  • Wouldn't say thats an actual response at all. Its arguably worse than # sorry not sorry, to quote /u/davy-the-tinker. At least the latter would acknowledge wrongdoing. He's essentially said "Yes we'll own up to all the stuff that isn't shady, such as interviewing candidates and providing transport, though I actually can't confirm the last bit. I'll get my guys to check it (I won't) and get back to you all (I won't). HOWEVER, I won't be making any comments on the shady stuff, such as ghosting applicants, stealing their work and giving them zero credit or compensation for their work". The dude is trying to appear like he's clarifying matters and engaging with the accusations. In fact, he's saying as little as he can to stop further damage of the brand, not to mention side-stepping the real issues to avoid providing evidence for legal action. by Docoe (Sat 8th Jun 2019 2:06am)

  • Why weren't they furloughed? by Docoe (Tue 7th Jul 2020 3:10pm)
  • > Though I guess sucks pretty hard if your job has been shafted 2 months after being allowed to happen again. That's the main point of the protest. Staff and owners would be more than happy to stay home where it is safest, if their financial interests were being met. At the minute, it isn't clear that these needs will be met fully. These needs weren't met during furlough either, with a significant portion of hospitality income being tips which are unaccounted for during furlough. The Gov also didn't protect hospitality employees from predatory employers, many of whom made staff redundant or did other shady stuff to save money. West have already stated their intention to similarly shaft staff over the next 16 days. This protest is not about people wanting a bevvy down the pub, and it's about something way more than this. It's about workers rights and a whole industry just wanting the decency of earlier notice and more clarity in decision-making. Otherwise it would have been a protest carried out by consumers rather than staff. by Docoe (Sat 10th Oct 2020 8:58am)
  • > Heard the guy that owns bucks ranting on the radio saying Sturgeon was treating their industry with more contempt than thatcher did to the miners. I understand the protest, but that comment from the bucks bar guy is ludicrous. by Docoe (Sat 10th Oct 2020 9:09am)
  • I believe the sketchy reasoning they are refering to is the disproportionate targeting of licensed venues, while cafes, gyms and other similarly high risk businesses remain open. Hospitality staff just want to be treated fairly, handed earlier notice and given some financial guarantee. by Docoe (Sat 10th Oct 2020 9:08am)
  • The purpose of the protest wasn't to cause any disturbance to the council or Government, or destroy property. Most of these workers live and work in the city most days - they don't want to wreck the place. The ice achieved what it was intended to achieve, media attention to get a message to Sturgeon, in a peaceful manner. The workers chose this protest because it was inexpensive, not destructive, and symbolic to them. The ice was to symbolise jobs "melting away" and the industry being "put on ice" again, this time for 16 days. The Scottish Licensed Trade Association have predicted 75% of pubs won't survive the pandemic. This means a lot to these people. I'm not saying you feel this way, but I've found it funny how many of the statue guarding brigade have mocked this protest for being pointless because it simply melts away. I really can't tell if people want vandalism at protests or not. by Docoe (Sat 10th Oct 2020 9:23am)
  • I've genuinely seen people calling for the ice to have been donated to food banks, and others complaining this is bad for the environment. The latter point being made completely redundant because the ice was from ice machines being turned off and needing emptied. They didn't make the ice for the event, it was already being to be melted. by Docoe (Sat 10th Oct 2020 9:29am)
  • You're not wrong, but that's only one factor to consider. There might have been more people going to pubs than there will be at house parties, but how much PPE and social distancing will there be at these house parties compared to a pub. All in all, that's what will dictate the spread - not numbers alone. by Docoe (Sat 10th Oct 2020 9:26am)
  • No one is arguing the numbers in attendance will be fractionally close. Neither you or I are qualified to say whether virus transmission numbers will be close, and I think people have a right to be worried that regulated drinking will be replaced by unregulated drinking. by Docoe (Sat 10th Oct 2020 9:39am)
  • > During the lockdown there were those who claimed it would be worse because people would just congregate in house parties. These are two different measures and not comparable. Lockdown mitigates mostly all circumstances for the virus to spread exponentially. Closing pubs mitigates a singular cause. House parties are also a singular cause. With this in mind, it was unreasonable to question whether full scale lockdown would lead to more infections because of house parties. It's reasonable to compare and contrast two singular matters and ask whether house parties will cause more infection than pubs, particularly when tackling one might be catalytic to the other. by Docoe (Sat 10th Oct 2020 11:16am)
  • This is staff, not punters. They don't give a shit about not being able to have a pint, they care about their financial welfare and the lack of clarity provided by the ScotGov. by Docoe (Sun 11th Oct 2020 8:40am)

  • You've missed the point completely. by Docoe (Mon 22nd Mar 2021 12:57pm)
  • I don't agree that's the problem. Makes it sound like the only reason there were problems is because you've let poor people congregate. In reality, these areas suffered not because they were filled with social housing, but because the infrastructure was so poor. No places for leasure, no supermarkets, no green parks, and terrible transport links - which many couldn't afford to use. People were isolated, impoverished and bored. People get themselves in terrible situations in those conditions. Integration into established areas and around decent private property is absolutely the best case scenario, but we shouldn't claim mass council housing complexes can't work. They just weren't done right, and if they were done properly they could be a valuable answer to the housing/homelessness crisis. by Docoe (Thu 6th May 2021 7:24am)
  • I know, my family are from Easterhouse originally. These schemes from around the time were planned and built poorly - and probably were never intended to be built properly. by Docoe (Thu 6th May 2021 1:32pm)
  • Do you mind if I ask why it's impossible? If it's because of your landlord or something, fair enough. If it's a work commitment sort of thing then there are lots of pets that you can get which require very little upkeep. I have a gecko for example. He gets fed every couple of days, and I have a timer for his heat lamp to go on and off each day. They can be interactive with their owner once they are used to you, but also don't mind being left alone as they are solitary. Because they are solitary and also store fats in their tail, they can go weeks without care or food - and it's no issue to them or their health. This is great for me when I go on holiday for a week, any longer and I get someone to care for him. He's going on 15 now, and he's an adorable, colourful old boy. Even everyone who says they don't like reptiles ends up loving him. by Docoe (Mon 21st Jun 2021 9:10am)
  • I'm not on the spectrum, so unfortunately I cannot give any meaningful advice regarding working with autism. I just wanted to say good luck, and suggest that you have a look online for jobs in warehouses and similar capacities. I'm currently in a job where I have very little interaction with the public. As for mentioning that you have autism when applying for jobs, small businesses won't feel as obliged to follow the law and may outright reject you if they are discriminatory against people with autism. Larger businesses will be more likely to give you an interview if you disclose that you have autism in your application, as they are legally required to do so and they have more to lose by discriminating (because bigger companies are more likely to be caught). by Docoe (Fri 23rd Jul 2021 6:14pm)

