  • O2 offer a service called o2 recycle. They can take electronics and recycle them. If its a phone or tablet they can offer a payment but old chargers and stuff they usually dispose of sustainably. I think you need to go into a shop but they are probably closed till mid Jan by ApplicationAware1039 (Thu 24th Dec 2020 11:56pm)
  • Probably the lights from George Square on the city chambers. I can see them from Yoker and depending on the cloud cover I suspect they will show further or less. https://images.app.goo.gl/1ci39cpNt566sfap6 by ApplicationAware1039 (Sat 26th Dec 2020 11:37pm)
  • I think if it's cloudy you actually see them more often as they reflect. On a clear night I can see them from Broomhill. They point to the west as I cycled in to track them down a few weeks back. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sat 26th Dec 2020 11:42pm)
  • I had this problem for a few years. Every so often water would run down our living room walls. If its constantly happening then it's a burst / not connected pipe. If its only sometimes then it's probably a bad seal or a waste pipe that's not properly connected. On our case it was a neighbours bath overflow pipe that was completely missing so only happened when they had a bath and filled it full! I believe it's your factors job to follow this up but in reality they call a plumber, the plumber goes to see your upstairs neighbours and they won't let them pull up a floor or blocks them. The plumber is not there to argue so leaves saying they can't see everything and the factor pays them and bills you / your block. I suggest if its only sometimes the water comes in to speak to your neighbours, ask if they will help and run 1 tap at a time, fill up sinks, baths, showers etc. Remember if it's a new flat then there is a concrete floor between you that watter can run along. Remember to run dishwasher / clothes washing machine etc. Make sure you over flow sinks and baths to check for overflow. If its constantly coming in, insist the factor attends with the plumber next time and they make an appointment with the neighbours so they can speak to them. The last post is right about environmental health. They can force the access issue on safety and health grounds. Do not let the factor just send random plumbers and just not find it cause the neighbours won't let them in.. Do speak to your neighbours, show them a photo, DON'T get angry and demand. It will only make it harder. In the end for me I told the factor I was not happy with thier plumbers and asked for a different company. They got Eagle Contracts Scotland and Alan the owner came to see me. They 'found' a broken waste pipe that was covered by insurance and I got new bathroom fitted with the problem fixed. They were really good and the workmen he has are all brilliant. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 27th Dec 2020 9:51am)
  • Thanks for all the replies, appreciate the views. Can't believe I am about to add a new development. My mother in law has been diagnosed with covid today. They have a dog which I have offered to take while she and her husband are isolated. But they think it's fine to take the dog out 3 times a day and just go to quiet parks. Honestly I give up. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 27th Dec 2020 8:51pm)

  • The problem with Lemon Tree is the delivery service is terrible. I used to live close and you could always get your food within 15 mins. I moved a bit further and used the delivery service and every time it's terrible. They take over an hour easily. Look at just eat reviews about speed of delivery. However if you can collect and zoom along the express way to Scotstoun you are onto a winner. I also liked Zensation at the top of Queen Margaret Drive. However best ever was a place in Leeds called Red chilli. Something called gelshing chicken cooked in roasted chilli and black pepper. Amazing! by ApplicationAware1039 (Thu 31st Dec 2020 12:18am)
  • A lot of parking has been removed with large barriers to allow the pavement to be widened. It allows more people to walk and distance. There was a consultation on Byers Rd recently but I am not sure how it ended. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 3rd Jan 2021 5:49pm)

  • I can only talk about the area I live near. Partick has a bus, train and underground in one location that also has 2 supermarkets + takeaways. If you like urban life, want convince and connection's you can't go far wrong. From Partick you can get direct trains to Loch lomond, Helensburgh, Motherwell, Edinburgh and of course Glasgow (Queen St and Central). The low level is cheaper and runs better hours than the subway. But the subway goes to South of the river. Buses go to hospital and back to centre. Partick has to be one of the best connections in Glasgow for transport. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 10th Jan 2021 1:35am)

  • Have you considered a mesh wifi network? I have the BT wholehome system and in a flat that could not get the signal into a 2nd room this gave me full coverage. The reason I like the bt system is I put ethernet cable under the floor to each disk (hardwired backbone) and get a mesh wifi signal at full speed in evey room. The benafit of a mesh over extenders is you get the same network name and your devices quickly move to the stronger signal as you walk around. With extenders they all have different net2names and devices hold onto the weak till it drops even when a better signal is available. by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 11th Jan 2021 8:26pm)
  • Have you tried moving the router? If not possible to move it then how about (as a test) run an ethernet cable from your router to somewhere central in the flat. Get a 2nd router and turn off DHCP o 2nd router. Then try the signal from the 2nd router to see if cover2is better. It's important to turn off DHCP on the 2nd router or it won't work. Some people and routers call this bridging or bridge mode. Whatever you do, don't get an extension cable for the phone socket, you will lose lots of speed with a long extension RJ45 cable. by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 11th Jan 2021 9:47pm)

