mikaku that has a free softplay in it for diners. Kinning park is close to city centre and there’s a bunch of stuff to choose from there; soft play, roller skating, inflatable, trampoline park. by jacquetpotato (Tue 18th Jul 2023 12:52pm)

  • My local company has an app which gives you a quote for the ride and lets you pay in advance with Apple Pay. I much prefer that. Means the driver doesn’t fuck about trying to take longer routes and there’s none of this “card machine not working” stuff. No offence to any taxi drivers on here, I’m sure there’s some decent ones out there, but that’s just always been my experience in Glasgow taxis. by jacquetpotato (Tue 29th Aug 2023 11:42am)
  • Glasgo cabs app (merger of hampden cars and Glasgow private hire) let’s you do it but I always use Eastwood Mearns app (even though I don’t live in the Mearns) because they’ve always been reliable and the app is decent. It shows you the car on a map on its way to pick you up once a driver has been assigned to your job, so you can see how far away it is. by jacquetpotato (Tue 29th Aug 2023 10:40pm)
  • I think they mean if there’s already someone on with a dog, they wouldn’t let another dog on because they don’t know each other and there might be aggression but if one person had two dogs, it’s fine because they already get along. That’s my understanding of what they meant. by jacquetpotato (Sun 3rd Sep 2023 8:20am)
  • Definitely go check out Pollok park and the Burrell. There are highland cows in the park and the Burrell just won a museum of the year award 2023. It’s just a really lovely park to have a walk around too! Pollok house is very photogenic and there are some amazing flower gardens around it :) by jacquetpotato (Sun 10th Sep 2023 8:22am)
  • I’ve honestly never seen anyone do that before and I actually had to street view that bit to see what you were talking about. When I saw the tiny gap they’d have to drive through, it reminded me of that narrow street down south somewhere where people constantly fuck it https://youtu.be/tQ7YkL3jIvw?si=Y28vyC3ndgbbpW60 by jacquetpotato (Sun 10th Sep 2023 8:43am)
  • I might be talking shite but I’m so sure a driver once told me that all a pre-booking does is put the job into the system like 10 mins before your pick up time as if you’d just phoned it in. It doesn’t actually ensure someone has your job way in advance. Useless!! by jacquetpotato (Sat 16th Sep 2023 11:08am)
  • Got sold many a dodgy PlayStation game down there that never worked! by jacquetpotato (Thu 21st Sep 2023 3:19pm)
  • Primark have fleece lined tights and fleece lined leggings! by jacquetpotato (Sat 23rd Sep 2023 9:45pm)
  • Yes! Came here to say that. It was up so high on the little hill with stairs, we used to call it the sleepy hollow tree. Lots of lovely childhood memories for me too but that last time I saw it, it had loads of tape round it so I’m not surprised it’s gone :( by jacquetpotato (Fri 29th Sep 2023 12:28am)
  • What sort of ages are the kids? Could you do something like level x? Bowling, Vr arena, arcades, mini golf and a bar with drinks. I dunno if it the sort of place you could book out, and you’d have to watch your own kids but could be worth emailing them? https://levelx.co.uk It actually says “for groups larger than 30, please email” by jacquetpotato (Wed 4th Oct 2023 10:21am)
  • I would happily pay the membership if it meant parking was free, is that a thing? I was £7.50 to park at the riverside museum recently which is just horrendous considering there’s not really much in the way of public transport options from the southside! by jacquetpotato (Thu 5th Oct 2023 11:57am)
  • They’ve honestly been saying that since about 2009, but it’s finally underway. They’ve cleared loads of trees from the walkway round the golf course at the river. Almost looks like you’ll have to drive through the retail park next to the Normandy hotel to access it but not 100% sure by jacquetpotato (Sat 14th Oct 2023 4:55pm)
  • Owned by the same guy. by jacquetpotato (Mon 16th Oct 2023 8:19am)
  • Eh? I don’t understand the reference. Do Cathouse ban ex-staff entry for 6 months if they quit their job? by jacquetpotato (Mon 16th Oct 2023 11:45am)
  • Yes but you can still do deals as long as they’re for 4 consecutive days which is why you get half price or 2-4-1 cocktails Monday to Thursday and stuff like that. It doesn’t need to be a happy hour to get discounted drinks. In saying that, I don’t really know Finnieston well so I can’t make any recommendations but you can defo get drinks deals on Thursdays :) by jacquetpotato (Thu 19th Oct 2023 3:33pm)
  • At no point did OP ask for happy hour though…. by jacquetpotato (Thu 19th Oct 2023 5:07pm)
  • Aye but they clearly didn’t mean drinks promos specific to Thursday afternoons. They mean do promos exist on the date and time they’ll be out which applies to any midweek deals. I don’t get why it’s so hard to understand or why you’re getting so raj about it? by jacquetpotato (Thu 19th Oct 2023 6:38pm)
  • Level x or boom battle bar in st Enoch centre? Level x probably a bit better for that age; huge arcade and vr arena but it’s not cheap Depending on whether you can drive, there’s the Xscape/Soar centre up at Braehead. Arcades, bowling, pool, laser quest, trampoline park, mini golf, cinema and restaurants etc by jacquetpotato (Sun 22nd Oct 2023 1:00pm)
  • There’s also a mini decathlon inside silverburn Tesco now if southside is easier for them. It’s lot smaller than Braehead but OP can always do a stock check for that store if they know what they want :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 23rd Oct 2023 12:29pm)
  • I love looking at old primary school joined up writing in pencil. As soon as everyone went to high school, it was ball point pen and the joining up was swiftly patched haha. Nice throwback :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 23rd Oct 2023 12:26pm)
  • It’s only on until November 2nd or 3rd so you’d need to think about going sooner rather than later but enchanted forest is original and best in my mind. I went in 2014 and still think about it now :) by jacquetpotato (Tue 24th Oct 2023 12:48pm)
  • Surely tam shepherds on queen street in town? Queen street in general, there’s usually a pop up Halloween shop of some sort on that street :) by jacquetpotato (Mon 30th Oct 2023 12:41pm)
  • Riverside museum do ASD friendly sessions, I think on Fridays. by jacquetpotato (Wed 1st Nov 2023 7:59pm)
  • Honestly mate, it’s all about calories in vs calories out. You can still have the things you enjoy just don’t rip the arse out of it. Get a 6 inch instead of a foot long, maybe skip the cheese, load up on the salad and get a lower calorie dressing. The good thing about subway is that you can see all the nutritional info and calories on their website (if you’re keeping track). Small changes make a big difference when you’re first starting out. Good luck :) by jacquetpotato (Wed 1st Nov 2023 10:50pm)
  • I was in silverburn earlier and there were crazy amounts of security people patrolling about in the centre, in the car park and standing at the all the entrances. I got the feeling this was why. by jacquetpotato (Fri 3rd Nov 2023 7:23pm)
  • Martin Lewis (first link) said that hsbc is giving people £125 to open a certain type of account before midnight on Monday. You just need to add £1500 then make 5 debit card payments for the month. He said you can add £500, remove it and add it 2 more times and that counts as the £1500. Seems far too much hassle for me but if OP wants to open an account anyway it would probably be worth it. by jacquetpotato (Sat 4th Nov 2023 3:11pm)
  • Still got one in Edinburgh, complete with monster sitting up at midnight. by jacquetpotato (Thu 9th Nov 2023 8:54am)