Obviously for large items like washing machines, you will need to filter by local collection too. Glasgow Barter pages, which is a completely different experience from a Glasgow battering hahaha. If you struggle to find the barter pages let me know and I'll give you more details. If you scan over posts on these pages, you'll figure out how they work pretty quickly. Generally, you can offer most people a bottle of wine for whatever they are offering. I have actually seen people in your scenario post on these groups, asking for any household items that members of the group would be willing to part with for free. Many people in Glasgow have been down on their luck, so people are sympathetic and willing to help. Red Heart Foundation furniture stores are very good, but pricing is hit and miss across the store. Then I heard about citric acid, you can buy it from your local Indian supermarket or from Amazon. It's a non-perishable dry good, and you just dilute it with water before adding it to a cocktail as if it was lemon/lime. If you said the the average Joe "I'm from Tannochside" they wouldn't know what the fuck that is. It feels like an extension of Uddingston. But Viewpark, Baillieston, Bellshill and Bothwell are all proper, recognisable towns with a community and recognised boundaries. • I worked in the bar scene for a long time, so know a few in the industry and frequent a few Glasgow/Edinburgh hospitality Facebook pages. The amount of posts I've seen alerting people to phone/wallet muggings, pickpocketing and scamming has gone through the roof. It was the same two lads most of the time, going by CCTV. They obviously prey on those that are out having a drink. by Docoe (Mon 15th Nov 2021 2:03am)
  • Where was this? A few months back my girlfriend and I had to stop a guy taking a paralytic lassie into a taxi, just outside polo. Similar story too, lassie had lost her pals and her phone was dead. After we got her to her home, the girl shared her number with my girlfriend. She texted the next day to say thanks, and that she has no idea who the guy was. She was just desperate to get home and this sober, middle aged man who was out in Glasgow on his own said he'd get her home in a taxi. I got a dreadful vibe from the guy. I dread to think it was the same man, but this was what I feared would happen to the girl if we hadn't forced him to get out the taxi. by Docoe (Tue 16th Nov 2021 9:11am)
  • I'm well aware that it's not a baby sitting service, seeing as I worked in bars and clubs for 5 fuckin years. Doesn't change the fact that Polo is notorious for their handling of drunk people. If they were so eager to evict drunk people, maybe their bartenders also need trained on when to cut people off so they don't end up in this mess? They're more than happy to facilitate people to get ratarsed, less than happy to deal with the outcome. I've evicted many people from venues, the difference being that I put their well-being first and cut them off before they become paralytic safety risks, and I always evict the group rather than the person as there is safety in numbers. These are often young adults still learning their limits and occasionally fucking it up a bit - that's before we take spiking into the equation. Have you never accidently ended up ratarsed? Bit of compassion for your fellow humans wouldn't go a miss mate, it's only rape we're talking about. by Docoe (Tue 16th Nov 2021 10:09am)
  • It has everything to do with your role as a door supervisor. If you're happy to evicting vulnerable people without assisting them to locate a friend then that's wank behaviour. I get that it's a tough job mate, but don't absolve yourself of responsibility because you'd rather not think about what happens to the people you evict to walk Glasgow alone. I never claimed to be a door supervisor so let's start with that. I bartended venues and often did my own KBs and escorting people off premise, or in venues with door staff I'd cut the patron off and if they refused to leave then that's when people like yourself got involved. We all like a cheap drink, that's also not my point. Cheap drink encourages people to get loose which is totally fine, but as bartenders/door supervisors/license holders or whatever the fuck our involvement is with a venue, it's our responsibility to ensure they don't drink too much while doing so. We're meant to cut people off when they present as drunk, not later when they present as paralytic like Polo do. Despite what the other guy said in this comment chain, part of our job is unfortunately babysitting. Not going to give too much info away online, but I worked in a handful of venues in Glasgow, a few abroad and now I work in the drinks industry. by Docoe (Tue 16th Nov 2021 10:34am)
  • I'm really sorry that happened to your friend. I seen your description of the man in another comment - it's a different guy from the person involved in my experience. by Docoe (Tue 16th Nov 2021 11:07am)
  • Non-cooperative in what sort of way? Seems like you're building a bit specific scenario when I'm simply saying: A) Polo should stop serving people to the point that they can't stand, speak, or keep their eyes open B) If Polo insist on selling them drink until they can't stand, speak, or keep their eyes open, then don't throw them to the curb to fend for themselves. The people I've seen chucked out of Polo often need medical attention they're that vulnerable and comatosed. Polo chuck them out because the only alternative is getting them medical attention, and that would eventually lead to them being shut down for overserving. They're breaking the law, and as license holders they are absolutely responsible for the state their patrons get into - it's part of the contract they sign to be a wet venue. They are partially to blame, as this is a situation they repeatedly enable and have done for years. They put money first and safety second. > remedied this by **trying** not to get myself in such a state. That's great that you learned your lesson. I'm glad you lived to tell the tail, and hopefully your hairy situation didn't involve you getting raped. Unfortunately, some people aren't so lucky and they end up being assaulted before they have an opportunity to learn their lesson like you did. As you said **trying**. It's one thing to try not the get into that situation again, but I'm sure I'm not the only one in this thread that's tried not to get smashed, then the drink hit them more than they expected. Everyone's alcohol tolerance is subject to change based on sleep, food, stress, drinking habits and so on. Part of a licensed venues responsibility is to assist people in avoiding becoming pure fucked and vulnerable. by Docoe (Tue 16th Nov 2021 12:16pm)
  • >Polo can’t know when someone’s going to get completely fucked They can know when you're visibly drunk though, and at that point the law is you cut them off. Obviously clubs aren't about to chuck every drunk person out, law or not, they'd be out of business. Polo just seems to let people get more fucked than elsewhere. It's something you can see for yourself really in Polo if you ever go. Coupled with their intolerance to allowing people to locate their mates as they escort them out, it's a recipe for disaster. >The staff have no way of knowing what sort of state this guy will be in when he steps outside the club. Aye, that's fair mate but I'm not arguing against that at all. If someone is a walking, talking, functioning person then nae harm is caused by the staff. Obviously the fresh air can hit you and you're suddenly out your nut. Bouncers canny predict that, nae foul. But again, we're no talking about that. We're talking about people being bounced on their own. I'm explicitly talking about Polo bouncers that are renowned for being bastards during the kick out. I've got mates and met strangers who after asking were told "no, we can't look for your mate(s) on the way out, you're out". I've even met multiple people that weren't allowed to leave via the cloakroom to get their jacket. Kicked oot the club freezing their tits off. They're ruthless and well-known for being the worst door team in Glasgow. The people I've helped in the past have been papped out absolutely fucked. Walking out Polo would have been a miracle, they canny walk, hardly talk, eyes rolling about, drooling and being sick on themselves. Being a drinker and having worked in bars for 5 years, I can say confidently that someone served those people while they were visibly drunk. They were allowed to overstay their welcome, and were only kicked out when they were at their most vulnerable. by Docoe (Tue 16th Nov 2021 2:57pm)
  • Aye, the law is quite clear and explicit but if clubs followed it they'd be out of business. It would just be nice to see some like Polo take it a little more serious, and cut people off sooner than the choking on vomit stage. They just seem to let people get mangled then don't even pay the courtesy of letting them find their mates while getting escorted out. I've no been in ages, but does Subby still take good care of mangled folk? They always seemed willing to sit you down in a wee area with some water and a pan. by Docoe (Tue 16th Nov 2021 3:01pm)