  • I think you should still get fixed line broadband rather than mobile. While 4 and 5g are available most networks are using 5G NSA and are yet to introduce 5G SA. For the next 18 moths, at least, I would go for a broadband FTTC package as a minimum. by ApplicationAware1039 (Wed 13th Jan 2021 12:59am)
  • What was that company called? I worked in the o2 Glasgow office doing broadband but I vaguely recall an office in Edinburgh from an outsourcing company. by ApplicationAware1039 (Wed 13th Jan 2021 7:32pm)
  • Ahh that was the name Sykes. While O2 was / is a big company they had no idea about broadband. I was in from the start and I remember the month before it went live asking the 'heads of' how calls should be categorised and they had not thought of it. The training guys were making it up and when challenged said we had spotted them trying to catch us out and asked us how we would train it if we were in thier shoes, the systems were o2 mobile systems cobbled to work for broadband with the people implementing no idea how they worked and the core system (Avatar) was buily by a company called Sapient for Be Broadband but when o2 came in they put in all sort of rules before the customer base was big enough. I always though if they had left the service teams with very techie people and got the sames teams to just throw more and more people at it then it could have worked. Customers loved the support the original teams gave but they made it a bit to o2 and brought in call centre staff from mobile who were not technical and tried to save cash Anyway its my 2nd big startup as I was at 3 for launch in 2002/03 and that's how they get these things off the ground with cowboys and making it up. Its usually brilliant till the corporate types come in and start to standardise it! by ApplicationAware1039 (Wed 13th Jan 2021 9:44pm)
  • Sorry I don't get the wood burner craze. My neighbours have one and regularly come home with scavenged wood. I look out my window to see acrid black smoke on a few days every week. Seems to me they want to save by not using decent clean, dry wood. Instead they use old non dry and abandoned chemical treated wood. Basically fuck the environment!!! Either these seem to be a false economy or they are juso polluting like the Cole fire before them. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 17th Jan 2021 1:31am)
  • Have you tried the Council help twitter account? It's different to the main account. Also the website and app are shite. I just tweet this address. @MyGlasgowCC by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 17th Jan 2021 3:27pm)
  • When I lived in a tenement flat we had wheelie bins. Some residents put the wrong stuff in bins like general in food. The bin men told me they would not take these bins as they were contaminated. Some bins sat for months till I went and fixed them. I then moved to a house so have my own bin. If collection is missed I find contacting the GCC twitter or app on the day after generally works. If I leave it a few days they just ignore requests till the next date. by ApplicationAware1039 (Tue 19th Jan 2021 11:45am)

  • I can't recommend anyone bit when looking I woukd suggest an Indipendant Financial Adviser (IFC). Reason is, an IFA can give advice on all products on the market. A financial adviser (restricted) will work for a company like a bank and will be limited to only products thier company uses. That means using a restricted FA will only tell you about some products not all. by ApplicationAware1039 (Thu 21st Jan 2021 3:38pm)
  • Yep link above let's you view an online account of every payment. Just be aware that whatever you pay per month is then split between council tax, water and waste so a payment of 200 in one month might show broken down. by ApplicationAware1039 (Thu 21st Jan 2021 3:44pm)

  • If you can find a decent flat I would look at Partick, thornwood area. Transport from Partick has a Bus, underground and train line all in the same depot. It also has a lidel and morrisons there. The underground and bus go to most of Glasgow, the train goes to loch lomond, city centre and Edinburgh! It has the added benefit of being next to the west end so loads of bars, restaurants, cinema, museums and uni of Glasgow. by ApplicationAware1039 (Thu 25th Feb 2021 11:20pm)

  • You can cycle but need to return home at the end. You can't stay overnight anyway that's not your main residence and you cant camp. For example a cycle from Glasgow to loch lomond and back is fine. It's excersize and can be done in 2 hours and for most regular cyclists that's not excessive. But you can't cycle to Fort William, stay the night and cycle back the next day. The exact wording on the Scottish gov website is. ' local outdoor informal exercise such as walking, cycling, golf, or running (in groups of up to 2 people, plus any children under 12, from no more than 2 households). Exercise can start and finish at a place in your local authority area (or up to 5 miles from its boundary), but you should travel no further than you need to reach to a safe, non-crowded place to exercise in a physically distanced way. • No idea but I cycled through Giffnock last night and there was a bunch of teenagers outside a takeaway shop. One emptied his onto the ground and threw the container into the road. He was standing right next to a bin. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 7th Mar 2021 9:15am)
  • I don't understand why the media and club did nothing to stop it, rangers sent something like 54 tweets yesterday and none asked fans to stay at home. BBC sportscene had a few who could not manage say it was wrong and instead how they know the police can't arrest so many or cause a riot. Both were, in my view, encouraging it and doing nothing to stop it. You want fans back in the grounds? The behaviour yesterday and at some other clubs recently has only strengthened the government resolve. I would not be surprised if they stop the games and abandoned the cup. by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 8th Mar 2021 11:03am)