  • Possibly actually, I just remember there being a midnight show thing in the Glasgow one but I’m maybe just misremembering by jacquetpotato (Thu 9th Nov 2023 4:36pm)
  • A woman’s body was pulled out the river Kelvin a few hours ago. I think it’s the woman who fell into the water a week or two ago because they never found her. by jacquetpotato (Fri 10th Nov 2023 6:39pm)

  • I know you didn’t mention history but historic Scotland are offering free entry on Sundays to a bunch of their attractions. Stirling and Edinburgh castle are usually £15-20 each to visit so it’s a really good offer if you want to get a feel for some of Scottish history. There are also sites closer to Glasgow, I just used those two as an example because they’re the most expensive https://www.historicenvironment.scot/about-us/news/some-of-scotland-s-most-iconic-heritage-sites-set-to-offer-free-admission-this-winter/ :) by jacquetpotato (Sun 12th Nov 2023 3:11pm)
  • I hate when places like this basically serve food with the lights off. I wanna see what I’m eating. I get it’s a vibe but it’s so bloody dark down there in the basement. by jacquetpotato (Sun 19th Nov 2023 12:33pm)
  • What about the gin spa in town? I’ve never actually been but it looks fancy https://www.ginspa.co.uk by jacquetpotato (Mon 20th Nov 2023 3:39pm)
  • I definitely know the southside way better than the north. Managed to remember 13 so I’ll take that! by jacquetpotato (Fri 24th Nov 2023 12:37pm)
  • A Christmas dinner on Christmas Day, or just Christmas food in the lead up? Because obviously not everywhere will be open on Xmas day so just checking :) by jacquetpotato (Sat 25th Nov 2023 10:06am)
  • Found an article; “Bamboo, Savoy, Sub Club, Polo Lounge, AXM, The Cathouse, The Garage, Tropicana & Vogue, Kokomo and the Berkeley Suite can continue to stay open later.” by jacquetpotato (Fri 1st Dec 2023 2:23am)
  • I’m sure back in October, a bunch of Glasgow nightclubs were granted 4am licences but I dunno it that means they’re always open till 4am or they just have the option for special occasions. by jacquetpotato (Fri 1st Dec 2023 2:21am)