  • If you're finding it hard to stand out amongst your peers, it usually means your CV doesn't look good enough. Look at Google Docs CV templates and pick whatever one is both slick and has the best format to display the most info on just two pages (I.e. something with a heading column, writing columns for experience, and listing column for your traits/qualities). Again using Google templates, write a cover letter about yourself and all your most transferable skills. Things that would be valuable in any workplace. Cover letters make candidates stand out from all those who never used one. Don't write more than a page, otherwise it's not a cover. Before submitting it for each job, simply edit the company names and job roles each time, tweak little things if need be. This gives the illusion of researching the job and putting effort into the application without actually doing so. As for side hussles, I used to buy cheaply listed phones from gumtree and sell them on eBay. There was a big enough price gap that it made it worthwhile, but you need to account for eBays 10% fee, postage and unfortunately scammers. by Docoe (Mon 21st Feb 2022 2:12am)

  • I wrote that "shitty" response to antagonise you for being a tit for comparing apples and oranges, or in other words, building a strawman argument. The real answer is that it's perfectly possible to establish men-only gyms, and actually legal to open ethnic gyms too, like in your example. As with any gym, they need to have a viable business model. If you think you can establish a successful white-only gym for ~~women~~ white people who have PTSD from their experiences with ~~men~~ other ethnicities, have at it. Do you think there's a demand for this? Given the number of sexual and violent assaults women are subjected to by men, I know what business model is going to be more popular if you make me choose between your example and theirs. by Docoe (Fri 4th Mar 2022 12:14am)
  • You could just read about this rather than be so confidently wrong. The law says you can't have white/black-only gyms because they don't want to be seen to be encouraging Jim Crow laws. However, you can open x-ethnicity only memberships to places such as gyms, i.e. Asian only, African American only and so on. Stupidly though, you could still call the African American only gym something like "Black Gym Club" so long as your seen to make the decision based on ethnic background rather than skin colour. Citizen Advice: > Are there times when people providing goods, facilities or services are allowed to treat you less favourably? Clubs, associations and charities set up especially for people of a particular ethnic or national group are allowed to discriminate in some circumstances. They can discriminate against you because of your nationality or ethnic or national origin. However, they are not allowed to discriminate against you because of your colour. Equality Act: Gov.Uk > Clubs and other associations for people who share a protected characteristic The Act allows private clubs and other associations (except political parties) to restrict membership to people who share protected characteristics. What has changed? The Act maintains the previous exceptions allowing clubs to restrict their membership according to race and sexual orientation and extends it, in line with the extended protection from discrimination, to also cover gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, and sex. by Docoe (Fri 4th Mar 2022 9:22am)
  • > Firstly what the fuck are you talking about African Americans for? This is the UK, not the USA. An example of particular ethnicities that would be allowed to set up exclusive orgs. Did you know African Americans can still live in another country? Believe it or not, people have moved to the UK. Wait until you hear that my other example, Asian people, don't just live in Asia. Mind blowing, I know. >Secondly: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/85018/private-clubs.pdf Yes, I've also read this. It's the first result on Google when you search for any information on the topic we're discussing. Glad you finally decided to read about the point your making rather than talking shit you don't know about. Unfortunately though, you're misunderstanding the gym/club point above. The point the document is making is organisations open to **the public** and operating on **entry fees** cannot discriminate based on ethnicity. They gave gym/club just as an example of some that might operate with daily entry fees rather than memberships. To quote you on something you already mentioned: > Examples of associations include private clubs such as golf and other sports clubs. Private membership gyms operate differently from simple entry fees to members of the public. Many (most now actually) operate as a sports club, charging monthly/yearly membership fees which make the need for entry fees redundant. For those that wish, it also allows them to set regulations which limit the membership to particular protected characteristics (disability, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation). Brings us back to the original point of exactly why places like womens-old gyms are allowed to operate in the UK - restrictive memberships to serve the disadvantaged protected characteristics. by Docoe (Fri 4th Mar 2022 12:39pm)

More students Migration from London after switches from office to home working Sellers market for property atm, meaning many landlords have sold up and there is less rentals with increased demand Inflation rising higher than wage increases, meaning it's a fight for the cheaper housing ____ I took a West End rental at the end of 2019 and handed the keys back last month. I had a decent enough relationship with the landlord so took an active part in helping him find a new tennent (read: I was there for the open house, told people he's not a cunt). He had insane interest, phone ringing off the hook, people saying they'd take it without even viewing, and ultimately he gave it to someone who offered 1yr upfront. It really showed me that even in the space of a year the demand had shot right up, and it was already murder when I found that flat in 2019. by Docoe (Thu 10th Mar 2022 2:22am)
  • > the rest of us (who are definitely not in it for a big payday - who just don't want to sell our places) Tbh mate, I think you're one of the few who isn't in it for the pay day. • Aye, it would be mental of it was someone looking to live her permanent - though others on the thread have mentioned the mental deposits needed to buy atm because of mostly all homes selling above the valuation. In this instance, it was a very wealth (I know she was wealthy because it was one of her sales points "I'm good for it" basically" foreign woman trying to secure the flat for her student child who was going to be moving in there for a few years. by Docoe (Thu 10th Mar 2022 9:09am)