  • Agree But I do think the bins are emptied less often. I could be wrong but bins are overflowing all over the city. I also noticed a lot of street bins have vanished outside smaller train stations. Do you think the council have reduced the service to street bins and that's addi g to the overflowing bins? Or does this happen as more people are outside because of covid? by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 15th Mar 2021 10:54am)
  • Used to be common and the electrical company came and emptied it. A pain when you ran out of 50p coins. But I guess an early power card idea I lived in a flat where it still had one but only cause the landlord charged me £10 for 20 x coins and when I used them I could by more. He had the key to empty so it was on mains but he had the old coin meter as a way of charging. by ApplicationAware1039 (Tue 16th Mar 2021 7:41pm)
  • Street bin emptying schedules seem to be non existant as the large bins are constantly overflowing for days on end. Either improve the way we can use the website / app to report fly tipping, bin overflowing, missed bin collection etc. Or bring back twitter Task Force team. With task force I coukd take a pic, provide a location and send in 20 secons + get a rep. With the app / website you need to sign in, navigate the slow and cumbersome interface and it takes ages. For things like fly tipping I just give up. The council need to realise the people reporting are not moaning they are the eyes and ears. Also they need to take these reports to build better collaboration strategies instead they just use them as single reports to fix. They are missing the bigger picture. The 3 week green bin collection is a mistake. It will see an increase in contaminated recycling bins, fly tipping, overflowing Street bins and will be wholesale counter to a refuse strategy. The only thing it will do for the council is reduse the fleet activities. Wealthy area will simply buy 2 green bins. City Centre graphiti is a disgrace. A forward looking council would improve the website and app so residents can actually track all of the above including bin collection stats and live collection so missed bins are pro actually flagged rather than residents flagging. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sat 20th Mar 2021 7:34am)
  • I think it's 1) old technology 2) people who really don't think about the user 3) intentionally hard to use. Also the IVR when calling is full of loops, same option asked for repeatedly, forced messages repeatedly and different voices. It takes 3 minutes from calling the payment line to actually starting to pay for c tax. I say that's exactly the same. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sat 20th Mar 2021 8:06am)
  • Right then, that's nice. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sat 20th Mar 2021 10:58pm)
  • I don't know what else the police could have done. The club added fule to this fire with the players celebrating at the gate during the game and then out the windows. The club also took far to long to address the situation sending 54 tweets with none saying stay home. Only once it was too late did they begin to really push a stay away message. The media advertised it and on the day a lot of radio presenters failed to condone it with some saying they understood. Some said 'what can the police do' which only encourages more to go. what could the police do in the face of thousands turning up? There are already police officers with spikes of infection, above the normal, since they had to police this. They could have sent in the riot police, been faced with more violence and even more infections. I 100% think anyone who attended shoukd be back of the queue for vaccine as they risked everyone's hard work, but its impossible to collect that. by ApplicationAware1039 (Tue 23rd Mar 2021 1:00pm)
  • 100% it's been a great day in Glasgow with nice weather. What street is this? I can guess near hampden toryglen but I cycle around Glasgow and love seeing streets and views I have not been to. by ApplicationAware1039 (Fri 2nd Apr 2021 7:43pm)
  • I know in the west end there are a few places selling takeaway drink but as drinking in public is not allowed in Glasgow the containers are sealed so people take them home. Of course people can just open them but they are not allowed to sell pints in plastic cups like last summer so I guess less places have bothered. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sat 3rd Apr 2021 12:40pm)
  • I have seen a few places using a plastic / cardboard container with a screw lid. A bit like one you get fresh orange in. I think the point is you can't sell them in plastic pint glasses with McDonald's style plastic lids. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sat 3rd Apr 2021 12:49pm)

  • Problem you might have is there is a huge shortage of bikes and bike parts due to covid. Demand has gone through the roof. Yes you will find a bike but no big discounts. If its just to travel to uni and back definitely try Bike for Good as the other person suggested, they do a lot of 2nd hand reconditioned bikes. Also look online or Dale's in the city have a large showroom. As far as local shops in the west end I recommend West end cycles (George is a grumpy cunt but if you can look past that prices are decent for service and repairs), bike Hive (james very technical and knows his stuff but can take a few days to get your service done), bike for good I have found decent for quick repairs. Gears (personally I always find they fix the parts you could probably get 500 miles more from, that's fine if you do 5000 a year but if you only do 1000 then that's 6 months usage they just replaced. Velo I have not been to but I hear Paum is very good. by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 5th Apr 2021 8:26pm)
  • A friend of mine got his early as his pall is a GP who called and said it was being thrown away if not used. I believe this is happening with some GP's calling people when they have spare asking if they can get there that day. I am not sure about hanging around outside the Hydro but there is 24 hour security down there so why not ask one of them. There may be some sort of unofficial stand by. Let us know if you manage. by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 12th Apr 2021 6:13pm)

  • My view is the government has a housing shortage. While building more is part of the solution they are also combating people buying them up to rent. The people buying them to rent are generally able to afford more and drive the price up. Both these actions block 1st time buyers from being able to enter the housing market. The 2nd home stamp duty is to make 2nd home owners think but does not stop them. You just need to put up the extra. There is no easy system I can see for people buying for kids. What's to say they use that as a reason and then just build a property empire. However I do have some possible solutions you can look into. I think there is a baseline before it kicks in, something like 40k so buy a property under that? Buy a static caravan or house boat, they don't apply for the 2nd tax. If you sell within 3 years to your kids and have 1 home I think you can claim the stamp duty back Do I think its unfair? No. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sat 24th Apr 2021 6:36pm)

Last time I asked it was something like £4 a half day. If you are not making calls then the area next to it has large work tables and you can use the WiFi. by ApplicationAware1039 (Tue 27th Apr 2021 12:22am)

