  • Definitely contact the school. Tell them you have camera footage of it and if it doesn’t stop you’ll go to the newspapers. Can guarantee they’ll be appalled at the potential bad publicity and will give the pupils a good kick up the erse. by jeelio (Thu 14th Mar 2019 11:34pm)
  • Sure but I said tell them you have footage rather than actually have it. by jeelio (Thu 14th Mar 2019 11:56pm)
  • That’s it. And they say that they’ll send an undercover cop to your house to collect the cash in person so they can mark it. The scam relies on the fact that when you call a BT landline then only the person that initiates the call can actually terminate the call within a certain time frame. It used to be several minutes but it’s been massively reduced recently thankfully. Basically they ask you to hang up and then immediately call 999 to verify the whole thing, but they’re still actually on the line just playing the sound of a dialling tone down the line and so you’re not actually “calling” anyone back. They’re still there. They then pretend to be the police again. Quite a smart scam to be fair, can see how people are falling for it. by jeelio (Sat 16th Mar 2019 11:01pm)
  • Have you considered being a really bad Judo instructor? by jeelio (Sat 16th Mar 2019 11:09pm)
  • Absolutely. My folks are pretty old and tech phobic so I got them one of those BT devices that screens all their calls. Basically if they get a call from a number it doesn’t recognise then the caller has to say their name and purpose first and press a number which is then rang through and they’re allowed to accept or decline it. Certainly 100% blocks all the non human robo calls anyway which amounts to 99% of spam calls. by jeelio (Sat 16th Mar 2019 11:17pm)
  • I’m really not sure, sorry, but I’d expect/hope so. Best contact them directly mate by jeelio (Sun 17th Mar 2019 12:37am)
  • I think we all need to see a copy of these messages first ;) by jeelio (Mon 18th Mar 2019 7:20pm)
  • Did he seriously raise £100 grand? Wow people are crazy. Saw a video a month or so ago about him refusing to pay the £800 fine even... by jeelio (Tue 19th Mar 2019 7:26pm)
  • Wow up to 200 grand now. That’s like a good 10 years net salary for most now by jeelio (Tue 19th Mar 2019 10:52pm)
  • Shame they don’t sell ball-gags too cos they could have called it Florist Gimp by jeelio (Wed 20th Mar 2019 10:18pm)

  • Email lol. Phone them ffs by jeelio (Sun 24th Mar 2019 9:30pm)
  • The letters aren’t sent recorded delivery so there’s no evidence you’ve received them. For that reason they can’t chase you up. I’ve ignored about 10 in the last 20 years by jeelio (Mon 25th Mar 2019 6:22pm)
  • It’s the same outside the central stations in Amsterdam, Rome etc. A lot of people traffic brings lots of beggars. Not sure what could be done about it by jeelio (Sat 30th Mar 2019 5:36pm)
  • Makes sense that you’d have to re-apply for it each year because a significant percentage of students drop out. Don’t have a problem with that by jeelio (Sun 31st Mar 2019 12:26pm)
  • If it increased by 32 to get to 60 then it was originally 28. The fact that 32 is greater than 28 should tell you instantly that it’s a greater than 100% increase. 114% as the other commenter said. by jeelio (Sun 31st Mar 2019 3:39pm)
  • True but if selling food is your bread and butter (pun intended) then you’d hope they were also on the ball with these things by jeelio (Thu 4th Apr 2019 5:14pm)
  • Maybe cleaner the day before the next inspection! Unless they do a follow up a few days after by jeelio (Thu 4th Apr 2019 5:11pm)
  • Auld cunt here. It used to be the main shopping street in Glasgow. They made half of it a pedestrian precinct in the mid 80s and that really cemented it as the place to go. It looked very posh at that time. Buchanan Street, which is probably #1 nowadays, barely existed back then until they pedestrianised that about 10 years later. But to answer your question, Virgin records was there after it moved from union street. Glasgow’s main cinema - The ABC - other than the now closed Odeon on renfield street was there. The ABC is now a club/music venue I believe but I’m clearly out of touch. The outdoor (hiking etc) shops, camera shops, clothes shops were all there. It’s weird how things have shifted. Even Argyll st is pretty much a ghost town now by jeelio (Sat 6th Apr 2019 10:22pm)
  • Ubiquitous chip by jeelio (Sat 6th Apr 2019 10:28pm)
  • Not necessarily a bad thing, but just so you know - Rangers is there so it’ll be extremely busy a few times a month by jeelio (Sat 6th Apr 2019 10:31pm)
  • Auld cunt here again. I recently joined Instagram and have had about 50 Glasgow based coke and grass dealers add me. And about 5 or so counterfeit notes folk too. Glasgow prop, Glasgow plugs, Glasgow weed, Glashow 420, Glasgow notes etc etc Is this normal or can they tell I’m clearly a degenerate? by jeelio (Sat 6th Apr 2019 10:36pm)
  • Ha I saw Robocop there when it was an 18 and I was a fair bit younger. You have 20 seconds to comply. I think you’re right about the Buchanan galleries though actually - that’s probably the turning point by jeelio (Sat 6th Apr 2019 10:45pm)
  • Ah of course, so it did by jeelio (Sun 7th Apr 2019 6:03pm)
  • To be fair, this story does do the rounds every year or two. It’s like the chuggy and razor blades on playground chutes or the nails up through swimming pool flumes. Hopefully just urban myths but you never know. Pretty difficult to stop your dog eating stuff tbh by jeelio (Mon 8th Apr 2019 10:37pm)
  • We tried mate but your maw refused to have any more guys in the room pummelling her. She said 30 was her max at one time. Shame by jeelio (Tue 9th Apr 2019 12:36am)
  • My wee one and her pals make slime all the time. She learned from YouTube where’s there’s tons of recipes. Typically involves bi-carb, PVA glue (can buy massive tubs on amazon cheaply, as can with the bicarb) and an activator like contact lense solution or laundry starch. Then she’ll add food colouring or wee beads of some sort. Check online for more precise details as it’s all about the quantities and so goes wrong frequently. She just plays with it but if this is for a prank like pouring over someone then although PVA is water based it’s probably a bad idea. by jeelio (Wed 10th Apr 2019 1:20pm)
  • But the article states he went through a broker that failed to ask him anything about that. Presumably the insurer is ok but the broker seems to have screwed up by jeelio (Wed 10th Apr 2019 9:11pm)
  • I mind back in the early 2000s it was having trouble with its licence or something and they declared to the council that the pole dancing poles were not actually there for dancing with but were put there to help disabled people hold on to!! by jeelio (Sun 14th Apr 2019 12:32pm)
  • Obviously done as a cover story but wouldn’t surprise me if they make a few quid on the side to blokes trying to impress their potential one night stand with a red rose by jeelio (Sun 14th Apr 2019 8:31pm)
  • Bastards. If it makes you feel any better then here’s my story: I had a big 4WD drive car when I blew the head gasket on the motorway one day. The engine was knackered but my mechanic mate did something - I think adding a treatment of some kind - that said would give me another 20 miles of use. Took it straight to Arnold Clark and traded it in. It passed their quick test and I concluded the sale pronto. Wouldn’t normally do something like that but they’re cunts. by jeelio (Mon 15th Apr 2019 12:44pm)
  • In case you didn’t know, the direction of the prevailing winds varies with latitude but you’re right that it’s westerly in Europe. by jeelio (Tue 16th Apr 2019 5:38pm)
  • They were on that list that was posted last week about failed health inspections so it might just be a PR stunt by jeelio (Wed 17th Apr 2019 2:18pm)
  • Not a chance you’d be able to do this for structural reasons, foundation underpinning etc, but mainly for the legal liability you’d have for every other flat in the tenement and the lengthy process getting every one of them to sign off on the idea. Their mortgages, title deeds and insurance would all be affected. Also, if your tenement is terraced - as most are - then it would potentially affect everyone on the street. Unless you own all the flats in your building I can’t see it happening. by jeelio (Fri 19th Apr 2019 2:42pm)
  • Happy hour at Dunkin’ Donuts by jeelio (Fri 19th Apr 2019 10:19pm)