Fair enough, I probably just smelt like booze as I was a bartender at the time. Nae qualms with he man but, did not mind having to go get some chips and cheese hahaha. Cunt was probably in commission with the local food business, with the amount of times he was saying that though. by Docoe (Tue 15th Mar 2022 3:33pm)
  • If you managed 4 months sober on your last attempt, I know you can make the next go at things much longer, and possibly even permanent! If I were you, I'd start the night at The Amsterdam followed by The Absent Ear, both not necessarily LGBTQ+ bars but certainly LGBTQ+ friendly all the same, then head to Katie's Bar for another and maybe a game of pool there. After, head to Riding Room if they have a show on, then downstairs to Polo when it starts to busy up a bit. As someone mentioned the bouncers can be funny in Polo, if you don't get in head to Hide and Seek. It's not a club vibe but it is open until 3. by Docoe (Tue 19th Apr 2022 11:24pm)

I was having a conversation about God knows what, when I was walking by the homeless gent I responded to my pal "I just don't believe them" The guy stood up, yelled out to me, shouted that he'd do me in and told me to fuck off. Nearly fuckin shat myself having no idea what just happened. Took a minute to dawn on me what had all transpired and that he thought I was talking about him. He must have thought I was repeating some of the shitty opinions people have about homeless people, like I don't believe people are really homeless, or maybe that I don't believe they'll use the money for food, etc. by Docoe (Wed 20th Apr 2022 11:04am)
  • Calling them junkies doesn't stop them from shitting in your close or threatening them with knives. Your comment carries the same information if you just call them addicts. If I had a series of bad experiences with people of another race does that mean I can use derogatory racial slurs now by Docoe (Wed 4th May 2022 1:32pm)
  • It's not hard to just say addict, not sure why you insist on using a word that demeans people. Less virtue signalling, more having been raised by a parent that worked in addiction services. Has much the same stories as you have with violence, but definitely tells a different story about their mental capacity. Lots of tears and emotions in those sort of services. Shown your ignorance here mate, but it makes it easier to understand why you refuse to just call them addicts so cheers for that. Wee bit of empathy wouldn't go amiss in your life mate. Might feel better for it. Certainly less angry and reactive i.e. crying someone is a virtue signalling cunt because they think differently from you. Funnily enough addiction is partially rooted in diminished impulse control by Docoe (Wed 4th May 2022 1:56pm)
  • >I see that wee girl every other day and she needs to carry that trauma with her for the rest of her life. The stupidity of your comment is that these are the sort of stories the addicted young women would tell my mum about while going clean. You can say they should have been stronger and not use trauma as an excuse to use, but you can't deny the science shows a correlation between trauma and drug use. If you help the "junkies" you wouldn't pish on, you increase the chance of getting them clean and breaking a cycle that leads to wee girls being threatened with knives. Maybe you'd rather they all died like you said earlier, but wait until I tell you about the correlation between orphaned children and drug abuse. >As far as ignorance goes my comments / feelings are far from the right way to look at it and people like yourself and your mum are doing the right thing but I simply cannot look past my experiences with them . If addicts can simply stop using their experiences as an excuse to use, can't you stop using your experiences as an excuse to be a hateful wee man? by Docoe (Wed 4th May 2022 2:11pm)

  • That's quite the assertion to make from a Reddit post. Nothing against mushrooms, and I know it can be helpful for some. Still, recommending mushrooms to an addict you've never met seems ridiculous and quite irresponsible. You don't know this person or how they would respond to mushrooms. It's also not picking season, so you're effectively recommending an addict gets in touch with a dealer. by Docoe (Mon 23rd May 2022 12:28am)
  • I'm sure I'm not the only one here who has had positive experiences on mushrooms, and still thinks it's barking mad to point an addict you've never met towards them. You're in no position to decide if this guy is in the right place to seek out mushrooms. by Docoe (Mon 23rd May 2022 12:31am)
  • As I said I had a positive experience with mushrooms, so by suggesting their experience could be different are you telling me there is a chance it could impact them negatively? If so, why are you recommending the drug to someone you don't know? Perhaps they could be useful for this person, but randoms on Reddit aren't in a position to tell this guy to take mushrooms. It isn't the issue that mushrooms are addictive, because I know they aren't. But recommending an addict seeks them out when they're out of season could put them in contact with the wrong person. They're at a very vulnerable stage in overcoming addiction and it's reckless to recommend they take mushrooms at a time when it puts them back in the routine of reaching out to dealers. Breaking even the smallest habits like talking with dealers is a huge part of breaking patterns of addiction. by Docoe (Mon 23rd May 2022 12:55pm)

  • Theres not really any proof of that, and it ignores the fact that legally in Scotland you cannot serve someone that is blotto. And by removing one law, that doesn't mean you cant have others in place. Banning off license sales in city centres after 1am would be far better than the sweeping 10pm national rule. • I know they say if you smell shit all day check your own shoes, but I've also noticed an increase in road rage and impoliteness. - Start of my day, I pull up at the lights and see a guy get out his car, chap on another car window and threaten the driver. - Same day I got beeped as soon as the light turned green. I know I hadn't missed the lights changing as I started to accelerate as it was yellow. White van driver who beeped me then overtakes and calls me a wanker. - Again, same day. Woman is towards me at a road that's been significantly narrowed by cones for roadworks. There's still space for two cars to pass side-by-side though, I've just seen a bus going one direction and a land rover the other. Plenty space. I drive down and as I'm passing this woman she throws up her hands and shakes her head as if we were too close while passing. - Later I'm turning into a shopping centre and a gent at a T-Junction - sitting in both lanes - stares at me as I safely get my car by his despite him taking up most of my lane. There's times I think I should have beeped my horn at people, but I'm slow to use it because half the time a beep won't fix the mistake they've already made. Meanwhile everyone else seems so quick to criticise other people's driving and flip people off. Shitebags think they're untouchable the second there's a car involved. by Docoe (Tue 2nd Aug 2022 4:00pm)