Pulled a blue plaster out my mouth. I took it back, and the guy rummaged through my chips to check there was nothing more and handed them back. • Weather looks a bit over cast tomorrow. Guess it depends where you are. If in the west you are probably best going for some of the larger beer gardens. You could try down at Finnieston and there are a few options near by. Cranside (rotunda) but next door is Radison and Hilton. I cycled past at 8pm and all had spare tables. Don't think you would get the Radison roof garden but you could ask as amazing views!!! That's 4 beer gardens within 100m. You could try Thornwood bar, but not many other bars if you can't get in. Again tonight about 8pm they had a table or 2. Other options are The Primary, has lots of tables and GWR. I guess if you go for the last 3 you could sit inside with no alcohol and ask / wait till a table becomes free. Cottiers has a good amount of table but no idea how busy Lastly Ashton Lane has lots of beer gardens Thats my suggestions for the west. However most you could sit inside with no alcohol and wait for a table. I suggest the finiston or Ashton Lane might work. City centre the wetherspoon in George sq looks OK and lots of tables. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 2nd May 2021 12:03am)

  • Is your booking inside or outside? For outside the rules changed a few weeks back to allow 6 people for 6 different households to meet. Previously there was a rule that it's 6 from 2 households but that's changed. Indoors the limit is 4 from 2 households. There is no alcohol indoors till 17 may and on that date the number changes to 6 from 3 households. Below is a cut from the Scottish government level 3 advice. Until 17th May we are in L3 At Level 3: you can meet in groups of up to 6 from 2 households in an indoor public place such as a café, pub or restaurant you can meet in groups of up to 6 from 6 households outdoors, in a private garden or a public place like a park or an outdoor area of a café by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 2nd May 2021 9:39pm)
  • We should be in level 2 by then. That means. At Level 2: you can meet socially in groups of up to: 6 adults from 3 households in an indoor public place like a café, pub or restaurant 8 adults from 8 households outdoors by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 2nd May 2021 9:47pm)
  • We don't have leasehold is Scotland. You might find in flats there is a monthly maintenance fee called factors fee. This takes care of insurance, cleaning communal areas and general shared area issues. also in new build property housing estates some share the cost of maintaining the area like the communal grass etc. Most houses don't have any of these factors fees as you own it. by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 3rd May 2021 12:59pm)

  • Have a look at Partick. I think it ticks a lot of the things you want. There is a train station that connects to Central and Queen St and runs later than the underground. The trains can go to Helensburgh, Balloch, Motherwell, Edinburgh direct!! In the same building is Partick underground so access to the city and south of the river. There is also a bus station all in the same Partick interchange. 2 supermarkets (morrisons and Lidl) Its 0.5 miles from Byers Rd so in the west end but cheaper than some parts. It's 1 mile from Kelvingrove Park. Its next to the express way which connects you to the m8 and the Kingston bridge taking you to the M77 for Ayrshire and m74. by ApplicationAware1039 (Wed 5th May 2021 10:42pm)
  • I always thought we were better part of the UK and Europe. But the pandemic has made me realise how South England focused the UK government are. Watching levels rise in North England and Wales last year a d they asked for finance support, extending furlough and they were refused. But a month later when levels rise in the south, the kent varient, the rats scrambled to trains. When that happened the UK government took care of the South of England. Yes they rest of the UK got the financial furlough but only because the South had a need. The North, Scotland and Wales had already cut jobs due to an end date of support. That was the day that I changed my view. Its a UK government who control finance to the devolved nation's but only respond to the south of England demands. • Correct, from Monday 17th Glasgow will remain in L3 but the rest of the country (except Moray) moves to L2. You are able to move freely in L2 areas however you are not able to leave or enter an L3 area to go to a lower or higher area. For people (and I include myself) in Glasgow you are not able to leave the city and people can't enter. I have listened to a number of people (who I now refer to as cunts) tell me people are fatigued with rules and they are doing what they want / need. However these people are cunts who are putting the rest of us in danger and are all contributing to us being in restrictions longer than necessary The levels will be reviewed on Thursday or Friday and agreed for the following week. With the cuntish behaviour in the south side, the mass gatherings today and people being cunts I suspect we will be in L3 for at least three more weeks. If the cunts continue to behave how they like we might even be in L4 with shops and pubs closed. Its up to the cunts how cuntish they want to be and how it impacts the rest of us. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 16th May 2021 12:44am)
  • If people had followed the rules more closely then we would be in L2 with the rest of the country. But they didn't, and because of these cunts I can't leave the city. I hear all this shit from people saying they can't do this any more or they need to make up thier own mind. The UK has the worst cases and deaths in Europe, we are in the top (or bottom) 10 in the 195 countries in the world. People are trying to justify breaking the rules saying they know the risks or they are being safe. Well the numbers prove otherwise and the more of this cunt behaviour that goes on the longer we will have restrictions. This pandemic has shown that there is a sizable group in society that don't care for the common good and only act in thier own intrest. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 16th May 2021 1:21am)

  • It's law not to travel into or out a L3 area to a lower area. Having the vaccine, taking tests etc does not change the law on this. However the good news is everyone who felt certain that they were acting safely and would not spread the virus was actually correct. Not one of them did, and we are in a great state world wide. by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 17th May 2021 5:18pm)