  • * Bodhi “If you want the ultimate, you’ve got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It’s not tragic to die doing what you love.” Still the best movie ever made. by jeelio (Wed 24th Apr 2019 6:15pm)
  • Can everyone local please check their bathroom sink by jeelio (Fri 3rd May 2019 5:40am)
  • Seriously, though, I hope you find him. They’re known for going on extended wanders sometimes especially if someone is feeding him or there’s a cat nearby in heat. If he’s stuck somewhere you can bet he’ll be very vocal until someone rescues him. Good luck by jeelio (Thu 2nd May 2019 10:03pm)
  • Melting pot guys or Harri/Dominic by jeelio (Sun 5th May 2019 10:52pm)
  • Just remember that you can put in multiple bids so always start as low as possible. Unless the property is going to a closing date you’re as well offering no more than the home report value. This is a mistake a lot of first time buyers make because they listen to the estate agent who, remember, is working for the seller and is in their interest to con you in to making the highest offer. I got my current place 45K under the home report value. To be fair it needed a lot of work by jeelio (Tue 7th May 2019 10:51am)
  • There’s actually just one pair of air max doing the rounds but every time one of them OD’s someone else steals their shoes. Then they get to wear them for a few hours until they pass out themselves and the cycle continues. Every junkie in town has had a go now by jeelio (Thu 9th May 2019 3:50pm)
  • Sounds like you haven’t even requested the home reports yet. They’ll contain a valuation done by an independent surveyor. Your mortgage lender will probably instruct their own mortgage valuation but the home report is a good starting point as to its value. Phone up and get a copy. by jeelio (Fri 10th May 2019 12:58pm)
  • 250k will go a long way so will depend exactly what you’re after. With that kind of money you won’t have to live in a flat. You’ll be able to afford an actual proper house and have a bit of freedom by jeelio (Mon 20th May 2019 1:09am)
  • An MRI is essentially a scan. It’s comparable to a blood test. It doesn’t cure or treat you in any way. It’s a diagnostic procedure. Chiropractic treatment has been extremely heavily analysed and each time has shown to be absolute nonsense. Having said that, admittedly, the placebo effect is very very real. If you think you’re being treated for an ailment then you tend to feel better regardless. The laughably ridiculousness of homeopathy is a classic example. People genuinely swear by it believe it or not. I’m genuinely glad that chiropractory helps you, in the same way I enjoy a stage hypnotist making people think that they are chickens by jeelio (Mon 20th May 2019 1:21am)
  • He’s an absolute scammer. The reason so many chiropractors are Aussies is because it’s actually a so-called legitimate course you can study over there - albeit in second rate colleges. I got sent there with my works health insurance. When you arrive for your first appointment you have to fill in a questionnaire. The first question is genuinely “How many sessions do you think you’ll need to help you?” and “How much money do you think you should spend to fix your back”. Classically trying to see up front how much they can scam you. He insisted he wouldn’t try and treat me without an x-ray which costs £100. I asked for an email copy of it and they said they would be another £75!!! by jeelio (Mon 20th May 2019 1:30am)

  • Wow that’s great money. Starting to think I’m being shafted now! I’ve got 21 years (post compsci degree) work experience as a developer and don’t make that kind of money. I’ve always avoided the financial/insurance/bank type places, though, due to the perceived boredom of the work. I’ve been in games/animation/3d/agency places mainly which I suppose don’t pay as well but are more interesting and involve less red tape. by jeelio (Sun 26th May 2019 5:30pm)
  • Do you have a source on that? Seems to me to be from the recent internet trolling age by jeelio (Mon 27th May 2019 12:52am)

  • Nah he just needed more gear by jeelio (Tue 4th Jun 2019 6:00pm)
  • There’s ways of doing it I think. My mate has a few buy-to-lets. He does them on interest-only mortgages and has set up a ltd company for his wife to receive the income. All legit and the first 12 grand is tax free. I don’t know much about it but he seems to be doing ok out of it by jeelio (Sun 9th Jun 2019 1:21pm)
  • Prices are in euros. What’s the Glasgow connection? by jeelio (Wed 12th Jun 2019 10:02pm)
  • I think this is reasonably common - I’ve always added a random amount in case another bidder also did that, like £102.99 by jeelio (Fri 14th Jun 2019 8:46am)
  • I take my hat off to your neighbours for convincing you of that story. Bet the dog had cancer too. Absolute classic by jeelio (Sun 16th Jun 2019 11:41pm)
  • I’ve not heard of that guy since the late 80s/ early 90s so not sure if he’s still around. We knew of him as Billy Backwards from Milton but I’ve heard folk call him Harry Backwards too so who knows. Took a whole sheet of LSD in one go was the story I heard. by jeelio (Wed 19th Jun 2019 10:22am)
  • Have you thought about doing it yourself? It’s dead easy. You can get a bottle of squirty powder stuff on amazon that you spray on the bike and they gradually die over the coming hours. They don’t chase after you and try to sting you like angry bees if that’s your concern. by jeelio (Wed 19th Jun 2019 11:23am)

  • Classic bullying of a girl. Get your boyfriend to tell him that if he as much as looks at you the wrong way ever again then you’ll wait until he’s left for the day and you’ll completely flood his flat. If you don’t fancy the confrontation then just “accidentally” flood him (loosen pipes under your bath or kitchen sink). Can guarantee you’ll never ever get any more hassle from him. by jeelio (Tue 25th Jun 2019 1:40am)
  • Exactly, and even if you did want to see news articles here then why would you want to specifically see the random ones that have been cherry-picked by a single user. The guy’s a loony by jeelio (Wed 26th Jun 2019 6:44pm)
  • 4 quid for Coco Jambo! One of the few 90s songs more annoying than Barbie Girl by jeelio (Sat 29th Jun 2019 10:36pm)

  • You’re correct that it’s not pronounced like Midge Ure but the singular is spelt midge generally by jeelio (Mon 1st Jul 2019 12:07am)
  • Only if you’re holding the phone. If it’s dash mounted it’s perfectly legal, just like using the radio. by jeelio (Sat 6th Jul 2019 1:28pm)
  • I’m no expert but my understanding is if you’ve moved your kitchen to a different room then I think that’s called a ‘change of purpose’ which requires planning permission. As you don’t have this I think you’ll have to apply for retrospective planning permission and hope it gets approved. If not, you’d unfortunately need to move it back. You’ll need to call the planning dept. by jeelio (Sat 6th Jul 2019 1:45pm)
  • FFS he got away meanwhile the poor glessed cunt gets lifted by jeelio (Sat 6th Jul 2019 10:31pm)

  • Off topic but does anyone know any swimming pools with dales (diving platforms) locally? I used to go to Kirky baths as a kid but that’s been demolished and rebuilt without them. And I think the ones in The Stevenson building have been removed. by jeelio (Fri 12th Jul 2019 2:19pm)

  • Border Collies are the most intelligent breed and require a lot of exercise - 4hrs plus a day. They need loads of mental stimulation or they go mental. I can’t imagine how stupid someone can be that would even own one whilst living in a flat. I don’t agree with dog owners living in flats anyway but border Collies, fuck me. I’d call animal cruelty... by jeelio (Tue 16th Jul 2019 12:01am)
  • Similar situation happened to me. Was driving over the Kingston Bridge North bound in the fast lane on the uphill section when my car completely died. No engine, electrics, nothing. Had tons of cars beeping at me until the police arrived about 10 minutes later and the cop starts swearing at me and calling me an idiot for parking there! by jeelio (Thu 18th Jul 2019 4:35pm)
  • There was an episode of Interceptors (or similar) once where they stopped a few people that were sitting in the middle lane. Every one of them said they thought that was the lane you’re supposed to drive in. Mind boggling! by jeelio (Thu 18th Jul 2019 4:41pm)
  • Typical arsehole of a cop. Mine was about 15 years ago - I was young and naive. If it was now there’d be a formal complaint on his record at a minimum. by jeelio (Thu 18th Jul 2019 5:24pm)
  • From the stories I’ve heard from friends etc you might have an awful lot of work to do with a new build. Unfortunately the quality of them is particularly low these days with corners cut at every opportunity. One of my mates has just given up on getting his snag list seen to after 3 years. Anyway, hope you have better luck. by jeelio (Fri 19th Jul 2019 3:04pm)