  • It's fuckin madness out there. Another one I've noticed recently is with the increase of hybrids and electrics, drivers are more than happy to cut you off or cut in front of you when you have the right of way. • I'm educated to a Masters level and will use actually and actual interchangeably in conversation because: - I'm not an old man - People don't expect me to speak to them like I'm writing a thesis - Language adapts overtime - Like everyone, I'm influenced by the speech around me (see: regional slang across the world) - the sentence is every bit as comprehensible Many words in the "educated" persons vocabulary that you ascribe to are shortened words, or words that have changed meaning overtime. • > We didn't know that comic books, rock and roll or train journeys were safe for long term consumption once upon a time. I don't disagree with the general point you're making, but this part in particular. It's mental to compare music and comic books to putting a vapour and chemicals directly into your lungs. People were stupid to have concerns about comic books, they aren't stupid to wonder if the thing that's just like smoking will have similar outcomes. by Docoe (Mon 8th Aug 2022 1:13am)
  • >But I would disagree it's just like smoking, It's closer to standing in a heavily air conditioned room. I more mean the act of vaping; bringing something to your lips, inhaling, drawing it to your lungs, exhaling. It's easy to see why people jump to conclusions with it, which I'd say isn't comparable to oldies claiming comics are bad for you. by Docoe (Mon 8th Aug 2022 10:18am)
  • You're the first person to mention race. I've not noticed the candy shops are ran by predominantly Asian people - is it even true? People are downvoting you because you made irrelevant points, when the crux of the issue is that these businesses occupy the most expensive business rental units in Glasgow but don't have customers. It financially does not add up. How did you manage to write a paragraph about the income and outgoings of a business without mentioning rent and bills hahaha. by Docoe (Tue 9th Aug 2022 10:58am)

  • Bring anything you regularly use and feel may be regional/national goods of India that westerners might not use/have as much. Cost of goods I would image are more expensive here, so it might be worth buying things you'd like to have in Glasgow while you're still in India - clothes, small home decorations, technology. Full disclosure, I've never been to India. I'm just trying to think of what we don't have or what is more expensive in Scotland. by Docoe (Tue 9th Aug 2022 12:07pm)

  • >I'm genuinely worried about how this is constantly brought up as a major problem by people who know nothing about business, costs, stock, profit, but are so sure it's all a scam. You are one of these people. Reread your prior comments. You give no consideration to rent or bills, and seem to think derelict business unit means cheap business unit. Secondly, you seem to be conflating people's concerns with them believing that it's a scam. Fronts and scams are not the same thing, people are not worries it's a scam. >These places probably wouldn't be rented out to other businesses that easily, high costs as you say, so it needs to be viable. This is actually what people are trying to tell you. No matter how cheap it is to purchase wholesale stock of American/foreign sweets, and how great a GP they make on each sale with the premium prices they charge, selling the occasional £10 box of twinkies still isn't enough to pay for high street rental and bill costs. This is why people assume it's a front. >a hate campaign against what seems to be racial groups concerns me a lot. You seem to be the only one identifying this as relating to a racial group. I've seen it argued that certain Turkish barbers are fronts, and I'd agree with you that such an accusation could be racially motivated. This isn't the case with the candy places though, it's just not a profitable business model - regardless of race. Subconscious racism does exist as you say, and it should be called out. You're fighting the good fight on the wrong battlefield though. And tbh unfortunately people on Reddit are quite explicit when they are racist so you don't need to read between the lines by Docoe (Tue 9th Aug 2022 8:12pm)

I am looking for people who have the ability to explore radical concepts they are not necessarily already familiar with, which requires a rather more flexible mindset than your own. No, you don't understand your own point. None of what you said is anti-academic. You don't even realise what you stand for. You are not anti-academic if you utilise research. You sound very much like someone who pretends to be radical, when you're actually very normal. None of what you are saying is forward thinking or niche. Intelligent people don't need a playbook to sound intelligent, but you do. Your playbook is pretty much just twitter nonsense, calling everyone white supremacists, debatebros and men with toxic masculinity. I wonder what you'd be without the buzzwords you've picked up from all the others just like you that blame their failures on academics, work and how those systems are supposedly rigged against you all. by Docoe (Thu 11th Aug 2022 1:54pm)
  • > My experience of union reps is that they are fucking awful and do as little as they can whilst having backhanders/benefits. I think unions are terrible and should be doing more. What can they do more of? I don’t know. Imagine moaning about unions not doing enough, wanting them to do more, but being opposed to strikes hahaha. This *is* them doing more. Brain dead doesn't cut it. Strikes work, time and time again. by Docoe (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 7:29pm)
  • Well simply put, because the endless paragraphs really aren't necessary to explain this, salaries and bonuses make most organisations top heavy financially. Simply stop increasing pay at the top, and redirect that money to the workers near the bottom who will struggle to pay their bills. We're talking the difference between poverty for one worker and a second/third/fourth home for a privileged worker. by Docoe (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 8:02pm)
  • > Imagine the Polis or other emergency staff never turned up? "Imagine something completely different happened." Believe it or not mate, your bins getting collected aren't the same as a worker who's job is life or death. And for what it's worth, NHS staff, firefighters and Police have had strikes in Britain. They had responsibilities, but the government and councils have a responsibility - a duty - to ensure they are fairly compensated, safe and protected. by Docoe (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 8:06pm)
  • You're grossly underestimating how much deadwood there is in the council within upper management, and how many people are employed on obscene amounts and with bonuses attached to their contract. If we even halved their bonuses, froze their pay and slowly reduced the upper management workforce then the budget would increase markedly. The stupid thing about the government and council approach to wages (grade system for example) is that once the workers at the bottom receive a payrise, most roles within the whole pyramid have to have pay increased to maintain the grading scale. by Docoe (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 8:40pm)
  • >Would protest not be better targeted at reducing management slack and improving efficiency so that wages for the ones that actually do the work can rise, in that case? It's a fair point, but its not the union or workers responsibility to resolve these matters, particularly when they are so focussed on their own income and cost of living at the moment. by Docoe (Tue 23rd Aug 2022 8:54pm)

  • Was listening to an episode of Sloss and Humphries recently (or was it Btec Philosophers?). Anyway, whatever podcast it was, the comedians got into the topic of "who has the worst audience in comedy" and they agreed it was Kevin Bridges - I should add they're fans of Kevin Bridges, so it wasn't a dig at him. They speculated that it's because he appeals to more than just the usual stand-up fans; whether it's that he's broadly relatable to Glaswegians, sesh-lovers (hoose party sketch shot him to stardom and had cunts shitting in kettles for years), and tbh wee bams that hink they're just as funny as Kevin Bridges too. They mentioned his gigs normally have pissed hecklers, fights and rude/loud drunks. His crowd is usually more drunk or coked up than other comedy crowds. His audiences are also fuckin huge too, so that in itself makes it way more likely to have a few cunts in attendance. So basically, his comedy gigs are way more like a huge music concert/gig. So aye, apparently it's common. Sorry this didn't answer your question, but thought it was an interesting observation from other comedians from the trade. by Docoe (Sat 3rd Sep 2022 12:16am)