  • I suppose it depends how you deal with our weather. Some of my family from Singapore wear a jacket, hats and scarfs while I have a T shirt on in summer 16 degrees. I suggest for autumn when you arrive you are going to be surprised how wet and cold it can be. Get a decent warm jacket for the dry days and a good waterproof (goretex) that you can wear a few layers under for rain. It's rare in Glasgow to be really cold like - 5/-10. Winter is generally 1-5 degrees c. The rain and wind can be bad but again we don't have torrential downpours like tropical climates. It's can be constant rain some days and we have days of cloud cover. Get a hat and gloves. But, when the weather is bright and clear Scotland can look amazing! We are 30/40 minutes away from Loch Lomond or the coast. The people are friendly and you should look forward to out culture. Welcome! by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 17th May 2021 10:55pm)
  • Sadly I think it's very unlikely Glasgow will be moved down to Tier 3 in under 14 days. There will be a formal update on 21st May that will confirm and I expect they won't have enough data to show a decline in numbers. In fact I expect a few more areas to be moved up or put on watch lists. The current restrictions mean you can not enter or leave a tier 3 level to move in to a tier 2. This is a legal restriction not just an advisory. by ApplicationAware1039 (Tue 18th May 2021 11:02am)

  • How close do you want to be to Strathclyde University? It's in the city centre so I suggest you have a few options. Live in the city means no transport costs and there is a good mix of things to do. Glasgow has a lot of green places but in the city the closest large park is called Glasgow Green. Live in the south of the city means you probably travel by bus, train or bike. I suggest it can be cheaper than the city and has plenty of parks and places to eat etc but it's also got more of a community feel. Queens Park and Pollock Park are the main ones here. Live in the west end and the commute is possibly a walk, more likely underground or low level train, bike. Living costs can be higher and has lots to do. Population is mixed with some expensive areas mixed with students who are at Glasgow University (based in the west). Kelvingrove Park and the Botanical Gardens are here. Just to the east is Denniston. Probably the cheapest of the areas but still a great place. Lots of shops and cafes, trains, walks or bus to the University. Alexandra Park is lovely. Finding a place: Have a look at a website called Right Move or Zoopla. Both have apps on the app store. They can search properties for Sale and Rent. You can put in your criteria and then lookup the area. These will be mainly private land Lords, small companies and a few large complex accommodation. Normally gas and electricity you pay directly to the utility companies. Council tax (a local living tax) is free for students, you just register with the council and then provide student status. There are a lot of custom built (like 40- 100 rooms) flats that serve students. They are a bit like long stay hotels. . These come as a package so you get a room, bathroom and communal kitchen. They have full Internet, tv etc. Usually electricity, heating is all in the price. Some are direct with universitys and some are private companies. Like any city there can be good and bad areas but overall you should love Glasgow! by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 24th May 2021 9:18pm)

  • In Glasgow while in Tier 3 alcohol is only available outside. Indoors needs to close at 8pm. The rest of Scotland is in T2 and Once in T2 alcohol is allowed indoors till 10:30 when they have to close. Only 3 households can mix up to a max of 6 people. Indoor tables can only be reserved for 2 hours. It's roughly the same in T1 but till 23:00. The intent is to be in T1 by then but I think Glasgow will be in T2. by ApplicationAware1039 (Wed 26th May 2021 11:45am)

  • Based on your question I wonder if massive speed is what you need. Best wifi? No matter your provider and speed wifi is managed by your router. If you have an old flat with sandstone then best wifi might need a mesh system like 'bt wholehome' this is a wifi system that plugs into your router and even if not in bt will make you have better WiFi If however your question is best Internet provider then you need to run a search on a comparison site on your address. In honesty virgin, bt fibre or hyperoptic are great but do you need it, can you get it and can you afford it? Its a bit like asking best car. Well a ferrari might be best but you may not be able to afford it and you might not need 200mph speed. Can I suggest that you have 2 options. 1 fibre to the cablinatev(40-70gb) / broadband (up to 24mb). This will all be supplied by the phone line into your house but lots of providers piggy backing on that coper cable. Use a price comparison and select on speed and price, they all use the same phycable. Typically good for a family and 20 ~ 40 devices with Netflix, gaming and phone browsers. The Ford mondao. Fiber to the home (virgin, hyper optic, ftth) much more expensive but much faster. Useful if 4 people are all streaming and gaming together. The ferrari. by ApplicationAware1039 (Fri 28th May 2021 11:02pm)

  • I cycle about 5k a year around Glasgow. I have hit some terrible potholes that appear overnight on roads I know well. I have also been on some terrible cycling lanes that are unsuitable or just not usable. I have tried using the twitter and the report a problem links. They don't give a fuck. Even the pop us lanes are box ticking and they really don't care one bit. by ApplicationAware1039 (Wed 2nd Jun 2021 10:24pm)
  • These pop us cycle lanes are really an accident waiting to happen. The bus stop thing is terrible as you can't go past at a normal speed. They also pool water and mud (Clarence Drive) at the ramp is dangerous. A lot in the city have the hedgehogs but they are scattered all over the place by busses and hgv's again dangerous. A lot get swept 2 or 3 times a year but the sweepers are not meant for cycling lanes and actually leave a line of debris that is slippery or if unswept they are full of debris front the road. I find some really dangerous and have to move onto the road which has its own dangers as cars have no idea what cyclists are there when there is a cycle lane (which is un usable). There are also some lanes that cars park in or as so narrow that you can't fit in it. Cars think the painted lane will protect you a nd don't give space. Glasgow really does not understand cycling. There are some lanes that are great but I would say for every good 1 there are 3 OK and 10 bad. by ApplicationAware1039 (Wed 2nd Jun 2021 10:39pm)

  • I think pubs will be as busy as they are allowed to be. Service is still table service so they can't have people standing watching the game. Because of the fan zone I think people will want to be out watching the games where possible but with limits on pubs capacity I expect lots of people trying to find a place to watch the game. For the fans at Hampton they have to be in hours early so not rhe usual roaming fans in the city and bars. But post game those fans will need to travel home or to some local bars. by ApplicationAware1039 (Wed 9th Jun 2021 12:14pm)