  • Just guessing but I think it’s used to track how people move around the mall between shops. Helps them position shops in the right places and they’ll be able to judge advert engagement like if a person sees an ad for a shop then do they then go to that shop. Other than that the only data i think they could capture is if your WiFi, Bluetooth & RFID is turned on and what mobile network you’re with. None of which are of much use. by jeelio (Sun 21st Jul 2019 1:32pm)
  • There’s two sides to the coin - if you’re a good upstanding Glaswegian then you support Rangers but if you’re a dirty wee inbred Catholic then you support Celtic. Or if you’re a good upstanding Glaswegian then you support Celtic but if you’re a dirty wee inbred proddy then you support Rangers. There’s no end to this pathetic argument by jeelio (Tue 23rd Jul 2019 9:28pm)
  • Aye Cafe Mao’s it was called - an East Asian restaurant. It was always rammed so not sure why it suddenly closed down. I nearly bought a flat adjacent to it in the early noughties and what put me off was they were about to start developing that bit of land and I didn’t want to live next to a building site for a few years. Strange that nothing has happened all these years later. by jeelio (Thu 25th Jul 2019 7:48pm)
  • I’ve been to a bunch of working mans social club type pubs down in Greenock/Gourock/Port Glasgow as my missus is from that way. They mostly do the mad queuing thing there. • The average person, sadly, has no idea what is in Nurofen. They see the adverts on TV saying that this brand of nurofen targets migraines or period pain without realising that both are just ibuprofen with different labels. You’ll find parents buying calpol for their kids instead of unbranded paracetamol. Same applies to almost anything really - people buying Kellogg’s Corn Flakes instead of unbranded supermarket brand which are probably made in the same factory and are the same product. • Ha that’s funny. Honestly, though, I’ve learned to not even waste my breath on these things in real life - people believe what they think they should believe and there’s no changing their minds. I’ve got one stuck to the outside of my bathroom window which hasn’t moved in weeks despite me punching fuck out the window every time I’m in there. • Like all graffiti, these things exist because of people with huge insecurities, perhaps because they didn’t get enough attention as a child and want to force people to see their shite attempts at art. We might not appreciate it but us seeing it is enough for their fragile egos to get a kick out of. They’re aware that they’re causing hundreds of pounds of damage but they don’t care because getting some attention is more important to them. I went for lunch there about a year or 2 ago and I’m pretty sure you can see the indoor paddock thing from the restaurant. There’s also doors out from the restaurant where you can walk over and watch folk riding the horses. I was there at lunchtime on a weekend and there was maybe 2 or 3 people (teenage girls I think) horse-riding and they came over to the gate and we could pat them (the horses, not the girls!) by jeelio (Mon 19th Aug 2019 6:03pm)

They’ll also ask you how bad it is has got (I.e. suicidal thoughts). They’ll probably suggest something non drug based initially like exercise, counselling, CBT but if you just want drugs they’ll probably give you them. • I got a CD diagnosis about 7 years ago myself. You’re right - eating out is difficult/risky as most people don’t understand cross-contamination. On the plus side, EU food labelling in shops is now excellent compared to when I was diagnosed. You should have been given a free membership to the coeliac UK charity - basically the governing body. Sign up with them if you haven’t already. They have a list of ‘coeliac uk accredited restaurants’ that you can look at where they’ve passed the necessary tests/education. You can also call them for free advice and speak to dieticians etc. There’s also a coeliac uk Glasgow division that arrange burns suppers and things like that throughout the year. I can put you in touch with them if you can’t find them. To be honest you’re probably imagining the staff being arsey. I always used to feel like that at first as I felt guilty and like I was being a nightmare customer but they’re used to it. Be prepared to be glutened, though, any time you take the risk sadly. • You probably know a lot more than most considering you work in homeless accommodation so if you can be bothered answering then I’m just wondering - are the majority of the beggars in the town actually homeless? I suspect they are but social media makes you think that some of them are ‘at it’, particularly the Romani ones. You always hear stories about them getting picked up at the end of the day in a fancy car but who knows if that’s just racist anecdotes. If they are homeless then are we lacking shelters? What makes them not eligible for shelters? Is it in their favour not to go to shelters as it limits their benefits or whatever? Are the shelters rife with dealers? I’d imagine so but what’s your thoughts on shooting galleries (safe hygienic needle places for shooting up)? What can we do as random citizens to help the genuine homeless, the addicts? Who is worth donating too or volunteering for? I’m out on the piss tonight so excuse the naive ramble... by jeelio (Wed 2nd Oct 2019 10:57pm)

  • I was there last night. Shockingly bad. It went like this: Arrived for our 5:30pm time slot. And queued in the rain for 45 minutes then another 20 minutes queue inside the door. This can probably be blamed on people turning up at the wrong time though. Then inside all that happens is the lights are off and there are Christmassy spot lights everywhere as you walk around the art gallery in the dark following arrows in long queues wondering if this is it or if there’s something cool to see somewhere at the end or something. There wasn’t. That was it! A dark slow walk, without a tour guide, and a couple of staff dressed up and a stupid video about elves or something going up in to space from a rocket in glen coe. Sound was too bad to make out the story in the video but that seemed to be it. Only other thing was a waste chute - the type that builders throw their rubble down in to a skip - that you could post a letter to Santa in to. Half hour queue for the pleasure of that one. Hadn’t been there since school so at least was hoping to see some of the exhibits but it was too dark to see anything. I think the people that put it on must be at it. by jeelio (Fri 6th Dec 2019 12:21pm)

Just make sure you research the breed you go for thoroughly - its’ exercise requirements, health issues, sociability, trainability, can it be left alone etc. - for example a beagle will need 2+ hours of exercise daily with scent/tracking work. Sadly there’s an awful lot of people out there that choose a breed based solely on its’ appearance and also make no attempt to train it. by jeelio (Thu 19th Dec 2019 8:56am)