The majority of bars and restaurants will remain open to accommodate for those who will be using the bank holiday as an opportunity to socialise etc. Same goes for supermarkets. Essential travel services will not close - trains, buses and taxis - though expect reduced service. Museums and things... It's hard to say. Museums like the Kelvingrove Art Gallery will definitely be at risk of closing for the day, I'd consult their website/social media or call them to get this information. Have fun in Glasgow. by Docoe (Sun 11th Sep 2022 8:00pm)
  • Nah, not a maths equation. Just me being sarcy since you're so confidently saying most hings will be closed as if you know something the rest of us don't. They definitely won't mostly be closed, and buses and trains will continue being available as (aside from via a strike) you canny just cancel the public's mode of transport when some rely on these for hospital visits etc. by Docoe (Sun 11th Sep 2022 8:04pm)
  • Mate, learn to read hahaha. Have another look, I'm saying the only thing that ever brings train and bus services to a complete stop is strikes. I'm saying the Queen's death won't change that, which is the opposite of what you've said. You've had a mare mate by Docoe (Sun 11th Sep 2022 9:51pm)

  • The question: Will everything be shut? You: Of course they'll be shut. OP didn't write a post asking if council ran museums will be shut, he asked if everything will be shut. If you meant to say "of course the museums will be shut" then you either need to edit your comment or accept you wrote the wrong thing. You're right, there are some dumb people here - your comment seems to suggest you're one of them. by Docoe (Mon 12th Sep 2022 1:32pm)
  • There is a huge number of people in Glasgow who either don't care about royalty, or actually feel disdain towards them. Many of those people will have the day off, and many of them will decide to spend their day doing anything other than watching this on TV. Some pubs, restaurants and activities will cater to this. If I know anything about Glasgow, there will also be some pubs showing the funeral on TV and celebrating/mourning the Queen. Some will attend that. There will be more closures than usual, but Glasgow won't be a ghost town. by Docoe (Mon 12th Sep 2022 1:35pm)
  • I think the word token likely appears on all these tickets, probably just part of the paper roll. Still, it's free to appeal so appeal it and keep your fingers crossed. by Docoe (Mon 12th Sep 2022 6:59pm)
  • You can't believe the umming and ahing because you and the angry guy have misread the question. OP didn't ask if council buildings will be open, he asked if everything will be closed. Kelvingrove Gallery was a singular example that many have seemed to latched onto, when the obvious answer is that many things won't close by Docoe (Tue 13th Sep 2022 8:29am)

  • It's a pub, business hours can be anything from 10am to 4am in this city. They are condescending because you'd rather a whole business inconvenienced itself rather than taking steps of your own to mitigate the noise. • >So you want people on the comments to address every single business and shop in the whole of Glasgow, and tell them whether they are going to be open, like a big 1000 page list? While that would be extremely helpful to OP, I reckon something like the following would also suffice without all the effort: "businesses ran by the council will be closed, but there are plenty privately owned attractions that will be open, such as X and Y. There will also be nice bars and restaurants to visit." You know, something like a helpful comment. > Or maybe just answer it specific to where they’re planning on going - council attractions. They mentioned one business that happens to be council owned. They're asking about attractions in general, they're not trying to tick a big to do list of council owned attractions, which no sane person has ever tried to do. Use your common sense. >not a holiday Literally is a bank holiday. You've had three days to write your comment and realise that. by Docoe (Fri 16th Sep 2022 4:07pm)
  • You asked what I want people to reply, there it is 😂 >everyone umming and ahing like it was a normal day Four days on and some things are still open. You say everyone, but no one made it out to be a normal day. You're getting upset at things that haven't even happened. >you spend waaaaaaay too much time picking fights on dead topics on reddit Chief, I was sitting cooking a lovely pot of chilli when you decided to reply to a comment from days ago and ended up in my inbox. You picked a fight in a dead thread, replying to my dead comment. Now you're getting angry at me for replying to your comment in a dead thread. by Docoe (Fri 16th Sep 2022 6:25pm)
  • Addressed how they've to provide the answer? In writing, using a wee bit of common sense, a wee bit of knowledge, or in the case of others, a wee bit of info from working at an attraction or other tourist friendly business. Plenty of people have already provided decent answers mate. You're the only one that seems incapable of doing so without asking me to give you a helping hand. > but naw your needing an itinerary of opening hours across all sectors. Mate what the fuck are you on about hahahaha. Whats up wae you man, you created this fictional scenario in your heed where people expect you to list all the shops being open and now you're seething about it. Every other helpful person just told him the truth, that they don't know what will be open but some things will still go ahead. The guy just needed assurance Glasgow wouldn't be a ghost town. It is really nothing for you to get so upset about. > McDonalds is shut so it’s fair to say it’s not a normal day, it’s not a normal bank holiday and these are all things the guy I replied to had already said before people like you started questioning it Not one person said it was a normal day, why are you still ranting about this? > You’re never off Reddit mate you’re in the top 5% of contributors to this very active page so let’s not pretend like you’re a passing visitor Okay? • The problem isn't the lack of skelped arses, but the parents who seem to think they're doing a great job for not skelping them. Weans need discipline, and skelping them was the easiest way to do it. I don't think it's the best way to do it though, as it has been proven to lead to issues in **some** children growing up. Sure as fuck beats not disciplining them though, and some parents have nae clue how to effectively discipline. by Docoe (Mon 19th Sep 2022 1:03am)