Hillhead bookclub and Parlour on Vinecom St. Probably have to book outside but lots of tables and good if the weather is decent. Odd choice : the three Craws next to Jordanhill train station on Crow Road. • Out of intrest, What did you see wrong with the Wyndford? I have never stayed there but have walked around it. It's an old estate with a mix of high and low flats and some 2-3 story flats. I have a mate that lives there and have never heard of big problems. Its next to a brilliant tesco metro, the viking pub and McDonald's plus other takeaways etc. That main road has busses heading into Glasgow City very frequently. I would say every 5-10 minutes you will get a bus into the city. Walk 10 minutes and you are on the kelvin River walkway that leads to botanical gardens and kelvingrove Park. The botanics are lovely. 15 min walk and you are in the west end with loads of bars, restaurants etc. A big mix of people here and a good day or night out. • If you can afford to live in the west end then Glasgow University is very close. Its a big campus so depends where you will be studying and while a lot of Glasgow is flat the main building at Glasgow is on a small hill! Of you can live in the west end I would suggest walking if your fitness can manage. I cycle and would say 1 mile is quick on a bike that you have to lock up etc when starting / ending and I think if you take that into account then walking is the same time. However if greater than a mile then go for a bike. Glasgow is not a great city for cycling but we do have some decent infrastructure dependent on where you are. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 27th Jun 2021 8:59am)

  • Yes they are but it depends how the gaps in your flat are. A mouse can get in a hole the size of a pencil. These buildings were built over 100 years ago and all have a void below them, this is an open space that is ventilated by air bricks (the metal covering on the front and back of the ground floors). You can t block these because the void would quickly build up condensation and result in damp. The walls also have a gap behind the plaster to the brickwork. This is to allow the building to get air to circulate and is again about stopping damp. Once these get blocked the ground floor flats tend to see damp walls near the skirting boards. These are ideal routes for mice. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 4th Jul 2021 12:19pm)
  • Every red and blond sandstone will have a void. Some can be 12 inches deep, in my flat in can walk under it. If people fill up the void or block the air bricks they very quickly get damp and rot. This leads to the wood decaying and expensive bills. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sun 4th Jul 2021 5:59pm)
  • Rent - 350 to 450. Assuming you have found some places so know this is right. Council tax, if your partner is unemployed make sure to apply for a discount. Gas and electricity - the more modern the flat the cheaper gas will be. Gas will generally cost more than electricity in cold months so think £80 a month average for the year. If renting then no need for building insurance but you shoud think about contents insurance for your stuff. Say £80 a year Budget for food say 50-80 a week. • I will start with a few ideas. I live in the west end so a lot of my choices are biased to where in the city I live. The west end is where Glasgow University is so you can look on a map. Museums, we have. Lot and almost every one is free! Personally I like Kelvingrove, the huntarien, The Riverside but we have lots and they range from the old to the modern. https://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/museums#venues Next up, our Parks in Glasgow are worth a visit. Glasgow is sometimes referred to as The Dear Green Place because of the Novel by archie hind and its parks (read the novel if you get a chance). A few parks to visit are, Kelvingrove, botanical Gardens, pollock Park, Bellahouston (burrell collection Charles rennie macintosh) and Alexandra Park. Pubs. In Scotland we love our pubs and I guess depending on your age, taste in music, sport, type of drink then people could recommend many different establishments to go to. At least go to Ashton Lane a small street of bars and a boutique cinema. Other things you might miss if you did not know. SWG3 is a large indoor and outdoor events place. Everything from graphite exhibits and outdoor food events to full on 5am night clubs. If its back on even I recommend you try (with a group) Bongos Bingo! Look up Charles Rennie Macintosh, the lighthouse, the science centre, the Universitys but for a tour I would say Glasgow Uni, the necropolis (we have a few but the one next to the centre), Buchanan St for shopping (princess Square you could walk past and miss). There is loads I have missed but also remember we are a 40 minute train ride to Loch lomond one way and Edinburgh (Scotlands capita) the other. The thing about Edinburgh is you need to visit, it's got a castle right in the city centre! But it's completely different city from Glasgow. Lastly, welcome! We are a mostly friendly bunch and don't be surprised if strangers just speak to you when they hear your accent. And don't worry about asking for help and directions, most people will be great. by ApplicationAware1039 (Sat 17th Jul 2021 8:51am)