  • The card issuers charge like 50p a transaction so if you’re buying a packet of crisps at 40p that the shop buy wholesale for 10p then they’ve made a loss of 20p on a single bag of crisps. This is the reason they often have a 10 quid minimum payment for cards cos then at least they’ll hopefully make some profit. The main problem is the greed of visa/MasterCard. As for the ATM, for a private company buying the machine, renting a bit of land, paying for the electricity, internet, back-end infrastructure, subscription services to the card issuers, their accountants, the wages of the guy that refills it with money, his van, road tax, insurance, security, petrol and all of that again with the servicing engineers etc.... then £2 quid a transaction is an absolute fucking bargain to get money out when the banks are shut. I’ve been an avid home cook for about ten years and, honestly, once you learn the basics it’s not rocket science in the slightest. I learned mainly from YouTube. You might find out you enjoy it and you’ll maybe meet some likeminded people too. If you cook in batches and freeze it then it’ll work out cheaper as well. Saw the results of 2 stabbings, neither of which made the papers so were presumably tramps sadly. One of them got stabbed outside republic bier halle and fell down a few of the stairs and there was blood cascading down in to the bar as I was on my way out up the stairs. Pretty nasty experience. • Picture the scene: The other fuckin week there, down the fuckin Q-club, playing pool. I'm playing like Paul-Fucken-Newman by the way. Givin the boy here the tannin of a lifetime. So it comes to there, during the last shot, the deciding ball of the whole tournament. I'm on the black and he's sittin' in the corner looking all fuckin biscuit-arsed. When this hard cunt comes in. Obviously fuckin fancied himself, like. Starts staring at me. Lookin at me, right fuckin at me, as if to say, "Come ahead, square go." You ken me, I'm not the type of cunt that goes looking for fuckin bother, like, but at the end of the day I'm the cunt with a pool cue and he can get the fat end in his puss any time he fucking wanted like. You can also offer to buy the materials direct yourself. They could go bankrupt a week later and you’ve lost everything otherwise. I went out with a Jewish girl here for a few years - seems like they mostly live around Newton Mearns, Giffnock, South Side and surrounding areas. • I’ve lived in both tenement and new build flats and to be honest my preference is new build. Tenements are visually more impressive - high ceilings, big rooms, often large bay windows, original wooden flooring whereas modern flats are smaller but tend to have better insulation, sound-proofing, electrics, heating and plumbing. Also less chance of having to foot a large bill for exterior repairs (roofs, gutters, subsidence) If you get a good tenement, though, a lot of these things will be near enough on-par. • The previous owners may have blocked the chimney with an inflatable balloon thing to stop draughts. If so that’ll obviously need removed. Getting a flue (flexible steel tube) put in is preferable as there’s then no chance of the fumes seeping through the chimney brickwork into other flats (and killing them) above you. You’ll also need to use smokeless fuel if you’re living in the city. Best bet would be to get a survey from a stove place and ultimately get a wood burning stove. • Depends on a few things. Nowadays the rising mains will go to all cold water taps and the combo boiler. The combo boiler then feeds the radiators and hot taps which you shouldn’t drink from. If you’re in a flat or older house then you’ll probably have a gravity fed system from the loft tank going to your bathroom hot and cold which you shouldn’t drink from. But you’re right, if you’re not 100% sure then only drink from the kitchen cold tap and don’t even use the hot tap for boiling pasta etc. Don’t know why you’re getting downvotes. Reddit is a weird place lol by jeelio (Mon 6th Apr 2020 3:14pm)
  • I’m not a expert but my understanding is they still do both direct (mains pressure) and indirect in new builds depending on the water pressure in the area. Wouldn’t surprise me even in a high pressure area if you’re putting up a big new build with 3 en-suites and 2 toilets that the water board would make you use an indirect system. Just guessing here though. The more I’m thinking about this the more I’m contradicting myself so yeah stick to the kitchen cold tap regardless of property age unless you’re sure! by jeelio (Mon 6th Apr 2020 5:28pm)

I can PM you the breeder if you want. One word of warning - they have fairly big exercise needs. At a minimum I walk him 2 hours a day, and that is off-lead in the countryside so he’s running the whole time back and forward etc. 2.5-3 hours off lead seems to fit him better though. If you’re planning on walking on-lead you’d need to double that. I’m lucky that I have some land that he can spend outdoors safely as well. One of the companies i worked for recently went in to administration and the lawyers charged £1500 per hour to look at it. They assigned a 21yr old, straight out of uni to do this. The company was Deloitte btw. Unbelievable scum. I’d suggest approaching a small independent company. You’ll still be massively scammed but that’s the nature of the lawyer beast. My niece recently graduated with a first in a top uni and was so disgusted with the post-degree interview process with the firms that she gave up ever practising law. • I did mine a few years ago with cat 6. If you have a modern house (i.e. timber frame and plasterboard) then it’s fairly easy with fishing cables that sparks use. An issue can be getting it past the insulation but if you use the same areas where the electrics are run then you can just pull the cables through. My walls are solid so I had to raggle a couple of walls with a wall chaser which is a super messy job. by jeelio (Tue 23rd Jun 2020 5:34pm)

  • Personally I would reassure your friend that what school you go to means fuck all. Whilst these schools may have teachers with greater qualifications, that doesn’t mean they’re more intuitive, affable or indeed better at teaching the same syllabus. I say this as someone that went to a primary school in a crappy area and high school for 1st and 2nd year until my mum married a guy with some money and I got sent to Kelvinside Academy for 3rd to 6th year. Obviously if you have learning or other issues you might benefit from a so-called better school but it definitely makes you more sheltered to the real world. And, perhaps paradoxically, there’s a lot more drugs there because they can afford to buy them. by jeelio (Thu 26th Aug 2021 2:34pm)
  • That’s interesting to know and wouldn’t surprise me given i hear that in the high ranking schools they dissuade you from sitting your exams if you fail the prelims, giving them an artificially high pass to fail rating by jeelio (Thu 26th Aug 2021 5:06pm)
  • That’s pretty shocking stuff. Most of the higher ranking schools are in affluent areas anyway where the parents can afford tutors. No surprise there that they’re highly ranked. • My missus interviews folk a lot. Sometimes it can take HR many weeks to reply. They won’t reject you until someone has actually accepted the job in writing and this can take a while because they’ll offer it to the strongest candidate who may haggle over pay etc. If they don’t accept the job for whatever reason then it’ll get offered to the second strongest candidate and so on. So you could even be the worst candidate and get offered the job lol, although they’d tend to readvertise if that was the case. There’s no harm chasing it up in general but if you think you’ll want to haggle then this can make you seem too keen. Depends what level on your career you are at. If it’s less than 10 years experience then you probably won’t be haggling much. by jeelio (Thu 2nd Sep 2021 6:41pm)

Strangely they were like £15 each at the start and then got cheaper and cheaper (and shitier) and then started getting better and more expensive again. Think they were up to about a tenner when I stopped. Wouldn’t recommend it, my brains definitely a bit fucked now but there’s a part of me that misses it all by jeelio (Thu 9th Sep 2021 6:26pm)

Round about 2004/2005 I think they were selling for a fiver a pill and my mate would buy a thousand for £600 so getting them for just 60p each. Definitely a lot of profit in it if you want to take the risk. Seems like everyone is punting coke these days but I’m so far out the scene now gladly I wouldn’t know. Well kinda gladly 😉 by jeelio (Thu 9th Sep 2021 11:16pm)

  • Ah. I went out with a Jewish girl for many years and the only religious thing she did was not have a Christmas tree (although still wanted presents) and made me go through the checkout when she wanted bacon. Wanted me to convert which ultimately ended things. Guess she was an atheist Jew too by jeelio (Fri 17th Sep 2021 8:32pm)
  • Ha yeah, I met and made friends with loads of the “Jew crew” as she called it - mainly around the Newton Mearns area as you’d imagine! A great bunch of folk but I felt it was more of a cultural and ethical thing rather than a believe thing. Her folks were pretty staunch though but I thought the whole conversion thing and getting “the chop” was a bit hypocritical which drove a wedge between us and her family by jeelio (Fri 17th Sep 2021 8:54pm)

  • Lots of options here from the other day https://www.reddit.com/r/glasgow/comments/pnzvit/gluten_free_options/ I’m a diagnosed coeliac but don’t eat out much so not really any use to you. When I do it’s almost always Indian curry’s which are almost guaranteed to be fine if you stick to chicken tikka starter, any curry main and rice. Presumably if you’re diagnosed then you’ll have membership of coeliac UK though which lists the accredited places where cross contamination shouldn’t be an issue by jeelio (Mon 20th Sep 2021 7:26pm)
  • Yeah you’re right, and the accredited list is very limited, presumably due to the cost of testing them. Ive pretty much given up eating out because you just can’t trust the kitchen 100% of the time and being ill for a month kinda sucks. The same chefs don’t work every shift of every day so even a good recommendation might not be great all the time. I understand though and appreciate it’s worth the risk for many and I hope you have some great experiences 👍🏻 by jeelio (Mon 20th Sep 2021 8:00pm)
  • Cheers! Yeah I’ve read that the villi can take a year or two to fully grow back which gives me the fear! It’s always tempting though. The only other mainstream place I tend to risk though is wagamama and it’s been fine going on about 20 odd visits. I’m sure you get them in England so you’ll know what to expect. • Ha ok, seems like a legal loophole. The people are definitely sex workers though. My recently divorced mate went to one fairly recently and apparently once you go in a bunch of girls come out and you choose which one you want. You’re right, though, that you’re paying for an amount of time, rather than an actual act of sex, although they’ll do whatever you want. Blair Street sauna was the one he went to. I’ve read the Google reviews and they are, well, interesting… by jeelio (Thu 23rd Sep 2021 11:34pm)