  • The area they're suggesting people look is Greater Glasgow. There's a rent crisis basically anywhere near the subway lines, but there are plenty Greater Glasgow towns within a reasonable commuting distance (via train or bus) that isn't in a rental crisis. • > In my own experience as a former teenager and a current parent of a 20 something Children are all individuals and should be raised as such, because there isn't a one size fits all approach to parenting individuals. You and your children are not proof that one method of parenting is the correct method for every child. If every issue was as simple as doing things as a family or finding a hobby then child councillors and psychologists would be out of a job. The modern phenomenon of parents viewing themselves as childcare professionals is damaging. Unless you actually work in the childcare or child psychology sector, please don't preach like your childcare experience is anything but anecdotes. If you do work in the field, please share research instead of using anecdotes - they aren't helpful and provide no framework to help parents emulate good parenting techniques. I appreciate you trying to help people with your comment, and it's fantastic to hear that you are using parenting techniques that work for you and are not damaging. I honestly mean that. However, if you would care to preach less and read more, you'd notice I said violence has been proven to have a negative impact on some children. I am not an advocate, I do not hit children. You are preaching to the choir in a know-it-all, condescending tone. To make it unequivocally clear to you: the point that is being made is that while spanking children is bad, it is better than no parenting or discipline at all. There is currently a wave of parents who do nothing to address their children's bad behaviours, including all the methods you suggested. The point is that these parents seem to give themselves a pat on the back because they don't spank their kids, and think this means they are brilliant parents, even though their parenting style is similarly damaging. by Docoe (Mon 19th Sep 2022 2:18pm)
  • Again, please read. You were the one who first mentioned violence not being the answer, and I responded saying dont be a parent that has no answer. Translation: I said parents should have an answer to disciplining their children. I never said you or any other parents should have an answer for me. I'm not asking a question, so I require no answer. You've completely misunderstood everything. by Docoe (Mon 19th Sep 2022 3:21pm)
  • > I don’t know why you’re having a go at me. You said I didn’t have an answer I'm having a go because I didn't say that, or any of the other things you think I've said. You have been asked multiple times to reread and try and comprehend a very simple message, but with each reply you come up empty. To break this down for you. Since you're phone seems to lack the function to scroll above to see previous comments. Me: "Skelping kids is bad, but arguably no discipline/lessons in your parenting is just as bad" You, **responding to the guy that already said violence isn't the answer**: "Violence isn't the answer" Me: "Correct, don't be a parent that has no answer though" < this here is a statement, not a question. Not someone asking you for answers. You: "Well since you asked, here is all my answers" Me: "No one asked you for this" You: "You asked for my answers, in fact, you moaned at me to give them" Me: "No I didn't" You: "You said I have no answers" Me, in this very present moment: Again, I didn't say that. • Its an odd post, sure. But did you bother to read it? They're not asking why there's Chinese people here, like your reply suggests. They asked why, twice, they have seen groups of Asian people (I won't assume their Chinese like OP) sprinting it up a station. by Docoe (Tue 11th Oct 2022 11:52pm)
  • Would it be much more considerate to say Asian than to assume a more specific ethnicity/nationality? Take this post for example, you get the impression OP just assumed they're Chinese, when saying Asian would be less presumptuous. The problem seems to stem from the English language lacking a useful descriptor, like black/white. It leads people to say Asian, even though Asian is a dreadful descriptor considering it tells us nothing - i.e. where white people all have one physical feature in common, the same can't be said for people from Asia. Obviously this is bullshit, but it was enough to discourage me from going to a doctor fearing I would be shot down. Well, I feel like I'm no longer doing well. I struggle to motivate myself, concentrate, plan tasks, or stay to plan. Basically all the same shite I've always struggled with, but now I can't get by with these issues. I'm so frustrated because I feel like my issues worsening has coincided with ADHD being treated as a fad disorder by social media influencers, and now I again fear I won't be taken seriously. I've been friends with musicians that play the Glasgow scene fairly regularly and they all worked FT on the side, so the music never paid the bills. Granted, they were in bands rather than solo which I assume has an impact on income since you're splitting the profits. Since then that's how I operate. Filters out all the cunts that just want free shit, and people that will take it to resell for profit. Plus, once you've found someone that actually wants to buy it, you could just give them it for free if you're feeling generous. Alternatively, the barter pages on Facebook are handy. • I can understand why someone who hasn't worked in bars would think that way, but it's not the case since cold, sealed and alcoholic environments like a beer line are hostile for most bacteria and fungus, so cleaning the lines before beginning service isn't necessary. It generally takes weeks for the lines to get dirty. It would also be financially draining doing it daily, since it involves binning litres of beer from each tap, and running expensive chemicals through the lines. Not to mention it takes a decent amount of time to do too. Daily tasks to keep up hygiene requirements are cleaning the spouts and drip trays, and of course washing the glasses after each use. by Docoe (Mon 26th Dec 2022 10:33pm)
  • Ex-hospitality worker here, similar time served. Staff following basic hygiene like holding the glass in the right place should be basic training you're right... But if you're expecting the lines to get cleaned on Christmas Eve or Christmas day, it may be a case that if you keep smelling shite all day you should check your own shoes? If you expect staff to do that, it's possible you may have other unrealistic and unreasonable expectations for service. For example, why is there anything wrong with talking to colleagues while pouring a pint? Ultimately, staff won't say thanks to you if they don't like your attitude and don't think you deserve to be thanked. I do agree that standards are slipping, but I'd put that down to employers skipping corners with training, and employing the cheapest staff rather than the best. by Docoe (Mon 26th Dec 2022 10:47pm)
  • With every complaint I'd taste the drink, but unfortunately some employers don't allow staff to do this. I've always seen that as a red flag with employers, as occasionally tasting what your serving is a necessity for quality control. If I think it tastes terrible, they of course get a refund or new drink. Ultimately though, my pallet isn't theirs and they may taste problems my pallet happily glazes over - that's when the below comes in: First thing I'd check is for where the bubbles are forming on the glass. With a proper pint the bubbles float to the top from the middle of the glass. If the bubbles look like their clinging to the glassware rather than rising from the centre, the glass is either dirty or was wet with water when filled. If that's the case, I'd try pour them a second pint. If the second pint is still shite or the bubbles weren't clinging to the glass in the first instance, I'd offer them another brand for free. Hopefully that resolves the matter. If one person complains about your pint, it might just be that they don't like the brand they ordered or prefer the shite, manky tennents poured at their local. If a second and third person complains about the pint, I know it's shite and the line needs cleaned or the keg is fucked/out of date. **As a side note**: I worked as a brewer for a bit. The mashing process and how yeast responds to the mash can vary a lot. Even the huge, commercial companies like Heineken, Tennents and so on will have small inconsistencies between batches, so if your beer tastes a little different from last time, that can be why. We're talking small changes like sweetness, bitterness, sourness and so on, but nothing hugely different. by Docoe (Mon 26th Dec 2022 11:48pm)
  • Unfortunately service standards vary greatly. It isn't even a bar thing, I've worked in great bars with shite colleagues. Haha. To deal with your new fear: Tastes good but bubbles cling to exterior of glass = water. Tastes bad and bubbles cling to exterior of glass = dirty, or chemicals from dishwasher. by Docoe (Tue 27th Dec 2022 12:04am)