  • What sort of area do you want to live in? Are you looking for something city centre or west end to get lots of bars, cafe, restaurants, cinema? Or are you looking to live a bit further away to be quieter, or full suburbs with a journey to get to most things? Personally I live in the west end so check out Hyndland, Partick, woodlands. Loads going on, bars and museums, parks etc, well connected to train and underground. Definitely a flat not a house at £700. Warning make sure there is dedicated parking or you can apply for a street permit as most of the west end is metered. by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 19th Jul 2021 11:07pm)
  • Think about where you want to end, not start. Also start time is important. If ending in the city then start at bridge St because West St and Shields Rd have the longest walks to bars. Just watch what your neighbours do about taking them out. https://glasgow.gov.uk/collectiondays Electricity, you will end up paying as the old user will have told thier supplier the closing readings. You will get a bill of you do nothing but I would suggest you find a company, sign up and take a photo today of the readings. I would just close the bill at your old flat. Council tax you technically do pay both but can register the old palce as empty. I would use the moving house link on the council website or just call them. • They are not uniform or factored. The home owners have all put them in over time and there are still a few who don't have a space of you look further up. The deeds on the houses are not conclusive on if the house does own the spaces but the council don't stop people paving them. The council don't do any maintenance on the areas either and leaves residents to maintain the grass. Currently there is a consultation looking at introducing parking restrictions in Broomhill and that includes Churchill Drive. A group of residents lead by Broomhill residents association have asked for clarification from the city Council neighbourhood and sustainability department on the 'hard standing'. The concern they have is parking bays could be introduced on the road over the drive ways. The exception are end terraced houses who have driveways right up to the house. One thing of note is the painted white lines indicating no parking are only on the driveways of the end terrace houses and not the mid terrace ones. by ApplicationAware1039 (Wed 18th Aug 2021 9:48pm)
  • It will end up with a one way system if parking is introduced. Here is what the council say about the possible restrictions ' parking controls are being developed for the Thornwood and Broomhill area and Council officers are aware of the parking issues currently being experienced. If the parking controls are successfully introduced indiscriminate/obstructive and commuter parking in the area will be eradicated by maximum stay restrictions in parking bays and these parking issues currently being experienced on many streets will be tackled at junctions, accesses, driveways, narrow roads, etc., with the introduction of No Waiting at Any Time restrictions out with marked parking bays. Other measures would be introduced to maximise parking and traffic flow in the area including one way streets and mandatory 20mph speed limit in the residential roads off Crow Road, Clarence Drive and Broomhill Drive. • That's a terrible state of affairs and I am sorry that has happened to you both. I can't help unfortunately but it might help if people understood your budget for accommodation. Also while just getting a roof over your head is #1 priority it might also help to know what university? Reason I ask is there are 3 main ones and while not hugely far apart the location might help as 2 are in the city and one in the west end. Also what's your view on travel to university? Could a place outside Glasgow with good transport work or is city location needed? Hope you find something. Sorry I can't help. by ApplicationAware1039 (Wed 8th Sep 2021 7:18pm)
  • You should be able to find something for that in and near the university of Glasgow.. However the problem is its the time of year that everyone is moving into accommodation. I don't know anything about this but there is a lot of dedicated mass accommodation in the west end near the uni. Sort of hotel rooms for students. • Cycle lanes are hit and miss. Some brilliant ones and some terrible. The main issue is they are not well connected so you need to go on the road. The really bad ones are so dangerous you need to cycle in traffic instead. Sometimes car drivers don't understand this. Pedestrians are generally fine but still not used to bikes and they just walk out at junctions and bike lanes. I think you need to take extra care as a cyclist in parts of Glasgow Standards of cycling. I would say there is a mix of cyclists out there. Generally cyclists are well behaved but I am seeing more and more bad use of the road. Personally I think the massive spike in battery assist bikes, , especially the deliveroo types, is leading to some terrible and dangerous situations. I also think a lot of them are 'chipped' and are especially mopeds on pavements. Cars and drivers are not good in Glasgow (not everyone but enough to make it scary being on a bike). I have cycled in a lot of city's and Glasgow is the worst for car and bikes. The drivers either don't know or don't care about sharing the road and a lot don't know how to overtake a bike safely. Not everyone, but in Glasgow I notice it so much more than anywhere else. I cover 5k miles a year around Glasgow on my bike. by ApplicationAware1039 (Thu 28th Oct 2021 10:03pm)

If you stay on the same train you can go to Balloch which is Loch Lomond but with the shit rain and Weather you might not see much. Personally the bars I woukd suggest for craft beer and Soccer are in the west end (use the underground / subway) to go to 'Coopers' and 'in deep' (kelvin Bridge underground). Or Tennents, Brell, the chip (Hillhead underground). I can't comment on any pub having FAST WiFi however in most bars there will be some WiFi and registration even for international mobiles shoukd work. You wil limit yourself a lot if you rule out of good places just cause a wardrobe won't fit. Which, if I now understand what people have told me, I can ignore and give 28 days notice. However they could also use the the same 28 days to get me out if they want to sell - which I completely accept. It's only for if we both have 28 days notice. Is that what you are pointing out? I got my kids into George Square and then Glasgow Green on bikes and they loved it but getting back was much harder due to incomplete lanes. However I agree that the current bus gates are simply a cash cow. Poor signposting and clearly designed to meet minimum requirements but catch as many as possible. On a desktop Ram is simple, it's got a clip on both sides. Once open the ram pulls out. The new stick goes in the same way and there is a notch in it to make sure it goes in the right direction. Then just put the clips back. Any YouTube video will show this. https://uk.crucial.com/ Hard drive depends if going from a spinning drive to an SSD might need a little caddy or screws as they are physically different size. Then the power and connector can be different but a desktop will have spare power connectors. It seems to be accurate searching by post code and I like the slider you can user to see hour by hour. When I am out cycling I use Windfinder that's on Google play. This is useful to see the direction and strength of the wind especially when out on the bike. Even in July the winds can be strong. I turned up at a viewing on time but the family were showing the property and asked I wait in the kitchen as the last viewer was still there and 'more likely to be able to afford this place'. I has turned up in old jeans and a hoodie but I had spent the day decorating and just put on anything. Then again while showing me round they asked if I could afford it. Also had a car come out a side street on South St not even looking at oncoming traffic and I was less than 5m away. by ApplicationAware1039 (Tue 2nd Aug 2022 12:03am)