Nobody needs someone else deciding what they can or can’t read like we’re in a dictatorship. Can’t the mod that’s doing it be kicked off? by jeelio (Tue 28th Sep 2021 6:05pm)
  • Me and my siblings just did it for my aging folks from Simplicity Legal. I’d never done it before so don’t have anything to compare it to but they seemed good. Everything was done over Zoom which was handy. There’s something like a 8-10 month delay with getting it processed with the government btw but that applies to any company you’d use. You can do it yourself by downloading a template but we were worried we’d make an arse of it so just used a firm. I can dig out the price though if you’re interested by jeelio (Tue 28th Sep 2021 7:46pm)
  • It was £477 (£330+VAT + £81 submission fee) for 1 POA. Or Package deal for two mirror POAs at £822 (£550+VAT + 2x £81 submission fees). So it’s almost double for each attorney (the attorney is you, not the parent or whatever btw) Both my folks have dementia but my mum is considerably further gone so we had to get the GP to officially assess her and make sure she understood what was happening. The advice I got was do it as soon as possible as it’s much more difficult down the road if they can’t make the decision themselves. Just something to take in to account if you’re in the same boat… by jeelio (Tue 28th Sep 2021 8:59pm)

Loads of people, including me, tried to get a refund but were refused. There was a post on this sub about it at the time but dunno if it’s still there. Hopefully they’ve changed things this time but who knows? • Or cloned plates at the very least by jeelio (Sat 2nd Oct 2021 3:00pm)
  • Doesn’t work though nowadays. Any write off is logged on the system and the VIN number is stamped in a bunch of place so you can’t even do a cut and shut either. They’ll just strip it for parts or send it abroad by jeelio (Sat 2nd Oct 2021 3:16pm)

  • Aye that’s what I thought. He’d struggle to make anywhere near that with a tv series or stand up I’d imagine. I’ve never been on twitch but I’m guessing that’s money that folk (teenagers?) have donated to him? Kinda feel sorry for them if so by jeelio (Wed 6th Oct 2021 5:57pm)
  • Is there anyone foreign living in your block? Maybe they’ve not read your notice or don’t understand which bin is for what? Just seems like odd behaviour for someone to deliberately put in the blue bin and not the general waste one. Could well just be a crazy cat lady though! I’ve got 2 cats and, without question, every single cattery I’ve ever put them in was owned by extremely strange people by jeelio (Wed 6th Oct 2021 6:14pm)
  • I use the Paisley Thai Siam frequently and can confirm it’s outstanding. Very pricey though unfortunately by jeelio (Wed 6th Oct 2021 6:18pm)
  • Ah the main bins are elsewhere! Good chance of catching them though as it sounds like they’re actually walking the litter tray to the bin and tipping it out rather than pouring it in to a bin bag in their flat like a normal person. Maybe you could leave a roll of bin bags as a peace offering and ask them to at least use that in future. Shite solution but better than nothing by jeelio (Wed 6th Oct 2021 6:29pm)
  • Fair enough but if I’m buying a movie on prime video for a tenner it’s maybe a $200 million dollar movie that took a year to make and employed 500 people for half a year. I’m not paying a guy to get rich playing computer games in his bedroom for an hour. Each to their own though. Just seems a shame as the teenagers giving him money probably don’t have much themselves but are feeling compelled (you could say brainwashed but really it’s just normalised) to give him money for it by jeelio (Wed 6th Oct 2021 7:29pm)
  • Cool sounds good. I’m probably a generation older than you so it’s all new to me. Just wondering - see if you don’t donate any money, is the experience any different? Like do you get benefits from sending money? I watch a lot of YouTube and seems like everyone is pushing patreon or merch but that doesn’t affect much… by jeelio (Wed 6th Oct 2021 9:01pm)
  • You’ve lost many things? Not just in Glasgow but all around the world? Does your carer know that you’re on the internet just now all by yourself? In my 40 years I’ve back packed all around the world and never lost anything. And I say this as a heavy drinker and former drug taker. What the fuck is wrong with you? by jeelio (Thu 7th Oct 2021 12:56am)
  • Plasterers tend to fill their bucket up with water and rinse their tools in them at the end of the job so it was probably that murky water that they poured out. Not ideal but not as bad as you’d think by jeelio (Thu 7th Oct 2021 2:43pm)

  • Just curious, do you manually measure and then 3D model it or is there a 3D scanner thing you can use? by jeelio (Fri 8th Oct 2021 10:51pm)
  • Nice. What did the scanner set you back? We had a printer in my old work but we created everything either by 3D modelling or we had this cool iPhone attachment that could do 3D scans as you filmed and walked around the object. This was in 2017 - things have probably moved on since then a fair bit by jeelio (Fri 8th Oct 2021 11:26pm)
  • Don’t touch the ravioli, it’s garbage. You’re a genius Robert, you’re a genius. Are you going home early or are you coming in late? • Funny seeing that here - literally dived off the Port Charlotte pier this afternoon. Thought the distillery closed down a long long time ago though. I’ll need to read up on that by jeelio (Fri 15th Oct 2021 4:20pm)
  • Cheers mate was a cracking day. Bruichladdich’s are usually my go to but I hadn’t heard of this one. Apparently, even though the distillery closed in 1929, they’ve revived the brand and are just maturing the casks in Port Charlotte. Seems a bit funny but hey ho by jeelio (Fri 15th Oct 2021 9:31pm)
  • Ha brilliant! by jeelio (Sat 16th Oct 2021 1:32pm)
  • My understanding of money laundering here is that the directors on the limited company are earning a supposedly legit wage from the company but when you say they default on the loans and close the company then aren’t they banned from being a director for like 5 years? Do they just stay on in non-director positions under the new company? by jeelio (Sat 16th Oct 2021 1:43pm)
  • Saw them at the SECC about 15 or 20 years ago and thought the same by jeelio (Sat 16th Oct 2021 2:05pm)
  • I was just meaning about how the exact same people can ultimately receive the laundered cash legitimately if the owners are changing hands (on paper). For the actual laundering, I’m guessing that instead of them, say, actually selling 1000 legitimate products at £1, they say they’ve sold 10,000 of them. They now have £9000 in dirty cash they can launder by jeelio (Sat 16th Oct 2021 4:07pm)

  • If you’ve got an iPhone (and presumably on most phones) you can block all numbers that aren’t in your address book. Not an ideal solution in the long term as you’d miss calls from your GP or whatever but it might be worth trying it for a couple of weeks to see if they drop your number off their spam lists by jeelio (Tue 19th Oct 2021 12:54am)
  • Settings > Phone > Silence unknown callers by jeelio (Tue 19th Oct 2021 7:53am)
  • If you like gangster movies then I’d highly recommend Chopper. Anyway there’s a great scene where one of the gangsters has 2 highly trained attack dogs. The dogs are trained to kill anyone if a certain command is uttered. The guy has made up a bunch of dog bowls (for food and water) that he’s left lying around the perimeter of his property but on those bowls he’s put the attack command - a seemingly innocuous word like “rover” or “benji” or a similar sounding dog name. The idea being that a would-be burglar would try and befriend the dog using the name on the food bowl but end up being eaten. It’s a classic by jeelio (Thu 21st Oct 2021 1:49am)
  • Ha busted. It’s your so called wife’s account that does those posts by jeelio (Sun 24th Oct 2021 2:34pm)
  • Lived there for a few years until about 2011 and there was a kebab shop on Albert Drive near the corner with Darnley Street that - wait for it - didn’t sell kebabs! Weirdest experience ever being in there with my missus and the guy explaining that yes it was a kebab shop, and was called something kebabs but also that they didn’t sell kebabs. Surely 100% renewables would be a lifeline if that’s what they’re trying to promote by jeelio (Tue 26th Oct 2021 3:45pm)