  • > I've never felt in danger once > I just assume everybody is armed especially in Florida as it's a concealed carry and they just need to say they felt threatened and can legally kill you. Lol. No reason to feel in danger I guess. I'm willing to assume you think it gets a bad name and find people welcoming because: You stayed in a resort, lovely rented apartment or hotel, meaning you were holed away from general life in America/Florida. Most people you spoke to were workers, paid to be nice to you. You are white and speak English. Last time I was in Florida I was 15, and even then I was hyperaware of the shithole beliefs there, like confederate flags dotted round and "you're in America, speak English" bumper stickers. America is fucked but the tourists are hardly going to get a glimpse of that, walking about Disneyland haha. by Docoe (Wed 8th Mar 2023 12:59pm)
  • Not a comedian but listen to a lot of comedy podcasts, and it's surprising how often they talk about how they got into comedy and the things you need to do for the first few years. In terms of where to start: Start looking for open mic nights, either comedy ones or mixed. Obviously don't rock up to a poetry or musicians open mic haha. Some of the event websites are great, but when I want to find shows sometimes I find more success going on Facebook and Instagram and just writing "open mic, Glasgow" in the search bar. Tbh mate, you might be best just sending a message to local comedians asking this question and acting for general advice on starting out. I get the impression that comedians want to help each other as much as they can, as long as you're no a wank. Even though you never asked, some of the other stuff they say you should do starting out: Record your sets as you play them, watch them back to find out where things went wrong and what can be improved. Play as often as you can. It's hard to rise up in that industry, and you need to get yourself known quickly in the local circuit. Stay after your set is finished to see how the other comedians do things. Start analysing their set rather than just listening. How they set up jokes, what gets the crowd going, even how they hold the mic. by Docoe (Wed 8th Mar 2023 1:11pm)

Lad is just asking if anyone can fling an old bed his way, calm the fuck doon everyone. OP - sorry I don't have anything to offer you, but some cheap options would be: Blow-up bed Foam mattress protector for current mattresses (which would resolve the plastic issue with the welfare bed) Futon Hammock Army/Camping cot Plenty people choose not to sleep on traditional beds, and there are options out there to facilitate that. • Booze and fags are legal, just not for all ages. However, an outright ban would see them taken out of most shops. That'll lead to a massive reduction. You'll still see them, aye, bound to be some shops that risk a fine and people will still buy them in other councils like North Lan and so on. • That's probably got something to do with the autisticus part of your username. by Docoe (Fri 17th Mar 2023 12:08am)
  • The autism strikes again, as it wasn't patter. I was making a point about how idiotic it is to assume all vegans would have a problem cooking meat for money and/or other people. To break it down for you into simple little bites: Not all vegans do it for moral reasons, for some it is dietary, others its taste or texture. They'd be able to cook meat without moral issue. The pilot point: that people often have jobs that go against their moral values. People do morally dubious jobs all the time, despite understanding it's morally dubious. Planes contribute an inordinate amount towards carbon emissions and thus global warming, yet pilots still do this job knowing what they are contributing to. They can put morality out of the way, both for their career and for those they are providing a service to - just like a vegan chef can. Being unable to comprehend that point further cements the whole idiotic thing. by Docoe (Fri 17th Mar 2023 12:39am)
  • Pity about their whisky though 😬 by Docoe (Mon 20th Mar 2023 8:58pm)
  • Yeah. If you know you're going to release a young whisky, there are processes you can put in place during production to ensure its smooth and tasty. The problem is Clydeside apparently never intended to be released as a young whisky. COVID hit and they lost a lot of money they would have generated from tours. I'm told this forced their hand and they needed to release some whisky to generate sales and stay alive. You can tell the whisky was released too early - it's not very smooth and hasn't taken on too much flavour from the casks yet. They also released a "limited edition" whisky for the G20 summit, but there were so many bottles that it really wasn't rare at all. They just haven't started well but they could always improve. All this being said, I have met people who enjoy their whisky, but they seem to be in the minority by Docoe (Tue 21st Mar 2023 12:18pm)

  • > all these jobs have been lost **PSA** For anyone looking for a job in the hospitality industry, please join *Glasgow Bartenders Club - Recruitment* page on Facebook. Contrary to the name, this page advertises a wealth of roles beyond bartending: from waitering, management, cheffing and barista work - among others. Not everyone knows this page exists, so it's easy to be led to believe that it is tough finding a job in the hospitality sector. The opposite is true. There are many roles available as businesses are crying out for staff, **so know your worth, join a union and pursue a healthy workspace and decent pay**. Saramago couldn't offer those things when open, and they certainly cannot do so now. Victory for unionised workers and hopefully a decent employer will occupy that space soon. I've been working in the hospitality and drinks industry for a long time, in various roles from KP to management, so if anyone wants to run a CV through me I'd be happy to look it over and advise on any tweaks that might be needed to make job hunting easier. Remember, only a crackpot would believe job loses at Saramago is the worst outcome once they know about this recruitment page. by Docoe (Sat 22nd Apr 2023 2:06pm)

  • > If enough people simply left bad employers they’d either have to improve or go bust. Sorry bud, but that's categorically untrue. If you were to consider what a bad employer looks like, it's almost always involves shady cost-cutting/profiteering measures; whether that's withholding tips, not offering breaks or manipulating staff to work beyond their salaried hours. These businesses accept high turnover of staff, as they believe they can have a revolving door, just hiring someone else to screw over to make more money. That's **why** they get to stay open when left unchallenged. >I just don’t get this mentality of “I’m entitled to XYZ and I’ll strike until I get it” The reality is that if you just leave to find another job, the employer will just fuck over the next poor soul. The mentality is "I'll strike until I and everyone else here now and hereafter gets it". Be thankful you don't need to understand the mentality, it was union action that made most workplaces bearable and allowed you to become too far removed to appreciate the value of union action. by Docoe (Sat 22nd Apr 2023 11:32pm)

  • >and/or a concern troll? Rich fae a guy that saw "Traffic flows better" and responded wae **CHILDREN WILL DIE** I'm not an anti-traffic light fundamentalist (do those exist?!) or a troll. Just curious if you're basing that off a hunch or not, because pedestrians are taught how to judge the flow of traffic, look both ways and even how to cross when road users have a green light (when safe to do so). Overreliance on pedestrian lights occasionally leads people to forget to look both ways, then inattentive drivers still plow through red lights. We've had a small increase in deaths on the road in Glasgow in the last two weeks, and all while traffic lights were in operation. My hope is the lights have been turned off today in response to those deaths, so GCC can reprogram their lights and improve traffic flow. *Knowing GCC though, it's probably just a mistake*. by Docoe (Mon 12th Jun 2023 12:22pm)