  • How the discount is applied is different depending on who you are with, if you are a standard or smart meter and if how you pay. Pre pay customers are also different. They are not all a simple bill credit. However I am with Scottish power they should have sent you an email explaining how your discount works. They also have an FAQ page if you did not get the discount. The answer is on this page. https://www.scottishpower.co.uk/ebss#:~:text=Meanwhile%2C%20the%20EBSS%20is%20a,discounts%20are%20applied%20to%20you. I am a standard meter customer (not smart), on monthly direct debit. The way it works for this type of customer is they take the full amount and then 5 working days later they will send the £66 to your bank as a refund. What I don't understand is why all companies did not continue to take direct debit as normal and then apply the £66 to your bill. After all the point of the £400 is to cover some of the price increase. Seems strange that some reduced customer direct debits and some , like Scottish power, even returned it to bank accounts for people to blow on booze or whatever.. by ApplicationAware1039 (Thu 20th Oct 2022 8:02am)
  • If you are just talking shops then you have a point but they are competing against out of center shopping centres. But in my view the area around paisley abbey always looks great and has stuff on. I was passing through last night and they are settling up for a whole center Halloween party . Nothing like this in Glasgow as far as I can see. Same around Christmas. I have traveled from Glasgow with the kids for the stuff in paisley as Glasgow does not offer this. by ApplicationAware1039 (Fri 28th Oct 2022 12:46am)
  • The thing about the signal strength on your phone is it's not showing you what you think it is. In the old days of 2g when there was only phone calls it was simple. The bars related to the signal to make a call. The lower the more likely the call cut up Now you have much more to think about and one 5 bar chart does not cut it, but put 3 or 4 different bars and no one understands it. You could have a bar indicator that shows you are connected to the mast for voice / SMS Then a next for data connectivity Another for quality of that data connectivity And another for speed. That's 4 bar charts but phones only have 1. It's nothing to do with pubs in town secretary jamming your phone, why would they? It's city centre buildings with sold brick and masts that are on top not able to penetrate well when the masts are high up. The real reason is people don't want mini call antenna put inside buildings, on lap posts or in places they could make a difference. Also the wavelength signal that carries data at best rates also can't penetrate walls easily to carry fast data where as 2g voice at 900Mhz can get into buildings but can't carry fast data. I used to work for a mobile company who had an old sandstone building with basement rooms in a city. They put mini antenna in the office on the walls. Signal was great. by ApplicationAware1039 (Thu 3rd Nov 2022 8:31pm)

In a lot of car parks now the system has a camera that reads your registration when you get a ticket as you enter. When you pay and drive out another camera reads your registration and knows you paid so opens the barrier. by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 28th Nov 2022 8:23am)
  • I don't know anything about Scottish power but I used to work for a mobile company and if a customer turned up at the head office they had a phone line into a complaints team in the call centre. The reception team would connect them but no one came down to speak to them. The main thing to consider is most head office buildings don't have customer service staff in them. Additionally the people in head office probably can't access customer accounts. They are there to manage different things for the company. by ApplicationAware1039 (Wed 21st Dec 2022 3:09pm)

Yes you can do it faster but that's fast drinking and some stops have a walk to get to a boozer. Managing a group of 25 people will be hard enough and getting them all served will add even more time to your bar visits. You will probably find groups that size will run out of time. • In the UK you can buy a ticket from any Train operator. There are also ticket only companies. Some routes have more than one operator running. For example going London to Glasgow has a few different operators running. If you buy any time train tickets they can cost more but you can then get on any Train from any operator. If you book specific trains you need to get that exact train. Your trip from Liverpool to Glasgow will likely go from Liverpool to a station like Wigan NW or Preston on a train operator called Northern. These are fairly cheap but not great trains. Then from Wigan NW or Preston to Glasgow change onto an operator called Avanti. These are fast and comfortable. There is another operator called Trans Pennine but the trains are a bit smaller and you could end up standing. You could buy a ticket that covers the whole trip or two singles between the stations. Sometimes this can be cheaper even on the same train. Buy tickets in advance is always cheaper and after 9.30am is cheaper. When buying I use Trainline as it's the most usable and has an app that shows live train location, delay etc. However they have a transaction fee. You can buy the tickets for both legs even on different operators on any Train website.you could even use a train operator site that's not part of the journey to buy the ticket. Personally I would lookup Trainline to figure out the trip. Trainline even shows you best price for split journey. Then buy on Avanti, Northern or Trans Pennine website, book. singles to split the journey and coat. by ApplicationAware1039 (Mon 20th Feb 2023 12:10am)

If they don't the others who mod bikes can make more money and take the jobs. I have seen them go up hills without pedaling and take off from lights. I followed one from the city one day and even though I can maintain 18 MPH on my bike this guy left me behind. They are meant to only assist pedal up to 15mph. Carlisle as lots have said you can buy a ticket and use ScotRail (this service is 2+ hours), TransPennine or Avanti are about 1 hour. Price for all is similar and there are 2 trains every hour.. If you book in advance you can save tickets to the app of any of these providers or Trainline which is a ticketing app for all. You can also collect physical tickets at the station if pre booked as you get a collection code.. you might need to use the ticket office to collect with a non UK card rather than a self service When booking your return especially on different days it's often cheaper to book two single journeys .