  • Sorry to hear that mate and I’ve been there, believe me. I took fucking thousands of ecky’s throughout the 90s. Not sure if that was the cause but it was certainly my excuse. I’ve felt like I couldn’t enjoy anything. I could have won the lottery and felt absolutely nothing. Something that massively helped for me was 5-HTP supplements. If you’ve not heard of 5-HTP then it’s essentially a precursor to serotonin. That means when you take it, your body converts it into to serotonin. You take a single pill before you go to bed at night and wake up happy, full of hope and enthusiasm. Might take a few nights to get to that level but I basically have them in the house and take it when I need it - maybe a handful of times a year. Do your own research and of course I’m not a doctor etc etc but it’s worked for me. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01NCV5KW8/ by jeelio (Sat 6th Nov 2021 2:34am)

  • If you’re honest with yourself you probably follow it, and her, pretty intensely. I mean I bet you could ask 100 US politicians to name some British MPs and they’d have trouble naming almost anyone. For you to think that a random Scottish punter like me, not even a politician, should be embarrassed and considered ignorant to know nothing about one of theirs says a lot more about you and the little world within which you live. I’ve read all of your replies and you don’t seem to be getting it at all so imagine this basic scenario: You’re at work minding your own business and some random guy comes in holding a gun and asks you if you’ve ever been shot. • It’s called a relay attack. You know cars that have keyless entry? Basically if you’re very close to the car then you can unlock the doors and start the car without getting the key fob out of your pocket/bag. You just press a button on the door handle and start to ignition with a button. The relay attack amplifies the distance you can do this from. Putting your keys inside a faraday cage wallet (or even wrapped in tin foil or placed inside your microwave etc) prevents this attack. by jeelio (Tue 16th Nov 2021 11:05pm)

I’ve watched a lot of these cop shows like “The Interceptors” where they chase a guy the wrong way up the motorway, wrecking loads of vehicles and potentially killing folk, along with an expensive helicopter tracking them. Then at the end of the show they say the guy got a £20 fine and a suspended sentence for 6 months and I’m like WTF? Where’s the deterrent for them? by jeelio (Thu 18th Nov 2021 10:37pm)

  • Unbelievable. Perhaps the most incredibly incompetent person in the country! Wonder if they paid for the “award”? by jeelio (Wed 24th Nov 2021 9:56pm)
  • Yeah that’s true. The whole system is annoying. Actually had a telephone appointment with my GP this afternoon and she was telling me about the referral process. Said they can either do a routine or an urgent referral. The routine one takes forever - up to a year, basically added to the bottom of the list - and the urgent one that I think takes a couple of weeks. She said there really needs to be another option in the middle as issues - like the one I was complaining about - aren’t an urgent emergency but also aren’t just randomly routine like something completely non serious. She said if she marked mine as urgent she’d just get a standard response back saying it’s not actually urgent, or words to that effect. Anyway glad you got seen to eventually. Wish I still had private healthcare! At least the NHS is free, though. I’d hate to be poor in the US by jeelio (Wed 24th Nov 2021 10:14pm)

  • There was somebody here last month referring to Christmas as “the holiday season” 🤦‍♂️ by jeelio (Sun 23rd Jan 2022 11:47pm)
  • In Europe we go on holiday in the summer generally. June, July and August would be the holiday season, if any. In America, their word for a holiday is a vacation. They go on vacation, we go on holiday. That’s the distinction. 2 words with different meanings. Calling it the festive season is perfectly fine as that is a valid description of the season. It’s certainly not super common here to say that. I’m middle aged and that was the first time I’ve ever heard it said in Britain. Perhaps it is amongst kids that have grown up here with American media though. by jeelio (Mon 24th Jan 2022 12:23am)

In terms of maths, I’ve never needed or used it whatsoever other than arithmetic which is used constantly. If maths is the stumbling block I’d go for the degree without it but if you feel you’re lacking their then it’s definitely worth doing. Numbers were always kinda easy for me. • Hey man just a word of advice seeing as you said you want to get huge. At the age of 16 your body is making loads of testosterone. It’ll peak in a few years but it’ll still be really high for the next 10/15 years so this is the best time to be getting big. It’s also the worst time to take gear. I’m just trying to warn you off the gear because if you take it when you’re young then you might end up needing to take testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for the rest of your life which won’t be fun by jeelio (Sun 20th Feb 2022 6:57pm)

  • Sure but headline breaking news stuff is a tiny part of their paper. The things I see on Facebook from them with loads of engagement is the crappy “10 things you didn’t know…” type articles or similar. Maybe the issue is that we view them, or they masquerade as, a newspaper when really it’s a half arsed gossipy rag effort. They actually do really well there with Facebook maws - wouldn’t be supposed if that’s a big source of their income by jeelio (Mon 28th Feb 2022 8:59pm)
  • Grew up in North Glasgow myself and heard about him around the late 80s. I think from possil, ruchill, springburn or similar. Story was he took a whole sheet of acid and ended up in a permo (permanent LSD trip). “Billy Backwards” was his name but I’ve heard others call him something else. Probably a myth tbh. Seems like everyone knew someone that knew him but nobody actually knew him personally if you know what I mean… Great story though by jeelio (Tue 1st Mar 2022 7:27pm)

  • The home report value is very important though. It’s what the banks use as the properties value. That’s why it has to be done be an accredited surveyor. What the property is advertised for, or what the purchaser actually ends up paying, is irrelevant to the lender. They just need to know what the liability is. It’s also a good benchmark for the purchaser as each area and type of property will have a typical overs offer percentage. It’s a nightmare for people buying nowadays though . In my day you could get 150% mortgages and use the extra 50% to pay for the offers over, the legal fees, stamp duty and your furnishing and decorating by jeelio (Fri 11th Mar 2022 8:59pm)
  • Yeah totally agree. It seems so incredibly random and arbitrary. When I changed lender last year the mortgage company sent round a surveyor to check the property value. He basically told me the current value of my house within a minute of meeting him, and without him going beyond ringing my doorbell and despite the fact that I’d spent nearly 10 years renovating the house since I bought it and had spent a fortune on it. He was only interested in the standard inflation figure he’d previously looked up. Don’t really blame him though, I think location and square footage is what they base things off of, regardless of what you’ve done by jeelio (Fri 11th Mar 2022 10:09pm)

My mum used to say that you never know if you’ll have to live/work in a foreign country and that’s exactly what I did for a while and everyone could understand me. When you’re used to doing both it’s very easy to adapt by jeelio (Wed 27th Apr 2022 2:27pm)
  • I would move out and hand back the key but make a copy of them first. Then sneak back in the following night before new tenants arrive but after inspection, with a large tin of bitumen paint and make splatters of the paint all over every surface of the property. The floors, carpeting, walls, ceilings, windows, kitchen & bathroom units, radiators… everything. Everything will be completely fucked and need replaced and be extremely costly. Could easily cause 30 grand of damage in a matter of minutes and in complete silence and in darkness. No worries about DNA as you’ve obviously already lived there. Was stoned once with some mates when I used to be a landlord and this was the worst thing we figured a tenant could do that either insurance wouldn’t cover or would cause a huge amount of time and hassle by jeelio (Wed 27th Apr 2022 10:20pm)

  • Id agree with you more or less but unfortunately the way things are with no barrier between you and a car means you’re likely to eventually get splatted. Millions of cars crash in to each other every day and they’re hard to miss. Bikes are easy to miss and a lot of drivers are fannying about on their phones nowadays. Would be great if this wasn’t the case but it is. Even bicycle only lanes aren’t respected by cars by jeelio (Sat 30th Apr 2022 3:36pm)
  • Definitely. So many people base their vote on likability rather than what their manifesto points are. I’m sure this is why so many people just hate the SNP due to Sturgeon, and previously Salmond, being two of the ugliest people alive. And ask English people why they vote conservative; it’s usually because they think the alternative - Corbyn or Keir Starmer - are twats. Should be a minimum IQ & EQ to be allowed to vote. Brexit is a perfect example. Most people had no idea what the EU entails, they were just racist and wanted less immigrants. Anyway that’s my rant for today lol by jeelio (Fri 6th May 2022 8:04pm)

It’s so pathetic when they think their job is a battle of wits, trying to “win” an argument with fast questioning. It’s got nothing to do with that. It’s about the law and the law only. To keep it open another 5 hours means spending a lot of money for staff, security, utility bills etc. during a time that nobody is going shopping. So they would make a big loss. Every other week you hear the losers slagging off the Glasgow uni accent for example. I’ve always aspired to be successful and for my kids to be successful but I hate the whole you’re not cool unless you came from a shithole and that you’re very poor. Why are people proud that their parents are fucking losers? Break the cycle ffs. Be a success yourself! Learn to speak properly and educate yourself. It’s not difficult. Don’t be a fucken ned that’s proud that you have a shit job and talk with a neddy accent. You might want to travel outside of your scheme one day and you’ll want to be understood. • Everyone telling you this is normal, now it very well may well be for your street, but there’s no harm calling the police if you feel it necessary or you’re unsure. They’ll be in a better situation to evaluate whether it’s something they need to do something about or ignore. You can do this anonymously on the non emergency number 101. Also if they get a bunch of calls about the same incident then they’ll take it more seriously, so basically if you’re the only neighbour to call then your other neighbours clearly aren’t fussed by it and then it’s probably normal by jeelio (Sat 25th Jun 2022 1:42pm)
  • Nah you’ll be fine. I’ve put maybe ten offers in on the same property over a span of a about 3 days before by jeelio (Sat 25th Jun 2022 2:01pm)
  • This is absolutely fine. For the last 20 or so years every gas stove has to have a thermocoupler that senses when there is heat. If there isn’t any heat then the gas gets turned off automatically. That’s why all gas stoves need electricity nowadays. You’ll notice each gas ring has 2 wee cylinders beside it. One is the spark plug that lights it and the other is the thermocoupler that registers whether its lit or not. It’s also the reason why when you ignite it you need to wait about five seconds for it stay alit, otherwise the thermocoupler isn’t sufficiently hot for it to register that a valid flame is in place. As for ventilation, an internal extractor is valid by jeelio (Sun 26th Jun 2022 11:55pm)

The police force is certainly rotten to the core. Anecdotal, but I know a girl that was in it for a few years and recently quit. She said they were such a dysfunctional bunch of cunts. Everyone cheating on their partners, loads of domestic violence, bullying, racism, homophobia, nearly everyone an alcoholic etc. Lawyers aren’t much better though lol. You can get it free online with folk like auto trader or confused.com That’ll tell you the real market rate for your car and mileage. • That’s not an English thing, nor is it a lead thing. Traditionally, in Britain, the kitchen tap would be fed from the rising mains (the incoming fresh water straight aff the street), and the the rest of the house - both hot and cold taps - would be fed from a water storage tank in the loft via gravity. The hot tap would go via a water heater or boiler etc. So if you wanted to drink tap water then you would only drink it from the kitchen tap. The loft storage tank would be subject to contamination (rats and birds drowning in the tank etc) as well as being stagnant so only used for bathrooms (toilets and showers). Newer houses will typically have all cold taps in the house fed from the rising mains. If it’s a big new build (like 4 en-suites) then the developers may be forced by the water company to have a storage tank by jeelio (Wed 13th Jul 2022 2:14am)

Used to be a guy in Dunbar that does hire and coaching at Pease bay. Not sure if he’s still doing it. There’s lots of spots across the country but for most you’d need to go for a weekend really like the western isles. Thurso on the north coast for example has a reef that produces the best wave in Europe but it’s like a 6 hour drive. Jamie from Clan is a real legend though and a top bloke. • I did this once, home alone, about 15 years ago. I was so stoned (on a hash yoghurt) that I couldn’t be sure where the toilet was and was really paranoid that someone would see me through the windows and think I was an idiot for not knowing the layout to my own flat. So I did it slowly and quietly in to a pint glass, one drop at a time, in case the neighbours heard me and wondered why I was pissing in to a glass. And that’s the story of when I stopped doing hash by jeelio (Mon 31st Oct 2022 10:30pm)
  • DELETED Please don’t buy a dehumidifier. The black mould is, sadly, entirely your fault. An adult puts out 1.5 litres of moisture per day (mainly from breathing but also sweat, cooking, showering and cooking). This moisture will condense on the coldest parts of your house. This is typically windows and then the lower parts of your internal parts of external walls. You need to ventilate your place 24hrs a day, even in winter. This water has to escape or it will form as mould and make you ill. Ideally you’ll need trickle vents on every single window. You’ll also need to open opposing windows (at opposite sides of your property) at least once a day for 5-10 minutes to let the air run through. If you ever see condensation on your windows, even in the morning, then that’s a major sign that you’re not ventilating properly. I know it seems strange to open windows when it’s cold but it’s what you have to do. You absolutely should never get mould, condensation or need a dehumidifier by jeelio (Wed 2nd Nov 2022 1:53am)

  • I believe they sell courses teaching the very basics of buying lots of property. Basically buy a cheap buy to let on interest only, do it up, get it revalued and remortgage. Take the money out and use as a deposit on another flat. Rinse and repeat. The fact people need to go on a course to learn this is quite embarrassing. Then theres the renting of expensive cars for a day and making loads of videos wearing multiple changes of clothes to then drip feed out over the next 6 months on social media to give the illusion of vast wealth. by jeelio (Tue 15th Nov 2022 7:43pm)

  • A lot of silly and completely wrong answers here. I can’t be arsed explaining rising mains, direct or indirect plumbing systems and storage tanks but to summarise - your kitchen cold tap is guaranteed to be drinkable. All other taps (including bathroom cold) are not. There are ways you can tell if your system is direct or indirect. Let me know if you want more info but as I say, to be safe, just drink from the kitchen sink cold tap and you’ll be fine. Never drink from the hot tap by jeelio (Sat 19th Nov 2022 11:36pm)
  • I meant it’s a no in terms of being a guaranteed answer. There’s a very good chance it’s fine though. Traditionally British houses are fed through the rising mains which is the high pressure clean water coming from the street. It would feed the kitchen cold tap and also a tank in the loft. The loft tank would then feed all the other cold taps and also the boiler or storage heater which would then feed the hot taps, radiators and showers. Many newer houses will have the rising mains feeding all the cold taps in the house so in that case you’d be fine. Without knowing much about your house layout, the simple test is to hold your thumb over the tap. If you can stop the water flow then it’s gravity fed from your loft. Otherwise it’s high pressure from the street. The reason people say to not drink gravity fed water from the loft is because it’s potentially open to contamination. It’s not uncommon to find dead birds/bats/mice/squirrels in the loft water tank. It’s potentially a kind of stagnant source of water. by jeelio (Sun 20th Nov 2022 12:06am)
  • I used to live in a conversion in Pollokshields and everything was fed from the mains. It’s hard to imagine how it could be anything other than this as the top floor flats tend to have access to the loft which doesn’t make sense if it contains stuff that is servicing other flats. Also, most conversions have been done in the last 40 or so years when storage tanks are much less common, so based on those 2 points I’d say there’s an almost 100% chance yours will be fine. Either way I wouldn’t worry much. I grew up in an old house in the 80s with a storage tank and drank from the toilet tap every day and I’m still here lol. The real main worry is if you have lead pipes but that’s very very unlikely these days by jeelio (Sun 20th Nov 2022 12:37am)

  • We went the first year and it was unbelievably shite, so much so that I rang them up the next day to ask for a refund. We got inside the art gallery and it was like a long queue slowly walking through various rooms. This took ages and we eventually asked one of the attendants how long this queue was going to be as the kids were completely bored and ready to fall asleep. The guy replied with “what queue?”. There was no queue, we were actually in what we’d paid for. This was it! You were to walk through the dimly lit rooms with random things hanging from the ceiling with string like an elf toy and some coloured lights. I think they’d put some fake snow on top of some of the art displays and a fake Santa beard on a statue. You could literally of set this up and paid for all the materials for about 50 quid. Absolute joke. Whoever came up with it was either a massive scam artist or criminally insane. At least there was a wee ice rink outside and you could buy some candy floss so the kids got something out of it at least. by jeelio (Fri 25th Nov 2022 8:34pm)

Means you probably won’t have to wait in for no shows. Ignore them if they contact you at a different time. Also, I think it’s worth giving your items a nominal value, even if it’s just £5. You somehow get a different attitude versus those people looking for free stuff. When they arrive you can always just give it away for free anyway. I think, mentally, people naturally put more value on items that have a perceived cost and will treat the arrangement differently as to when it’s free. My temperature was so high that I was hallucinating - seeing actual monkeys walking around my flat - and I was having entire conversations with people that weren’t there. There’s a joke that if you saw a 50 pound note on the floor whilst having the flu that you couldn’t pick it up. That’s completely true. • Ideally a painter will unscrew your sockets when they’re painting so that not an issue as they’re a standard size. You can ask them to do the same with the ceiling light fitting. If there’s currently no electrics where you’re wanting the sconce lights then that’s an issue. If it’s a tenement flat they’ll need to cut a channel in the plaster (called a raggle or a wall chase) which will then need plastered over and then you’ll need to wait for the plaster to dry before painting. If it’s a modern flat with plasterboard walls then they can hopefully fish the cables behind it so that’s less destructive. Anyway, I’d do electrics first as that’s potentially destructive work and then decorating or flooring, it doesn’t really matter especially if you’re not removing skirting boards. And yes you can buy all the fittings, paint and flooring yourself. Some painters have their preferred brands though and you won’t know what primers they need. Bear in mind that the tradesman will want to make a particular amount of money for the job so whether you buy stuff or they do, it won’t really matter to the final price as they’ll add on labour to counter act that anyway by jeelio (Fri 18th Aug 2023 8:33pm)

People are entitled wanks by nature - that why I moved out to the country with zero neighbours. by jeelio (Sat 19th Aug 2023 3:53am)
  • The classic for the slightly older ones is Facebook’s “poke” function. It’s been removed now but was a thing for the first ten or so years by jeelio (Tue 22nd Aug 2023 1:16am)
  • They’ll get through any lock given enough time. I’d recommend hiding 2 AirTags in the bike with the loud speakers removed so they can’t make them beep and find them. by jeelio (Tue 22nd Aug 2023 6:24pm)
  • Seems like bad design. The handle should be taped over or whatever then or I’m using the handle by jeelio (Mon 28th Aug 2023 4:53pm)
  • Be aware, if this is your first time dealing with door and double glazing salesmen - they will call you every day for the next week dropping a £100 or so off each time. They’re all chancers and get commission based on how much extra they can charge you over their actual price which you’ll get in about a weeks time if you hold firm. Thing is by then the trust is gone and you’re ready to tell them to GTF by jeelio (Mon 28th Aug 2023 10:27pm)
  • Halfords staff are still under pressure to exaggerate problems. I got new tyres from the Paisley one recently and they offered a free health check. It came back with 4 grand worth of repairs, most of which I’d fail my MOT on. I took it to my usual place for the MOT and it passed. All the things Halfords mentioned weren’t even advisories. You’re better using a recommended independent garage and building a relationship with them by jeelio (Thu 31st Aug 2023 3:53pm)
  • Hold on a minute Doc. Are you telling me you built a Time Machine out of a Volkswagen? by jeelio (Sat 9th Sep 2023 11:52pm)
  • Used to love diving as a kid. Kirkintilloch pool (Kirky baths) had a 3m and 5m dale. Sadly it was knocked down in the 90s and a crappy place without dales built in its footprint. Same with the Stevenson building (the uni pool) - I think the pool is still there but they removed the spring board and dales. Suppose it’s a health and safety thing. Gourock outdoor pool is alright and has a single dale. by jeelio (Mon 11th Sep 2023 8:33am)
  • As mentioned, it’s a Scottish name for a diving platform (without a springboard). First thing you’d ask at reception was if the dales were open today. I remember ally mccoist saying it once on question of sport and they had no idea what he was talking about by jeelio (Mon 11th Sep 2023 10:29am)
  • Oh aye that reminds me of the magnum centre I think. They had a really deep pool under that flume that ended in a doughnut thing that you then dropped out the middle from about 10ft high. Folk used to scuba dive in there by jeelio (Mon 11th Sep 2023 8:41pm)
  • It says she was late “couple times” and, as someone else commented, they could have just paid her immediately for what she was due and then haggled over the contentious extra thousands. Doesn’t seem fair to withhold pay for the hours she actually did work. by jeelio (Tue 12th Sep 2023 1:37pm)

  • I was coming out of Republic Bierr Halle on Gordon Street in the early 2000s. If you know the pub there’s a steep staircase from street level down to the actual entrance. After we were done when I opened the door from the pub to leave there was water cascading down the stairs. Assumed someone had spilt their drink or something and did a side step. As I got up the stairs there was a guy lying flat on the second top step with the bouncer leaning over him trying to talk to him. The guy had been stabbed. It wasn’t water running down the stairs, it was his blood. I helped call an ambulance and speak to the police etc but one thing that got me was that it never made the news at all. Presumably it was a junkie and apparently their lives are not worth reporting. Often think about that poor guy. Very sad. Very tragic. by jeelio (Tue 19th Sep 2023 12:09am)

  • I do like the venue but it’s owned by DF concerts who are now owned by the almighty cunts TicketMaster (Live Nation) so I refuse to go there anymore. I’d encourage anyone not to give TicketMaster any money. They are an absolute cancer to the music industry by jeelio (Sat 23rd Sep 2023 12:54am)
  • I’m being a bit overly melodramatic lol. I probably would still go there tbh, I just hate ticket master by jeelio (Sat 23rd Sep 2023 1:06am)
  • The difference is it’s illegal to not allow a guide dog anywhere that its’ owner can go. Some people just don’t like dogs but perhaps the waiter explained the law and they felt guilty for discriminating by jeelio (Sat 23rd Sep 2023 11:06pm)
  • Just guessing but maybe there’d been reports there of lock-ins? I’ve been at a few lock-ins in the Highlands and Islands but never in the city tbh so maybe I’m talking shite by jeelio (Sun 24th Sep 2023 2:03am)
  • When a pub locks its doors to the public at the end of the night so nobody new can come in. It essentially becomes a private event and the usual licensing laws don’t necessarily apply. I think the law is a bit of a grey area but basically they wouldn’t necessarily have to abide by the usual laws a pub would have so anything goes by jeelio (Sun 24th Sep 2023 11:51pm)
  • Every country has junkies around the highest foot traffic areas where they can make the most money begging. It’s almost always a cities central station, just like ours is. Most travellers are aware of that. Would you judge Rome by their central station? Where people live in tents all around it? No because we’re aware it’s a high foot traffic area by jeelio (Tue 26th Sep 2023 1:01am)
  • Pretty poor not knowing the difference between the Romani people and the Romanians. The people you’re talking about are Romani - they’re an ethnic group completely unrelated to the country of Romania by jeelio (Wed 27th Sep 2023 9:45pm)
  • But isn’t that because a lot of people - like yourself - think Romani gypsy means Romanian gypsy so Romanians are accidentally getting a bad rep? by jeelio (Wed 27th Sep 2023 10:33pm)

  • Can’t tell if you’re joking or not. This has certainly been the wettest summer in my living memory, especially during the school holidays. Rained nearly everyday. Was not bad in June but otherwise a complete washout. by jeelio (Wed 4th Oct 2023 10:23pm)
  • This happens every season, kids were doing it in my day in the 80s. Now that I’m a grumpy old fart I really don’t think fireworks should be sold without you having a licence. But I suppose most people are sensible with them so it’s not a clear cut debate by jeelio (Sun 8th Oct 2023 11:13pm)
  • Yeah that sounds sensible. At the very minimum making it for an organised display as you suggest. At the end of the day it’s gun powder after all and for a country with such strict gun laws and where you’re not even allowed pepper spray it’s a bit odd that it’s legal by jeelio (Sun 8th Oct 2023 11:42pm)
